The glass was replaced at the residence by Delhi Glass Repair mobile technician. Additionally, the contact stated while reversing, she noticed that the rear windshield was cracked at the center. The dealer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a case was filed. The manufacturer referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 65,000.
ABOUT HALF THE TIME, WHEN WINDSHIELD WIPERS ARE TURNED ON, THEY WILL NOT SHUT OFF. I HAVEN'T EXPERIENCED THEM TURNING ON SUDDENLY AS I DRIVE. THEY STAY ON WHEN I TURN THEM ON. THE HEADLIGHTS STAY ON AS WELL. EVEN WHEN TURNING LIGHTS OFF, THE WIPERS REMAIN. THIS CAUSES THEM TO BE ON WHILE IT'S DRY RESULTING IN A DRAGGING WIPE AND NOISE. IT CAN ALSO CAUSE A MINOR SMUDGE. I'VE HAD THE CAR SINCE JUNE 2016 AND THIS HAS ALWAYS BEEN AN ISSUE. TO TURN THEM ON CAUSES HESITATION AS THEY MAY NOT TURN OFF ANY TIME SOON. I'VE RESTARTED THE CAR A FEW TIMES AND MY EXPERIENCE IS TO WAIT IT OUT AFTER A COUPLE DAYS. A BRIEF LOOK ONLINE SHOWS VARIOUS FORD CARS AND TRUCKS HAVE THIS ISSUE.
WAS DRIVING MY 2014 FORD TAURUS, SLOWED DOWN TO MERGE FROM ONE INTERSTATE TO ANOTHER WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN, THERE IS LOUD BOOM OVER MY HEAD LIKE A BOLDER HAS HIT THE TOP OF MY CAR. DIDN'T SEE ANYONE AROUND ON FOOT. NOTHING BOUNCED OFF MY CAR. NO ONE AROUND ME PULLED OFF TO SIDE LIKE THEY WERE HIT IN CASE SOMETHING DID BOUNCE OFF. AFTER A FEW SECONDS, I HEAR THIS CRACKLING ALL AROUND MY ROOF. I PULL THE INSIDE COVER BACK AND SEE MY GLASS IS COMPLETELY SHATTERED AND PIECES ARE MISSING OUT. GLASS IS POINTING UP, LIKE WHAT HAPPENED CAME FROM INSIDE THE CAR NOT OUTSIDE. I THOUGHT AT FIRST MAYBE A ROCK HAD HIT IT BUT THERE WAS NO EVIDENCE OF THAT. DON'T KNOW WHAT TO MAKE OF THIS...MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP IS SAYING OF COURSE THEY'VE NEVER HEARD OF THIS PROBLEM....I DO HAVE A PICTURE. *TR
FORD NEEDS TO INVESTIGATE THE DURABILITY OF THE FRONT WINDSHIELD ON THE 2014 MODEL TAURUS. I OWN TWO 2014 TAURUS AND WITHIN THE FIRST 6MONTHS OF OWNERSHIP, I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE WINDSHIELDS ON BOTH VEHICLES. BOTH VEHS WERE HIT IN THE SAME SPOT OPPOSITE SIDES WITH A ROCK AND A CRACKED FORMED FROM ONE SIDE TO OTHER WITHIN 4HRS OF THE INCIDENT. EACH TIME WE WERE TRAVELING NO MORE THAT 40/45 MPH DUE TO MODERATE TRAFFIC. BOTH WINDSHIELDS COSTING ME $600 OUT OF POCKET. I HAVE OWNED OTHER MODEL FORD VEHICLES(07 FORD 500 AND 1998 EXPLORER) THAT HAVE WITHSTOOD PLENTY OF ROCKS AT THE WINDSHIELD AND NOT ONE CHIP OR CRACK. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 FORD TAURUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, HIS VISION BECAME DISTORTED WHEN LOOKING THROUGH THE WINDSHIELD. AS A RESULT, HIS VIEW OF STREET SIGNS WAS UNFOCUSED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING, WHO REPLACED THE WINDSHIELD, HOWEVER THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90.
