ADD ANOTHER MEMBER TO THE FORD WINDSTAR CLUB WITH FAILED HEAD GASKETS. BECAUSE WE PURCHASED OUR VEHICLE IN NOVEMBER OF 1994, WE MISSED BEING COVERED BY THE EXTENDED WARRANTY BY THREE MONTHS, EVEN THOUGH OUR VEHICLE HAD ONLY 62,439 MILES AT THE TIME OF THE HEAD GASKET FAILURE. FORD SAYS THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO. I'M PREPARING A SMALL CLAIMS SUIT WHERE I WILL ASK FOR AN EXCEPTION TO THE EXTENDED WARRANTY REQUIREMENTS, AND REIMBURSEMENT IN FULL FOR THE COST OF REPAIRS. THE VEHICLE STARTED RUNNING ROUGHLY WITH A LARGE AMOUNT OF WHITE EXHAUST AND AN OVER HEATED ENGINE. CONSUMER HAD VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DEALER, THEIR DIAGNOSIS, A FAILED HEAD GASKET. CONSUMER HAS DISCOVERED THAT FORD IS AWARE OF THE FLAW WITH THE HEAD GASKETS AND THAT THERE ARE COMPLAINTS FROM OTHER CONSUMERS WITH THESAME PROBLEM. CONSUMER WOULD LIKE REIMBURSEMENT FOR MONIES PAID. *JG
FORD CONTACTED AND REFUSED TO ASSIST IN COST OF REPAIR EVEN THOUGH FAILURE HAD BEGUN DURING REPAIRABLE PERIOD. NO SAFETY DEFECT LISTED. *AK
STEAM WOULD BE VISIBLE WHEN VEHICLE WAS IDILING OR PARKED, CONTACTED DEALER, DEALER STATED HEAD GASKETS WERE LEAKING, PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER DETAILS.*AK
WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO OPEN THE PASSENGER SIDE SLIDING DOOR, IT FELL RIGHT OFF. THE BACK END OF THE DOOR FELL RIGHT TO THE GROUND. THE CAR HAS NOT BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT OF ANY KIND. VERY DANGEROUS AS IT ALMOST TOOK MY FOOT OFF. *AK
WHEN CONSUMER TURNED VEHICLE ON ABS BRAKING LIGHT APPEARED ON DASHBOARD. WHILE APPLYING BRAKES VEHICLE HAS A NOISE COMING FROM WHEELS, AND VIBRATION INSIDE STEERING COLUMN.*AK
THE TRANSMISSION PUT ITSELF INTO GEAR FROM PARK IN THE GARAGE AS I WAS GETTING OUT THE DRIVERS DOOR INJURING ME AND DAMAGING THE GARAGE WALL AND THE VAN DOOR. AFTER PRESSING THE BRAKE TO STOP THE MOVEMENT, FOUND CAR IN PARK AND ALL TESTED ALL GEARS - THEY ALL PRODUCE REVERSE. SHOWED THE WIFE. WENT TO VIDEOTAPE THE FAILURE, BUT HAD TO TURN THE CAR OFF TO GET THE RECORDER. WHEN I TURNED THE CAR BACK ON THE PROBLEM WAS MAGICALLY GONE! I AM IN THE PROCESS OF TRYING TO REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM WITH THE VIDEO RUNNING. PLEASE HELP THE CITIZENS OF THIS COUNTRY. FORD IS HURTING THIS COUNTRY, ITS CITIZENS, AND PROBOBLY HAS KILLED A FEW BECAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM. I WAS LUCKY. DON'T LET THIS TURN INTO ANOTHER TIRE THING. DO SOMETHING NOW! P.S. VEHICLE WAS LEAKING COOLANT. TOOK VEHICLE IN FOR HEAD GASKET RECALL. AFTER RECALL REPAIRS WERE DONE MANUFACTURER CONTACTED OWNER STATING THAT TIMING COVER GASKET NEEDED REPLACEMENT. *AK FRONT BRAKE HOSE RUPTURED IN MAY OF 2001, CAUSING VEHICLE TO NOT STOP, REAR BRAKE LINES RUPTURED IN 2002, CAUSING VEHICLE TO NOT STOP. *JB
CONSUMER STATED BRAKE LINE RUSTED IN THE MIDDLE, A MODERATE STOP FORCED LINE TO RUPTURE, CAUSING COMPLETE LOSS OF BRAKES, AND BRAKE FLUID DRAINED ONTO CATALYTIC CONVERTER.*JB

HEAD GASKET REPLACEMENT, FORD REASSEMBLED AND THE OTHER HEAD CRACKED (AT THE SAME SPOT) IN LESS THAN 350 MILES.
