MT-82 TRANSMISSION HAS A CONSTANT WHINE SOUND THROUGH 2,3,4 GEAR AND WON'T ENGAGE IN 3RD AFTER 5K RPMS. 5TH GEAR CONSTANTLY GRINDS. CURRENTLY IN REPAIR. *TR
VEHICLE'S TRANSMISSION BECOMES UNABLE TO UPSHIFT OR DOWNSHIFT WHEN NEEDED. DIFFICULT SHIFTING DURING CRITICAL PERIODS DECELERATING TO A STOP & ACCELERATING AFTER COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP. BECOMES A HAZARD ON PUBLIC ROADS BY NOT BEING ABLE TO KEEP UP WITH PACE OF TRAFFIC. SHIFTER MAY POP OUT OF GEAR OR GET STUCK INTO A GEAR. FREQUENTLY NEEDS TO BE FORCED INTO GEAR.. 1ST & REVERSE WITH EXCESSIVE FORCE (2 HANDS). PROBLEM IS WITH THE 2011+ FORD MUSTANG'S WITH GETRAG MT82 6-SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION. SHIFTING INTO & OUT OF REVERSE IS ALSO AN ISSUE WHICH CAN INCREASE THE AMOUNT OF TIME THE VEHICLE CONTINUES TO ROLL BACK UNCONTROLLABLY IN PARKING LOTS WITH CHILDREN. BIGGEST ISSUE IS 1ST GEAR, REVERSE, AND INOPERABLE 5TH GEAR SYNCHRONIZERS & MECHANICALLY UNSOUND INPUT SHAFT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD MUSTANG. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING IN A LOW GEAR, A TICKING SOUND COULD BE HEARD COMING FROM THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHO STATED THAT THE SOUND WAS NORMAL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND FILED A REPORT, BUT OFFERED NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 1,800.
ROUGH, IRREGULAR SHIFTING, MOST NOTICEABLE SHIFTING FROM 1ST GEAR ON THIS MANUAL TRANSMISSION. SEEMS TO LOCK YOU OUT OF GEARS AT ANY GIVEN TIME. ALSO WHILE DOWN SHIFTING, I.E. EXITING OFF THE HIGHWAY ONTO AN EXIT RAMP, HAVE EXPERIENCED A SIMILAR PROBLEM. FROM 6TH GEAR, THE TRANSMISSION LOCKED ME OUT OF 4TH GEAR AND FORCED ME INTO 2ND GEAR. THIS CAUSED A MASSIVE AND SUDDEN DECREASE IN SPEED CAUSING THE VEHICLE BEHIND ME TO SLAM ON THEIR BRAKES IN ORDER TO AVOID REAR-ENDING ME. PERSISTENT GRINDING NOISE AND FEEL WHILE THE CAR IS BEING SHIFTED, AS IF THE GEARS ARE NOT MESHING WHEN SHIFTED. NOTICEABLE IN THE FEEL OF THE STICK AND AUDIBLE AT TIMES AS WELL. THIS IS NOTICEABLE IN MOST GEARS IN PARTICULAR 2ND THRU 5TH. THE TRANSMISSION CONSTANTLY MAKES A HARD CLUNKING NOISE WHEN IT IS PUT INTO FIRST GEAR FROM NEUTRAL. THIS CLUNK CAN BE HEARD AND FELT IN THE CAR CLEARLY. I'VE HAD THIS VEHICLE TO THE DEALER SEVERAL TIMES, KEEP GETTING THE RUN-AROUND, I.E., "THAT IS NORMAL", "OUR TECH'S COULDN'T REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM" ETC...STANDARD DEALER DEFLECTION. *TR
JUST A FEW OF THE ISSUES I HAD WHILE MY CAR . I WAS TOLD THERE WAS NO PROBLEM WITH MY CAR AFTER I ALMOST GOT KILLED TWICE BECAUSE IT WOULD NOT DOWN SHIFT INTO LOWER GEARS AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. TRANS WILL LOOK UP ONCE SHIFTER IS IN BETWEEN GEARS AND WILL NOT GO INTO GEARS STILL SPEED AND RPM SLOW DOWN. MOST EVIDENT WHEN TRYING TO GO FROM 6TH TO 4TH. I WAS ALMOST IN AN ACCIDENT TWICE BECAUSE I WAS NOT ABLE TO DOWN SHIFT TO GET OUT OF THE WAY OF A ONCOMING TRAFFIC. HAD A CRACKED RIM THAT WAS OBVIOUSLY A CASTING DEFECT. HAD A TICKING IN THE ENGINE AFTER LONG TRIPS. . 5.0 SOUNDED LIKE A DIESEL. *TR
