I BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE IN MARCH OF 2010. TWO MONTHS AFTER BUYING IT I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM L.A. AND DIDN'T NOTICE UNTIL TO LATE THAT THE OD OFF LIGHT WAS FLASHING. I HAD IT TOWED TO AMMCO AND WAS TOLD THAT THE TORQUE CONVERTER WENT OUT AND THAT THE TRANS HAD TO BE REPLACED. SO THIS IS WHAT I HAD DONE. SINCE I HAD THIS REPLACEMENT DONE WITH THE TRANSMISSION I HAVE HAD THE OD OFF LIGHT FLASH ON AND OFF PERIODICALLY. EVERY TIME THE LIGHT COMES ON I RUN IT BACK OVER TO AMMCO AND THEY TEST IT TO FIND THE SAME CODE OVER AND OVER, TORQUE CONVERTER/CLUTCH ERROR. THEY HAVE SINCE REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION A SECOND TIME, CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS AND SPOKE WITH SEVERAL SOURCES OF THEIRS AND THEY CANNOT FIND THE PROBLEM. THEY HAVE SINCE TOLD ME THAT THERE IS NOTHING ELSE THAT CAN BE DONE AND THINK THAT IT MAY BE CAUSED BY THE ABS/BRAKE LIGHT OCCASIONALLY COMING ON. *LN
2001 FORD WINDSTAR - RECALL 09S09 COMPLETED - ABS AND BRAKE LIGHTS ON DASHBOARD STILL COME ON. PER INTERNET RESEARCH - ABS ECM BRAKE MODULE 2C219 AND "BRAKING DISTANCE SUDDENLY INCREASED." *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD WINDSTAR. WHILE DRIVING AT 30 MPH, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE SWAYED BACK AND FORTH. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A REPAIR SHOP WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE REAR AXLE WAS BROKEN. THE MECHANIC DID NOT MENTION RUST BUT STATED THAT THE AXLE WAS HANGING BY A THREAD. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 74,000.

2001 FORD WINDSTAR REAR AXLE BROKE IN HALF. *TR
MY 2001 FORD WINDSTAR WAS MAKING AN ABNORMAL SOUND AND 'SWAYING'. WHEN I LOOKED UNDERNEATH, I SAW A LARGE CRACK IN THE REAR AXEL. FURTHER INSPECTION BY MY MECHANIC REVEALED APPROXIMATELY A 70-75% CRACK THROUGH THE AXEL. I WAS TOLD IT COULD BE REPLACED WITH EITHER A NEW AXEL (ON BACKORDER FROM FORD) OR WITH ONE FROM THE JUNKYARD. I CHOSE NEITHER AS I WAS CONCERNED OVER THE SAFETY OF MY CHILDREN. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD WINDSTAR. WHILE TURNING AT APPROXIMATELY 2 MPH, THE REAR AXLE BROKE IN HALF. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN INSPECTED OR REPAIRED AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 120,000. UPDATED 11/03/10. *LJ

