THE VEHICLE WAS PARK AND SMOKE WAS COMING FROM UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE CAUGHT FIRE PLEASE PROVIDE ADDITTIONAL INFORMATION DEALER IS.
HEAD GASKET BLEW AND CAUSED TIMING BELT GASKET TO FAIL AS WELL. PER FORD RECALL IS ONLY FOR 7 YEARS OR 100,000 MILES AND THE VAN IS 7 YEARS AND 8 MONTHS OLD AND HAS 75,000 MILES. BROUGHT VAN TO DEALER @ 40,000 AND DEALER REFUSED TO CHECK GASKET AND INFORMED ME THAT ONCE IT GOES BAD, BRING IT IN AND WE WILL FIX IT AND NEVER MENTIONED ANYTHING ABOUT A TIME LIMIT. NOW DEALER AND FORD IS REFUSING TO FIX GASKETS AND THEY ARE ASKING $2,305 TO FIX PROBLEM THAT I BELIEVE SHOULD STILL BE COVERED.
THE HEAD GASKET BLEW OUT, IN WHICH GAS HAD MIXED WITH THE ANTIFREEZE. *JB
ENGINE 3.8 WAS REMANUFACTURED (68,500) UNDER RECALL AND NOW HAS SAME ISSUE, BLOWN HEAD GASKETS (125,200). FORD HAS ISSUED A TECH SERVICE BULLETIN IN THE LAST 6 MONTHS ON THIS. IT SEEMS THAT THE ISSUE WAS NOT ADEQUATELY FIXED ON THE FIRST RECALL, OR THE TSB WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN ISSUED.

1995 FORD WINDSTAR WAS RECALLED FOR THE HEAD GASKETS, HAD DEALER FIX PROBLEM AND THE PROBLEM HAS RESURFACED.
HOT AIR SENSOR BLEW OFF THE SILICONE TUBES THUS MELTING THE MS AND SOME OTHER ELECTRICAL WIRES. DT
CONSUMER CALLED COMPLAINING ABOUT HAVING PROBLEM WITH THE SPEEDOMETER INSTRUMENT DO NOT PROVIDE THE RIGHT SPEED, NEEDLE GO UP AND DOWN AFTER 45 MPH. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER INFORMATION. MR

CONSUMER HAS RECEIVED A NOTIFICATION REGARDING THE HEAD GASKETS. CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THE GASKET REPAIRED AND WAS INFORMED BY THE MECHANIC THAT THE REPAIRS COULD NOT BE DONE UNTIL THE HEAD GASKET HAS FAILED. THE NOTIFACTION ALSO INDICATED A WARANTY OF 7YRS AND/OR 100,000 MILES. TS *TT
TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN, IN JUNE OF THIS YEAR(2002) I WAS SHOPPING FOR A VEHICLE FOR MY WIFE AND FOUND A 1995 WINDSTAR AT PAT MCCRAKEN FORD IN DEWITT MICHIGAN. IT WAS IN NICE SHAPE AND RAN GOOD. I HAD NO IDEA OF THE HEADGASKET PROBLEM THAT I WAS ABOUT TO INHERIT. AROUND THE MIDDLE TO THE LAST OF NOVEMBER MY WIFE WAS DRIVING HOME AND IT OVERHEATED. I REPLACED THE THERMOSTAT, RADIATOR CAP AND WATERPUMP BEFORE TAKING IT BACK TO THE DEALER. HE WANTS TO CHARGE ME $900.00 TO REPLACE THE HEADGASKETS NOT INCLUDING NEW HEADS WHICH MIGHT BE BAD. ON A TRADE-IN ON SOMETHING ELSE HE ONLY WANTS TO GIVE ME $1000.00 FOR THE VAN, WHICH I KNOW HE WILL FIX FOR HIS COST AND PUT BACK ON HIS LOT TO CHEAT SOME OTHER UNSUSPECTING PERSON. WHAT MAKES ME MAD IS THAT HE KNEW BEFORE HE PUT IT ON HIS LOT THAT THE 1995 WINDSTAR'S WERE PRONE TO ENGINE FAILURES. BEING UNEMPLOYED AT THE PRESENT TIME I DIDN'T NEED THIS PROBLEM. TERRY
THIS VEHICLE HAS HAD MORE THAN IT'S SHARE OF PROBLEMS. THE HEAD GASKET WAS BROUGHT IN FOR A RECALL AND IT STILL MALFUNCTIONED.
