TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD WINDSTAR. THE CONTACT RECEIVED RECALL NOTICE 10V385000 (SUSPENSION:REAR:AXLE:NON-POWERED AXLE ASSEMBLY) IN OCTOBER 2010. AS OF MARCH 2011, THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN IN THE DEALERS POSSESSION WAITING TO BE REPAIRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT SIX MONTHS WAS TOO LONG TO WAIT FOR A RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER COULD NOT TELL HIM WHEN THE PARTS WOULD BE AVAILABLE. THERE ARE NO FAILURES AT THIS TIME.
WE HEARD A NOISE WHEN VEHICLE TURNED AND THEN WHILE PULLING AWAY FROM A STOP LIGHT THE SUBFRAME FELL OFF OF THE CAR LANDING ON THE ROAD. IT HAD COMPLETELY RUSTED THROUGH. THE BOLT WAS STILL ATTACHED. THE MECHANIC CONFIRMED THAT IT HAD RUSTED THROUGH. THIS IS A DANGEROUS PROBLEM. *TR
THE SUBFRAME IS RUSTING AND CORRODING WHERE THE CONTROL ARM ATTACHES TO IT. MY VEHICLE WILL NOT PASS INSPECTION. I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS ONLINE AND HAVE LEARNED THAT NHTSA IS INVESTIGATING THIS ON THE FORD WINDSTAR. *TR
MY WINDSTAR IS AT DEALERS FOR BROKEN REAR AXLE AND I WAS TOLD FRONT SUBFRAME IS RUSTED. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD WINDSTAR. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH AND ATTEMPTING TO MAKE A TURN, THE CONTACT HEARD A CLICKING NOISE COMING FROM THE OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE EXHIBITED A SLIGHT VIBRATION FOR A COUPLE OF SECONDS AND CONTINUED IN OPERATION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE A DIAGNOSTIC TEST WAS PERFORMED AND THEY INFORMED THAT THE ENGINE CRADLE COMPLETELY RUSTED DUE TO CORROSION. THE VEHICLE WAS IN THE PROCESS OF BEING REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 142,000. UPDATED 12/01/2011 *LN
MY 2001 FORD WINDSTAR WAS BROUGHT TO MY MECHANIC FOR POTENTIAL PROBLEM WITH FRONT STABILIZATION. UPON LIFTING TO VEHICLE ON THE LIFT, IT WAS OBVIOUS TO THE MECHANIC THAT THE REAR MOUNT ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE SUBFRAME WAS COMPLETELY RUSTED TO THE POINT THAT IT WAS HANGING DOWN. I WAS INSTRUCTED NOT TO DRIVE THIS VEHICLE.. THE ISSUE AT HAND APPEARS TO BE AS IDENTIFIED IN THE NHTSA ACTION NUMBER: PE10026. *TR
INTERIOR DOOR LATCH ON PASSENGER SIDE LOADING DOOR IS BROKEN. DOOR CANNOT BE OPENED FROM THE INSIDE TO RELEASE PASSENGERS FROM REAR SECTION OF THE VEHICLE. *TR
OCCURRENCE: 12 OCTOBER 2010. TRAVELING I-95 WASHINGTON,DC/SUITLAND, MD. VEHICLE: FORD WINDSTAR, 2001. SPEED : 60-65 MPH. TRAFFIC : DENSE. FAILURE OF DEFECTIVE PART : REAR AXLE SNAPPED IN TWO PARTS WHILE TRAVELING ON SMOOTH HIGHWAY, NORTHBOUND. EXPLOSIVE SOUND , LOTS OF SMOKE, EXTREME CONSTERNATION/FEAR OF HEART ATTACK EXPERIENCED BY MY WIFE AND I ( MY WIFE HAS A DANGEROUS HEART CONDITION "IHSS") AT OCCURRENCE. I IMMEDIATELY TURNED ON HAZARD FLASHERS. MANAGED TO MANEUVER ACROSS SEVERAL LANES OF TRAFFIC TO GET TO HIGHWAY SHOULDER SAFELY!! THANK GOD FOR THE ALERT FELLOW