TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 FORD TAURUS. WHILE DECELERATING TO 25 MPH, THE VEHICLE SHUT OFF. THE VEHICLE WOULD CHANGE GEARS AND DRIVE IN REVERSE, BUT IT WOULD NOT DRIVE FORWARD. THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE TOWED TO A MECHANIC AND HE STATED THAT THERE WAS INTERNAL TRANSMISSION FAILURE (CODE P0401EGR) AND SUGGESTED THAT THE TRANSMISSION BE OVERHAULED FOR $2,500. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS PRESENT BEFORE THE TRANSMISSION FAILED. THE POWERTRAIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 125,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 FORD TAURUS. WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE BRAKE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE STOPPING DISTANCE INCREASED. THE CONTACT NOTICED RUST ON THE REAR BRAKE LINE AS WELL AS BRAKE FLUID LEAKING. AS OF SEPTEMBER 5, 2007, THE DEALER HAD NOT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 119,000.
ON SEPTEMBER 1, 2007, WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE, A KELLY SPRINGFIELD TIRE (MOHAVE) SHREDDED. ALTHOUGH THE TIRES AND TREAD APPEARED IN EXCELLENT CONDITION, THE TREAD SEPARATED FROM THE TIRE (FROM STEEL BELT OUTWARD) WITHOUT WARNING. THE TIRE SKIN RETAINED AIR, BUT CAR UNDRIVABLE. THIS PREVIOUSLY OCCURRED EXACTLY AS WITH THIS TIRE IN JULY 2007 ON THE SAME VEHICLE. THE CAR WAS PURCHASED WITH "MOHAVE R/S" ALREADY INSTALLED. TIRES AT PURCHASE AND AT TIME OF FAILURE APPEARED IN EXCELLENT CONDITION. ALL FOUR TIRES ON VEHICLE WERE THE SAME AND NOW TWO HAVE FAILED CATASTROPHICALLY. *JB
BLOWER MOTOR FAILED DUE TO FAULTY DESIGN. COUNTLESS OTHER FORDS WITH THIS PROBLEM REPORTED ONLINE ALSO. *TR
FORD COOLANT CORROSION IS COSTING US TOOOOO MUCH. ENGINE WAS RUNNING HOT. STARTED WITH THERMOSTAT, THEN DEGAS BOTTLE CAP (FULL OF RUST), THEN WATER PUMP (FINS CORRODED AND GONE), THEN RADIATOR FLUSHED-FULL OF RUST, NOW HEAD GASKET IS GONE. FLUSHING SYSTEM DIDN'T HELP. HEATER CORE HAS PROBLEMS TOO--NO HEAT TO DEFROST WINDOWS WHICH IS HAZARDOUS TO DRIVING CAR. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 FORD TAURUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT SHE FELT VIBRATIONS IN THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE DURING DECELERATION. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE REPAIR SHOP AND THEY STATED THAT THE REAR SPRINGS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. SHE STATED THAT THE FRONT SPRINGS HAD BEEN PREVIOUSLY REPLACED. THE SPEED WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 91,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000.
