ALUMINUM ENGINE PISTON RING CRACKED/REPLACED. REAR SUBFRAME MOUNTS FAILED DUE TO CORROSION , CAUSING ENGINE/TRANSMISSION TO FALL DOWN PRIOR TO/AFTER RECALL REPAIRS. IN ADDITION, RADIATOR HAD HOLES IN THE PLASTIC/TRANSMISSION MALFUNCTIONED/FRONT END HAS BEEN WELDED SO FA ROUT OF LINE THAT WELDS HAD TO BE BROKEN TO CORRECT MISALIGNMENT/WINDSHIELD WIPERS FAILED TO CLEAN WINDOWS/RONT HEADLIGHTS WENT OUT AND REA RLIGHTS FAILED. (93V-106.002). *AK
WHILE MAKING A RIGHT TURN OUTER TIE ROD BROKE, CAUSING THE STEERING TO LOCK UP. DEALER HAS NOT SEEN. *AK

THE WIPERS STOP IN THE UP POSITION WHEN THE SWITCH IS IN THE OFF POSITION CAUSING AN OBSTRUCTION WHEN LOOKING THROUGH THE WINDSHIELD. I ASKED DEALER ABOUT THIS SITUATION AND THEY SAID IT WAS COMMON FOR THIS MAKE AND MODEL YEAR OF CAR. IF IT IS SO COMMON THEN WHY HAS NOTHING BEEN DONE ABOUT IT. THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME.
I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE USED IN 1997. THE SELLER HAD THE TRANSMISSION RE-BUILT A FEW MONTHS BEFORE, BUT TO NO AVAIL. I HAD THE TRANSMISSION RE-BUILT A FEW MONTHS AFTER PURCHASE, AND RETURNED IT ABOUT THREE TIMES, AGAIN TO NO AVAIL. THE FAILURE IS VERY HARD AND JOLTING DOWNSHIFTING FROM THIRD TO SECOND--TRAVELING ABOUT 25-30 M.P.H. IN THIRD, SLOWING TO ABOUT 15 M.P.H., AND ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE AGAIN. THE VEHICLE ALSO FREQUENTLY STICKS IN FIRST FROM A STOP, AND SLAMS INTO SECOND AT ABOUT 25 MPH. ALSO, SOMETIMES ON DOWNSHIFTS FROM THIRD WHEN TRYING TO ACCELERATE FROM 25-30 M.P.H., THE TRANSMISSION SKIPS TO FIRST AND IMMEDIATELY SLAMS INTO SECOND WITH THE ENGINE AT VERY HIGH R.P.M.'S. ALSO, FROM A COMPLETE STOP, THE CAR SOMETIMES STARTS IN SECOND, EVEN WHEN THE GEAR SHIFT LEVER IS PLACED IN THE "1" POSITION. I HAVE SINCE DRIVEN IN OTHER TAURUSES OF THAT OR SIMILAR YEARS, AND I HAVE YET TO SEE ONE WITH A GOOD TRANSMISSION.
MOTOR MOUNTS REPLACED, REPLACEMENT MOUNTS BECAME LOOSE CAUSING DAMAGE TO THE POWER STEERING AND EXCESSIVE WEAR TO STRUTS.
TRANSMISSION FAILED.
RECALL 98S36 (REAR LOWER SUBFRAME MOUNT PLATE NUT) NOT PERFORMED IN A TIMELY MANNER DUE TO DEALER SCHEDULING.
TRANSMISSION FAILED TWICE ON THE HIGHWAY, CAUSING COMPLETE POWER LOSS, ONCE AFTER HAVING BEEN REBUILT, ESPECIALLY DANGEROUS SITUATION ON THE HIGHWAY.
ENGINE MOUNTS BROKE SERVERAL TIMES WHICH CAUSED THE ENGINE TO DROP OR MOVE. PLEASE GIVE ANY FURTHER DETAILS. *AK

WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH AND WITH 60,00O MILES ON THE VEHICLE TRANSMISSION PREMATURELY FAILED. CAUSE UNKNOWN. *AK
WHILE DRIVING FRONT MOTOR MOUNTS SEPARATED FROM BODY, AUSING THE ENGINE TO DROP AND COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN, RESULTING IN A COLLISION. *AK
VEHICLE WAS PARKED FOR 10-15 MINUTES WITH ENGINE TURNED OFF, WHEN A FIRE STARTED IN THE ENGINE, ,UNDRNEATH THE HOOD. DEALER CANNOT DETERMINE CAUSE OF FIRE. *AK
WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY, ALL OF A SUDDEN VEHICLE STOPPED ACCELERATING. DEALER SAIS VEHICLE NEEDED NEW TRANSMISSION. *AK
THE AIR CONDITIONER HAS GONE OUT DUE TO THE COMPRESSOR. DEALER HAS NOT SEEN VEHICLE. *AK
THE AIR CONDITIONER GOES OUT BECAUSE OF THE COMPRESSOR. HAS HAPPENED TWICE. DEALER HAS REPLACED COMPRESSOR ONCE. *AK
THE FRONT MOTOR MOUNTS BROKE. ALSO, REAR SUB-FRAME MOUNTS ARE SHEARING OFF. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER HAVE BEEN NOTIFIED. *AK
THE BODY PAINT HAS PEELED OFF OF ROOF AND FRONT OF VEHICLE. THE PAINT IS BLACK AND THE PEELED SECTIONS HAVE TURNED WHITISH-GRAY. I HAVE SEEN THIS ON OTHER FORD TAURUSES OF SAME YEAR. I HAVE HAD THIS COMPLAINT FOR THREE YEARS . FORD DOES NOT ADMIT TO THIS CONDITION BEING UNUSUAL.
ENGINE HESITATED DUE TO THE MOTOR MOUNTS BEING LOOSE. DEALER REPLACED MOTOR MOUNTS, AND MOUNTS HAVE COME LOOSE AGAIN. *AK

AMPLIFIER FOR CRUISE CONTROL HAS BECAME DEFECTIVE, CAUSING GAS PEDAL TO STICK TO FLOOR AT VARIOUS TIMES UNEXPECTEDLY. CONSUMER MUST SHUTDOWN VEHICLE, AND TURN OFF THE IGINTION TO MAINTAIN CONTROL. ONCE VEHICLE IS RESTARTED PEDAL WILL RELEASE ITSELF. DEALER DISCONNECTED THE AMPLIFIER AND CRUISE CONTROL ELECTRICAL AND VACUUM BOX.*AK

THE VEHICLE HAS HAD SERIOUS DEFECTS WITH THE 3.8 LITER HEAD GASKETS AND THE AXODE TRANSMISSION, CONSUMER HAS FILED A CLAIM IN THE SMALL CLAIMS COURT. *MJS
THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED SUDDEN ACCELERATION, THE DEALER REPLACED THE CV JOINTS AND BOOTS, HOWEVER THIS DID NOT REMEDY THE PROBLEM. *SLC
CONSUMER WAS TRAVELING ABOUT 55MPH ON HIGHWAY, AND SUDDENLY SOMETHING INSIDE OF STEERING COLUMN LOCKED UP WITHOUT PRIOR NOTICE, AND CAR WAS STUCK. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO DEALERSHIP. STEERING BELT BROKE AND A/C COMPRESSOR LOCKED UP THAT WAS WHY STEERING COLUMN WOULDN'T MOVE. *AK
STEERING RACK WAS LOOSE AND FELL OFF. I HAVE HEARD THAT THIS MODEL HAS HAD A HISTORY OF PROBLEMS WITH THE STEERING RACKS.*AK
AIR BAG LIGHT HAS BEEN ILLUMINATING ON DASH. CONSUMER HAS CONTACTED DEALER, DEALER NOTICED WIRING HARNESS HAD SHORT CIRCUITED, CAUSING LIGHT TO ILLUMINATE. ALSO, EXPERIENCED A PROBLEM WITH TOTAL LOSS OF STEERING POWER. CONSUMER HAS CONTACTED DEALER. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY FURTHER DETAILS. *AK
