When the transmission is in reverse, the stock rearview camera view intermittently completely fails to display in the rearview mirror, is displayed upside-down, is distorted and/or discolored. It is failing more often than it is working correctly.
The contact owns a 2015 Ford Transit. The contact stated that while driving 45 MPH, the vehicle failed to stop upon depression of the brake pedal without warning. The contact was forced to use the parking brake to stop the vehicle. Due to the failure, the contact initially had the vehicle towed to an independent mechanic where they diagnosed the vehicle with a defective driveshaft which was linked to NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V767000 (Power Train). The vehicle was then towed to the dealer where they confirmed the failure but informed the contact that the recall repair had to wait for an approval from the manufacturer. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but offered no additional assistance. The vehicle was not repaired and remained in the possession of the dealer. The failure mileage was approximately 55,000.
The contact owns a 2015 Ford Transit. The contact stated that while her husband was driving 20-40 MPH, the vehicle started shaking. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The driver began to depress the accelerator pedal and after exceeding 45 MPH, the vehicle stopped shaking. The contact took the vehicle to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed with needing all four tires to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but continued to experience the failure. The contact took the vehicle to an independent mechanic and was informed that the torsional damper kit needed to be replaced. The vehicle was being repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.
There are actually two problems that I'm experiencing repeatedly and have almost since the van was new: The lug nuts on the wheels loosen almost constantly. I have to keep a tire iron in the van at all times because I never know when a wheel will start to work loose. This happens when the wheels are torqued to Ford specs. The other problem is the wheel studs breaking off. I've probably had something like 10-12 or more shear off in the 6 years that I've had the van. This van is not used for heavy loads. It carries laundry and a typical load is almost always under 1,000 lbs. It is also not driven hard. My mechanic is baffled by both issues.
The Van looses all power. This has happened 4 times. The display will appear brake boost failure or engine failure. We were driving on the 60 fwy in the number one lane when this happened last. My husband was able maneuver to shoulder without causing an accident.
The contact owns a 2015 Ford Transit. The contact stated while driving 20-40 MPH the vehicle started shaking uncontrollably. The contact accelerated and as the vehicle stopped shaking. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the contact was informed that the carrier bearing needed to be replaced and that the vehicle was not under recall. The contact was advised to contact the manufacturer for assistance. The manufacturer was contacted and stated that the vehicle was not under recall and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was 70,000.
THE DRIVESHAFT SEPARATED, I LOST MOTIVE POWER WHILE DRIVING, AND THE TRANSMISSION DID NOT HOLD THE VEHICLE IN PARK CREATING THE RISK OF UNINTENDED VEHICLE MOVEMENT. IN ADDITION, THE SEPARATED DRIVESHAFT DAMAGED SURROUNDING COMPONENTS, INCLUDING BRAKE AND FUEL LINES. HAPPENED ON THE HIGHWAY TRAVELLING AT ABOUT 50 MPH. I AM LUCKY THAT THE ROAD WAS PRETTY EMPTY AND NO ONE WAS HURT. I'VE BEEN TRYING TO GET THAT RECALL FIXED FOR THE LONGEST TIME BUT IT'S ON NATIONAL BACKORDER AND FORD FOES NOT EVEN KNOW WHEN AND IF THEY WILL BE AVAILABLE. FORD REFUSES TO EVEN GIVE ME A REPLACEMENT VEHICLE OR REIMBURSEMENT FOR A RENTAL.
Exhaust manifold faulty
The contact owns a 2015 Ford Transit. The contact stated that he noticed a leak underneath the vehicle on the driver’s side near the engine. The contact inspected the underside of the vehicle and discovered that support near the engine was completely rusted through. The contact drove the vehicle to the local dealer for an oil change, where the vehicle was inspected and found that the rusted support needed to be replaced. The dealer advised the contact that the vehicle was unsafe to drive. The vehicle was not repaired but was pending repairs. The manufacturer had been informed by the dealer and by the contact of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 140,000.