TRAVELERS BEHIND US!!! IF WE WERE HIT BY ANY 18-WHEELERS ON THE HIGHWAY, I WOULDN'T BE WRITING THIS COMPLAINT NOW!!! CONCERN FOR OUR SAFETY WAS SHOWN TO US BY FELLOW TRAVELERS; PARTICULARLY, MD TRAFFIC SAFETY PERSON, WHO SHOULD BE COMMENDED BY HIS SUPERIORS FOR HIS PROFESSIONAL AND UNDERSTANDING ACTIONS!! HE LOOKED AT THE DAMAGE AND SAID THAT HE HAD NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE IT BEFORE; AND HE SAID THAT WE WERE LUCKY TO BE ALIVE!!! VAN WAS TRANSPORTED BY PROFESSIONALS TO THE NEAREST FORD DEALERSHIP WHERE I FIRST BECAME AWARE THAT A RECALL NOTICE WAS IN FORCE FOR MY VEHICLE!!! AT THIS POINT, I BECAME GREATLY DISTURBED THAT I HAD NO PREVIOUS NOTIFICATION OF THIS DANGEROUS CONDITION AND THAT MY WIFE, GRAND CHILDREN, ETAL WERE TRAVELING IN POTENTIAL ROLLING COFFIN! IN MY OPINION, THIS SEEMS TO BE CRIMINAL; PARTICULARLY IF GREATER PROFIT MOTIVES MIGHT BE INVOLVED! I CERTAINLY HOPE THAT INFERIOR MATERIALS WERE NOT USED IN THIS REGARD!! I WAS INFORMED THAT MY VAN WOULD HAVE TO REMAIN AT THE FORD DEALERSHIP UNTIL FORD MOTOR COMPANY DECIDES HOW I WILL BE PROVIDED WITH A SAFE VEHICLE , SINCE NO REPLACEMENT AXLES WERE AVAILABLE. (NB ; I HAVE NO IDEA WHATEVER OTHER DAMAGE EXISTS AS A RESULT OF THIS AWFUL FAILURE! I CERTAINLY DON'T WANT A DUPLICATE AXLE REPLACEMENT TO REPLAY THIS HORRIFIC CATASTROPHE! CLUNKING NOISE FROM R/F OF VEHICLE WHEN TURNING LEFT, AND SEVERE PULL WHEN ACCELERATING. FOUND FRONT SUBFRAME RUSTED THRU AND CRACKED AT PASSENGER SIDE REAR MOUNT. HAD TO REPLACE FRONT SUBFRAME. *TR
2001 FORD WINDSTAR 280,000 MILES NE OH 10-11-10. RIGHT SIDE LOWER CONTROL ARM SEPARATED FROM FRAME. 65 MPH FROM LEFT LANE CROSSED 3 LANES RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC. NO WARNING SIGNS SOMEHOW NO COLLISION. AXLE PULLED FROM TRANSMISSION. REPLACED: TIRE, AXLE, BOOTS. FRAME SHOP REINFORCED AND STRAIGHT FRAME, ALIGNED FRONT END. REPAIR DAMAGED TRANSMISSION COOLING LINES AND REQUIRED REPLACEMENT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD WINDSTAR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE RECEIVED THE INITIAL REPAIR FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 12V195000 (SUSPENSION) IN MID OCTOBER OF 2010. THE REMEDY DID NOT REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER INSTALLED REAR AXLE BRACKETS THAT DID NOT SUPPORT THE FRAME. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED THAT THERE WAS A CRACK IN THE REAR FRAME. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE BRACKETS NEEDED TO BE REMOVED TO REPAIR THE CONDITION. THE CONTACT LATER RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V608000 (SUSPENSION) AND THE DEALER SCHEDULED THE REPAIR FOR NOVEMBER 11, 2015. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND THE UNREASONABLE APPOINTMENT DATE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS UNABLE TO PROVIDE A REASONABLE TIME FRAME TO REMEDY THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 182,000.
