THE ABS AND BRAKE LIGHT INDICATORS TURN ON SPORADICALLY AND REMAIN ON UNTIL THE CAR IS RESTARTED. I HAVE WATCHED FOR SOME PATTERNS, BUT SEEN FEW. COOLER WEATHER KEEPS THEM OFF LONGER AND WHEN IT IS HOTTER OUT, THEN THEY TURN ON QUICKLY. I MIGHT ALSO DRIVE THE CAR FOR 30-45 MINUTES BEFORE THEY TURN ON, AND WHEN I RESTART THE CAR, IT IS INCONSISTENT ON IF THEY COME BACK ON OR STAY OFF. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING FOR QUITE SOME TIME AND IS NOW HAPPENING MORE ROUTINELY THAN WHEN IT FIRST STARTED.
THE ABS SENSOR LIGHT COMES ON AFTER A MINUTE OF DRIVING. SOMETIMES THE EMERGENCY BRAKE LIGHT WILL COME ON WHEN BRAKING. THIS HAPPEN TO ME AFTER PUTTING IN NEW WHEEL BEARINGS. THEN I PUT IN NEW ABS SENSORS STILL HAVE PROBLEM. ALOT OF OTHER PEOPLE ON THE INTERNET ARE HAVING SAME ISSUE AS ME. THE I PUT IN SPEED CONTROL DEACTIVATION SWITCH. STILL HAVE SAME ISSUE. *TR
2002 FORD WINDSTAR SEL WITH VIN [XXX], I AM THE THIRD OWNER OF THIS VEHICLE. THE ABS AND TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM IS DAMAGED AND HAS A RECURRING WARNING WHEN THE ENGINE IS STARTED WITH THE ABS / BRAKE AND TRACTION CONTROL WARNING LIGHTS ON. THE PERSON I PURCHASED THIS VAN FROM (2ND OWNER) STATED THAT HE HAD ALL THE RECALLS COMPLETED ON THIS VEHICLE HOWEVER HE BELIEVED THAT THE DEFECT IDENTIFIED IN FORD SAFETY RECALL 09S09 FOR THE SPEED CONTROL SYSTEM HAS RESULTED IN DAMAGE TO THE ABS SYSTEM COMPUTER AND/OR ASSOCIATED HARNESS WIRING OR HARNESS CONNECTIONS. HE (2ND OWNER) DID NOT KEEP THE REPAIR ORDERS FOR ANY OF THE RECALL REPAIRS SO I DO NOT HAVE ANY RECORDS TO REVIEW. I BELIEVE THAT THE WIRE HARNESS, RELATED WIRE HARNESS CONNECTORS AND THE ABS SYSTEM COMPUTER ARE DAMAGED RESULTING FROM BRAKE FLUID LEAKING AND/OR CORROSION RELATED TO THE DEFECT FOUND IN FORD SAFETY RECALL 09S09. I BELIEVE THAT THE FORD DEALERSHIP THAT PERFORMED THIS RECALL FAILED TO PROPERLY REPAIR OR IDENTIFY COLLATERAL DAMAGE IN THE WIRE HARNESS AND ABS SYSTEM COMPUTER AS NOTED IN RECALL REPAIR PROCEDURE. THE VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY NOT REPAIRED AND THE ABS SYSTEM IS NOT FUNCTIONING AS DESIGNED (NON-FUNCTIONING), I BELIEVE THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 FORD WINDSTAR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 10 MPH, THE VEHICLE SPUN OUT OF CONTROL ON AN ICY ROAD AND CRASHED INTO A RIVER. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED INJURIES TO THE RIBS AND BRUISES ON ENTIRE BODY THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 110,000.
WHEN BRINGING MY WINDSTAR IN FOR AN ALIGNMENT IT WAS FOUND THAT THE SUBFRAME HAD ROTTED AND CRACKED NEAR THE CONTROL ARM. FORD HAD "COMPLETED" THE NECESSARY REPAIRS TO ADDRESS THIS ISSUE AND HAS STATED THAT THEY ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR THE DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE EVEN THOUGH IT WAS THE ORIGINAL REASON FOR THE RECALL. ACCORDING TO THE INFORMATION FROM THE ORIGINAL RECALL FORD WAS SUPPOSED TO REPLACE THE SUBFRAME HOWEVER SMALL BRACKETS WERE ADDED TO THE VAN INSTEAD. I DO NOT FEEL THAT THE RECALL WAS PROPERLY DONE BY FORD. *TR
JUST NOTICED THAT THE ABS LIGHT WOULD GO ON AND OFF, CHECKED FLUID LEVELS, FINE, AND THEN THE LIGHT STAYS ON ALL THE TIME. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 FORD WINDSTAR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REAR AXLE FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE AXLE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 177,000.
