2000 FORD WINDSTAR. CONSUMER STATES REAR AXLE BROKE WHILE DRIVING *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED HIS WIFE WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, WHEN SUDDENLY THE VAN BEGAN TO SHAKE. THE VAN COULD NO LONGER BE DRIVEN DUE TO THE AXLE BREAKING. *JB
THERE IS AN EXISTING RECALL (FORD) ON MANY CARS AND TRUCKS - INVOLVING THE SPEED CONTROL DEACTIVATION SYSTEM. WELL, MINE QUIT WORKING A YEAR AGO. SINCE THEN - I'VE HAD TO PUT BRAKES ON THE VEHICLE (MORE THAN ONCE). I NOW HAVE TO FILL THE BRAKE FLUID RESERVOIR WITH FLUID EVERY 2 - 3 DAYS. IF I DON'T, THE BRAKES QUIT WORKING. THE PEDAL GOES ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. THIS BRAKE SYSTEM (AND LOSS OF FLUID SYMPTOMS) ARE THE SAME ONES AS THE VOLUNTARY RECALL (LEAKING BRAKE FLUID - COULD CAUSE A FIRE). I CALLED FORD AND THEY WILL NOT HONOR A FREE FIX, BECAUSE THE VEHICLE (A 2000 WINDSTAR) DOES NOT QUALIFY (NOT SURE OF THE REASON). THEY ALSO SAID THAT THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO TO HELP ME. I HAVE TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR (BAD SWITCH / LEAKING FLUID) MYSELF. MY QUESTION TO YOU IS: WHY IS THE WINDSTAR LINE OF VEHICLES NOT PART OF THE RECALL? FORD COULD NOT ANSWER THAT FOR ME. *TR
SPEEDOMETER, ODOMETER, A/C AND CRUISE CONTROL STOPPED WORKING WHILE DRIVING. ABS WARNING LIGHT ON. FOUND #10 FUSE BLOWN IN FUSE PANEL. THIS FUSE IS RELATED TO ALL OF THE FUNCTIONS DESCRIBED ABOVE. WHEN RESEARCHING THE POSSIBLE CAUSE OF THE BLOWN FUSE, FOUND INFORMATION DESCRIBING A POSSIBLE DEFECTIVE SWITCH ON THE UNDERSIDE OF THE MASTER CYLINDER. THE SWITCH WAS IN FACT LEAKING BRAKE FLUID INTO THE HARNESS PLUGGED INTO IT. THE HARNESS ENDED AT THE ABS CONTROL UNIT UNDER THE VEHICLE APPROXIMATELY UNDER THE DRIVER'S SEAT. BRAKE FLUID WAS FOUND AT THIS SITE AS WELL. AS A TEMPORARY REPAIR, THE SWITCH WAS REMOVED AND A PLUG INSTALLED INTO THE MASTER CYLINDER. ALSO, TWO 40A FUSES WERE REMOVED FROM THE UNDER-HOOD POWER DISTRIBUTION BOX TO DISABLE THE ABS SYSTEM. AS A RESULT, THE SPEEDOMETER, ODOMETER AND A/C FUNCTIONS RETURNED TO NORMAL. HOWEVER, ABS WILL NOT FUNCTION UNTIL THE ISSUE OF THE LEAKING SWITCH, WIRING HARNESS, AND ABS CONTROLLER ARE ADDRESSED. *TR
2000 FORD WINDSTAR ...ABS LIGHT CAME ON AND ODOMETER AND SPEEDO QUIT WORKING. HAD TO REPLACE THE BRAKE PRESSURE SWITCH UNDER THE BRAKE FLUID RESERVOIR. I UNDERSTAND THIS IS A COMMON FAILURE WITH THESE VEHICLES. *TR
YELLOW ABS LIGHT COMES ON ALSO HEAR SQUEAL SOUNDS BEFORE COMPLETE STOP ON BRAKE, OVER DRIVE AND ENGINE LIGHT START TO BLINK WHEN DRIVING OFF OR OFTEN COMES ON WHEN SLOWING DOWN. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD WINDSTAR. WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH THERE WAS A BURNING SMELL IN THE BRAKE AREA. THE CONTACT OBSERVED THAT THE SMOKE WAS COMING FROM THE FRONT DRIVER AND PASSENGER TIRES; HOWEVER, AFTER REMOVING THE TIRES HE NOTICED THAT THE ROTORS WERE BLACK AND SMOKING. ONE WEEK LATER WHILE DRIVING, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE SPEEDOMETER AND MILEAGE GAGE FAILED TO OPERATE NORMALLY. A LOCAL MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT THE ABS WAS LEAKING BRAKE FLUID WHICH CAUSED THE WIRE CONNECTED TO THE ABS HAD A SHORTAGE. THE CONTACT IS IN THE PROCESS OF NOTIFYING THE MANUFACTURER. NO REPAIRS HAVE BEEN MADE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE 110,000.
