MFR# 01S19 & NHTSA# 01 V 199 000/FRONT COIL SPRING CORROSION: CONSUMER STATES WHILE PULLING INTO A PARKING LOT RIGHT FRONT COIL SPRING BROKE AND PUNCTURE THE TIRE. THE MAKE & MODLE SHOW A RECALL. DEALER NOTIFIED. FEEL FREE TO PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION.
WHEN SHIFTING FROM 1ST TO 2ND GEAR, THE VAN WOULD VIBRATE. THE DEALERSHIP STATED THEY REPLACED THE MOTOR MOUNTS, HOWEVER THE CONDITION STILL PERSISTS. THE MOTOR MOUNTS WERE REPLACED AGAIN DUE TO THE SAME PROBLEM OF UNKNOWN VIBRATION. NLM *JB THE PASSENGER SIDE FRONT TIRE WORE OUT. THE TIE ROD ENDS WERE REPLACED. *JG
THE PLASTIC COVERS ON THE SEAT BELTS ARE WORN AND HAVE SHARP EDGES. THE DRIVERS SIDE BELT IS CUT IN HALF. THE DRIVER SIDE REAR BELT IS CUT HALF WAY THROUGH AT THIS TIME. *JG TS
WHILE BRAKING THERE WAS A CLANKING NOISE IN FRONT END. TOOK VEHICLE TO FORD, FORD REPLACED SUBFRAME BUSHINGS AND TIE ROD ENDS. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION. TS. *AK
CONSUMER CALLED COMPLAINING ABOUT THE RECALL RECEIVED ON THE VEHICLE. ALSO STATED THAT SHE HAD THIS PROBLEM BUT THE DEALER NEVER PAID ATTENTION TO THE COMPLAINTS. TS
CONSUMER STATES THAT THE DEALERSHIP WICKER FORD; TICONDEROGA NY; 518-585-2888 IS REFUSING TO HONOR THE RECALL FOR THE PROTECTION SHIELD FRONT COIL 01 F 121 000. TS
THERE IS RUST LOCATED ON BOTH SIDES AND THE TOP OF THE WINDSHIELD. THE RUST WASN'T VISIBLE UNDER THE MOLDING UNTIL REPLACEMENT HAD BEGUN. *JG *JB *NLM

THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. *TT *JB *TS
CONSUMER CALLED COMPLAINING ABOUT HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE LEFT FRONT SPRING BREAKING. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE SHOP AND THE SPRINGS WERE REPLACED BUT THE SHIELDS FOR THE SPRING WERE NOT REPLACED. THE CONSUMER DOES NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING THE VEHICLE BECAUSE THE SAME PROBLEM MAY OCCUR. *NLM
THE SWAY BAR BROKE OFF INSIDE THE BUSHING. WHICH CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO RIDE ROUGH AND BOUNCE UP AND DOWN. *JB

CONSUMER COMPLAINED ABOUT HAVING PROBLEMS WITH VEHICLE, RACK AN PINION STEERING LOCKING.*AK
WHEN DEPRESSING THE BRAKES VEHICLE WOULD GO INTO EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCE. VEHICLE WAS SERVICED, ABS MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *AK
CONSUMER COMPLAINED ABOUT LEFT FRONT SPRING BREAKING. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER, AND THE SPRING WAS REPLACED, BUT DEALER REFUSED TO CHANGE THE OTHER ONES UNLESS THEY BROKE. DID NOT FEEL THAT THIS VEHICLE WAS SAFE TO BE DRIVING AGAIN.*AK
DEALERSHIP DID NOT PERFORM RECALL 01V199000 REPAIRS CORRECTLY FOR FRONT COIL SPRING, AND IS REFUSING TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. *AK
RACK AND PINION STEERING HAS FAILED. THERE WAS A RECALL ISSUED ON THE DESCRIPTION, BUT THIS VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED.*AK
WHILE DRIVING ENGINE STARTED IDLING HIGH AND RUNNING ROUGH. DEALER HAS BEEN NOTIFIED.*AK
THE CLOCKSPRING FAILED WHICH RENDERED HORN AND AIR BAG INOPERATIVE. *AK
