VEHICLE MAKES A POPPING NOISE WHEN STEERING MAINLY TO RIGHT. DEALER CHECKED AND FOUND IT WAS FRONT INNER TIE ROD. NO CAUSE DETERMINED, BUT COST IS ON CONSUMER.*AK
VEHICLE HAS STALLED 4 TIMES AT ANY SPEED. DEALER CANNOT FIND CAUSE. *AK
THE HEAD GASKET REPAIR WAS STARTED ON 9/19/2000 AND FINISHED ON 9/26/2000 AT BRIEN MOTORS IN EVERETT. MILEAGE AT REPAIR WAS 95,458. TOTAL BILL WAS FOR $1,538.58 WHICH INCLUDED A FEW MISC. ITEMS SUCH AS A WATER PUMP, ETC. BUT NOT INCLUDING TAX.
PLEASE BE ADVISED THAT I AM EXTREMELY DISSATISFIED WITH MY 1993 FORD TAURUS. IT WAS PURCHASED ON JULY 8, 2000 FROM BRIARWOOD FORD IN ANN ARBOR, MICHIGAN. IT HAD 37,000 MILES ON IT. AFTER OWNING IT FOR ONLY 40 DAYS, THE ENGINE BLEW ON MY WAY TO TENNESSEE. THE REPAIR SHOP CHECKED IT IN WITH ONLY 39,488 MILES ON IT. THEY HAD TO REPLACE THE ENGINE LONGBLOCK FOR A TOTAL OF $5532.27. LET ME GIVE YOU A BRIEF PICTURE OF MY SITUATION. I AM A WIDOW LIVING ON SOCIAL SECURITY AND A SMALL PENSION FROM MY FORMER HUSBAND??S EMPLOYER. I LIVE IN AN APARTMENT THAT IS BASED ON INCOME. I WAS ABLE TO PURCHASE THE CAR FOR $6957.00 WITH THE MONEY I RECEIVED WHEN MY MOTHER-IN-LAW PASSED AWAY. AFTER PAYING FOR THE REPAIRS, THE COST OF THE CAR BECAME $12,492.27. THIS AMOUNT WOULD HAVE PAID FOR A MUCH NEWER CAR, BUT I WAS TRYING TO SAVE SOME MONEY FOR LIVING EXPENSES. I HAVE GLAUCOMA, DIABETES AND OTHER MEDICAL PROBLEMS. DUE TO MY GLAUCOMA, I WILL NOT BE DRIVING MUCH LONGER AND AS IT STANDS I DON??T FEEL SAFE DRIVING THE CAR FOR ANY DISTANCE. I WOULD LOVE TO VISIT FRIENDS WHILE I CAN, BUT I ALSO CANNOT AFFORD TO REPAIR ANYTHING ELSE THAT MIGHT GO WRONG. ALL I AM ASKING FOR IS TO BE REIMBURSED WHAT IT COSTS ME TO REPAIR THE ENGINE. WHEN I CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP FROM WHICH I PURCHASED THE CAR, THEY SAID IF IT HAD HAPPENED IN THE AREA, THEY MIGHT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO HELP. I FEEL THIS IS OUTRAGEOUS. WHY SHOULD I BUY A CAR ONLY TO TRAVEL IN THE AREA OF THE DEALERSHIP. FORD HAS REPAIRED OVER 100 CARS DUE TO ENGINE PROBLEMS AND IN MARCH OF 2000 THEY PROMISED TO COMPENSATE ENGINE CLAIMS ON A CASE BY CASE BASIS. FORD ASSURED THAT CLAIMS WOULD BE MORE THOUGHTFULLY HANDLED. SINCE 1986, FORD TAURUS??S HAVE HAD SEVERAL SERVICE BULLETINS IN REGARDS TO ENGINE PROBLEMS, MULTIPLE SAFETY-RELATED RECALLS, SECRET WARRANTIES AND SERVICE ADJUSTMENTS. I HOPE THIS LETTER GETS TO THE CORRECT PERSON. IF YOU CAN NOT HELP ME, PLEASE TELL ME WHO CAN. TS
