A GRINDING NOISE COMING FROM REAR WHEELS DUE TO WORN OUT BRAKE PADS. DEALERSHIP IS AWARE OF PROBLEM.*AK
I OWN A 95 FORD TAURUS WITH A SPEEDOMETER THAT BOUNCES WILDLY ABOVE 50 MPH. I HAVE DONE SOME RESEARCH AND FOUND THIS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM. I CAME ACROSS A FORD TSB 99-7-9 THAT HAS REPLACEMENT PART, WHEN I CALLED I WAS TOLD THE PART WOULD COST OVER $500.00. I CONTACTED FORD CUSTOMER RELATIONS AND WAS TOLD THE VEHICLE WAS TOO OLD AND THAT THEY WOULD NOT REPAIR THIS. MY VEHICLE HAS 59,000 MILES ON IT AND IT IS IN SAME CONDITION AS WHEN I BOUGHT IT NEW. I FEEL THAT THIS CONSTITUTES SAFETY HAZARD NOT KNOWING WHAT SPEED THE VEHICLE IS TRAVELING. I THINK THAT IF YOU INVESTIGATE THIS, YOU WILL FIND THAT IT IS A VERY COMMON COMPLAINT. THAT IS WHY I AM MAKING RECORD OF THIS. *JB
HEAD GASKETS BLEWOUT WHILE DRIVING. ALSO, VEHICLE STARTED SMOKING WITH COOLANT AND OIL COMING FROM UNDERNEATH VEHICLE. CONTACTED DEALER, AND HAD TO REPLACE ENGINE. *AK THE MOTOR MOUNT CRACKED AND RUINED THE A/C. INTAKE WAS LEAKING COOLANT. RADIATOR WAS REPLACED. THE ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON INTERMITTANTLY DUE TO SENSOR FAILURE. BRAKES MAKE NOISE. *YH
AIRBAG LIGHT IS FLASHING. VEHICLE NOT TAKEN TO DEALER YET. *AK *YH
THE VEHICLE STALLED IN HEAVY TRAFFIC WHICH RESULTED IN WHITE SMOKE BLOWING OUT. *MR THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE HEAD GASKET HAD BLOWN, WHICH WAS A RESULT OF THE FAN BEARING PROBLEM WHICH WAS LATER ADDRESSED BY A RECALL. THE CONSUMER REQUESTED REIMBURSEMENT. AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS WORKED ON FOR THE RECALL, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO OVERHEAT. THE DEALER COMPLETELY FLUSHED AND ALL THE LIQUIDS TO TRY AND REMEDY THE COOLING SYSTEM PROBLEM. (RECALL 397V019000) *SCC *NLM
CONSUMER RECEIVED RECALL 98V323000 CONCERNING SUB FRAME CORROSION. BOTH REAR CORNERS OF THE SUB FRAME DROPPED WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH. DEALER WAS NOTIFIED. DEALER INFORMED THE CONSUMER THAT RECALL REPAIRS WERE DONE, AND NOTHING ELSE WILL BE DONE AT THIS TIME. *AK
CONSUMER BROUGHT VEHICLE IN FOR SERVICE BECAUSE OF A GRINDING NOISE HEARD IN THE LEFT WHEEL WHEN TURNING AT A LOW SPEED. THE CAUSE WAS DETERMINED TO BE THE RACK STICKING AND THE STRUT BEARINGS NOISY. THE RACK AND PINION, THE LEFT AND RIGHT ASSIST VALVE AND THE FRONT STRUT BEARING WERE REPLACED. THE NOISE IS NOT AS LOUD BUT CONTINUES.(CONSUMER NO LONGER OWNES VEHICLE).( *JG
ENGINE STALLS WHILE DRIVING. DEALER HAS YET TO BE CONTACTED. *AK CONSUMER TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER, INSPECTION MECHANIC STATED THAT THE COMPUTER CHIP FAILED. TRANSMISSION MALFUNCTIONED AND WAS REPLACED ON THREE OCCASIONS, CONSUMER STATES THAT WHEN THE TRANMSISSION WENT OUT AFTER PLACING IN PARK, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT STOP AND THE EMERGENCY BRAKE HAD TO BE USED TO KEEP FROM HAVING AN ACCIDENT. *JB

