THE SPRING ON THE MACPHERSON STRUT BROK AND RUBBED THE SIDEWALL OF A TIRE RESULTING IN A FLAT TIRE, CONSUMER HAD TO PAY FOR ALL REPAIR WORK, HOWEVER LEARNED THAT FORD HAD A PROBLEM WITH SPRING BREAKAGE AND INSTALLED GUARDS AROUND THE SPRING TO ELIMINATE THE PROBLEM OF GOING INTO THE SIDE OF THE TIRE IF THE SPRING SHOULD BREAK. WHILE DRIVING COULD STEP ON THE BRAKES PEDAL AND THE BRAKES WILL GRAB AND MAKE NOISE LIKE GRINDING METAL TO METAL TECHNICIAN SAID THAT BRAKES NEEDED A MASTER CYLINDER,AND CALIPERS NEEDED TO BE DRILLED. *AK CONSUMER STATES THE PROBLEM WAS DETECTED BEFORE PURCHASING VEHICLE AND DEALERSHIP MADE A PROMISE TO FIX ALL PROBLEMS IF CONSUMER PURCHASED THE VEHICLE.*JB
CONSUMER STATED BEFORE BUYING VEHICLE NOTICED THAT AIR BAG LIGHT WAS COMING ON. AFTER BUYING VEHICLE DEALER REFUSED TO FIX IT.*AK CONSUMER STATES MOTOR MOUNT IS BROKEN SO SHIFTING,STARTING, STOPPING OR ANY OTHER MOVEMENT IN THE CAR WOULD LIFT THE ENGINE IN AN UPWARD MOTION, THE FRONT MARKER LIGHT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE, AIR BAG EQUIPMENT MALFUNCTIONED DUE TO THE MODULE SENSOR WAS DEFECTIVE, THE BRAKES NEEDED TO HAVE THE MASTER CYLINDER REPLACED, RADIATOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED, SERPENTINE BELT WAS REPLACED, TIMING GEAR GASKET, HOOD LATCH WAS BROKEN HOOD WOULD NOT STAY DOWN WHILE DRIVING DOWN ROAD, ALSO SECURITY SYSTEM NEEDED TO BE RESET.*JB
THIS CAR HAD A HEADGASKET FAILURE IN APRIL 2000. IT WAS REPAIRED AT BERGLUND FORD IN SALEM VIRGINIA. BERGLUND DETERMINED THE HEADGASKET FAILURE CAUSED ANTIFREEZE TO CONTAMINATE ALL ENGINE COMPONENTS. WHEN THEY TORE DOWN THE ENGINE THEY FOUND ANTIFREEZE IN EVERY COMPARTMENT OF THE ENGINE. THEY CHANGED ALL GASKETS, REPLACED ALL FLUIDS, DID A CHANGE OF SPARK PLUGS AND CHANGED THE OXYGEN SENSOR. THEY CHARGED ME OVER $388. TO REPLACE GASKETS THEY SAID NEEDED REPLACED BUT WEREN'T COVERED UNDER THE WARRANTY RECALL. I PAID THIS TO GET MY CAR REPAIRED HOPEFULLY CORRECTLY. NO OTHER OPTION WAS GIVEN TO ME EVEN THOUGH I FELT THEY SHOULD HAVE REPLACED THE ENGINE. NOT 5 MONTH LATER I SUFFERED COMPLETE ENGINE FAILURE AFTER ONLY DRIVING AN ADDITIONAL 3,OOO MILES. I ALSO HAD TO HAVE MY CAR TOWED WHICH COST ME ANOTHER $1OO. HUFF FORD, INC IN WYTHEVILLE, VA REPLACED MY ENGINE WITH A RE-BUILT ENGINE UNDER WARRANTY. MY CAR IS STILL NOT REPAIRED CORRECTLY. WHEN THE ENGINE WAS REPLACED SOMEHOW THEY DAMAGED MY STEERING SYSTEM. THE CAR NOW DRIFTS SOMEWHAT IN THE MIDDLE STEERING RANGE SOMETHING I HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED BEFORE. I HAVE REPORTED THIS TO FORD MOTOR COMPANY AND TO MY LOCAL FORD DEALER BERGLUND FORD AS WELL AS HUFF FORD WHERE THE PROBLEM OCCURRED. I HAVE YET TO HEAR FROM ANY OF THEM ABOUT ADDRESSING THIS PROBLEM. I HAVE AN APPOINTMENT WITH BERGLUND FORD ON 10/04/00 TO ASSESS THE PROBLEM. FORD ALSO TOLD ME VERBALLY I HAVE A 3 YEAR/36,000 MILE WARRANTY ON THE REPLACED ENGINE BUT I CAN NOT GET THEM TO GIVE THIS WARRANTY TO ME IN WRITING EVEN THOUGH I HAVE ASKED FOR IT THREE TIMES. CAN YOU HELP WITH ANY OF THIS? ESPECIALLY REIMBURSEMENT OF COSTS I HAVE HAD TO PUT OUT BECAUSE FORD DID NOT REPAIR MY VEHICLE CORRECTLY YO BEGIN WITH. THANK YOU.