On Jan.17th, 2022,the Driveshaft Flexible Coupling separated at Highway speed, taking out my Fuel Lines and severely damaging the Transmission and other under-body components. (Safety Recall Notice 19S38 / NHTSA Recall 19V-767) On May 19th, 2022, I received my 1st phone call from Todd-Judy Ford, Marmet, SC. w/Service Estimate for $5,725.75 of repairs he claimed necessary that would NOT BE COVERED BY FORD. , I know the guy was trying to pad the bill. I told him to talk to Ford Pro. On July,25th, 2022 Todd-Judy Ford called to inform me that my Van was “ready to go,” “completely fixed” I left Sept. 9th, 2022 driving over 500 miles, to Todd-Judy Ford. Once there they started telling me about all the new parts they put into my Van, saying “You’ve got a “New Transmission,” at which point I interrupted him, saying that I knew it was a New Transmission “Case,” not a “New Transmission.” He then proceeded to explain that when they got the “New Case”, the Trans. Tech. inspects all the parts from my Trans., replacing anything it needs, while re-assembling into the “New Case.” He claims that it’s a “Rebuilt” Transmission! So, I ask, “Is there a Warranty on it, then?” To which he replies “Yes there is!” I looked at the paperwork and saw quite a few parts listed as used, which are obviously Transmission Components. I also see “Rebuilt Transmission” listed twice as Corrections! My Van had a "Dead Battery" and a "massive exhaust leak". On Nov. 17th, 2022, just 51 days after picking up my Van, the Transmission failed! Towed to Rock-Hill Ford SC. It threw a Code of P0731, which is “Gear 1 Incorrect Ratio.” Multiple teeth from a gear sheared off. Ford Pro (Customer Service) then said “We can’t offer you any “Financial Assistance” on this repair. She said something else, about not having any other “Programs” to offer. I had never asked for Financial Assistance! I asked for the Transmission to be repaired under the Warranty from 51 day previous! Rock Hill Ford wants $9,806.09.
The contact owns a 2015 Ford Transit. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the check engine warning light illuminated, and the vehicle lost motive power. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed with a fractured front windshield cowl. In addition, rainwater was entering the engine compartment due to the fractured windshield cowl. The vehicle was diagnosed with a failed fuel rail. The contact was informed that the fuel rail needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where it was diagnosed with a failed fuel system, failed fuel injector, and a failed glow plug. The contact was informed that the fuel system, fuel injector, and glow plug needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure reoccurred. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or the dealer. The contact researched Technical Service Bulletin: 19-2091. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000.
We repaired brakes on this vehicle that is owned by one of our customers business. When you replace rear brake rotors on these vans the caliper bracket mounting bolts and the bolts that hold the rotors to the axle and the differential must be replaced. They are torque to yield bolts and only one use is permitted. We have several vehicle in fleets that we work on that have these same vans. We had always used the Ford replacement bolts and had no issues. NAPA started stocking a Dorman supplied bolts for the rotors to be attached. The part number for the NAPA parts are 92601271. The bolts sheared off on the right rear and allowed the right rear tire and wheel to come out of the rear axle housing. The repair was done on 3-24-21 at 66644 miles and the failure occurred 10-7-21 at 76263. The Ford number for these bolts is W716084-S439. The head markings for the Ford ones are SPF 10.9 and the Dorman ones are 322 10.9.
Dealer has been unable to obtain driveline coupler parts from Ford for over a month at this point.
The contact's husband owns a 2015 Ford Transit. The contact's husband received a recall notice for NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V767000 (Power Train). The vehicle was taken to the dealer and repaired under recall. The contact then stated that while her husband was driving at various speeds, the vehicle would vibrate without warning. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where they requested to keep the vehicle for inspection. The contact also had attempted to reach the manufacturer but had no success. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 55,000.

The contact owns a 2015 Ford Transit. The contact stated that while his son was driving 65 MPH, he heard an abnormal noise and had to depress the brake pedal to the floor to stop the vehicle. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was not drivable. The vehicle was towed first to his son's employer and then to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed with needing the transmission to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The VIN was included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V767000 (Power Train). The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 374,000.
