THE TRANSMISSION WILL NOT ENGAGE AT UNPREDICTABLE TIMES WHEN STOPPED. I ACTUALLY ROLLED OUT INTO A BUSY INTERSECTION WHEN I RELEASED THE BRAKES BEFORE I REALIZED I HAD NO POWER. IT WAS A CLOSE CALL. RESEARCH I HAVE DONE INDICATES THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THESE TRANSMISSIONS. *TR
(AUTO DESCRIPTION) 1995 FORD TAURUS 3.0 LITER ENGINE WITH 45,000 MILES. I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER. (1) NO EVENT LEADING TO FAILURE. (2) TRANSMISSION NOT FUNCTIONING PROPERLY. DIAGNOSTIC TEST INDICATES #2 CLUTCH FAILURE. LONG DELAY GETTING INTO DRIVE FROM REVERSE. CAR LURCHES UPON START-UP. CAR DOES NOT SHIFT PROPERLY FROM 2ND GEAR INTO 3RD GEAR. TRANSMISSION GENERALLY UNRELIABLE. TRANSMISSION HAS NOT COMPLETELY FAILED YET. (3) HAD DIAGNOSTICS PERFORMED. RECOMMENDED REPAIR IS TO REPLACE TRANSMISSION AT AN APPROXIMATE COST OF $3,000. NEW TRANSMISSION COMES WITH A 3 YR/36,000 MILE WARRANTY. MECHANIC DID NOT RECOMMEND HAVING REPAIR DONE AS REPAIR COST APPROXIMATELY EQUAL TO VALUE OF CAR WITH WORKING TRANSMISSION. *JB

MY 1995 FORD TAURUS GL HAS WENT THROUGH 3 TRANSMISSIONS IN THE PAST 6 YEARS. THIS TIME THE TRANSMISSION CAN NOT BE REBUILT. I AM TIRED OF SPENDING MONEY TO KEEP THIS CAR RUNNING WHEN THE ONLY PIECE THAT KEEPS GOING OUT IS THE DREADED AX4N TRANSMISSION USED IN THIS VEHICLE. IS THERE NOT ANOTHER TRANSMISSION THAT WILL WORK IN THIS CAR?
THE VEHICLE HAD A CRACK IN THE WINDSHIELD. THE DOORS WOULD NOT LOCK AUTOMATICALLY AS THEY SHOULD. *TC THE WINDSHIELD WIPER FAILED INTERMITTENTLY. THE DOME LIGHT FAILED. THE TRANSMISSION HAS BEEN REPLACED TWICE. *NM
WHEN ATTEMPTING TO SHIFT THE GEARS, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO MOVE. THE CONSUMER HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THE MECHANIC INFORMED THE CONSUMER THAT THE FRONT SEAL AND TRANSMISSION NEEDED REPLACING DUE CORROSION. PLEASE FILL IN ADDITIONAL INFORMATION. *JB