THE SPEEDOMETER RANDOMLY MAKES NOISES DURING WHICH TIME THE NEEDLE APPROACHES 90 MPH REGARDLESS OF THE TRAVELLING SPEED. I BELIEVE THIS IS DUE A SHORT-CIRCUIT INSIDE THE DASHBOARD. I ALSO BELIEVE THIS IS A FIRE HAZARD. MOST IMPORTANTLY, I BELIEVE THAT THIS CONDITION IS DUE TO A MANUFACTURING DEFECT WHICH HAS BEEN OVERLOOKED EITHER DUE TO NEGLIGENCE OR DUE TO POOR QUALITY CONTROL. *AK

VEHICLE HAS BEEN AT DEALER'S SINCE SEPTEMBER 1, 2000 FOR REPLACEMENT OF IGNITION MODULE, PART IS NOT AVAILABLE. FORD COMPANY TOLD CONSUMER THERE WAS A NATIONWIDE SHORTAGE OF THIS PART. *AK
WHILE DRIVING 50 MPH THE HEATER CORE FAILED, HOT COOLANT STARTED LEAKING INTO VEHICLE ON PASSENGER'S SIDE COMPARTMENT. MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. FEEL FREE TO PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION.*AK
WHILE DRIVING ABOUT 65 MPH ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON WHILE A/C WAS ON. THEN, TURNED OFF THE A/C, AND COULD SMELL LIKE SOMETHING WAS BURNING. VEHICLE STALLED ON THE HIGHWAY. FINALLY, LIGHT WENT OFF, AND RESTARTED VEHICLE WHICH HAS BEEN WORKING SINCE THEN. *AK OXYGEN SENSOR FAILED. *YH
I HAD THE HEAD GASKETS TO BLOW ON THIS VEHICLE 2 WEEKS PRIOR AND THE DEALER THAT I BOUGHT THE CAR FROM FIXED THE PROBLEM. THIS WAS UNDER A FORD RECALL FOR WHICH THEY GAVE ME 100,000 MILE EXTENDED WARRANTY. BUT THEN I BEGAN TO HAVE SMALL PROBLEMS WHERE THE CAR DID NOT RUN RIGHT, TOOK IT BACK AND THEY REPLACED THE OXYGEN SENSOR. TAKE IT BACK THE VERY NEXT DAY AND THEY TELL ME I HAVE A BROKEN MOTOR MOUNT. BUT THEY DON'T WANT TO FIX THIS UNDER THE SAME WARRANTY THE HEAD GASKETS BUT I THINK IT IS ALL RELATED TO THE SAME PROBLEM, 'BLOWN HEAD GASKETS' I HAVE LOOKED ON THE NET AND I AM NOT THE NOLY PERSON THIS HAS HAPPENED TO . ALL KINDS OF REPORTS OF MOTOR MOUNT FAILURE HAS BEEN REPORTED. THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL CONSIDERATION BY FORD.
THE SPEEDOMETER ON MY TAURUS JUMPS AROUN ONCE I HIT ABOUT 50 MPH. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD BECAUSE I HAVE NO WAY OF KNOWING HOW FAST I AM TRAVELLING DOWN THE FREEWAY. FORD SHOULD FIX THIS PROBLEM WITHOUT COST TO THE OWNER OF THE VEHICLE BECAUSE THE SPEEDOMETER HAS A DEFECTIVE PART WHICH HAS FAILED FOR MANY MORE PEOPLE THAN I. I FOUND NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS OF THIS PROBLEM WHILE SEARCHING THE INTERNET.