THE WIRING/CONNECTOR TO THE HEADLIGHT SWITCH IS DEFECTIVE. THE CONNECTOR TO THE HEADLIGHT CIRCUIT HEATS UP AND CAUSES THE CONNECTOR AT THE HEADLIGHT SWITCH TO DEFORM. THIS CAUSES MORE RESISTANCE IN THE HEADLIGHT SWICH TO HARNESS CONNECTOR WHICH EVANTULLY CAUSES ENOUGH HEAT TO CAUSE THE HEADLIGHT CIRCUITBRAKER IN THE HEADLIGHT SWITCH TO BREAK THE CIRCUIT. THIS CAUSES THE HEADLIGHTS TO GO OUT, IN AUTOLAMP OPTIONED CARS THIS CAUSES ALL DASH AND ALL EXTERIOR LIGHTING FRONT AND REAR TO FAIL WITHOUT WARNING. I AM AN ASE CERTIFIED MASTER AUTO TECHNITION. I HAVE SEEN MORE THAN TEN FAILURES OF THEIS TYPE IN 89 TO 95 TAURII. FORD INCLUDES A REPLACEMENT WIRE CONNECTOR IN THE HEADLIGHT REPLACEMENT PART. THEY KNOW THERE IS A PROBLEM!!!! MY PERSANAL EXPERIENCE NEARLY CAUSED AN OFFROAD EXCURSION DOWN A STEEP SLOPE INTO LEXINGTON RESERVOUR.
ITS HARD TO BELIEVE THAT ALL THIS FAILED AT ONCE BUT IT DID. I JUST STARTED MY CAR TO GO SOMEWHERE AND ALL THIS HAPPENED YET A FEW HOURS EARLIER IT WAS FINE.I ASKED THE GENTLEMAN AT NAPA AUTO STORE ABOUT THIS AND HE COMMENTED THAT HE GETS AT LEAST ONE PERSON A WEEK GETTING HEAD GASGETS FOR THIS ENGINE SIZE (3.8). I FOUND THIS RATHER SURPRISING AND UPSETTING.

ON A HOT (95 DEGREE +) DAY THE IGNITION SHUT DOWN WHILE I WAS DRIVE HOME IN A RESIDENTIAL AREA. AFTER GETTING MY CAR HOME THE FUEL SYSTEM WAS CHECKED OK. WHEN THE DAYS HEAT SUBSIDED THE CAR WOULD START AGAIN AND HAS BEEN FINE IN THE COOLER DAYS SINCE THE INCIDENT.*AK
I PURCHASED A 1993 FORD TAURUS WITH 37,746 MILES ON IT ON JULY 8, 2000 FOR $6957. ON AUG. 18, 2000 AS I WAS DRIVING ON I-75 THE ENGINE MADE A NOISE AND STARTED SMOKING. I PULLED OFF THE FREEWAY TO A FORD DEALER THAT WAS RIGHT OFF THE EXIT. IT TOOK OVER 5 WEEKS TO REPLACE THE ENGINE. THE COST WAS $5532.27. THE DEALER WHERE I BOUGHT IT SAID IF IT HAD HAPPENED NEAR THEM THEY MIGHT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO LOWER THE COST A LITTLE BIT BUT OTHERWISE TOO BAD. I WOULD LIKE THEM TO HELP WITH THE COST OF THE REPAIR AS $12,489 FOR A 7 YEAR OLD CAR IS RIDICULOUS AND I ONLY HAD IT FOR 40 DAYS. FOR THAT AMOUNT OF MONEY I COULD HAVE PURCHASED A MUCH NEWER VEHICLE. I AM A SENIOR WIDOW ON SOCIAL SECURITY AND CAN NOT AFFORD THIS. I HAVE CONTACTED FORD MOTOR COMPANY, BRIARWOOD FORD, BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU, CONSUMER AFFAIRS. I WOULD LIKE SOMETHING DONE ABOUT THIS. I SAW ALL THE CONSUMER COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE SAME PROBLEM. I RECENTLY HAD NEW ROTORS AND PADS INSTALLED ON THE FRONT AND REAR OF MY 93 FORD TAURUS. SINCE THE REPAIR THE REAR DRIVERS SIDE BRAKE INTERMITTENTLY STICKS OR FAILS TO RELEASE. I BROUGHT THE CAR BACK