MY 2000 FORD WINDSTAR HAD TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS THAT STARTED IN LATE 2008. AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION LEVER WAS HARD TOO SHIFT INTO ANY GEAR. A FEW MONTHS LATER THE TRANSMISSION STARTED LEAKING. AS THE MONTHS WENT BY THE LEAKING GOT WORSE. IN MAY OF 2009 THERE WAS NOW QUITE A BIT OF TRANSMISSION FLUID LEAKING FROM THE TRANSMISSION, CAUSING THE NEED FOR FLUID TO BE ADDED IN ORDER FOR THE TRANSMISSION TO WORK. PROBLEM FIXED IN JULY OF 2009. TRANSMISSION OIL SEAL WAS DEFECTIVE ON THE VAN, EVEN THOUGH IT ONLY HAD 75,000 MILES ON IT. HEAD GASKET NEEDED REPLACED AS WELL. TOTAL PRICE: $1700. *TR
I HAVE A 2000 FORD WINDSTAR WHICH HAD AN ELECTRICAL FIRE DUE TO A FAULTY BRAKE PRESSURE DEACTIVATION SWITCH. I TURNED THE KEY ON AND A HUGE BALL OF WHITE SMOKE CAME OUT ALL OVER THE VEHICLE. MYSELF ,MY WIFE AND MY CHILDREN WERE IN THE CAR INHALING THESE TOXIC FUMES. I HOPE INHALING THESE FUMES DON'T CAUSE ANY FUTURE HEALTH RISKS. THANK GOD MY VAN DID NOT EXPLODE AND WE WERE ABLE TO EXIT OUT SAFELY. FORD SHOULD REALLY TAKE A LOOK AT THIS PROBLEM. I WILL NEVER PURCHASE ANOTHER FORD VEHICLE. *TR
THE K-FRAME(SUB FRAME) IS COMPLETELY ROTTED OUT ON THE RIGHT SIDE. IT IS BAD ENOUGH THAT IT CANT BE WELDED, MUST BE REPLACED. ON A VEHICLE THAT IS 9 YEARS OLD WITH 80000 MILES AND IN PERFECT SHAPE. I WAS TOLD BY NUMEROUS GARAGES THAT THIS SHOULD OF NEVER RUSTED OUT THIS FAST. I THINK THAT FORD SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPAIR. *TR
ABS FAILS AS WEATHER GETS WARMER. LIGHT COMES ON SIGNIFICANTLY INCREASING BRAKING DISTANCE . *TR

PART ON BOTTOM OF BRAKE RESERVOIR LEAKS CAUSES FUSE TO TRIP OIL GETS ON ELECTRICAL WIRES SMOKES FIRE HAZARD. *TR
THE REAR AXLE HAIR LINE BEGAN TO CRACK AT AROUND 90K MILES AND IS SEVERELY CRACK NOW AT 97K MILES AND AWAITING PARTS. THE PART LOOKS TO COST AROUND $500.00 NOT INCLUDING INSTALLATION. THE GAUGES ON THE CAR ARE WACKY AND SEEMS TO WORK AT WILL AND THE ABS LIGHT CONTINUES TO COME ON. *TR
WE OWN A 2000 FORD WINDSTAR AND WHEN IT BEGAN CLUNKING ON MY WIFE AND 4 CHILDREN I GOT UNDER IT TO CHECK THE TIRES AND DISCOVERED MY AXEL WAS SNAPPED IN HALF FOR NO REASON AT ALL THIS VEHICLE HAS DONE NOTHING BUT RIDE FAMILY AROUND WHEN I TYPED IT IN I FOUND MANY OTHER COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS ISSUE ON THEIR WINDSTARS AS WELL FORD SHOULD HAVE A RECALL ON THIS ISSUE. *TR
ABS BRAKE LIGHT (YELLOW) IS ILLUMINATED INTERMITTENTLY AND BRAKE SYSTEM NO LONGER FUNCTIONS AS DESIGNED. SPEED CONTROL DEACTIVATION SWITCH RECALL (09S09) WAS PERFORMED. *TR
TRANSMISSION FAILED IN THE LOADING ZONE AT THE AIRPORT. TOWED TO LOCAL TRANSMISSION REPAIR SHOP; ADVISED THAT COST TO REPLACE WITH A USED TRANSMISSION WOULD BE $2800. CURRENT BLUE BOOK FOR THIS VEHICLE IS $2125 IN FAIR CONDITION. *TR

MY ABS LITE IN MY 2000 FORD WINDSTAR WILL NOT GO OUT. BUT THE BRAKES ARE GREAT. *TR

THERE WERE NO WARNINGS PRIOR TO THIS FAILURE. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED BY THE DEALER. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 100,000.
