FRAME IS DETERIORATING DUE TO SEVERE RUST. THE REAR BUMPER IS ALSO RUSTING AWAY. I AM AFRAID TO HAUL HEAVY LOADS WHICH COULD CAUSE THE FRAME TO COLLAPSE. THE STEP RAILS RUSTED SO BAD THEY HAD TO BE REMOVED FROM THE VEHICLE. THE BODY AND PAINT ARE IN GOOD CONDITION.
I WAS DRIVING TO WORK ONE MORNING, AND THE O/D LIGHT (OVER DRIVE LIGHT) STARTED TO FLASH ON MY 2001 FORD RANGER XLT 4.0 V-6 4X4 TRUCK. I HAD NO IDEA IN WHAT THAT MEANT. I DROVE TO WORK, I CALLED AROUND AND THAT IS A TROUBLE CONDITION ON THE TRANSMISSION, I SAID ON THE TRANNY IT ONLY HAS 73 THOUSAND MILES ON IT. I WAS SURPRISED, AND THE TRUCK IS VERY WELL KEPT UP. I TOOK IT A WELL KNOW TRANSMISSION PLACE TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT, AND TEST DROVE, ALONG WITH THE COMPUTER CHECK, AND IT CAME BACK WITH A READING "INCORRECT GEAR RATIO ON 3". I WAS LIKE WHAT IS THAT, HE SAID THAT IS UGLY. SO I TOOK IT AND GOT 2 MORE INQUIRIES, AND 1 FROM A DEALERSHIP. ALL THE SAME 3 RD GEAR TROUBLE. I CONTACTED FORD, AND SPOKE TO HEATHER, AND NEEDLESS TO SAY SHE SAID THAT IT WAS ONLY MY THAT HAS THE ISSUE WITH THE TRANSMISSION NO ONE ELSE DOES. THERE WAS A TSB MESSAGE PUT OUT ABOUT THIS TROUBLE IN MAY OF 01, SO FORD KNOWS THERE IS A PROBLEM. ITS GOING TO NOW COST ME A MIM OF 1500.00 TO A MAX OF 2100.00 TO FIX THIS TRANSMISSION. *JB
I WAS ADVISED BY THE FORD DEALER WHERE I BOUGHT A USED RANGER THAT THE REAR BRAKES HAD BEEN REPLACED. UPON MY OWN INSPECTION THIS PROVED NOT TO BE TRUE. DO I HAVE A LEGITIMATE COMPLAINT AND WHO DO I CONTACT FOR FOLLOW UP? *JB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD RANGER. THE CONTACT STATED THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS WER NOT OPERATING NORMALLY AND THEY WERE LOCKED IN THE UPRIGHT POSITION. THE CONTACT WAS UNCERTAIN WHY THE FAILURE OCCURRED, AND THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED BY A REPAIR SHOP. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,300. *AK UPDATED 03/30/07. *JB
I PARKED MY TRUCK THURSDAY NIGHT FEBRUARY 8, 2007. I PLACED THE TRUCK IN PARK AND REMOVED THE KEYS. WHEN I RETURNED TO MY TRUCK EARLY THE NEXT MORNING, I DISCOVERED THAT THE TRUCK WAS ACTUALLY NOT IN PARK, EVEN THOU THE KEYS WERE OUT OF IT, AND THE SHIFT INDICATOR SHOWED THE VEHICLE BEING IN PARK. HAD THE TRUCK BEEN PARKED ON AN INCLINE IT COULD ROLLED AWAY. I FOUND THE HEAD OF A SMALL SCREW LAYING ON MY FLOORBOARD WHICH HAVE BROKEN FROM THE SHIFTER. WHEN I REPAIRED THE TRUCK ON SUNDAY I DISCOVERED A VERY DISTURBING SITUATION WHERE THE GEAR SELECTOR IS ATTACHED TO THE TRANSMISSION CABLE. THE ASSEMBLY IS HELD TOGETHER BY A SMALL 6MM SCREW, WHICH THE HEAD I FOUND ON THE FLOORBOARDS. THIS HAPPENED AT 99K MILEAGE. *NM