The contact owns a 2015 Ford Transit. The contact stated that while driving 81 MPH, the vehicle loss motive power without warning and almost caused a collision. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic and diagnosed that the driveshaft had separated and damaged the transmission, emission system, the brakes and fuel lines. Upon investigating, the contact's wife related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V767000 (Power Train) which was associated with the VIN. The dealer was made aware of the failure and the dealer notified the manufacturer of the failure. The manufacturer informed the dealer to not perform the recall repair since the vehicle was over the 100,000 miles warranty. The vehicle was not repaired and remained at the independent mechanic. The failure mileage was 243,839.
Exhaust manifold studs failed and exhaust both manifolds warped at appropriately 85,000 miles. The repair estimate is over $4,000.00.
Failure and stall occurred 8-9-21. Throttle body internal fault. A Ford dealer in Aurora, Colorado diagnosed, has the vehicle, and the defective part. I don't know if they will hold on to it for inspection. My vehicle stalled while driving on a busy road and lost power. The warning message said something to the effect of "terminal engine failure, requires service" I was lucky enough to get my vehicle to the side of the road in heavy traffic, but it was stalled in a precarious spot and the vehicle did in fact get hit while I waited for the tow truck. I was worried for my safety, so I was waiting off of the road about 15 feet from my vehicle rather than in it. This is a potentially life-threatening issue. Had I been on a highway in heavy traffic, this could have caused a major accident. This appears to be a common issue, so I am not sure why it has no recall at this time. In my opinion, it needs one for the safety of the vehicle owners and those around them in traffic.
I was driving in my neighborhood about 20mph and the spare tire fell off the truck near pedestrians walking on side of road. At that point i had under 50000mi on vehicle and only 5 1/2 years old. Lucky not on highway with a motorcycle or car behind me. That could have resulted in a major accident.
WHILE DRIVING MY 2015 FORD TRANSIT 250 3.5 ON THE INTERSTATE THE VAN LOST POWER AND NEARLY GOT MY KILLED WHILE TRYING TO NAVIGATE OFF THE ROAD WITHOUT POWER. THE THROTTLE BODY CODE WAS THROWN ON THE CPU, AND I WAS TOLD BY THE MECHANIC THAT THESE NEED TO BE REPLACED WAY MORE THAN NORMAL WITH THESE FORDS. IT'S A HAZARD TO SHUT THE VEHICLE DOWN WITHOUT WARNING! AND THE REPLACEMENT PART IS STILL FAULTY. THE THROTTLE BODIES NEED TO BE RECALLED.
VAN WILL MAKE A VIBRATING NOISE THAT IS NOT FELT THROUGH THE STEERING WHEEL OR PEDALS AT APPROXIMATELY 45MPH. IT WILL AGAIN AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS 65+MPH WHEN THE VEHICLE IS SHIFTING IN AND OUT OF OVERDRIVE MAKE THE SAME AUDIBLE VIBRATION. LOCAL FORD DEALER ATTRIBUTED THIS TO A MANUFACTURER RECALL OF THE DRIVE SHAFT. DRIVESHAFT HAS BEEN REPLACED OR WORKED ON AT THREE DIFFERENT POINTS OF TIME OVER THE LAST SEVERAL YEARS. PROBLEM HAS NEVER BEEN FIXED. CURRENTLY AS OF 5-14-21 FORD DEALER HAS IDENTIFIED THE PROBLEM TO BE THE TORQUE CONVERTER AT THE EXPENSE OF $4,000.
TORQUE CONVERTER FAILED, REQUIRING REPLACEMENT AT 75,942 MILES. DUE TO A VEHICLE DESIGN THAT ALLOWS POOLING OF WATER & RUSTING IN THE CONTROL ARM ATTACHMENT BOLTS, BOTH CONTROL ARMS HAD TO BE REPLACED DURING THE TORQUE CONVERTER REPAIR.
THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 FORD TRANSIT. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE MADE A LOUD KNOCKING SOUND WHILE CHANGING GEARS. ADDITIONALLY, WHILE ATTEMPTING TO SHIFT TO FOUR GEAR, THE VEHICLE INSTEAD SHIFTED INTO FIFTH GEAR INADVERTENTLY. THERE WAS NO WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN REPAIRED TWO MONTHS PRIOR UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 19V767000 (POWER TRAIN) AT PINES FORD (8655 PINES BLVD, PEMBROKE PINES, FL 33024). THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 116,127.