THE CAR BEGAN TO HAVE INTERMITTENT SHIFTING PROBLEMS ABOUT 3-4 MONTHS AFTER I BOUGHT THE CAR. WHEN SLOWING DOWN AND THEN ACCELERATING, THE CAR WOULD NOT SHIFT INTO GEAR AND THEN LURCH AND MAKE A POPPING NOISE (FIRST TIME IT DID THIS, I THOUGHT SOMEONE HAD BUMPED MY CAR IN TRAFFIC). I DISMISSED IT THE FIRST FEW TIMES IT HAPPENED. THEN IT BEGAN TO HAPPEN ON A MORE FREQUENT BASIS, NOT AS BAD AS THE FEW PRIOR TIMES BUT MORE FREQUENTLY. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP BACK IN JULY OR AUGUST 2011 AND WAS TOLD THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. AFTER THAT I TOOK THE CAR IN 3 MORE TIMES AND WAS TOLD THE SAME THING. FINALLY THIS WEEK, I CALLED FORD MOTOR COMPANY AND NOW THEIR CUSTOMER RELATIONS DEPARTMENT IS HANDLING MY CASE. THE CAR HAS BEEN AT THE DEALERSHIP SINCE TUESDAY AND I WAS TOLD YESTERDAY THEY THINK IT IS A BAD SHIFTING SOLENOID AND HAVE ORDERED THE PART. I'M NOT EVEN CONFIDENT AS THIS POINT, IF REPLACING THE SOLENOID IS GOING TO FIX THE PROBLEMS. I WANTED TO MAKE A COMPLAINT AS I KNOW YOU ARE INVESTIGATING FORD MUSTANGS FOR THE SHIFTING ISSUES. I AM CONCERNED AS THERE HAVE BEEN SEVERAL TIMES I THOUGHT I WAS GOING TO HAVE AN ACCIDENT BECAUSE THE CAR WOULD NOT SHIFT PROPERLY AND ACCELERATE. I BELIEVE THAT THE ONLY REASON THE ISSUES ON MY CAR HAVE FINALLY BEEN ADDRESSED IS BECAUSE I CALLED FORD DIRECTLY. I HAD AN ISSUE TODAY THAT WAS DANGEROUS AND HAD POTENTIAL TO CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. MY CAR'S SHIFT LEVER BECAME STUCK AND WOULDN'T GO INTO GEAR AND I HAD TO FORCE IT BACK TO THE NEUTRAL POSITION WHILE COMING TO A STOP LIGHT.. THE MANUAL TRANSMISSION IN MY 2011 FORD MUSTANG GT HAS BEEN WHINING AND GRINDING GEARS SINCE THE CLUTCH WAS REPLACED DUE TO A DESIGN FLAW (ONLY TO GET THE EXACT SAME CLUTCH ASSEMBLY), AND WILL BE GOING BACK TO THE DEALER MARCH 29TH TO HOPEFULLY GET THE TRANS REPLACED (W/ THE EXACT SAME TRANS THAT HAS ALL THESE KNOWN ISSUES). I IMAGINE THIS WOULD HAPPEN AGAIN BETWEEN NOW AND WHEN THE CAR IS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, THIS IS MY ONLY AND FIRST BRAND NEW CAR, I SHOULDN'T BE HAVING THESE DANGEROUS PROBLEMS, LET ALONG TAKING MY BRAND NEW CAR TO A DEALERSHIP TO KEEP GETTING REPAIRED OVER AND OVER AGAIN BECAUSE THE FAILING PARTS ARE JUST BEING REPLACED W/ THE SAME PARTS ONLY TO FAIL OVER AND OVER AGAIN. FORD NEEDS TO STEP UP AND REPLACE THIS TRANS W/ AN ENTIRELY DIFFERENT/DEPENDABLE MANUAL TRANSMISSION. I HAVE OWNED 7 MUSTANGS, AND THIS BRAND NEW ONE HAS HAD MORE TRANSMISSION/CLUTCH PROBLEMS THEN ANY CAR I HAVE EVER HAD.. WORSE OFF ITS THE MOST $$ I HAVE EVER SPENT ON A CAR AS WELL.. $30K. 2011 MUSTANG GT MANUAL TRANSMISSION.....VEHICLE SHIFTS VERY ROUGH AND FROM TIME TO TIME LOCKS 2ND AND 3RD GEAR OUT CREATING A SAFETY HAZARD AT INTERSECTIONS WHEN REQUIRED TO STOP. THIS LEADS TO GETTING INTO THE MIDDLE OF THE INTERSECTION AND HAVE TO TRY TO JAM THE CAR INTO OR SKIP THAT GEAR ENTIRELY TO GET OUT OF THE INTERSECTION. *TR
2011 MUSTANG GT, MANUAL TRANSMISSION GRINDS SHIFTING INTO SECOND GEAR. IT IS REAL BAD WHEN COLD AND GETS BETTER AS IT WARMS UP. *TR
HEADING UP A HILL AND HEARD A LOUD GRINDING SOUND. CAR STOPPED IN PLACE AND WOULD NOT GO ANYWHERE WHEN PRESSING ON THE GAS. TRIED PUTTING THE CAR IN REVERSE AND WOULD NOT MOVE AT ALL. ALSO TRIED PUTTING IN NEUTRAL AND IT STILL WOULD NOT MOVE. HAD CAR TOWED TO FORD DEALERSHIP AND THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT CHECKED THE CAR OUT AND STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION "GRENADED" AS IT STATED ON THE WORK ORDER. I GOT TO SEE WHAT THE TRANSMISSION LOOKED LIKE. IT HAD PIECES OF METAL EVERYWHERE AND THE LONG BEARINGS WERE ALL SHATTERED INTO PIECES. A NEW TRANSMISSION WAS ORDERED AND PLACED IN THE CAR. *TR