AND A NEW BRAND OF ROTOR AND PADS WERE INSTALLED. A WEEK LATER THE BRAKE STUCK AGAIN ONLY THIS TIME IT CAUGHT ON FIRE. AFTER EXTINGUISHING THE FIRE THE REPAIR SHOP REPLACED THE PADS, ROTOR, CALIPER AND LOAD SENSOR SWITCH ("EVERTHING MECHANICAL THAT COULD CAUSE A PROBLEM"). THE FOURTH TIME THE PROBLEM OCCURED, THEY REPLACED THE BRAKE FLUID. THE FIFTH TIME, I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY COULDN'T FIND A PROBLEM. THE SIXTH TIME IT HAPPENED (RIM SO HOT THE PLASTIC HUB CAP MELTED, BUT AT LEAST NO FIRE!) THE DEALER SAID EVERYTHING IN THE ABS SYSTEM NEEDED REPLACING (3 COMPONENTS THAT COST $1600), AS WELL AS THE PADS, ROTOR, CALIPER, WHEEL BEARINGS FOR A TOTAL REPAIR COST OF $2000-3000. I NEVER HAD ANY PROBLEMS WITH THE ABS SYSTEM BEFORE THE FIRST REPAIR WAS DONE, AND IT HAS 80,000 MILES.
VEHICLE IS EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEMS OF RECALL 8509. CIRCUIT BREAKER OPENING HAS MELTED INSIDE THE DASHBOARD. PLEASE FILL IN MORE INFORMATION. *AK

CONSUMER WAS TRAVELING ABOUT 65MPH ON THE HIGHWAY AND HEARD A NOISE. SHE WAS LOOKING THROUGH REARVIEW MIRRIOR, AND SAW THAT TIRE TREAD FLEW OFF. TIRE WAS STILL INFLATED, TIRE WAS A UTURA LTE# P205/65K15 BW9254608B70K. *AK
WHEN THROTTLE LOCKED OPEN I JUMPED A CURB WITH MY FOOT APPLIED TO BRAKE AND CUTTING OFF IGNITION I GOT STOPPED ABOUT 3 FEET FROM A BUILDING
WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH CONSUMER SAW SMOKE COMING THROUGH THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. CONSUMER WAS ABLE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, AND DROVE IT TO A BODY SHOP FOR INSPECTION. MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT HEAD GASKET NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND REPLACED IT. THREE YEARS LATER WHILE DRIVING CONSUMER HEARD A LOUD NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. CONSUMER WAS ABLE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, AND DROVE IT TO A BODY SHOP FOR INSPECTION. MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED DUE TO A HEAD GASKET BLOW OUT. *AK
WHILE DRIVING HEARD A NOISE THAT SOUNDED LIKE A MOTOR MOUNT, TOOK TO DEALER AND THEY REPLACED THE MOUNTS, CONSUMER HAD TO TAKE VEHICLE BACK WITHIN THE SAME YEAR, THIS TIME MECHANIC SAID SUBFRAME WAS CRACKED. *AK
CONSUMER WAS DRIVING AND WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING VEHICLE OVERHEATED SEVERLY, AND SHE HEARD A TAPPING NOISE. TANK WAS BOILING AND VERY HOT. SHE TURNED VEHICLE OFF TO LET IT COOL OFF. THEN, WHEN SHE TURNED VEHICLE BACK ON AND CONTINUED TO DRIVE, SHE HAD BLOWN HEAD GASKET. *AK