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD RANGER. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 88000 AND THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75000. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE WIRE RUNNING TO THE AIRBAG ON & OFF SWITCH KEPT BLOWING THE FUSE EVERY TIME THE GEARS WERE SWITCHED. THIS WIRE IS ALSO CONNECTED TO THE HEATER. THE CONTACT REPAIRED THE VEHICLE HIMSELF. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
I WAS DRIVING IN THE SNOW IN 2006, WHEN A LOUD SQUEAK COULD BE HEARD FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. I HAD THE TRUCK SERVICE FROM AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THEY CHANGED THE BELT TENSIONER. THIS WASN'T THE PROBLEM. THE TRUCK CONTINUED TO SQUEAK AT ALL SPEEDS AND ALL TEMPERATURE CONDITIONS. SINCE THEN, I HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE INTO 3 DIFFERENT FORD MOTOR MECHANICS AND 2 INDEPENDENT MECHANICS. NO OF THEM KNOW EXACTLY WHERE THE NOISE IS COMING FROM. IT WAS THOUGHT HE BE THE BELT. THE ALTERNATOR WAS REPLACED, BELT TENSIONER, NEW PULLEYS, AND 3 DIFFERENT BELTS. AND QUESS WHAT, THE TRUCK STILL SQUEAKS. I HAVE TEMPORARILY FIXED THE PROBLEM WITH A LOT OF WD-40 ON THE BELT. BUT WHY CAN'T ANYONE TELL ME WHAT IS MAKING THE SQUEAK AND FIX IT. I'VE SUCK ABOUT $3000 INTO THE TRUCK. I REFUSE TO SPEND ANYMORE ON OTHER MECHANICS IDEAS. *TR
TRANSMISSION FAILURE; 2001 FORD RANGER EDGE- HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH PRIOR TO WARRANTY EXPIRING. A TSB FOR THE INITIAL PROBLEM WAS PERFORMED BY THE DEALER, BUT THE PROBLEM PERSISTED AND WHEN ANALYZED, THE SAME ERROR CODE CAME UP. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE ENGINE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS MANEUVERED OFF THE ROAD. THIS OCCURRED SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER REPLACED THE FUEL PUMP. UPDATED 11/30/06. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 15 MPH ON NEIGHBORHOOD STREETS, THE SPARE TIRE FELL FROM UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE ONTO THE ROAD. DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE FRONT SEAT BELT WOULD NOT LATCH. A NHTSA RECALL, # 01V227001 WAS PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE CONCERNING, THE SEAT BELTS: FRONT: BUCKLE ASSEMBLY HOWEVER, THE RECALL DID NOT REMEDY THE PROBLEM. THE DEALERSHIP WOULD NOT OFFER A SECOND REPAIR UNDER THE RECALL. UPDATED 10/25/2006 - *NM
MY 2001 XLT HAD THE FACTORY FIRESTONE WILDERNESS HT TIRE SIDE WALL BLEW OUT ON THE FREEWAY. I ALMOST LOST CONTROL. THE TRUCK ONLY HAS 053265 MILES ON IT, THE TIRE TREAD WAS GOOD AND TIRES HAVE BEEN ROTATED AND BALANCE EVERY 6000 MILES. I E-MAILED FORD AND FIRESTONE, I HAVE PICTURES OF THE TIRE. *JB