I WAS HAPPY WITH FORD TO THIS DAY. I HAVE A 2002 WINDSTAR THAT HAD ITS RECALL WORK DONE ON THE REAR AXLE 2011. LIKE EVERYONE THAT RESPONDED ABOUT THIS FIX, IT WAS A JUST TO GET YOU THROUGH TILL FORD WAS NOT RESPONSIBLE ANYMORE. I HAPPEN TO TAKE THE VAN INTO FORD FOR A COOLANT FLUSH AND THEY DISCOVERED THE CRACKED AXLE RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE ON THE SLEEVE THEY INSTALLED. THE WHEEL WAS TILTED OUT. THANK GOD IT DID NOT BREAK WHEN THE KIDS, NEW DRIVERS (I THOUGHT FORD PRODUCTS WERE SAFE WITH THEIR RECALLS) MY QUESTION TO ANYONE OUT THEIR CAN WE FILE SUIT AGAINST THIS FORM OF KNOWING NEGLIGENCE.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 FORD WINDSTAR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHO PERFORMED THE RECALL FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 12V195000(SUSPENSION). WITHIN TWO YEARS OR LONGER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. WHILE TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, THE REAR AXLE AND THE REINFORCEMENT BRACKET FAILED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REAR AXLE CRACKED. THE CONTACT HAD TO SLOWLY COAST THE VEHICLE AND PARK IT AT HIS RESIDENCE DUE TO THE COMPONENT FRACTURING. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE REAR AXLE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND THAT THEY WOULD ATTEMPT TO REUSE THE BRACKETS TO SUPPORT THE AXLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE TRAILING ARM NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. I WAS NOT AWARE THAT THERE WERE RECALLS ON THE 2002 FORD WINDSTAR. MY MOM PURCHASED THE VEHICLE 3 YEARS AGO FROM RALPH THAYER DEALERSHIP IN LIVONIA MICHIGAN. THE ABS BRAKE LIGHT HAS BEEN ON AND NOW THE GAUGES ARE JUST FLIPPING. *TR
BRAKE PRESSURE DIFFERENTIAL DEACTIVATION SWITCH (SCDS) SWITCH IS LEAKING BRAKE FLUID. *TR
AFTER DRIVING DOWN A MAJOR HIGHWAY NORTH OF BOSTON, MA (128/95 NORTH) MY WIFE AND I, FIRST HEARD SCRAPING NOISE THAT BECAME LOUDER AND BEGAN SMELL LIKE BURNING RUBBER/BRAKES. THE CAR LURCHED ACROSS THE ROADWAY/HIGHWAY AND WE SWERVED AND ALMOST SIDESWIPED CAR IN THE ADJACENT LANE. WE WERE IN THE PROCESS OF EXITING THE HIGHWAY ON THE OFF RAMP TO MY WORK AT RTE 28 SOUTH STONEHAM/WAKEFIELD. WE WERE ABLE TO PULL OVER, GATHER OUR THOUGHTS AND CONTINUE TO A GULF STATION ON RTE 28 IN STONEHAM, MA. THE GULF STATION MECHANIC/MANAGER SAID HE HAD NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE IT, A REAR AXLE LITERALLY SPLITTING IN HALF. AFTER VIEWING THE REAR BROKEN AXLE AND LOOKING AT THE CONDITION OF THE FRONT RIGHT END AND THE OVERALL CONDITION OF THE