TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 FORD RANGER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DRIVER WAS TRAVELING 30 MPH WHEN THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO STEER VEER TO THE LEFT. THE DRIVER CRASHED INTO A TREE. THE DRIVER WAS KILLED FROM THE IMPACT AND SUSTAINED SEVERE INJURIES. THE AIR BAG DID DEPLOY. THE FATAL INJURIES TO THE DRIVER WERE CAUSED BY THE IMPACT FROM THE AIR BAG. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED OF THE INCIDENT. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 150,000. THIS TRUCK IS RUSTING FROM FRONT TO BACK.THE MAIN FRAME AND ALL CONNECTING PARTS. I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE NUMEROUS METAL PARTS. THERE HAS TO BE SOME KIND OF DEFECT EITHER IN THE METAL OR THIS TRUCK WAS NEVER UNDERCOATED. IT HAS 84000 MILES AND I HAVE BEEN REPLACING PARTS SINCE 75000 MILES. *TR
WHILE LOOKING UNDER MY TRUCK I NOTICED THAT THE GAS TANK WAS HANGING DOWN ON ONE END (REAR) ALMOST THE GROUND, UPON FURTHER INSPECTION I FOUND THAT ONE OF THE TWO STRAPS THAT HOLD THE TANK UP TO THE UNDERSIDE OF THE TRUCK HAD BROKEN LOOSE, THE PART THAT ATTACHES THE STRAP TO THE TRUCK FRAME HAD RUSTED AWAY, I FEEL THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS CONDITION AND COULD HAVE BEEN CATASTROPHIC. *TR

I WAS COMING HOME FROM WORK AND I WENT TO PARK MY TRUCK IN THE FRONT YARD. WHEN THE TRUCK WAS ABOUT TO STOP THE ENGINE ROARED, AS IF I REALLY HIT THE GAS PEDAL AND I HAD TO JAM THE CAR IN PARK TO GET IT TO STOP. TODAY, AS I WAS COMING HOME FROM WORK, I WAS COMING TO A FOUR WAY STOP IN A SCHOOL ZONE. WHEN I WAS ALMOST STOPPED THE TRUCK ENGINE ACCELERATED AND I HAD TO PUT THE TRUCK IN PARK TO GET IT TO STOP. I NEED TO KNOW IS THERE A RECALL FROM FORD FOR THIS. I CANNOT LET ANYONE ELSE DRIVE MY TRUCK FOR FEAR IT WILL HAPPEN TO THEM AND THEY WILL NOT KNOW WHAT TO DO. *TR
I TOOK MY 2002 FORD RANGER TRUCK IN FOR INSPECTION AND I WAS TOLD MY TRUCK WAS UNINSPECTABLE BECAUSE MY FRAME,CROSSMEMBER, FRONT AARMS ARE RUSTED THIN. IT ONLY HAS 80 SOME K ON IT I ONLY HAVE IT FOR 2YEARS I DON'T DRIVE VERY FAR I BOUGHT IT WITH 74K. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 FORD RANGER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT EQUIPPED WITH THE PROPER SEAT BELT IN ORDER TO SAFELY SECURE A CHILD SAFETY SEAT. THE CHILD SEAT MANUFACTURER NOTED IN THE WARNING SECTION OF THE OWNERS MANUAL THAT THE CHILD SAFETY SEAT CAN NOT BE SECURE UTILIZING THE DOOR MOUNTED SEAT BELTS. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE ANCHOR TO ACCOMMODATE THE LATCH SYSTEM COULD BE RETRO FITTED IN ORDER TO PROPERLY SECURE THE CHILD SAFETY SEAT INTO THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN WAS NOT ABLE TO LOCATE THE PARTS THAT WOULD ALLOW THE LATCH SYSTEM TO BE RETRO FITTED INTO THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT HAD NOT INSTALLED THE CHILD SAFETY SEAT IN THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 151,500.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 FORD RANGER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH OVER A ROAD BUMP, THE REAR FRAME BECAME DETACHED ALONG WITH THE CROSS MEMBER, CAUSING THE SPARE TIRE TO FRACTURE. THE CONTACT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED THAT THE TWO CROSS MEMBERS, THE FRAME BEDDING AND THE REAR FRAME WAS RUSTED AND CORRODED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 93,000.