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD WINDSTAR. HE STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING OVER A BUMP AT UNKNOWN SPEEDS, THE REAR END OF THE VEHICLE SWERVED AND PRODUCED AN ABNORMAL NOISE. UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION, THE CONTACT FOUND THAT THE REAR SUSPENSION HAD FRACTURED. THE DEALER ADVISED THE REPAIRS WOULD BE AT THE CONTACT'S EXPENSE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. WHILE ON VACATIONING IN VERMONT. THE YELLOW ABS LIGHT AND THE RED BRAKE LIGHT CAME ON. IM A MECHANIC SO I HAD THE CODE READER FOR THE ABS SYSTEM. THE CODE WAS THE INFAMOUS TELL TALE C1185. I REPLACED THE ABS MODULE ONCE. UNFORTUNATELY THE PROBLEM HAS MANIFESTED AGAIN. I'M TEMPTED TO DO AWAY WITH THE SYSTEM, BUT THE WINDSTAR TRANSPORTS MY YOUNG CHILDREN AROUND. ITS LIKE HAVING A GUN TO MY HEAD. WHAT DO I DO? *TR
AFTER HAVING THE FORD WINDSTAR OCT. 09 09S09 RECALL FIXED ON OUR 2001 WINDSTAR DUE TO LEAKS AND MALFUNCTIONING A/C AND CRUISE CONTROL, THE ABS AND BRAKE INDICATOR LIGHTS ARE STILL INTERMITTENTLY LIGHTING ON THE DASHBOARD. THE FORD DEALER WE TOOK IT TO SAID THAT WHEN THOSE ARE ON, WE HAVE NO ABS SYSTEM BECAUSE THE ECM IS MALFUNCTIONING AT THOSE TIMES. WE'RE SEEING INCREASED BRAKING DISTANCE WITH THIS PROBLEM. *TR
1. VIBRATION IN STEERING WHEEL. 2. REAR AXEL BROKE IN 2 PLACES ON THE NEW JERSEY TURNPIKE. THE CAR VEERED UNCONTROLLABLY ALMOST CAUSING A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. 3. THE CAR WAS TOWED 90 MILES TO OUR LOCAL SERVICE STATION WHERE AXEL WAS REPLACED WITH A USED PART. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD WINDSTAR. WHILE DRIVING AT 40 MPH, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE REAR END OF THE VEHICLE WAS SWAYING LEFT TO RIGHT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A REPAIR SHOP WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE REAR AXLE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 106,000.
2001 FORD WINDSTAR SE SPORT REAR AXLE BROKE IN HALF WITH NO WARNING. FORTUNATELY, THE CAR WAS COMING TO A STOP AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT, NOT AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, WHEN A LOUD CLUNK WAS HEARD. MANAGED TO PULL INTO A PARKING LOT NEARBY, AND THE REAR TIRES WERE TILTED INWARD. THE AXLE WAS SNAPPED IN HALF TOWARDS THE DRIVER'S SIDE. TOW TRUCK DRIVER SAID HE HAS SEEN SEVERAL OF THESE THE PAST TWO YEARS AND DOESN'T KNOW WHY A RECALL HASN'T OCCURRED. MY FORD DEALER SAID THIS WAS THE THIRD ONE THEY SAW. *TR

