THE ABS AND BRAKE LIGHTS KEEP COMING ON EVEN THOUGH THERE ARE NEW BRAKES ON THE VEHICLE. *TR
I HAVE A 2003 WINDSTAR AND THE BRAKE PRESSURE DIFFERENTIAL DEACTIVATION SWITCH (2B264) LOCATED UNDER THE MASTER CYLINDER (BEHIND THE AIR FILTER) STARTED LEAKING AND STARTED SMOKING WHEN IT SHORTED THE CONTACTS. I WAS ABLE TO TURN THE ENGINE OFF AND DISCONNECT THE SWITCH BEFORE A MAJOR FIRE OCCURRED. *TR
I HAVE A 2003 FORD WINDSTAR AND HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE ABS AND THE BRAKE LIGHT COMING ON INTERMITTENTLY SOON AFTER BUYING MY VAN NEW. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND IT WOULD GO OUT FOR A FEW MONTHS AT A TIME, BUT I AM A WOMEN AND KNOW NOTHING ABOUT CARS AND TRUSTED THEM. OVER THE YEARS I DID MY PART AND HAD PADS, SHOES ECT. REPLACED AND NO ONE COULD EVER SEE ANY PROBLEM WITH MY BRAKES, I TOSSED IT UP TO A "COMPUTER ERROR" UNTIL NOW. BOTH ABS AND BRAKE LIGHT STAY ON ALL THE TIME, THEY SQUEAK, AND SOMETIMES FEEL FUNNY WHEN I AM TRYING TO STOP MY VAN, SO I TOOK IT TO A GARAGE. THE GARAGE PUT IT ON THE MACHINE TO PRINT OUT PROBLEM CODES AND IT GAVE 10 PROBLEM CODES HAVING TO DO WITH THE BRAKES. THE MAN AT THE GARAGE WAS ACTING FUNNY (MAYBE HE KNEW ABOUT THE FIRE ISSUE) AND TOLD ME I HAD TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP. IT SOUNDED SUSPICIOUS,SO I CHECKED FOR RECALLS. I HAVE HAD NO FIRES AS OF YET. I DON'T WANT TO WAIT UNTIL I DO HAVE ONE, AND FRANKLY CAN AFFORD TO SINK THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS INTO A CAR, WHEN FORD MADE FAULTY EQUIPMENT IN THE FIRST PLACE. *TR
03 FORD WINDSTAR- THE YELLOW ABS LIGHT AND RED BRAKE LIGHT APPEAR WHILE DRIVING. IT SEEMS TO HAPPEN AT RANDOM. IN RESEARCHING THE ISSUE ONLINE IT APPEARS MANY OTHER WINDSTAR OWNERS HAVE HAD THIS SAME ISSUE. I HAVE NOT DONE ANYTHING TO CORRECT THE ISSUE AS OF YET. *TR
BAD ABS MODULE IS A PROBLEM THAT VERY MANY WINDSTAR OWNERS HAVE. SO YOU THINK YOU HAVE ABS AND YOU DO NOT ALSO ALOT OF WINDSTARS HAVE BURNED. THIS IS A DANGER TO OWNERS. *TR
THE BRAKE PRESSURE DIFFERENTIAL DEACTIVATION SWITCH LEAKS. THIS CAUSES BRAKE FLUID TO WICK DOWN TWO WIRES TO THE ABS BRAKE MODULE. THE BRAKE AND ABS LIGHTS COME ON. THE FAILURE OCCURS ON EVERY DAY DRIVING, ESPECIALLY WARMER DAYS. *TR
2003 FORD WINDSTAR. ABS AND BRAKE WARNING LIGHT COME ON INTERMITTENTLY. SEAMS TO BE MOSTLY WHEN WET ROADS, BUT HAS OCCURRED ON DRY DAYS ALSO. TOOK TO LOCAL FORD DEALER AND WAS TOLD ABS MODULE HAD A LOT OF ERROR CODES AND THE WIRING CONNECTION LOOKED DAMP. MECHANIC PUT DIELECTRIC GREASE ON THE CONNECTION, BUT I RECEIVED NO INFO ON THE ERROR CODES. *TR
