NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS, HOT WEATHER. THE ABS AND TRAC LIGHTS ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL LIGHT UP. ABS AND TRAC ARE DISABLED, SUDDENLY AND UNEXPECTEDLY INCREASING BRAKING DISTANCE. IN COOLER WEATHER, THE SYSTEMS SEEM TO BE WORKING. NO REPAIRS HAVE BEEN DONE YET. *TR
ABS LIGHT FOLLOWED BY FUSE BLOWING AND LOSS OF DASH LIGHT AND ALL INSTRUMENTS(SPEEDOMETER AND ODOMETER) POWER WINDOWS AND SLIDING DOOR NOT FUNCTIONING. OCCURRED 6 TIMES - REPLACED FUSE EACH TIME. LAST INCIDENT, FIRE OCCURRED ON THE WIRING JUST BELOW AND ATTACHED TO THE MASTER CYLINDER. WIRING HARNESS COMPLETELY MELTED EXPOSING THE BARE WIRES WHICH WERE MELTED TOGETHER. AT THIS TIME SEPARATED THE WIRES AND TAPED EACH WIRE INDIVIDUALLY. AND SECURED WIRES TO THE SIDE WALL OF THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. *TR
RECENTLY HAD MY 2000 FORD WINDSTAR LX EXAMINED BY MY MECHANIC. HE TOLD ME THE FRAME IS CRACKED IN TWO PLACES, ONE IN FRONT, THE OTHER IN REAR. COST OF REPAIR $2000+. CAR HAS 175K MILES. NEEDS REPAIRS TO PREVENT FURTHER CORROSION. SINCE NEW CAR LOCATED IN RI. STILL NEED TO HAVE REAR AXLE RECALL INSPECTION. *TR
2000 FORD WINDSTAR REAR AXLE AND FRONT SUB-FRAME FAILURE: FORD DEALER HAS HAD MY VAN FOR 7 MONTHS NOW SINCE SEPTEMBER 1, 2010. I JUST RECEIVED ANOTHER RECALL NOTICE THIS WEEK ABOUT POTENTIAL FRONT SUB-FRAME FAILURE. DEALER SAYS MY VAN FAILED FRONT END INSPECTION BUT IS REPAIRABLE AND MUST NOW WAIT FOR THOSE PARTS ALSO. FORD HAS BEEN GREAT WITH RENTAL CAR AND TREATED US FAIRLY. HOWEVER, I HAVE LOST TOTAL CONFIDENCE IN THE SAFETY OF THIS VEHICLE AND DO NOT WANT IT BACK, EVEN WITH REPAIRS. ASIDE FROM SITTING WITH THE SAME FUEL IN IT FOR 7 MONTHS NOW, IT HAS OBVIOUSLY INCURRED WEATHERING AND WEAR ON SYSTEMS LIKE TIRES, BATTERY, OIL, ETC. I HAVE ALSO BEEN PAYING INSURANCE FOR A PARKED VEHICLE FOR 7 MONTHS. OF GREATER CONCERN IS THE FACT THAT THIS VEHICLE HAS COMPLETELY LOST ALL TRADE IN VALUE OR RESALE POTENTIAL. WITH ONLY 80K MILES, I HAD INTENDED TO KEEP THIS VEHICLE FOR MANY MORE YEARS. IT HAS ALWAYS BEEN GARAGE KEPT AND DEALER MAINTAINED AND THE BODY IS IN GREAT CONDITION. TWO WEEKS BEFORE THE REAR AXLE CRACKED, I HAD A FORD DEALER COMPLETE $1,400 IN FRONT END MAINTENANCE - NEW SUSPENSION COMPONENTS, STRUTS, BUSHINGS, ETC. BOTTOM LINE IS: I HAVE LOST TOTAL CONFIDENCE IN THE SAFETY OF THIS VEHICLE, EVEN WITH REPAIRS; I HAVE LOST MONEY ON REPAIRS JUST PRIOR TO THE REAR AXLE FAILURE; I HAVE PAID FOR INSURANCE FOR A CAR SITTING IN A LOT FOR 7 MONTHS - SO FAR; I HAVE LOST ALL TRADE IN VALUE: I HAVE LOST ALL RESALE VALUE - NOBODY IN THEIR RIGHT MIND WOULD BUY A WINDSTAR NOW AFTER ALL THE MEDIA COVERAGE; I CANNOT AFFORD TO REPLACE IT WITH A COMPARABLE VEHICLE AT THIS TIME. I DO NOT WANT THIS VEHICLE BACK! I URGE YOU TO CONSIDER THE ISSUES I HAVE LISTED ABOVE AS YOU CONTINUE YOUR INVESTIGATION. WHILE SOME POINTS ABOVE MAY BE OUTSIDE THE SCOPE OF YOUR INVESTIGATION, FORD NEEDS TO UNDERSTAND THE ENORMOUS IMPACT OF THIS SITUATION ON THEIR CUSTOMERS. I HAVE GOTTEN SEVERAL RECALL LETTERS FROM FORD ABOUT THE REAR AXLE. THE FIRST TIME THEY BOLTED BRACKETS FOR THE REPAIR. I CAN'T GET MY VEHICLE INSPECTED BECAUSE OF THIS AND TO DO SO I HAVE TO PAY $300.00 FOR A NEW AXLE WHICH I FEEL BEING A RECALL IT SHOULD BE UP TO FORD TO TAKE CARE OF THIS MATTER. IT IS A MAJOR SAFETY PROBLEM THAT COULD BE DEADLY TO MYSELF AND MANY OTHERS.