CONSUMER EXPERIENCED HEAD HASKET FAILURE ALONG WITH EXTENSIVE AND SEVERE COLLATERAL ENGINE DAMAGE, SINCE THE REBUILDING OF THE ENGINE, CONSUMER HAS REPEATEDLY EXPERIENCED ENGINE STALLING AND OVERHEATING, WHERE THE POWER STEERING, POWER BRAKES WOULD JUST SHUT DOWN, VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN THE SAME SINCE THE HEAD GASKET FAILURE, DEALER REFUSED TO ASSIST CONSUMER WITH COSTLY REPAIRS, CONSUMER BELIEVES THAT FAILURE WAS DUE TO FAULTY DESIGN.*JB

WINDSHIELD WIPERS STOP WORKING AT RANDOM TIMES. FORD CHARGED US TO FIX THE FIRST TIME AND NOW IT HAS FAILED AGAIN. FRIEND OWNS SAME MODEL YEAR AND STYLE AND HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. *AK
HEAD GASKET ON ENGINE FAILING. RADIATOR COOLANT LEAKING INTO CYLINDER. ALSO LEAKING OUT OF TIMING BELT COVER. THIS IS A KNOW PROBLEM WITH A FORD SERVICE BULLETIN FILED WITH NHTSA. FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE HAS DENIED MY VERBAL REQUEST TO REPLACE ENGINE AT FORD'S COST. *AK
VEHICLE WAS OVERHEATING. TOOK VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP, AND THEY TOLD HIM THAT HE NEEDED A NEW HEAD GASKET. ALSO, OIL LIGHT CAME ON AND STAYED ON FOR A LONG PERIOD OF TIME. VEHICLE STARTED TO KNOCK. KNOCKING CONTINUED AFTER PRESSURE SWITCH REPLACED. A USED ENGINE WAS PURCHASED BY OWNER AND DEALER REPLACED ORIGINAL MOTOR WITH IT. *AK *ML
WHEN DRIVING AT 60 MPH OR HIGHER ENGINE CHECK LIGHT KEEPS COMING ON, AND VEHICLE WILL DIE OUT. *AK
WHILE VEHICLE WAS PARKED WITH KEY IN THE IGNITION SWITCH BUT OFF, VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE. ACCORDING TO CONSUMER, FIRE STARTED ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE STEERING COLUMN. THE FRONT OF THE DRIVER'S SEAT BURNED THROUGH THE BACK WINDOW. *AK
POSSIBLE IGNITION SWITCH SHORT CAUSED VEHICLE TO CATCH FIRE WHILE PARKED WITH KEY IN THE IGNITION SWITCH(OFF). NLM
THERE IS A LEAKAGE WITHIN TRANSMISSION. WHEN CONSUMER PUTS VEHICLE INTO DRIVE, THERE IS A VERY LOUD HARD SHIFT WITHIN VEHICLE, AND WHEN PUTTING VEHICLE INTO REVERSE, VEHICLE SHIFTS SLOWLY. *AK
WATER PUMP FAILED. *AK
WHILE DRIVING AT 35 MPH ENGINE WAS JERKING AND VEHICLE ISN'T IDLING. THERE WAS SOME VIRBATION WITHIN THE VEHICLE DUE TO MOTOR MOUNTS MALFUNCTIONING. MOTOR MOUNTS WERE REPLACED FOUR TIMES. *AK
AT ABOUT 75 MPH, ON 3 OCCASIONS, THE TRANSMISSION DOWNSHIFTED 2 GEARS. THE FIRST TIME, THE CAR WAS ON CRUISE CONTROL. THE LAST 2 TIMES, IT HAD BEEN ON CC. TO FIX, HAD TO DRIVE ON ROAD SHOULDER FOR A MILE OR SO, AT VERY LOW SPEED, THEN TRANSMISSION WOULD SHIFT TO "D" AGAIN.
ON 2 SEPARATE TRIPS, TRANSMISSION SUDDENLY, WITHOUT WARNING, DOWNSHIFTED 2 GEARS. TRANSMISSION WOULD NOT SHIFT UP AGAIN, UNTIL CAR WAS STOPPED, ENGINE SHUT DOWN, AND THEN RESTARTED.. *AK