I AM HAVING ABS LIGHT ON / TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT ON AND SPEEDOMETER DOESN'T WORK CORRECTLY - I AM AFRAID TO LET MY WIFE DRIVE IT NOW BECAUSE IT IS ALWAYS ON. I DON'T WANT THE BRAKES TO LOCK UP . *TR
FORD WINDSTAR REAR AXLE CRACKED THROUGH 9/10THS OF THE AXLE. ISSUES WITH DRIVABLE BUT DID NOT REALIZE CAUSE. PULLED INTO PARKING LOT DUE TO LOUD NOISE IN REAR WHEEL WELL. BOTH TIRES WERE PITCHED INWARD DUE TO THE AXLE HAVING MOVED OUT OF POSITION DUE TO THE CRACK. ONLY ABOUT 1 INCH OF METAL REMAINED INTACT ON THE AXLE. AUTO WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHO ADVISED REPLACEMENT IS NECESSARY AT AN APPROXIMATE COST OF $1100. HAVING JUST DRIVEN FOR 4 HOURS ON THE HIGHWAY THROUGH A DOWNPORE, I AM CERTAINLY GLAD THE BREAKAGE DID NOT FULLY MATERIALIZE UNTIL I WAS RUNNING AT A SLOWER SPEED. IF THE FAILURE OCCURRED AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS MY FAMILY AND I MAY NOT BE HERE TODAY. AT A MINIMUM, A BULLETIN SHOULD BE ISSUED TO ALL CONSUMERS TO CHECK FOR POTENTIAL CRACKS AND FAILURES OF THE REAR AXLE AS A PREVENTATIVE MEASURE. THERE WAS NO PRIOR INDICATION AND I HAD THE VEHICLE INTO A SHOP 1 DAY BEFORE THE OCCURRENCE FOR REPLACING A REAR TIRE. THE REPAIR SHOP DID NOT ADVISE OF ANY POTENTIAL ISSUES. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD WINDSTAR. WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED, THE CONTACT SMELLED SOMETHING BURNING. THERE WERE NO FLAMES PRESENT. HE OPENED THE HOOD AND DISCONNECTED THE MASTER CYLINDER SENSOR TO DEACTIVATE THE BRAKES. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 150,000.