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD WINDSTAR. WHILE DRIVING IN REVERSE 2 MPH, THE CONTACT SUDDENLY NOTICED A LOUD BANG COMING FROM OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT DISCOVERED THAT THE REAR AXLE WAS FRACTURED IN TWO. A MECHANIC WAS SENT FROM THE DEALER TO DIAGNOSE THE VEHICLE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE REAR AXLE WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THERE WERE NO PRIOR WARNINGS OF THE FAILURE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 86,000.
MY 2000 FORD WINDSTAR WAS RECALLED AND I SAW THE ABS LIGHT ON AFTER THE MAINTENANCE. THEY HAVE NOT FIXED THE FIRE HAZARD PROBLEM. I'M WORRIED ABOUT MY CAR. IS A MANUFACTURER DEFECT ON WIRING. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD WINDSTAR SEL. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH WHEN BOTH REAR TIRES SUDDENLY SLANTED. THE CONTACT DISCOVERED THAT THE REAR AXLE WAS FRACTURED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 124,000.
LARGE CRACK ALMOST ENTIRELY AROUND REAR AXLE ON DRIVER'S SIDE. DISCOVERED CRACK WHEN INVESTIGATING NOISE FROM REAR OF VEHICLE. APPEARS CRACK STARTED ON INSIDE OF FORMED CHANNEL. ALSO NOTICED A SHORT APPROX. 1 INCH CREASE LINE IN THE CENTER OF THE FORMED CHANNEL NOT FAR FROM WHERE THE CRACK STARTED. CORROSION APPEARS TO HAVE OCCURRED ON THE INSIDE OF THE AXLE BEAM. WHILE INVESTIGATING THE OTHER SIDE (PASSENGER SIDE) NEAR ANOTHER CREASE LINE, POKED A HOLE IN THE AXLE BEAM WITH A SCREWDRIVER. NO SEVERE CORROSION IS EVIDENT ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE AXLE BEAM. ATTEMPTS TO FIND A USED AXLE BEAM HAVE BEEN UNSUCCESSFULLY DO TO SIMILAR DAMAGE. REPAIRING THE AXLE SEEMS ILL ADVISED CONSIDERING THE POSSIBILITY OF MORE INTERNAL CORROSION AND A NEW AXLE IS BEING LOOKED INTO. LUCKILY MY WIFE PAYS ATTENTION TO THOSE LITTLE ODD NOISES AND WASN'T GOING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AND IT TOTALLY FAILED. *TR
200 FORD WINDSTAR VAN REAR AXLE BEAM BREAKING IN HALF. THIS OCCURRED AS MY MOTHER WAS RUNNING AN ERRAND AROUND TOWN. SHE WAS ABLE TO GET THE CAR HOME, WHERE SHE CALLED ME TO COME AND LOOK AT THE PROBLEM. SO FAR I HAVE YET TO CONFIRM WITH FORD IF THEY WILL FIX THE PROBLEM OR IF THERE IS A RECALL ON IT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD WINDSTAR. THE CONTACT WAS ACCELERATING FROM A TRAFFIC STOP AT 5 MPH WHEN THE REAR AXLE FRACTURED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE DEALER CONFIRMED THAT THE AXLE WOULD NEED REPLACING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 89,000.