BOUGHT 2001 FORD RANGER IN 2005, 18 MONTHS LATER GEARBOX NEEDED REBUILD DUE TO LOSS OF GEAR SELECTION ON AUTO BOX. STILL THE GEARS SOMETIMES DO NOT ENGAGE AND THE O/D LIGHT COMES ON AND GEAR CHANGES ARE ROUGH. I BELIEVE THIS IS A DEFECT IN THE TRANSMISSION FROM WHAT I HAVE READ. *TR
FELT REAR BRAKES LOCKING, TOOK OFF REAR DRUMS FOUND THE LEFT REAR BRAKE SHOES HAD FALLEN APART. THEY WERE CAUSING THE REAR DRUMS TO LOCK UP. THE SHOES FELL COMPLETELY OFF THE RIVETS AND CAUSED SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE TO THE DRUMS. THE VEHICLE ONLY HAS 45,000 MILES ON IT I WILL BE GOING TO THE DEALER TOMORROW. *NM
FAILURE OCCURED WHILE COMING TO A STOP IN HEAVY TRAFFIC. THERE WAS NO HEAVY APPLICATION OF BREAK OR HARD STOP. THERE WAS THE METAL CLUNK SOUND, THEN WHILE MOVING FROM A STOP, THERE WAS HEAVY RATTALING AND BUMPING FELT UP THROUGH THE SHIFT LEVER. SAME COMPLAINT AS DOCUMENTED BY 10119127. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE VIBRATED WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH. IT WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO DETERMINED THE TIRES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. ADDITIONALLY, THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONTACT OF RECALL CAMPAIGN # 01X001000, CONCERNING THE TIRES. HOWEVER, THE DEALER DID NOT REPLACE THE TIRES UNDER THIS RECALL; THEY SUGGESTED THE CONTACT FILE A SAFETY COMPLAINT. UPDATED 04/11/06. *JB
WHILE STARTING VEHICLE MY WIFE WAS NOTIFIED BY HER CO-WORKER THAT GAS WAS LEAKING ONTO THE PAVEMENT UNDER THE DRIVER'S SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO OUR DEALER WHERE WE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE. WE WERE TOLD BY THE SERVICE MANAGER THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL LINE WAS DAMAGED POSSIBLY BY ROAD DEBRIS, WHICH WE HAD REPLACED BY THE DEALER. HOWEVER BEING THE VEHICLE IS A 2001 FORD RANGER PICKUP TRUCK WITH 42,523 MILES I FEEL THIS SHOULD BE A SAFETY CONCERN DUE IN PART THAT IF MY WIFE'S CO-WORKER DID NOT SEE THE PROBLEM AND MY WIFE CONTINUED DRIVING THE VEHICLE CERTAINLY A FIRE AND POSSIBLY SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH COULD HAVE OCCURRED. *NM
THE ENTIRE FRAME HAS RUSTED OUT. REAR LEAF SPRINGS FRAME CROSS MEMBERS, CAB MOUNTS, I WOULD NEVER BUY ANOTHER FORD. *TR
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 55MPH IN NORMAL CONDITIONS, THE VEHICLE CRASHED AND NEITHER AIR BAG DEPLOYED. THE VEHICLE IMPACTED ANOTHER VEHICLE FROM BEHIND AND THE FRONT END OF THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE SUSTAINED DAMAGE. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT'S HEAD CRASHED INTO THE WINDSHIELD AND MAJOR FACIAL LACERATIONS WERE RECEIVED ALTHOUGH, THE CONTACT WAS WEARING A SEAT BELT. THE POLICE WERE PRESENT AND A REPORT WAS FILED AT THE SCENE. AFTER INSPECTION, THE VEHICLE WILL BE REPAIRED BY THE INSURANCE COMPANY.