HEAD GASKETS ON THE 3.8L V-6 IS A COMMON PROBLEM WHILE FORD WILL ONLY COVER CERTAIN VIN S DEALER ORIGINALLY TOLD ME IT WAS COVERED UNDER RECALL THEY SUBSEQUENTLY CHANGED THEIR POSITION. I UNDERSTAND ALL SUCH MOTORS WERE BUILT WITH DEFECTIVE HEAD GASKETS(TOO THIN) BUT THEY ONLY COVER SOME UNDER RECALL- MINE EXCLUDED. COMPLETE TRANSMISSION FAILURE WAS DUE TO FAILED LUBE TUBE. ENGINE COOLANT LEAK WAS FROM THE TIMING COVER. RIGHT FRONT SPRING IN THE SUSPENSION IS BROKEN. *AK
HEAD GASKET IS NOT WORKING. WITHOUT WARNING THE TEMPERATURES STARTED JUMPING FROM HOT TO COLD. THERMOSTATE WAS REPAIRED WHICH CONTROLED THEMPERATURE BUT THEN SMOKE STARTED COMING OUT. CAR HAS NOW COMPLETELY SHUTDOWN.*AK
THE HEAD GASKET ON MY 93 TAURUS FAILED CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO OVERHEAT. WHEN I BROUGHT THE CAR TO MY MECHANIC HE TOLD ME THAT FORD WOULD FIX THE PROBLEM FREE OF CHARGE BECAUSE A TECHNICAL SERIVCE BULLETIN WAS ISSUED FOR A DEFECT IN THE HEAD GASKETS. I CONTACTED FORD AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THERE WAS NO "PROGRAM" RIGHT NOW TO FIX THE 93 TAURUS. SINCE I NEED MY CAR TO GET BACK AND FORTH FROM WORK I WENT AHEAD AND HAD MY MECHANIC FIX THE PROBLEM. THIS COST ME ABOUT $1300.00. IN MY OPINION THAT I SHOULD BE REIMBURSED BY FORD BECAUSE THEY HAVE AKNOWLEDGED A DEFECT WITH THE HEAD GASKETS BUT FOR SOME UNKNOWN REASON THEY DO NOT HAVE A "PROGRAM" TO FIX THE 1993 MODEL YEAR. *AK

ENGINE RAN ROUGH, REPLACED SPARK PLUGS AND FOUND NUMBER 4 CYCLINDER SPARK PLUG OLIVE GREEN FROM ANTI-FREEZE. NEVER COULD KEEP THE COOLANT RECOVERY TANK FULL OF COOLANT FROM 13,000 MILES ON UP. NOTHING COULD BE FOUND WITH THIS PROBLEM WHEN THE CAR WAS UNDER ORIGINAL WARRANTY. ENGINE WAS REPLACED IN 2/1995 @ 35,000 MILES. COOLANT PROBLEM AND HIGH ENGINE TEMP STILL EXISTS. 43,000 MILES LATER HEAD GASKET PROBLEMS. ENGINE WAS MANUFACTURED IN 1994 BUT DEALER WILL NOT WARRANTY THE PROBLEM BECAUSE IT IS IN A 1993 CAR. *AK

I WAS TOLD BY STATE FARM INSURANCE THAT THE MOTOR MOUNTS ON FORD VEHICLES ARE NOTORIOUS FOR FAILING.
WE EXPERIENCED NUMEROUS RECALLS FOR SAFETY ISSUES, ALL OF WHICH WE HAD CHECKED AT LAIRD NOLLER. THE CAR EXPERIENCED SEVERAL OTHER REPAIRS (AIRCONDITIONER) EARLY IN ITS MILEAGE. AT 78,000 THE TRANSMISSION WENT OUT COMPLETELY AND TOTALLY, LEAVING OUR DAUGHTER (AGE 20) STRANDED 110 MILES FROM HOME ON I-70. WE HAD THE TRANSMISSION REPLACED AT GREEN FORD IN ABILENE, KS. COSTING US ABOUT $1900.TEN MONTHS LATER THE HEAD GASKET BLEW, LEAVING MY HUSBAND STRANDED ON I-70. WE HAD THAT REPLACED FOR $900.