ABS AND TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT WOULD INTERMITTENTLY TURN ON DURING OPERATION FOR APPROXIMATELY THREE DAYS. AFTER THAT TIME, BOTH LIGHTS ARE CONTINUALLY LIT. *TR
WHILE DRIVING MY 2000 FORD WINDSTAR ON THE HIGHWAY AT 60MPH, I NOTICED THAT THE BACK END OF THE CAR FELT LIKE IT WAS SWAYING OR SLIDING AS IF ON ICE. I EXITED THE HIGHWAY AND DROVE TO A PARKING GARAGE ABOUT 5 MILES AWAY. WHILE PULLING UP TO THE GATE AT THE GARAGE AT A LOW RATE OF SPEED, THERE WAS A LOUD NOISE, WHICH WAS THE REAR AXLE BREAKING COMPLETELY IN HALF. REPLACED WITH A USED AXLE. *TR

THE REAR AXEL OF MY VAN BROKE IN TWO. I WASN'T DRIVING VERY FAST. I WAS DROPPING OFF SOME KIDS AT THE MOVIE THEATER AND IT WAS A GOOD THING I WAS ALREADY IN THE PARKING LOT AND NOT ON THE ROAD WHERE IT COULD HAVE BEEN WORSE. THANKFULLY THERE WAS NO ONE HURT AND NO CAR ACCIDENTS. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD WINDSTAR. THE CONTACT WAS TRAVELING 30 MPH WHEN THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO DRIVE AS IF THERE WAS FLAT TIRE. THE CONTACT LATER DISCOVERED THAT THE REAR AXLE WAS FRACTURED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED OR INSPECTED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 95,000.
I HAVE A FORD 2000 WINDSTAR. IN BACKING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY LAST WEEK THE REAR AXLE SNAPPED IN HALF. I SAW THE ARTICLE TODAY ON THE NEWS ABOUT THE RECALL BUT THOUGHT YOU WOULD WANT TO ADD THIS TO THE STATISTICS. I CALLED A FORD DEALER WHO SAID TO BRING IT IN AND IT WOULD BE FIXED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD WINDSTAR. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 35 MPH WHEN HE HEARD A LOUD NOISE FROM UNDER THE VEHICLE. THE STEERING IMMEDIATELY BECAME EXTREMELY LOOSE AND THE CONTACT PULLED OFF THE ROADWAY AS THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO EXHIBIT AN UNUSUAL SQUEAKING SOUND. THE CONTACT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE SUB FRAME WHICH HELD THE TRANSMISSION AND THE ENGINE IN PLACE HAD FRACTURED IN HALF DUE TO SEVERE CORROSION. THE MANUFACTURE WOULD NOT PROVIDE ANY ASSISTANCE. THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED THAT THE FAILURE COULD POTENTIALLY HAVE CAUSED A CRASH. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 113,000.
