I RECENTLY PURCHASED THE 70,000 MILE WARRANTY TIRES DESCRIBED. WITHIN A COUPLE OF WEEKS ONE OF THE TIRES SPLIT APART ON THE SIDE WHILE I WAS TRAVELING APPROX. 30 MPH. IT WAS RULED DEFECTIVE AND REPLACED. ON 7/28, WHILE GOING 70 MPH ON THE INTERSTATE A SECOND TIRE SPLIT APART RESULTING IN A WRECK WITH INJURIES. THE TIRE PLACE WHERE I PURCHASED THE TIRES SAID IT FAILED AND SPLIT APART AFTER THEY EXAMINED WHAT WAS LEFT OF THE TIRE. A WEEK LATER I HEARD ABOUT THE FIRESTONE PROBLEMS AND I WAS WONDERING WHETHER OR NOT BF GOODRICH HAD HAD REPORTED PROBLEMS WITH THESE TIRES AS I HAVE HAD TWO COME APART? ANYWAY, I WANTED TO REPORT THIS TO YOU BECAUSE IF IT IS A PROBLEM I DON'T WANT TO SEE ANYONE KILLED OR INJURED ANY MORE SERIOUSLY THAN MY SON AND I WERE.( DOT NUMBER: URTU11 TIRE SIZE: P205/65R15 )
THE HEAD GASKET WAS ALLOWING WATER TO ENTER THE ENGINE AND ANTI-FREEZE WAS BURNING IN THE ENGINE. NLM
VACUUM BRAKING POWER ASSIST HAS BROKEN 3 TIMES, RESULTING IN LOSS OF POWER BRAKING. MANUAL BRAKING IS NEXT TO IMPOSSIBLE.*AK
MOTOR MOUNTS BROKE, CAUSING ENGINE TO DROP WHILE DRIVING WHICH MAY HAVE CAUSED A LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROL. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER INFORMATION.*AK
WHILE MAKING A RIGHT TURN INTO A BUSINESS PARKING LOT, THE TIE ROD END SNAPPED OFF CAUSING THE DRIVER SIDE WHEEL TO TURN IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION AND THROWING THE CAR TO STOP. FORTUNATE FOR MY WIFE THAT SHE WASN'T DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY WHEN THIS HAPPENED. THE CAR WAS TOWED BY AAA TO A FORD DEALER WHERE DRIVER SIDE TIE ROD WAS REPLACED FOR 170 DOLLARS. I AM VERY CONCERNED THAT THE PASSENGER TIE ROD COULD SIMILARLY SNAP WHILE THE VEHICLE IS BEING DRIVEN DOWN THE HIGHWAY!
ENGINE 3.8 HEAD GASKET BLEWOUT. THERE WERE NO PRIOR WARNING. CONSUMER WAS TRAVELING ON THE HIGHWAY, AND SHE WAS LOOKING THOUGH HER SIDE MIRROR AND NOTICED WHITE SMOKE COMING FROM UNDERNEATH VEHICLE.*AK
WHILE ATTEMPTING TO START VEHICLE ENGINE WOULD NOT TURN OVER AND START. DEALERSHIP EXAMINED VEHICLE, AND DETERMINED THAT HEAD GASKET NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *AK *SLC
AFTER $1200 DOLLARS IN REPLACEMENT OF SENSORS, $1500 IN REBUILDING THE ENGINE BECAUSE OF DEFECTIVE TEMPERATURE MECHANISMS, AND PUTTING ON NEW PART AFTER PART WHICH THE DEALERSHIP AND MECHANICS KEEP TELLING ME WILL FIX THE PROBLEM, MY CAR STILL STALLS, LOOSES POWER AND GOES INTO SPASMS FROM ONE GEAR TO ANOTHER. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS CAR, WHAT INVESTIGATION YOU ARE TAKING TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM OF CONSUMERS GETTING SOAKED.*AK
