CONSUMER STATES THAT HORN WORKS INTERMITTENTLY,MAY CAUSE AN ACCIDENT,DUE TO THE FACT HORN MAY NOT WORK AT A CRITICAL TIME. NLM
WAS DRIVING FOR APPROXIMATELY 5 MINUTES BEFORE VEHICLE JUST QUIT. TRIED STARTING IT BACK UP AND THE SYMPTOMS WERE SIMILAR TO WHAT IT WOULD BE IF IT HAD RUN OUT OF GAS BUT IT HAD A HALF TANK FULL. WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER AND TOLD THAT THE FUEL PUMP IS THE PROBLEM. THIS IS DEFINITELY A SAFETY HAZARD WHEN THE CAR UNEXPEXTEDLY STALLS OUT IN THE MIDDLE OF BUSY RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC. NLM
FUEL GUAGE ON INSTRUMENT PANEL FAILED WHICH IN TURN CAUSED ME TO DRIVE VEHICLE UNTIL GAS WAS EMPTY WHICH IN TURN CAUSED THE FUEL PUMP TO FAIL. DEALER WILL NOT WORK WITH ME ON THE COST TO REPAIR THIS. I FEEL IT IS UNFAIR THAT I HAVE TO PAY $700 TO GET ALL THESE REPAIRS DONE WHEN IT WAS FORD'S FAULT IN THE FIRST PLACE. IF THE FUEL GUAGE ON THE DASH WOULD HAVE BEEN WORKING PROPERLY THEN I WOULD HAVE KNOWN I WAS RUNNING OUT OF GAS AND THE FUEL PUMP WOULD HAVE NEVER BEEN DAMAGED. NLM

WHEN PULLING INTO A PARKING SPACE, GAS PEDAL STUCK TO FLOOR AND VEHICLE ACCELERATED AND TOOK OFF, CONSUMER HIT A CAR/SOME TREES AND A FENCE. VEHICLE ROLLED OVER BEFORE COMING TO A STOP. VEHICLE WAS A TOTAL LOSS. *AK *TT
I WAS TURNING LEFT ONTO A STREET WHEN LEFT FRONT SPRING BROKE CAUSING DAMAGE TO STRUT AND STABILIZER LINK. THIS SEEMS TO A VERY DANGEROUS THING TO BE FAILING ON A VEHICHLE AND THROUGH RESEARCH I KNOW I AM NOT THE FIRST OWNER OF A TAURUS TO EXPIERIENCE THIS FAILURE. IT MAKES ME WONDER HOW LONG UNTIL THE RIGHT SPRING GOES. FORD SHOULD RECALL THESE VEHICHLES AND REPAIR THE PROBLEM BEFORE SOMEONE DIES AND NOT AFTER.THEY SHOULD ALSO HAVE TO REIMBURSE REPAIR COST TO ANYONE WHO HAS HAD TO HAVE THEIR SPRINGS REPLACED.*AK
SPRING BROKE ON STRAIGHT , TWO LANE ROAD WHICH WAS RECENTLY RESURFACED. I HEARD A LOUD EXPLOSIVE NOISE AND THEN MY CAR IMMEDIATELY WENT LEFT OF CENTER INTO OPPOSITE LANE. I GAINED CONTROL AND BROUGHT THE CAR BACK INTO MY LANE AND NOTICED THAT MY LEFT FRONT CORNER WAS EXTREMELY LOW . FORTUNATELY, I DID NOT TOUCH THE BRAKE PEDAL AND I COULD FEEL THAT THE TIRE WAS STILL INFLATED. I DECIDED TO LET THE CAR SLOW DOWN SLOWLY SINCE THERE WAS NO TRAFFIC VISIBLE AND ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE ROAD WAS A WIDE GRASSY AREA. AT THIS TIME , THE LEFT FRONT TIRE BLEW BECAUSE THE SPRING HAD CUT THE INSIDE OF THE TIRE AND SENT ME SLIGHTLY INTO THE OTHER LANE AGAIN. I GENTLY TAPPED THE BRAKES AND STOPPED. IT WAS A BLESSING THAT IT HAPPENED THERE