2000 WINDSTAR-CRUISE CONTROL SLOWLY STOPPED WORKING, ALMOST LIKE A LOOSE BUTTON OR WIRE WAS THE ISSUE, THEN COMPLETELY STOPPED, ABS LIGHT RANDOMLY GOING ON AND OFF THEN FINALLY STAYING-STOPPING DISTANCES INCREASED, TACH, SPEEDOMETER, AND OTHER DASH GAUGE NEEDLES SWINGING WILDLY WHILE DRIVING- TACH STOPPED WORKING FIRST THEN SPEEDOMETER(WITNESSED BY IOWA HIGHWAY PATROL), OD OFF LIGHT STARTED COMING ON AT RANDOM TIMES. FINALLY STAYED ON, TRANSMISSION SLIPPED OCCASIONALLY WHEN AT STOP SIGNS. TOOK IT TO TRANS. SHOP NO CODES FOUND, NEXT DAY THE VAN WOULD NOT SHIFT INTO ANY GEAR. VAN IS NOW A YARD ORNAMENT. ISSUES ONGOING OVER THE COURSE OF ABOUT A YEAR. *TR
2000 FORD WINDSTAR LX MINIVAN WAS SUBJECT TO RECALL 09S09 DUE TO FIRES LINKED TO SCDS 10/27/2009. TOOK TO DEALER AT WHICH TIME FUSIBLE LINK WAS REPLACED. STILL HAVING ISSUES WITH ABS LIGHT COMING ON AND INTERMITTENT SPEEDOMETER/ODOMETER OPERATION SINCE MAY 2010. TOOK BACK TO MIKE CASTRUCCI FORD IN MILFORD, OHIO AND PERSON THERE HAD NO IDEA WHAT I WAS TALKING ABOUT. *TR
ON 8-16-2010 WHILE DRIVING MY 2000 FORD WINDSTAR I LOST THE STEERING ON THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE VEERED INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC BUT I WAS ABLE TO BRING THE VEHICLE BACK UNDER CONTROL. THE CAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM WAS DUE TO MY REAR AXLE SNAPPING IN HALF. THE AXLE BREAKING CAUSED DAMAGE TO THE REAR WHEELS AND THE SHOCKS AS WELL. THE TOTAL COST OF REPAIR WAS $1310.25. MY MECHANIC SHOWED ME AN ARTICLE ON THE FRONT COVER OF AN AUTOMOTIVE MAGAZINE THEY RECEIVE ABOUT THE REAR AXLES FAILING ON FORD WINDSTARS DUE TO WATER AND SALT GETTING INSIDE. THIS CAUSES THE AXLE TO CORRODE FROM WITHIN AND EVENTUALLY BREAK. FORD AT THIS TIME IS REFUSING TO RECALL THESE VEHICLES. I AM VOICING MY COMPLAINT IN THE HOPE THAT FORD WILL BE FORCED TO RECALL THESE VEHICLES AND REIMBURSE THOSE WHO HAVE ALREADY BEEN EFFECTED BY THIS SERIOUS PROBLEM BEFORE SOMEONE GETS HURT OR KILLED IF THAT HASN'T HAPPENED ALREADY. *TR

THE DEALER ADVISED REPLACING THE AXLE YET THE PART NEEDED WAS NOT READILY AVAILABLE. THE DEALER ORDERED THE PART AND THE CONTACT WAS AWAITING REPAIRS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 146,950 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 146.972.