2000 FORD WINDSTAR. CONSUMER WOULD LIKE REIMBURSEMENT FOR REAR AXLE ASSEMBLY REPAIRS DUE TO THE RECALL THAT WAS ISSUED. *TGW ON JUNE 16, 2010, THE REAR AXLE ASSEMBLY SNAPPED IN TWO WHILE THE CONSUMER WAS BACKING OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY. *JB
FAULTY BRAKE PRESSURE DIFFERENTIAL DEACTIVATION SWITCH UNDER MASTER CYLINDER ON MY 2000 FORD WINDSTAR. I NOTICED A FLUID LEAK RECENTLY AND ABOUT THE SAME TIME DISCOVERED MY CRUISE CONTROL HAD STOPPED WORKING. AFTER DOING AN ONLINE SEARCH I CAME ACROSS THE INFORMATION REGARDING THE PROBLEM. THE LEAKAGE AROUND THE ABOVE PART DRIPPED ONTO THE WIRING BELOW WHERE IT IS MOUNTED. I WENT AHEAD AND PURCHASED A NEW SWITCH TO AVOID HAVING A FIRE AND TO FIX THE MALFUNCTIONING CRUISE CONTROL. *TR
TL- THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD WINDSTAR. HE STATES THAT WHILE BACKING OUT HE NOTICED THAT THE THE REAR AXLE SNAPPED. A WEEK BEFORE THE VEHICLE DEVEOLPED A UNDER STEER . THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED AND THEY DID NOT WANT TO HELP THE CONSUMER WITH THIS PROBLEM. HE STATES THAT THIS IS A VERY BIG SAFETY ISSUE. HE NOTICED THAT THERE MANY OTHER VEHICLE WITH THIS PROBLEM ONLINE. THE VEHICLE IS AT THE RESIDENCE AND IS NOT DRIVABLE.THE HAS NOT DECIDED YET TI REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 146000.

THE FAILURE CAUSED A FUSE TO BLOW, WHICH CAUSED THE SPEEDOMETER TO FAIL. THE FUSE HAS BURNED OUT AND BEEN REPLACED FOUR TIMES. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN INSPECTED BY A MECHANIC. THE CONTACT BELIEVES THAT A RECALL SHOULD BE ISSUED. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 111,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD WINDSTAR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT ALL OF THE ACCESSORIES CONNECTED TO THE ACCESSORIES RELAY CONTINUE TO OPERATE, EVEN WHEN THE KEY IS REMOVED FROM THE IGNITION. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE VIN WAS EXCLUDED FROM NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 00V351000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:WIRING:INTERIOR/UNDER DASH), ALTHOUGH THE FAILURES WERE IDENTICAL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 130,000.
I HAVE A FAULTY SWITCH ON MY BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER- AND MY CAR WAS NOT PART OF THE RECALL FORD ISSUED WITH THE SAME PROBLEM TO IT'S OTHER VEHICLES. THIS PROBLEM IS LINKED TO THE CRUISE CONTROL AND CAUSES THE BRAKE FLUID TO LEAK POSSIBLY CAUSING A FIRE. *TR
THE ABS LIGHT COMES ON MY 2000 FORD WINDSTAR. I HAVE HAD IT CHECKED AS IT WAS ACTING INTERMITTENTLY. I WAS INFORMED THAT EVERY SENSOR AND CONTROL MODULE FOR THE ABS SYSTEM FAILED ACCORDING TO THE CODE. THE MECHANIC SAID THAT THIS WAS NOT REALLY POSSIBLE HOWEVER HE BELIEVED IT TO BE THE CONTROL MODULE. I HAD IT CHECKED AGAIN THIS YEAR AS THE LIGHT COMES ON EVERY TIME NOW AND IT IS THE CONTROL MODULE ON THE DRIVERS SIDE UNDER THE VAN. I HAVE DRIVEN VEHICLES FOR YEARS WITHOUT ABS SO IT DOESN'T BOTHER ME TO NOT HAVE IT. THE COST TO FIX IT IS NOT WORTH IT AS THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER HAS ALSO STARTED TO FAIL. THE ABS LIGHT ACTS UP MORE DURING THE WARM WEATHER/SUMMER. *TR
SINCE THE BEGINNING OF SUMMER MY ABS LIGHT HAS BEEN COMING ON INTERMITTENTLY AND STAYING ON WHEN IT IS WARM OUT. THE DRIVER'S SIDE FRONT BRAKE GETS VERY HOT AND SQUEAKS AND GRINDS AS WELL. NOW THAT IT IS TURNING COOLER THE LIGHT DOESN'T COME ON AS OFTEN BUT STILL DOES. I HAVE NOT REPLACED ANYTHING YET AS I AM WAITING TO SEE IF A RECALL OCCURS. *TR
ABS LIGHT COMES ON AT RANDOM INTERVALS -- USUALLY AFTER A BUMPY ROAD. ONLY HAPPENS WHEN TEMPERATURE ABOVE 30 DEGREES. DOES NOT HAPPEN WHEN THE TEMPERATURE IS BELOW THAT. WE HAVE HAD ONE DAY THIS WINTER ABOVE 30 DEGREES AND THE LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN. SAME THING HAPPENED LAST WINTER. DEALER HAS LOOKED AT IT SEVERAL TIMES AND WANT TO REPLACE THE ABS COMPUTER AT 500+ DOLLARS.