ABS AND BRAKE LIGHT COME ON WHEN DRIVING A FEW MILES AFTER STARTING CAR, ANTI LOCK BRAKES DO NOT WORK. IF YOU SHUT CAR OFF AND START BACK UP THE LIGHTS WILL GO OFF , THEY WILL COME BACK ON SOMETIME OR STAY OF FOR SEVERAL HUNDRED MILES. THERE WERE NO CODES STORED TO BRING UP . THE SPEED CONTROL DEACTIVATION SWITCH HAS BEEN CHANGE . *TR
ON A SUNDAY EVENING, OCTOBER 10, AROUND 9:00 P.M., WHILE MAKING A TURN INTO MY STREET,, I HEARD A LOUD NOISE, THE VAN ABRUPTLY STOPPED LEAVING MOST OF THE VEHICLE IN BETWEEN TWO ROADS. THE VAN COULD NOT BE PUSHED OUT OF THE WAY. THE POLICE RESPONDED TO REDIRECT TRAFFIC AND CALLED FOR A FLAT BED TOW WHICH COST $180! THEY NEEDED TO BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL SO THAT THE TIRES OR OTHER PARTS WOULD NOT BE DAMAGED. WITHOUT KNOWING WHAT WAS WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE, IT WAS TOWED TO MY REPAIR SHOP. THE NEXT DAY I WAS INFORMED THEY COULD NOT DO THE REPAIR. THEN IT WAS TOWED TO A REPAIR SHOP THAT COULD DO THE REPAIR (ANOTHER $40). I UNDERSTAND THE FRAME CRACKED. THE REPAIR SHOP REMOVED AXEL SHAFT, SEAL REBUILT FRAME AT REAR OF LOWER CONTROL ARM AND UNDERCOAT. INSTALLED NEW SEAL, AXEL ASSEMBLY AND FLUID FOR THE COST OF $546. I CAN'T IMAGINE THE OUTCOME IF THIS HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING HOME FROM WORK ON THE THRUWAY DOING 65 MPH. *TR
2001 FORD WINDSTAR SPORT MINIVAN WAS PARKED. ONE PERSON ENTERED THRU THE DRIVERS SIDE SLIDING DOOR AND PUSHED THE BUTTON TO OPEN THE SLIDING DOOR ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. LOUD POPPING NOISE WAS HEARD AND REAR PASSENGER SIDE WINDOW EXPLODED. LARGE CHUNKS OF GLASS WERE SHATTERED BOTH INSIDE AND OUTSIDE THE CAR. MINOR CUTS FROM THE GLASS WERE SUSTAINED. WINDOW WAS REPLACED AT MY EXPENSE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD WINDSTAR. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 1 MPH, THE CONTACT HEARD A LOUD BANG AND THE VEHICLE WOULD NO LONGER ACCELERATE. UPON EXAMINING THE VEHICLE, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE WHEEL WAS POINTED IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION OF THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE WHEEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE; IT HAD NOT BEEN INSPECTED OR REPAIRED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 132,000. THE CONSUMER STATED EVEN BEFORE THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED THE GARAGE, HE COULD SEE THAT THE BRACKET THAT HELD THE LOWER CONTROL ARM TO THE FRAME HAD COMPLETELY BROKEN OFF THE FRAME. WHEN THE CONTROL ARM LOST THAT ATTACHING POINT, THE WHEEL WAS ALLOWED TO PULL AWAY AND ALSO PULLED THE AXLE SHAFT AWAY FROM THE TRANSMISSION. THE SUBFRAME AND TRANSMISSION SEAL HAD TO BE REPLACED. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD WINDSTAR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR REPAIRS FOR RECALL 10V385000 (SUSPENSION: REAR: AXLE: NON-POWERED AXLE ASSEMBLY). THE DEALER STATED THAT THE PARTS FOR REPAIRS WERE NOT AVAILABLE AND THEY DID NOT KNOW WHEN TO EXPECT THEM. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 92,000.
I WAS TOLD BY MY MECHANIC IN OCTOBER 2010 THAT I HAVE A CRACK IN THE FRONT SUBFRAME ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE.
VEHICLE BEGAN TO PULL DRAMATICALLY WHEN OPERATED AND COULD NOT BE ALIGNED PROPERLY. MAKES A LOUD THUMPING SOUND WHEN DRIVEN. THE FRONT RIGHT SUB FRAME HAS CORRODED SUCH THAT IT HAS NEARLY BROKEN OFF. I HAVE SPOKEN TO SEVERAL MECHANICS AND THERE IS NO REPAIR THAT CAN BE DONE SHORT OF A REPLACEMENT OF THE FRONT SUB FRAME. IT IS TO THE POINT WHERE THE ENGINE WILL DROP OUT OF THE VEHICLE AND THE RIGHT FRONT WHEEL WILL NO LONGER BE ATTACHED TO THE VEHICLE. WHILE I HAVE HAD THE VEHICLE IN FOR ALIGNMENT, IT CAN NOT BE ALIGNED AGAIN AND I HAVE BEEN ADVISED THAT THE CONDITION IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE IN TO A FORD DEALER FOR OTHER RECALL WORK AND WAS ADVISED THAT THERE IS NO RECALL FOR THIS DANGEROUS CONDITION. *TR
INTERMITTENT ABS AND BRAKE WARNING LIGHTS ON SINCE 2009 - 6 YEARS WITHOUT RELIABLE ABS BRAKING SYSTEM DUE TO A POOR MANUFACTURING ISSUE AND STILL NO RECALL. PLEASE INVESTIGATE!!