I WAS UNABLE TO ENGAGE 2ND OR 3RD GEAR WHILE IN HEAVY TRAFFIC AND THE SHIFTER GRINDED WHILE GOING INTO 4TH GEAR. THE LEVER WAS ABLE TO BE MOVED BACK INTO 2ND AND 3RD AFTER BUT WOULD OCCASIONALLY GRIND JUST AS IT DID FOR 4TH GEAR. THIS HAS HAPPENED ON MORE THAN A FEW OCCASIONS AND FORD HAS AS OF YET BEEN UNWILLING TO PROPERLY ADDRESS THE ISSUE. THIS FEELS LIKE A SAFETY RISK FOR THE SIMPLE FACT THAT THE CAR HAS ISSUES DOING WHAT YOU TELL IT TO DO. IF I CAN'T SHIFT INTO A GEAR IN AN EMERGENCY MANEUVER I MAY BE UNABLE TO PREVENT AN ACCIDENT OR WORSE BECAUSE I'M UNABLE TO MOVE MY CAR I WILL CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. SOMETHING MUST BE DONE ABOUT THIS VERY DANGEROUS BEHAVIOR THAT I AND MANY OTHERS ARE EXPERIENCING. THE DEALER HAS TRIED TO HELP ME BUT AS THEY PUT IT FORD HAS TIED THEIR HANDS. THEY HAVE CHANGED MY TRANSMISSION OIL TO A LIGHTER WEIGHT TO NO EFFECT. THE CAR HAS BEEN TO THE DEALER 4 TIMES FOR THIS ISSUE WITH NO RESOLUTION. THE SERVICE MANAGER HAS TOLD ME THAT AS MY CAR STANDS NOW, THERE IS LITTLE HE CAN DO UNTIL FORD SAYS OTHERWISE. THESE ISSUES PERSIST HOT OR COLD BUT ARE VERY NOTICEABLE IN COLDER WEATHER. DAY 1 (3/7/11) COMPLAINED TO SELLING DEALERSHIP ABOUT STIFFNESS / RELUCTANCE OF VEHICLE TO SHIFT INTO 1ST AND 2ND GEAR. SELLING DEALER ) ADVISED THAT THE SHIFTER WILL LOOSEN UP WITH SOME USE. APRIL / MAY / JUNE AND JULY PASS WITH NO REAL LOOSENING AND STILL THE OCCASIONAL REFUSAL TO GO INTO GEAR. DURING JUNE 2011 I START NOTICING A VIBRATION EMINATING FROM THE SHIFTER AT AROUND 2500 RPM'S ON DECELERATION. I MONITOR THIS ISSUE AS THE VIBRATION IS HARD TO REPLICATE CONSTANTLY. BY AUGUST 2011 THE TRANSMISSION IS VIBRATING EXCESSIVLEY IN 2ND,3RD AND 4TH GEARS AT 2500 RPMS. SERVICE APPOINTMENT IS SCHEDULED WITH LOCAL DEALER ( MARYLAND) FOR 15 AUG 11. VEHICLE IS SERVICED AND TO ADDRESS CONTINUED SHIFTING ISSUES THEY COMPLETE TSB BY REPLACING FLUID. TO ADDRESS THE EXCESSIVE VIBRATION THEY HAND ME A SHEET CALLED OASIS SPECIAL SERVICE MESSAGE THAT STATES"SOME 2011 MUSTANGS EQUIPPED WITH 3.7L V-6 ENGINE AND MT82 MANUAL TRANSMISSION MAY EXHIBIT A VIBRATION IN THE SHIFTER....BETWEEN 3500 AND 2000 RPM. THIS IS NORMAL OPERATIONAL CHARACTERISTICS AND NO REPIARS ARE REQUIRED OR RECOMMENDED." I PICK UP MY VEHICLE AND NOT A BLOCK AWAY THE VIBRATION IS STILL THERE AND THE RESISTANCE TO SHIFT INTO 1ST AND 2ND GEAR IS STILL THERE. AS I HAVE READ UP ON THE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS REGARDING BOTH OF THESE ISSUES THERE WAS NO REASON TO RETURN IT TO THE SERVICING DEALER UNTIL FORD ADMITS AN ISSUE AND ALLOWS A REPAIR. YOUR ASSISTANCE AS A GOVERNMENT OVERSIGHT IS REQUESTED. MILEAGE ON SERVICE DATE WAS 3,925. CURRENT MILEAGE IS 4,139. UNSUSPECTING SHIFT ISSUE, SOME WHAT DANGEROUS. SHIFTING PROBLEM, ALMOST OVERNIGHT 24 HOUR PERIOD. DOES NOT WANT TO SHIFT, 6 SPEED MANUAL. REPEATED TECHNICAL SERVICE REPORTS FOUND ONLINE, ABOUT FLUID, ABOUT BOLTS LOOSING, SHEERING OF PINS AND SIMILAR ISSUES WITH 6 SPEED TRANS. FORD WON'T DISCUSS FIXING ANYTHING, I AM TOLD THAT "ABUSE" HAS CAUSED THE ISSUES. I AM LOOKING INTO REPAIRS AT PRIVATE SHOP. FORD NEEDS TO STAND BEHIND THERE SHORT COMINGS, AND NOT DUMP IT ON CONSUMERS. *JS
THE 2011 MUSTANG GT HAS SHIFTING ISSUES. IT IS A MANUAL TRANSMISSION. WHEN SHIFTING INTO 2ND AND 3RD GEARS, IT GRINDS WHEN COLD. AFTER IT WARMS UP, THERE ARE DELAYS IN POWER IN 2,3,4 AND 5 GEARS. *TR
6 SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION HARD SHIFTING, ALSO PRONOUNCED VIBRATION ON DECELERATION AT APPROX 2500 RPM - 2200-RPM. DEALER CLAIMS IS NORMAL. *TR
I HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING INTERMITTENT TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS SINCE I BOUGHT MY 2011 MUSTANG V6 EQUIPPED WITH A MT82 MANUAL TRANSMISSION. AT FIRST THE CAR WOULD RESIST SHIFTING INTO 1ST GEAR WHILE FULLY STOPPED, EVEN WITH THE CLUTCH PRESSED TO THE FLOOR. SOON AFTER 2ND GEAR BEGAN RESISTING SHIFTS AND I HAD OCCASIONAL "LOCK-OUTS" WHERE IT WOULD NOT GO INTO 2ND GEAR FREQUENTLY WHILE TURNING LEFT. WHEN THIS HAPPENS I HAD TO UPSHIFT TO 3RD OF IF THERE WAS TRAFFIC IN FRONT I WOULD COAST UNTIL I CAN SAFELY DOWNSHIFT TO 1ST. I HAD THE CAR DIAGNOSED AND SERVICED AT THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY FELT THE PROBLEM WAS CAUSED BY STRETCHED BOLTS IN THE PRESSURE PLATE THAT KEPT THE CLUTCH FROM DISENGAGING. UNFORTUNATELY THIS DIDN'T HELP AND THE SHIFT FEEL CONTINUED TO DEGRADE. TODAY I EXPERIENCED A NEW PROBLEM: I WAS STOPPED AT AN INTERSECTION AND WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN I ATTEMPTED TO SHIFT INTO 1ST BUT THE SHIFTER ONLY MOVED 90% OF THE WAY FORWARD AND DIDN'T ENGAGE ANY GEARS. IT DIDN'T GRIND EVEN WHEN I LET THE CLUTCH OUT IT JUST WAS AS IF THERE WAS NO 1ST GEAR. I ATTEMPTED TO PULL IT BACK INTO NEUTRAL AND IT RESISTED; IT FELT LOCKED IN. EVENTUALLY I PULLED HARD ENOUGH THAT IT CAME BACK TO NEUTRAL BUT THE SAME THING HAPPENED WHEN I TRIED TO SHIFT INTO 1ST AGAIN. IT WOULDN'T FIND THE GEAR AND GOT STUCK. ALL DURING THIS TIME OF ABOUT 30 SECONDS THERE WERE OTHER DRIVERS THAT HAD EXITED THE HIGHWAY AND HAD TO STOP AND GO AROUND ME WHILE I WAS STUCK AT THE INTERSECTION. I COULD HAVE EASILY BEEN REARENDED. I'VE HAD OTHER NEAR MISSES WHEN I'VE PULLED OUT IN FRONT OF TRAFFIC AND BEEN LOCKED OUT OF 2ND GEAR AS WELL. THE OFFICIAL WORD IS THAT FORD IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM BUT THEY DON'T HAVE A FIX YET. I HAD BEEN BIDING MY TIME UNTIL A SOLUTION IS FOUND BUT IT APPEARS THAT THIS MAY RESULT IN AN ACCIDENT IF NOT RESOLVED SOON. *TR
THE HEAD RESTRAINT DESIGN ON THE 2011 FORD MUSTANG IS DEFECTIVE FOR TALLER DRIVERS. I AM 6' 1" BUT MY 5' 8" WIFE ALSO COMPLAINS. EVEN AT ITS TALLEST ADJUSTMENT, I MUST HOLD MY HEAD FORWARD IN AN UNNATURAL AND FATIGUING POSITION. I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE WITH THIS COMPLAINT, AS THE MUSTANG FORUMS ARE FILLED WITH SIMILAR COMPLAINTS FROM OTHER DRIVERS -- MANY OF WHOM REPORT SIMPLY REMOVING THE HEAD RESTRAINT ALTOGETHER. ACCORDING TO THE FORUMS, FORD SAYS TO INCREASE THE ANGLE OF THE SEATBACK, BUT THEN THE STEERING WHEEL IS TOO FAR AWAY -- AND I DO NOT HAVE SHORT ARMS (35" SLEEVE LENGTH). MY CURRENT SOLUTION IS TO RAISE THE HEAD RESTRAINT ABOUT 2" HIGHER THAN THE HIGHEST DETENT PROVIDED BY FORD. EVEN THOUGH THE UNIT IS STILL IN PLACE, AND SEEMS SECURE WHEN I PUSH ON IT, I'M CONCERNED ABOUT HOW IT WILL PERFORM IN A CRASH BECAUSE IT IS NOT LATCHED INTO PLACE AND THERE'S LESS OF THE RODS DOWN IN THE SEATBACK FOR SUPPORT. THE OTHER ALTERNATIVE IS TO REMOVE THE UNIT ALTOGETHER, AS SOME OTHER MUSTANG OWNERS HAVE REPORTED DOING. FORD'S DESIGN FORCES TALLER DRIVERS INTO ONE OF THREE UNSAFE MODES: 1. DRIVE THE CAR WITH ONES HEAD TILTED FORWARD IN A POSITION THAT IS BOTH TIRING AND DISTRACTING. 2. REMOVE THE HEAD RESTRAINT ENTIRELY. 3. RAISE THE HEAD RESTRAINT ABOVE THE HIGHEST DETENT LEAVING IT FREE TO MOVE AND ALSO WITH QUESTIONABLE AMOUNT OF ROD IN THE SEATBACK. *TR