HEADGASKEK BLEW. CALLED A SERVICE GARAGE AND WAS TOLD HE HEARD THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THAT TYPE OF VAN HE WASNT EVEN A FORD DEALER EITHER. WAS TOLD TO CALL A FORD DEALER. I CALLED KELLY FORD AND GAVE THEM THE VIN NUMBER AND WAS TOLD THERE WAS A RECALL ON MY VAN BUT THEY NEEDED TO SEE THE VAN TO SEE IF THAT WAS THE PROBLEM BUT I COULDNT DRIVE THE VAN. I THEN CALLED PALM BAY FORD AND GAVE THEM THE VIN NUMBER AND WAS TOLD THE SAME THING ABOUT A RECALL AND FORD PAYS IT BUT I WAS TOLD BY A FEW SERVICE PEOPLE AND FRIENDS TO STAY AWAY FROM PALM BAY FORD.I THEN CALLED PARADISE FORD AND GAVE THEM THE VIN NUMBER AND WAS TOLD AGAIN ABOUT THE RECALL.I THEN CALLED BACK KELLY FORD AND WAS TOLD IT WOULD TAKE ABOUT 3 WEEKS TO FIX .ITHEN CALLED BACK PARADISE FORD AND THEY SAID ABOUT 2 TO 3 DAYS AND I ASKED IF TOWING WAS INCULED IN THE RECALL BUT WAS TOLD NO. BUT AMY GAVE ME A TOWING CO SO I HAD THE VAN TOWED UP THERE. WHEN THEY GOT MY VAN THEY CALLED ME AND TOLD ME IT WASNT COVERED ANY MORE BECAUSE THE RECALL ENDED ON MY VAN. I THEN CALLED FORD CUSTOMER RELATION AND TOLD THEM MY PROBLEM AND THEY CALLED PARADISE FORD AND TOLD ME TO CALL AND TALK TO DEBBIE AND FORD COULDNT HELP ME SO I CALLED AND TALKED TO DEBBIE AND WAS TOLD THAT AMY SO OF NEVER TOLD ME THAT BECAUSE SHE DOESNT WORK IN THAT DEPARTMENT AND THE RECALL WA FOR 7YRS OR 100000 MILES AND MY VAN WENT IN SERVICE IN 94 SO I MISSED IT BY 6 MONTHS. DEBBIE SAID SHE WOULD TALK TO HER REP TO SEE WHAT SHE COULD DO AND CAL ME BACK. SHE CALLED ME AND SAID HER REP SAID THEY WOULD PAY 900 IF I WANTED TO PAY 600. WHY WOULD THEY EVEN PAY ANYTHING IF THEY WEREN WRONG OR EVEN STILL HAVING PROBLEMS. DEBBIE TOLD E SHE DOESNT KNOW WHY FORD STOPPED THE RECALL BECAUSE THERE STILL HAVING PROBLEMS . ICAN EVEN PROOF IT BY THE VANS WAITING TO BE FIXED AT THE PLACES I CALLED. I EVEN WROTE A LETTER TO FORD CUSTOMER RELATION BUT I GUESS THERE NOT DOINING ANYTHING I JUST WANT FORD TO KNOW THE PROBLEM STILL AND PAY ME 600.00 FOR MY REPAIR.*AK
I HAVE HAD NUMEROUS PROBLEMS WITH MY 1995 WINDSTAR. THE TRANSMISSION FAILED IN 10/99 AND I HAD TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE TRANSMISSION. I HAVE HAD MANY PROBLEMS WITH THE COMPUTER/ELECTRICAL SYSTEM WITH SENSORS AND FUSES GOING OUT. MY TIMING GASKET COVER CRACKED AND COOLANT WAS LEAKING (10/01). I HAD TO HAVE THAT REPLACED ALONG WITH THE WATER PUMP, ETC. NOW, MY ENGINE HAS EITHER A BEARING OR HAS THROWN A ROD AND I HAVE BEEN TOLD I NEED TO HAVE MY ENGINE REPLACED AT A COST OF $3500. THERE HAVE BEEN MANY MORE PROBLEMS (STRUTS, ENGINE MOUNTS, ETC....). I HAVE SPENT OVER $6000 (NOT INCLUDING REGULAR MAINTENANCE COSTS --OIL CHANGES, BRAKES, TIRES, TUNE UPS, ETC). I HAVE HAD TO SPEND MUCH $$$ ON CAR RENTALS WHILE MY CAR WAS BEING REPAIRED. NOW I'M FACED WITH A HUGE NEW PROBLEM--THE ENGINE. *AK