MY AXEL BROKE ON MY 2001 FORD WINDSTAR AND I ALMOST GOT KILLED ON A HIGHWAY. I HAD TO PULL ON NARROW SHOULDER LANE. I HAD IT TOWED AND HAD TO PAY 625. TO HAVE IT FIXED. I JUST READ THIS WEEK THEY ARE INVESTIGATING AND THEIR IS CLASS ACTION SUIT ABOUT THESE AXLES HOW DO I GET RECALL INFO AND REPORT THIS? *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD WINDSTAR. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH THE CONTACT HEARD A RUBBING NOISE UNDERNEATH THE REAR END OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO CONFIRMED THAT THE REAR AXLE WAS BENT. THE REAR AXLE WAS REPLACED BY THE INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE FAILURE HAS NOT RECURRED SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED; HOWEVER, TRANSMISSION FLUID HAS LEAKED OUT OF THE VEHICLE. THE TRANSMISSION LEAK WAS NOT DIAGNOSED BY THE DEALER. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 123,000.
I HAVE A 2001 FORD WINDSTAR THAT HAS PROBLEMS WITH THE "BRAKE" AND "ABS" LIGHTS COMING ON 95% OF THE TIME. THE ISSUE HAS BEEN CHECKED BY NO LESS THAN 2 SHOPS AND BOTH HAVE DETERMINED THAT THE ISSUE IS A FAULTY ABS MODULE. AFTER SOME ONLINE RESEARCH I HAVE FOUND THIS TO BE A VERY COMMON ISSUE AND I BELIEVE THAT IT SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED. THE ABS NOT WORKING PROPERLY CAN RESULT IN ISSUES WHEN TRYING TO STOP IN INCLEMENT WEATHER. *TR
2001 FORD WINDSTAR MINIVAN REAR AXEL BREAK. WENT ON-LINE AND HAVE READ HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT REAR AXLES BREAKING IN HALF. NO OTHER CARS AXLES ARE BREAKING. *TR
2001 FORD WINDSTAR REAR AXLE BROKE IN HALF ABOUT 16 INCHES FROM LEFT REAR WHEEL. ISN'T IT FUNNY HOW THERE HAVE BEEN SO MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS ISSUE FOR ALL MODEL YEARS OF THE WINDSTAR AND NO COMPLAINTS WITH THE FREESTAR'S REAR AXLE. THIS IS DUE TO FORD KNOWING THAT THE AXLE ON THE WINDSTAR WAS FAULTY AND RE-DESIGNED THE AXLE FOR THE FREESTAR. I DON'T KNOW WHY PEOPLE POST A COMPLAINT ON THIS SITE; BECAUSE IF THERE ISN'T A FIRE OR A CRASH THEY COULD CARE LESS. I CANNOT BELIEVE THAT THIS ISN'T A SAFETY ISSUE THAT ISN'T WORTH LOOKING INTO. I AM SO TIRED OF THESE GOVERNMENT AGENCY THAT ARE IN BED WITH THE AUTO MANUFACTURERS. DO YOUR JOBS AND SAVE SOME LIVES. *TR
ON MAY 7, 2010 MY 2001 FORD WINDSTAR THE AXLE BROKE ON ME COMING FROM PICKING UP THE KIDS FROM SCHOOL CAUSING AN ACCIDENT WITH THE VAN FLIPPING OVER TWO TIMES. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD WINDSTAR. WHILE DRIVING AT SPEEDS OF 25 MPH, THE REAR AXLE BROKE IN HALF. THE VEHICLE WAS LEFT AT THE SCENE OF THE INCIDENT AND WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 115,000.
I HAVE A 2001 FORD WINDSTAR THAT HAS THE REAR AXLE CRACKED ALMOST COMPLETELY THROUGH. I CANNOT DRIVE THE VAN BECAUSE IT'S MAKING A LOT OF CREAKING SOUNDS AS IF THE AXLE WILL BREAK. I'VE CONTACTED FORD AND HAVE NOT GOTTEN ANY RESPONSE. *TR
2001 FORD WINDSTAR MINI VAN WITH ABOUT 80,000 MILES. REAR AXEL SNAPPED IN HALF WHILE DRIVING MY KIDS TO SOCCER. WE WERE LUCKY THAT WE WERE IN A RESIDENTIAL AREA CLOSE TO HOME. IT COST US CLOSE TO $900 TO FIX. WE HAVE THE OLD PART WHICH SHOWED RUST. MECHANIC SAID HE HAD NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE IT AND RECOMMENDED WE REPORT IT. WE WOULD LIKE A RECALL AND REIMBURSEMENT FOR THE REPAIR. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD WINDSTAR. THE CONTACT HAD THE CRUISE CONTROL SET AT 60 MPH WHEN THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED TO OVER 60 MPH. WHEN THE CONTACT APPLIED THE BRAKE, THE CRUISE CONTROL DID NOT DISENGAGE. WHEN THE CONTACT SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL, THE CRUISE CONTROL DISENGAGED. THE FAILURE OCCURRED TWICE AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIRS FOR RECALL 09V399000 (VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL). THE CONTACT PLANNED TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR DIAGNOSIS. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 18,000.