1. YESTERDAY LEAVING LUNCH (HAD DRIVEN TO CHURCH, HOME, OUT AGAIN NO ISSUES) THE ABS LIGHT CAME ON. WITHIN 10 MINUTES, THE AIR WAS RUNNING STRANGE, CRUISE CONTROL, SPEEDOMETER, ODOMETER ALL WERE GONE. 2. FIRST TIME THE FAILURE OCCURRED. 3. WE ARE CALLING DEALERSHIP/ REPAIR SHOPS NOW FOR MORE INFORMATION ON REPAIR AS WE SPEAK. *TR
TWO DAYS PRIOR TO REAR AXLE SNAPPING IN TWO NOISE WHEN TURNING RIGHT. UPON INSPECTION STRESS CRACK WAS UNOBSERVABLE. WHILE IN REVERSE REAR AXLE SNAPPED IN TWO. CAN'T FIND TOWING COMPANY THAT WILL TOW VAN IN SUCH AN UNSAFE STATE SINCE REAR SPRING COULD FLY OUT AND KILL SOMEONE. *TR
I HAVE A WINDSTAR AND THIS MORNING I LOST THE SPEEDOMETER, AC, CRUISE CONTROL, AND THE ABS LIGHT CAME ON. I FOUND THIS SITE LINKED FROM SEVERAL OTHERS THIS MORNING WHEN SEARCHING FOR SOLUTIONS TO THE ISSUE. MOST OF THE SITES LISTED ISSUES CAUSED BY A FAULTY CRUISE CONTROL DEACTIVATION SWITCH. I TOOK THE VAN TO MECHANIC AND THE CRUISE DEACTIVATION SWITCH HAD BEEN LEAKING FLUID AND CAUSED A SHORT AND FUSE #10 TO BLOW. I HAVE HAD THE SWITCHED REPLACED AND THE ENGINE CLEANED FROM THE BRAKE FLUID. THE VAN IS NOW FUNCTIONING AGAIN BUT WOULD LIKE TO REPORT THIS ISSUE AND FIND OUT IF THIS IS GOING TO BE RECALLED BY FORD AS IT IS A POTENTIAL MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE WITH OTHERS FAILURES HAVING CAUSED FIRES. *TR

THE FAILURE COULD CAUSE A FIRE, BUT THERE ARE NO RECALLS AVAILABLE. THE VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY AT THE DEALER FOR REPAIRS. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 128,516 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 120,000.
I OWN A 2000 FORD WINDSTAR VAN. I JUST HAD 2 VALVE STEMS REPLACED ONE WAS DUE TO A FLAT TIRE AND THE OTHER THE MECHANIC SAID WAS BAD. THANK GOODNESS I WASNT DRIVING THE VEHICLE AT THE TIME. I WENT SOMEWHERE PARKED THE VAN AND WHEN I CAME OUT THE TIRE WAS FLAT. AFTER EXAMINING THE TIRE WE DISCOVERED A CRACKED VALVE STEM. *TR
ON 5-22-09 MY FORD WINDSTAR CAUGHT FIRE SITTING IN THE DRIVEWAY AND HAD NOT BEEN DRIVEN SINCE WED. NIGHT AROUND 9:00PM. IT WAS BURNING UNDER THE MASTER CYL. I CALLED KEN STOPEL FORD IN KERRVILLE TX. AND THEY SAID MINE WAS NOT COVERED UNDER THE RECALL. IT'S THE SAME SWITCH THAT IS RECALLED ON OTHER VEHICLES BUT NOT MINE. HE SAID I WAS ON MY ON WITH THE REPAIR. THAT JUST DOES NOT SEEM RIGHT. *TR

WE JUST PURCHASED A 2000 WINDSTAR AND THE ABS LIGHT STARTED COMING ON AND WONT GO OFF. *TR
