20150705 0940 AS I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 25-30 MPH THE CAR STARTED ACCELERATING ON ITS ON, I TAPPED ON THE BRAKES, THERE WERE NO DECELERATION OF THE VEHICLE, AS THE CAR CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE. AS I WAS COMING TO MY LEFT HAND TURN APPROACHING OTHER VEHICLES I REALIZE THAT I WAS NOT GOING TO BE ABLE TO STOP THE CAR AS LONG AS THE CAR KEEPS ACCELERATING, THEREFORE I EXECUTED THE TURN PREMATURELY TO AVOID A POSSIBLE ACCIDENT. AS I ENTERED ONTO THE STREET I TURNED ON TO I PUMPED THE BRAKES SEVERAL TIMES AND THE CAR CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE. I CONTINUED TO PRESS THE BRAKES AND SLOWING THE CAR TO ABOUT 5 MPH AND RELEASED THE BRAKES AND THE CAR TAKEN OFF AGAIN. I PLACED THE CAR IN NEUTRAL AND REVVED THE ENGINE SEVERAL TIMES AND THE ENGINE SPEED CAME BACK DOWN TO IDLE.I JUST HAD THE VEHICLE AT THE BUTCH OUSTALET FORD DEALERSHIP (20150512 WITH A WRITTEN AND ORAL DESCRIPTION OF THE PROBLEMS WITH THE ACCELERATION, ENGINE SHUT-OFF, STALLING . I WAS CONTACTING BY THEM INFORMING ME ABOUT THE CRUISE CONTROL CABLE, WINDSHIELD WIPER WATER HOSE BROKEN AS WELL AS BILL FOR OVER $1000.00 TO REPAIR.AS I RESEARCHED ONLINE LAST NIGHT TO FIND OUT THERE HAS BEEN A ISSUE RELATED FOR THIS SAME PROBLEM, AND THAT NHTSA HAS CONTACTED FORD ABOUT THIS, BUT GIVEN THEM THE OPPORTUNITY TO HANDLE IT IN-HOUSE, A RECALL WAS NEVER ISSUED OF THIS POTENTIALLY DEATH TRAP AT THE COST OF THE CONSUMER.ON THE INVOICE THERE IS A LIMITED WARRANTY FOR CERTAIN PARTS, BUT THERE IS NO WARRANTY FOR MISDIAGNOSING, WRONGFUL CHARGE, INTENTIONAL FRAUD AND ABUSE OF CUSTOMER EXPECTATION, NOT TO MENTION INTEGRITY OF THE DEALERSHIP.WHAT I HAVE READ ONLINE REGARDING NHTSA INVESTIGATION IS , IT IS GOING TO TAKE SEVERAL DEATHS RELATED TO THIS ISSUE BEFORE POSITIVE CORRECTIVE MATTERS ARE TAKEN BEFORE THE CONSUMERS RECEIVE THE JUSTICE THAT IS NEEDED.1965 MUSTANG ISSUES, STILL IN DENIAL. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD TAURUS. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, THE VEHICLE INDEPENDENTLY ACCELERATED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL, BUT THE RPMS INCREASED AND THE ENGINE REVVED. THE CONTACT POWERED THE VEHICLE OFF AND BACK ON AND THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN WITHOUT INCIDENT. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON THREE OTHER OCCASIONS WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, BUT THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS UNABLE TO BE DETERMINED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURES. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 96,000.