HAD TO HAVE HEADS REPLACED, ELECTRONIC BRAIN, AND THE TRANSMISSION FAILED ALL WITHIN 1 1/2 YEARS FROM DATE OF PURCHASE. *JB
RECALL NOTICE: RECEIVED ONE MAY 2000 FOR 95 FORD WINDSTAR. IT SAYS THERE IS A DEFECT IN THEIR 3.8L ENGINE WITH THE HEAD GASKETS. I AM NOW HAVING THAT PROBLEM BUT THEY WILL NOT REPAIR IT BECAUSE THEY SAY IT EXPIRED FEB 2002. THE COST IS $1000-$2000. THE CAR IS NOT DRIVABLE AT THIS TIME. HEAD GASKET FAILURE. HEAD GASKET WAS ORIGINALLY REPLACED IN APRIL 2000. 16 DAYS LATER THE ENGINE FAILED. ENGINE WAS REPLACED BY FORD. CURRENT ENGINE HAS 55,000 MILES -- AND HEAD GASKET FAILED AGAIN. DT
MY EX-1995 FORD WINDSTAR HAS 77,000 MILES SHOWED A OVERHEATING PROBLEM. FORD AFFILIATED DEALER (YOUNG FORD IN ROCHESTER, MI) SAID IT WAS FIXED BY REPLACING A WATER PUMP. BUT OVERNIGHT THE SAME OVERHEATING APPEARED. NEXT TIME THE DEALER SAID IT WAS A HEAD GASKET PROBLEM, WHEN FORD WAS CONTACTED TO BE TOLD IT WAS UNDER RECALL TWICE BUT MY CAR COULD NOT BE COVERED DUE TO EXPIRED RECALL WARRANTY (7 YEARS OR 100,000 MILE WHICHEVER COMES FIRST). I FIXED AND SOLD IT BECAUSE I DO NOT WANT TO DRIVE A CAR FROM UNRELIABLE MANUFACTURER.
THE VEHICLE STARTED TO MAKE A HISSING NOISE AND THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE WENT TO HIGH. THE CONSUMER FELT THERE WAS A DEFECT IN THE MOTOR. *NLM
WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEED THE ENGINE SHUT DOWN CAUSING LOST OF POWER STEERING. PLEASE FEEL FREE TO ADD ANY ADDITIONAL INFORMATION. TS
CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. TOOK TO DEALER NEXT DAY. THEY SAID IT WAS A FAILED HEAD GASKET. I WENT ON INTERNET AND DISCOVERED THERE HAD BEEN TWO GENERAL RECALL PROGRAMS FOR THIS PROBLEM ONE IN MAY 1998 AND ONE IN FEB. 2000. I RECEIVED NO NOTIFICATION OF THESE BUT FORD SAID IT WOULD NOT HAVE MADE ANY DIFFERENCE BACAUSE THEY WERE NOT REQUIRED TO FIX IT UNLESS IT HAD FAILED. I BOUGHT THE CAR NEW IN 1995. THE PROBLEM OCCURRED AT 60,000 MILES AND THREE MONTHS PAST SEVEN YEARS. FORD SAID NTSB HAD REQUIRED THE WARRANTY PERIOD TO BE EXTENDED TWO TIMES AND IF THEY RECEIVED INFORMATION THAT IT WAS A CONTINUALLY RECURRING PROBLEM, THE PERIOD MIGHT BE EXTENDED AGAIN. I BELIEVE FORD SHOULD BE ACCOUNTABLE TO FIX THIS PROBLEM FREE OF CHARGE SINCE I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF THE CAR AND THE PROBLEM HAPPENED AT ONLY 60,000 MILES, REGARDLESS OF THE TIME PERIOD OWNED. THEY HAVE OBVIOUSLY BEEN AWARE OF THE PROBLEM SINCE AT LEAST 1998 AND SHOULD BE LIABLE FOR FIXING IT FOR ALL ORIGINAL OWNERS, REGARDLESS OF MILEAGE AND TIME OWNED. IT IS UNFAIR TO ALLOW A LIMITATION ON THIS PROBLEM FOR ORIGINAL OWNERS. I ASK THAT NTSB REQUIRE FORD TO EXTEND THE TIME PERIOD INDEFINITELY ON THIS PROBLEM FOR ALL ORIGINAL OWNERS. DT