WHEN APPLYING BRAKES PEDAL GOES ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. HAD AN ACCIDENT BECAUSE OF MALFUNCTIONED BRAKES IN DECEMBER 2001.*AK
TIMING BELT GASKET IS CAUSING A PROBLEM WITH VEHICLE. COOLANT IS LEAKING FROM THIS ENGINE PART.*AK
TRANSMISSION WAS SLIPPING. ALSO, VEHICLE WILL KICK INTO SECOND GEAR. CONSUMER TOOK VEHICLE FIVE TIMES TO A DEALER, BUT THE PROBLEM CONTINUED. *AK
THERE IS A KNOCKING NOISE COMING FROM UNDERNEATH OF VEHICLE. VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING. DEALERSHIP WAS AWARE OF PROBLEM. *AK
HEAD GASKET WAS LEAKING, AND ENGINE FAILED MAKING VEHICLE INOPERABLE. CONSUMER TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER LATER THEN THE TIME WAS ALLOWED FOR VEHICLE TO BE LOOKED AT AS A RECALL PUT OUT BY MANUFACTURER. *AK
I WAS DRIVING FROM WISCONSIN TO PENNSYLVANIA AT NIGHT. IN OHIO, I NOTICED A SIGNIFICANT LOSS OF POWER, AND "WHOOSHING" NOISE FROM UNDER CHASSIS, GRADUALLY GETTING WORSE OVER A COUPLE OF HOURS. AT THAT POINT, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ALSO CAME ON. AFTER ARRIVING IN PITTSBURGH (AND AFTER CHRISTMAS HOLIDAY) I TOOK THE CAR TO A MUFFLER SHOP. AS I EXPECTED, ONE OF THE CATALYTIC CONVERTORS WAS CLOGGED. ON DIAGNOSING THE PCM FAULT CODES, THEY DISCOVERED THAT THE RUBBER HOSES CONNECTING TO THE DPFE (DIFFERENTIAL PRESSURE FEEDBACK EGR) SENSOR WAS NEARLY COMPLETELY MELTED AWAY (BECAUSE OF THE INCREASED EXHAUST BACKPRESSURE FROM THE CAT FAILURE???). I WAS PREPARING THE CAR FOR ANOTHER LONG-DISTANCE TRIP ON 6/10/02 WHEN I DISCOVERED THAT THE PLASTIC AIR INTAKE PLENUM AND THE WIRING HARNESS IN THAT AREA WERE DAMAGED BY HEAT, AS WELL. THE AREA OF DAMAGE IS RIGHT IN THE AREA OF THE METAL TUBES COMING FROM THE EXHAUST SYSTEM THAT THE RUBBER HOSES TO THE DPFE SENSOR CONNECT TO. ABOUT 8 OF THE WIRES HAD THEIR INSULATION COMPLETELY BURNED THROUGH (ABOUT 1" IN LENGTH). MANY OF THE REST OF THE WIRES HAD EMBRITTLED INSULATION, OR THE INSULATION WAS MELTED TOGETHER (THERE SEEM TO BE ABOUT 50 CONDUCTORS IN THE WIRING HARNESS AT THAT LOCATION). I'M REALLY QUITE SURPRISED THAT NO FUSES BLEW, SINCE THE BARE WIRES WERE ALL ADJACENT TO EACHOTHER (ON THE BACK SIDE OF THE WIRE BUNDLE, OUT OF SIGHT IF YOU'RE NOT LOOKING CLOSELY). I HADN'T DETECTED ANY ELECTRICAL FAILURES AT THE TIME, OR DURING THE INTERVENING 6 MONTHS, BUT THIS WAS CLEARLY A FIRE HAZARD. I HAVE SOME REASONABLY CLEAR DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHS OF THE DAMAGED WIRES (TAKEN WHILE I REPAIRED THE INSULATION ON ALL OF THE CONDUCTORS WITH VINYL ELECTRICAL TAPE). I'LL BE HAPPY TO EMAIL THEM TO YOU IF YOU'RE INTERESTED.*AK