OCCASIONAL AND SOMETIMES SEVERE SHUDDER/VIBRATION WHEN DOWNSHIFTING, PARTICULARLY WHEN GOING DOWN HILL, FELT THROUGHOUT THE CAR, SEAT AND SHIFTER. WHEN IT HAPPENS, IT FEELS LIKE THE VIBRATION IS IN THE DRIVETRAIN AREA. SEEMS LIKE IT ALWAYS HAPPENS ABOVE 40MPH. THE SHUDDER/VIBRATION CLOSELY RESEMBLES GOING OVER RUMBLE STRIPS. IT CAN BE UNNERVING AS IT FEELS LIKE SOMETHING IS GOING WRONG WITH THE CAR! I HAVE READ FORUMS AND IT SEEMS LIKE I AM NOT THE ONLY PERSON THAT HAS BEEN EXPERIENCING THIS PROBLEM WITH THE 2011 MUSTANG. THIS PROBLEM CAN BE DISTACTING AS YOU DRIVE AND THE VIBRATION CAN NOT BE GOOD FOR THE DRIVETRAIN. SOME OR ALL OF THESE 2011 MUATANG MANUAL CARS HAVE A PROBLEM AND FORD MUST ADDRESS THIS ISSUE NOW! *TR

THE MULTIPLE FAILURES OCCURRED INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALSO NOTIFIED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 2,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 7,500.
AT 150 MILES ON THE ODOMETER THE TRANSMISSION BEGAN TO GRIND SECOND GEAR WHILE TURNING LEFT. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER, AND THEY CHANGED THE FLUID AS PER T.S.B. THERE WAS ZERO CHANGE. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER, AND THEY SAID IT WAS NORMAL AND WAS A 'BREAK IN' ISSUE. DESPITE DISAGREEING I DROVE IT UNTIL THERE WAS AROUND 10,000 MILES ON IT. AT THIS POINT IT WAS NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO SHIFT INTO SECOND WHEN TURNING LEFT WITHOUT PHYSICALLY FORCING IT TO THE POINT I WAS SKIPPING TO THIRD. ALSO THIRD GEAR HAD DEVELOPED THE SAME ISSUES INTERMITTENTLY. I TOOK IT BACK IN, AND THEY BLED THE CLUTCH. AFTER RECEIVING THE CAR I TOOK IT BACK THE NEXT WEEK, AS OBVIOUSLY IT DID NOT FIX ANYTHING. FORD DECIDED TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION. THE TECHNICIAN REPORTED ALL SYNCROS AND BLOCKING RINGS WERE EXTREMELY WORN AND SECOND AND THIRD GEARS SHOWED SIGNS OF WEAR. HE ALSO REPORTED THE INPUT SHAFT BEARING HAD SHOWED SIGNS THAT IT HAD BEEN VERY HOT. AFTER RECEIVING MY CAR BACK I NOTICED A DIFFERENCE, NOW THE SHIFTER LINKAGE HAD A NOTICEABLE POPPING/BINDING FEELING IN THE LINKAGE WHEN MOVING THE SHIFTER BACK AND FORTH IN THE NUETRAL POSITION. I WAS INFORMED THAT IT WAS ABNORMAL, BUT THAT OTHER CARS ON THE LOT HAD THE SAME ISSUE. WHICH LATER I FOUND OUT TO BE A LIE. AFTER ABOUT 100 MILES IT HAS SHOWN THE SAME EXACT SYMPTOMS AS BEFORE INCLUDING THE NEW LINKAGE ISSUE. I DROVE THE CAR WITH THE TECHNICIAN WITH ME FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME. I WAS ABLE TO DUPLICATE THE ISSUE WHEN TURNING LEFT. THE TECHNICIAN WAS ALSO ABLE TO NOTICE THIS ISSUE WHEN HE WAS DRIVING. EVEN THOUGH IT HAPPENS ONLY WHEN TURNING LEFT AND ONLY WHEN CHANGING TO SECOND GEAR, HE AGAIN LIED TO ME AND TOLD ME THAT IT WAS NORMAL, AND THAT IN ALL CARS YOU HAVE TO WAIT A LITTLE BIT FOR THE SYNCRO'S TO CATCH UP AND IT IS NORMAL TO HAVE TO WAIT A FEW SECONDS WHILE HOLDING IT UP TO THE SYNCROS FOR IT TO SLIDE IN. A FORD SERVICE TICKET HAS BEEN OPENED TO TRACK THE ISSUE AND DEALER REPAIRS MADE. THE DEALERS SERVICE MANAGER HAS DRIVEN THE VEHICLE, WITH ME PRESENT, AND HAS NOTICED THE SAME GRIND AND ROUGH SHIFT PATTERN AS DESCRIBED. WHY WAS THIS ESSENTIAL DATA NOT RECORDED WHEN MANY OTHER TRIVIAL COMPUTATIONS ARE PRESENT? I BELIEVE FORD UNDERSTANDS THE POTENTIAL PROBLEM AND OMITS THE STEERING WHEEL ANGLE BECAUSE OF LIABILITY. THE VEHICLE WAS RENTED FROM HERTZ. THEY FAILED TO ADVISE THE CUSTOMER OF THE SLOW RESPONSE OF ELECTRONIC STEERING. SECOND: PASSENGER SEAT BELT IS POSITIONED HIGH AND THE HEADREST PROTRUDES, MAKING AN OCCUPANT OF AVERAGE SIZE 'SLOUCH' TO AVOID THE UNCOMFORTABLE STRAP. THIS WAS NOT A SATISFACTORY SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM, SO I TOOK THE CAR BACK ON MARCH 24TH, 2011AND REQUESTED THAT THEY CHANGE THE TRANSMISSION FLUID TO MOTORCRAFT FULL SYNTHETIC TRANSMISSION FLUID, JUST TO SEE IF IT HELPED. IT MADE THE PROBLEM LESS PRONOUNCED, BUT DID NOT SOLVE IT. ON APRIL 4TH, 2011 THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THAT FORD FINALLY CAME UP WITH A RECOMMENDED SOLUTION FOR MY PROBLEM AND THAT I SHOULD BRING THE CAR IN TO HAVE THE TRANSMISSION FLUID CHANGED TO MOTORCRAFT DUAL CLUTCH TRANSMISSION FLUID. THIS HAS BEEN UNSAFE ON A NUMBER OF OCCASIONS, AND I TRY TO NEVER SHIFT RIGHT BEFORE A LIGHT TURNS GREEN, BECAUSE I MAY BE LOCKED OUT OF FIRST AND HOLD UP TRAFFIC. I'M BASICALLY AFRAID OF SHIFTING INTO 1ST GEAR NOW. THIS STARTED AS SOON AS I GOT THE CAR. I TOOK THE CAR IN TO HAVE A TSB PERFORMED AND THEY PUT IN SOME SPECIAL REPLACEMENT TRANSMISSION FLUID THAT IS FULLY SYNTHETIC. IT MADE THINGS MORE SMOOTH AND LESS KNOTCHY WHEN SHIFTING IN GENERAL, BUT THE LOCK OUT FEARS FOR 1ST AND 3RD GEAR PERSIST. *TR

WHEN I AM BRAKING AT ABOUT 3-5 MPH THE CAR WILL LUNGE FORWARD (FEELS LIKE I WAS REAR ENDED BUT NO CARS BEHIND ME) OCCASIONALLY I WILL GO TO ACCELERATE AND CAN'T GET ABOVE 15 MPH I HAVE TO TURN THE CAR OFF AND BACK ON THEN IT'S FINE. THE AIR BAG LIGHT OFF FOR THE PASSENGER SEAT WILL COME ON EVEN WITH A 250 LB PERSON SITTING THERE, I HAVE HAD PEOPLE TRY TO SHIFT THEIR WEIGHT BUT IT STILL COMES ON AFTER 5 MINUTES OF DRIVING IT GOES AWAY. THE PEDDLE PRESSURE TO THE BRAKES FEEL LOW AND I HAVE TAPPED MY BRAKES AND THE ABS ACTIVATED CAUSING THE BRAKES PULSATE AT 25 MPH. THE DRIVER SIDE ENGINE WILL INTERMEDIATELY SEQUEL AND THE CAR WILL IDLE EXTREMELY ROUGH, IT DOES IT MOSTLY AT IDLE BUT I HAVE HAD IT HAPPEN AT A STOP LIGHT AFTER 1 HOUR OF DRIVING. WHINING FROM TRANSMISSION STARTED AROUND 800 MILES AND STILL REMAINS. WHEN ATTEMPTING TO SHIFT INTO 3RD GEAR VEHICLE FREQUENTLY LOCKS ME OUT LEAVING ME SLOWING DOWN IN TRAFFIC TO FIND A GEAR THAT WILL ENGAGE. ALSO EXPERIENCE LOCK OUT WHEN DOWN SHIFTING INTO EITHER 2ND OR 1ST GEAR. THESE ERRATIC SHIFTING ISSUES ARE A DAILY OCCURRENCE AND I'M CONCERNED FOR MY SAFETY IN THE VEHICLE. *TR
6 SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION HANGS WHEN SHIFTING FROM 1ST - 2ND OR 2ND - 3RD UNDER ACCELERATION. THIS HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES BUT BEGAN TO HAPPEN SOON AFTER PURCHASE. THIS IS ESPECIALLY HAZARDOUS ON THE INTERSTATE WHEN TRYING TO MERGE INTO TRAFFIC FROM A STOPPED POSITION. BARELY AVOIDED BEING REAR ENDED DUE TO LOSS OF FORWARD MOMENTUM. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD MUSTANG. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH WHEN A GRINDING NOISE WAS HEARD FROM THE VEHICLE. IN ADDITION, THERE WAS A DELAYED RESPONSE FROM THE MANUAL TRANSMISSION WHEN SHIFTING INTO SECOND OR THIRD GEAR. THE FAILURE RECURRED WHEN DRIVING BETWEEN 10-30 MPH. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE OLD TRANSMISSION FLUID WAS REMOVED AND REPLACED WITH A HIGHER GRADE. THE FAILURE CONTINUED TO RECUR. THERE WAS A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN UNDER NHTSA ACTION NUMBER: 1003914 (POWER TRAIN: MANUAL TRANSMISSION) THAT WAS POSSIBLY RELATED TO THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 10.
