TRAVELING ON STATE ROUT 56 ENTERED THE OFF RAMP TO CONTINUE ON STATE RT.366, AFTER STOPPING AND ACCELERATING TO 50 MILES AN HOUR THE TRUCK JUST STALLED. WAS ABLE TO COAST TO BERM OF ROAD AND WAITED TO BE TOWED, WOULD NOT START.

BEEN WAITING OVER A YEAR FOR AIRBAGS FOR MY TRUCK GOT A NEW RECALL 1/20/2018 IT SAID DEALERSHIPS HAD THE PARTS TO FIX CALL FORD DEALER IN SEVIERVILLE TN THEY NEW NOTHING ABOUT THIS RECALL IT'S A JOKE BEEN WAITING FOR A NEARLY 2 YEARS
AWFUL BANGING SOUND WHILE DRIVING, INSPECTED TRUCK, FOUND REAR BUMPER HANGING HALF OFF. REAR PORTION OF BOTH FRAME RAILS HAD ROTTEN OFF. REAR SPRING SHACKLES ROTTEN AND NOT ATTACHED. I PULLED THE BUMPER OFF WITH MY BARE HANDS! IF IT HAD FALLEN OFF WHILE I WAS DRIVING IT COULD HAVE KILLED SOMEONE. THIS IS NOT AN OLD BEAT UP TRUCK, AS A MATTER OF FACT IT ONLY HAS 17,000 MILE ON IT. IT STILL LOOKS BRAND NEW. THE FORD RANGER XLT 4X4 EXTENDED CAB WAS BOUGHT NEW IN 2006 FOR $20,000, NOW ITS USELESS, CAN NOT EVEN FIX THE SPRING SHACKLES, NOTHING TO ATTACH THEM TO. *TR
TAKATA RECALL I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO HAVE AIRBAGS REPLACED THRU FORD DEALER THEY TELL ME THEY ARE UNABLE TO GET REPLACEMENT PARTS FOR LAST APROX. 2 YEARS
WAS DRIVING AND THE BRACKET AND CROSS MEMBER THAT HOLDS THE SPARE TIRE BRACKET UP BROKE DUE TO THE FRAME BEING ALL RUSTED/SCALELY AND ROTTED OUT WHICH ALSO LED TO THE SHACKLES BEING BROKEN. WHEN THIS BRACKET BROKE, MY SPARE TIRE WAS HANGING DOWN AND DRAGGING ON THE GROUND WHICH COULD HAVE CAUSED A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. AFTER THE TIRE WAS TAKEN DOWN, THIS IS WHEN THE DEPLORABLE CONDITION OF THE FRAME WAS CLEARLY VISIBLE. THIS TRUCK SHOULD NOT EVEN HAVE BEEN SOLD TO ME OFF OF THE WYOMING VALLEY MOTORS DEALERSHIP LOT IN LARKSVILLE, PA. I HAVE HAD THE TRUCK LESS THAN 14 MONTHS AND PUT LESS THAN 3,000 MILES ON THE TRUCK. THE FRAME AND UNDERCARRIAGE IS UNFIT TO BE ON THE ROAD AND SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN SOLD ESPECIALLY AT A BIG DEALERSHIP LOT. I HAVE ALSO CONTACTED FORD AND THEY WILL NOT STAND BEHIND THEIR TRUCK AND DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. *TR
FRAME IS RUSTED OUT WILL NOT PASS INSPECTION. SPARE TIRE HOLDER RUSTED OUT. TIRE WOULD HAVE FALLEN OUT. CROSS MEMBER RUSTED OUT. WE HAVE A METALWORKING SHOP AND WILL WELD AND REPAIR OURSELVES AT GREAT TIME AND EXPENSE. POINT OF RUSTOUT IS NEAR WHERE THE FRONT BRACKET IS TO HOLD THE SPRING. 2006 FORD RANGER V6 3.0 BIGGEST PROBLEM. MULTIPLE CYLINDER MISFIRE. REPLACED MULTIPLE PARTS ALREADY NOTHING HAS WORKED. ENGINE CODE SHOWING MISFIRE IN CYLINDER 4,5,6. MULTIPLE MISFIRES. LOOKED ONLINE MANY OTHERS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. *TR