CONSUMER WAS TRAVELING ABOUT 25MPH ON A SIDE STREET AND RIGHT HAND SIDE THAT HOLDS ENGINE MOUNTS AND SUPPORTS FELL OUT IN THE ROAD. DEALERSHIP IS AWARE OF PROBLEM.*AK

CONSUMER FOUND A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN ON WEBSITE, AND CALLED DEALER ABOUT BULLETIN DATES OF BULLETIN 3/98, SERVICE BULLETIN#9849, SB601270. CONSUMER STATED BULLETIN WAS ABOUT HEAD GASKETS. ALSO, CONSUMER HAD A BLOWN HEAD GASKET. FORD EXECUTIVE CUSTOMER SERVICE LINE STATED THIS WAS NOT A RECALL, IT WAS JUST AN OWNER'S NOTIFICATION PROGRAM. DEALER CAN'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN BECAUSE CONSUMER WAS OVER 100000 MILES, BUT UNDER 7 YEARS. *AK
VEHICLE WAS GOING APPROXIMATELY 40MPH AND STALLED. OVER THE PAST 3 YEARS, EVERY SUMMER, VEHICLE HAS THE SAME PROBLEM. PROBLEM STARTED AT 30,000 MILES. NO RECALL OR REPLACEMENT PARTS HAVE BEEN ISSUED FOR THE DEALER TO ASSIST .*AK
RECALL 01 V 390 000/ENGINE COOLING FAN: VEHICLE EXPEREINCED AN ENGINE COMPARTMENT FIRE WHILE DRIVING, LOCAL FIRE DEPARTMENT ARRIVED TO EXTINGUISH FIRE. DEALER / MANUFACTURER WERE NOT NOTIFIED AT THAT TIME. CONSUMER BELIEVED THAT ABOVE RECALL WAS THE CAUSE OF FIRE. FEEL FREE TO PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION CONCERNING THIS MATTER.*AK
THE CONSUMER STATED WHILE AT A STOP, SUDDENLY WHITE SMOKE EMITTED FROM THE VEHICLE. THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A MECHANIC WHO STATED 2 GASKETS HAD BLOWN. *AK THE BLOWN HEAD GASKETS WERE THE RESULT OF A FAILED FAN BEARING. THE CONSUMER FELT SINCE THE FAILURE WAS THE RESULT THE FAN BEARING, SHE SHOULD BE REIMBURSED ALL HER MONIES. VEHICLE BEGAN TO OVER HEAT AFTER THE RECALL WORK WAS PERFORMED. TO KEEP FROM OVER HEATING, THE COOLING SYSTEM WAS FLUSHED AND ALL LIQUIDS WERE REPLACED. *PH *JB
VEHICLE STOPPED ACCELERATING WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY ON A HOT DAY. THE DRIVER WAS FORCED TO PULL OVER TO THE SHOULDER. THERE WERE NO INJURIES OR FATALITIES. *AK AFTER 15 MINUTES THE VEHICLE COULD BE RESTARTED AND WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER DIDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. CONSUMER PURCHASED ANOTHER VEHICLE AND USED THE TAURUS FOR LOCAL USE. ON ANOTHER OCCASION WHEN THE CONSUMER ACCELERATED THE VEHICLE LUNGED FORWARD WHILE IN A PARKING GARAGE. *PH *NLM
FORD WILL NOT DO ANYTHING TO ELEVIATE THIS SITUATION ASIDE FROM CHARGING ANOTHER $700 FOR THE THIRD SPEEDOMETER*AK!
THIS VEHICLE HAS LIMITED USE. IT'S PRIMARY PURPOSE IS TO TRANSPORT MY WIFE WHO IS IN A WHEELCHAIR. FAILURE OF A MOTOR MOUNT AT THIS AGE AND MILEAGE IS PECULIAR. ALSO, WHEN I TOOK THE CAR TO MY MECHANIC TO REPLACE THE PART, HE FOUND THEY WERE ON BACK ORDER BEVAUSE OF HIGH DEMAND.*AK
ENGINE STALLED & POWER BRAKES AND STEERING SHUT DOWN AT 75 MILES PER HOUR. OCCURRED ON INTERSTATE 40, HALF WAY BETWEEN NEEDLES & BARSTOW. OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE WAS APPROXIMATELY 103 DEGREES. LUCKY TO GAIN ACCESS TO RIGHT SHOULDER OF HIGHWAY BEFORE BEING REAR ENDED BY OTHER TRAFFIC.