HEAD GASKET BLEW AT 93000MILES, ENGINE WAS OKAY AT THIS TIME. VEHICLE WAS SHAKING WHEN SHE TURNED HER VEHICLE ON. DEALERSHIP TOLD HER THAT THE MILEAGE EXCEEDS .*AK THE HEAD GASKET FAILED AGAIN AFTER BEING REPLACED. *YH
ODOMETER FAILURE, AND WAS REPLACED BY DEALER. PROBLEM ,AND DEALER NOTIFIED AGAIN. INFORMED CONSUMER THAT REPAIRS WILL BE DONE AT 50% OFF ON REPAIRS/PART. PLEASE FEEL FREE TO PROVIDE ANY FURTHER DETAILS. *AK
KEY IGNITION SWITCH ISN'T OPERABLE INSIDE OF VEHICLE. WHEN HE PUTS KEY IN IGNITION. VEHICLE WILLNOT START AT ALL. DEALERSHIP IS AWARE OF PROBLEM.*AK
THE ENGINE COOLING FAN CAUGHT ON FIRE ALMOST EXACTLY AS DESCRIBED IN RECALL 97S66, EXCEPT THE FAN WASN'T STOPPED BY SNOW. LUCKILY WHEN WE SMELLED THE SMOKE WE STOPPED THE CAR, TURNED IT OFF AND HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALER. THIS IS A POTENTIALLY FATAL SITUATION THAT AFFECTS ALL 1995 TAURUS OWNERS. WHEN I CALLED FORD TO REPORT THE PROBLEM THEY JUST BLEW ME OFF SAYING THAT MY VIN WAS NOT IN THE RANGE OF VINS FOR THAT RECALL.
SPEEDOMETER READING ERRATICALLY AT HIGHER SPEEDS. THIS IS THE SECOND SPEEDOMETER FAILURE ON THIS 95 TAURUS. REGARDING ENGINE SHUT OFF, IT HAPPENED THREE TIMES DURING OUR TRIP TO AZ. ALL THREE TIMES, THE ENGINE SHUT OFF WITHOUT WARNING WHILE IN FREE

A WIRE ATTACHED TO BRAKE PEDAL AND CONTROLS BRAKES LIGHTS TO APPEAR, AND TO DISCONNECT CRUISE CONTROL, MALFUNCTIONED. WHEN THIS WIRE WAS NOT WORKING, CONSUMER COULD BE USING CRUISE CONTROL, AND STEPPING ON BRAKE PEDAL AND VEHICLE WILL ACCELERATE RAPIDLY TOWARD VEHICLE IN FRONT. *AK
COIL SPRING BROKE CAUSING INSTANT FLAT TIRE, NOT GOING VERY FAST AT THE TIME, BUT WE WERE ON VACATION. ONE COIL SPRING REPLACED, AFTER RETURNING HOME, WE HAD THE OTHER SPRING REPLACED. CAR REPAIR GUY SHOWED US THE OTHER COIL SPRING, IT WAS BROKEN WHEN HE REMOVED IT FROM THE CAR. VERY DANGEROUS TO BE DRIVING LIKE THAT. TRANSMISSION HAD TO BE REPLACED A YEAR AGO (2000) , REPAIR PLACE SAID TAURUS'S KNOWN TO HAVE FAULTY TRANSMISSIONS, THEY REPAIR SEVERAL PER MONTH. SPEEDOMETER PROBLEM HAS BEEN AROUND SEVERAL YEARS, NOT TAKEN IN TO REPLACE SPEEDOMETER. I HEARD YOU CAN HAVE TROUBLE WHEN YOU TRY TO SELL THE CAR. WE JUST LIVE WITH PROBLEM. REST ASSURED THIS WILL BE THE LAST FORD WE EVER OWN. *AK
ONE OF THE BULBS IN THE HIGH MOUNTED BRAKE LIGHT FAILED. WHEN I OPENED THE ASSEMBLY, I DISCOVERED EVIDENCE OF VERY HIGH HEAT. ONE BULB WAS PARTIALLY MELTED, AS WERE THE SOCKETS FOR BOTH BULBS. THE BULBS WERE THE FACTORY ORIGINALS. THIS CLEARLY PRESENTS A DANGER OF FIRE. *AK