WHILE DRIVING ON THE TCH IN NEWFOUNDLAND, I HEARD THIS UNUSUAL BANG OUT OF THE REAR OF MY FORD RANGER. I LOOKED IN THE REAR VIEW MIRROR AND SEEN SOMETHING COME FROM BENEATH THE REAR OF MY TRUCK. I PULLED OVER AS DID THE VEHICLE TRAVELING BEHIND ME. THE SPARE TIRE ASSEMBLY HAD RUSTED OFF WHICH LET THE TIRE LOOSE AND FALL OFF. THE TIRE NARROWLY ESCAPED THE VEHICLE BEHIND ME. AFTER CLOSER INSPECTION ON THE TRUCK , THE MAIN FRAME HAD COMPLETELY CRACKED OFF AS DID THE SPRING HANGER. I CONTACTED FORD RELATIONS AND THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. THIS IS TOTALLY UNSAFE OF FORD TO IGNORE THIS PROBLEM WITH THIS FORD AS IT ALMOST CAUSED A FAMILY OF 3 AN ACCIDENT. I HAVE TAKEN CARE OF THIS TRUCK AND HAVE HAD IT UNDER COATED EVERY TOO YEARS. THERE IS ONLY 85000 KILOMETERS ON THIS TRUCK AND THE FRAME IS COMPLETELY RUSTED OUT. MY PROBLEMS HAVE BEEN DOCUMENTED. *TR
TOOK MY TRUCK IN TO HAVE WHEELS CHANGED. WHEN PUT ON THE LIFT, I HEARD TO SOUNDS FROM THE SUSPENSION. BOTH SPRING SHACKLE HANGERS AND BRACKETS WERE RUSTED. THE SHACKLES ACTUALLY FELL APART. I HAVE REMOVED THE BED AND FOUND EXTENSIVE RUST OUT ON THE FRAME . THE DRIVER SIDE REAR FRAME IS BASICALLY GONE FROM RUST OUT. *JS

THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT BOTH DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE REAR SPRING RAIL, MOUNTS AND SHACKLE WERE RUSTED PREVENTING HIM FROM PASSING STATE INSPECTION. THE TECHNICIAN VERIFIED THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE FRAME NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 36,508. PM
ROUGH IDLE NOTICED WHILE STOPPED AT AN INTERSECTION. CATASTROPHIC MISFIRE UPON ACCELERATION THROUGH AN INTERSECTION. TRUCK WAS ONLY ABLE TO "LIMP" 5 OR LESS MILES PER HOUR. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT HAD BEEN TURNING OFF AND ON HOWEVER DIAGNOSTICS SHOWED MISFIRE FOR UNKNOWN REASONS. SPARK PLUGS AND WIRES HAD BEEN REPLACED TWICE WITHIN A YEAR AS WELL. DEFECTED HEAD MANUFACTURED BY FORD. *TR
OF THE TWO REAR CROSS MEMBERS THAT SUPPORT THE GAS TANK ONE SIDE HAS COMPLETELY ROTTED TWO INCHES OF METAL AWAY. THE FORWARD ONE IS NEAR FAILURE THE REAR ONE COMPLETELY FAILED ONE SIDE.WILL PUT SOME SORT WEB STRAP SYSTEM SO THE TANK DON'T FALL OUT TILL WE GET WARMER WEATHER AND REMOVE THE BED TO INSPECT FRAME RAIL. A FRIEND OF MINE HAD TO REPLACE THE WHOLE REAR FRAME ASSEMBLY. THE REAR SPRING SHACKLES ARE NEAR FAILURE. *TR
REAR LEAF SPRING SHACKLES ARE BROKEN, FUEL TANK STRAPS ARE BROKEN REAR STRUTS ARE IN POOR CONDITION, EXTENSIVE RUST ON FRAME. *TR
I HAVE A 2006 FORD RANGER THAT I PURCHASED NEW (ITS MY SECOND RANGER I HAD A 1996 THAT I TRADED IN. I REALLY LIKE RANGERS BUT HAVE RUN INTO A MAJOR PROBLEM WITH RUST ON MY RANGER. THE SPRING SHACKLES RUSTED AND BROKE ON BOTH SIDES LAST WEEK. I TOOK MY BED OFF TO REPLACE THE SHACKLES AND FOUND THE BRACKETS WERE ALSO RUSTED OUT. THE FRAME IS VERY RUSTY AND THERE IS RUSTED HOLES THROUGH ON THE DRIVERS SIDE REAR FRAME. I HAVE NOT GOT TO THE FRAME UNDER THE CAB OR FRONT OF TRUCK YET. IS THERE A RECALL OR CAN I EXPECT HELP FROM FORD. THE SAFETY FACTOR OF THE FRAME CONCERNS ME. *TR
2006 FORD RANGER. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO VEHICLE DEFECTIVE CYLINDER HEADS. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED ACCORDING TO FORDS TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN 05-26-3 THE ENGINES WERE BUILT AT THE FACTORY WITH DEFECTIVE HEADS. IF THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED, THE HEADS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED, AS IT WAS EXPLAINED TO HIM BY A MECHANIC AT A FORD DEALERSHIP. THE CONSUMER STATED IT APPEARED TO BE DEFECTIVE MATERIALS IN THE HEADS, WHICH REQUIRED THE HEADS TO BE REMOVED AND SCRAPPED, ALONG WITH THE HEAD GASKETS. THE HEADS APPEARED TO BE MADE OF SOFT IRON, WHERE THE BASE METAL WAS PERHAPS NOT HEAT TREATED. THE ESTIMATES FOR THE REPAIR OF THE ENGINE, WERE BETWEEN $3,000-$6,000 DEPENDING ON WHAT WAS NEEDED TO FIX THE PROBLEM.
PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE IN 2007 WITH 8K MILES AND HAD SOME RUST ON THE FRAME. NOW, 2013 I HAVE 24K MILES AND THE FRAMES IS COMPLETELY CORRODED AND MY BRAKES ARE FAILING DUE TO THE RUST. HAVE ALREADY SANDED THE FRAME AND PAINTED, BUT THE RUST COMES BACK. THIS A BIG SAFETY CONCERN BECAUSE PARTS CAN BREAK WHILE DRIVING. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD RANGER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, THE SPARE TIRE DETACHED FROM THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT MERGED TO THE SHOULDER AND ATTEMPTED TO SECURE THE TIRE BACK IN THE SUPPORTING RACK BY USING HANGERS AND ROPE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE TECHNICIAN ADVISED THAT THE CHASSIS FRAME NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 65,200.
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND I HIT A BUMP AND MY SPARE TIRE FELL DOWN AND OUT OF THE TRUCK ONTO THE HIGHWAY. I STOPPED IMMEDIATELY AND RETRIEVED MY WHEEL OF THE HIGHWAY AND SAW THAT IT WAS STILL CONNECTED TO PART OF THE MOUNT. THE NEXT DAY I DROVE TO A REPAIR SHOP TO PUT THE TRUCK ON A LIFT TO LOOK AT THE DAMAGE AND REALIZED THAT THE ENTIRE FRAME HAD ROTTED UNDER THE TRUCK. I LEFT THE REPAIR GARAGE AND WAS HEADING HOME WHEN I HIT A POTHOLE THE ENTIRE DRIVER SIDE FRONT FRAME ROTTED AND THE WHEEL FELL PARTIALLY OFF THE TRUCK, SO I HAD THE TRUCK TOWED TO MY OFFICE PARKING LOT AND PARKED IT, BECAUSE IT IS NOT DRIVABLE ANYMORE. I CONTACTED FORD THEY TOLD ME TO HAVE IT TOWED TO A LOCAL DEALERSHIP AND THEY WOULD SEND A REP OUT TO LOOK AT IT. SO I DID AND THE REP NEVER CAME OUT AND THEY TOLD ME TO HAVE IT REMOVED, THAT THE REP CALLED THEM AND SAID THEY WOULD NOT REPAIR ANYTHING, SO THE TRUCK STILL SITS ROTTED AND PARKED, AND REMEMBER IT ONLY HAS 17,900 MILES ON IT, THANK YOU. *TR
RUNS ROUGH AT STOP. HESITATES WHEN ACCELERATES. COULD CAUSE ACCIDENT AT INTERSECTIONS. VALVE RECESSION PROBLEM AS DESCRIBED IN FORD ISSUED TSB. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD RANGER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH THE ENGINE MISFIRED, CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO ROUGH IDLE AND STALL. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A LOCAL MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE TEST RESULTS CONCLUDED THAT THE VEHICLE NEEDED A TUNE-UP. THE TUNE-UP WAS PERFORMED HOWEVER, THE FAILURE WAS NOT CORRECTED. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE LOCAL MECHANIC WHERE A SECOND DIAGNOSTIC WAS PERFORMED, CONCLUDING THAT THE VEHICLE WAS IN NEED OF A TUNE-UP. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT FURTHER SERVICED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 160,000.