SUB FRAME THEY POLITELY AND FORGIVINGLY SAID THEY HAVE RARELY SEEN SUCH A THING (CRACKED/SEPARATED REAR AXLE AND WENT ON TO SAY THEY HAVE ONLY SEEN THIS IN FORD WINDSTARS AND WENT ON TO TALK ABOUT A LOCAL WOMEN WHOSE FORD WINDSTAR LOST CONTROL ON THE HIGHWAY AT 60 MPH WITH HER 3 CHILDREN AND WERE SCARED TO DEATH AND IN CONCLUSION WOULD NOT TOUCH THE VEHICLE AND WARNED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS BEYOND SAFE DRIVING AND REPAIR. THEY WERE SHOCKED THAT ALTHOUGH THERE WAS SOME KIND OF BRACE ON THE AXLE IN TWO PLACES THAT THE AXLE HAD SNAPPED IN TWO AT THE REINFORCEMENT AND SAID EVEN WITHOUT THE REINFORCEMENT ON THE REAR AXLE THEY HAVE NEVER SEEN A REAR AXLE SPLIT IN TWO AND COMPOUNDED WITH THE FACT THAT IT ACTUALLY HAD A REINFORCEMENT BRACKET FAIL. REITERATING AXLES AND SUB FRAMES ARE NOT WEAR AND TEAR PARTS AND IN FACT HAD NEVER SEEN BROKEN REAR AXLES AND SUB FRAMES CRACK AND BREAK AND CORRODED TO THIS EXTENT. THEIR REACTION WAS OF DISTURBING TO SAY THE LEAST. THEY SAID BROKEN AXLES JUST DON,T HAPPEN AND WITH ADDED REINFORCEMENT IT WAS "BEYOND BELIEF" THEY HAD BROKEN IN HALF. *TR

THE CONTACT INDICATED THAT BURNING PLASTIC FUMES EMITTED INTO THE VEHICLE. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT MENTIONED WENT OVER A BUMP AND THE VEHICLE WAS NOT RIDING STEADY. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO PULL THE VEHICLE OVER AND UPON FURTHER INSPECTION, IT WAS NOTICED THAT THE REAR FRAME, REAR AXLE AND THE COIL SPRING FRACTURED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A REPAIR SHOP WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE REAR FRAME, REAR BRAKE DRUMS AND COIL SPRINGS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 81,000.
OUR 2002 FORD WINDSTAR'S AXLE FRACTURED, AS DESCRIBED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 12V193000. THE DEALERSHIP HAD INSTALLED BRACKETS IN 2012, AND RESPOND THAT WE ARE OUTSIDE THE TWELVE MONTH COVERAGE WINDOW ON THIS WORK, AND DECLINE TO DO ANYTHING ELSE FOR US. CAN WE BE SURE OF THE STATE OF THE AXLE ON INSPECTION IN 2012? I THINK THAT SINCE THE AXLE FRACTURED, THEY CANNOT ASSUME THEY HAVE NO LIABILITY, OR THAT THEIR CHOICE TO INSTALL BRACKETS INSTEAD OF REPLACING THE AXLE WAS SUFFICIENT. *TR
ABS LIGHT AND BRAKE LIGHT COMES ON AND STAYS ON FOR DAYS AT A TIME THEN WILL GO OFF AND REMAIN OFF FOR A DAY OR TWO AND THEN COME ON AGAIN. THE PROBLEM IS THAT BOTH LIGHTS (ABS AND BRAKE) COME ON AND THEN WILL STAY ON AND THEN GO OFF FOR VARIOUS PERIODS OF TIME. HAVE HAD ALL OF THE ABS SENSORS CHECKED AND THEY ALL CHECK GOOD. PROBLEM IS ANNOYING AND INTERMITTENT.