FOLLOW-UP TO PRIOR PROBLEM REPORT ON THIS VIN. AFTER 24 HRS WITH BATTERY DISCONNECTED, I RECONNECTED BATTERY. PRIOR PROBLEM DID NOT REPRODUCE AND VEHICLE APPEARED TO POWER-UP NORMALLY. I USED THE KEY TO SUCCESSFULLY START AND RUN THE ENGINE. BUT THERE WERE NO INSTRUMENT READINGS, TACHOMETER READ ZERO. I MOVED THE KEY BACK TO THE OFF POSITION, BUT THE ENGINE CONTINUED TO RUN. THE ONLY WAY TO KILL THE ENGINE WAS TO DISCONNECT THE BATTERY CABLE. THAT MEANS THE DEFECTIVE MODULE IS NOT FAILING SAFE.
A CONTROL MODULE BEGAN MALFUNCTIONING BY FIRST CAUSING THE HEADLIGHTS TO COME ON SPONTANEOUSLY. THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED (AT HOME), HEADLIGHT SWITCH OFF, NO KEY IN IGNITION. AFTER REMOVING THE BATTERY NEGATIVE CABLE, ANY ATTEMPT TO RECONNECT THE BATTERY CAUSES THE STARTER MOTOR TO SPONTANEOUSLY ENERGIZE AND THE ENGINE TO START RUNNING, AGAIN WITH NO KEY IN THE IGNITION. I AM ABLE TO ALWAYS REPRODUCE THIS MALFUNCTION. I IMMEDIATELY DISCONNECT THE BATTERY EACH TIME, AS I CONSIDER THIS MALFUNCTION TO BE POTENTIALLY HAZARDOUS, AND I CANNOT PREDICT WHAT FURTHER MALFUNCTION MIGHT ENSUE. I ACQUIRED THIS VEHICLE USED ~12 MONTHS AGO, AND IT HAS RUN NORMALLY UNTIL NOW. CURRENT MILEAGE ~81,700. THERE HAVE BEEN NO MODIFICATIONS TO THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM.
2015 FORD TRANSIT PRESENTS WITH NO START CONDITION LOSE OF FUEL AND CODE P0230 ON FURTHER DIAGNOSIS FOUND ENGINE COMPARTMENT FUSE BOX TO HAVE MULTIPLE FUSE TERMINALS LOOSE FROM THE BOARD. TO BE CLEAR THESE DO NOT APPEAR AS FUSES LOOSE FROM THE TERMINAL THEY GO IN, THIS IS THE TERMINAL SEEMS LOOSE FROM THE CIRCUIT BOARD. EITHER WAY THE EFFECT IS THE SAME, CAUSING THEM TO LOSE POWER INTERMITTENTLY INCLUDING THE FUEL PUMP CREATING A NO START AND OR DIE WHILE DRIVING CONDITION POTENTIALLY CAUSING LOSS OF STEERING. HAVE VIDEO DOCUMENTING THE CONDITION AS WELL AS TWO PICTURES INCLUDED SHOWING VOLTAGE FLUCTUATING..

THE VEHICLE WENT AIR BORNE. THE CONTACT SUFFERED INJURIES TO THE NECK, BACK, AND HEAD. THE FRONT PASSENGER SUFFERED INJURIES TO THE KNEES, HEAD, HIP, NECK, AND BACK. BOTH RECEIVED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE CONTACT ADVISED THAT THE POLICE WAS NOT PRESENT. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO BRIAN TOLIVER FORD (1040 GILMER ST, SULPHUR SPRING, TX 75482, PHONE (877) 800-3241), THE DEALER ADVISED THAT THE PART WAS NOT YET AVAILABLE FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 19V767000 (POWER TRAIN). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 230,000. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT.
THE DIFFERENTIAL HAS FAILED PREMATURELY AT 65000 MILES AFTER TWO DRIVESHAFT COUPLING RECALL REPAIRS

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO FORD SERVICE CENTER - ED KENLEY FORD (1888 N. MAIN ST, LAYTON, UT 84041) TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE TORQUE CONVERTER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE REMAINED AT THE DEALER UNREPAIRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE RETURNED ONCE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 108,415.