HELLO, THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THIS CAR'S ACCELERATOR PETAL WENT OUT OF CONTROL (FORD TAURUS). ON YESTERDAY, I HAD MY DAUGHTER IN THE CAR AND THE CAR STARTED TO ACCELERATE ON IT'S ON FASTER, FASTER AND FASTER. IT WAS SO SCARY MY DAUGHTER SAID MOMMY YOU ARE SHAKING. EVEN WHILE HOLDING THE BREAKS DOWN I WAS ABLE TO SLOW IT DOWN BUT THE CAR WAS STILL MOVING. THIS HAPPENED PREVIOUSLY ABOUT 8 MONTHS OR SO AGO. THAT INCIDENT WAS REALLY BAD. I HAD TO CALL 911 WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD UNABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE. AS I WAS SLIDING ON MY BREAKS I ALMOST GOT HIT IN THE BACK AS WELL AS ALMOST HIT SOMEONE ELSE. THIS HAPPENED IN A HIGH SPEED BUSY TRAFFICE AREA. I TOOK THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALER. THEY TOLD ME IT WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. THEY FIRST CHARGED ME OVER A HUNDRED DOLLARS TO LOOK AT IT. THEN WHEN HE DID A TEST DRIVE HE REFUNDED MY MONEY. I STILL OWE A GREAT DEAL OF MONEY ON THE CAR. SO, I CAN'T AFFORD PAY THE CAR NOTE AND PURCHASE A NEW CAR. I HAD CONTACTED THE FORD CORPORATE OFFICE. THEY INFORM ME THAT NOT ENOUGH FATALITIES HAVE TAKEN PLACE FOR THEM TO RECALL THE VEHICLE. I AM UNABLE TO GO TO WORK AND HAVE NO WAY OF GETTING THERE AND NO MONEY TO PAY THIS CAR OFF AND PURCHASE A NEW CARD. I CONTACTED PERFORMANCE FORD ON S. BLVD IN CHARLOTTE DURING THE PREVIOUS INCIDENT. THEY WERE NICE BUT SENT ME HOME WITH THE SAME CAR AND NOW THE ISSUES ARE BACK AGAIN. I AM TERRIFIED TO DRIVE MY CAR, RECENTLY DIVORCED WITH A DAUGHTER AND COLLEGE. CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME.
CAR ACCELERATED WITHOUT PUSHING ON THE GAS PEDAL. UNABLE TO GET THE ACCELERATION TO STOP UNTIL THE CAR WAS SHUT OFF. AFTER PARKING, I FOUND THAT THE CRUISE CONTROL CLIP HAD COME OFF THE THROTTLE. .. UPDATED 09/30/15*BF
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2005 FORD TAURUS. WHILE DRIVING AT 15 MPH, THE DRIVER ACCIDENTALLY DEPRESSED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL INSTEAD OF THE BRAKE PEDAL. AS A RESULT, THE VEHICLE CRASHED INTO A TREE. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER BOTH SUSTAINED INJURIES THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE DRIVER OF THE VEHICLE SUFFERED FATAL INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A SALVAGE YARD. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 137,000.
I WAS DRIVING ON A COUNTRY ROAD WITH CURVES AND HILLS. MY CAR BEGAN RACING AHEAD, EVEN THOUGH I WASN'T PRESSING HARDER ON THE ACCELERATOR. I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE ACCELERATOR AND IT SURGED UPHILL, I BRAKED BUT THE ENGINE PULLED HARD SPEEDING UP EVEN FASTER. I WAS IN DRIVE, BUT SHIFTED TO 1 (LOW). THERE WAS NO WHERE TO PULL OVER, I MANAGED TO MAKE IT HOME AND CALL MY MECHANIC. HE REPLACED THE IGNITION COIL AND THE PROBLEM WENT AWAY UNTIL JUNE 26TH (WHILE I WAS AWAY FROM HOME ON A LONG DISTANCE TRIP). THERE WOULD BE ACCELERATION AND WHEN THE FLOOR MAT WAS PULLED AWAY AND THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS PUSHED UP FROM UNDERNEATH WITH THE FOOT, THE PROBLEM WOULD GO AWAY. THIS WAS INTERMITTENT BETWEEN JUNE 26 - JULY 1. ON JULY 2ND, WE WERE IN SAN FRANCISCO IN BUMPER TO BUMPER TRAFFIC, WHEN THE CAR WOULD PULL AHEAD, PRESSING HARD ON THE BRAKE I COULD BARELY KEEP THE CAR FROM HITTING THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. FINALLY, I MANAGED TO PULL OVER AND PARK. WHEN I TURNED THE ENGINE OFF AND BACK ON AGAIN, IT NO LONGER REVVED UP (3,000 - 4,200 RPM). WE DROVE FOR 45 MINUTES, THEN THE SAME PROBLEM STARTED AGAIN. WE PULLED OVER AND GOT A TOW TO A MECHANIC. THE MECHANIC CHECKED EVERYTHING (INCLUDING THE CRUISE CONTROL CABLE, ACCELERATOR CABLE, AND THROTTLE) HE FOUND INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS WITH (I THINK, IT WAS A LONG SCARY DAY YESTERDAY AND THE CAR IS AT THE MECHANICS WITH THE PAPERWORK) THE THROTTLE (NOT THROTTLE CABLE). I HAD HIM REPLACE THE THROTTLE AND HALFWAY HOME FROM SAN FRANCISCO, IT BEGAN REVVING AND RACING AHEAD, BRAKES WERE APPLIED, BUT WE COULD SMELL THE BRAKE PADS BURNING, WE WERE ABLE TO PULL OFF SAFELY WITHOUT INCIDENT. AFTER ALLOWING THE CAR TO REST FOR ALMOST 2 HOURS, IT WAS STILL REVVING BETWEEN 3,000-4,200 RPM'S, WITH AN INTERMITTENT "THUMP" LURCH. I'M AFRAID TO DRIVE IT, I FEEL LIKE MY LIFE IS IN DANGER IN THIS CAR. *MILEAGE LISTED ABOVE IS APPROXIMATE*
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD TAURUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ENGINE RPMS INCREASED EXCESSIVELY WITHOUT WARNING. IN ADDITION, WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY SURGED FORWARD TO A SPEED OF 70 MPH OR HIGHER. THE CONTACT HAD TO SHIFT THE VEHICLE INTO NEUTRAL AND THEN PARK TO MANEUVER THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL AND THE BRAKE PEDAL TO PREVENT THE FAILURE FROM RECURRING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 74,700.