CONSUMER WAS TRAVELING ABOUT 65MPH ON HIGHWAY AND WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING STOPPED ABRUPTLY AND TRANSMISSION WENT INTO INTO A NEUTRAL MODE. DEALERSHIP WAS AWARE OF PROBLEM.*AK
IN HOT WEATHER VEHICLE WILL STALL WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING, AND VEHICLE WILLNOT RESTART. IT TAKES A COOLING OFF PERIOD. DEALERSHIP IS AWARE OF PROBLEM. *AK
HEADLIGHTS ARE FOGGED, CAUSING BAD LIGHTING. INDEPENDENT MECHANIC STATED PROBLEM WAS THE LENS.*AK THE CONSUMER STATED HE HAD TO USE HIGH BEAMS TO SEE ANYTHING AT NIGHT. *YH
AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION DOES CHANGE GEARS CORRECTELY. ALSO, WHEN VEHICLE IS GOING FROM AN IDLING POSITION TO A FORWARD POSITION IT HESITATES ALTHOUGH GAS PEDAL IS BEING DEPRESSED. CONSUMER HAS REPLACED ENTIRE TRANSMISSION, AS WELL AS ENGINE. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER DETAILS.*AK
AFTER CONSUMER CAME HOME HE NOTICED FRONT OF VEHICLE WAS KIND OF LOW. WHEN CHECKED, FRONT COIL SPRINGS BROKE BECAUSE IT WAS COATED WITH PLASTIC. PLASTIC WAS NO LONGER THERE, AND COIL SPRINGS WERE RUSTED.*AK CONSUMER STATES REAR COIL SPRINGS WERE REPLACED ALSO, PLASTIC COVER BROKEN AND RUSTED, FRONT SHOCKS WERE REPLACED DUE TO FAILURE OF COIL SPRINGS.*JB
VEHICLE WOULD INTERMITTENTLY LURCH FORWARD OR BACKWARD WHILE PARKING WITH FOOT ON BRAKE PEDAL OR WHILE DRIVING AT A LOW SPEED WITH FOOT ON BRAKE PEDAL. DEALER WAS NOTIFIED. PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION.*AK
ENGINE OVER HEATED AND BURN OUT. THERE IS RECALL 97-V-019-000 THAT ALSO CAN CAUSE THE PROBLEM, BUT THE VEHICLE IS NOT INCLUDED IN RECALL.*AK
CONSUMER WAS TRAVELING ABOUT 60MPH ON SIDE STREETAND GAS PEDAL GOT STUCK WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING. GAS PEDAL WAS ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE FLOOR. SHE HAD CONTROL OF VEHICLE AND HIT GUARDRAIL. CONSUMER THOUGHT IT WAS CRUISE CONTROL. VEHICLE WAS TOTALED. DEALERSHIP IS AWARE OF PROBLEM.*AK
THE CONSUMERS VEHICLE EXPERIENCED SYMPTOMS OF RECALL 98M01. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO DID A COMPRESSION TEST AND STATED THAT ALL CYLINDERS WERE OK. A FEW YEARS AND MANY ENGINE PROBLEMS LATER, THE VEHICLE WOULD FREQUENTLY HESITATE, MISFIRE AND OVERHEAT. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE HEAD GASKETS WERE LEAKING. THE CONSUMER REQUESTED REIMBURSEMENT FOR HEAD GASKET REPAIRS. (RECALL NUMBER 97V019000). *MR *SCC *NLM
7 ON 6-11-2001, WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, A SMALL TAPPING NOISE WAS HEARD ABOUT A 140 MILES INTO MY TRIP, WHICH SOUNDED AS IF IT WAS COMING FROM THE DASHBOARD. THE TAPPING NOISE PROGRESSED TO A LOUD CLANKING COMING FROM THE MOTOR. {NOTE: THE OIL INDICATOR LIGHT NEVER CAME ON}. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO A FORD DEALERSHIP FOR AN ENGINE DIAGNOSIS. BECAUSE THE OIL INDICATOR STICK WAS FULL AND THERE WAS ADEQUATE COOLANT, THE DEALERSHIP DETERMINED THAT THE ENGINE FAILURE WAS NOT THE RESULT OF A HEAD GASKET FAILURE, BUT POSSIBLY DUE TO A "CONNECTING ROD BEARING" FAILURE. RECOMMENDATION: "NEEDS NEW ENGINE". MILEAGE: 70,903; 7 ON 3-26-99 THE SPEEDOMETER HEAD BROKE. MILEAGE: 40,551. NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. ESTIMATED COST TO REPAIR BY THE FORD DEALERSHIP: $700; 7 ON 6-29-2000, TRANSMISSION SLIPPING, BROUGHT TO FORD DEALERSHIP- ESTIMATED DIAGNOSIS: "PROBABLY INTERNAL". MILEAGE: 57,850. DIAGNOSIS COST: $70.68 ESTIMATED COST OF TRANSMISSION WORK BY THE DEALERSHIP: $2000
THIS AFTERNOON I WAS IN MY 1995 FORD TAURUS WAGON IN HEAVY HIGHWAY TRAFFIC WHEN THE ACCELERATOR LOCKED AND THE THE CAR SPED DOWN THE HIGHWAY AT DANGEROUS SPEEDS. AFTER DETERMINING THAT THE BRAKES WOULD NOT SLOW THE CAR I WAS ABLE TO SAFELY PULL THE CAR TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AFTER SWITCHING INTO NEUTRAL. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THIS HAS OCCURRED IN THE PAST 12 MONTHS. LAST NOVEMBER WHEN THIS HAPPENED THE FIRST TIME THE REPAIR SHOP DETERMINED THAT THE PROBLEM WAS WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL HOWEVER THEY COULD NOT RECREATE THE PROBLEM.