PROBLEMS WITH TRANSMISSION, TORQUE, POWER STEERING, AND FRONT END STABLE RODS & ARMS. *MR THE TRANSMISSION AND TORQUE HAD BEEN REPLACED TWICE, THE POWER STEERING ONCE, THE FONT END STABLE RODS AND ARMS TWICE AND REMAINED BAD. THE BATTERY LIGHT HAD COME ON AND THE IDLER PULLEY WAS REPLACED, THERE WAS A CREAKING/CRACKING NOISE WHEN TURNING THE WHEEL AND THE OUTER TIE RODS WERE REPLACED ALONG WITH THE TOE BEING RESET, THERE WAS A CLUNK WHEN GOING OVER THE BUMPS, THERE WAS A VIBRATION UNDERNEATH DUE TO THE TRANSMISSION, THE ENGINE LIGHT WOULD COME ON AND OFF AND SEEMED LIKE THE SHIFTS WERE ERRATIC, THE TRANSMISSION LEAKED BADLY, AND ON SOME OCCASIONS THE STARTER DID NOT ENGAGE. *SCC *JB
1998 WINDSTAR HEAD GASKET FAILURE. *MR THE CONSUMER NOTICED THE COOLANT WAS LOW AND HAD IT TO TOPPED OFF. THE COOLANT LEVEL CONTINUED TO FALL. THE MECHANIC REFUSED TO CHANGE EITHER FLUID DUE TO THE HEAD GASKET FAILURE. THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE 95' MODELS BUT IT APPEARED THAT FORD DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. REFER TO ODI# 10028678 *SCC *JB
WHILE DRIVING CONSUMER HEARD A GROANING NOISE. TIE ROD ENDS WERE CRACKED. VEHICLE WILL BE TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR FURTHER ASSESSMENT.
CONSUMER OWNED A 1998 WINDSTAR THAT LOST LUGS IN THREE INSTANCES SINCE VEHICLE WAS BOUGHT. THIS ALWAYS HAPPENED TO THE RIGHT FRONT TIRE. CONSUMER MAINTAINED THAT REPLACING THE LUGS WAS NOT A SOLUTION SINCE THE LUGS ON THAT TIRE WERE REPLACED TWICE. THE LUGS WON'T REMAIN TIGHT. OVER TIGHTEN THEM AND THEY WOULD BREAK. UNDER TIGHTEN THEM ,AND THE LUGS NUTS WOULD LOOSEN, AND THEN LUGS WOULD BREAK. THERE WAS NO MIDDLE GROUND EXCEPT TO CONSTANTLY CHECK THEM FOR TIGHTNESS. *AK
FUEL PUMP FUSE HAS BLOWN ON 1998 FORD WINDSTAR. *MR THE VEHICLE CEASED TO RUN WHILE IN HEAVY TRAFFIC. THE CONSUMER FOUND THAT IT HA BEEN A NUMBER OF VEHICLE'S WITH FUEL PUMP WIRE FAILURES DUE TO DEFECTIVE VENTING SYSTEMS FOR THE FUEL TANK. THIS CAUSES THE FUEL TANK TO DEFORM, COLLAPSE AND PINCH THE WIRES TO THE INTEGRITY MOUNTED FUEL PUMP. *SC
THE FUSE IN THE FUEL PUMP BLEW OUT ON THREE SEPARATE OCCASIONS. WHEN THIS OCCURRED THE VEHICLE STALLED. UPON REPLACING THE FUEL PUMP, THE CONSUMER CHECKED THE WIRING IN THE FUEL PUMP. THEY NOTICED THAT THE WIRES WERE RUBBING AGAINST A METAL CLAMP OR PIPE , WHICH CAUSED THE INSTALLATION TO RUB OFF. *NM *JB
CONSUMER RECEIVED SEVERAL RECALL/ CAMPAIGN NOTICE 03E003000 REGARDING DS-2000 PRIMARY DRIVING CONTROL SYSTEM. CONSUMER DID NOT AGREE WITH THE CAMPAIGNS THAT THE MANUFACTURER CALLED ROUTINE MAINTENANCE. THESE REPAIRS WERE VERY COSTLY, AND DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM WITH DIRT AND FOREIGN MATERIALS ENTERING THE SYSTEM ,AND CAUSING THE SYSTEM TO OPERATE SLOWLY. THE CONTROLS ON THE SYSTEM HAD TO BE PRESSED FIRMLY UNTIL THE FUNCTION, E.G., SHIFTING WAS ACCOMPLISHED. *AK
WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE FREEWAY THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE WHEEL SEPERATED FROM THE VEHICLE DUE TO ALL FIVE STUDS SNAPPING OFF.*MR