I HAVE A 2003 FORD WINDSTAR WITH 94,000 ON IT. BOUGHT IT SECOND OWNER WITH 18,000 MILES ONLY ON IT AND A 75,000 MILE WARRANTY. MY ENTIRE FRAME IS RUSTING FROM THE DOOR PANELS TO THE UNDER FRAME, SUPPORTS. HECK I HAVE A HOLE THAT DEVELOPED THE SIZE OF MY FIST IN THE SIDE FRAME NEAR THE PASSENGER SLIDING DOOR IN THE REAR. MY HITCH WONT EVEN HOLD CAUSE THE METAL JUST BENDS INWARDS. THERE ARE CARS ON THE ROAD WITH 150,000 THAT DO NOT HAVE THE RUST MY CAR DOES. WHY DO I HAVE TO PAY FOR THE CHEAP METAL THEY USED DURING THIS PROCESS. NOW I HAVE TO BUY A NEW CAR THAT I CANNOT AFFORD AT THIS TIME. I WAS HOPING TO KEEP MY CAR FOR AT LEAST A COUPLE MORE YEARS BUT NOW I CANNOT, ITS DANGEROUS. THEY EVEN TOLD ME MY REAR AXLE IS BENDING. I WILL CONTINUE TO DRIVE MY CAR CAUSE I CANNOT AFFORD ANOTHER AND IF I DIE SO BE IT I GUESS CAUSE I GUESS ITS ALL ABOUT BUSINESS AS USUAL. MY SISTER ALSO HAS A WINDSTAR THAT COLLAPSED THIS WEEKEND UPON MAKING A TURN THANKFULLY AT 25 MILE PER HOUR. I DRIVE 70 AT TIMES WHERE PERMISSIBLE. WE OWNED A 2003 FORD WINDSTAR, WHICH WE HAD NOT HAD ANY INCIDENTS PRIOR BESIDES INTERIOR LIGHTS FLICKERING. WE WERE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE AT APPROXIMATELY 65MPH WHEN I SUDDENLY SAW A VERY DENSE LIGHT GRAY SMOKE IN THE DRIVER'S SIDE MIRROR. WE PULLED OVER IMMEDIATELY. I TOLD EVERYONE TO EXIT THE VEHICLE UPON SEEING FLAMES UNDER THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF THE DRIVERS FRONT TIRE, UNDER THE ENGINE. WE NEVER LOST POWER WHILE DRIVING AND THE ENGINE SHOWED NO SIGNS OF FAILURE. EVERYONE EXITED THE VEHICLE WITHOUT INJURY BUT UNFORTUNATELY THE FIRE WAS RAMPANT AND CONSUMED THE VEHICLE PRIOR TO EMERGENCY OFFICIALS ARRIVING. THERE WERE MULTIPLE EXPLOSIONS FROM THE VEHICLE DURING THE FIRE. PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS, AS I NOW KNOW FROM LOOKING INTO IT FURTHER THAT THERE SEEMS TO BE A TREND OF ENGINE COMPARTMENT FIRES IN THIS MODEL. WE ALSO WERE NOT INFORMED OF THE RECALL FOR THE CRUISE CONTROL/BRAKE WIRING ISSUE. THE INSURANCE COMPANY CONSIDERED IT A TOTAL LOSS SO NOTHING COULD BE DONE DUE TO THE ISSUE. *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS 2003 FORD WINDSTAR. THE CONTACT RECEIVED RECALL NOTICE 09V399000, VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS BEING REPAIRED THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE SCDS LEAKED ONTO THE ABS SYSTEM. THE DEALER WILL NOT ASSUME RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE ABS REPAIR COST. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 81,000.