TRAVELING ON INTERSTATE HIGHWAY AT 70MPH. SUDDENLY THE TRANSMISSION GEARS DISENGAGE AND THERE IS NO MORE ACCELERATION. I COAST TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. ENGINE IS RUNNING, BUT THE VEHICLE WILL NOT MOVE WHEN SHIFTED IN ANY GEAR (FORWARD OR REVERSE). TOWED TO NEAREST FORD DEALERSHIP. THEY SUSPECT TORQUE CONVERTER AND/OR FULL TRANSMISSION FAILURE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD TAURUS. WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED AND REMAINED STUCK CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO ACCELERATE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE AND WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 140,000.
MY DAUGHTER-IN-LAW WAS USING THE CAR GOING APPROX. 30MPH, WHEN SHE ATTEMPTED TO BREAK, BUT THE CAR WOULD NOT SLOW DOWN AND THE ACCELERATION REMAINED CONSTANT (THERE WAS NO DECELERATION UNTIL THE RPMS RANDOMLY LOWERED AFTER FLOORING THE BREAKS FOR A CONSIDERABLE PERIOD OF TIME) ALMOST CAUSING AN ACCIDENT WITH THE CAR IN FRONT. I THEN HAD THE CAR CHECKED OUT AND RECEIVED THROTTLE BODY WORK, TOTALING APPROX $450.00 INCLUDING LABOR. THE CONDITION OF THE CAR HAD NOT CHANGED, UPON ARRIVING AT MY HOME THERE WAS A STRONG SMELL OF BURNT RUBBER AND SMOKE RISING FROM THE FRONT RIGHT HOOD OF THE CAR. I THEN CONTACTED FORD AND WAS TOLD TO GET AN APPOINTMENT WITH A LOCAL DEALERSHIP. *TR
WAS HEADING HOME FROM FISHING TO HAVE EASTER DINNER WITH THE FAMILY I WAS IN THE RIGHT LANE GOING TO PASS A TRUCK ON THE EXPRESS WAY TO THE LEFT LANE, WHEN I WENT TO GIVE IT GAS TO GO AROUND HIM, I GOT NOTHING LIKE THE CAR WAS IN NEUTRAL, RPMS WENT UP AND I STARTED SLOWING DOWN .NO NOISE NO NOTHING SO I SAT ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD FOR 2 HOURS WAITING FOR A TOW TO GET IT HOME. SINCE IT WAS EASTER SUNDAY I HAD NO WHERE TO TOW IT TOO. I'VE BEEN DOING SOME RESEARCH AND LOOKS LIKE A TORQUE CONVERTER NOT 100 PERCENT SURE UNTIL I DIG INTO IT. BUT I DID BUY THIS CAR USED AND HAVE NOT HAD A PROBLEM IN 2 YEARS, GOT THE EXTENDED WARRANTY AND WHAT DO YOU KNOW I WAS 1600 MILES OVER THE LIMIT SO NO WARRANTY. I'M DAM WELL NOT GOING TO PAY FOR THIS AND ILL BE CALLING THE FINANCE COMPANY TO COME GET IT STILL MAKING PAYMENTS, CAUSE IF IT GOING TO COST ME 1800 TO FIX IT, NO WAY CARS ONLY WORTH 2500. *TR

ACCELERATED ON ITS OWN. REACHED A SPEED OF 60 MPH ON BUSY HIGHWAY. WAS UNABLE TO BRAKE BUT WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER AND PUT THE CAR IN PARK. AFTER LOOKING UNDER THE HOOD, NOTICED THE CRUISE CONTROL CABLE HAD COME OFF. ALMOST HAD A COLLISION. VERY DANGEROUS!