SUBJECT VEHICLE IS A 1999 FORD TAURUS, MANUFACTURED IN SEPTEMBER, 1998. THE MILEAGE TRAVELED IS 111,000. I WAS PROCEEDING AT 20 TO 25 MPH BEHIND A LOGGING TRUCK. WE APPROACHED A STOP SIGN. I BRAKED. THE CAR CONTINUED TO PROCEED SLOWLY FORWARD, BUT THE ANTILOCK BRAKES ENGAGED AND THE CAR CONTINUED TO ROLL SLOWLY FORWARD. I HEARD A ROAR, AND THOUGHT THE ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION WERE MOVING THE CAR FORWARD, SO SLIPPED THE TRANSMISSION IN NEUTRAL. THE RPM RACED TO 4000 TO 4500. I SHUT OFF THE ENGINE, THEN RE-STARTED. THE REMAINDER OF THE 15 MILE COMMUTE WAS UNEVENTFUL. THIS IS THE ROUTE I HAVE TRAVELED TO WORK FOR 14 YEARS. IT IS RURAL. I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF THE VEHICLE. I CHECKED RECALL 98V204000. THE RETAINER CLIP IS IN PLACE. THE THROTTLE FEELS NORMAL. I AM A LICENSED MECHANICAL ENGINEER. *TR THE CONSUMER STATED THE ACCELERATOR CABLE AND LINKAGE ARE OKAY AT BOTH ENDS. UPDATED 09/12/07 *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 FORD TAURUS. WHILE DRIVING 15 MPH THE CONSUMERS DAUGHTER DEPRESSED THE BRAKES AND THE VEHICLE FAILED TO STOP. SHE HAD TO USE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE MECHANIC AND HE STATED THAT THE BRAKE LINES WERE RUSTED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 118,000. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 FORD TAURUS. THE CONTACT NOTICED SMOKE RISING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. HE ACTIVATED THE HEADLIGHTS SO THAT HE COULD SEE MORE CLEARLY. WHEN HE DIMMED THE HEADLIGHTS, THE VEHICLE STOPPED SMOKING. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE HEADLIGHTS FLICKERED WHEN HE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE. RAIN CAUSES A LEAK IN THE CABIN OF MY 1999 FORD TAURUS. I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE BLOWER MOTOR AND FIX THE AC. ALSO CAUSES DAMAGE TO THE INTERIOR CARPET. THE LEAK IS ALWAYS ON THE PASSENGER SIDE AFTER RAIN. *JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 FORD TAURUS. WHILE DRIVING 1 MPH, THE PASSENGER SIDE FRONT TIRE BLEW OUT. THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE COIL SPRING PUNCTURED THE TIRE AND CAUSED IT TO FLATTEN. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A GAS STATION. HE SPOKE WITH THE LOCAL FORD DEALER AND THEY ADVISED HIM TO BRING THE VEHICLE IN FOR REPAIR. THE DEALER REPLACED THE PARTS FOR FREE, HOWEVER, THEY WOULD NOT REIMBURSE HIM FOR THE TOW AND THE NEW TIRE. THE CONTACT BELIEVES THAT HIS VEHICLE SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN RECALL NUMBER 04V332000 (SUSPENSION:FRONT:SPRINGS:COIL SPRINGS). THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 152,000.