WE SMELLED A STRONG ODOR COMING FROM THE BOTTOM OF THE 1995 FORD WINDSTAR LX VAN. I THOUGHT IT WAS THE MUFFLER, SO IN OCT 16,2002 I TOOK MY VAN INTO AL PACKER FORD AND HAD IT CHECKED. AT THE TIME WE WERE HAVING TROUBLE WITH THE TRANSMISSION ALSO,THE VAN WOULD JUMP OUT OF GEAR AT STOP LIGHTS. THE SERVICE MANAGER SAID , TO SAVE MONEY IT WOULD BE CHEAPER TO HAVE THE MUFFLER DONE AT A MUFFLER SHOP, BUT THEY COULD CHECK THE TRANSMISSION. THEY SAID I NEEDED A OVERHAUL ON MY TRANSMISSION WHICH WOULD RUN BETWEEN 800.00 TO 2100.00. I DIDN'T HAVE THE MONEY SO I DECLINED. THE VAN HAD ONLY 70,076 MILES ON IT AT THE TIME. IT WAS NOW NOV. 2003 WITH ONLY 72000 MILES ON THE VAN AND HAD SAVE THE MONEY TO FIX THE VAN. SO I SHOPPED AROUND FOR A PRICE FOR MY TRANSMISSION AND MUFFLER. I WENT TO BRAKE WORLD IN ROYAL PALM BEACH ,SO THEY COULD GIVE ME A ESTIMATE. THEY TOLD ME THE TRANSMISSION WOULD BE BETWEEN 2100.00 TO 2500.00, BUT THE SMELL WAS NOT COMING FROM THE MUFFLER. THEY SAID THE SMELL WAS COMING FROM THE GAS TANK AND I SHOULD TAKE IT TO THE DEALER. I TOOK IT TO AL PACKER FORD AND TOLD THEM ABOUT THE RECALL. THEY SAID IT DOESN'T SHOW ON THEIR COMPUTER. I TOLD THEM I HAD A DOCUMENT AT HOME OF A FUEL TANK RECALL 99S33C. THEY SAID TO BRING IT IN. ON JULY,2000 A FUEL TANK BRACKET WAS PUT ON, BUT I DON'T BELIEVE THEY CHECKED FOR CRACKS IN THE GAS TANK. I HAD MY VAN IN FOR REGULAR SERVICE INTERVALS AT 59000 MILES, AT 66325, AT 70076 AND NOW AT 72000 MILES. NOT ONCE DID THEY FIND A CRACKED GAS TANK, BUT THANK GOD, BRAKE WORLD DID ! ISN'T FORD SUPPOSE TO CHECK YOUR VEHICLE ONCE IN WHILE FOR A KNOW DEFECT? COULD LEAK IN THE GAS TANK CAUGHT FIRE? *LA
IN MARCH OF 2000 I BROUGHT THIS VAN FROM J&R USED CARS IT JUST HAD A NEW ENGINE BLOCK PUT IN BY LATHAM FORD, I GOT THE VAN WITH 62566 MILES ON IT WITH THE NEW ENGINE INSTALLED. NOW AFTER ONLY 32957 MILES ON THIS ENGINE THE BLOCK GOES AGAIN JUST AFTER THE WARRANTY EXPIRES HOW FUNNY I REALLY THINK THESE ENGINES SHOULD LAST LONGER THEN THAT. SO NOW I AM STUCK WITH THIS BROKEN DOWN VAN JUST AFTER 30,000 MILES THATS NOT FAIR THESE ENGINES ARE NOT RIGHT PLEASE HELP ME ANYWAY YOU CAN THANK YOU. MR