THE FIRST INCIDENT OCCURRED ON 12/15/2011 AS I WAS TRAVELING FROM SAVANNAH, GA. TO ATLANTA, GA. I WAS GETTING OFF MY EXIT TO THE I675 AND SLOWED DOWN BY HITTING THE BRAKE AND THE VEHICLE STARTED TO SPEED UP. I WAS NOT USING THE SPEED CONTROL AT ALL AS I MISSED MY EXIT AND SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF IN ORDER TO STOP. ON 12/22/2011 I WAS COMING HOME TO DETROIT, MI. AND HAD AN ACCIDENT IN GA. I WAS TRAVELING AT 35 MPH, IT WAS RAINING HEAVILY AND AS I PROCEEDED TO SLOW DOWN AROUND A CURVE I IMMEDIATELY LOST CONTROL OF VEHICLE AS THE TRUCK FISHTAILED INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC AND I TURNED MY WHEEL TO AVOID A COLLISION WITH 2 VEHICLES IN THAT LANE AND ENDED UP IN A CULVERT.I SUSTAINED MINOR INJURIES BUT LUCKILY THERE WERE NO OTHER INJURIES OR DEATHS AS THIS VEHICLE WAS THE ONLY ONE INVOLVED. AT THAT TIME I DID NOT PUT 2 AND 2 TOGETHER AS I THOUGHT THE ROAD WAS SLIPPERY AND I COULDN'T AVOID WHAT HAD HAPPENED. ON 12/24/2011, I VISITED MY FAMILY IN ROCHESTER, MI. AND WENT TO SLOW DOWN AT A LIGHT AND THE VEHICLE BEGAN SPEEDING UP AGAIN CAUSING ME TO GO THROUGH THE LIGHT AND I TURNED THE ENGINE OFF BECAUSE I COULD NOT STOP THE VEHICLE AND I REALIZED THE PEDDLE WAS TO THE FLOOR. LUCKILY I WAS DRIVING THIS VEHICLE INSTEAD OF MY SISTER WHO ACTUALLY OWNS THIS. THIS IS MY FIRST ACCIDENT SINCE I HAVE GOTTEN MY LICENSE BACK IN 1968 AND IT COULD HAVE BEEN A LOT WORSE. AT NO TIME WAS I USING THE SPEED CONTROL. *TR
THE FIRST INCIDENT I WAS DROPPING MY GRANDDAUGHTER OFF AT SCHOOL WENT OVER A SPEED BUMP AND THE TRUCK STALLED OUT HAD IT TOWED HOME AND IT STARTED ONCE OFF THE TOW TRUCK.THIE SECOND INCIDENT I WAS GOING THROUGH A PARKING LOT AND WENT OVER A SPEED BUMP AND THE TRUCK STALLED OUT, HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED AND THEY REPLACED THE FUEL PUMP. THE NEXT INCIDENT I WAS IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC ON A FEEDER ROAD AND IT STALLED WAS NEXT TO THE SERVICE STATION WHERE IT WAS PREVIOUSLY FIXED AND AFTER APOLICEMAN STOPPED TRAFFIC AND HAD ME PUSHED TO THE SERVICE STATION WAS TOLD BY A SENIOR TECHNICIAN THAT THIS WAS A KNOWN ISSUE ON THE RANGER AND TO PUSH THIS BUTTON WHENEVER IT HAPPENED. I HAVE BEEN DOING THIS A LOT SINCE THIS TIME AND HAVE HAD SOME VERY CLOSE CALLS DUE TO THE STALLING, WITH THE LATEST ALMOST CAUSING A MAJOR ACCIDENT DUE TO OCCURRING A HIGH SPEED AFTER HITTING A ROAD BUMP. THE INERTIA SWITCH ON FORD RANGER?S 2003 THROUGH 2006 