MY 1999 FORD TAURUS BRAKE LINE CORRODED AND FELL INTO PIECES. THIS METAL LINE SHOULD NOT HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM. THE METAL ALLOY IN THIS LINE IS AT FAULT AND SHOULD BE RECALLED OR WARRANTY DUE TO THE SEVERELY DANGEROUS OUTCOME. MY 16 YEAR OLD PULLED THE CAR INTO THE DRIVEWAY WHEN THE LINE LITERALLY BLEW AND ALL OF THE FLUID BLEW OUT. IT WAS A MIRACLE THAT THIS DID NOT OCCUR ANY OTHER TIME WHILE DRIVING BECAUSE THERE IS NO PEDAL BRAKING AT ALL! *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 FORD TAURUS. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE IN FOR INSPECTION AND WAS TOLD THAT SHE HAD TO HAVE THE HEADLIGHTS REPLACED. THE HEADLIGHTS HAD OXIDIZED AND PREVENTED THE PROPER AMOUNT OF LIGHT FROM SHINING THROUGH. THE PURCHASE DATE OF THE VEHICLE WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 120,000. THE "ABS" LIGHT ON MY CAR (1999 FORD TAURUS SHO )CAME ON. I BROUGHT THE CAR TO THE DEALER, SUN STATE FORD, AND WAS TOLD I NEEDED A REPLACEMENT ABS MODULE (PART#F8DZ2C219DA). I WAS FURTHER TOLD THAT THE PART WAS OBSOLETE AND UNAVAILABLE. I CONTACTED FORD MOTOR COMPANY DIRECTLY ON SEVEN SEPARATE OCCASIONS...EACH TIME THEY EMAILED ME A DIFFERENT "OBSOLETE PARTS VENDOR TO CONTACT...EACH TIME TO NO AVAIL. ON 6/5, IN THEIR FINAL RESPONSE TO ME, FORD INDICATED THAT THEY FELT THEY HAD RESPONDED APPROPRIATELY AND WOULD DO NOTHING ELSE TO HELP. IN THE MEANTIME, THE ABS ON MY CAR STILL DOES NOT WORK AND I AM NO CLOSER TO A RESOLUTION. THIS IS A SAFETY RELATED ISSUE THAT I FEEL FORD NEEDS TO ADDRESS. *TR
TL*- THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING THE 1999 FORD TAURUS AT 40 MPH IT CRASHED INTO THE BACK OF ANOTHER VEHICLE, AND THE DRIVER'S SIDE AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY. THE CONTACT HAS NOT HAD THE VEHICLE INSPECTED TO DETERMINE THE REASON FOR THE CRASH. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE HOME. THE VEHICLE CURRENTLY HAD AN ODOMETER READING OF 100,000. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 FORD TAURUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS IDLING HIGH. THIS CONFIRMED THAT THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS OFF. THE CONTACT ENGAGED THE BRAKES. HOWEVER, THE HIGH IDLE CONTINUED TO OCCUR. WHEN THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO STOP THE VEHICLE STALLED AND THE BRAKES FAILED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 97,000 MILES. *AK

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 121,000.
1999 FORD TAURUS CUSTOMER STATES THAT THEY REPLACED THE WIRING HARNESS THREE TIMES DUE TO IT BURNING OUT **CC *JB
DRIVING OUR 99 FORD TAURUS WHEN WE HAD A SUDDEN BLOWOUT AND SAGGING ON THE LEFT FRONT. THE STRUT SPRING HAD RUPTURED, ALSO PUNCTURING THE TIRE. NEW FRONT STRUTS AND TIRES TOTALLED OVER $1100. LUCKILY, WE WERE TRAVELING AT LOW SPEED WHEN THIS OCCURED. ONE MONTH LATER I DISCOVER THAT FORD HAD RECALLED VEHICLES INCLUDING OUR TYPE FOR THAT VERY PROBLEM. WE WERE NEVER NOTIFIED. THE FORD CUSTOMER RELATIONS PERSON (JASMINE) SAID THAT BECAUSE THEY DID NOT HAVE A 'PROFILE' ON US, WE WERE NOT NOTIFIED. WE HAVE LIVED AT THE SAME ADDRESS SINCE 1991 AND HAVE OWNED THIS CAR FOR YEARS. ANY SECRETARY OF STATE OFFICE WOULD HAVE HAD OUR INFO, YET NO GENUINE NOTIFICATION ATTEMPT WAS MADE. I LEARNED THAT FORD EXTENDED WARRANTY COVERAGE FOR THAT PROBLEM BUT THE TIME AND/OR MILEAGE ON OUR CAR NOW SLIGHTLY EXCEEDED THE LIMIT. I PHONED THE NHTSA ROUGHLY 3 WEEKS AGO. A LADY TOOK DOWN MY COMPLAINT AND STATED THAT SOMEONE WOULD CONTACT ME BY PHONE OR EMAIL. I HAVE RECEIVED NEITHER. I EMAILED FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE AND MY REPLY WAS THAT THERE WAS NO PENDING ACTIONS OR ADJUSTMENTS REGARDING MY VEHICLE. WHEN THIS PROBLEM FIRST SURFACED FORD APPARENTLY TOOK THE EAST WAY OUT AND ONLY NOTIFIED PEOPLE THEY HAD ON RECORD AS OWNERS. IF NOTIFIED, I WOULD HAVE IMMEDIATELY HAD THEM REPAIR THE CAR. NO NOTIFICATION, NO REPAIR AND OUR WELL- BEING WAS PUT IN DANGER AS A RESULT. WE WERE NOT HURT BUT I WOULD LIKE FORD TO LIVE-UP TO THEIR RESPONSIBILITY AND COVER THE DAMAGE COST AS SHOULD HAVE BEEN THE CASE ANYWAY. I WOULD LIKE YOUR INPUT ON THIS BEFORE I PROCEED FURTHUR. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING UNDER SNOWY CONDITIONS AND WAS DRIVING AT ABOUT 40 MPH WHEN THE FRONT DRIVERS SIDE COIL SPRING FAILED WHICH CAUSED THE TIRE TO BLOWOUT. THE CONTACT HAS THE SAME FAILURE AS MENTIONED IN RECALL 04V332000 REGARDING SUSPENSION:FRONT:SPRINGS: COIL SPRINGS. WHEN THE CONTACT WENT TO THE DEALER ABOUT THIS THEY WERE TOLD THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT UNDER A RECALL, AND THAT THE CONTACT WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPAIRS. *AK
TL* - THE CONTACT HAS FOUND A SAFETY RECALL 04V33200 ON THE1999 FORD TAURUS REGARDING SUSPENSION:FRONT:SPRINGS:COIL SPRINGS. THE CONTACT WOULD LIKE HIS VEHICLE TO BE INCLUDED IN THE SAFETY RECALL. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE LIVES IMMEDIATELY ACROSS THE MISSOURI RIVER FROM IOWA WHICH IS INCLUDED, AND HE DOESN'T UNDERSTAND WHY HIS VEHICLE IS EXCLUDED. THE CONTACT IS NOT CURRENTLY EXPERIENCING ANY PROBLEMS WITH HIS VEHICLE, BUT HE BELIEVES THAT HIS DRIVING CONDITIONS ARE THE SAME AS VEHICLE OWNERS IN THE STATE OF IOWA. *AK
WE HAD A TOTAL BRAKE FAILURE ON OUR 1999 FORD TAURUS, WE DROVE OUT OF OUR DRIVE WAY GOING TO THE MAIL BOX AND WHEN WE HIT THE BRAKES THE BRAKE FAILURE LIGHT CAME ON AS THE BRAKES WENT TO THE FLOOR AND THE CAR COASTED TO A STOP. IF WE HAD BEEN GOING FASTER IT WOULD HAVE BEEN VERY SERIOUS. THE PROBLEM WAS THAT THE BRAKE LINE TO THE BACK BRAKES SPLIT AND LEAKED ALL THE FLUID WHICH LED TO THE FAILURE, ARE THESE CARS SUPPOSED TO HAVE A BACK UP SYSTEMS?*JB
FRONT COIL SPRING BROKE ON MY 1999 FORD TAURUS. I WAS TOLD BY THE TOW DRIVER IT WAS A RECALL ISSUE WITH THE MODEL. I CHECKED ON FORD'S WEB SITE AND SURE ENOUGH IT WAS. FORD AGREED TO FIX THE COIL, BUT NOT THE TIRE IT PUNCTURED. THEY SAY I WAS INFORMED BY MAIL, ALTHOUGH I NEVER RECEIVED ANY NOTICE. I TAKE MY CAR IN FOR REGULAR SERVICE 4-5 X PER YEAR AND WAS NEVER, NOT EVEN ONCE, TOLD THEY COULD DO THE RECALL AT NO CHARGE WHILE MY CAR WAS THERE. I HAVE NOT RECEIVED THEIR RECALL NOTICE, POSSIBLY BECAUSE I HAVE MOVED 2X SINCE BUYING THE CAR. THEY WERE NOTIFIED OF MY ADDRESS CHANGE EACH TIME I MOVED. *JB
THE FRONT PASSENGER SEATBELT, 2ND SEAT SEATBELTS HAVE NOT RETRACKED PROPERLY SINCE PURCHASE OF OUR USED FORD TAURUS WAGON. BACK SEAT BELTS ALSO TWIST THEMSELVES AND ARE CONSTANT PROBLEMS. I HAVE GRANDCHILDREN THAT NEED TO BE RESTRAINED AND THIS CAUSES BIG PROBLEMS. SINCE THIS APPEARS TO BE A CONTINUOUS PROBLEM AND COMPLAINT WHY HASN'T A RECALL BEEN ISSUED BEFORE A DEATH OR SERIOUS INJURY HAS OCCURRED?? ACCORDING TO MY OLD INSURANCE SITE-THERE WAS A RECALL ISSUED FOR THE SEATBELT PROBLEM BUT THE FORD SITE DOESN'T LIST IT UNDER MY VIN #. *TR