I PURCHASED THIS TRUCK 1 YR AGO . I TOOK IT IN FOR INSPECTION AND FOUND THAT IT HAD SEVERE RUST PROBLEMS . THE SHACKLES FOR THE LEAF SPRING HAD COMPLETELY ROTTED AWAY CAUSING THE SPRING TO REST UPON THE BOX. THE RESTRAINT FOR THE GAS TANK WAS ROTTED TO THE POINT THAT TANK WAS ABOUT TO FALL OFF. THERE WAS SEVERE RUSTING OF THE FRAME , ESPECIALLY IN THE REAR .OBVIOUSLY, THE TRUCK FAILED INSPECTION. *TR
VIOLENT MISSING, CHUGGING, JERKING UPON ACCELERATION. ACCELERATING ONTO HIGHWAY, ACCELERATING ON HIGHWAY, APPROX. 2500 - 3000 RPM. AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION 3.0 V6. NHTSA #10018746 ONLINE WITH MANY OTHERS REPORTING SAME PROBLEM. TRUCK WILL NOT ACCELERATE. INSTEAD JERKS AND HESITATES VIOLENTLY. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 FORD RANGER. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A NOTIFICATION FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 09V399000 (VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL). HOWEVER, THE PART TO DO THE REPAIR WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCE A FAILURE.
YESTERDAY I HAD SOMETHING GO WRONG WITH MY FORD RANGER AND I NEEDED TO HAVE IT TOWED HOME. THIS PROBLEM WILL BE THE END OF MY WONDERFUL TRUCKS LIFE BECAUSE THE INSPECTION IS ALSO DUE AND I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT DUE TO EXTENSIVE RUST AND A CRACKED REAR FRAME, MY TRUCK WILL NEVER BE ABLE TO PASS INSPECTION. THE BODY, INTERIOR AND ENGINE ARE ALL IN GREAT SHAPE. THE SPARE TIRE SUPPORT IS ALMOST COMPLETELY EATEN AWAY AND THE GAS TANK SUPPORTS ROTTED AWAY YEARS AGO. MY MECHANIC HAD TO RIG A WIRE HANGER FOR THE GAS TANK. WHILE MY TRUCK WAS ON THE FLAT BED, THE MECHANIC MENTIONED THAT RANGERS ARE KNOW FOR THE FRAMES BEING EATEN AWAY. I HAVE BEEN DOING RESEARCH AND UNDERSTAND NOW HOW COMMON THIS PROBLEM IS. WHY HAS FORD NOT RECALLED THIS POORLY MADE FRAME JUST LIKE TOYOTA DID? IS IT BECAUSE NOT ENOUGH PEOPLE HAVE DIED FROM IT??? *TR
THE 2002 FORD RANGER WAS COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP AT ABOUT 3 MPH, WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN THE TRUCK ACCELERATED REALLY HIGH. I THREW THE GEAR SELECTOR INTO NEUTRAL AND IT CONTINUED TO RACE BUT THE WHEELS WERE NO LONGER SPINNING, I HIT THE GAS PEDAL AND THEN THREW IT BACK INTO DRIVE WITH NO FURTHER PROBLEMS. THIS IS THE SECOND RANGER I HAVE OWNED THAT HAS HAD THIS PROBLEM. THE GEARS IN THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL ARE GRINDING AND THE PINS ARE LOOSE. I HAD SHOP TAKE OFF REAR DIFF COVER AND THEY VERIFIED METAL SHAVINGS/SHARDS IN OIL AND LOOSE DIFFERENTIAL PINS. IF THE PINS/GEARS LOCK UP THE REAR WHEELS COULD LOCK UP AND CAUSE WRECK. THERE IS A RECALL FOR THE THIS ISSUE FOR MANUAL TRANSMISSION MODEL RANGERS BUT NOT AUTO TRANSMISSION MODELS. LOOK AT CARCOMPLAINTS.COM AND YOU WILL SEE OTHERS WHO HAVE SAME ISSUE WITH AUTO TRANS MODELS (I AM SURE OTHER SOURCES HAVE SAME COMPLAINTS). LOOKS LIKE SAME PARTS WERE USED IN BOTH MODELS BUT ONLY ONE WAS RECALLED. *TR