I DID MENTION TO MY SALESPERSON WITHIN 30-DAY WARRANTY MY CONCERNS RE: BRAKES, STEERING OF VEHICLE, ETC. BUT WAS TOLD ALL WAS WELL WITH THE VEHICLE. I'M STILL SKEPTICAL OF BRAKING AND STEERING COLUMN. I HAVE EXTENDED WARRANTIES BUT IF YOU TAKE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY CONSTANTLY SAY NOTHING IS WRONG WITH YOUR VEHICLE BUT YOU FEEL DIFFERENTLY, WHAT IS A PERSON TO DO? I'M NOT AN EXPERT (BEING A WOMAN) BUT I CAN TELL BY ITS PERFORMANCE THAT SOMETHING IS WRONG AND NEEDS AN EXPERT'S OPINION. I FEEL THAT THIS MAY GO ON UNTIL MY EXTENDED WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED AND THEN I'LL BE TOTALLY RESPONSIBLE FINANCIALLY. IS THERE SOME WAY TO GET AROUND THE HASSLES? OR DO I HAVE TO SIT BY AND WAIT? *AK
WHEN STARTING VEHICLE, IT BACK FIRED / IT WILL NOT START AT ALL. AFTER DIAGNOSTICS WAS DONE, ENGINE HEAD GASKET WAS FOUND TO BE BLOWN. ENGINE HEAD GASKET IS BEING REPLACED. *AK
WINDSHIELD WIPERS HAVE FAILED SEVERAL TIME DURING RAIN STORMS, A LOCAL DEALER HAS BEEN CONTACTED, AND SAID HE CANNOT FIND THE CAUSE, THEREFORE CANNOT FIX IT. *AK
DEALER AND FACTORY REFUSED TO REPAIR AT NO COST ALTHOUGH PROBLEM IS COMMON TO THIS VEHICLE. DEFECT IS MENTIONED IN 70+ PREVIOUS ODI COMPLAINTS AND HAS REPORTEDLY BEEN SUBJECT OF RECALLS IN '94 & '95

FORD EXTENDED THE WARRANTY FOR THIS FAILURE FOR SAME MODEL BEGINNING 1994
WINDSHIIELD WIPERS WORK INTERMITTENTLY. THE COME AND THEY WILL GO OUT FOR A MINUTE OR TWO DURING A STORM. DEALER HAS BEEN CONTACTED. *AK
HEAD LIGHT TURN OFF DURING STOP OR DRIVING CONDITION. THE HIGH BEAMS WOULD HAVE TO BE ENGAGED MOMENTARILY TO MAKE THE HEAD LIGHTS STAY ON OR THE STEERING WHEEL HAS TO BE TILTED UP AND DOWN SEVERAL TIMES TO MAKE HEAD LIGHTS STAY ON. AS OF THIS WRITING, THE ONLY WAY THE CAR HEAD LIGHTS STAY ON IS BY DRIVING WITH THE STEERING WHEEL TILTED ALL THE WAY UP, WHICH MAKES FOR FUNNY DRIVING.
CAR STOPS WITHOUT WARNING. ALL POWER LOST. FUEL PUMP REPLACED 3 TIMES, BUT CAR STILL STALLS. NEITHER DEALER OR REPAIR SHOP KNOW WHAT'S WRONG. SEE OTHER SIMILIAR COMPLAINTS TO NHTSA AT END. SERIOUS SAFETY PROBLEM BECAUSE ENGINE FAILURE WITHOUT WARNING CAN LEAD TO ACCIDENTS. HOW MANY HAVE TO HAPPEN AND HOW MANY PROPLE KILLED BEFORE FORD FORCED TO FIND PROBLEM AND RECALL? BROKEN GEARS IN THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. NLM
I HAVE HAD THE COIL SPRING BREAK (LATER RECALLED), HAD A RECALL ON THE MOTOR MOUNTS, AND A RECALL ON THE BODY MOUNTS. TWO COMMENTS: 1) COULD THE FAILURE OF THE FRONT RIGHT COIL SPRING HAVE CAUSED THE FAILURE OF THE STRUT MOUNT? 2) IF EVERY OTHER MOUNT LOCATED ON THIS VEHICLE HAS BEEN RECALLED IT WOULD SEEM TO ME THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE METAL USED AND THEREFORE THE STRUT MOUNTS MAY ALSO HAVE A MANUFACTURING DEFECT.