OWNER OF A 2011 MUSTANG GT WITH 6 SPD MANUAL TRANSMISSION. HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH ROUGH SHIFTING SINCE 2000 MILES. HAVE TAKEN IT INTO FORD DEALERSHIP 3 TIMES SO FAR. ONE TIME MY TRANSMISSION ACTUALLY STARTED LEAKING AND FORD WAS ABLE TO FIX THE LEAK BUT NOT THE SHIFTING. ROUGH SHIFTING OCCURS IN 1ST-2ND-3RD GEAR. SOMETIMES I GET STUCK AT LIGHTS TRYING TO FORCE IT INTO FIRST GEAR. FORD HAS HAD TECH'S DRIVE IT MULTIPLE TIMES AND THEY TELL ME ITS NORMAL, THAT'S AS FAR AS THE INVESTIGATION HAS GONE. I HAVE 10,000 MILES ON THE CAR AND THE SHIFTING IS ONLY GETTING WORSE. TAKING IT INTO A NEW FORD DEALERSHIP TO SEE IF THEY WILL BE MORE HELPFUL IN FINDING OUT WHAT THE PROBLEM IS AND ACTUALLY FIXING IT. VERY DISAPPOINTING WITH THE WAY FORD TREATS THEIR CUSTOMERS. *TR
MANUAL TRANSMISSION IS CLUNKY AND DOES NOT SHIFT PROPERLY. FEELS LIKE THE SYNCHROS ARE GRINDING ESPECIALLY FROM 1ST-2ND GEAR. HAVE HAD THE SHIFTER POP OUT OF GEAR WHICH I FIND TO BE DANGEROUS. IT IS WORSE WHEN COLD, BUT STILL HAS HAPPENED EVEN WHEN WARMED UP. *TR

I PURCHASED MY 2011 FORD MUSTANG V6 IN SEPT 2010. WHEN THE WEATHER GOT COLD (APPROX LATE NOV), I BEGAN TO NOTICE THAT SHIFTING THE MANUAL TRANSMISSION FROM 1ST GEAR TO 2ND GEAR WHEN LEAVING HOME IN THE MORNING, OR LEAVING WORK AT THE END OF THE DAY, ENGAGING 2ND GEAR WAS VERY DIFFICULT. WHENEVER THE WEATHER WAS BELOW FREEZING, AND THE CAR WAS FIRST DRIVEN AFTER COLD START, IT WOULD EXHIBIT THIS BEHAVIOR. I BROUGHT MY CAR TO ME DEALER FOR THIS AND ANOTHER ISSUE (KNOWN AS "COLD ENGINE TICK" - UNIQUE TO V6). THE DEALER HAD DIFFICULTY SOLVING THE COLD TICK ISSUE, BUT ULTIMATELY DID. THE DEALER TOLD ME THERE WAS NO TSB OR SSM FOR THE TRANSMISSION ISSUE AND TO CHECK BACK PERIODICALLY. THOUGH I REQUESTED THE DEALER TO DOCUMENT THE COMPLAINT AT THAT TIME, THEY DID NOT. WHAT SCARES ME ABOUT THIS ISSUE IS THE LAG TIME REQUIRED TO SHIFT INTO 2ND GEAR WHEN PULLING AWAY FROM A RED LIGHT WITH TRAFFIC BEHIND ME. TWICE I WAS NEARLY REAR-ENDED AS A RESULT OF THIS (I CAN ACCELERATE WELL IN 1ST, THEN SUDDENLY, I'M COASTING TO A STOP WHILE FIGHTING TO GET THE CAR INTO 2ND GEAR - BY THE WAY, THE V6 DOES NOT HAVE A SKIP SHIFT FEATURE). ONLY 2ND GEAR EXHIBITS THIS ISSUE, AND ONLY WHEN THE AMBIENT TEMP IS BELOW FREEZING AND THE CAR HASN'T BEEN DRIVEN FROM MORE THAN ABOUT 5 MILES. AFTER ABOUT 5 MILES IT SEEMS THE TRANSMISSION WARMS AND THE DIFFICULTY SHIFTING IS REDUCED (THOUGH 2ND GEAR ALWAYS HAS MORE RESISTANCE THAN THE OTHER 5 GEARS). *TR