AT 5 A.M. AND NO VEHICLES WERE IN THE ONCOMING LANE AT THAT TIME. IN ANOTHER 5 MINUTES I WOULD HAVE BEEN ENTERING I-96 EASTBOUND AT 70 MPH WITH A LOT OF FAST TRAFFIC. IF I WERE IN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT BECAUSE OF THIS FAILED OR DEFECTIVE PART, THE INVESTIGATION WOULD FOCUS ON ME. WAS I DRINKING? WAS I UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF DRUGS? DID I FALL ASLEEP AT 5 A.M.? DID I HAVE A HEART ATTACK? WAS I USING MY CELL PHONE? MICHIGAN LAW STATES THAT THE OWNER OF A VEHICLE THAT IS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT IS LIABLE. MY NAME IS ON THE TITLE. FORD SAYS THAT THERE ARE "PROGRAMS"ON FRONT SPRINGS ON SOME VEHICLES BUT NOT MINE. ALL DAMAGE WAS COVERED ONLY BECAUSE I HAD PURCHASED FORD PREMIUM EXTENDED SERVICE CONTRACT. ALL OF THIS IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH FOR ME . I HOPE THIS SERVES AS A CATALYST IN GETTING TO THE BOTTOM OF FORD'S SPRING PROBLEM THAT EXISTS ON OUR HIGHWAYS. WHEN I WAS PICKING MY CAR UP AT THE DEALER TODAY, A 1997 CONTOUR JUST ARRIVED WITH A "CRACKED" FRONT SPRING. PERHAPS THIS WAS A FREAK COINCIDENCE, FOR ALL OF THE 8 OR 9 FORD DEALERS THAT I SPOKE TO BEFORE I DECIDED WHO WOULD DO THE REPAIR, ASSURED ME THAT THIS NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE OR RARELY HAPPENED. WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH VEHICLE STALLED BUT CONSUMER STATED HAD RAN OUT OF GAS WITHOUT KNOWING BECAUSE THE VEHICLE GAS GAUGE WAS REGISTERING AT A HALF OF TANK. VEHICLE WOULD NOT RESTART AFTER PUTTING FUEL IN VEHICLE. TOOK TO DEALER AND DEALER INDICATED THE FUEL PUMP HAD BURNED UP. *NLM DEALER STATES THAT WITH 2? GALLONS OF GAS THE FUEL GAUGE WAS READING ? TANK, REPLACED FUEL GAUGE ASSEMBLY. *YD
CONSUMER STARTED TO SMELL ANTIFREEZE. THEN FOUND OUT THAT HEATER CORE WAS GONE. SHE WAS TOLD THAT THERE WERE REPEATED FAILURES WITH THESE PARTS.*AK
1999 FORD 3L DUO CAM ENGINE. THEIR IS NO APPARENT ENGINE BRAKING FROM THIS ENGINE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. LOCKING OUT OVERDRIVE WILL HELP BUT CAUSES THE ENGINE TO REV EXCESSIVELY. CRUISE CONTROL SPEED WILL EXCEED THE SPEED LIMIT BY A LOT WHILE GOING DOWN HILL, EVEN SLIGHTLY. *TR
THIS TAURUS HAS NO ENGINE BRAKING AT ALL. SPEED CANNOT BE DECREASED BY RELEASING THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. EXCESSIVE SPEED CAN ONLY BE AVOIDED BY "RIDING" THE BRAKES. THIS IS NOT UNCOMMON ON THIS YEAR AND MODEL. FORD DEALER SAYS IT IS NORMAL AND "OK". JUST A CONSEQUENCE OF HAVING AN OVERDRIVE TRANSMISSION. GO FIGURE!!