MY WIFE WAS PULLING UP TO PICK UP FOR HER PRESCRIPTION WHEN SHE APPLIED THE BRAKE IT FAILED. STEEL BRAKE LINE FAILURE. 18 FOOT OF STEEL BRAKE LINE WAS REPLACED. *JB
I HAVE A 1999 FORD TAURUS WITH A BLOWN HEAD GASKET. IT SEEMS TO ME THAT THE FORD MOTOR CO. KNEW ALL ALONG THIS WAS A PROBLEM. I TOOK MY CAR IN TO GET THE THERMOSTAT REPLACED BECAUSE I DID NOT HAVE ANY HEAT. I GET THE CALL THE NEXT DAY THAT I HAVE A BLOWN HEAD GASKET. I HAVE AN AUTISTIC DAUGHTER AND MY MOTHER WHO HAS RHEUMATOID ARTHRITIS THAT I NEED TO USE THIS CAR TO TAKE TO DOCTOR APPTS. AND SUCH. I CAN NOT AFFORD TO FIX THIS PROBLEM, AN $1100.00 PROBLEM, NOR CAN I AFFORD TO GO OUT AND BUY ANOTHER CAR. I AM UPSET, ANGRY, HURT, AND OTHER EMOTIONS I CANNOT DESCRIBE. MY '99 TAURUS DAYTIME DRIVING LIGHTS FLICKER TO THE POINT WHERE I HAD TO PULL THE FUSE. I HAD ONE INCIDENT WHERE I COULDN'T TURN OFF THE LIGHTS. YESTERDAY WHEN I SET THE ALARM, THE HORN DIDN'T BEEP SO NOW THE HORN DOESN'T WORK EITHER. I HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE LIGHTS GOING ON AND FLICKERING WHEN THE CAR IS OFF. *TR
MY WIFE RECENTLY EXPERIENCED A TOTAL BRAKE FAILURE ON MY 99 TAURUS WAGON (46K MILES). SHE WAS STARTING OUT OF HER PARKING SPACE SO THERE WAS NO COLLISION. THIS SHOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED AS THIS VEHICLE HAS A DUAL DIAGONAL SYSTEM FOR SAFETY. UNFORTUNATELY THE DIAGONAL PART IS WHAT DID IT IN AS THE TWO LINES RUNNING TO THE REAR WHEELS WERE RUN TOGETHER AND BOTH ROTTED OUT SIMULTANEOUSLY. *NM
I OWNED A 1999 TAURUS AND DROVE IT FOR APPROXIMATELY SEVEN YEARS WITHOUT MAJOR PROBLEMS. I PERFORMED THE NORMAL MAINTENANCE ON THE VEHICLE AND IT WAS IN GOOD WORKING ORDER. ON SEPTEBMER 20, 2006 THE VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE. THE CAR WAS PARKED IN FRONT OF MY HOUSE. THE SOURCE OF THE FIRE APPEARED TO BE THE FRONT RIGHT AREA OF THE ENGINE COMPONENT. THE VEHICLE IS COMPLETELY DESTROYED AND IS NOW IN A JUNK YARD. THE LOCAL FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS CALLED TO THE SCENE AND PUT THE FIRE OUT. THERE WERE NO INJURIES, AND MINOR DAMAGE TO THE GRASS DUE TO THE HEAT OF THE FIRE. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE RETRACTOR SEIZED AND WOULD NOT ALLOW THE SEAT BELT TO EXTEND FOR USE ON THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT. THE SERVICE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED. UPDATED 10/31/2006 - THE CONSUMER CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER WHO INDICATED THAT THEY WERE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANYTHING AFTER 5 YEARS. *NM
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 FORD TAURUS. WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH, THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE DEALER STATED THAT COOLANT WAS LEAKING FROM THE HEAD GASKET AND THERE WAS CORROSION IN THE COOLANT. THE DEALER REPLACED THE HEAD GASKET. THERE IS SERVICE BULLETIN # 622646 FOR THE COOLING SYSTEM. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 90,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 84,000.