REAR AXLE BROKE INTO 2 PIECES. PRIOR TO COMPLETE BREAKAGE, FISHTAILING WAS EXPERIENCED AT FREEWAY SPEEDS(55-70 MPH). WHEN AXLE BROKE COMPLETELY, THE REAR WHEELS TILTED IN AND CONTACTED THE INNER FENDER. *TR
DROVE VEHICLE TO DESTINATION AND WHEN WE ARRIVED THE AXLE SNAPPED IN HALF ON THE 2000 FORD WINDSTAR. VEHICLE JUST TURNED 100,000 MI WHEN REAR AXLE SNAPPED. TOWED TO REPAIR FACILITY, WAITING FOR REPAIR ESTIMATE. *TR
REAR AXLE CRACKED COMPLETELY IN HALF WHILE DRIVING, TOPS OF TIRES RUBBING ON WHEEL WELL. ALMOST RESULTED IN ACCIDENT WITH 4 CHILDREN IN THE CAR. WE WERE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN THE REAR END STARTED SWAYING AND BECAME HARD TO CONTROL. WE HAD IT TOWED TO OUR HOME AND A MECHANIC TOOK A LOOK AND SHOWED US WHERE THE AXLE IS COMPLETELY BROKE IN HALF, THE SPRING IS HANGING AND THE HUBS ARE BAD. *TR
WHILE DRIVING A 2000 FORD WINDSTAR THAT HAD BEEN REGULARLY MAINTAINED AND BROUGHT TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR EVERY CHECKUP, THE TRANSMISSION DECIDED TO GO OUT. I HAD PARKED THE CAR AND WHEN I WENT TO GO FORWARD, NOTHING HAPPENED. THE CAR HAD BEEN RUNNING GREAT UP UNTIL THIS POINT AND THERE WERE NO WARNING SIGNS OF THE TRANSMISSION BEING READY TO GIVE. I HAD TO GET THE CAR TOWED TO GET A REBUILT TRANSMISSION. I DO NOT HAVE THE OLD PART, BUT HAVE HEARD IT IS A RATHER COMMON PROBLEM AMONG '99-'03 WINDSTARS. *TR
I OWN A 2000 FORD WINDSTAR AND RECENTLY HAD RECALL WORK DONE FOR THE FAULTY SCDS IN WHICH FORD FIXED THE PROBLEM BY REPLACING THE SWITCH BECAUSE IT WAS LEAKING AND THEN THEY USED SOME SORT OF HARNESS TO ENABLE THE CRUISE CONTROL TO WORK. HOWEVER, THE ABS LIGHT IS STILL ON AND TO MY KNOWLEDGE THE ABS SYSTEM IS NOT WORKING. FORD CLAIMS THE TWO ISSUES ARE NOT RELATED. HOWEVER, WHEN I HAD DIAGNOSTIC WORK DONE BY MY MECHANIC HE PINPOINTED THE ABS/ECM MODULE WAS DEFECTIVE AND NOT WORKING. THAT IN MY OPINION LINKS THE TWO ISSUES BECAUSE THE CRUISE CONTROL IS TIED INTO THAT ABS MODULE (WHICH IS RIGHT BELOW THE SCDS SWITCH). FORD IS NOT TAKING ANY RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE ABS MODULE AT THIS POINT. IN READING SOME OTHER INFORMATION ONLINE IT SEEMS THAT MODULE EXPANDS WHEN IT GETS WARM AND CAUSE INTERMITTENT ELECTRICAL CONNECTION IN THE UNIT BECAUSE THE FRAGILE BOARD IS BEING STRETCHED AND MALFORMED. THE OCTOBER 2009 RECALL (TO FIX THE SCDS SWITCH) WILL NOT FIX THIS PROBLEM UNLESS YOU HAD A FIRE AT THE ABS CONNECTOR. WHICH TOO ME IS RIDICULOUS BECAUSE FORD KNOWS THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE ABS MODULE DESIGN AND BECAUSE THAT PART COSTS $800 THEY ARE NOT CONSIDERING IT THEIR ISSUE. THEY ARE WILLING TO ALLOW VEHICLES LIKE MINE TO TRAVEL AROUND WITHOUT THE ABS FUNCTIONING, WHICH IS NO DOUBT A SAFETY ISSUE. *TR
ABS WARNING LIGHT COMES ON AT RANDOM TIMES. MAYBE MORE OFTEN IN HOT WEATHER. WHILE LIGHT IS ON ABS DOES NOT FUNCTION. IF I PULL OVER AND SHUT OFF THE ENGINE, THE LIGHT USUALLY GOES OFF WHEN I RESTART THE CAR. AUTO SHOP REPORTS THIS IS KNOW ISSUE BUT FORD HASN'T DONE ANYTHING ABOUT IT. CONTROL BOX NEEDS TO BE REPLACED APPROX $1000.00 I HAD ONE VERY CLOSE CALL WITH A CHILD ON A BIKE JUST A FEW BLOCK FROM HOME. THE LIGHT WAS ON AT THE TIME, AND BRAKES LOCKED UP INSTEAD OF FUNCTIONING PROPERLY. *TR
2000 FORD WINDSTAR, 125,000 MILES TOOK TO MECHANIC AFTER ALMOST WRECKING ON HIGHWAY AND FOUND REAR AXLE ALMOST CRACKED IN TWO. 700.00 LATER STILL CANNOT BELIEVE FORD HAS NOT RECALLED THIS PROBLEM AFTER ALL THE COMPLAINTS. *TR

WHILE TRAVELING 35 MPH THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE VEHICLE HAD BEGAN SHAKING VIOLENTLY, AFTER EXAMINING THE VEHICLE THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE REAR FRAME HAD SEPARATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED AND THERE WERE NO PRIOR WARNINGS. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 182000.