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE FAILURE WAS DIAGNOSED AS A FUEL MODULE AND FUEL PUMP THAT NEEDED REPLACEMENT. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE CONTACT STATED HE RECEIVED AN UNKNOWN MANUFACTURER RECALL NOTICE SEVERAL DAYS LATER AND WAS UPSET THAT HE WAS NOT NOTIFIED THAT RECALLS WERE REPAIRED FREE OF CHARGE. THE MANUFACTURE WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT WAS NOT PROVIDED AN EXPLANATION ABOUT THE REIMBURSEMENT POLICY. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 112,760.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN FOR SERVICE UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 19V767000 (POWER TRAIN) TO LEITH FORD (5300 ROLESVILLE RD, WENDELL, NC 27591). THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REPAIR FAILED TO CORRECT THE ISSUE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING, THE VEHICLE WAS MAKING A GROWLING SOUND AND VIBRATED VIOLENTLY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. THE CONTACT CALLED THE SAME DEALER AND INFORMED THEM OF THE FAILURE. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THEY WOULD HAVE TO CHARGE FOR A NEW DIAGNOSTIC TEST TO BE PERFORMED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT YET TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN THREE TIME TO THE SAME DEALER FOR THE SAME REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND PROVIDED A CASE NUMBER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 116,800.
WAS DRIVING TO NEW ORLEANS WHEN I WAS CAUGHT IN A VERY HEAVY RAIN STORM. THE VAN STARTED TO DRIVE ROUGH A DAY LATER. TOOK IT INTO A FORD DEALERSHIP FOR A DRIVESHAFT RECALL AND OIL CHANGE ONLY TO BE TOLD THAT WATER GOT INTO THE HOUSING FOR THE AIR FILTER AND SOAKED THE FILTER. THE WATER THEN MADE IT'S WAY THROUGHOUT THE ENGINE. AFTER, I THEN LEARNED OF FORD ISSUING A TSB THAT WOULD HAVE SAVED MY VAN SHOULD IT OF BEEN A RECALL OR CHECKED BY MY LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP WHEN I HAD PREVIOUS WORK COMPLETED.
WHILE I WAS DRIVING, ALL THE DASHBOARD GAUGES QUIT WORKING AND THE LIGHTS WENT OFF. I WAS DRIVING AT NIGHT SO IT WAS A LITTLE CONCERNING SINCE I COULDN'T SEE ANYTHING ON MY DASHBOARD AND THE SPEEDOMETER WASN'T WORKING. I WAS TOLD THE BODY CONTROL MODULE IS BAD AND AFTER LOOKING AT FORUMS, IT SEEMS THIS IS AN ISSUE AMONGST MANY FORD TRANSIT OWNERS. IT SEEMS UNSAFE THAT THAT CAN HAPPEN WHILE DRIVING. I CHECKED TO SEE IF THERE WAS A RECALL SINCE IT SEEMS SO MANY PEOPLE HAVE AN ISSUE AND LOOKS LIKE THERE ISN'T.
FOR MORE THEN 18 MONTHS I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO GET THE REPAIR/RECALL,(19S38) FROM MY LOCAL DEALER VENTURA FORD. STILL AFTER ALL THIS TIME I HAVE BEEN TOLD 2 EXCUSES SEVERAL TIMES 1.) "THE PARTS ARE NOT AVAILABLE.", AND 2.) "THAT THE REPAIRS WERE ALREADY DONE." I HAVE CALLED THE CUSTOMER SERVICE NUMBER (1-866-436-7332) TWICE THIS MONTH. EACH TIME I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT THE PARTS ARE NOT AVAILABLE
DRIVE SHAFT PROBLEM, VAN VIBRATION AT 60-70 MPH COMING FROM DRIVE SHAFT . LAST DRIVE SHAFT RECALL THEY INSTALLED A SOMETHING THAT LOOKS LIKE WEIGHT PIECE ON THE DIFFERENTIAL , SINCE THAN THE VAN IS RATTLING AT THAT SPEED IN WAVES .