DRIVESHAFT THUMP CLUNK ON LIGHT ACCELERATION FROM STOP OR WHEN BRAKING AND COMING TO A STOP. *TR
2002 FORD RANGER, CONSUMER STATED HIS ISSUE DEALS WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL, WHICH WORKED SPORADICALLY. *BF THE CONSUMER STATED WHEN HE PRESSED THE BUTTON FOR THE CRUISE CONTROL, THE GREEN LIGHT WOULD FLASH, BUT IT WOULD NOT ENGAGE. TWO MONTHS AGO, THE BRAKE LIGHTS STOPPED WORKING. *JB..UPDATED 03/16/16 *BF THE CONSUMER STATED THE CRUISE CONTROL WOULD ACTIVATE AND DEACTIVATE ON ITS OWN. IN FEB 2015, ALL THE BRAKE LIGHTS FAILED. HOWEVER, ALL THE BULB WERE STILL GOOD. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONSUMER THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. UPDATED 03/22/16.*JB
TOOK VEHICLE TO MECHANIC BECAUSE OF TAPPING NOISE COMING FROM FRONT END. MECHANIC REPLACED BUSHINGS AND SUPPORT RODS ON BOTH SIDES BUT THE TAPPING NOISE PERSISTED. AFTER RETURNING TO THE REPAIR SHOP, THE MECHANIC POINTED OUT THAT THE BOOTS ON ALL UPPER AND LOWER BALL JOINTS HAD ROTTED OUT AND APPARENTLY LED TO PREMATURE FAILURE OF THE BALL JOINTS. SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED NEW, KEPT IN A GARAGE AND HAS HAD MINIMAL USE OF ONLY 10,000 MILES OVER ELEVEN YEARS, THE MECHANIC SAID HE HAD NO OTHER EXPLANATION AS TO WHY THEY NEED REPLACEMENT AFTER SUCH LOW MILEAGE. I'VE ALREADY SPENT $242 FOR THE BUSHINGS AND RODS. NOW, IT SOUNDS LIKE IT'S GOING TO COST ANOTHER $1000 TO REPLACE THE FAULTY BALL JOINTS. *JB
ON 8/13/2013 THE ORIGINAL FUEL PUMP IN MY 2002 FORD RANGER WAS REPLACED WITH AN AIRTEX BRAND FUEL PUMP.ON 3/17/2015 I HAD TO REPLACE THE FUEL PUMP AFTER IT FAILED,ONLY 18 MONTHS AND 5000 MILES LATER.DURING THE PERIOD OF 6/10/2013 AND 8/16/2013 AIRTEX HAD A FUEL PUMP RECALL ON THREE DIFFERENT VEHICLE MODELS,AS WELL AS HAVING RECALLED DEFECTIVE FUEL PUMPS SINCE.ALSO IN 12/2013 AIRTEX BEGAN OFFERING A LIFETIME WARRANTY AS OPPOSED TO THEIR PREVIOUS ONE YEAR WARRANTY.I HAVE OWNED 6 CARS AND THIS IS THE ONLY TIME I'VE HAD TO REPLACE A FUEL PUMP.I BELIEVE MY LOW MILEAGE MANAGED TO PROLONG THE LIFE OF THE DEFECTIVE FUEL PUMP,AND THEREFORE NEITHER ME OR MY REPAIR SHOP SHOULD BE LIABLE.I ALSO BELIEVE THE HISTORY OF FAILURE WITH AIRTEX PUMPS SHOULD MAKE THEM LIABLE FOR MY REPAIR,DESPITE ANY OUTDATED WARRANTY.I BELIEVE THEIR CONSTANT RECALLS AND OPTING TO PROVIDE A LONGER WARRANTY SUGGESTS THEY DON'T HAVE THE FAITH IN THEIR PRODUCT THEY EXPECT ME TO. I FEEL AIRTEX CUSTOMER SUPPORT FAILED TO ADDRESS MY ISSUE OR PROVIDE ANY MEANS FOR RESOLUTION.THIS IS A DEFECTIVE PUMP,NO QUESTION ABOUT IT.I STILL HAVE ALL REPAIR RECEIPTS AND THE DEFECTIVE FUEL PUMP AND FILTER THAT WERE REMOVED FROM MY TRUCK.THERE IS ZERO CHANCE HOW I DRIVE,PARK OR ANYTHING I HAVE DONE HAD ANYTHING TO DO WITH THIS FUEL PUMP FAILURE,I DO NOT WANT TO BE PUNISHED BECAUSE I PRESERVED THEIR DEFECT BEYOND THE WARRANTY PERIOD,WHICH AIRTEX THEMSELVES DEEMED TO BE INSUFFICIENT,OTHERWISE WHY WOULD THEY CHANGE IT TO A LIFETIME WARRANTY? *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 FORD RANGER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, THE SPARE TIRE HOLDER FRACTURED, CAUSING THE TIRE TO DETACH FROM THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THEY STATED THAT THE SPARE TIRE BED WAS CORRODED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 130,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 FORD RANGER. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE CHANGING FLUIDS, HE DISCOVERED A BROKEN SHOCK ON THE REAR AXLE. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION, HE NOTICED THE FRONT SHOCK TOWER MOUNTS AND THE FRAME WERE FRACTURED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC WHERE THE FAILURE WAS CONFIRMED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED ABOUT THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 171,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 FORD RANGER EQUIPPED WITH GOODYEAR WRANGLER RADIAL (P) TIRES, SIZE P235/75R15. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SHAKE. THE CONTACT PULLED OVER TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD AND NOTICED THAT ALL FOUR TIRES HAD BUBBLES ON THE SIDEWALLS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP WHERE THE TIRES WERE REPLACED WITH ANOTHER SET OF THE SAME TIRES. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT A WEEK LATER THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS ADVISED THAT ALL FOUR TIRES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 44,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 50,000.
MY FRAME IS COMPLETELY RUSTED DESPITE THE BODY, ENGINE AND INTERIOR BEING IN GOOD SHAPE. MY SPARE TIRE MOUNT ROTTED AND THE SPARE FELL OFF. ONE OF THE CROSSMEMBERS THAT HELD THE EVAP CANISTER COMPLETELY BROKE OFF AS I WAS DRIVING STAYING ATTACHED ONLY BY THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR. THE FRAME ON THE PASSENGER SIDE COMPLETELY SEVERED JUST FORWARD OF THE AXLE. THE LEAF SPRING IS THE ONLY THING HOLDING IT TOGETHER AND THOSE SHACKLES LOOK LIKE THEY'RE READY TO GO. FORD SUCKS! *TR
WHEN PULLING INTO A DRIVEWAY, I HEARD A LOUD CRACK FROM THE REAR OF THE TRUCK. AFTER INSPECTION, THE REAR FRAME HAD RUSTED TO THE POINT WHERE THE LEAF SPRING MOUNT DETACHED FROM THE FRAME. IF THIS WOULD HAVE HAPPENED WHILE HAULING A LOAD, OR PULLING A TRAILER AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, IT COULD HAVE LED TO A CRASH. *TR
I NOTICED MY VEHICLE HAD A SLIGHT SAG TO IT SO I TOOK IT IN TO AN INDEPENDENT SHOP, THE MECHANIC GAVE ME HORRIFYING NEWS, STATING MY VEHICLE WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE DUE TO THE FRAME BEING EXCESSIVE ROTTED OUT, HE SHOWED MY WHERE THE SPARE TIRE WAS BEING HELD ON THE RUST HAD EATEN AWAY THE SUPPORT AND SAID I WAS LUCK NOT TO LOSE THE SPARE ON THE HIGHWAY. ALSO THE GAS TANK SUPPORTS WERE COMPLETELY GONE. THE TRUCK HAS 67K MILES. THE OUTSIDE LOOKS BEAUTIFUL AND CLEAN YOU WOULD NEVER TELL BY LOOKING AT THE TRUCK THAT THE UNDERCARRIAGE WAS ROTTED. I FIND IT ABSURD THAT A TRUCK WELL TAKEN CARE HAS TURNED TO THIS... THE MECHANIC SAID THE ONLY WAY TO FIX THIS IS TO REPLACE THE FRAME, WHICH IS VERY EXPENSIVE, SO I'M LEFT WITH A UNSAFE PILE OF RUSTED METAL. *TR