ARE DEFECTIVE IN THREE MANNERS ONE THE CONNECTORS BURN DUE TO A HIGH CURRENT DRAW, THE SWITCH ACTIVATES WITHOUT WARNING, AND DUE TO NO KICKPLATE PASSENGERS CAN ACTIVATE THE SWITCH. THIS SWITCH IS USED TO CUT THE FUEL OFF DURING A ROLL OVER CRASH SCENARIO. THERE ARE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ON THE INTERNET IN REGARD TO THE FIRE AND SAFETY ISSUES THIS DEFECTIVE PART HAS CAUSED. TO DATE FORD HAS NOT ISSUED A RECALL, OR NOTIFIED THE CONSUMER BASE OF THE POTENTIAL HAZARDS SURROUNDING THIS ISSUE, BUT HAS ISSUED A REDESIGNED SWITCH THAT NOW COMES WITH A COVER AND UPDATED CONNECTOR FOR PURCHASE WHEN REPLACING THE OLD SWITCH. AFTER DAYS OF REPLACING PARTS IN THE DOOR AND LUBE ADDED TO THE LATCHES IN BOTH THE MAIN DOOR AND SMALL DOOR THE SMALL DOOR LATCH WILL NOT STAY LATCHED !! KEEPING THE DOME LIGHT ON AND THE DOOR AJAR ON IN THE DASH. IT'S NOT THE LIGHT SWITCH THAT'S NOT WORKING IT TESTES GOOD AND NOTHING WRONG WITH IT. THE DOOR LATCH IS DEFECTIVE IN THE SMALL DOOR, WON'T STAY LATCHED OR IN THE CLOSED POSITION , IT ON LATCHES ON IT'S OWN OR AFTER HITTING A SMALL HOLE OR BUMP IN THE ROAD .AND IT DON'T TAKE MUCH TO ON LATCH IT YOU CAN DO IT VERY EASY BY JUST GRABBING THE BOTTOM OF THE DOOR AND PULL IT A LITTLE AND IT LETS GO!! NOT VERY SAFE AND VERY DANGEROUS I WOULD SAY IN A WRECK OR ROLL OVER IT WOULD FLY OPEN YOU WOULD BE THROWN FROM THE TRUCK I WOULD SAY!! TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD RANGER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS A DEFECT WITH THE SAFETY SWITCH, WHICH CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO STALL WITHOUT WARNING. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT THERE WAS A SHORT IN THE SAFETY SWITCH, WHICH CUT FUEL LINES THAT ALLOWED THE VEHICLE TO OPERATE. THE DEALER REPLACED THE SAFETY SWITCH. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED, BUT DENIED ANY ASSISTANCE WITH REPAIRS TO THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 18,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 23,000.

AFTER THE REPAIR, THE CONTACT NOTICED A WHINING NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE MECHANIC WHERE THE MECHANIC STATED HAT THE FRONT WHEEL BEARING AND AXLE WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT WAS NOT AWARE IF THE FAILURE OCCURRED ON THE DRIVER OR PASSENGER SIDE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT FURTHER REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 23,000.