SPEEDOMETER MAKES A GRINDING NOISE, AND DRIVER IS UNABLE TO READ HOW FAST VEHICLE IS TRAVELING. *AK
WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY TRAVELING 55MPH ALL OF SUDDEN HEARD A SOUND AND NOTICED THAT THE SPEEDOMETER WAS GOING DOWN. HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO MECHANIC. CONTACTED DEALER.*AK ENGINE FAILED AND REPLACED. *YH
TRANSMISSION EXHIBITED A 'CLUNKING' NOISE WHILE CRUISING ON INTERSTATE, THEN WHITE SMOKE SEEN COMING FROM BACK AND UNDERSIDE OF CAR AS ENGINE STARTS TO WHINE. PULLED OVER TO CHECK PROBLEM AS SOON AS NOTED SINCE NO WARNING LAMPS LIGHTED INSIDE VEHICLE. ONCE PULLED ONTO SHOULDER, BURNT TRANSMISSION FLUID BURST UNDER CAR. ALL OTHER FLUID LEVELS WERE CHECKED AND FOUND ACCEPTABLE. WHEN COOLED DOWN, CAR WOULD NOT ENGAGE ANY GEAR. NEEDED TO BE TOWED TO NEAREST FORD GARAGE AND TOLD TRANSMISSION NEEDED REPLACING DUE TO INTERNAL FAILURE. NO EXTERNAL TRAUMA NOTED. TRANSMISSION COST OVER $2000 AND FORD CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE WOULD NOT OFFER ANY REIMBURSEMENT. ROUTINE TRANSMISSION MAINTENANCE PERFORMED AT 42300 MILES. PERSONALLY, I FEEL THAT A WELL-MAINTAINED TRANSMISSION SHOULD LAST LONGER THAN 49000 MILES.
THE RIGHT AND READ ENGINE MOUNTS BOTH BROKE. FORD ASSERTS THAT THE VEHICLE IS OUT OF WARRANTY. AT THIS RELATIVELY LOW MILEAGE, IT SEEMS ABSURD THAT BROKEN ENGINE MOUNTS ARE REASONABLE. I KNOW OF AT LEAST ONE OTHER PERSON WHO HAS HAD THIS SAME PROBLEM. *AK
FUEL HAS TO BE REPLACED FOR THIRD TIME IN 3 YEARS. VEHICLE WON'T START, DEALER DETERMINED FUEL PUMP WAS THE CAUSE.*AK

MOTOR MOUNT CAUSED LOUD THUMP WHEM STARTING . ONLY OCCURED WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A STANDING START AND DID NOT OCCUR AT ALL TIMES. HAD TO TAKE IT IN 3 TIMES TO GET IT CORRECTED.
SPEEDOMETER HEAD HAS FAILED AGAIN ON THIS CAR. THE ORIGINAL HEAD FAILED AND WAS REPLACED BY FORD UNDER WARRANTY. THE HEAD THAT WAS INSTALLED HAS NOW FAILED IN THE SAME MANNER AS THE ORIGINAL, THE ORIGINAL PART FAILED AT 29,000 MILES AND THE REPLACEMENT ONE HAS NOW FAILED AT 27,000 MILES. THE SPEEDOMETER NEEDLES WAVERS AND FLOATS ALL OVER THE DIAL. SOMETIMES IT JUST PEGS AT 85 MPH WHEN THE ACTUAL SPEED IS 30 MPH OR LESS. I HAVE NO IDEA HOW FAST I AM TRAVELING. FORD WANTS FIVE HUNDRED PLUS DOLLARS TO REPAIR THIS AGAIN. CALLS TO THE LOCAL DEALER HAVE REVEALED THAT THERE ARE OTHER TAURUS OWNERS WHO HAVE REPLACED NUMEROUS SPEEDOMETER HEADS AND THEY COMMENTED THAT EVEN IF IT IS CHANGED THAT THEY CANNOT GUARANTEE THAT THE REPLACEMENT PART WON'T FAIL AGAIN...IT IS UNCONSCIONABLE FOR FORD MOTOR COMPANY TO EXPECT AN OWNER TO PAY FOR THIS SAFETY RELATED REPAIR WHEN THEY ARE SUPPLYING DEFECTIVE PARTS!

RIGHT FRONT SPRINGS BROKE INTO TWO PIECES. SPRING DROPPED AROUND THE STRUT, AND APPLIED PRESSURE ON THE INSIDE TIRES. THIS CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO STOP MOVING. THE PIECES WERE VERY SHARP. THE OTHER PIECE WOULD DANGLE. CONTACTED DEALER. AFTER SEEING THE PIECES, CONSUMER WAS INFORMED NOTHING COULD BE DONE. *AK *ML
ONCE THIS VEHICLE REACHES A CERTAIN HIGH SPEED SPEEDOMETER NEEDLE GAUGE BEGINS TO FLOAT, NOT READING THE ACCURATE SPEED. SPEEDOMETER HAS BEEN REPLACED ONCE BEFORE, AND HAS TO BE REPLACED AGAIN. DEALER HAS BEEN CONTACTED. *AK *ML
ERRATIC PERFORMANCE OF SPEEDOMETER, IT WILL NOT ENGAGE AND SHOW THE CORRECT SPEED, CAUSING A SAFETY HAZARD.*AK
A DEAR WAS HIT ON DRIVER SIDE, HOOD AND FRONT FENDER BADLY DENTED AND NEED TO BE REPLACED. AIR BAGS DID NOT GO OFF, AND DEPUTY ON SCENE STATED THAT THEY SHOULD'VE GONE OFF. WHEN REPAIRS WERE MADE TO THE CAR THE BODY MAN FOUND NO SENSORS ON THE CAR. AT THE TIME OF ACCIDENT THE AIR BAG LIGHT WAS FLASHING. BUT THEY NEVER WENT OFF.*AK