MY 2003 FORD WINDSTAR CONTINUES TO SMOKE AND THE ABS AND BRAKE LIGHTS KEEP COMING ON. IT ALSO HAS ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS BECAUSE THE INTERIOR LIGHTS CONTINUE ON FLASHING AND THE DOOR LOCKS SOMETIMES DO NOT WORK PROPERLY. THE PROBLEM SEEMS TO BE A WIDELY EXPERIENCED ISSUE BECAUSE I HAVE FOUND NUMEROUS WEBSITES DESCRIBING THESE ISSUES. *TR
ABS AND RED INTERNAL BRAKE LIGHT INTERMITTENTLY LIGHT UP DUE TO FAULTY SWITCH. THERE IS AN UNRELATED RECALL ISSUED FOR 1998-2003 WINDSTARS BUT IT DOES NOT COVER THIS PARTICULAR PROBLEM. SINCE THE RECALLS WAS ISSUED HAVE SEEN THAT THIS PROBLEM IS RAMPANT AMONG WINDSTAR OWNERS. THIS CAUSES A SAFETY ISSUE AS WE ARE TOLD IT IS JUST A SWITCH AND NOT TO WORRY BUT THEN IF THERE IS A PROBLEM WE ARE UNAWARE. *TR

2009 FORD WINDSTAR. PURCHASED VAN 2 YEARS AGO AND IT HAS BEEN DIFFICULT! AUTOMATIC DOORS POP OPEN LOUDLY OR NOT AT ALL. HAD THAT FIXED. REAR WINDOW OCCASIONALLY WORK! INTERIOR LIGHTS FLICKER OR STAY ON AT DIFFERENT TIMES! REAR SENSOR SIGNAL DOES NOT WORK. *TR

MY ABS AND BRAKE LIGHT GO ON AT VARIOUS TIMES, BUT IS MORE AND MORE FREQUENT. ONE PLACE, MUNRO MUFFLER AND BRAKE SAID BRAKES ARE FINE. H & L DEALERSHIP SAID I NEED 2 THINGS REPLACED THAT WILL COST ME A MINIMUM OF $1250.00 OF WHICH I DO NOT HAVE.( I JUST RETURNED TO A JOB AFTER BEING OUT OF A JOB FOR ALMOST A YEAR. JUST CATCHING UP AND NOW THIS.) I MAY LOOSE MY VAN BECAUSE I CANNOT AFFORD REPAIRS ON A PROBLEM I AM SEEING AS A CONTINUED PROBLEM IN A FORD WINDSTAR 2003 VAN. I NEED IMMEDIATE HELP. STARTING THIS YEAR (2012), YOU CAN NOT GET AN INSPECTION STICKER IN NEW HAMPSHIRE IF THE ABS LIGHT IS ON. APPROXIMATELY 3 YEARS AGO THE BRAKE AND ABS LIGHT WOULD PERIODICALLY LIGHT UP ON THE DASHBOARD. SHORTLY AFTER THE LIGHTS APPEARED, THE BRAKES WOULD MAKE A HORRIBLE SQUEALING AND GRINDING NOISE. I TOOK IT INTO THE MECHANIC AND HE SAID THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE BRAKES. ABOUT 6 MONTHS LATER, THE BRAKE AND ABS LIGHT WAS PERMANENTLY ON. IN LATE MARCH OF 2012 I BROUGHT THE VAN IN FOR NEW FRONT BRAKES BUT HE WAS UNABLE TO SHUT OFF THE BRAKE AND ABS LIGHTS. AFTER THE BRAKES WERE INSTALLED THE SQUEALING AND GRINDING NOISE BECAME PERMANENT. WHEN I TOOK IT BACK TO THE MECHANIC HE SAID THE BRAKES WERE FINE. SO I TOOK IT TO ANOTHER MECHANIC IN JUNE OF 2012 AND HE REPLACED THE REAR BRAKES ALONG WITH REAR DRUMS, OSCILLATORS, WHEEL CYLINDER AND BRAKE FLUID. THIS MECHANIC WAS ABLE TO SHUT OFF THE BRAKE AND ABS LIGHT, (HE SAID THE CODE WAS C1185-ABS) WHICH WAS A GOOD THING BECAUSE HE SAID NH NOW REQUIRED THE ABS BRAKES TO BE WORKING IN ORDER TO RECEIVE AN INSPECTION STICKER. HOWEVER IT ONLY LASTED ABOUT 2 DAYS AND THE LIGHTS CAME BACK ON ALONG WITH THE SQUEALING AND GRINDING NOISES. IN JULY OF 2012 I TOOK THE VAN BACK TO THE MECHANIC THAT DID THE REAR BRAKES TO GET MY NEW HAMPSHIRE INSPECTION STICKER. HE LOOKED AT THE BRAKES AGAIN BUT COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH THEM. HE CONNECTED IT TO THE COMPUTER AND IT CAME UP WITH THE SAME CODE (C1185-ABS) BUT HE WAS UNABLE TO CLEAR IT. THEREFORE, LEGALLY I WAS NOT ABLE TO GET MY NH STATE INSPECTION STICKER. HE DID RECOMMEND A NEW ABS PUMP BUT I HAVE NOT DONE THAT YET. *TR