THE CONTACT HAD TO ENGAGE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE IN ORDER TO BRING THE VEHICLE TO A COMPLETE STOP. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE THROTTLE NEEDED REPLACEMENT. THE VEHICLE WAS IN THE PROCESS OF BEING REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 87,000.
VEHICLE CAME TO A STOP, THEN LOST ALL DRIVE AND REVERSE. NO WARNING OR NOISES DETECTED. POSSIBLE PROBLEM MIGHT BE STRIPED SPLINES IN TORQUE CONVERTER OF TRANSMISSION. WHEN THIS HAPPENS ALL PUMP PRESSURE IS LOST AND THE TRANSMISSION WILL APPEAR TO BE IN NEUTRAL. FROM WHAT I HAVE HEARD THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS TRANSMISSION. *TR
MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD GOING 35 MPH, WHEN THERE WAS SUDDEN ACCELERATION AND THE PEDAL GOT STUCK. THE ENGINE WAS AT ABOUT 4,000 RPM. THERE WAS NO TRAFFIC, SO SHE WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER AND SHUT THE CAR OFF, HOWEVER, IT WAS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT FOR HER TO BRAKE. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED, AND WE RECENTLY HAD THE TRANSMISSION AND THE ACCELERATOR WIRING REPLACED. *TR
DRY ROT IS SHOWING IN BETWEEN THE TREAD OF ALL 4 TIRES. THE TIRES WERE PURCHASED NEW FROM SAM'S CLUB. TOURING T/A DOT (AP5M) (A721) (0212). THERE IS 8/32 OF THE TREAD REMAINING, MEASURED BY SAM'S. I HAVE HAD THE TIRES ROTATED EVERY 4500 MILES. I ASKED ABOUT THE DRY ROT AND THE MANAGER TOLD ME THAT I WASH THE CAR TOO MUCH. THE MANUFACTURER AND SAM'S WILL NOT WORK WITH ME TO REMOVE THE DANGER OF A BLOW OUT ON THESE TIRES. THEY NEED TO BE RECALLED AS UNSAFE.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE CRUISE CONTROL CABLE BECAME DISCONNECTED FROM THE THROTTLE LINKAGE WHICH LOCKED THE SPEEDOMETER AT 55 MPH. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 196,560.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD TAURUS. WHILE DRIVING AT 40 MPH, THE CHECK TRANSMISSION WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE VEHICLE HESITATED TO STOP. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THERE WAS TRANSMISSION FAILURE. THE VEHICLE TRANSMISSION MODULE WAS REPROGRAMMED HOWEVER THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 169,904.
THE GAS PEDAL WAS STUCK AND I COULD NOT SLOW DOWN, I PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL AND STEPPED ON THE GAS PEDAL HARD AND THE RPMS LOWERED AND I COULD DRIVE NORMAL AGAIN, I DID A SEARCH ON THE INTERNET AND THE SPEED CONTROL CABLE IS THE CAUSE, SURE ENOUGH I LOOKED UNDER THE HOOD AFTER MY SEARCH AND IT WAS DISCONNECTED AND WAS INTERFERING WITH THE THROTTLE. *TR
WAS AT STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT, WHEN IT TURNED GREEN PROCEEDED THROUGH THE INTERSECTION WHEN MY CAR SUDDENLY DOWN-SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL WITHOUT ANY WARNING. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT HAD COME ON, BUT NO NOISES OR ANY OTHER MECHANICAL INDICATION. THE CAR BEHIND ME HAD TO SWERVE AROUND QUICKLY TO AVOID HITTING ME. I HAD TO PUT THE CAR IN PARK, AND TURN OFF, AND RESTART TO GAIN MY DRIVE ABILITY BACK. AFTER THAT I WOULD NOT DRIVE THE CAR, FOR SAFETY OF MYSELF AND CHILDREN. MY HUSBAND TEST DROVE IT AFTER DOING SOME BASIC TRANSMISSION SERVICES, BUT THE PROBLEM PERSISTED. HE NOW BELIEVES THAT IT IS THE TORQUE CONVERTER, WHICH AFTER MUCH RESEARCH IS HIGHLY COMMON WITH THIS MAKE AND MODEL. THIS IS A COSTLY REPAIR, AND AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS ISSUE, THAT SEEMS TO BE OCCURRING FREQUENTLY AMONG OWNERS OF THIS MAKE AND MODEL. IM IN DISBELIEF THAT FORD HASN'T BEEN INVESTIGATED FOR TRANSMISSION ISSUES BY NOW, AFTER THE HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS MADE ABOUT THIS EXACT ISSUE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD TAURUS. WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED INDEPENDENTLY TO 60 MPH. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD BY SHIFTING INTO NEUTRAL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDED TO BE CLEANED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 91,000.