CONSUMER IS HAVING PROBLEMS WITH HEAD GASKET. GASKET IS LEAKING OIL ONTO ENGINE. HAS NOT CONTACTED DEALER YET.*AK

THE ABS SYSTEM STOPPED WORKING ABOUT A YEAR AGO. THE DEALER WANTS A GREAT DEAL OF MONEY JUST TO CHECK IT OUT.*AK
CONSUMER STATES THAT VEHICLE WILL STALL OUT WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEED OF 75 MPH INTERMITTENTLY. THE DEALER AND THE MANUFACTRER WERE NOTIFIED. *JB THE VEHICLE STILL STALLED. THE CONSUMER HAD TWO ACCIDENTS AS A RESULT OF THE VEHICLE STALLING ON HIGHWAY. CONSUMER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE HAD MANY RECALLS AND NO ONE CAN FIX IT, THERE WAS ONE INJURY. *YH
BASED UPON THE NUMBER OF FAILURES BEING REPORTED, FORD SHOULD HAVE PERFORMED A RECALL AND REPAIRED ALL THESE DEFECTIVE 3.8 LITER ENGINES. I BARELY WENT PAST THE MILEAGE ESTABLISHED BY THE CLASS ACTION SETTLEMENT AND WILL NOT BE ELIGIBLE FOR COMPENSATION. I AM NOT A SATISFIED FORD CUSTOMER!. *AK
THE REAR VIEW MIRROR HAS FALLEN OFF TWICE, ON ONE OCCASION IT FELL OFF WHILE DRIVING, HITTING CONSUMER ON THE SHOULDER. *SLC
VEHICLE JUMPED FROM PARK INTO REVERSE TWICE. DEALER HAS BEEN NOTIFIED.*AK
SPRING PUCTURED TIRE, NO GUARD. BOTH SPRINGS BROKE,ONE SNAPPED.FORD DEALER AND TIRE SHOPS AWARE OF "DEFECTIVE FORD SPRINGS". THIS PROBLEM WILL CAUSE A FATALITY IF FAILURE OCCURS WHILE MOVING. NO GUARDS ARE IN PLACE TO DEFLECT SPRING FROM PUNTURING TIRE. I WAS PARKED WHEN IT BROKE, AND IT PUT A 6 INCH GASH IN THE TOP OF THE TIRE. (RIGHT SPRING BROKE). WHEN EXAMINED, LEFT SPRING WAS BROKEN, BUT HAD NOT SNAPPED YET. FRIENDS HAVE FORDS WITH LESS THAN 50000 MILES WITH BROKEN SPRINGS. REPLACMENTS HARD TO GET BECAUSE OF DEMAND. *AK
TRANSMISSION WOULD NOT SHIFT CORRECTLY. WAS REBUILT - TECHNICIAN SAID IT WAS CRUMBLING. *AK
THE MOTOR MOUNTS CRACKED, WHICH CAUSED THE ENGINE TO PULL OUT OF THE TRANSMISSION.*JB
WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED, GAS PEDAL JUST FELL TO FLOOR. CONSUMER APPLIED BRAKES, NO REACTION, ENGINE KEPT GOING. AT 90 MPH CONSUMER PULLED KEY OUT OF IGNITION TO STOP VEHICLE. VEHICLE AT DEALER, WHO COULD NOT FIND CAUSE. CONSUMER AFRAID TO DRIVE VEHICLE. *AK *JB
THIS FORD TAURUS WAS PURCHASED FROM FATHER-IN-LAW, TOM JOHRE, NOW DECEASED - FROM HIS ESTATE. THE SPEEDOMETER SYSTEM HAD FAILED PRIOR TO PURCHASE. HOW CAN FORD SAY THIS IS NOT A SAFETY ISSUE, WHEN EACH TIME I ATTEMPT TO UTILIZE THE CRUISE CONTROL, THE WAVERING SPEEDOMETER WILL CAUSE THE CRUISE TO SET AT EXCESSIVE SPEEDS? THIS IS NOT A MAINTENANCE ISSUE. WE KNOW OF OTHER TAURUS CAR OWNERS WHO HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM - ONE, DON ACKERMAN OF EDMONTON, HAD TO HAVE HIS SPEEDOMETER CHANGED THREE TIMES WHILE STILL ON WARRANTY. THIS IS NOT A MAINTENANCE ISSUE; IT IS A MATTER OF DEFECTIVE MANUFACTURING, AND WARRANTS A CLASS ACTION SUIT AGAINST FORD.*AK