THE CONTACT COASTED THE VEHICLE TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROADWAY, RESTARTED THE VEHICLE HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO OPERATE AS DESIGNED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT THEN TOWED THE VEHICLE TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THE VEHICLE AND DETERMINED THAT THE DRIVE SHAFT SEPARATED AND CAUSED DAMAGE TO TRANSMISSION. ON OR ABOUT 4/8/2020 MY AMBULETTE WITH A PASSENGER COMPLETELY STALLED. IT WAS TOWED TO OUR NYS DOT SHOP IN WESTBURY THAT REGULATES AMBULETTES. THIS VEHICLE , A 2015 FORD TRANSIT 150 IS SUPPOSED TO CIRCULATE TRANSMISSION FLUID COMING FROM TRANSMISSION AND COOLANT FROM THE RADIATOR AT THE SAME TIME. COOLANT CIRCULATION IS SUPPOSED TO COOL TRANSMISSION FLUID WITHOUT BEING MIXED. WHEN THE SERVICE IS COMPROMISED AND MIXES TOGETHER, IT WILL CONTAMINATE BOTH FLUIDS-COOLANT IN THE TRANSMISSION.TRANSMISSION FLUID,COOLING SYSTEM(RADIATOR AND THERMOSTAT). COOLANT FROM THE RADIATOR WILL T TO WATER PUMP AND COOL OFF AND ENGINE -OVERHEATING PROCESS AND ENGINE CHANGE. THE EARLIER THE CONTAMINATION PROCESS IS STOPPED, THE HIGHER THE CHANCE THE TRANSMISSION AND ENGINE WILL UNDERGO FROM A COMPLETE SHUTDOWN

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO GARY CROSSLEY FORD LOCATED AT (8050 N CHURCH RD, KANSAS CITY, MO 64158), TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE FUEL PUMP, FUEL PUMP AND LOW PRESSURE FUEL SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE CONTACT RESTARTED THE VEHICLE AND DROVE THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED BY THE MECHANIC THAT THERE WAS METAL BITS INSIDE THE FUEL SYSTEM AND THE FUEL INJECTOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 16V618000 (FUEL SYSTEM, DIESEL, ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING) AS A POSSIBLE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR INTAKE WAS MOUNTED ON THE VEHICLE IN A WAY THAT ALLOWED WATER TO GET INSIDE AND RUST OUT THE BOLTS THAT SECURED THE AIR INTAKE IN PLACE. AS A RESULT, ANTI-FREEZE WOULD LEAK AND POSSIBLY CAUSE A FIRE. THE VEHICLE WAS LOSING ANTI-FREEZE AND THE TOP OF THE ENGINE WAS SMOKING WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION. THE BOLTS HAD COMPLETELY RUSTED AND THE WATER FROZE WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED. WHEN THE ICE MELTED AND THE ENGINE WARMED UP FROM DRIVING, A FIRE NEARLY OCCURRED. THE CONTACT SAW SMOKE, PULLED OVER, AND OPENED THE HOOD. THE CONTACT HAD TO CALL TO HAVE MORE ANTI-FREEZE DELIVERED TO REFILL THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO GARNET FORD (1610 WILMINGTON PIKE, WEST CHESTER, PA 19382 (610) 358-5600) WHERE IT WAS IN THE PROCESS OF BEING DIAGNOSED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CALLED AND TRANSFERRED THE CONTACT TO NHTSA. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 122,000.