THE WINDSTAR HAS HAD A TRANSMISSION REBUILT. THE ENGINE AND HEAD GASKETS REPLACED. NOW THE HEAD GASKET HAS GONE AGAIN. THIS VEHICLE HAS BEEN MAINTAINED AND SHOULD HAVE LASTED ANOTHER 100, 000 MILES. I KNOW I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE WITH THESE CONTINUING PROBLEMS. 1995 WINDSTARS ARE ALL LEMONS AND THE GOVERNMENT AND FORD HAVE DONE NOTHING TO RESOLVE THIS. DT
VEHICLE SUFFERED SUDDEN ACCELERATION AT THE SPEED OF 50 MPH. THE ENGINE RACED AT 4000 RPM. AND THERE WAS GASOLINE COMING FROM THE TAILPIPE. DEALER NOTIFIED. * MR DEALER FOUND THAT THE THROTTLE WAS STUCK. HOWEVER CONSUMER DECLINED REPAIRS. HE FELT THAT AN IMPROPERLY INSTALLED MASS AIR FLOW CAUSED THE ENGINE TO RACE AT HIGH RPMS. *TT
ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON TODAY AFTER WE HAD THE ENGINE REPLACED ON 09/21/01. WE ALSO SMELLED FUMES AROUND THE CAR AND INSIDE THE CAR. WE HAVE HAD PROBLEMS AFTER PROBLEMS WITH THIS WINDSTAR AND WOULD APPRECIATE SOMETHING BEING DONE ABOUT IT. WE ARE VERY DISAPPOINTED IN FORD. WE HAVE BEEN WITH THEM FOR OVER 12 YEARS. THIS VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED AT AN AUCTION IN DETRIOT. THE PREVIOUS OWNER PURCHASED THE VEHICLE FROM BRIGHTON FORD MOTOR COMPANY. BEFORE WE PURCHASED THEIR VEHICLE, A ENGINE WAS INSTALLED BY THE PREVIOUS OWNER AND THE FLYWHEEL WAS REPLACED TWICE ALSO. AFTER WE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE IN JANUARY OF 2001, WE HAD IT IN FOR REPAIR FOR THE FLYWHEEL. AT THAT TIME IT WAS UNDER WARRANTY. IT WAS REPAIRED BY METRO FORD OF LANSING . AGAIN ON JAN 23, IT WAS SERVICE AGAIN FOR THE FLYWHEEL STILL UNDER WARRANTY. ON SEPT 11, 2001, THE VEHICLE WAS AGAIN SERVICE NOT UNDER WARRANTY THIS TIME COSTING US $1362 IN REPAIRS. THE LAST TWO TIMES THE FLYWHEEL WAS REPAIRED WAS ON AUG. & OCT. OF 2002. EVEN WHILE DRIVING THIS VEHICLE POSES A DANGER TO ME AND MY CHILDREN. IT SWITCHES GEARS WHILE I AM DRIVING AND SOUNDS LIKE THE ENGINE ITSELF IS COMING APART, ALL WHILE DRIVING. THE ENGINE LIGHT IS ON AND THE OVERDRIVE LIGHT IS FLASHING CONSTANT. THE BRAKE SYSTEM HAS FAILURES THAT CAN NOT BE FOUND BY EITHER A DEALER SERVICE DEPARTMENT OR BRAKE SPECIALIST. HAVE SPENT OVER $1500 TRYING TO FIX THE BRAKES. WHAT HAPPENS IS THAT WHEN BRAKES ARE DEPRESSED THEY RUMBLE AND JUMP AND NO BRAKE TO STOP. THEN BRAKES KICK IN AND TIRES SQUEAL FROM THE QUICK STOP. ALL WINDSTARS I HAVE SPOKE TO ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. THIS NEEDS TO BE INVESTIGATED, THIS IS A CAR THAT FAMILIES ARE TRAVELING IN. CHILDREN CAN AND WILL BE INJURED. DT
