THE ABS LIGHT KEEPS COMING ON IN MY FORD VAN AND THE BRAKES GET HARD TO PUSH. IT SEEMS TO HAPPEN MORE OFTEN WHEN THE VAN WARMS UP OR THE WHETHER GETS WARM. FORD DOES NOT RECOGNIZE A PROBLEM AND WILL NOT FIX IT. *TR
THE ABS / BRAKE LIGHT ILLUMINATE INTERMITTANTLY, BRAKES TURN ON SQUEEL WITHOUT WARNING.*TR
MY 2003 FORD WINDSTAR IS EXHIBITING IDENTICAL PROBLEMS AS NUMEROUS OTHER 2003 WINDSTAR VEHICLES. THEY INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING: 1) ABS BRAKE SYSTEM - BRAKE MODULE MELTS AND FAILS DUE TO EXCESSIVE HEAT. 2) ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS - INTERIOR LIGHTS INTERMITTENTLY REMAIN ON WHEN VEHICLE IS TURNED OFF AND DOORS CLOSED. 3) EMERGENCY BRAKE LIGHT - REMAINS ON WHEN VEHICLE IS IN OPERATION. 4 BURNING SMELL - OCCASIONAL ELECTRICAL BURNING SMELL WHEN VEHICLE IS IN USE. LOCAL DEALER - SHEEHY FORD OF GAITHERSBURG, MD - IS INDICATING THE ABS MODULE HAS 'BURNED OUT' (ABS ECM WIRING CONNECTOR), ALTHOUGH ADMITTEDLY, ARE SURPRISED WITH SO FEW MILES ON THE VEHICLE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 FORD WINDSTAR. THE ABS LIGHT REMAINS ILLUMINATED, FOLLOWED BY THE BRAKE LIGHT. THERE IS ALSO FLUID LEAKING AND MELTED WIRES UNDER THE HOOD. THE CONTACT HAS NOT TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 135,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 132,000.
I DRIVE A 2003 WINDSTAR, AND THE BRAKE LIGHTS WILL NOT GO OFF EVEN AFTER HAVING THE BRAKES REPLACED. IN SEARCHING FOR ANSWERS I CAME ACROSS A RECALL FOR 1999-2003 MODELS, HOWEVER, MY VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. THIS UPSET ME BECAUSE MY CAR WAS EXPERIENCING THE EXACT PROBLEM. I CALLED 2 FORD DEALERS FOR ASSISTANCE, ONE GAVE ME THE NUMBER TO THE CUSTOMER CARE LINE. THEY DID NOT CARE TOO MUCH, BECAUSE THEY WERE UNWILLING TO ADD MY CAR ON THE LIST TO RECEIVE REPAIRS. I THINK IT IS MORE THAN COINCIDENCE THAT THE RECALL AND MY PROBLEM ARE EXACTLY THE SAME AND NO ONE WILL FIX IT. PLEASE HELP BEFORE WE WIND UP WITH INJURY OR WORSE!!! *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 FORD WINDSTAR. HE STATED THAT DURING THE MONTHS OF SUMMER, THE ABS AND SERVICE BREAKS WARNING LIGHT CONSISTENTLY ILLUMINATES ON THE INSTRUMENT CONTROL PANEL. FAILURE OF THE BREAK SYSTEM CAN LEAD TO INCREASED STOPPING DISTANCES, WHICH INCREASES THE RISK FOR VEHICLE CRASH. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, AND A TECHNICIAN DEACTIVATED THE ABS SWITCH NUMBERS 15 AND 10. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 38,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. BL

ABS AND BRAKE LIGHT ARE COMING ON IN MY 2003 FORD WINDSTAR VAN. WHEN YOU SHUT CAR OFF THE LIGHT WILL GO OUT AND AFTER DRIVING FOR A WHILE THEY COME BACK ON (EVEN WHILE HAVE CRUISE CONTROL ON)AND STAY ON TILL CAR IS SHUT OFF AGAIN. *TR