THE ABS WARNING LIGHT, TRAC OFF WARNING LIGHT, BRAKE WARNING LIGHT ALL COME ON INTERMITTENTLY AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. THIS HAS HAPPENED DAILY SINCE FIRST NOTICING IT 3 OR 4 YEARS AGO. REPORTED TO DEALER AND DEALER DIAGNOSED AS FAULT ABS ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULE WITH INTERNAL FAULT. SERVICE TECHNICIAN DIDN'T THINK THIS WAS A SAFETY ISSUE UNLESS OPERATING IN SLIPPERY ROAD CONDITIONS. RESEARCHING THE ISSUE ON LINE REVEALED VOLUMES OF OTHERS WHO REPORT SIMILAR PROBLEMS. THIS IS A $2000-$2500 REPAIR. IT APPEARS FORD IS AWARE OF THE DEFECT AND HAS BEEN FOR SOME TIME AND IS MAKING MONEY OFF THIS REPAIR INSTEAD OF JUST RECALLING THE VEHICLE TO FIX THE REPAIR. IF THE ABS GOES OUT IN SLIPPERY ROAD CONDITIONS I THINK THE SAFETY RISKS ARE SIGNIFICANT THAT FORD SHOULD BEAR THE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE COSTS INCURRED FOR THIS REPAIR. *TR
MY WIFE WAS DRIVING IN A PARKING LOT WITH THE KIDS AND THE FRONT RIGHT STRUT SPRING ON OUR 2003 WINDSTAR CRACKED IN TWO. IT BROKE THE STABILIZER END LINK AND THE STRUT BEARING PLATE. THE BROKEN SPRING RUBBED THE TIRE, BUT DIDN'T PUNCTURE IT. THE RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM DOESN'T APPLY TO THIS MODEL YEAR AND IT STATES THE CAUSE IS CORROSION. I AM A LICENSED AUTOBODY TECHNICIAN AND UPON REMOVAL OF THE WHEEL AND INSPECTION OF THE SPRING I WOULD SAY THE ALLOY USED IN THE SPRING IS TOO BRITTLE BECAUSE IT SHEARED CLEAN AT AN ANGLE. THERE ISN'T ANY SIGNS OF CORROSION ON THE SPRING BECAUSE IT IS COATED. WE LIVE IN SOUTHERN ONTARIO, CANADA WHERE WE SEE A LOT OF SALT IN WINTER AND I'VE WORKED ON A LOT OF RUSTY CARS AND I WOULD SAY THIS DEFINITELY NOT CLIMATE RELATED, BUT RATHER A MANUFACTURING DEFECT THAT IF IT OCCURRED AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS COULD LEAD TO LOSS OF LIFE. IT WILL COST ME APPROXIMATELY $300-350 TO FIX THIS MYSELF BECAUSE YOU HAVE TO REPLACE THE SPRINGS IN PAIRS. *TR
ABS AND BRAKE LIGHT SUDDENLY COME ON FOR NO APPARENT REASON. HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT THE ABS WILL NOT OPERATE PROPERLY WHEN THOSE LIGHTS COME ON. *TR