I FOUND SEAT LATCHES HAD A RECALL PLUS NEEDING A JUMPER WIRE INSTALLED IN A RECALL SO I MADE APOINTMENT AT SUNLAND FORD IN VICTORVILLE CA 92392 NOT EVEN ONE BLOCK FROM LEAVING THE DEALER ALL DASH LIGHTS CAME ON AND AFTER A FEW MILES AFTER EXITING THE FREEWAY I PULLED OVER AND TURNED OFF THE ENGINE RESTARTED IT THE LIGHTS WENT OUT BUT AFTER A FEW MILES ABS AND TRAC LIGHT WENT BACK ON AND STAYED ON NOW I NOTICED MY DOOR LIGHTS DONT WORK KNOW WHAT COULD THEY HAVE DONE ?? [IT'S NOT A BLOWN FUSE I CHECKED] I CALLED THEM THE NEKT MORNING AND THEY TOLD ME TO PAY THEM $105.00 AND THEY WILL CHECK IT AND TELL ME HOW MUCH TO FIX IT SEEMS STRANGE IT WAS NOT DOING THIS BEFORE I TOOK IT TO THEM IS IT REVENGE FOR DOING THE RECALL??? *TR
WHILE DRIVING MY VAN I HEARD A VERY LOUD NOISE AND MY DRIVER'S SIDE TIRE IMMEDIATELY WENT FLAT. I WAS ABLE TO PULL THE VEHICLE SAFELY TO A STOP ALONG THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I CALLED A TOW TRUCK AND HAD MY VEHICLE LOOKED AT BY THE MECHANIC WHO INFORMED ME THAT A COIL SPRING AROUND MY STRUT BROKE WHICH CAUSED MY TIRE TO BE SLICED OPEN FROM THE INSIDE OF THE TIRE. I WAS VERY LUCKY I WAS NOT GOING ANY FASTER WHEN THE SPRING BROKE AND SLICED MY TIRE OPEN. I REVIEWED ISSUES ONLINE THAT OTHER PEOPLE WERE HAVING RELATING TO MY ISSUE REGARDING THE MAKE AND MODEL OF MY VEHICLE. APPARENTLY FORD HAD A RECALL ON THE WINDSTAR COIL SPRINGS FROM A DIFFERENT YEAR OF THE FORD WINDSTAR VANS DUE TO THE VERY SAME PROBLEM WITH THE COIL SPRINGS BREAKING AND CAUSING THE TIRE TO BE PUNCTURED OR SLICED OPEN FROM THE INSIDE. I AM ALSO VERY CONCERNED AFTER READING THAT THE PART HAD TO FAIL BEFORE IT WOULD BE ADDRESSED. IT SEEMS THAT IF THERE IS A SAFETY RECALL IT SHOULD BE COMPLETED BEFORE A FAILURE OCCURS AND NOT AFTER. THIS COULD HAVE CAUSED A VERY SERIOUS ACCIDENT HAD I BEEN ON AN INTERSTATE OR EVEN IF I WERE GOING 55 MILES PER HOUR ON THE HIGHWAY. I DID CONTACT FORD MOTOR COMPANY REGARDING THIS ISSUE AND WAS TOLD THAT FORD WOULD NOT ASSIST WITH THE REPAIRS BECAUSE MY VEHICLE WAS NOT RECALLED FOR THIS ISSUE. I OWN TWO FORD VEHICLES AND I COULD NOT BELIEVE THAT MY ISSUE WAS NOT OF A CONCERN TO FORD. I PROBABLY WILL NOT BUY ANOTHER FORD BECAUSE OF THIS. MY FAMILY'S SAFETY HAS TO COME FIRST AND I AM NOT CONVINCED WE WILL BE SAFE IF THE COMPANY WON'T ADDRESS THESE TYPES OF SAFETY ISSUES. *TR

WIFE WAS GOING TO WORK AND BRAKES JUST WENT OUT. THE ABS AND BRAKE LIGHT STAYS ON AND HAS BEEN ON AFTER PURCHASING THE VEHICLE. I AM GOING TO LOOK OVER VEHICLE AGAIN.