MY HUSBAND WAS BACKING OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY AT WORK, WHEN THE TIRES WERE TURNED INWARD BECAUSE OF THE BREAK IN THE REAR AXLE. AFTER HAVING IT TOWED MY HUSBAND BOUGHT A REAR AXLE FROM ANOTHER VEHICLE AND REPLACED THE BROKEN ONE. *TR

HE STATED IF HE HAD BEEN DRIVING, THE FAILURE COULD HAVE POTENTIALLY CAUSED A CRASH. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT YET BEEN CONTACTED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 100,000.
MY VAN WINDSTAR 2001 REAR AXLE BROKE DURING DRIVING. FORD ASKED WHAT DID WE DO TO DRIVE SO POORLY TO CAUSE THIS? GAVE US A PRICE OF $1,500.00 AT LEAST TO REPAIR. *TR
1. SEEMS AS IF IN WARMER WEATHER MONTHS(MAY-OCT) THE ABS, BRAKE WARNING LIGHTS COME ON INTERMITTENTLY....NOT AT ALL IN RAINY COOLER/ FREEZING MONTHS (NOV-APR) 2. ALMOST EVERYDAY THE ABS, BRAKE WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATE ON THE DASH. NO ABS WHEN THE LIGHTS ARE ILLUMINATED....CAUSING LONGER BRAKING TIMES IN AN EMERGENCY STOP, OR POSSIBLY A COLLISION IN WET WEATHER. 3.WE WERE TOLD APPROX. $1300.00 PARTS AND LABOR OUT OF OUR POCKET IF WE WANT IT CORRECTED TO REPLACE THE ABS CONTROL MODULE....I GUESS WE WILL RISK IT....THANKS FORD FOR YOUR OUTSTANDING QUALITY!!!
ABS AND BRAKE LIGHTS IS ON AT THE DASHBOARD AND ABS DOESN'T WORK. *TR
ABS LIGHT HAS BEEN ON FOR YEARS. TOOK THE VEHICLE TO GET SERVICED ASSUMING BRAKES WERE NEEDING MAINTENANCE DUE TO ILLUMINATED ABS LIGHT ON PANEL AND BREAKS SQUEAKING. RELIABLE MECHANIC SHOP INFORMED ME THAT THE VEHICLES BRAKES WERE FINE AND NO REPLACEMENT IS NEEDED, BUT THAT MY ABS WOULD NOT FUNCTION PROPERLY. I WAS TOLD THE ABS LIGHT WAS ELECTRICAL AND THAT IT WOULD COST A LOT TO FIX (DON'T RECALL THE COST). THE BRAKES HAVE FAILED TWICE RECENTLY WITH BRAKES LOCKING AND NO ABS. AFTER RESEARCHING I SEE THE ABS WARNING LIGHT IS AN ISSUE WITH THIS VEHICLE AND NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS HAVE BEEN MADE. RECALL SHOULD BE MADE BEFORE PEOPLE GET HURT!! *JS

HAD FORD MOTOR COMPANY RECALL 09S09 THAT WAS ISSUED IN OCTOBER OF 2009 PERFORMED ON MY VEHICLE. WIRE HARNESS WAS REPLACE, NO LEAKS FOUND, HOWEVER THE YELLOW ABS AND RED BRAKE DASH LIGHTS REMAIN ON. RESEARCH INDICATES THAT THE YELLOW AND RED LIGHTS ON THE DASH INDICATE A POSSIBLE ECM FAILURE WHICH HAS RESULTED IN FIRES IN SEVERAL INSTANCES. *TR

REAR AXLE ON MY SON'S 2001 FORD WINDSTAR CRACKED ALMOST ALL THE WAY THROUGH ON THE DRIVERS SIDE. ABOUT 14 INCHES FROM THE WHEEL. BOTH REAR TIRES WERE WRECKED BECAUSE OF RUBBING INSIDE OF WHEEL WELL. *TR

NO RECALL NOTICE SENT TO ME REGARDING CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH RECALL THAT COULD CAUSE FIRE WHILE DRIVING OR IDLE. MY 2001 FORD WINDSTAR WAS PARKED IN MY DRIVEWAY APPROXIMATELY 5:30 PM ON 04/21/2010 AND AT 10:57 THE ENGINE CAUGHT FIRE AND BLEW UP. THE FIRE ALSO MELTED THE SIDING ON THE HOUSE. *TR