WE PURCHASED A 2001 FORD RANGER IN OCTOBER OF 2000. IN 2004 THE PINION SEAL BEGAN LEAKING AND THERE WAS AN INTERMITTENT CLICKING/SQUEAK IN THE DRIVERS FRONT SIDE. THE PINION SEAL WAS REPLACED AND FLUID WAS TOPPED OFF. AS WELL THE EXCLUDER SEALS WERE REPLACED AND LUBED TO REPAIR THE CLICKING SQUEAK. THIS WAS ALL DONE UNDER THE WARRANTY. ON 05/24/05 THE TRUCKS CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. IT WAS TAKEN BACK TO CRATER LAKE FORD AND THIS EMISSIONS ISSUE WAS FIXED AND WE WERE TOLD WE WOULD HAVE TO PAY 203.39. AFTER MUCH DISCUSSION REGARDING THE WARRANTY AND THE FACT THAT THOUGH THIS IS NOT COVERED THERE SHOULD HAVE BEEN NO ISSUES THIS SOON, WE WERE FINALLY TOLD THAT THERE WAS A POSSIBLE PROBLEM WITH THIS AND THEY ADJUSTED THE BILL TO 18.49, DID NOT CHARGE THE WARRANTY AN AMOUNT. HOWEVER, THEY PUT ON THE RECEIPT THAT THE PINION SEAL WAS AGAIN LEAKING, THOUGH THEY DID NOT MENTION THIS TO US AND DID NOT STATE THAT THEY WOULD FIX IT AND THAT IT WOULD BE COVERED. WE HAVE THE BEST WARRANTY THAT WAS AVAILABLE TO PURCHASE WHEN WE BOUGHT THE TRUCK. WE TRIED SEVERAL TIMES TO GET THE TRUCK IN, OUR SCHEDULES BEING VERY HECTIC. WE TOOK THE TRUCK IN TODAY, AND WERE TOLD THAT THE PINION SEAL WAS NOT PART OF THE WARRANTY, THAT THERE WAS ONLY A 12 MONTH 12,000 MILE WARRANTY ON IT, EVEN THOUGH THEY HAD FIXED IT UNDER WARRANTY OVER 3 YEARS AFTER PURCHASE AND IT HAS BEGUN LEAKING BY THERE ESTIMATES LESS THAN A YEAR AFTER THEY REPLACED IT. OF COURSE THIS DID LITTLE FOR OUR DISPOSITION AND WE TOOK THE TRUCK AND LEFT. WE HAVE CONTACTED CUSTOMER SERVICE AT CRATER LAKE FORD AND AT FORD MOTOR CORP. NOW WE RECEIVE A CALL STATING THAT THE SERVICES WE WERE BEING SEEN FOR ARE COVERED AND THAT WE NEED TO BRING IT BACK IN. HOWEVER, THE SEAL IS OBVIOUSLY AN ONGOING ISSUE. WE WANT THEM TO FIX THE PROBLEM THAT IS CAUSING THE PINION SEAL LEAK. THEY WANT TO SIMPLY CHANGE THE SEAL AGAIN. WE WANT THEM TO FIX THE PROBLEM, NOT THE SYMPTOM. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE BRAKES LOCK UP AND HAVE TO BE PUMPED TO WORK PROPERLY. WHEN THE REAR WHEELS WERE REMOVED, THE BRAKES FELL APART. THE FRONT BRAKE PADS AND SHOES HAVE BEEN REPLACED TWICE. THE REAR BRAKE PADS, SHOES, AND DRUMS HAVE BEEN REPLACED ONCE. THESE COMPONENTS MUST BE REPLACED EVERY 20,000 MILES. THE DEALERSHIP DETERMINED THIS IS HOW THE BRAKES WERE MANUFACTURED.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE VEHICLE SLID ON BLACK ICE AND ROLLED DOWN A HILL. THE DRIVER SEAT BACK PUSHED FORWARD TRAPPING THE DRIVER, AND CAUSED MINOR INJURIES. A POLICE REPORT WAS TAKEN. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE TOW YARD AND LATER DEEMED TOTALED BY THE INSURANCE COMPANY. THE DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN AN UNRELATED CRASH AND REPAIRED, THE SPEEDOMETER DOES NOT WORK. THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO VIEW THE SPEED OR MILEAGE ON THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN FOR INSPECTION OR REPAIRS.