CONSUMER STATED WHILE SITTING AT A LIGHT, HE WAS REAR ENDED, THE FRONT HEADREST IS AT FULL EXTENSION WHICH IS USELESS, UPON BEING HIT, THE CONSUMER STATED THAT HIS HEAD WENT BACK AT A 45 DEGREE ANGLE CAUSING HIM TO SUFFER WHIPLASH.*JB
FIRST NOTICED PROBLEM 3/01/02- ALL OF A SUDDEN CAR WAS HARD TO TURN AND MAKING NOISE. WHEN I GOT HOME, MY HUSBAND FILLED POWER STEERING FLUID- IT WAS LOW BUT NOT EMPTY. SEEMED TO DO OK FOR A COUPLE DAYS- NO NOISES OR MAJOR DIFFICULTY TURNING. PROBLEMS STARTED AGAIN ONLY WORSE, NOTICED WHEN WE TURNED THE CAR OFF FLUID LEAKING FROM SOMEWHERE. WE TOOK THE CAR TO A FIRESTONE DEALER, WHO CALLED US BACK, AND ADVISED US TO TAKE THE CAR TO OUR DEALERSHIP. THEY WERE NOT SURE OF THE PROBLEM AND THOUGHT BEST TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP. ALSO ADVISED US TO CHECK INTO THIS PROBLEM FURTHER SINCE THE CAR WAS LOW IN MILEAGE. A FRIEND SUGGESTED WE LOOK AT YOUR WEBSITE TO SEE IF ANY OTHER CARS HAD THIS PROBLEM. WE DID AND FOUND 16 OTHER 1999 TAURUS REPORTING PROBLEM WITH POWER STEERING. THE NEXT DAY CAR WAS TAKEN TO ALDERMAN FORD, WE EXPLAINED THE PROBLEM- TOLD THEM ABOUT OUR FINDINGS ON YOUR WEBSITE AND THE PROBLEM WITH THE OTHER CARS. THEY SAID THEY WOULD CHECK INTO IF THE SAME PROBLEM FOUND MAYBE COULD HELP US OUT WITH COST. THREE DAYS LATER RECEIVED A CALL SAYING IT WAS THE POWER STEERING RACK- THE SAME PROBLEM REPORTED BY OTHERS TO YOUR AGENCY. THEY TOLD US THE BEST THEY COULD DO WOULD BE DO REDUCE THE PRICE BY APPROX. $200. OUR FINAL COST WAS STILL $820!!! WE EXPRESSED OUR DISPLEASURE WITH THIS, SPOKE WITH SERVICE MANAGER AND GENERAL MANGAGER. THEY SAID IF SUCH A KNOWN PROBLEM FORD WOULD PROBABLY HAVE DONE SOMETHING, AND THAT THEY HAD NOT SEEN THIS PROBLEM BEFORE. WE DO NOT HAVE MAINTENANCE RECORDS FOR THE CAR, MY HUSBAND DOES THE MAINTENANCE HIMSELF AND WE HAVE NOT DOCUMENTED IT. WE REALIZE OUR MISTAKE IN THIS PRACTICE. HOWEVER, I STILL CANNOT BELIEVE THIS PROBLEM IS HAPPENING TO MULTIPLE PEOPLE AND FORD IS DOING NOTHING ABOUT IT! I'VE HAD MANY FORDS, THIS IS MY SECOND TAURUS...AND AFTER THIS EPISODE WILL PROBABLY BE MY LAST. I REALIZE THE CAR IS OUT OF WARRANTY, BUT THIS IS A HUGE EXPENSE FOR A CAR ONLY A FEW YEARS OLD. I HOPE FORD DECIDES TO TAKE PROPER ACTION ON THIS PROBL
VEHICLE WAS GOING 70 MPH WHEN ACCELERATOR PEDAL FELL OFF, CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO LURCH FORWARD. DEALER WAS NOTIFIED. AND WAS AWARE OF PROBLEM. *AK CONSUMER STATED THAT THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS NOT ON BUT IT ENGAGED ON ITS OWN. *YH
CONSUMER STATED THE CHILD ON REAR PASSENGER SIDE HAD THE SEAT BELT LOCKED INTO PLACE AND IT STARTED TO RETRACT, CHILD WAS STUCK IN THE SEAT BELT AROUND THE RIBS, CONSUMER HAD TO CUT SEAT BELT TO GET THE CHILD OUT.*AK *YH
VEHICLE WAS LOSING POWER STEERING FLUID, VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO DEALER, AND DEALER INFORMED CONSUMER THAT RACK AND PINION STEERING HAD TO BE REPLACED. *AK THE FIRST STEERING RACK WAS DEFECTIVE AND REPLACED WITH ANOTHER STEERING RACK AND THE SECOND ONE ALSO FAILED. *YD
WHENEVER CONSUMER GETS OUT AND TOUCHES ANY PART OF THE VEHICLE HE GETS A STATIC SHOCK. DEALER WAS NOTIFIED. *AK *YD
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 FORD TAURUS SHO. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO DECELERATE AND BLACK SMOKE ROSE FROM THE ENGINE. AS THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO STOP THE VEHICLE, THE EXTERIOR BRAKE LIGHTS FAILED AND NEARLY CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO BE REAR ENDED. BEFORE HE REACHED THE FREEWAY, THE CONTACT NOTICED FLUID LEAKING FROM THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER WAS CALLED, BUT WAS UNABLE TO PROVIDE ANY ASSISTANCE. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 126,000.