THE VEHICLE STALLED UPON BACKING OUT OF A STEEP DRIVEWAY & TURNING TO THE LEFT. IT WOULD NOT RESTART. THE VAN HAD BEEN PARKED, AT A CUSTOMERS' HOME ALL DAY. HEAVY SNOW BEGAN FALLING A COUPLE OF HOURS BEFORE THE VAN WAS STARTED & WARMED UP TO MELT THE SNOW FROM THE WINDSHIELD. WHEN THE VAN STALLED, IT WAS BROADSIDE TO THE STREET, BLOCKING BOTH OPPOSING LANES OF TRAVEL AS THE HEAVY SNOW INCREASED IN INTENSITY. THE VAN WAS VIRTUALLY IMPOSSIBLE TO PUSH OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, DUE TO THE QUICKLY ACCUMULATING SNOW, INITIALLY PREVENTING A PLOW & POLICE CRUISER FROM PASSING. AAA TOWING WAS CALLED BUT, DID NOT ARRIVE UNTIL 2 HOURS AFTER BEING SUMMONSED AS THE SNOW CONTINUED TO ACCUMMULATE. I HAD THE VAN TOWED TO OUR BUSINESS LOCATION AND DECIDED TO CHECK THE ENGINE AIR FILTER. WHEN I OPENED THE FILTER HOUSING, IT AND THE AIR FITER WERE WATER-SOAKED. I OBSERVED WATER RUNNING DOWN THE WINDSHIELD, DOWN ALONG THE FIREWALL AND ONTO/INTO THE AIR FILTER BOX. I CONTACTED MY LOCAL FORD DEALER (FORD OF WILBRAHAM, MA, TEL.: 413-543-2800) TO REPORT MY FINDINGS & TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT TO REMEDY THE PROBLEM. THE SOLUTION WAS PERFORMED AS PER TSB (TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN) #19-2091 AND AT A COST OF $488.45 (INVOICE #659506), WHICH I RELUCTANTLY PAID TO THE DEALER. I EXPLAINED THAT THIS A POOR DESIGN ALLOWING WATER TO RUN DIRECTLY INTO THE AIR FILTER BOX, WHICH, IN TURN, SHUTS DOWN THE ENGINE & RENDERS THE VEHICLE MOTIONLESS & CAN BE DANGEROUS, DEPENDING UPON WHERE & WHEN THE VEHICLES' ENGINE STALLS & THEN FAILS TO RESTART. THE SERVICE WRITER SAID THAT THERE WAS NOTHING SHE COULD DO TO HELP ME & THAT I AM STILL RESPONSIBLE FOR THE COST OF THE TSB. IN ADDITION, MY INVOICE INDICATES THAT RECALL #19S38 WAS PERFORMED, YET IT IS STILL OUTSTANDING ON THE RECALL WEBSITE UNDER MY VEHICLES' VIN. FOR THE RECORD, THIS VAN HAD ONLY 31,853 MILES ON IT, WHEN I BROUGHT IT IN FOR THIS PROBLEM.
IT APPEARS THAT THIS MODEL HAS AN ENGINE FAILURE ISSUE RELATED TO WATER ENTERING THE AIR BOX AND CAUSING THE WATER TO TRAVEL TO COMPONENTS THAT DISABLES THE CAR. I WAS DRIVING IN THE RAIN AND GOT STRANDED ON THE SIDE OF THE INTERSTATE IN HEAVY TRAFFIC AND HEAVY RAIN ON I40 IN KNOXVILLE TN FOR AN HOUR WAITING FOR A TOW TRUCK TO GET ME OUT OF A DANGEROUS SITUATION. HAD IT TOWED TO A DEALER THAT PROCEEDED TO TELL ME THE NEXT DAY THAT THERE WAS A TSB ON THIS ISSUE AND THAT THERE WAS A KIT THAT REMEDIES THE PROBLEM. A DEFLECTOR OF SOME SORT TO KEEP WATER OUT OF THE AIR BOX. THE COST TO THE CONSUMER IS OVER $750 TO GET IT DONE. I STRONGLY BELIEVE THAT IS FORD KNOWS ABOUT ABOUT THIS ISSUE AND HAS COME UP WITH A SOLUTION, IT SHOULD BE A RECALL AND NOT JUST A TSB. THEIR POOR DESIGN AND NEGLIGENCE PUT ME IN A DANGEROUS SITUATION FOR ABOUT AN HOUR . I COULD HAVE BEEN RAMMED BY HIGHWAY TRAVELERS AND POSSIBLY KILLED BECAUSE MY VEHICLE WAS DISABLED BECAUSE OF A POOR DESIGN THAT FORD REFUSES TO REPAIR AT THEIR COST. SOMEONE PLEASE ADVISE FORD AND THEIR DEALERS THAT THIS IS NOT A CONVENIENCE ISSUE, BUT A LIFE THREATENING ISSUE THAT FORD SHOULD ISSUE A RECALL TO REMEDY THE POOR DESIGN AT THEIR COST. THANK YOU.

THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 77,000.