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD RANGER XLT. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE REAR WHEELS WERE SITTING LOWER TO THE GROUND THAN USUAL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE REAR SUSPENSION WAS REPAIRED. A FEW YEARS LATER, THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR FACILITY TO BE INSPECTED WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THE ENTIRE UNDERCARRIAGE WAS SEVERELY CORRODED. IN ADDITION, THE HINGES WHICH HELD THE FUEL TANK TO THE FRAME WERE SEVERELY CORRODED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 67,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 104,000. DT: THE CONTACT STATED THAT 2001 FORD RANGER CRASHED WHILE DRIVING AT 40 MPH. UPON IMPACT, THE FRONT/ SIDE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT DAMAGE WAS CAUSED TO THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALED. FORD M HAS NOT BEEN CALLED. T A POLICE REPORT WAS TAKEN. DT: THE CONTACT STATED THAT SOMEONE WAS DRIVING THIS VEHICLE AND HAD AN ACCIDENT. THE SEAT BELT ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE DID NOT HOLD THE CONTACT BACK, AND HIT THE STEERING WHEEL. UPON IMPACT, THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY UNTIL AFTER DRIVER HIT STEERING WHEEL. HE SAID THE FUEL SAFETY CUT OFF SWITCH DID NOT WORK BECAUSE HE COULD START THE VEHICLE WITHOUT HITTING THE CIRCUIT BREAKER. THE CONTACT WAS GOING ABOUT 35 MPH, SLID INTO A CAR AT A GREEN LIGHT. DEALER AND MANUFACTURER HAVE NOT BEEN CONTACTED YET. THE CONTACT WAS INJURED. THE POLICE CAME AND A REPORT WAS TAKEN. VEHICLE WAS TOTALED. *AK UPDATED 11/29/2005 - THE SEAT BELT DID NOT PROPERLY RESTRAIN THE CONSUMER RESULTING IN MULTIPLE BREAST CONTUSIONS. THE AIR BAG DEPLOYED AFTER THE CONSUMER'S HEAD HAD ALREADY HIT THE STEERING WHEEL. *NM
AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION STARTED SHIFTING HARD, OVERDRIVE OFF WARNING LIGHT CAME ON AND STARTED FLASHING. TOOK CAR TO DEALER AND THEY SAID TRANSMISSION WAS BAD. THIS VEHICLE ONLY HAS 79000 MILES ON IT. SHOWED THEM MAINT. RECORDS, THEY SAID THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. $2800 REPAIR BILL FOR NEW TRANSMISSION. *NM
I PURCHASED THIS MANUAL TRANSMISSION TRUCK FROM A ONE-TIME OWNER THROUGH A DEALERSHIP ON JULY 23, 2005 WITH 30,000 MILES. ON AUGUST 29, 2005, THIS VEHICLE FAILED TO START AS I TRIED TO TURN THE KEY SEVERAL TIMES. I HAD TO HAVE FRIENDS GIVE THE TRUCK A PUSH TO START. THIS DID GET THE TRUCK TO START, AND IT RAN FOR ABOUT 5 MILES BEFORE DECELERATING AND STOPPING COMPLETELY. NOW, NOT EVEN WITH A PUSH FROM OTHERS WILL THIS TRUCK START. AS A CONSEQUENCE, THE TRUCK HAS FAILED TO START. I PLAN TO TOW THE TRUCK TO THE DEALERSHIP ON AUGUST 31ST TO GET IT CHECKED OUT UNDER WARRANTY. *JB