WE WERE DRIVING AROUND TOWN AND WE HEARD A CLUNKING SOUND IN THE BACK OF THE VAN. WE TOOK THE VAN INTO THE SHOP WHERE THEY DISCOVERED A CRACK IN THE REAR AXLE. LUCKILY THIS DID NOT HAPPEN THE WEEK BEFORE, AS WE WERE DRIVING MANY HIGHWAY MILES OR IT COULD HAVE BEEN WORSE. THIS WAS A RECALLED PART AND IT WAS TAKEN IN AT THE TIME OF THE RECALL. TWO DIFFERENT MECHANICS IN TOWN ASSURED US THAT IT WAS NOT OUR FAULT BUT THAT IT WAS A FAULTY PART. WE TAKE GOOD CARE OF OUR CARS. WE CALLED FORD DIRECTLY THINKING THAT THEY WOULD HONOR THEIR VEHICLE AND FIX A PART THEY KNEW WOULD BREAK DOWN. THEY GAVE US THE RUN AROUND AND THEN NEVER RETURNED OUR PHONE CALLS. THIS VAN WOULD HAD MANY GOOD YEARS LEFT IN IT, NOW IT CAN NOT BE DRIVEN! *TR

NOW I FOUND OUT THERE IS A CONNECTION BETWEEN BOTH THE SWITCH AND THE ABS BAD MODULE. FORD DOES NOT HAVE A RECALL ON THE ABS SYSTEM, BUT THEY DO ON THE ABOVE SWITCH. VERY POSSIBLY THE HIGH COST OF THE MODULE HAS KEPT THEM FROM HAVING A RECALL!!! I HAVE READ COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE SAME PROBLEM FROM ANOTHER FORD VAN OWNER. I WAS DRIVING THE VAN THIS AFTERNOON ON A PUBLIC ROAD WHEN FOR NO APPARENT REASON THE VAN STARTED SMOKING FROM UNDER THE ENGINE. I PULLED INTO A AUTOMOTIVE GARAGE AND GOT OUT OF THE VAN AND IT WAS STILL SMOKING BADLY. I INDIVIDUAL WHO ACTUALLY WORKED AT THE GARAGE WAS ON HIS WAY HOME FROM A RESTAURANT AND PULLED INTO THE PARKING AREA. HE HAD ME GO INTO THE VEHICLE TO PULL THE LATCH TO THE HOOD AND WHEN HE OPENED THE HOOD THE ENGINE AND OTHER PARTS WERE ENGULFED WITH FLAMES. THEY SPREAD INTO THE INSIDE OF THE VAN AND DESTROYED THE DASH BOARD, WINDSHIELD AND OTHER AREA. THE ROOF ON THE INSIDE WAS MELTING. THEY WERE ABLE TO PUT OUT THE FIRE BUT THE VAN IS DESTROYED. I PURCHASED THE 2002 WINDSTAR VAN ON 7/15/14 WITH 155,400 MILES. SHORTLY AFTER THAT THE ABS LIGHT AND THE BRAKE LIGHT CAME ON. I COULD NOT FIND ANY PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKES NOR WITH BRAKING. MY ABS AND BRAKES LIGHTS HAVE BEEN COMING ON AT DIFFERENT TIMES FOR MY 2002 FORD WINDSTAR FOR A LONG WHILE, AND STAY ON NOW THAT IT IS SUMMER. I MADE A LEFT TURN AT ABOUT 5 MPH WITH THE TWO LIGHTS ON AND WHEN I APPLIED THE BRAKES AT THE COMPLETION OF THE TURN TO STOP AT A RED LIGHT THE BRAKES SEIZED AND THE CAR CONTINUED MOVING SLOWLY INTO ON COMING TRAFFIC WHILE MAKING A METAL GRINDING NOISE. I WAS ABLE TO QUICKLY PUT THE CAR IN PARK TO STOP IT RIGHT UNDER THE LIGHT. I THEN TURNED THE CAR OFF AND BACK ON AND THE LIGHTS WENT OFF AND THE BRAKES WORKED NORMALLY AGAIN. A FEW BLOCKS LATER THE ABS AND BRAKE LIGHTS CAME BACK ON BUT THE BRAKES DIDN'T SEIZE THIS TIME. THIS ISSUE IS DANGEROUS AND I HAD BOTH MY WIFE AND CHILDREN IN THE VEHICLE WITH ME. I HEARD A LOUD POPPING NOISE COMING FROM THE BACK OF MY VAN. TOOK IT TO THE REPAIR SHOP AND LEARNED THE REAR AXLE HAD A LARGE CRACK AND WAS ALMOST BROKEN IN HALF. FORD HAS A RECALL IN EFFECT FOR 2002 FORD WINDSTAR'S FOR AXLES THAT ARE CRACKING/BREAKING (NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 12V195000); HOWEVER, FORD IS SAYING THAT MY VIN NUMBER IS NOT A PART OF THEIR RECALL EVEN THOUGH I HAVE A 2002 FORD WINDSTAR. I HAD THE REAR AXLE WELDED TO REPAIR THE CRACK. THIS WAS ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE AXLE. I STARTED HEARING POPPING SOUNDS AGAIN, RETURNED TO THE REPAIR SHOP ONLY TO LEARN THE AXLE IS NOW BROKEN ON THE DRIVER SIDE OF THE AXLE.