DURING WARM WEATHER, THE AMBER ABS INDICATOR AND THE RED BRAKE LIGHT ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL ARE ILLUMINATED INTERMITTENTLY. WHEN THESE LIGHTS ARE DISPLAYED, THEY REMAIN ON UNTIL THE ENGINE IS TURNED OFF. WHEN RESTARTED, THE ABS AND BRAKE LIGHTS DO NOT DISPLAY IMMEDIATELY. THEY TYPICALLY RETURN WITHIN 15 MINUTES OF DRIVING TIME IN WARM/HOT WEATHER. SELDOM DOES THIS OCCUR DURING COLD WEATHER. NO REPAIRS HAVE BEEN MADE TO THE BRAKING SYSTEM OTHER THAN ROUTINE BRAKE PAD/ROTOR SERVICE. THE BRAKES APPEAR TO FUNCTION NORMALLY DURING THE TIMES WHEN THE ABS AND BRAKE LIGHTS ARE ILLUMINATED, ALTHOUGH WE'VE NEVER NEEDED TO "PANIC BRAKE" DURING THESE TIMES SO WE CANNOT ATTEST TO THE FUNCTIONALITY OF THE ABS SYSTEM'S FUNCTIONALITY. *TR
ABS AND BRAKE LIGHT COME ON DASH BECAUSE MY SON-IN-LAW SAID THERE IS BRAKE FLUID LEAK TOWARD THE BACK RIGHT SIDE OF THE ENGINE. WHEN IT IS HOT WEATHER OR THE ENGINE GETS HOT THE ABS LIGHT COMES ON. THIS HAS BEEN A PROBLEM BEFORE. IT HAS HAPPENED TWO TIMES SINCE I BOUGHT THE VAN. MY DEALER CLOSED FOR BUSINESS AND I NEED TO GET THIS FIXED. *TR

PARKING BRAKE LIGHT AND ABS LIGHT COME ON AFTER DRIVING A SHORT DISTANCE. I'VE FOUND THIS TO BE HIGHLY FREQUENT PROBLEM ON 2001-2003 FORD WINDSTARS. ALSO READ THAT THIS COULD CAUSE FIRES AND EVEN DEATH. WE ALSO HAVE INTERNAL LIGHTS THAT FLASH ON AND OFF WHILE DRIVING. THIS IS DANGEROUS AT NIGHT AS IT COULD STARTLE THE DRIVER. I'VE READ THIS IS ALSO A COMMON PROBLEM. PLEASE! GET THE FORD MOTOR COMPANY TO RECALL THESE VEHICLES AND CORRECT THIS PROBLEM. A HUGE PERCENTAGE OF THE THESE VEHICLES HAVE THE PROBLEM. *TR

DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND ALL INTERIOR LIGHTS GO ON AND STAY ON OR THE LIGHTS START FLASHING AND FLICKERING. YESTERDAY THE ANTI LOCK BRAKE LIGHTS HAVE GONE ON AGAIN. RECENTLY THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING SEVERAL TIMES A WEEK. THIS MORNING WE WERE AT A STOP SIGN WAITING TO PULL OUT ONTO A MAJOR HIGHWAY AND THE CAR WOULD NOT MOVE. MY HUSBAND STEPPED ON THE GAS. THE ENGINE ROARED BUT THE CAR WOULD NOT MOVE FORWARD NOR WOULD IT MOVE BACKWARD WHEN PUT INTO REVERSE. WE HAVE HAD THIS VAN AT THE GARAGE NUMEROUS TIMES FOR THESE REPAIRS. I HAVE A 2003 FORD WINDSTAR SEL THAT HAS 86,700 MILES ON IT AND FOR THE LAST 18 MONTHS THE ABS AND BRAKE WARNING LIGHTS COME ON AT THE SAME TIME AFTER DRIVING ABOUT A MILE. MECHANIC CHECKED AND IT IS THE ABS UNIT ALARM C1185. ALSO MY SPEEDOMETER SOMETIMES DOES NOT READ CORRECT SPEED. HAD RECALL 09S09 COMPLETED AND SPEEDOMETER HAS BEEN O.K. I OWN A 2003 FORD WINDSTAR. APPROXIMATELY TWO MONTHS AGO THE ABS AND BRAKE LIGHTS CAME ON WHILE I WAS DRIVING. WHEN I RESTARTED THE ENGINE THE LIGHTS TURNED OFF; BUT WHILE DRIVING THEY CAME BACK ON AGAIN. THIS NOW HAPPENS ALMOST EVERY TIME I DRIVE THE VEHICLE. WHEN MY MECHANIC EXAMINED IT HE SAID THAT THE MODULE WAS SHOT. WHILE I WAS DECIDING THE BEST WAY TO HANDLE THE NECESSARY REPAIR I DECIDED TO RESEARCH THE PROBLEM. MY RESEARCH SHOWS THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON AND DANGEROUS ISSUE WITH WINDSTARS. I HESITATE TO REPLACE THE PART ONLY TO HAVE THE SAME ISSUE IN THE NEAR FUTURE. *TR