TRANSMISSION: TAKEN TO AAMCO 8 TO 10 TIMES, TOLD IT NEEDED TO BE REBUILT. IT WAS REBUILT AT LEAST 5 TIMES SINCE THEN. OTHER TIMES THEY REPLACED ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS AND FIXED LEAKS. JUST HAD ANOTHER LEAK FIXED TWO WEEKS AGO AT ROBKE FORD DEALER IN COV., KY. TRANSMISSION STILL JERKS WHEN SHIFTING. REAR NOISE: SOUNDS LIKE COIL SPRING. I HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT DISSAPOINTMENT IN THIS VEHICLE, WILL NEVER BUY A FORD AGAIN!!!! THANK YOU. *AK

PASSENGER'S SIDE REAR BUMPER HAD FALLEN OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT IN AN ACCIDENT OR HAD BEEN HIT. BEEN TO DEALER & WAS INFORMED NOTHING CAN BE DONE. *AK
TRANSMISSION AND MOTOR MOUNTS HAVE SEPARATED DUE CORROSION.NHTSA RECALL 93V-106.002 ESTABLISHED, AND VEHICLE DOES NOT COMPLY. REPAIRWORK DONE AT OWNER'S EXPENSE. PROVIDE FURTHER INFORMATION. *AK
MOTOR MOUNTS BROKE. CONSUMER WAS TOLD BY DEALERSHIP THAT MOTOR MOUNTS WERE BROKEN WHEN SHE TOOK HER VEHICLE IN FOR SERVICE CHECK UP. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY ADDITIONAL INFORMATION/ATTACHMENTS.*AK

RECEIVED RECALL NOTICE 98V323000 IN THE MAIL. NOTIFIED DEALERSHIP. WAS INFORMED BY MECHANIC WILL NOT REPAIR SUBFRAME UNTIL JUNE 22, 1999. OWNER NOT HAPPY WITH THAT SITUATION. THAT'S TAKING TOO LONG TO DO A RECALL. WANTS AN EARLIER DATE. *AK
INTERMITENT WINDSHIELD WIPER SWITCH AND LOW SPEED WIPER POSITION FAILED TO FUNCTION PROPERLY AT VARIOS TIMES. *AK
WHEN I WAS IN MY VEHICLE ON THE CROSS BRONX EXPRESSWAY, IT BEGAN TO RAIN HARD AND I PROCEEDED TO TURN ON MY WINDSHIELD WIPERS ON A HIGHER SPEED, AND MY WIPERS STUCK IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FRONT WINDSHIELD GLASS OF MY CAR. I STARTED BANGING ON THE DASHBOARD OF MY CAR TO GET THEM GOING AGAIN, AND EVENTUALLY THEY DID. BUT ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS THE BANGING HAS NOT WORKED, AND MY FRONT PASSENGER HAS HAD TO LOWER HIS WINDOW AND STICK HIS HAND OUT TO PUSH THE WIPERS TO GET THEM GOING AGAIN. THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS AND HAZARDOUS CONDITION FOR VISIBILITY AND SAFETY OF NOT ONLY MYSELF BUT THAT OF MY PASSENGERS. ON WEDNESDAY, MARCH 24, 1999 I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER TO EXPRESS MY CONCERN ABOUT THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS MALFUNCTIONING, AND THE MECHANIC CONFIRM EDMY CONCERN AND REPLACED THE MOTOR AND WIRING HARNESS TO THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS OF MY CAR. *AK

WHEN ACCELERATING TO MAKE RIGHT/LEFT TURNS, CAN FEEL SOMETHING SHIFTING IN THE ENGINE. HAVETAKEN TO MECHANIC & MOTOR MOUNTS NEEDED REPLACING. VEHICLE NOT UNDER RECALL. THE SERVICE BULLETIN 92M77 HAD EXPIRED. *AK