DT: CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD RANGER EDGE. HE BOUGHT IT NEW IN 8-2001. THE NEXT WEEK HE STARTED HAVING PROBLEMS. IT WOULD CUT OFF WHILE DRIVING INTERSTATE. HE LET IT SIT FOR 30 MINUTES -1 HOUR, AND IT WOULD START AGAIN. THE FRONT DOORS STARTED TO COME OPEN UNEXPECTEDLY. THEN IT FINALLY JUST QUIT RUNNING AT 10,800 MILES. HE TOOK VEHICLE TO A DEALER APPROXIMATELY 52 TIMES. THEY WOULD NOT CREATE ANY PAPER WORK AT THE DEALERSHIP;. THEY WOULD NOT MAKE A SERVICE ORDER ON THE TRUCK. FORD FINALLY AGREED TO LET AN AREA ENGINEER MEET WITH HIM AND LOOK AT THE TRUCK. THEY AGREED TO FIX THE TRUCK. HE MADE AN APPOINTMENT TO HAVE THESE ISSUES RESOLVED. THE DAY HE MADE THIS APPOINTMENT IS THE DAY THAT THE DEALERSHIP GAVE HIM A MEMO STATING THAT FORD WOULD NOT WARRANTY THE TRUCK UNLESS THE CONSUMER SIGNED A DOCUMENT SAYING THAT HE WOULD PAY FOR THE REPAIR WORK. OTHERWISE, DEALER WOULD NOT WORK ON IT. HE TOOK IT TO FOUR DIFFERENT BODY SHOPS TO FIND OUT WHAT WAS WRONG WITH THE TRUCK. THEY TOLD HIM THE CAB WAS TWISTED SO BADLY THAT WAS WHY THE DOORS WERE FLYING OPEN. THE MANAGER OF THE FORD DEALERSHIP WHERE HE PURCHASED THE CAR ADMITTED FORD DROPPED IT FROM A TRAIN CAR AND REPLACED THE HOOD AT THE FACTORY, AND SENT IT TO RUSTY WALLACE TO LIQUIDATE. HE HAS LETTER FROM THE WARRANTY DEPARTMENT STATING THE WARRANTY WAS CUT OFF AT THE REGIONAL LEVEL.*AK
DRIVER'S SIDE SEAT BELT BROKE. TAKEN TO REPAIR SHOP AND THE PULLEY IS COMPLETELY BROKEN. *NM
DT: 2001 FORD RANGER. THERE IS AN AIR BAG ON AND OFF SWITCH THAT CAME WITH THE TRUCK. IT MALFUNCTION, AND THE DEALER WANTED TO CHARGE $400.00 TO CHECK THE WIRING. THE PART WILL THEN BE ORDERED BY FORD. CONSUMER WANTED TO KNOW IT THERE WERE ANY RECALLS. WAS TOLD NO RECALL. THE AIR BAG INDICATOR LIGHT WAS BLINKING, AND THE OWNERS MANUAL SAID TO CALL THE DEALERSHIP. CONSUMER CALLED DEALERSHIP, AND THAT WAS WHEN THEY SAID IT WOULD COST TO HAVE IT CHECKED. DT: CONSUMER STATED THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR AJAR LIGHT COMES ON INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP, AND THEY STATED IT WAS A BAD SWITCH IN THE DOOR. THEY WANT TO CHARGE CONSUMER $127 TO FIX IT. . THIS STARTED APPROXIMATELY ONE TO TWO WEEKS AGO. THIS COULD CAUSE DOME LIGHTS TO STAY ON AND DRAIN THE BATTERY. *AK
MY 2001 FORD RANGER REAR SAFETY LIGHTS (TAIL LIGHTS, BRAKE LIGHTS, AND TURN SIGNALS) WILL ONLY WORK WHEN MY TILT STEERING WHEEL IS IN THE FULL UP RIGHT POSITION. I CAN DRIVE THE VEHICLE IN THIS CONDITION EVEN THOUGH IT IS A LITTLE UNCOMFORTABLE. MY WIFE MUST PLACE THE TILT WHEEL IN A LOWER POSITION TO DRIVE. SINCE THERE ARE NO REAR SAFETY LIGHTS WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL IS IN THIS POSITION SHE CANNOT DRIVE THE VEHICLE SAFELY. *KB