OWN 2006 FORD RANGER SPORT 4X4. TODAY, 06-11-11 I LOST THE REAR BRAKES FOR THE SECOND TIME. THE FIRST TIME WAS ABOUT A YEAR AGO. TRUCK WAS TAKEN TO A FORD DEALER FOR REPAIR. AFTER INSPECTING THE BRAKES, THEY ASKED ME IF I PARK IN STANDING WATER. I TOLD THEM NO, IN A PARKING LOT.THEY SAID THE REAR BRAKE COMPONENTS WERE FROZEN AND CORODED. FRONT WHEEL BEARINGS FIALED WHILE DRIVING. I WAS ABLE TO SAFETLY STOP THE VEHICLE. *TR
VEHICLE STALLED IN MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION AT 46,00 MILES AND WAS FOUND TO HAVE LEAN CODES P0171 AND P0174-THEY REPLACED THE INTERTIA SWITCH. AFTER REPAIR, VEHICLE KEPT GIVING ME THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IF I FILLED THE TANK UP WITH GAS, BUT WOULD CLEAR ITSELF BEFORE I WOULD GET TO THE DEALER. ONE DAY I AM MAKEING A LEFT HAND TURN AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT HAD COME ON ABOUT 5 MINUTES BEFORE. THE FORD RANGER SPUTTERS ACROSS THE INTERSECTION AND THEN SPEED UP VERY FAST. THIS MALFUNCTION CAUSES THE MIL LAMP TO CONTINUALLY DISPLAY TROUBLE CODES P0302 AND P0316. BECAUSE OF THIS, MY VEHICLE WILL NOT PASS THE CA STATE EMISSIONS INSPECTION. THE TSB STATES THAT IF DIAGNOSTIC TESTS INDICATE AN ENGINE EXHAUST VALVE SEAT RECESSION, THE CYLINDER HEADS WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED WITH THE NEW SERVICE HEADS AND IS TO BE COVERED UNDER EMISSION WARRANTY. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP. PACFIC FORD REDID THE DIAGNOSIS AND STATED THE ISSUE WAS OUTLINED IN THE TSB. THEY ALSO STATED THAT THE PARTS WERE NOT COVERED BY EITHER THE NEW VEHICLE OR EMISSIONS WARRANTY COVERAGE. I CALLED THE FORD CRC AND WAS TOLD THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO TO ASSIST WITH PAYMENT TO CORRECT THEIR DEFECTIVE PART. THE FAILURE IS NOT BEING CORRECTED AT THIS TIME. *TR
FORD VEHICLE LOST POWER AND STOPPED RUNNING WITH FULL TANK OF FUEL. WOULD NOT RESTART, HAD TOWED TO REPAIR SHOP. REPLACED FUEL PUMP FOR $606.99. DROVE ABOUT A MILE AND SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN. FOUND THAT THE FUEL INERTIA SHUT OFF SWITCH NEEDED RE-SETTING. BOUGHT A FUEL PUMP I DIDN'T NEED. THIS HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES THIS YEAR AGAIN. FORD DEALER SAID I NEEDED A FUEL PUMP. (35,000 MILES) AGAIN, NO WAY. THE REPLACEMENT PART (INERTIA SWITCH) MOVES THE SWITCH FROM PASSENGER FLOOR AREA TO SIDE KICK PANEL. THE DESIGN CHANGE SHOWS DESIGN FLAW. FORD SHOULD REPLACE FOR NO COST. VERY DANGEROUS WHEN ENGINE DIES.