LOSS OF COOLANT WHILE DRIVING. TAKEN VEHICLE TO DEALER AND INFORMED CONSUMER THAT HEAD GASKET BLEWOUT AND VEHICLE WAS NOT COVERED UNDER EXTENDED WARRANTY. ASKING NHTSA TO ASSIST IN THIS MATTER. *AK THERE IS NO RECALL FOR THIS PARTICULAR YEAR OF VEHICLE THAT WOULD RELATE TO THE CONDITION OF THIS VEHICLE, CONSUMER BELIEVES THAT THE VEHICLE WAS MANUFACTURED WITH A DEFECTIVE HEAD GASKET CAUSING SERIOUS DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE. *TT
1995 FORD WINDSTAR ENGINE HEAD GASKET FAILURE - FORD WILL NOT ADMINT TO A DEFECT IN QUALITY. THIS VAN NOW SITS IN MY DRIVEWAY FOR OVER A YEAR AND NO ONE WILL FIXIT FOR UNDER 3500.00. PROBLEM IS THAT BECAUSE OF THE DEFECTS IN THIS VAN, THE VALUE OF IT IS 1000.00. I ALSO PUT TWO TRANSMITTIONS INTO IT, WATER PUMPS, THERMOSTATS, RADIATOR AND NO ONE INFORMED ME OF A POTENTAL DEFECT WITH THE HEAD GASKETS
I HAD TO PAY FOR REPLACEMENT OF BLOWN HEAD GASKETS FOR THE SECOND TIME IN 2 1/2 YEARS. I PREVIOUSLY HAD BLOWN HEAD GASKETS REPAIRED ON THIS ENGINE IN 07/1999. AT THAT TIME, THIS VEHICLE WAS COVERED UNDER FORD'S EXTENDED SERVICE PLAN (ESP). I DO NOT THINK I SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR PAYING $1380.42 FOR REPAIR OF BLOWN HEAD GASKETS AGAIN APPROXIMATELY 2 1/2 YEARS AFTER HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM REPAIRED. IT APPEARS TO ME THAT THIS MOTOR IS DEFECTIVE IF THE SAME MAJOR PROBLEM APPEARS AGAIN AFTER 2 1/2 YEARS. I FEEL THAT FORD SHOULD COVER THE COST OF THIS REPAIR IN A RECALL OF THIS ENGINE PROBLEM. IT JUST SEEMS VERY UNFAIR TO HAVE TO PAY THIS AMOUNT TWICE WITHIN A 2 1/2 YEAR PERIOD. I WILL BE GLAD TO PROVIDE COPIES OF INVOICES SHOWING PAYMENT OF THESE 2 INCIDENCES FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. *AK
VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A 20-25 MPH FRONTAL COLLISION IN WHICH DRIVER AND PASSENGER AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY, CAUSE UNKNOWN.*AK *SLC
TRANSMISSION SLIDES OUT OF GEAR AT A STOP. DEPRESSING THE GAS WITH EXPECTION OF CAR MOVMENT RESULTS IN HIGH RPMS AND AFTER A 1-2 SECOND DELAY, A SUDDEN HARSH FORWARD MOVEMENT. THIS DELAY CAUSED US TO BE LURCH AND BE REAR ENDED BY OUR SUBSEQUENT SLAMMING. *AK
HEAD GASKETS WENT BAD CAUSING VAD OXYGEN SENSOR, AIR INTAKE VALVE AND $1400 DOLLARS WORTH OF REPAIR @ MY COST ; UNFORTUNATELY , THERE WAS AN EXTENDED WARRANTY CAVERAGE ON THIS. I HOWEVER DID NOT RECEIVE THE NOTICE.