DURING HOT DAYS THIS SUMMER AND WHEN THE VEHICLE HAS WARMED UP, THE ENGINE SHUTS OFF, IT HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES AT STOPLIGHTS OR STOP SIGNS, THREE TIMES WHILE DRIVING AT 50 60 MPH. ALSO THE CAR WILL NOT START FOR SEVERAL MINUTES AFTER THE EVENT. ON OCCASIONS IT WILL NOT IMMEDIATELY START AFTER LONG DRIVES WITHIN AN 1/2 HOUR OF PARKING IT. THESE EVENTS JUST STARTED AFTER THE CAR REACHED 100,000 MILES. I HAD A TUNEUP AND INFORMED DEALER OF THE ISSUES -NO PROBLEMS FOUND.
WHILE DRIVING AT 35 MPH ENGINE CHECK LIGHT CAME ON, ENGINE STARTED SMOKING, AND THEN CAR STALLED. *AK
HEAD GASKETS FAILED AT 84,000 MILES ON MY 93 FORD TAURUS LX. SIMILAR PROBLEMS HAVE OCCURED ON FORD VEHICLES WITH THE SAME ENGINE (3.8L V-6). I CONTACTED A FORD REP., ONLY FOR THEM TO TELL ME I WASN'T ONE OF THE LUCKY PEOPLE TO PURCHASE A CAR THAT WAS MADE BETWEEN TWO CERTAIN DATES AT A CERTAIN MANUFACTURING PLANT. SO BASICALLY, I'M OUT OF LUCK AND AT FORD'S MERCY, AND MAYBE WITH SOME GOOD LUCK, BUT WITH NO GAURANTEES, THIS PROBLEM MIGHT BE RECALLED OR HAVE AN EXTENDED WARRANTY. I WILL NEVER BUY A FORD AGAIN, BECAUSE THEY SON'T STAND BEHIND THEIR PRODUCT EVEN WITH A WELL DOCUMENTED DESIGN FLAW. *AK
CAR WAS BOUGHT FROM ORIGINAL OWNER. THE CONDITION WAS EXCELLENT, ONLY 69,000 MILES ON ENGINE. IT STARTED TO FALL APART WITHIN 3 WEEKS, FIRST STEERING, THEN TRANSMISSION, NOW THE ENGINE. ACCORDING TO LEMONAIDCARS.COM THE 1993 TAURUS IS FULL OF PROBLEMS. FORD SAID ITS NOT THERE PROBLEM AND REF'D TO GREEN VALLEY FORD THIS DEALERSHIP WE DO NOT TRUST. THEY ALWAYS ADD ON THINGS TO A CARS 'PROBLEM'. WE ARE NOT BUYIN A FORD EVER AGAIN! *AK
VEHICLE KEEPS STALLING WHEN TRYING TO START UP. CAR RUMBLES WHEN IT FINALLY DOES START. MAKES A LOUD CLUNKING NOISE WHEN SHIFTING GEARS. AFTER I START UP AFTER A STOP SIGN OR STOP LIGHT, I BARELY TOUCH THE GAS AND ITS OFF IN A FLASH. WHEN I AM ON THE FREEWAY AND TAKE MY FOOT OFF THE ACCELARATOR, IT CONTINUES AT THE SAME SPEED FOR 5 MINUTES. I CHECKED THE CRUISE CONTROL AND IT WAS OFF. THE ENGINE SOUNDS LIKE A DIESEL ENGINE EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE.*AK
RAPID ENGINE TEMPURATURE FLUCTUATIONS, LOSS OF COOLANT, WHITE SMOKE FROM EXHAUST. PROBLEM WAS HEAD GASKETS, ESPECIALLY #3 & #4 HEAD. IS SAME PROBLEM WITH OTHER 3.8 ENGINES, BUT MANUFACTURER WILL ONLY COVER '94 & '95 MODEL YEARS. LICENSED MECHANIC REPORTS PROBLEM IS CONSISTENT WITH '90 AND UP 3.8 TAURUS ENGINES. DEALER IS REFUSING TO ASSIST WITH REPAIR BILL BECAUSE MANUFACTURER DOES NOT LIST '93 UNDER RECALL. *AK