I NOTICED THE BRAKE LIGHTS ON MY DASHBOARD COMING ON AND DISAPPEARING INTERMITTENTLY. I HAD NO IDEA THAT MY ANTI LOCK BRAKING SYSTEM IS SPORADICALLY WORKING LIKE SO MANY THOUSANDS OF OTHER WINDSTAR OWNERS. I HAVE THREE SMALL CHILDREN THAT I TRANSPORT ON THE HIGHWAY TO AND FROM SCHOOL AND I HATE TO THINK OF AN ACCIDENT THAT COULD BE MADE WORSE BY THIS SITUATION. DON'T WAIT UNTIL A CHILD OR ANY OTHER PERSON LOSES THEIR LIFE OVER THIS SITUATION. PLEASE RECALL THIS MODULE AS WAS DONE ON THE FORD ESCAPE SO THAT LIVES DON'T HAVE TO BE LOST. THIS SEEMS LIKE A SEVERE SAFETY ISSUE. MY BRAKES SQUEAL CONSTANTLY IN HOT WEATHER AND I FEAR OF A FIRE BREAKING OUT WHILE MY DOG AND THREE SMALL CHILDREN ARE IN THE CAR. ABS AND BRAKE LIGHT STARTED TO GO ON IN THE LAST WEEK. ALSO ODOMETER GOES FLAT BRAKES SQUEAL EVERY OTHER TIME I USE CAR. OWNED 5 YEARS NEW 16,000 +MILES ON CAR SINGLE AND ONLY OWNER. MY COMPLAINT IS FOR A POTENTIAL PROBLEM. I HAVE A 2003 FORD WINDSTAR THAT HAS A WATER LEAK IN THE ROOF BODY SEAMS. I TOOK IT TO A DEALER ON 5/19 WHO HAD A SPECIALIST COME IN TO LOOK AT IT. THEY SAID THEY COULDN'T DO IT AND SUGGESTED TAKING IT TO A BODY SHOP. I DON'T THINK BODY SEAMS LEAKING IS NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR AND I'M AFRAID THAT IF I'M IN AN ACCIDENT, THERE COULD BE DEADLY CONSEQUENCES DUE TO THE STRUCTURAL DEFECT. FORD IS NOT BEING HELPFUL AT ALL. I'M A SINGLE MOM WITH NO MONEY, BUT I GUESS I HAVE TO TAKE IT TO ANOTHER DEALER THAT HAS A BODY SHOP AND HAVE THEM TEAR IT UP. HELP. THE CAR HAS NEVER BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT AND I BOUGHT IT NEW. IT TOOK A WHILE FOR ME TO FIGURE IT OUT BECAUSE THE WATER THAT COMES IN GOES RIGHT INTO THE HATCHBACK/TRUNK CARPET. THE ABS BRAKE LIGHT COMES ON WITH A WARNING TO CHECK THE SYSTEM. WHEN CHECKED, NOTHING PHYSICAL CAN BE FOUND WRONG WITH THE BRAKES. WHEN THE VEHECLE IS RESTARTED THE LIGHT IS OUT. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 FORD WINDSTAR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE SLIDING DOOR WOULD NOT FUNCTION WITH THE POWER BUTTON. THE DOOR WOULD HAVE TO BE OPENED MANUALLY FROM THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT. THE DEALER STATED THAT THERE WAS A SERVICE BULLETIN FOR THE FAILURE, BUT THERE WAS NO RECALL. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT A TSB KIT WAS NEEDED. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT NOTHING COULD BE DONE AND REFERRED HER TO NHTSA. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 77,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 76,000. UPDATED 07/15/08 *BF UPDATED
THE ABS AND BRAKE WARNING LAMPS ARE INTERMITTENTLY COMING ON. I HAD THE SYSTEM CHECKED BY TWO DIFFERENT CERTIFIED AUTO REPAIR SHOPS AND BOTH RESPONDED THAT THERE WERE SEVERAL CODES CREATING THE PROBLEM. THEY ALSO MENTIONED THE ONLY SOLUTION IS TO REPLACE THE ABS CONTROL MODULE. AFTER DOING RESEARCH ON MY OWN, I CONCLUDED THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE MAJORITY OF 2003 FORD WINDSTAR OWNERS. I BELIEVE THE ABS MODULES ARE NOT MANUFACTURE CORRECTLY CREATING THIS PROBLEM. I ALSO BELIEVE THIS IS SOMETHING THAT FORD NEEDS TO ADDRESS ON THE 2003 WINDSTAR. *TR
BRAKE, ABS, AND OTHER LIGHTS COME ON, DRIVE DISENGAGES, VAN WILL ONLY RUN IN 2ND OR LOW GEAR UNTIL YOU TURN IT OFF THEN ON AGAIN. VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION AS THE VAN LOSES POWER AND DECELERATES. FUSE #1 SPARKS WHEN PUTTING IN A FUSE. BLOWS THE FUSE IMMEDIATELY. INTERIOR LIGHT THEN WILL NOT WORK. VAN IS CURRENTLY BEING LOOKED AT BY PHIL LONG FORD. *TR