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND MY REAR AXLE BROKE NOT ONCE BUT TWO TIMES. IM GETTING TIRED OF BUYING NEW AXLES. I WENT ON A FORD SITE AND IT SAID THAT THE YEAR OF MY VAN IT IS KNOWN FOR THIS TO HAPPEN. THEY CONSIDER IT A DEATH TRAP. I CALLED FORD AND THEY SAID THERE IS NO RECALL. HI, WE HAVE A 2000 FORD WINDSTAR THAT WAS RECALLED. LAST YEAR WHY DRIVING, THE REAR AXLE BROKE ON US WITH OUR KIDS IN THE CAR. BUT BEFORE THEN; WE HAD ODOMETER GOING OUT AND ALL THE DASHBOARD GOING OUT. UPON THEN FIXING THE REAR AXLE WE HAVE BRAKE FLUID LOST AND THE CRUISE CONTROL DON'T WORK AND THE DASHBOARD HAVE A MIND OF IT OWN AND WE KEEP HAVE THE DOOR LOCKS GOING ON AND OFF WHILE DRIVING. I HAD MY 2000 FORD WINDSTAR'S TRANSMISSION SERVICED AND WHEN I PICKED IT BACK UP THE TECHNICIAN POINTED OUT TO ME THAT I AM LEAKING BRAKE FLUID FROM A SWITCH ON THE MASTER CYLINDER. I WAS INFORMED THAT THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS BECAUSE THE LOSS OF FLUID CAN CAUSE MY BRAKES TO STOP WORKING. THE TECHNICIAN ALSO INFORMED ME THAT BRAKE FLUID IS FLAMMABLE AND MIGHT CAUSE A FIRE IF IT IS NOT REPAIRED RIGHT AWAY. *TR
I OWN A 2000 FORD WINDSTAR LX, MY PROBLEM IS THAT MY WIFE, DAUGHTER AND HER TWO CHILDREN, AND ONE OLDER ADULT WAS MINUTES AWAY FORM GETTING INTO A SERIOUS HIGHWAY ACCIDENT DUE TO THE FACT THEY WERE LESS THAN 1,000FT FT OF GETTING ONTO THE EXPRESSWAY WHEN THE REAR AXLE OF THE VAN SNAPPED ALMOST INTO TWO PIECES FOR NO REASON AT ALL. AFTER GETTING THE VAN TOWED TO MY RESIDENCE WHICH WAS A 1/4 MILE. AFTER FURTHER INSPECTION THE REAR AXLE SEAMED TO HAVE ROTTED FROM THE INSIDE OUT, THERE IS NO RUST ON THE OUTER SURFACE OF THIS HOLLOW AXLE THAT WOULD OF SHOWN SIGNS OF BREAKING. I CONTACTED A COUPLE OF USED AUTO PARTS DEALERS AND THEY HAD STATED THAT THEY HAVE MY SAME MODEL VAN BUT ALL OF THE AXLES ON THEM ARE GONE DUE TO BEING SOLD TO OTHER PEOPLE THAT HAD NEEDED THEM. I AM ASKING HAS THERE BEEN OTHER REPORTS OF THIS HAPPENING TO THIS OR LATER MODEL YEARS. MY FAMILY COULD OF BEEN SERIOUSLY INJURED OR KILLED, AND I HAVE JUST RECENTLY DONE A TRIP TO WAUKEGAN ILLINOIS AND BACK TO TOLEDO OHIO WHICH WAS 950 MILES OF TOLL ROADS WITH SPEEDS OF 65-75 MPH IF THIS HAD LET GO AT THESE SPEEDS I WILL PROBABLY NOT BE SENDING IN THIS REPORT. I WAS ON MY WAY TO WORK DRIVING MY 2000 FORD WINDSTAR WHEN SUDDENLY THE CAR REAR AXLE BROKE IN HALF THE WHEELS WHERE BOWED OUT I HAD TO HAVE A TOW TRUCK FLATBED THE CAR BUT HE HAD SOME DIFFICULT TIME