I HAVE A 1999 FORD TAURUS WAGON AND THE COOLING SYSTEM HAS BEEN A THORN IN MY SIDE FOR THE LAST 2 YEARS. FIRST 1K WAS LEAKING COOLANT AND WHEN I BROUGHT INTO THE DEALERSHIP,WAS TOLD THE FREEZE PLUGS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AS THE COOLANT WAS ACIDIC. THIS WAS MY FOURTH CAR AND I HAD NEVER IN MY LIFE HEARD ANYTHING LIKE THAT. THEN, WHEN CHANGED THERE WAS ALOT OF RUST IN THE COOLANT SYSTEM. HAD TO CHANGE THE THERMOSTAT, FREEZE PLUGS, AND WATER PUMP. THEN THINGS BECAME WORSE. I STARTED HAVING ENGINE PROBLEMS WHICH RESULTED IN REPLACING THE HEAD GASKET AND ENGINE HEAD. WHEN I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP, I WAS TOLD THEY HAVE SEEN THIS PROBLEM MANY TIMES ON THAT MODEL YEAR CAR. THEY SUGGESTED I REPLACE THE ENGINE, AT AN ESTIMATED COST OF $7,000 OR BUY A NEW CAR. THEN I HAD NO HEAT IN THE CAR AS A RESULT ALSO. NEEDLESS TO SAY, I HAVE GOTTEN THE WORK DONE ON THE CAR AND SPENT ABOUT $4,000. I WAS TOLD BY ONE DEALERSHIP THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE ENGINE CORE WHICH WAS A MANUFACTURER DEFECT BUT FORD WOULD NEVER OWN UP TO IT. *TR
I WAS ON VACATION WHEN MY CAR LOST ACCELERATION I PULLED UP TO THE STOP SIGN WHERE MY CAR WAS SMOKING, DROVE TO THE NEAREST MECHANIC TO FIND OUT I HAD A BLOWN GASKET. MY TEMP LIGHT NEVER WENT ON AND ITS FUNCTIONING. THE MECHANIC THERE TOLD ME THIS WAS A KNOWN FORD PROBLEM. I CALLED MY OWN MECHANIC WHEN I GOT BACK HOME AND HE TOLD ME THE SAME THING. I JUST GOT DONE PAYING FOR MY CAR WHEN THIS HAPPENED. I CALLED FORD AND THEY TOLD ME THERE WAS NOTHING I COULD DO. AFTER READING SO MANY COMPLAINT'S WHY ISN'T FORD DOING ANYTHING WITH THIS PROBLEM. PROBLEM WENT FROM BAD TO WORSE WITHIN 6 DAYS. I TOOK THE CAR TO 5 CAR MECHANICS INCLUDING THE FORD DEALERSHIP. ALL AGREED THAT THE PROBLEM IS MAJOR MECHANICAL FAILURE WITHIN THE TRANSMISSION. REPAIR WOULD REQUIRE THE REPLACEMENT OF THE TRANSMISSION OR OVERHAUL. NO CRASHES OR INJURIES RESULTED FROM THE FAILED TRANSMISSION. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER SEATBELT LOCKING MECHANISM FAILED TO RETRACT THE SEAT BELT WEBBING ON 07/07/06. THE CONTACT'S SPOUSE TOOK THE MECHANISM APART, RETRACTED THE WEBBING, AND THEN THE WEBBING WOULD NOT EXTRACT AT ALL. THE OCCUPANT CAN NOT USE THE SEAT BELT AND THERE ARE NO PICTURES OR REPAIR INVOICES AVAILABLE. THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED ON 07/25/06 TO ORDER A REPLACEMENT LOCKING MECHANISM BUT IT WAS NOT PURCHASE DUE TO THE COST.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 FORD TAURUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REAR SEAT BELT RETRACTORS HAVE MALFUNCTIONED. THE SEAT BELTS WILL NOT PULL OUT TO BE USED, THEREFORE SHE CANNOT RESTRAIN ANYONE IN THE REAR SEATS. BOTH SEAT BELTS FAILED WITHIN ONE MONTH OF EACH OTHER. SHE STATED THAT THE REAR SEATS ARE RARELY USED, THEREFORE THE FAILURE COULD NOT HAVE BEEN CAUSED BY EXCESSIVE OR IMPROPER USE. THE DEALER STATED THAT SHE IS BEYOND THE EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR THE BELTS AND THE REPAIR WOULD COST $476. THE DEALER ALSO STATED THAT HER VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN RECALL NUMBER 99V250000 (SEAT BELTS:FRONT:ANCHORAGE). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 77,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 78,000.