WENT TO THE DEALER AND ATTEMPTED THE RESET IN THEIR PARKING LOT BEFORE THEY COMPLETED ANY COSTLY REPAIRS. VEHICLE STARTED AND HAS WORKED FINE SINCE. POSSIBILITY OF STALLING IN TRAFFIC IS A CONCERN BUT I'LL TAKE MY CHANCES!! RUN AWAY ENGINE AFTER USING CRUISE CONTROL. THE CRUISE CONTROL HAS NOT FUNCTIONED FOR THE LAST 1.5 YRS. THE ON LIGHT WILL COME ON BUT IT WON'T SET. IT WENT OUT ,BUT AFTER IT STOPPED WORKING THE ENGINE ACCELERATED BRIEFLY WITHOUT THE CRUISE CONTROL ACTIVATED BUT WE HAD PUSHED THE ON BUTTON TO SEE IF IT WORKED. THIS ALSO OCCURRED A SECOND TIME AFTER TURNING THE CRUISE CONTROL ON AND OF. THE FIRST TWO EPISODES WEREN'T TOO BAD AND THE VEHICLE RPM SLOWED DOWN AFTER THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED. APROX TWO DAYS LATER WHILE COMING TO A STOP AND NOT USING THE CRUISE CONTROL THE ENGINE RACED WHILE APPROACHING A STOP LIGHT. I HAD TO STAND ON THE BRAKES TO KEEP FROM GOING THRU THE LIGHT. I AM THE OWNER OF A 2006 FORD RANGER 4X4, 4.0 LITER XLT CLUB-CAB. THIS TRUCK HAS 57,000 MILES ON IT, AND WILL BE 4 YEARS OLD IN MAY. AS YOU ALREADY KNOW, AND AS I HAVE FOUND OUT, THE HUB/WHEEL-BEARING BEARINGS FAIL AT ABOUT 50,000 MILES DUE TO DESIGN FLAWS. AFTER READING ABOUT THE CATASTROPHIC ACCOUNTS OF FAILURES FROM MANY OTHER OWNERS, I AM ASTOUNDED THAT THERE HAS NOT BEEN A SAFETY RECALL. ADDITIONALLY THE CURRENT DESIGN HAS BEEN PROBLEMATIC FOR SOMETIME, AND FORD HAS ADMITTED THEE PARTS MEXICAN AND CHINESE ORIGINS (WHERE COUNTERFEIT PARTS ABOUND). I CAREFULLY (AND SLOWLY) TOOK THE TRUCK TO MY REPAIR SHOP, WHERE IT WAS DISCOVERED THE LEFT WHEEL WAS EXTREMELY LOOSE (FALLING OFF??) AND THE RIGHT WHEEL WAS LOOSE, BUT NOT AS EXTREME. AS FORD IS WELL AWARE, THE COST FOR REPLACING BOTH IS $800. THE REPAIR SHOP MECHANIC SAID THAT THEY SEE A LOT OF THESE (I.E., FORD RANGERS); SOME LESS THAN 50,000 MILES, AND THAT MINE IS NOT AN UNUSUAL CASE FOR THE FORD RANGER, AND I WILL PROBABLY BE BRINGING IT BACK IN ABOUT 40-50,000 MILES TO GET THOSE REPLACED. IT IS SAD THAT MECHANICS ARE NORMALIZING SUCH A DESIGN DEFICIENCY AS TYPICAL AND EXPECTED PERFORMANCE. DUE TO THE POOR RESPONSE TO OTHER FORD RANGER (AND EXPLORERS TOO) OWNERS (2000-2006) AND LACK OF FORDS WILLINGNESS TO RESOLVE THE PROBLEM, I WILL MOST LIKELY RETURN TO TOYOTA. ADDITIONALLY, TOYOTA HAS THE RIGHT ATTITUDE IN WANTING TO RESOLVE CUSTOMER PROBLEMS TO REGAIN THEIR TRUST AND WIN THEM BACK AS EVIDENT BY RECENT ISSUES. I WAS PULLING INTO SHERRY'S MINI MART IN DOE RUN, MO WHEN I REALIZED THAT MY TRUCK WAS NOT SLOWING DOWN AS EXPECTED, EVEN THOUGH I HAD MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE. I HAD LITTLE TIME TO REACT AS I WAS BEARING DOWN ON THE BUILDING. I PUT MY OTHER FOOT ON THE BRAKE BUT THE TRUCK CONTINUED TO MOVE