ABS AND BRAKE LIGHTS COME ON SIMULTANEOUSLY AND INTERMITTENTLY. MECHANIC DIAGNOSED AS A WIRING PROBLEM OR BAD ABS MODULE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 FORD WINDSTAR. WHILE EN ROUTE TO NEW YORK AND DRIVING 60 MPH, THE DOOR LOCKS DID NOT FUNCTION AND WERE NOT PROGRAMMED. WHEN THE CONTACT ACTIVATED THE CRUISE CONTROL, THE ABS, DOOR LIGHTS, AND EMERGENCY BRAKE LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. HALFWAY TO HER DESTINATION, SHE HAD TO STOP AT A REPAIR SHOP AND PAY FOR THEM TO INSPECT THE VEHICLE SO THAT SHE COULD CONTINUE DRIVING. THE MECHANIC CHECKED THE BRAKE LINE AND PADS AND INFORMED HER THAT THE VEHICLE WAS FUNCTIONAL. THE BATTERY WAS ALSO REPAIRED. WITHIN 2-3 WEEKS, THE SAME LIGHTS ILLUMINATED AGAIN. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 55,394 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 53,200. UPDATED 07/29/08 *BF THE CONSUMER ALSO STATE THE VEHICLE HAD AN OIL LEAK IN THE OIL PAN NEAR THE OIL GASKET. THE LOW TIRE PRESSURE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE CONSUMER WAS INFORMED THAT THE NEW BATTERY WAS CAUSING ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS THEY WERE EXPERIENCING. UPDATED 07/29/08

THE VEHICLE ABS WARNING LIGHT AND BRAKE WARNING LIGHT GO ON AND OFF. DIAGNOSTIC CODE OF C1185. NO VIABLE REASON FOR THE FAILURE. LIGHTS ARE ILLUMINATED ON THE DASH BOARD REGULARLY BUT WITH NO PARTICULAR PATTERN OR REASON. LOSS OF ABS BREAKS AS A RESULT. FEARFUL OF ACCIDENT OR VEHICLE FIRE DUE TO ISSUE. NOTHING DONE TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM AS THERE DOES NOT SEEM TO BE A CLEARCUT SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM WITHOUT IMPACTING OTHER FUNCTIONS OF THE VEHICLE. ADDITIONAL ISSUE WITH INTERIOR CABIN LIGHTS GOING ON AND OFF WHILE DRIVING. THIS IS DISTRACTING AT NIGHT AND COULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. THIS IS A PRODUCT DEFECT THAT HAS BEEN HAPPENING SINCE 2007. I WILL NOT PAY TO FIX SOMETHING THAT HAPPENS IN MANY OF THE SAME MODELS AND IS CLEARLY A DEFECT THAT SHOULD BE RECALLED. I'VE TOLD THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAY I NEED TO PAY TO HAVE A MODULAR REPLACED. *TR

OUR VAN HAS HAD THIS ISSUE TWICE NOW AND NEEDS TO BE A RECALL ITEM AS FORD IS WELL AWARE OF THE ISSUE AND THE MAJOR SAFETY ISSUES IT PRESENTS! CAR OPERATES FINE WHEN THESE LIGHTS COME ON. I AM WORRIED ABOUT A VEHICLE FIRE. THIS IS STILL AN ONGOING PROBLEM IN MY CAR. SEARCHED THE WEB AND MANY OTHER FORD MINIVANS HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. WITHIN A FEW MINUTES OF STARTING THE VAN AN DRIVING OUT OF THE NEIGHBORHOOD, THE CONSOLE LIGHTS FLICKERED AND THERE WAS A WISP OF SMOKE FROM WITHIN THE DASHBOARD AREA, THOUGH I DIDN'T WITNESS ANY FLAMES. THE CONSOLE ABS AND BRAKE LIGHTS CAME ON. I SUBSEQUENTLY REPLACED THE BATTERY IN CASE IT WAS WEAK, BUT SINCE THAT TIME THE ABS AND BRAKE LIGHTS HAVE COME ON AND OFF INTERMITTENTLY. IF THEY DO COME ON, SOMETIMES I CAN MAKE THEM TURN OFF BY TURNING THE VAN OFF AND RESTARTING IT. *TR