I HAVE SLIGHTLY LESS THAN 90,000 MILES ON OUR 1995 FORD TAURUS STATION WAGON (WHICH IS APPROX. 10,000 EASY HIGHWAY COMUTING MILES PER YEAR) AND HAVE NOW REPLACED ANOTHER TRANSMISSION IN THIS CAR. THIS IS THE THIRD TRANSMISSION IN THIS CAR, OR ABOUT ONE EVERY 30,000 MILES. (I THOUGHT 30,000 WAS THE TIME TO CHANGE THE FLUID, NOT THE ENTIRE TRANSMISSION). *AK
NEARLY EVERY PART OF TRANSMISSION WAS WORN OUT DUE TO PUMP NOT SUPPLYING FLUID AS REQUIRED. CAR ONLY HAS 35,000 MILES ON IT & HAS BEEN DRIVEN BY MY MOTHER WHO IS NOW 88 YRS. OLD. CAR ALWAYS SERVICE PER MANUAL. SERVICE MAN STATES THIS WAS A DEFECTIVE TRANSMISSION FROM FACTORY. *LA
TRANS AXLE ERRATIC SHIFTING PROBLEM DEVELOPED ON MY 1995 TAURUS WAGON. INTERMITTENT PROBLEM WITH VEHICLE NOT UPSHIFTING ON COLD ENGINE BUT WILL SHIFT HARD ON WARM ENGINE. ALSO INTERMITTENT DOWN SHIFT WHILE DRIVING ON DOWNGRADE AND WILL DOWN SHIFT HARD WHEN COMING TO A STOP. SPEEDOMETER FAILED AT MOMENT THIS PROBLEM STARTED. DEALER REPLACE SMALL GEAR ON END OF SPEEDOMETER CABLE AND THOUGHT PROBLEM WAS ALSO TIED TO A WORN GEAR ON END OF CABLE IN TRANSMISSION. THIS REPAIR WOULD REQUIRE A COMPLETE TEARDOWN OF THE TRANSMISSION. HAVE DRIVEN CAR FOR APPROXIMATELY ONE MONTH SINCE REPAIR OF SPEEDOMETER. SHIFTING PROBLEM IS INTERMITTENT WITH NO PARTICULAR PATTERN. STRONGLY SUSPECT PROBLEM ALSO INVOLVES THE ELECTRONIC CONTROL IN THE CAR COMPUTER. READ MANY SIMILIAR COMPLAINTS ON YOUR WEBSITE AND FIND IT AMAZING THAT FORD HAS NOT DEALT WITH THIS PROBLEM IN A RESPONSIBLE MANNER SINCE IT WAS IDENTIFIED SEVERAL YEARS AGO. I HAVE OWNED MANY FORD PRODUCTS AND USUALLY HAVE MANY TROUBLE FREE YEARS. MY LAST TAURUS GAVE US 119K MILE WITH LITTLE TROUBLE.*AK
I HAVE ONE OF THOSE NOTORIOUS FORD TAURUS WITH THE AUTOMATIC OVERDRIVE TRANSMISSION. IT IS A PIECE OF JUNK. WHY DIDN'T FORD STAND BEHIND THESE?
TRANSMISSION FAILED. PART HAD BEEN REBUILT; HOWEVER PROBLEM STILL EXISTS. *AK ONE PART IN THE TRANSMISSION WAS ENGINEERED IMPROPERLY. THE TRANSMISSION PISTON WHICH CREATES HYDRAULIC PRESSURE WAS MADE OF ALUMINUM. THE REPLACEMENT PART IS MADE OF CAST IRON AND WON'T BREAK OR FATIGUE LIKE THE ALUMINUM ONE. THIS COULD CREATE A ACCIDENT WHEN PULLING OUT INTO TRAFFIC AND THE TRANSMISSION FAILS TO SHIFT GEARS. *PH
TRANSMISSION SEAL FAILED ... THIS IS THE SECOND TRANSMISSION IN THE CAR INSTALLED BY FORD. THE FIRST TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED BY FORD UNDER WARRANTY FOR THE SAME REASON. THIS TRANSMISSION ONLY HAS 20,000 MILES. WE WERE TOLD BY A LOCAL MECHANIC THAT HELPED US AS WE WERE STRANDED THAT THIS IS QUITE COMMON FOR THE TAURUS. *JB

TRANSMISSION JERKS HARD WHEN STARTING IN DRIVE. IF YOU PRESS TOO HARD ON ACCELERATOR, TRANSMISSION WILL JERK HARD. I WILL DRIVE TILL GOES OUT COMPETELY BECAUSE OF HIGH COST TO REPAIR.
WHILE DRIVING AT 65 MILES AN HOUR ON A FOUR LANE STATE HIGHWAY, MY 1995 FORD TAURUS 3.0 LITER GL MODEL 4 DOOR SEDAN SUDDENLY DROPPED INTO A LOWER GEAR CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO ACT AS IF IT HAD HIT A ROCK WALL. WHEREAS I HAD BOTH HANDS ON THE STEERING WHEEL AND AN IMMEDIATE LOOK IN THE REAR VIEW MIRROR REVEALING NO OTHER VEHICLE BEHIND US IT ONLY FRIGHTENED ME. MY WIFE THOUGH WHO WAS SEAT BELTED IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT WAS VIOLENTLY THROWN FORWARD CAUSING TREMENDOUS STRESS ON HER LOWER BACK. AFTER A VISIT TO THE LOCAL HOSPITAL AN MRI SHOWED A RUPTURED LOWER LUMBAR DISC THAT HAS SINCE CAUSED HER LEFT LEG TO BECOME PERMANENTLY PARALYZED. AFTER RESEARCHING THIS PHENOMENA WITH LOCAL MECHANICS AND USING THE INTERNET I HAVE FOUND THAT THE FORD MOTOR COMPANY HAS BEEN AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM FOR OVER A DECADE AND CONTINUED TO USE THIS SAME TRANSMISSION IN SEVERAL OTHER MODELS. WHEN I CONTACTED FORD'S CUSTOMER SERVICE CENTER I WAS TOLD THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO ABOUT THE PROBLEM BECAUSE THERE WAS NEVER A RECALL FOR THIS TRANSMISSION. ANY LIGHT YOU MAY BE ABLE TO SHED ON THIS BLATANT DISREGARD FOR OF THE MOTORING PUBLIC WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED. SINCERELY, JAMES J. MULLEN. *JB
I HAVE A 1995 TAURUS THAT I PURCHASED ON JAN 31,2001. I HAD THE CAR ABOUT A WEEK AND HAD TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION. NOW I AM ABOUT TO HAVE TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION AGAIN. THE CAR WILL NOT SHIFT OUT OF 1ST GEAR. I AM WONDERING IF THERE IS A RECALL ON THE AX4N TRANSMISSION OR IF ANOTHER TYPE OF TRANSMISSION WILL FIT IN THE TAURUS.