BECAUSE IT COMPLETELY SNAPPED INTO TWO. A FEW DAYS BEFORE I HEARD SOME SQUEAKING SOUND COMING FROM THE BACK AND I WAS GOING TO TAKE IT TO THE MECHANIC BUT THEN THESE HAPPENED. NOW I HAVE BEEN HEARING SQUEAKY SOUND COMING FROM THE FRONT AND MAYBE IS THE FRONT AXLE NOW. THIS IS RIDICULOUS I HARDLY HAD MONEY TO PAY FOR THE REPAIRS AND THE TOW TRUCK AND NOW I HAVE TO TAKE IT AGAIN. I HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH THIS CAR OVER AND OVER AGAIN THE "CHECK THE ENGINE" LIGHT IS ALWAYS ON EVEN AFTER I TAKE IT TO THE MECHANIC TO TAKE A LOOK AT IT . I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER FORD EVER AGAIN. I OWN A 2000 FORD WINDSTAR LX . ON AUGUST 4, 2010 AT APPROXIMATELY 5PM I WAS DRIVING AT ABOUT 30 MPH WHEN SUDDENLY I THOUGHT MY TIRE HAD BLOWN OUT. I SAW LOT'S OF SMOKE OR DUST COMING FROM THE REAR END AND THE CAR WAS LURCHING TO A STOP. THERE WAS NO OTHER VEHICLE TRAFFIC ON THE ROAD AT THE TIME. I PULLED TO A STOP AND GOT OUT TO INSPECT MY REAR TIRES. I REALIZED AT THAT TIME THAT MY REAR AXLE HAD BROKEN IN HALF. I CALLED A TOW TRUCK AND WAS TAKEN TO MY MECHANIC. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD WINDSTAR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 20 MPH, SHE NOTICED A BURNING ODOR. THE CONTACT LOCATED THE FAILURE AT THE REAR WHEELS, WHICH WERE PROTRUDING INWARD. SHE TOOK THE VEHICLE INTO A LOCAL REPAIR FACILITY WHERE THEY ADVISED THAT THE REAR AXLE HAD FRACTURED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 125,000.
AT 82,000 MILES CAR WAS RUNNING BUMPY AND O/D OFF LIGHT WAS FLASHING. I TOOK IT TO FORD AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THE TRANSMISSION IS NEARLY BROKEN AND SHOULD BE REPLACED FOR $3300. I GOT IT REBUILT AT AAMCO FOR $2300. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD WINDSTAR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ABS LAMP ILLUMINATED, THE ABS SYSTEM TURNS OFF, AND ALL OF THE GAUGES ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL WERE MALFUNCTIONING. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE FAILURE ONLY OCCURRED WHEN THE WEATHER WAS HOT. THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED WHO STATED THAT THE ABS MODULE WAS MOUNTED TO AN ALUMINUM BRACKET WHICH EXPANDS IN THE HEAT AND CAUSED THE CONNECTION TO BECOME DISCONNECTED. AS A RESULT THE ENGINE CONTROL UNIT AND HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 130,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 148,000.