IF THIS PART FAILURE HAPPENED AT SPEED THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN A VERY SERIOUS, POSSIBLY CATASTROPHIC ACCIDENT. THE CAR HAS BEEN METICULOUSLY MAINTAINED AND SENSIBLY DRIVEN. I AM FRIENDS WITH THE PREVIOUS OWNER AND KNOW THAT HE TOOK EXCEPTIONAL CARE OF THE CAR AND ALSO DROVE IT VERY CONSERVATIVELY. I HAVE THE FAILED PART AVAILABLE FOR INSPECTION IF YOU NEED IT. I BELIEVE THE PART FAILED DUE TO POOR MACHINING OR INCORRECT HEAT TREATING. AS POPULAR AS THIS MODEL IS I FELT IT VERY IMPORTANT TO REPORT THIS SITUATION.*AK
PULLED UP TO A STOP SIGN AND RIGHT SIDE INNER TIE ROD BROKE. ABOUT SIX WEEKS AGO, INNER TIE ROD ON THE LEFT SIDE BROKE. BOTH OF THE TIE RODS BROKE BY THE BALL JOINT. BOTH TIE RODS HAVE BEEN REPLACED AT OWNER'S EXPENSE. *AK *ML
ENGINE HEAD GASKETS BLEW OUT, CAUSING COOLANT TO LEAK ONTO THE ENGINE. DEALER HAS BEEN NOTIFIED. *AK BRAKE SYSTEM TOTALLY REBUILT AT 52,453, MOTOR MOUNTS AND TRANSMISSION MOUNTS REPLACED AT 35,771, TRANSMISSION REBUILT AT 62,188 MILES. *YH
REAR SUBFRAME MOUNTS BROKE IN HALF DUE TO CORROSION . A RECALL HAS BEEN ISSUED ON THE VEHICLE'S MAKE/MODEL. HOWEVER, THIS VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED DUE TO VIN.*AK

MY REAR BRAKE SYSTEM KEEPS COMING APART. THIS FIRST HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING AT 55 M.P.H. AND I HAD TO BRAKE SUDDENLY. I HAD TO DRIVE AROUND VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME TO AVOUD A CRASH, I HAD A MECHANIC PUT THEM BACK TOGETHER BUT THE PROBLEM KEEPS PERSISTING EVEN THOUGH I HAVE HAD THE BRAKE SYSTEM COMPLETELY REDONE. THE PROBLEM WITH MY CRUISE CONTROL IS THAT WHEN I USE IT AND SET IT THE CAR WILL GO THAT SPEED AND AFTER A WHILE WILL INCREASE THE SPEED ON IT'S OWN.I HAVE ALMOST GOTTEN A TICKET BECAUSE OF THIS AND SINCE EVERYTIME I USE IT THIS HAPPENS I HAVE STOPPED USING THE CRUISE CONTROL.*AK

WHEN VEHICLE WAS HIT ON THE RIGHT FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE IN AN INTER-SECTIONAL CRASH, THERE WAS NO DEPLOYMENT OF DRIVER'S SIDE OR THE PASSENGER'S SIDE AIR BAGS. CRASH WAS REPORTED TO THE INSURANCE COMPANY. OWNER NOT SURE IF THE VEHICLE WILL BE REPAIRED OR TOTALLED. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION. *AK
I WAS INFORMED BY THE FORD DEALEERSHIP THE COMPLETE ENGINE REPLACEMENT WAS THE DIRECT RESULT OF THE TWO HEAD-GASKET FAILURES. I REASEARCHED THIS PROBLEM ON THE INTERNET/YAHOO. I WAS SURPRISED TO LEARN THIS WAS A COMMON PROBLEM FOR FORDS 90-96 3.8L ENGINE. FORD CURRENTLY HAS A PROGRAM FOR 94-96 3.8L ENGINES AND A SECRET WARRENTY FOR THE 93 3.8 L ENGINE. HOWEVER IT HAS NO PROGRAM FOR THE SAME FAILURES IN THE 1992 ENGINE. *AK
DURING HOT WEATHER BOLTS HOLDING ALLOY WHEEL TO AXLE SHEARING. FIRST ON JULY 5, 1999, AND SECOND ON MAY 3, 2000. ON THE FIRST OCCASION THREE BOLTS SHEARED ON THE LEFT FRONT WHEEL AND ONE ON THE RIGHT FRONT. ON THE SECOND OCCASION TWO BOLTS SHEARED ON THE LEFT FRONT WHEEL. BOTH INSTANCES OCCURED DURING HOT WEATHER WITH TEMPS IN THE LOW 90'S.