I HAVE A 2001 FORD WINDSTAR SEL WHICH WAS CURRENTLY SERVICED FOR THE BRAKE SWITCH RECALL. PLEASE NOTE THE SWITCH WAS FINE AND NO FLUID WAS FOUND ON CONNECTORS.THE ABS UNIT IN THE VAN HAS ISSUE WITH ACTIVATION AND DEACTIVATION PRIMARILY IN WARM WEATHER. WHEN TEMP EXCEED 70 DEGREES. COMPLETE FAILURE OF THE ABS UNIT, SPEEDOMETER, ODOMETER, AND EMISSIONS SYSTEM RESULTS. THE FUSE LOCATED IN THE NUMBER 10 SLOT WILL CONTINUE TO FAIL, AND IN MY CASE WONT ALLOW ANOTHER FUSE TO WORK PROPERLY UNTIL THE TEMPS OUTSIDE ARE COOLER. HERE IS THE MAJOR PROBLEM IN THIS WHEN THE FUSE WILL ACCEPT, WHILE I'M DRIVING AND THE WEATHER STARTS TO WARM UP THE ABS ECM STARTS TO EXPAND THUS CREATING CONTACTS OR BREAKING CONTACTS INSIDE THE ECM. WHEN TALKING TO THE SERVICE DEPT AT CURRIE FORD ILLINOIS THEY ARE COMPLETELY UNAWARE OF THE PROBLEM. THIS IS SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE THAT NEED TO BE ADDRESSED BY FORD AND INCLUDED IN THEIR CURRENT RECALL. AS I STATED BEFORE, THE RECALLED ITEM IN MY CASE WAS IN PERFECT WORKING ORDER.. I BELIEVE THIS IS THE HEART OF THE REAL PROBLEM AND THIS SHOULDN'T HAVE TO COME FROM THE WALLETS OF THE CONSUMERS. THE REAL ISSUE IS POORLY DESIGNED ELECTRONIC WERE PLACE IN THEIR VEHICLES. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2001 FORD WINDSTAR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED IT EXPLODED AND BURST INTO FLAMES. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACTS HOME ALSO CAUGHT FIRE. THE POLICE AND FIRE DEPARTMENT WERE CALLED AND WERE ABLE TO EXTINGUISH THE FIRE. THE CONTACT DID NOT REPORT ANY INJURIES. A POLICE AND FIRE REPORT WERE FILED ACCORDINGLY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED BUT NO ASSISTANCE WAS PROVIDED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE UNAVAILABLE.

I HAVE HAD MY 2001 FORD WINDSTAR FOR 4 YEARS, AND I HAVE REPLACED THE BRAKES PADS AND ROTORS 5 TIMES AND LOOKS LIKE I WILL BE ON MY 6TH REPLACEMENT SOON...THE ABS LIGHT ON THE DASHBOARD KEEPS ON IN THE ENGAGED AND WILL NOT RELEASE. *TR
MY 2001 FORD WINDSTAR'S BRAKES WERE LOCKED AND I COULD NOT DISENGAGE THEM. I HAD THE CAR SERVICED FOR THIS PROBLEM MANY TIMES, MOST RECENTLY IN JANUARY OF 2010 WHEN I WAS TOLD THAT THEY DETERMINED THAT THE PROBLEM WAS THE REAR SPEED SENSOR. THEY REPLACED IT AND TOLD ME IT WAS ALL SET AND WOULDN'T HAPPEN AGAIN. YESTERDAY (4/6/2010) WHILE I WAS TRAVELLING IN INTERSTATE 95 SOUTH IT HAPPENED AGAIN WITH DISASTROUS CONSEQUENCES. I PUT MY BRAKES ON TO SLOW DOWN BUT INSTEAD OF SLOWING DOWN MY CAR CAME TO A SCREECHING HALT IN THE LEFT LANE OF FAST MOVING TRAFFIC. WE WERE HIT TWICE AND THE CAR WAS TOTALED ALONG WITH THE OTHER CARS INVOLVED. I AM WONDERING IF THIS HAS HAPPENED WITH OTHER 2001 FORD WINDSTARS. *TR
REAR AXLE OF 2001 WINDSTAR BROKE IN HALF. *TR