WHEN IT IS COLD OUT AND YOU TRY TO CLOSE THE DRIVERS DOOR IT WILL NOT LATCH. THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES OVER THE PAST MONTH. THE DANGER IN THIS IS THAT IF YOU DO NOT REALIZE THAT THE DOOR DID NOT LATCH WHEN YOU CLOSED IT THEN IT COULD OPEN WHILE YOU ARE DRIVING IT. I HAVE 2 FORD TAURUS'S FROM THIS SAME YEAR. MY OTHER ONE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AND THE LATCH ENDED UP BEING REPLACED IN THAT ONE. THIS HAPPENED ON 3 SEPARATE OCCASIONS WHEN SLOWING TO STOP FOR A LIGHT OR BECAUSE OF TRAFFIC. THE ENGINE WOULD REV AND FEEL LIKE IT WAS PUTTING OUT MORE POWER THAN IT SHOULD. IF I HAD BAD BRAKES, I WOULD DEFINITELY HAVE HIT SOMEONE. I WOULD EITHER SHIFT THE CAR INTO NEUTRAL OR PARK AND THE RPMS WOULD SHOOT UP TO 4. I HAD TO PUMP THE GAS A FEW TIMES TO GET IT TO RETURN TO NORMAL. I TOOK IT TO A REPAIR SHOP AND THEY DIAGNOSED IT AS A FAULTY IDLE SPEED MOTOR THAT WAS STICKING AND CAUSING THE THROTTLE TO BE STUCK WIDE OPEN. *TR
I HAVE A 05 FORD TAURUS WITH THE SAME EXACT SYMPTOMS AS THE PREVIOUS YEAR TAURUS HAD WICH LEAD TO A RECALL. MY CRUISE CONTROL CABLE WILL COME OFF THE THROTTLE BODY HOLDING THE THROTTLE OPEN AND REVVING AT 4 GRAND WHEN PIT IN NEUTRAL TO RESOLVE THE ISSUE. I WAS STOPPED AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT AND AS I BEGAN TO MOVE OFF TO MAKE A RIGHT HAND TURN THE CAR IMMEDIATELY BEGAN TO PICK UP SPED WITHOUT ME PUSHING DOWN ON THE ACCELERATOR. ON THE AFTERNOON OF 10/08/2014, OWNER'S SPOUSE WAS OPERATING SAID VEHICLE ON A COUNTRY ROAD. SHE HAD JUST STOPPED AT A STOP SIGN, ACCELERATED AND TURNED ONTO A STATE HIGHWAY. WHEN THE VEHICLE REACHED APPROXIMATELY 40MPH, VEHICLE BEGAN QUICKLY ACCELERATING ON IT'S OWN. CAR REACHED 80MPH. IN A PANIC, DRIVER DIDN'T KNOW WHAT TO DO, SO SHE PRESSED ON THE BRAKES AS HARD AS SHE COULD BUT COULD ONLY GET THE VEHICLE TO SLOW TO APPROXIMATELY 40MPH. DRIVER MADE A QUICK DECISION AND TURNED INTO A DRIVEWAY, SHUT VEHICLE OFF AND PUT IT IN PARK. DRIVER CALLED HUSBAND. HUSBAND TOLD DRIVER TO TURN ON CAR. CAR REVVED UP TO APPROXIMATELY 5000RPM. HUSBAND TOLD DRIVER TO PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL AND PUNCH ON THE ACCELERATOR A COUPLE OF TIMES. THIS BROUGHT RPM BACK TO NORMAL. 2005 FORD TAURUS SE CLEANED AND INSPECTED. RIGHT FRONT PASSENGER SIDE CARPETING FOUND WET WITH MOLD UNDERNEATH FLOOR-MAT. INTERIOR CARPETING PULLED BACK REVEALED THOROUGHLY SOAKED CARPETING AND CARPET MAT/INSULATION. INSULATION DESTROYED FROM THE WATER AND MOLD. FLOORBOARDS FOUND TO BE SOLID AND IN GOOD CONDITION. MINOR SURFACE RUST APPEARING ON FLOORBOARDS FROM THE EXCESSIVE MOISTURE TRAPPED UNDER THE CARPETING. WATER SOURCE FOUND TO BE ENTERING THE CABIN AT THE FIREWALL WHERE THE AC EVAPORATOR DRAIN TUBE EXITS THE VEHICLE. EVAPORATOR DRAIN DOES NOT APPEAR CLOGGED. THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THE FORD TAURUS FROM MODEL YEARS 1995-2007. RECOMMEND RECALL. *TR