I HAVE A 2003 FORD WINDSTAR. AT LEAST A YEAR AGO MY BRAKE AND ABS LIGHTS STARTED ILLUMINATING. THEY CAME ON INTERMITTENTLY. I HAD THE ABS SYSTEM SCANNED ONCE AND WAS TOLD THE ABS RELAY WAS BAD. I HAVEN'T REPLACED THE RELAY BECAUSE THE BRAKES WORK FINE. I THINK THE ABS WORKS FINE TOO. MY RESEARCH ON-LINE INDICATES THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THESE VEHICLES. *TR
ON ALMOST EVERY TRIP THE ABS AND BRAKE WARNING LIGHTS COME ON THE DASH. DEALER STATED A PROBLEM CODE C1185 AND SAID THE ABS MODULE WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED FOR ABOUT $800. *TR
ABS WARNING LAMP AND BRAKE WARNING LAMP ILLUMINATES. MECHANIC ADVISES ME THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM ON THESE MODELS. EVIDENTLY FORD WILL NOT RECOGNIZE THE ISSUE AND HELP US TO RESOLVE IT. TL*THE CONTACT WAS RENTING A 2003 FORD WINDSTAR. WHILE DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT STOP. THE CONTACT NOTICED SMOKE AND THE BRAKE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT CONTROL PANEL. SHE HAD TO APPLY PRESSURE TO THE BRAKE PEDAL SEVERAL TIMES IN ORDER TO STOP THE VEHICLE. SHE CALLED THE RENTAL COMPANY AND THEY STATED THAT THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE BRAKE SYSTEM. THEY CONCLUDED THAT THE BRAKE SYSTEM POSSIBLY NEEDED TO BE SERVICED. THE VIN AND SPEED WERE UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 62,221.
I WAS DRIVING ALONG AND SUDDENLY THE EMERGENCY BRAKE LIGHT, THE ABS LIGHT, THE TRACTION LIGHT, AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. THE ODOMETER, AND DASHBOARD FUEL INFO SYSTEM DIDN'T WORK, THE SPEEDOMETER STOPPED WORKING. THE WORDS "CHECK TRANSMISSION" CAME ON THE INFO SCREEN. I TOOK THE CAR TO THREE DIFFERENT MECHANICS AND NO ONE CAN FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH MY VEHICLE. I WAS TOLD THAT THE CAR IS FINE AND THEY CAN'T FIND ANY REASON FOR THESE LIGHTS TO BE ON OR HOW TO GET THEM TO GO OFF. *TR
POWER STEERING PUMP MAKES LOUD NOISES THAT CAN BE HEARD OVER A BLOCK AWAY. HAD PUMP REPLACED TWICE STILL MAKES THE NOISE. REPLACEMENT PUMPS WERE REBUILT. ALSO WHEN PUMP MAKES NOISE THE INTERIOR LIGHTS FLICKER BUT NOT ALL OF THE TIME. *TR
EMERGENCY BRAKE LIGHT CAME ON AROUND THREE MONTHS AGO. THE EMERGENCY BRAKE WAS NOT ENGAGED AND THIS HAD NO EFFECT ON THE RUNNING OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE BRAKES STARTED GOING TO THE FLOOR WHEN WE FOUND THE SWITCH AT THE BOTTOM OF THE MASTER CYLINDER WAS LEAKING AND DEFECTIVE. WE RAN OUT OF BRAKE FLUID. WE HAVE REPLACED THE DEFECTIVE SWITCH AND BLED THE BRAKE LINES TO MAKE SURE EVERYTHING WORKS AGAIN. *TR