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD WINDSTAR. WHILE HAVING THE VEHICLE EXAMINED BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR STEERING ISSUES, THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE SUB FRAME WAS CORRODED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 116,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO STATED THAT THE PART WAS UNAVAILABLE UNTIL MARCH OF 2011. THE CONTACT STATED THE DEALER WOULD PROVIDE A LOANER VEHICLE AT THE MANUFACTURER'S EXPENSE; HOWEVER, THE OWNER WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE TAXES ON THE LOANER VEHICLE. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE RECALL REMEDY WAS NOT BEING PERFORMED WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME. THERE WAS NO FAILURE MILEAGE.

WHILE THE DEALER INSPECTED THE REAR AXLE FOR RECALL 10V385000 SUSPENSION: REAR: AXLE: NON-POWERED AXLE ASSEMBLY THEY ALSO LOCATED A FAILURE AT THE FRONT H FRAME WHICH WAS CORRODED AND SEPARATED. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE FAILURE WASN'T RECALLED, BUT IF A RECALL WAS ISSUED IN THE FUTURE HE COULD BE REIMBURSED FOR THE REPAIR. THE VEHICLE WASN'T REPAIRED. I WAS DRIVING DOWN I-75 IN TOLEDO OHIO AT 70 MPH WHEN MY REAR AXLE BROKE IN HALF ON MY 2001 FORD WINDSTAR MINIVAN. LOST CONTROL BUT WAS ABLE TO NOT HIT ANYONE OR ROLL OVER. I HAVE HAD NO HELP FROM FORD AND NOTHING BUT A RUN AROUND FROM THEM HELP!!! I HAVE 4 CHILDREN AND NO TRANSPORTATION. MY ELDEST DAUGHTER HAS NO BUSING IN OUR COUNTY SO I HAVE TO TRANSPORT BOTH WAYS AND NO VEHICLE. NO WAY TO GET GROCERIES OR DR. APPTS. FORD PROMISED ME A RENTAL BUT 9 DAYS HAVE GONE BY AND NO HELP. WHAT DO I DO? THEY ARE TELLING ME IT WILL BE OVER THREE MONTHS BEFORE I CAN HAVE MY VAN REPAIRED. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR A RECALL REPAIR UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID 10V385000 (SUSPENSION:REAR:AXLE:NON-POWERED AXLE ASSEMBLY), AND DURING THE INSPECTION THE TECHNICIAN NOTICED THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE REAR MOUNT ENGINE CRADLE WAS CRACKED WITH SUBSTANTIAL CORROSION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 130,000.
I HAVE WINDSTAR 2001. MY BRAKE LIGHT AND ABS LIGHT WERE ON. I SEARCHED THE INTERNET AND FOUND THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE AXLE, THAT MAY HAVE SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE LIGHTS BEING ON. THIS WAS IN SEPT. 2010. I WENT TO THE DEALER,THEY TOLDME THE AXLE WAS CRACKED AND THAT THEY WOULD HAVE TO HOLD MY VAN. IT IS NOW DEC.2010,I AM DRIVING A RENTAL. NO WORD AS TO WHEN I WILL BE GETTING MY VAN BACK. FORD WANTS ME TO LOOK AT NEW CARS. MONTHLY PAYMENTS OF ABOUT $400.00. I AM SR.CITIZEN AND CANNOT AFFORD THIS. MY VAN HAS 57000 MILES, HOW SAFE WILL THIS BE WHEN I GET IT BACK? DO I NEED TO LOOK FOR ANOTHER VEHICLE. MY HUSBAND IS DESABLED AND NEEDS A LARGE VAN TO GET IN AND OUT OF. BRAKING DISTANCE SUDDENLY INCREASED : ABS LIGHT GOES ON AND OFF INTERMITTENTLY AND WHEN IT GOES ON BRAKES DO NOT FUNCTION NORMALLY AND CAUSE INCREASED