MY AIR CONDITIONER WENT OUT (ENTIRE SYSTEM) JUST AFTER HAVING IT A YEAR, I THEN PROCEEDED TO HAVE TO HAVE THE TRANSMISSION REPLACED, ALONG WITH MANY MANY OTHER SMALL PARTS, SUCH AS IDLER PULLY, WATER PUMP, ETC, ALL BEFORE MY EXTENDED WARRANTY WAS UP. JUST AFTER MY EXTENDED WARRANTY WAS UP AT 80,000 MILES I HAD TO REPLACE MY RADIATOR. MY ENGINE WAS BABIED, MY HUSBAND CHANGED THE OIL FAITHFULLY EVERY 2500 MILES, CHANGED AIR FILTERS, FLUSHED THE TRANSMISSION, ANYTHING TO MAINTAIN THE VEHICLE, BECAUSE BY THIS TIME I WAS TRAVELING FAR TO WORK EVERYDAY, (35MILES 1 WAY), SO I HAVE PUT A LOT OF HIGHWAY MILES ON IT, THEN WITHOUT WARNING THE HEADGASKET BLEW, SENDING ANTIFREEZE INTO THE ENGINE. IF I HAD KNOWN ABOUT THE PROBLEMS THEY WERE HAVING, I WOULD HAVE HAD IT TAKEN CARE OF, SINCE I DIDN'T I MISSED A LOT OF WORK AND HAD TO BUY A NEW CAR, SINCE THE EXPENSE OF REPAIR WASNT WORTH IT. THIS CAR HAS BEEN A COMPLETE LEMON, AND I HAVE THE $6000 WORTH OF WARRANTY WORK AS PROOF, PLUS THE ENGINE BLOWING. *AK
SINGLE THUMP SOUND WHEN SHIFTED THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION TO REVERSE, THEN SHIFT TO GO FORWARD THE ENGINE SUDDENLY RACED CAUSING THE CAR TO ACCELERATE UNCONTROLLABLY. DUE TO IDLE AIR CONTROL LOCATED ON TOP OF THE ENGINE BROKE, CAUSING ENGINE TO RACE AT TOP SPEED, ENGINE CAME LOOSE FROM THE MOUNTS, FLOWN UP STRIKING THE UNDERSIDE OF THE HOOD AND BREAKING THE IDLE AIR CONTROL, SUBFRAME MOUNT BOLTS WERE REPLACED.
WHILE DRIVING STEPPED ON THE ACCELERATOR AND VEHICLE LOST STOPPING POWER. ALSO, SMOKE WAS COMING FROM THE FRONT, AND VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE AFTER STOPPING (JUST BEFORE LOSING POWER THE ENGINE CHECK LIGHT FLASHED ON AND OFF). *AK.ET.