6 SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION FAILS TO SHIFT OR SHIFT SMOOTHLY INTO 2ND GEAR CAUSING A SAFETY SITUATION IN ATTEMPTING TO PULL OUT IN TRAFFIC. WENT TO PULL OUT IN TRAFFIC AND COULD NOT SHIFT INTO 2ND, TRAFFIC WAS BEARING DOWN AND I HAD TO QUICKLY SHIFT TO THIRD. PROBLEM STARTED WHEN CAR HAD ABOUT 1000 MILES ON IT. CAR WAS CHECKED OUT BY A FORD DEALER AND I WAS TOLD IT WAS NORMAL AND NOTHING COULD BE DONE. UPON INVESTIGATION I FOUND THAT THIS IS A WIDESPREAD ISSUE ACROSS HUNDREDS IF NOT THOUSANDS OF 2011 FORD MUSTANGS WITH A 6 SPEED MANUAL TRANS. TRANSMISSION EXHIBITS EXTREME NOTCHINESS AND GRINDING/CLANKING WHEN ATTEMPTING TO SHIFT INTO 2ND. WHAT'S STRANGE IS THAT IT IS INTERMITTENT IN NATURE AND DID NOT HAPPEN WHEN NEW. *TR

SINCE VEHICLE WAS NEW, MT82 TRANSMISSION IS VERY DIFFICULT TO SHIFT IN COLD WEATHER. FREQUENT SYNCHRO GRINDING IN 1-2, 2-3, AND 3-4 SHIFTS. NOW GETTING WORSE IN SUMMER CONDITIONS. STARTING TO GRIND DURING THE 1-2, AND 2-3 SHIFT. ESPECIALLY WHEN TRANSMISSION IS COLD, WHEN TURNING LEFT (1-2), AND WHEN SHIFTING ON ROUGH PAVEMENT. VEHICLE HAS BEEN INTO THE SHOP FOR A FLUID CHANGE (TSB), WHICH DID NOT HELP. FORD REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE ISSUE OR IMPLEMENT FURTHER CORRECTIVE ACTION. I AM CONCERNED THE CONDITION WILL CONTINUE TO DEVELOP INTO THE DANGEROUS FAILURE MODE OTHER OWNERS ARE BEGINNING TO SEE (FAILURE TO ENGAGE GEAR). A RECALL SHOULD BE ISSUED ON THE MT82 TRANSMISSION IMMEDIATELY. *TR
VEHICLES HAS BEEN TO DEALER TWICE DUE TO 1) TRANSMISSION GRINDING FROM 1ST TO 2ND; 2) DIFFICULT ENGAGING INTO 3RD GEAR - BEEN LOCKED OUT, UNABLE TO GET INTO 3RD GEAR ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS; 3) CLUTCH HAS GRABBED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS SHIFTING FROM 1ST TO 2ND CAUSING THE ENTIRE CAR TO SHUDDER 4) ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS, UNABLE TO SHIFT INTO ANY GEAR WHILE ACCELERATING. HAD TO REPEATEDLY PUMP THE CLUTCH IN ORDER TO SHIFT GEARS; 5) UNABLE TO GET INTO 1ST GEAR AFTER COMING TO A DEAD STOP 6) DIFFICULTY GETTING INTO REVERSE. 1ST TIME I TOOK THE VEHICLE IN DEALER SAID THEY COULDN'T REPLICATE THE PROBLEM AND TRIED TO BLAME IS ON THE DRIVER. WHEN OWNER TRIED TO EXPLAIN IN DETAIL EXACTLY WHAT WAS HAPPENING W/ VEHICLE, DEALER REFUSED TO DOCUMENT THE ADDITIONAL INFORMATION. 2ND TIME I TOOK IT TO DEALER, DEALER TECHNICIAN IDENTIFIED CONCERN. FORD TECHNICIAN CAME OUT AND VERIFIED CONCERN REGARDING GRINDING, HESITATION GETTING INTO GEARS. TECHNICIAN BLED AND VACUUMED THE CLUTCH BUT THE PROBLEM REMAINS. REGIONAL CUSTOMER MANAGER WAS SUPPOSED TO CONTACT OWNER REGARDING POSSIBLE FIXES. REGIONAL CUSTOMER SERVICE MANAGER WILL NO LONGER RESPOND TO EMAILS. CALLED FORD HEADQUARTERS LAST WEEK TO LODGE A COMPLAINT AND THEY SAID SOMEONE WOULD GET BACK TO ME WITHIN 48 HOURS. TOMORROW WILL BE ONE WEEK...STILL HAVEN'T HEARD ANYTHING. ONE OF THESE DAYS I'M GOING TO GET REAR ENDED DUE TO BEING ABLE TO SHIFT PROPERLY. *TR