BRAKING DISTANCE WITHOUT WARNING. TWICE NOW INCLUDING TODAY I HAVE BEEN PARKING MY CAR (SO MAYBE 5 MPH) AND THE ABS BRAKES FAILED TO FUNCTION PROPERLY AND THE LIGHT LIT UP AND IF A CURB WAS NOT BETWEEN ME AND THE BUILDING I WAS PARKING AT ACTING AS A BUFFER AND HELPING SLOW THE CAR TO A STOP, I POSSIBLY COULD HAVE HIT IT OR CRASHED. I ALSO ALMOST HIT A CAR IN FRONT OF ME RECENTLY , POSSIBLY WITHIN AND INCH, WHEN IT SLOWED/STOPPED SOMEWHAT SUDDENLY (BUT NOT OVERLY SO) AND THEN I HAD TO SLOW/STOP AND MY ABS LIGHT THEN SUDDENLY CAME ON AND MY ABS BRAKES FAILED TO STOP ME IN THE USUAL WAY AND USUAL DISTANCE FOR THE PRESSURE I WAS APPLYING (WHICH WAS STOPPING FAST BUT NOT SLAMMING ON THE BRAKES) AND I COULD FEEL A SORT OF "STUTTERING" OR "VIBRATION" OF THE BRAKES AND "SLIPPING" WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE PEDDLE AS IF IT WERE TRYING TO ENGAGE BUT NOT SUCCESSFULLY ENGAGING. AT FIRST THIS INTERMITTENT ABS BRAKE LIGHT GOING ON WAS ONLY OCCASIONALLY BUT NOW IT IS BECOMING MORE AND MORE FREQUENT AND PUTTING ME AND MY FAMILY IN VERY DANGEROUS SITUATIONS TO WHERE EVEN THOUGH THE ABS BRAKE LIGHT TURNS OFF AS IF IT IS WORKING FINE AGAIN, I NOW KNOW IT IS NOT WORKING FINE AND THAT THE BRAKES COULD STOP FUNCTIONING PROPERLY AT ANY MOMENT. THE LIGHT ONLY GOES ON WHEN I AM PRESSING ON THE BRAKE PEDDLE (BUT NOT EVERY TIME I BRAKE), IT DOES NOT LIGHT UP WITHOUT THAT AS A PRE-REQUISITE. THEN IT WILL EITHER STAY LIT FOR A FEW MINUTES AND GO AWAY OR IT WILL STAY LIT UNTIL I TURN MY CAR OFF AND GO AWAY THE NEXT TIME I START THE CAR UP. *TR

THE DEALER ALSO ADVISED THAT THE STEERING COMPONENTS, TRANSMISSION, DRIVE TRAIN AND FRAME WOULD NEED REPLACING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 140,000.

THE DEALERSHIP AND THE FORD CUSTOMER RELATIONS DEPT. WILL NOT GIVE US A DEFINITE ANSWER AS TO WHEN WE CAN EXPECT A RESOLUTION. WE WERE GIVEN A 30 DAY RENTAL AND 14 DAYS HAVE PASSED AND NO ANSWERS. WE ARE GIVEN $30 A DAY FOR A RENTAL CAR BY FORD BUT MUST PAY TAXES TOTALING $3.30 A DAY. THE VOUCHER IS $38 DAILY WITH $8 USED FOR INSURANCE IF NEEDED. WE PAY THROUGH OUR PRIVATE INSURANCE COMPANY FOR SUCH COVERAGE. WHY CANNOT FORD USE THE ADDITIONAL $8 A DAY TO COVER OUR TAXES? WHILE DRIVING MY 2001 FORD WINDSTAR ON M-20 NEAR REMUS, MI I HEARD A LOUD BOOM FROM THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. I PULLED OFF OF THE ROAD TO INVESTIGATE AND FOUND THE DRIVER SIDE FRONT COIL SPRING BROKEN. I HAD TO REPLACE THE SPRING AND STRUT ASSEMBLY ON THAT SIDE. I WAS TOLD THAT I SHOULD REPLACE THE OTHER SIDE AS WELL. BOTH FRONT SPRING/STRUT ASSEMBLIES WERE REPLACED AT MY PERSONAL COST. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE FAILURE WAS CAUSED BY CORROSION. THE CONTACT CALLED THE DEALER AND REFERENCED RECALL 10V385000 (SUSPENSION: REAR: AXLE: NON-POWERED AXLE ASSEMBLY) AND WAS TOLD THAT THE REPAIRS WOULD NOT BE COVERED BECAUSE THE RECALL WAS RELATED TO THE REAR AXLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 100,700 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 100,900.