FORD ISSUED A CUSTOMER SATISFACTION NOTIFICATION IN 2000 FOR POTENTIAL HEAD GASKET FAILURE. THEY EXTENDED THE WARRANTY ON THAT COMPONENT TO 7 YRS/100,000 MILES. OUR WINDSTAR IS NOW INOPERABLE DUE TO A FAILED HEAD GASKET AND WE ARE TOLD BY FORD THAT WE ARE NO LONGER COVERED. MR

9/12/02 HEAD GASKET FAILED ON 1995 WINDSTAR 3.8L ENGINE. VEHICLE TAKEN TO NORTH LARSEN FORD IN EMPORIA, KS FOR REPAIR. LEFT HEAD GASKET REPLACED AND TEST DROVE ON 9/16/02. TECHNICIAN FOUND OIL LEAKING AT LEFT HEAD GASKET AND SUBSEQUENTLY REMOVED HEAD AND REPLACED GASKET A SECOND TIME. VEHICLE WAS READY AND RELEASED TO MY SPOUSE 4:00 PM, 9/19/02 WITH UNDERSTANDING THAT IT WAS SERVICED AND READY. FORD DECLIINED TO COVER FAILURE UNDER EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR HEAD GASKET FAILURES DUE TO VEHICLE ORIGINAL PURCHASED IN 1994 AND WARRANTY LIMITED TO 7 YEARS OR 100,000 MILES. REPAIR COSTS WERE BILLED TO ME AT $1491.73 AND PAID ON RELEASE. SPOUSE LEFT EMPORIA, KS WITH VEHICLE AT 6:00 PM 9/19/02 AND DROVE TO 550 MILES TO DENVER, CO. SEVEN MILES NORTH OF GOLDEN, CO ON I-70, VEHICLE OVERHEATED WITHOUT WARNING AND ENGINE STARTED TO CLATTER. HIWAY PATROL STOPPED TO ASSIST AND WHEN ENGINE OIL WAS CHECKED NO OIL LEVEL WAS REGISTERED ON DIP STICK, METAL FRAGMENTS WERE PRESENT AND CRANKCASE WAS SMOKING. HIWAY PATROL TOOK SPOUSE TO BUY OIL AT WHICH TIME 4 QUARTS WERE ADDED TO OBTAIN PROPER FILL LEVEL. VEHICLE THEN DRIVEN TO STEVINSON'S FORD IN GOLDEN, CO. STEVINSON'S FORD SERVICE DEPT. INSPECTED VEHICLE AND FOUND ROD BEARING FAILURE. SERVICE DEPT. ESTIMATED $2,500-3,500 FOR REPAIR. MY FAMILY (SPOUSE AND 5 CHILDREN) WERE ENROUTE TO OUR NEW RESIDENCE IN RICHLAND, WA AND STRANDED WITHOUT TRANSPORTATION. SERVICE MANAGER DETERMINED FAILURE WAS DUE TO LOSS OF OIL AND IDENTIFIED PROBABLE CAUSE AS IMPROPER FILL OR LEAKAGE FOLLOWING SERVICE/REPAIR. CIRCUMSTANCES FORCED PURCHASE OF NEW VEHICLE WITH 1995 WINDSTAR AS TRADE-IN. DEALER ALLOWED $4,000 FOR TRADE. PURCHASE PRICE FOR 1995 WINDSTAR WAS $7,500 ON 3/1/02 RESULTING IN A LOSS OF $3,500 AS A RESULT OF ENGINE FAILURE. $3,500 PLUS $1491.73 FOR INITIAL REPAIRS LEFT ME WITH A NET LOSS OF $4,991.73 DUE TO HEAD GASKET FAILURE AND IMPROPER SERVICE . HAD HEAD GASKET AND VALUE GASKET LEAKS IN 2000 AT ~63000 MILES - REPLACED. CAM SENSORY ALSO REPLACED AT THAT TIME. IN FOR SERVICE LAST MONTH - MULTIPLE SERVICES PERFORMED INCLUDING OXYGEN SENSOR, FUEL INJECTOR, PLUGS/WIRES. NOW ENGINE IS DEAD. NLM