2001 FORD RANGER--AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION, REMOVE IGNITION KEY AND IT CAN EASILY BE TAKEN OUT OF PARK. KEY IN IGNITION WITH ENGINE RUNNING, I NO LONGER HAVE TO PRESS THE BRAKE TO GET INTO ANY GEAR. I HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS SAME PROBLEM IN FEBRUARY 2003 WHEN IT WAS REPAIRED BY LOCAL FORD DEALER. *AK
WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH ON A COUNTRY ROAD THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO VIBRATE. THE DRIVER PULLED OVER, GOT UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE, AND PUSHED ON THE UNIVERSAL JOINT WHICH WAS TIGHT. THE CIRCULAR SOUND DAMPER BROKE OFF. THE DRIVESHAFT CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO SHAKE. THE OWNER LATER CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER, AND WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. *AK THIS PROBLEM CAUSED RATTLING AND THE VEHICLE WOULD BECOME HARD TO CONTROL ON THE HIGHWAY. THE CONSUMERS WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED AND THERE WAS NOTHING THAT FORD WOULD DO TO HELP WITH THE PROBLEM. *SC *JB
THE CONSUMER WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT AND WAS HIT FROM THE REAR AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED AND THE AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY. THEY WERE AT A DEAD STOP WHEN THE ACCIDENT HAPPENED.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE PASSENGER SIDE SEAT BELT RELEASES FROM THE BUCKLE WITHOUT WARNING. ADDITIONALLY, THE TAILGATE CABLE ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE BROKE WHILE ATTEMPTING TO OPEN THE TAILGATE. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN INSPECTED BY THE DEALER; HOWEVER THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALERTED.

ON FEBRUARY 11, 2005 MY FATHER WAS DRIVING HIS 2001 FORD RANGER WHEN HE SUFFERED A HEART ATTACK. AS A RESULT OF THE HEART ATTACK MY DAD HIT A TREE HEAD ON WITH THE FORD RANGER. THE TRUCK SUFFERED CATASTROPHIC FRONTAL DAMAGE WHICH ULTIMATELY WAS CONSIDERED A TOTAL LOSS BY MY DAD'S INSURANCE COMPANY. DESPITE THE EXTENT OF THE DAMAGE, THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. MY DAD NEVER REVIVED AND WAS PRONOUNCED DEAD APPROXIMATELY ONE HOUR LATER AT THE LOCAL HOSPITAL. *JB
ON FEBRUARY 27,2004, I PURCHASED FOUR (4) NEW TIRES (HOOSIER TIRES - DOT ADYK 9J0037) FROM A K&D OFFROAD AUTO ACCESSORIES,702 S.COLLINS STREET, PLANT CITY FLORIDA, 33563 (MIKE TAYLOR-OWNER). ELEVEN MONTHS LATER (JANUARY 15, 2005), MY VEHICLE SHOWED SIGNS OF SEVERE TIRE VIBRATION IN THE RIDE AND HANDLING. I IMMEDIATELY TOOK MY VEHICLE TO THE NEAREST TIRE SERVICE COMPANY, LONG TIRE & AUTO SERVICE (AUTHORIZED GOODYEAR DEALER) AND WAS TOLD THAT BOTH FRONT TIRES SHOWED TIRE SEPARATION AND ALL FOUR (4) TIRES HAD CRACKING AS A RESULT OF DRY ROT FOR AGE. THE TECHNICIAN INDICATED THAT THE TIRES WERE ORIGINALLY MANUFACTURED IN 1997, APPARENTLY, SEVEN (7) YEARS BEFORE THEY WERE SOLD TO ME AS NEW TIRES IN 2004. *NM