THE STEERING ON THE VAN STARTING FEELING LOOSE. WE OCCASIONALLY NOTICED A SOUND IN REAR RIGHT WHEN PULLING OUT OF OUR DRIVEWAY. TOOK IT TO THE SHOP TO CHECK TIRES AND SHOCKS. THEY FOUND THE REAR AXLE HAD SNAPPED AND WAS BROKEN 75% OF THE WAY THROUGH. THEY REPLACED THE REAR AXLE. *TR
I OWN A 2000 FORD WINDSTAR, AND THE BRAKE PRESSURE DIFFERENTIAL DEACTIVATION SWITCH HAS BEEN LEAKING, CAUSING BLOWN FUSES, MALFUNCTION OF THE A/C, MALFUNCTION OF THE ABS, LOSS OF CRUISE CONTROL, AND MALFUNCTION OF THE SPEEDOMETER AND ODOMETER. THERE WERE NO EVENTS LEADING TO THE FAILURE. VEHICLE GOT NEW TIRES AND ALIGNMENT THEN TWO DAYS LATER THE VEHICLE STARTED PULLING TO THE LEFT. I WENT BACK TO THE TIRE DEALER, THE MECHANIC CHECK THE ALIGNMENT AND NOTICED THAT THE REAR AXLE HAD A CRACK ON THE DRIVER SIDE AND WAS RUSTED THROUGH. THE CRACK WAS SO SEVERE THAT THE AXLE WAS ALMOST IN TWO PARTS AND AT THE BASE THERE IS A QUARTER INCH SEPARATION IN THE CRACK. THE TIRE IS NO LONGER LAYING FLAT. THE BOTTOM OF THE TIRE IS FACING OUT. IF THE MECHANIC DIDN'T FIND THE FAILURE THERE CERTAINLY WOULD HAVE BEEN A TRAGIC ACCIDENT. *TR
WE HAVE HAD ELEVEN RECALLS ON OUR FORD WINDSTAR VAN TO DATE. OUR CURRENT RECALL ON THE REAR AXLE HAS LEFT US WITH NO WORTHY VEHICLE. THE BOTTOM OF THE VAN IS SO RUSTED OUT THERE ARE HOLES IN IT AND WE WASH IT AND KEEP IT IN THE GARAGE DURING THE WINTER MONTHS. WE HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE BUSHINGS ON THE FRONT OF THE VAN TWO TIMES AND ARE NOW SCHEDULED FOR A 3RD REPLACING. THE SUSPENSION ON THE VAN HAS NEVER BEEN RIGHT AND IT FEELS UNSAFE. REAR AXLE ON 2000 FORD WINDSTAR VAN CRACKED ON DRIVERS SIDE OF VAN. I AM NOT SURE WHEN THE CRACK STARTED, BUT IT WAS FOUND DURING AN INSPECTION OF THE VAN. A QUICK INTERNET SEARCH SHOWS THAT THIS PROBLEM HA CAUSED SAFETY ISSUES ON OTHER VANS. I WILL NEED TO FIND A WAY TO REPAIR THE AXLE, IT APPEARS THE REPLACEMENT PARTS MAY BE AN ISSUE AS WELL. *TR
CHECK ENGINE LIGHT HAS BEEN ON FOR SEVERAL THOUSAND MILES, FROM ABOUT 40,000 TO CURRENT 130,000. THE CODE THAT COMES UP CAN BE 1 OF ABOUT 10 THINGS. NOTHING CORRECTS THIS. I HAVE THE 3.8L ENGINE AND THE "CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT HAS BEEN ON. HAD A MECHANIC PULL THE CODES UP AND THEY ARE BANK 1 RUNNING LEAN AND BANK 2 RUNNING LEAN (P0171) AND (P0174). I HAD BEEN CONCERNED ABOUT A BAD SHIMMY AT 50 MPH ON MY 2000 FORD WINDSTAR, AND I HAD SPOKEN TO MY DEALER ABOUT IT WHEN I HAD THE OIL CHANGED. LESS THAN A WEEK LATER, AS I PULLED FROM MY DRIVEWAY, THE REAR AXLE BROKE COMPLETELY IN TWO.