WHILE DRIVING AND WITHOUT WARNING THE STABILIZER BAR SNAPPED CAUSING THE CONSUMER TO LOOSE STEERING CONTROL AND WAS FORCED TO PULL OVER. DEALER NOTIFIED. *MR THE REAR SHOCKS WERE REPLACED. *JB *SCC
I HAVE HAD A RECALL ON THE GAS TANK. THE BRAKE LINE, THE SLIDING DOOR ,THE SPRINGS ON THIS VEHICLE. NOW FORD IS TELLING ME THEY DIDN'T RECALL THIS ENGINE JUST EXTENDED THE WARRANTY TO 100,000 MILES/7 YEARS WHICH EVER COMES FIRST AND OF COURSE I MISSED THIS BY 6 MONTHS. MY WIFE WAS STUCK AT A REST STOP WITH OUR 7 MONTH OLD UNTIL I COULD PCIK HER UP. SHE WAS ON THE WAY DOWN TO MINEAPOLIS/ST. PAUL FOR A VISIT AND OF COURSE DIDN'T MAKE. IT. DT
THE CAR WAS PARKED IN MY DRIVEWAY. I STARTED THE CAR AND STEPPED ON THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. I GOT OUT OF THE CAR AND LOOKED AROUND THE WHEELS. I SAW OIL LEAKING OUT AROUND THE RIGHT REAR WHEEL AND ON THE SPARE TIRE.*AK
#4 HEAD GASKET FAILED. FORD IS AWARE OF THE DEFECT THAT CAUSES THE FAILURE BUT REFUSES TO PAY FOR THE ENGINE REPLACMENT NECESSARY DUE TO THE FAILURE. THE WARRANTY PERIOD EXPIRED 9 MONTHS AGO BUT THE VAN ONLY HAS 65K MILES.*AK
IT IS APPARENT THAT THE FORD 3.8 L IS EXPERIENCE HEAD GASKET FAILURES. ALTHOUGH I HAVE SPOKEN WITH FORD THEY REFUSE TO ACKNOWLEDGE A PROBLEM, THEY FURTHER ADVISED ME THAT I WAS OUT OF LUCK BECAUSE MY EXTENDED WARRANTY THAT THEY ISSUED AS A CUSTOMER SATSIFACTION PROGRAM HAD EXPIRED. IN FORD'S LETTER OF 1998 THEY DID ADVISE ME OF POSSIBLE HEAD GASKET FAILURE, I TO BRING TO A DEALER IF SOMETHING WAS NOTED TO HAPPEN, WHAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN DONE IS HAVE THE DEALERS CHECK THESE ENGINES AT THAT TIME, BECAUSE IT IS APPARENT THAT THE ONLY WAY WE AS THE CONSUMER WILL KNOW ABOUT THE PROBLEM IS WHEN THE ENGINE SEIZES. WHAT IS GOING TO TAKE FOR THIS MANUFAXTURE TO OWN TO A DEFECTIVE PRODUCT, HIGHWAY DEATHS?*AK

PER FORD - THIS KNOWN DEFECT IS CAMPAIGN 00M09-THE WARRANTY HAD TO BE EXTENDED TWICE, HOWEVER SINCE MY DEFECT DID NOT OCCUR PRIOR TO 2/28/2002-END OF 2ND EXTENSION OF WARRANTY, THEY WILL NOT REPLACE DEFECTED PART. I NOW HAVE TO PAY $1267 TO HAVE DONE. I HAVE OWNED CAR LESS THAN ONE YEAR. *AK