FAILURE OF RACK AND PINION BEGAN 6 WEEKS PRIOR TO FINAL FAILURE. FLUID FILLED BOOT NOT LEAKING OUT BUT EMPTYING PUMP UNTIL FINAL FAILURE WHEN BOOT FINALLY LEAKED FLUID WHILE DRIVING. WAS MECHANIC CHECKED DURING FAILING PERIOD WITH NO INDICATION OF LEAKING FLUID OR CAUSE THEREOF.
WHILE TRAVELING CONSUMER NOTICED SMOKE COMING FROM THE ENGINE AREA AND THEN VEHICLE LOST ALL POWER STEERING. CONSUMER PULLED VEHICLE OVER AND LOOKED UNDER THE HOOD. NOTICED POWER STEERING FLUID LEAKING. *AK *SLC
VEHICLE HAD BEEN TO DEALER 3 TIMES FOR PROBLEMS WITH THE STEERING, VEHICLE WAS HARD TO STEER. DEALER FOUND NO PROBLEM. ONCE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY DEALER DETERMINED THE RACK AND PINION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. RACK AND PINION IS BEING REPLACED FOR THE THIRD TIME IN 8 MONTHS. NLMJLG
1999 FORD TAURUS IS SUFFERING FROM ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS. *MR THE VEHICLE WOULD SHUT OFF WITH NO WARNING, THE LOCKS ON BOTH DOORS WERE OFF AND WOULD HAVE TO BE PLAYED WITH TO GET THEM TO OPEN AT TIMES, THE HEADLIGHTS WERE INOPERATIVE, ALSO THE DASH LIGHTS WERE INOPERATIVE BEHIND THE GAS GAUGE/RADIO/HEATING/AC/CLOCK/AND SPEEDOMETER, THE RPM GAUGE WAS DELAYED AT START, THE PASSENGER DOOR MADE NOISES WHEN OPENED AND CLOSED, THE WIPERS WERE INTERMITTENT, THE TURN SIGNALS WERE INTERMITTENT, THE BRAKE LIGHT HAD COME ON, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START IN THE MORNING BUT WOULD START AT NIGHT, THE VEHICLE WAS SLUGGISH AND HAD POOR GAS MILEAGE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN IN DUE TO DEFECTIVE RELAYS WHICH WERE REPLACED. THE VIN# ON THE VEHICLE AND THE VIN# ON THE STICKER WERE DIFFERENT. *SCC *JB
DEALER UNABLE TO LOCATE A LEAK IN POWER STEERING PUMP. *AK FLUID WAS LEAKING IN TO THE POWER STEERING RACK AND PINION UNIT, FILLING BOOTS ON RACK. *JB
I HAVE HAD TROUBLE GETTING THE KEY TO WORK IN THE IGNITION SWITCH AND THE DOOR AND TRUNK LOCKS. THE KEY WILL GO IN THE LOCKS,BUT IT WILL NOT TURN TO UNLOCK AS IT SHOULD. IT TAKES SOME TIME TO GET THEM TO WORK. I HAVE STARTED TO LEAVE THE DOORS UNLOCKED SO I WILL BE ABLE TO GET IN THE CAR IN AN EMERGENCY. THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING PROBLEM SINCE JANUARY OF 2002.*AK
FRONT TIRE WOULD SHAKE WHEN COMING TO A STOP, TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER, AND THEY STATED THAT FRONT BRAKE ROTORS WERE WARPED. CAUSED UNKNOWN. *AK *JG