WE BOUGHT OUR 2003 WINDSTAR IN AUGUST OF 2006 USED FROM A CAR LOT. IN THE SPRING OF 2008 THE LOCKS ON THE DRIVER SIDE REAR DOOR WILL LOCK AND UNLOCK ON THEIR OWN. IT DOESN'T MATTER IF WE ARE PARKED OR DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND ALL OF A SUDDEN YOU HEAR THIS AWFUL SOUND. SHORTLY AFTER THAT I NOTICED LEAKING FROM THE DRIVER SIDE IN THE FRONT BEHIND THE TIRE AND THEN THE STEERING WAS MAKING A NOISE AND BEGINNING TO TURN HARD. WE ENDED UP REPLACING THE RACK AND PINION AND THE POWER STEERING PUMP. THEN IN OCTOBER 2009 WE ENDED UP REPLACING THE WHEEL BEARING ON THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE. WE WERE TOLD THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS GOING OUT. WE HAD A MECHANIC FRIEND OF OURS COME AND TAKE A LOOK TO HAVE IT DONE CHEAPER. WE THEN FOUND OUT THAT THE RADIATOR WAS ALSO GOING OUT. SO WE HAD IT PARKED AND REPLACED THE RADIATOR IN JANUARY OF 2010 AND LEFT IT PARKED BECAUSE WE COULDN'T AFFORD TO PAY FOR THE NEW TRANSMISSION AT THE TIME. IT HAD ROUGHLY 13X,XXX MILES ON IT WHEN IT FAILED. WE FINALLY BOUGHT ANOTHER ONE AND REPLACED THIS IN FEBRUARY OF 2010. WE HAVE JUST REPLACED THE WHEEL BEARING ON THE RIGHT SIDE IN THE BEGINNING OF NOVEMBER OF 2010. WE HAVE NOW TAKEN IT IN FOR THE RECALL AND FOUND OUT THAT IT HAS 3 CRACKS IN IT. THE DEALERSHIP WANTS EXTRA MONEY TO CHECK THE SUBFRAME SO I AM WAITING FOR OUR MECHANIC FRIEND TO TAKE A LOOK AND SEE WHAT OTHER SURPRISE WE MAY HAVE. ONCE WE FIND OUT I WILL BE REPORTING BACK ABOUT THE SUBFRAME IF IT ALSO HAS AN ISSUE. WE ARE VERY FRUSTRATED BECAUSE WE STILL OWE $5600 ON THIS AND HAVE ALREADY PAID SO MUCH FOR THIS OVERPRICED VAN ON TOP OF ALL THE MONEY WE PUT IN TO IT. SHE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND THEY CLEANED THE WHEEL SPEED SENSOR. THREE WEEKS LATER, THE FAILURE RESURFACED. CURRENTLY, THE FAILURE STILL PERSISTS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 63,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 70,000.
LAST WEEK, MY PARENTS WERE DRIVING MY 2003 FORD WINDSTAR HOME FROM BREAKFAST WITH FRIENDS. THE FRIENDS WERE FOLLOWING THEM HOME, WHEN THEY SAW FIRE COMING FROM THE BOTTOM OF THE VAN. THEY IMMEDIATELY BEGAN HONKING THEIR HORN TO GET MY PARENTS TO PULL OVER. MY DAD STOPPED THE VAN THEY FRANTICLY GOT THEMSELVES AND MY 4 AND 6 YEAR OLD CHILDREN OUT OF THE VAN. WITHIN 3-4 MINUTES OF EVERYONE GETTING OUT, THE VAN WAS COMPLETELY ENGULFED IN FLAMES. AND THE VAN WAS REDUCED TO JUST METAL WITH IN LESS THAN 10 MINUTES. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED BY THE DEALER. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 68,000.
MY WIFE AND I BOUGHT OUR VAN AFTER OWNING A 2000 FORD WINDSTAR. I USED TO WORK FOR A FORD DEALERSHIP AND HAVE ONLY OWNED FORD VEHICLES MOST OF MY LIFE. THIS VAN HAS CHANGED MY MIND AND I WILL HAVE TO THINK LONG AND HARD BEFORE BUYING ANOTHER FORD. OUR VAN HAS BEEN A PROBLEM EVER SINCE WE DROVE IT OFF THE LOT. ON THE WAY HOME THE RIGHT FRONT DOOR WINDOW QUIT WORKING AND TOOK TWO TRIPS TO THE DEALER TO REPAIR. LIKE OTHER PEOPLE HAVE SAID THE ELECTRIC SIDE DOORS HAVE A MIND OF THERE OWN OPENING A CLOSING ON THERE OWN. THERE IS A LOUD POP EVERY TIME THE SIDE DOORS OPEN. AFTER SEVERAL TRIPS TO THE DEALER NOTHING WAS DONE. THE ENGINE KEEPS REVVING UP TO THE POINT THAT YOU HAVE TO STAND ON THE BRAKES AT A RED LIGHT TO KEEP IT FROM RUNNING INTO THE INTERSECTION. THE DEALER AGAIN LOOKED AT THE SEVERAL