ON WEDNESDAY, JULY 16, 2014, I WAS DRIVING ON US HWY 206 IN FLANDERS, NJ, WHEN MY CAR STOPPED RESPONDING TO THE ACCELERATOR. THE ENGINE WAS RUNNING, BUT PRESSING DOWN ON THE GAS PEDAL DID NOTHING. I QUICKLY MANEUVERED THE CAR TO THE SHOULDER, ALMOST CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. THE CAR WOULDN'T MOVE IN ANY GEAR, EVEN REVERSE, HOWEVER, NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH THE ENGINE AS IT WAS STILL RUNNING. I WAS TOWED HOME AND RESEARCH THE PROBLEM. APPARENTLY, THIS HAS HAPPENED TO MANY OTHER FORD TAURUS OWNERS WHEN THE SPLINES ON THE TORQUE CONVERTER FAIL, RENDERING THE TRANSMISSION INOPERABLE AND THE CAR SUDDENLY UNRESPONSIVE WHEN PRESSING ON THE ACCELERATOR. I'M LUCKY I WASN'T HIT FROM BEHIND ON THE HIGHWAY. THIS IS A DANGEROUS SITUATION THAT SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED. A RECALL SHOULD BE ISSUED TO ADDRESS THIS PROBLEM AND REPLACE THE FAULTY TORQUE CONVERTER. ON JULY 8, 2014, FORD ISSUED A RECALL FOR THE FORD TAURUS, AND OTHER MODELS, FOR THE SAME PROBLEM, BUT MY YEAR WASN'T PART OF THE RECALL. WHY? IN JANUARY 2012, FORD ISSUED A RECALL FOR FAULTY TORQUE CONVERTERS FOR 450K SUVS AND VANS. BUT THE TAURUS WASN'T, AGAIN, WHY? ARE THE LIVES OF TAURUS OWNERS WORTH ANY LESS THAN SUV/MINIVAN OWNERS? *TR

THE PROBLEM IS SUDDEN ACCELERATION FOR NO APPARENT REASON. THE FIRST TIME WAS STARTING FROM A STOP SIGN AND THE SPEED CONTINUED TO INCREASE HAVE RELEASING THE ACCELERATOR. IT CONTINUED UNTIL THE CAR WAS PUT INTO NEUTRAL TAPPING THE ACCELERATOR WHICH CAUSED THE RPM TO RETURN TO IDLE SPEED. THE SUDDEN ACCELERATION HAS OCCURRED SEVERAL TIMES IN THE PAST TWO WEEK WITH INCREASING INTERVALS. THE START OF THE SUDDEN ACCELERATION HAS BEGAN ANYWHERE FROM 5 MPH TO 60 MPH. SHIFTING TO NEUTRAL AND TAPPING THE ACCELERATOR HAS ALWAYS RETURNED THE ENGINE TO IDLE SPEED. *TR
WHILE DRIVING ON FREEWAY I REALIZED CAR WAS GOING 70 MPH WITH MY FOOT COMPLETELY OFF THE GAS PEDAL. I THOUGHT MAYBE THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS ON. I PUMPED THE BRAKES SEVERAL TIMES WHICH SLOWED THE CAR DOWN BUT THE CAR WOULD SPEED BACK UP TO 70 WITH OUT ME TOUCHING THE GAS PEDAL. I PUT MY RIGHT FOOT UNDERNEATH THE GAS PEDAL AND LIFTED IT WITH MY FOOT IN CASE IT WAS STUCK BUT THAT DIDN'T MAKE ANY DIFFERENCE. I EXITED THE HIGHWAY READY TO SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL BUT THE BREAKS SLOWED THE CAR TO A HALT. AT THE STOPLIGHT I BEGAN TO RELEASE THE BREAK AND THE CAR STARTED TO GO AGAIN WITH OUT ME TOUCHING THE GAS. WE PULLED OVER AND PARKED THE CAR AND TURNED IT OFF. FOR SOME REASON THIS FIXED THE PROBLEM. MY 3 KIDS WERE IN THE CAR WITH ME AND I DISCUSSED ALL OF THIS WITH THEM AS IT WAS OCCURRING .