OIL PAN GASKET HAS SLIPPED OUT AT THE SAME SPOT,UNDER THE PULLEY. THERE IS NO BOLTS IN THE CURVE UNDER THE PULLEY, TO HOLD THE GASKET IN PLACE. *NM
I LOST THE POWER STEERING ON MY 1999 FORD TAURUS STATION WAGON. WHEN IT STOPPED WORKING, I HAD A VERY DIFFICULT TIME TURNING AROUND CORNERS. I HAD A VERY DIFFICULT TIME MAKING A LEFT TURN INTO MY DRIVEWAY. I THEN BECAME AFRAID TO DRIVE IT AS I DID NOT HAVE THE STRENGTH TO MAKE A TURN. I HAD TO HAVE A MALE FRIEND WHO IS FAR STRONGER THAN ME, DRIVE THE CAR TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIRS. MY CAR ONLY HAS 41,000 MILES ON IT. THIS IS NOT A PART THAT SHOULD WEAR OUT. I WAS ADVISED BY THE DEALER THAT THE RACK AND PINION SEALS HAD LEAKED AND THAT THE WHOLE RACK AND PINION STEERING HAD TO BE REPLACED FOR A TOTAL BILL OF $734.51. I FEEL THAT THIS PART ITSELF IS DEFECTIVE AND IT ALSO COULD BE QUITE DANGEROUS WHEN A DRIVER IS NOT ABLE TO NEGOTIATE A TURN AS EXPECTED. I WOULD APPRECIATE ALL YOU COULD DO TO INVESTIGATE THE POWER STEERING EQUIPMENT USED ON THE 1999 FORD TAURUS. THE INCIDENT DATE IS JAN. 2, 2003 BUT YOUR COMPUTER SYSTEM ONLY GOES TO 2002.

WE NOTIFIED THE DEALER ABOUT 1 MONTH AFTER PURCHASING THE CAR THAT WE THOUGHT THERE WAS A TRANSMISSION PROBLEM. TOLD US NOTHING WAS WRONG. TRANSMISSION FAILED AT 46,000. STILL WASN'T "RIGHT" AFTER REBUILT TRANSMISSION. AFTER OUR INSISTANCE, ADDITIONAL TESTING WAS DONE, SPEED SENSOR WAS REPLACED. CAR WAS SPEEDING UP ON ITS' OWN. OUR CLAIM IS THAT THE SPEED SENSOR WAS DEFECTIVE FROM THE BEGINNING CAUSING THE TRANSMISSION TO FAIL. *AK

VEHICLE EXPERIENCED A LOSS OF POWER STEERING FLUID CAUSING STEERING TO BE VERY STIFF AND HARD TO CONTROL. REFILLED FLUID AND IT WAS OKAY FOR APPROXIMATELY 100 MILES, THEN GOT LOW AGAIN. EACH TIME WE FILLED IT, IT RAPIDLY EMPTIED, UNTIL WE COULD NOT DRIVE IT MORE THAN 5-8 MILES BETWEEN REFILLS. MECHANIC FOUND THAT BOTH SIDES OF THE RACK AND PINION WERE LEAKING INTO THE DUST BOOTS, WHICH WERE FULL TO CAPACITY WITH POWER STEERING FLUID. WHOLE RACK AND PINION UNIT HAD TO BE REPLACED. FORD WOULD NOT PAY FOR REPAIR AT 46K MILES, SO WE PAID OUT OF POCKET.
CONSUMER STATES THAT THEY ARE HAVING THE SAME DEFECT WITH THEIR SEAT BELT AS IN RECALL # 99 V 250 000,BUT VEHICLE NOT INCLUDED BY VIN #. MR
TRANSMISSION BEGAN SHIFTING INTO 2ND AT A VERY LOW SPPED, WOULD ACTUALLY SNAP YOUR NECK UPON CHANGING TOOK INTO SHOP, THEY STATES 2ND GEAR OF TRANSMISSION HAS GONE OUT 2500.00 IN REPAIR TO REPLACE TRANSMISSION, ALL PREVIOUS MAINTENANCE HAD BEEN DONE BY DEALER. *AK