DEFECTIVE BRAKE LINE RUSTED THROUGH, CAUSING BRAKING FLUID TO LEAK, AND RESULTING IN NO BRAKING ABILITY WHICH MAY CAUSE A CRASH. ALSO, COULD NOT SHUT VEHICLE OFF WHILE IN USE, HAD TO PULL THE FUSE IN ORDER TO SHUT VEHICLE OFF. DUE FAILURE OF IGNITION SWITCH. SWITCH REPAIRED. ALSO, ENGINE OIL PAN RUSTED THROUGH AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. *AK *ML

VEHICLE STALLS AT ANY SPEED, HAS HAPPENED AT LEAST 20 TIMES. *AK
MY 1993 TAURUS STARTED STALLING OUT IN JUNE 2000 CAUSIN ME TO LOSE THE POWER STEERING AND BRAKES WHILE DRIVING. IT FIRST STARTED WITH THE "CHECK ENGINE LIGHT" COMING ON AND THEN CUTTING OFF ON THE HIGHWAY AT 55MPH. IT CUTS OFF WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED/ANYTIME ON CITY STREETS, HIGHWAYS AND AT STOP SIGNS. IT WON'T START FOR ABOUT 10 MINUTES AFTER IT STALLS OUT. I HAVE EVEN CHANGED FUEL AT DIFFERENT GAS STATIONS THINKING IT WAS WATER OR TRASH IN THE LINE BUT THE PROBEM DIDN'T GO AWAY. I HAVE HAD FUEL PRESSURE TESSTS, THROTTLE BODY WORK, FUEL INJECTION SERVICE DONE SEVERAL TIMES AND THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTS. BEEN TO OTHER MECHANIC SHOPS AND DIAGNOSTIC TEST RUN AND WAS TOLD IT WAS THE FUEL PUMP OR THE TRANSMISSION OR NO PROBLEM FOUND. ONE OF THE MECHANCIS TOLD ME IT SOUNDED LIKE IT WAS THE IGNITION MODULE AND SUGGESTED I TAKE IT TO A DEALER. IN AUGUST 2001, I TOOK IT TO A DEALER AND HAD THE FUEL INJECTION SERVICE DONE, VALVES REPLACED AND WAS TOLD THAT WOULD CORRECT THE PROBLEM BUT IT DIDN'T. THE CAR WAS SLUGGISH WHEN I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND IT IS STILL SLUGGISH ESPECIALLY WHEN TRYING TO EXCELERATE. AUGUST 2001 HAD A NEW FUEL PUMP PUT ON AND 2 DAYS AFTER THAT THE CAR STALLED OUT AGAIN. SINCE THE NEW FUEL PUMP HAS BEEN IN PLACE THE CAR HAS STALLED 5 TIMES IN TRAFFIC. I AM VERY FRUSTRATED AT HAVING TO PAY FOR UNNECESSARY REPAIRS AND THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTS. THERE HAVE BEEN SOME CLOSE CALLS FOR A TERRIBLE ACCIDENT. PLEASE HAVE THIS VEHICLE RECALLED BEFORE A FATALITY OCCURS. I DON'T FEEL SAFE IN MY OWN CAR AS LONG AS THIS PROBLEM EXISTS.
TRANSMISSION FAILURE AND SLIPPAGE MAKE DRIVING THE CAR ON A HIGHWAY UNPREDICTABLE AND DANGEROUS, WHILE SPEEDING UP ON AN ON-RAMP TO A HIGHWAY, I WAS ALMOST HIT BY A TRACTOR TRAILOR BECAUSE MY CAR COULD NOT SHIFT GEARS CORRECTLY. *AK