FRAME IS RUSTED AND ROTTING AWAY, BOUGHT IT FROM DEALER 1/21/2015. FOUND OUT TRUCK WAS IN BAD SHAPE 1/23/2015 AFTER GETTING OIL CHANGE FROM LOCAL SHOP. *TR
PER THE ADVICE OF MY MECHANIC, WHILE REPAIRING MY REAR BRAKE SEALS, THEY SUGGESTED I HAVE THE LEAF SPRING SHACKLES, HANGERS & BOLTS REPLACED BEFORE I HAVE A SERIOUS PROBLEM. I HAD THE WORK DONE AND I DID NOT RE-ATTACH THE SPARE TIRE. ITS IN THE CAB. *TR
BROUGHT TRUCK INTO SERVICE CENTER FOR NOISE IN FRONT. RAISED TRUCK TO INSPECT---- COMPLETE UNDERCARIAGE RUSTED BEYOND BELIEF,FRONT TO REAR BOLTS, NUTS, BRACKETS,FRAME, SHOCKS, ETC. MAIN CONCERN IS FRAME, BRAKE LINES --- HAD TO HAVE REAR LEAF SPRING SUPPORT AND BRACKET REPLACED BECAUSE IT WAS READY TO BREAK. HAD SHOCKS REPLACED BECAUSE THEY LOOKED LIKE THEY COULD BUST AT ANY TIME. THIS IS A TRUCK WITH LESS THAN 32,000 MILES --- BODY STILL LOOKS GREAT BUT UNDERNEATH IS QUESTIONABLE IS THERE A RECALL OR SOMETHING I CAN FALL BACK ON ????
2002 FORD RANGER. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO SAFETY DEFECT WITH PLASTIC INTAKE MANIFOLD *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED RECENTLY WHILE DRIVING, SUDDENLY AND WITHOUT WARNING AS HE LEFT OFF THE ACCELERATOR TO MAKE A TURN , THE ENGINE RPM'S DROPPED AND THE VEHICLE STARTED IDLING ERRATICALLY AND ALMOST SLATTED OUT COMPLETELY. THE CONSUMER READ ON A WEBSITE WHERE A PLASTIC PLUG COULD COME OUT OF THE FRONT OF THE PLASTIC INTAKE MANIFOLD. HE REMOVED THE POWER STEERING PUMP AND SOON AFTER, HE DISCOVERED THE PLASTIC PLUG AND ABOUT A 3/8 HOLE IN THE INTAKE MANIFOLD. THE HOLE CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO LOOSE VACUUM IN THE SYSTEM, THEREFORE IT WAS THE CAUSE OF THE ERRATIC IDLE/STALL. THE CONSUMER STATED HE WELDED THE PART BACK TOGETHER AFTER LEARNING IT WOULD COST ANYWHERE FROM $500-$1000 TO REPLACE. *JB
A LOUD THUNK, REAR DRIVER'S SIDE DROPPED, IMMEDIATE STOP AT MECHANIC'S SHOP, EXTENSIVE FRAME RUST AND RIVETED CONSTRUCTION OF SHACKLE BRACKET HANGERS AND SHACKLE BRACKET HAD CAUSED THE SHACKLE BRACKET HANGER TO BREAK FROM THE FRAME. THE SPRING WAS SHOVED UP AGAINST THE TRUCK'S BED. AT HIGHWAY SPEED THIS COULD HAVE BEEN DEADLY. MECHANIC SAID BOTH SHACKLE BRACKET HANGERS AND SHACKLE BRACKETS WOULD NEED REPLACEMENT WITH PROBABLY NEW METAL WELDED TO THE FRAME TO ENSURE THE NEW SHACKLE BRACKET HANGERS WOULD BE STABLE. I HAVE HAD THEM IN TO BE CHECKED ABOUT 3 TIME FOR BEING OUT OF BALANCE AND KEEP ASK THEM ARE THE TIRE BELT AND ARE TREAD DEFECTED. THE TIRES SEEM TO VIBRATE CONSTANTLY EVEN AFTER A NEW BALANCE. I HAVE ASK THEM ARE THE BELTS SEPARATING AND IS THERE A RECALL ON MY TIRES DOT UT70 PA8 0408 AND DOT UT70 PA8 4808? I BELIEVE THAT THESE TIRE ARE DEFECTED. THAT IS WHY I AM COMPLAINING.