I HAVE A 1996 FORD TAURUS AND A 1999 FORD TAURUS. I HAVE HAD THREE INCIDENTS (2 WITH THE 1996 MODEL AND ONE WITH THE 1999 MODEL) WHERE THE RIGHT FRONT TIRES HAVE BLOWN DUE TO LOW INFLATION PRESSURE. I HAVE ROTATED TIRES, CHANGED BRANDS OF TIRES, REPLACED VALVE STEMS, ETC. YET THE PROBLEM REMAINS; THE RIGHT FRONT TIRES ALWAYS LOSE PRESSURE AT A SIGNIFICANTLY MORE RAPID RATE THAN ANY OF THE OTHER THREE TIRES. THERE MUST BE SOME ISSUE WITH THE SUSPENSION, OR SOMETHING. THESE TIRES HAVE NOT HAD ANY ABNORMAL STRESS OR DAMAGE DUE TO HITTING CURBS OR ANYTHING SIMILAR TO THAT. *JB

THE DEALER WILL NOT REPAIR IT FOR FREE. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE PURCHASE DATE WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 108,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 96,000.
TOTAL BRAKE SYSTEM FAILURE I WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE AT MEDIUM SPEED, AND PRESSED THE BRAKES TO SLOW DOWN AT THE CURVE. TO MY HORROR THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT DOWN ALL THE WAY WITHOUT SLOWING THE CAR AT ALL. THERE WAS NO BRAKE WARNING LIGHT. THE BRAKES CAME BACK BRIEFLY AFTER PRESSING A FEW TIMES, BUT WENT OFF AGAIN AT THE NEXT STOP LIGHT. THE CAR RAN THROUGH A RED LIGHT, BUT FORTUNATELY THERE WAS NO CROSS TRAFFIC. I PULLED OVER SLOWING IT DOWN AND PUT IT INTO PARK. WE GOT THE CAR TOWED TO THE NEAREST BRAKES REPAIR SHOP. THE MECHANIC HAS INFORMED US THAT THE CAUSE IS AN "INTERNAL LEAK IN THE MASTER CYLINDER". *JB
4/27/2006, I HAD A VIBRATION IN MY STEERING WHEEL NOTED PRIMARILY AT LOW SPEEDS. I HAD MY BRAKES DONE AND GENERAL MAINTENANCE BUT VIBRATION WAS STILL PRESENT. WENT TO TIRE SHOP WHO EVALUATED PASSENGER SIDE REAR TIRE WHICH WAS SEPARATING. I HAD COOPER TOURING TIRES ON THE VEHICLE APPROX 1 1/2 YEARS OLD. I HAD THE TIRE REPLACED AND THE OTHER TIRES INSPECTED AND BALANCED. VIBRATION WAS NO LONGER PRESENT. 5/21/06 DRIVING EAST ON I-10 BEGAN FEELING A STEERING VIBRATION. I WAS NEARING TUCSON AND PLANNED TO EXIT TO THE NEAREST TIRE SHOP, VIBRATION INCREASED. I TOOK INVENTORY OF VEHICLES AROUND ME NOTING A TRUCK PULLING A BOAT AND MADE A DECISION THAT I DID NOT WANT TO BE BY THE BOAT IF ANYTHING HAPPENED. I MADE LANE CHANGE AND SHORTLY AFTER TIRE MADE A BIG BANG AND I SPUN 360 DEGREES ON THE FREEWAY, SPINNING REARWARD INTO THE MEDIAN. I DID AVOID HITTING TREES, OTHER VEHICLES AND BEING STRUCK BY ON-COMING TRAFFIC. I AM A DRIVING INSTRUCTOR AND HAVE HAD SKID CAR TRAINING. THIS WAS THE MOST HORRENDOUS EVENT EVER IN MY DRIVING CAREER. VEHICLE DID SUSTAIN DAMAGE. POLICE ASSISTED IN GETTING ME OUT OF THE VEHICLE ( I USE A WHEELCHAIR AND DRIVE WITH HAND-CONTROLS) AND REMOVED THE TIRE AND PUT THE SPARE ON THE VEHICLE. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE TO THE NEAREST TIRE REPAIR FACILITY - THE TIRE WAS REPLACED. THE TIRE COMPLETELY SEPARATED AND SHREDDED - I HAVE THE TIRE. THE VEHICLE BODY HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED YET. TODAY WHEN DISCUSSING WITH CO-WORKERS WHAT HAPPENED - I WAS INFORMED OF A RECENT COOPER TIRE DEFECT STORY AND THAT IS HOW I GOT TO THIS SITE. I WAS TOLD BY THE FORD SERVICE PERSONNEL THAT MY CAR HAS A BAD STEERING RACK WHICH NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AT THE COST OF $750. MY CAR WAS BROUGHT TO THE MECHANIC BECAUSE MY STEERING BECAME LABORED AND DIFFICULT TO CONTROL. I WAS TOLD IT IS A HAZARD TO OPERATE THE VEHICLE. *NM

1999 FORD TAURUS REAR CENTER SEAT LAP/SHOULDER BELT ASSEMBLY. CHILD WAS TAKING SEAT BELT OFF AND THE ATTACHMENT FELL APART. THE LATCH PLATE COMPLETELY FELL APART AND THE BELT IS NOT USABLE. LUCKILY I WAS NOT IN A CRASH OR THIS BELT WOULD HAVE FAILED ALLOWING MY CHILD TO BE INJURED. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THAT RECALL # 04V332000 WAS RECEIVED. AFTER RECEIVING THE RECALL THE CONTACT WENT TO THE DEALER FOR THEM TO PUT GUARDS ON THE SPRINGS OF THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. HOWEVER AFTER A FEW WEEKS THE SPRINGS FRACTURED WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH. AFTER THE INCIDENT THE CONTACT TOOK THE CAR TO A SERVICE DEALER. THE DEALER REPLACED THE SPRINGS AND THE MOUNTS OF THE SPRINGS. THE DEALER PAID FOR THE COST OF THE LABOR AND THE NEW SPRINGS BUT DID NOT PAY FOR THE MOUNTS OF THE SPRINGS. AT THE PRESENT TIME THE VEHICLE VIBRATES SO MUCH IN THE FRONT PART THE CONTACT FEELS THE VEHICLE IS USELESS.
DT*: THE CONTACT OWNS A COSCO HIGH-RISE/AMBASSADOR BACKLESS BELT POSITIONING BOOSTER SEAT, MODEL #22-297-FLP BUILT ON JANUARY 25, 2006. WHILE THE BOOSTER SEAT WAS BEING INSPECTED, THE INSPECTOR DETERMINED THERE WAS A CLIP MISSING FROM THE SEAT. THE CLIP THAT PREVENTS THE SHOULDER STRAP FROM PUSHING ON THE OCCUPANT'S NECK WAS MISSING. THE MANUFACTURER OF THE BOOSTER SEAT INFORMED THE CONTACT THE CLIP IS NO LONGER BEING MANUFACTURED; THEREFORE THEY WERE UNABLE TO PROVIDE A REPLACEMENT CLIP. *AK
REAR PASSENGER SEAT 3-POUNT SAFETY BELT FAILURE. BELT LOCKED AND WOULD NOT RETRACT AND FUNCTION AS A USABLE SAFETY DEVICE. THE REPLACEMENT COST WAS $69.07 FOR THE BELT AND $145.00 LABOR. THIS IS THE SECOND FAILURE. IN 2004, THE REAR DRIVER SEAT 3-POINT BELT ALSO FAILED AND HAD TO BE REPLACED.*AK