FORWARD, EVEN SPINNING THE TIRES TRYING TO OVERCOME THE BRAKES. I JUMPED THE CURB AND HIT THE BUILDING AT A VERY LOW SPEED. AT THIS TIME I MANAGED TO POP IT OUT OF GEAR. I DID NOT GO THROUGH THE WALL, BUT PUSHED IT IN ABOUT A FOOT. MY AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. MOST OF THE DAMAGE WAS TO THE WALL AND THE INTERIOR OF THE BUILDING. THERE WAS LITTLE DAMAGE TO MY TRUCK OTHER THAN A FEW SCRATCHES ON THE BUMPER. LUCKILY NO ONE WAS WALKING IN FRONT OF ME OR NEAR THE INSIDE OF THE BUILDING. THIS WAS THE ONLY TIME THIS HAS OCCURRED IN THE 50,000 MILES THAT I HAVE OWNED THIS TRUCK AND IT HAS NOT HAPPENED IN THE DAYS FOLLOWING. I TOOK MY TRUCK TO MY FORD DEALER THE NEXT MORNING AND THEY CLAIM THEY COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG. THEY COULD FIND NO FAULT CODES IN THE COMPUTER AND CONFIRMED THAT THERE WAS NO DAMAGE OTHER THAN THE SCRATCHES ON THE BUMPER. THEY DID IMPLY THAT I WAS HITTING THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WITH THE SIDE OF MY FOOT WHILE BRAKING. I STRONGLY DISAGREE WITH THEIR IMPLICATION AND HAVE WITNESSES WHO SAW MY EFFORTS TO STOP THE TRUCK. *TR
INERTIA SWITCH IN 2006 FORD RANGER CAUSES TRUCK TO STALL RANDOMLY. SWITCH IS LOCATED ON PASSENGER-SIDE IN COMPARTMENT BY THE FOOT. THIS RANDOM STALLING IS ESPECIALLY DANGEROUS WHILE IN THREE LANE TRAFFIC, RAILROAD CROSSINGS, INTERSECTIONS, BRIDGES, ETC.. THIS SWITCH IS DESIGNED TO CUT ELECTRIC TO FUEL PUMP IN CRASH BUT MOST OFTEN FAILS DURING NORMAL DRIVING OPERATION. THIS IS NOT A UNIQUE COMPLAINT TO 2006, BUT BY OTHER YEARS REPORTED ON THE INTERNET. THIS PROBLEM HAS EXISTED FOR MANY YEARS AND IS PROBABLY RESPONSIBLE FOR MORE DEATHS DUE TO ERRANT OPERATION THAN IT SAVED LIVES IN A CRASH. I BOUGHT A NEW 2006 FORD RANGER SPORTS TRUCK FROM AKINS FORD IN APRIL 2006. THE TRUCK HAD GOODYEAR WRANGLER TIRES ON THE TRUCK WHEN I BOUGHT IT. I ROTATED THE TRUCK SEVERAL TIMES SINCE OWNING THE TRUCK AND HAVE EVEN HAD A FLAT TIRE. THE TIRE WAS REPLACE, REPAIRED AND THEN PUT BACK ON THE TRUCK. I WAS PREPARING FOR A HIGHWAY TRIP TO NEW ORLEANS, SO I WAS HAVING THE TIRES ROTATED WHEN I DISCOVERED THAT ALL 4 FOUR OF THE TIRES WERE DRYROTTING. EACH TIRE HAD EVIDENCE OF THE DRYROTTING ON THE INSIDE (THE OPPOSITE SIDE FROM THE RAISED WHITE LETTERING) OF THE TIRE. I CONTACTED GOODYEAR CUSTOMER SERVICE AND REFERRED TO A LOCAL GOODYEAR DEALER. THE EXAMINED THE TIRES AND ESTIMATED THAT I HAD 50% WEAR LEFT ON THE TIRES. MY TRUCK HAS 74,000+ MILES ON THE ORIGINAL TIRES. GOODYEAR WAS ONLY WILLING TO PRORATE THE REMAINING WEAR FOR THE COST OF NEW SET OF GOODYEAR. I DID NOT WANT ANOTHER SET OF GOODYEAR SINCE THE PROBLEM WAS NEW TIRES THAT WERE DRYROTTED AND SURELY HAD NOT PLANNED TO PURCHASE A NEW SET OF TIRES AT THIS TIME.