OUR 2001 FORD WINDSTAR STARTED MAKING A POPPING NOISE A COUPLE OF MONTHS AGO, USUALLY AT SLOW SPEEDS AND WHILE TURNING. I STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT AND NOTICED SMOKE PUFF OUT FROM UNDER THE LEFT SIDE OF MY HOOD. I THOUGHT I WAS OVERHEATING, BUT MY TEMP GAUGE SHOWED NOTHING. AS I PULLED AWAY FROM THE RED LIGHT AND OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD I NOTICED MY ABS LIGHT AND MY BRAKE LIGHT HAD COME ON AND MY O/D LIGHT BEGAN FLASHING. MY SPEEDOMETER AND ODOMETER HAD COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN. I CHECKED UNDER THE HOOD AND SAW NO VISIBLE PROBLEMS. I DROVE THE VEHICLE BACK HOME AND OVER THE NEXT FEW DAYS I NOTICED I WAS LOSING BRAKE FLUID AND BRAKE PRESSURE. I PARKED THE VEHICLE AND BEGAN DRIVING A SECOND VEHICLE UNTIL I COULD GET A MECHANIC TO CHECK OUT THE WINDSTAR. I TOOK IT TO MY MECHANIC AND HE SAID THE BRAKE FLUID WAS LEAKING AROUND THE BRAKE PRESSURE DIFFERENTIAL DEACTIVATION SWITCH IN FRONT OF THE MASTER CYLINDER. HE SAID HE HAD HEARD THERE HAD BEEN PROBLEMS WITH THIS ON WINDSTARS AND RECOMMENDED I CHECK TO SEE IF THERE HAD BEEN A RECALL, WHICH I AM DOING NOW. *TR
NO ACCIDENTS YET, MY ABS LIGHT AND BRAKE LIGHT COME ON WITHIN THE FIRST MILE EVERYDAY I USE MY WINDSTAR AND THE ABS ACTIVATES AND OFTEN MY 2001 FORD WINDSTAR HAS AN UGLY NOISE AND THE BRAKE PEDAL PULSATES AND THE CAR DOES NOT WANT TO STOP, JUST LIKE IT WOULD IN AN ANTI-SKID SITUATION. I HAVE REPLACED FRONT BRAKES, ROTORS, CALIPERS, RF WHEEL SENSOR (PURCHASE ABS CODE READER AND STILL GET RF SENSOR CODES). RECENTLY I TOOK MY WINDSTAR TO FORD AND REPLACED THE BRAKE-CRUISE CONTROL RECALL. I QUESTIONED MY DEALER ABOUT THE ABS AND THEY HAVE NO CLUE ALMOST LIKE I NEEDED TO LEAVE IT AND THEY WOULD CHECK IT OUT AND TRY TO LOCATE THE CAUSE. I DO NOT WANT ANYONE TO START REPLACING PARTS THAT I HAVE REPLACED ESPECIALLY THE ONES I REPLACE MORE THEN ONCE. I HEAR ALOT OF TALK ABOUT A CONTROL MODULE BEING BAD SO I THINK IF THAT IS THE REMEDY IT SHOULD BE REPLACED AT NO CHARGE BY FORD AND I WON'T DEMAND THEY REIMBURSE TO ME THE MONEY I HAVE ALREADY SPENT TO REMEDY THIS PROBLEM. ON 1/26/2011 THE DEALER CALLED AND SAID MY AXLE HAD BEEN REPAIRED AND THAT I COULD PICK THE CAR UP. I COULDN'T PICK IT UP THAT DAY. ON 1/27/11 I HEARD THE NEWS STATE A NEW RECALL AND I LOOKED IT UP. TURNS OUT MY CAR IS INVOLVED IN THAT RECALL TOO. I WENT TO THE DEALER AND I COMMUNICATED TO THEM THAT I DO NOT WANT THAT VEHICLE BACK UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. THE ABS LIGHT HAS BEEN MALFUNCTIONING FOR THREE YEARS OR MORE. SINCE I GOT THE VEHICLE I HAD MANY PROBLEMS WITH SENSORS AND I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION AFTER HAVING ONLY AROUND 78,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE. I COMPLETED ALL MAINTENANCE ON MY VEHICLE AS SUGGESTED BY FORD, YET I HAVE HAD SO MANY PROBLEMS. I CALLED FORD ON 1/27 AND TOLD THEM I DO NOT WANT THE VEHICLE BACK.