ABS LOCKS AND VEHICLE DOES NOT STOP. HAVE SPENT OVER $2000 TRYING TO FIX BRAKING ISSUE. TONE RINGS, STRUTS, SUSPENSION, FRONT BRAKES, REAR BRAKES, BEARINGS, CV JOINTS, MASTER CYLINDER, AMONG OTHER REPLACEMENTS. OVER BUMPS, SMALL HILLS, STRAIGHT ROADS, ANYTIME COMING TO A STOP, VEHICLE INTERMITTENTLY FAILS TO STOP COMPLETELY. HAVE PUMPED BRAKES AND FOUND THAT BRAKE PEDAL GETS HARD AND LOUD, STILL DOES NOT HELP TO STOP VEHICLE. STEERING WHEEL FEELS LOOSE AT WHEN THIS HAPPENS. BRAKE PEDAL ALSO KICKS BACK, SOMETIMES WITH EXCESSIVE FORCE, MAKES A LOAD GRINDING NOISE. CONTROLLING THE CAR BECOMES DIFFICULT AS LOSS OF BRAKE PRESSURE AND STEERING WHEEL ROCKING (ON DECENT OF SMALL HILL) COMBINED MAKE FOR A DEADLY COMBINATION. I AM BEING FORCED TO PURCHASE A BETTER VEHICLE, NOT EVER FORD AGAIN. *JB
WHEN COMING TO A STOP VEHICLE WILL STALL UPON TAKE OFF. THIS HAS HAPPENED 3 TIMES. ENGINE WAS REPLACED AT END OF NOVEMBER, 2001. HAS HAPPENED 2 MORE TIMES SINCE THEN. *AK
ENGINE HAD A BLOWN HEAD GASKET. VEHICLE WOULD OVERHEAT AND EXPERIENCE LOSS OF COOLANT AND A COMPLETE LOSS OF STEERING. DEALER/MANUFACTURER CONTACTED. WAS INFORMED THE ENGINE WOULD BE REPLACED. UPON VERIFICATION OF WARRANTY, THE VEHICLE WAS NOT COVERED BUT DEALER AGREED TO PAY HALF THE COST. *JG *AK
INTERMITTENTLY VEHICLE STALLS OUT/ HESITATES AND DIES WHEN ACCELERATING. VEHICLE STARTS UP IMMEDIATELY AFTER STALLING. DEALER HAS REPAIRED VEHICLE SEVERAL TIMES; HOWEVER, PROBLEM HAS NOT BEEN CORRECTED.*AK
SPEEDOMETER WAS WORKING INTERMITTENTLY. AT TIMES THE CONSUMER WILL NOT KNOW SPEED. CONTACTED DEALER. *AK THE CONSUMER STATED THAT THE DEALER REPLACED THE CABLE BUT THE PROBLEM WAS IN THE SPEEDOMETER PINION GEAR. PER TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN VEHICLE EQUIPPED WITH INCORRECT SPEEDOMETER PINION GEAR. *YH
HEAD GASKET IS DEFECTIVE,IT BLEW WHILE CONSUMER WAS DRIVING, AND ANTI-FREEZE MIXED IN WITH OIL. THERE IS A SERVICE BULLETIN ON THE VEHICLE FOR THAT PROBLEM. PLEASE PROVIDE MORE INFORMATION.*AK

ON NOVERMBER 15, 2001 CONSUMER PURCHASED 4 NEW GOODYEAR AQUATREAD TIRES, (MTS P205/170R15,955 DOT, MKMO, 5BHR 0400) ON NOVEMBER 23, 2001 WHILE DRIVING AND WITHOUT WARNING THE FRONT PASSENGER TIRE EXPLODED, CONSUMER WAS ABLE TO BRING THE VEHICLE TO A STOP, UPON INSPECTION OF THE TIRE THERE WAS NO EDIVENCE OF A ROAD HAZARD PUNCTURE OR OTHER PROBLEMS.*JB
ENGINE BEGAN ROUGH IDLING, STRONG SMELL OF FUEL WITHIN VEHICLE, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WENT ON WITHIN A FEW MINUTES. A CLOUD OF SMOKE FOLLOWED THE VEHICLE. *AK
THE 3.8L ENGINE THAT WAS INSTALLED IN THE 1995 FORD WINDSTARS AND OTHER CARS HAVE A HAD A CONSISTANT FAILURE OF THE HEAD GASKETS. WITH THE TOTAL NUMBER FAILURES, WHY HASN'T THERE BEEN A COMPLETE RECALL OF THESE ENGINES. I HOPE THIS HELPS!!!*AK