ON MARCH 22ND, 2004 MCLEAN FORD SERVICE DEPARTMENT IN PINE PLAINS, NY REPLACED THE ROOF SUPPORT ON MY FORD RANGER 2001, WHICH WAS CRACKED. TODAY, DECEMBER 19TH 2004, I WENT TO MCLEAN FORD SERVICE DEPARTMENT WHERE THEY DETERMINED THAT THE ROOF SUPPORT HAS AGAIN CRACKED. THE INITIAL REPAIR WAS DONE UNDER THE 36K MILES/36 MONTHS ORIGINAL WARRANTY. MCLEAN FORD SERVICE DEPARTMENT IS SAYING THAT IT IS NOT UNDER THE 12K MI/12 MONTHS PARTS AND SERVICE WARRANTY, SINCE IT WAS DONE UNDER THE ORIGINAL WARRANTY AND IT DOES NOT EXTEND BEYOND IT. SINCE THE ROOF SUPPORT HAS CRACKED AGAIN I CONSIDER THIS A PART DEFECT, BUT NEITHER THE DEALERSHIP OR FORD CO. WANTS TO ACKNOWLEDGE THIS.*AK

AFTER 15,000 MILES ON GOOD YEAR TIRES I HAD STRANGE WEAR OF ALL 4 TIRES. I WENT TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP BURT FORD 303-643-9020 AND APPROVED THROUGH FORD ALL TIRES HAD BEEN REPLACED. (THIS WAS BOUGHT NEW OFF OF FORD LOT WITH GOODYEAR TIRES) THEY STATED THE TIRES HAD COUPLED? BAD TIRES AND REPLACE. 20,000 MILES LATER THE SAME THING HAPPENED ALL 4 TIRES AND I WAS TOLD BY FORD CUSTOMER CARE, 1-800-241- FORD, AND BURT FORD THAT AGAIN IT WAS THE TIRES AND AGAIN THE NEW TIRES HAVE STARTED COUPLING. I FEEL THIS IS THE FORD RANGER 2001, 4 WHEEL DRIVE, BUILD DEFECT THAT IS MAKING THIS HAPPEN. I AT THIS TIME FEAR THE VEHICLE HAS A MAJOR DEFECT AND THIS WILL MAKE THE TRUCK UNSAFE AND POSSIBLY CAUSE LOSS OF LIFE. FORD STATED THEY CHECKED FRONT END ONLY. THEY ARE NOT TAKING THIS AS A REAL ISSUE AND HAVE NOW PLACED ME AND MY FAMILY IN DANGER. *JB
DT: THE TRANSMISSION WAS SELF DESTRUCTIVE. IT WOULD NOT DECLUTCH FROM THE ENGINE. WHEN USING THE BRAKES THE VEHICLE WOULD CONTINUE TO SURGE FORWARD. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AMCO AND THEY FOUND THAT THE TRANSMISSION HAD BEEN GRINDING METAL. ALSO, THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN TO THE FORD DEALER TWICE, AND THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. THE SECOND TIME THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, THEY FLUSHED THE FLUID. THERE WAS A GRINDING NOISE IMMEDIATELY AFTER. THE DEALER SAID THEY HAD TOO MANY RECALLS AT THE TIME, AND IT WOULD TAKE 5-7 WEEKS BEFORE GETTING TO THE CONSUMERS VEHICLE. THE BRAKES FAILED DUE TO INSUFFICIENT VACUUM PRESSURE UNDER CERTAIN NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS. THERE IS NO BRAKE POWER IF THE ACCELERATOR IS OPEN ENOUGH FOR THE ENGINE SPEED TO REACH 2500 RPM, DURING COLD IDLE (AFTER START UP), FREQUENTLY AFTER RAPID ACCELERATION IN AN EMERGENCY SITUATION WHERE THE BRAKES ARE THEN APPLIED. DEALER AGREED THAT THIS WAS A DANGEROUS SITUATION AND REPLACED THE BRAKE BOOSTER (TWICE), BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER, AND FINALLY THE ENTIRE ENGINE. CONDITION REMAINS THE SAME. DEALER AND FORD ENGINEER NOW STATE THAT IT IS OPERATING AS DESIGNED - EVIDENTLY DESIGNED TO FAIL IN CRITICAL SITUATIONS.*AK