THE MOTOR MOUNTS REPAIRED UNDER RECALL 98V-323 THEN FAILED AGAIN. NLM

I AM MAKING THIS REPORT A LITTLE OVER A YEAR AFTER THE INCIDENT BECAUSE FORD MOTOR COMPANY HAS NOT TAKEN RESPONSIBILITY FOR WHAT IS OCCURRING IN THE 1992 MODEL AS THEY HAVE IN SOME OF THE LATER MODELS EVEN THOUGH IT INVOLVES THE SAME ENGINE. I HAVE BEEN FOLLUNG THE REPORTS SENT TO THE NHTSA OVER THIS TIME AND HAVE SEEN AN INCREASING NUMBER OF REPORTS FILED DESCRIBING THE SAME PROBLEM I HAVE EXPERIENCED IN MY 1992 TAURUS. I BELIEVE SINCE THE SAME PROBLEM IS OCCURRING IN THE 1994 SABLE AND THEY HAVE ISSUED A RECALL IN THAT INSTANCE, THEY ALSO SHOULD RECALL THE FORD MODELS SINCE THEY INVOLVE THE SAME ENGINE.*AK

WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED COULD HEAR NOISE COMING FROM THE ENGINE. HEAD GASKET BLEW UP, AND VEHICLE HAD TO BE TOWED TO REPAIR SHOP. *AK
I HAVE OWNED 1989 AND 1992 TAURUS'S AND THEY HAVE BOTH EXPERIENCED HEAD GASKET FAILURES. THIS APPEARS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM OF THE 3.8L V6 ENGINE. *AK
CONSUMER WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND WITHOUT ANY INDICATION TRANSMISSION JUST WENT OUT. CONSUMER WAS PUSHING THE GAS PEDAL, AND THE MOTOR WOULD MAKE NOISE. BUT THE GEARS WERE STUCK. *AK
WHILE DRIVING 20 MPH VEHICLE HAD A FRONTAL IMPACT AND THE DEFECTIVE AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY, WHICH DID NOT PROTECT THE OCCUPANT IN THE CRASH. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER INFORMATION. *AK
WHILE DRIVING ON A LOCAL STREET CAR, COMING IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION,MADE A LEFT HAND TURN IN FRONT OF CONSUMER'S VEHICLE. OTHER DRIVER MISJUDGED HIS TURN, AND RAN INTO CONSUMER'S VEHICLE ON FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE CORNER. UPON IMPACT, AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. *AK

VEHICLE EXPERIENCING PROBLEM WITH OIL LEAKAGES. DEALER NOTIFIED, AND INFORMED CONSUMER OF A BLOWN HEAD GASKET. REPAIRS MADE AT CONSUMER'S COST. *AK
DRIVER SIDE FRONT COIL SPRING BROKE WHILE BACKING OUT OF A PARKING SPACE. THE UPPER SECTION OF THE COIL SPRING DROPPED BELOW THE LOWER SPRING SEAT ASSEMBLY AND FELL TO THE BAR OF THE STRUT MOUNT. THIS CAUSED THE SPRING SECTION TO CONTACT THE BACK SIDE OF THE TIRE AND THE BRAKE LINE, RESULTING IN A POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS CONDITION. *AK *ML
COMBUSTION CHAMBER LEAK IN #4 CYLINDER. COOLANT IN #4 CYLLINDER AND CRANKCASE. REPAIR COST QUOTED $1200. IF ENGINE NEEDS TO BE REPAIRED/REPLACED $4586.
#4 CYLINDER COMBUSTION CHAMBER COOLANT LEAK. DIAGNOSED AS CYLINDER HEAD GASKET FAILURE AS COVERED IN 3-3-98 TECHNICAL SERVCICE BULLETIN 98-4-9 WITH ACTIN TOBE INSTALLATION OF REVISED HEAD GAKETAND BOLTS WHICH PROVIEIMPROVED SEALING CAPACITY AND HIGHER CLAMPING FORCE BETWEEN CYLINDER HEAD AND BLOCK ON L988-95 TAURUS WITHINSTALLATION OF F5PZ. *AK
ENGINE BLEW THE HEAD GASKET, CAUSING CAR TO OVERHEAT. VEHICLE ISN'T WORKING. DEALERSHIP TOLD CONSUMER IT WOULD COST HIM $4,000 TO REPAIR. *AK
ABS WILL APPLY BY THEMSELVES. BRAKE PEDAL WILL HAVE FULL HYDRAULIC PRESSURE WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IN BRAKING MOTION. PUSHING REAL HARD WILL RELEASE THE PRESSURE. PROBLEM IS INTERMITTENT. DEALER HAS TRIED TO FIND THE PROBLEM, BUT CAN'T REMDY ONE.*AK