TIMES AND NOTHING HAS BEEN FOUND. AS A FORMER MECHANIC I HAVE BEEN FOOLED BY THIS ALSO AND HAVE REPLACED THE THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR HOPING THAT WOULD FIX IT WITH NO LUCK. THE VAN WOULD NOT START AT TIMES AND WOULD HAVE TO BE JUMPED OFF. THE BATTERY WAS REPLACED AS A PRECAUTIONARY MEASURE BECAUSE THIS IS MY WIFE AND KIDS IN THIS CAR AND I WANT TO TAKE NO CHANCES. FINELY I WAS AROUND ONE TIME IT WOULD NOT START AND FOUND THE ALTERNATOR TO BE BAD. REPLACING IT AND NIGHTMARE BUT THAT ANOTHER STORY. NOW THE VAN STILL IDLES HIGH AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND OR LOOSE FUEL CAP LIGHT IS ON. THIS VAN IS A PIECE OF JUNK AND I REGRET THE DAY I BOUGHT IT. I AM IN MY FOURTEENTH YEAR AS A DEPUTY SHERIFF. I DO NOT WANT ANY THING BUT A FORD AS MY PATROL UNIT AFTER WORKING ON AND DRIVING EVERY KIND OF CAR OUT THERE. MY FORD WINDSTAR HAS HAD ALL OF IT'S BRAKES REDONE TWICE BECAUSE OF FAILURE OF ABS SYSTEM. AS I HAVE BEEN DRIVING THE ABS LIGHTS ALONG WITH THE BRAKE LIGHTS WILL COME ON THE DASHBOARD. MY WIFE PULLED UP TO STOP AND WHEN THE LIGHT CHANGED SHE HAD NO GEARS FROM THE TRANSMISSION. NO WARNING SIGNS OR SOUNDS. WE HAD THE VAN TOED TO THE NEAREST DEALERSHIP( CHAMPION FORD) IT WAS DIAGNOSED AS A INTERNAL TRANSMISSION FAILURE. WE WERE TOLD IT WOULD BE 3,319.94 TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION AND FLUSH THE SYSTEM. IF WE WANTED TO HAVE THE TRANSMISSION TAKEN APART TO FIND THE FAILURE WE WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THE TEAR DOWN AND IF IT STILL HAD TO BE REPLACED THEN THE REPLACEMENT COST WOULD BE ADDED. WHAT DO YOU DO? THE VAN ONLY HAS ABOUT 75K MILES ON IT. I AUTHORIZED THE REPLACEMENT. UPON TALKING WITH A PRIOR FORD MECHANIC (RETIRED NOW) I WAS TOLD THAT THIS IS AN ONGOING PROBLEM WITH THE WINDSTAR TRANSMISSION. AFTER DOING A LITTLE RESEARCH ON THE WEB I SEE THAT IT IS STILL A PROBLEM IN VANS NEWER AND WITH LOWER MILEAGE THAN MY OWN. THERE IS A PROBLEM HERE FORD. FIX IT! *TR
SINCE WE GOT OUR 2003 FORD WINDSTAR NEW IN DECEMBER, 2002, WE HAVE ALWAYS HAD AN ISSUE WITH CONSTANTLY NEEDING TO FILL THE BRAKE FLUID. THE FORD DEALERSHIP SAID THEY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG. IN FEB, 2008 OUR ABS AND BRAKE LIGHT CAME ON. TOOK IT TO A FIRESTONE REPAIR SHOP, THEY FIXED AND AKJUSTED THE BRAKES AND THEY SAID IT WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKE SENSOR AND THAT THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE BRAKES WHEN THEY WERE FINISHED, JUST THE LIGHT WAS ON AND WE NEEDED TO REPLACE THE SENSOR. AS IT WAS EXTREMELY COSTLY AND THEY TOLD US THERE WAS NOTHING FURTHER WRONG WITH THE BRAKES, WE CHOOSE NOT TO REPLACE IT. IN JUNE 2008 OUR CRUISE CONTROL STOPPED WORKING. WE AGAIN TOOK IT IN AND THEY COULD NOT FIGURE OUT WHAT WAS WRONG. TWO WEEKS AGO, AUGUST, 2009, WE HAD ALL NEW BRAKES PUT ON. JUST YESTERDAY, AUGUST 21, 2009, OUR BRAKE FLUID WAS ALMOST EMPTY. WE TOOK IT BACK TO THE PLACE WE HAD THE BRAKES PUT ON, AND THEY JUST FILLED THE BRAKE FLUID AND SAID THERE WAS AN AIR BUBBLE. UPON DRIVING HOME FROM THE REPAIR SHOP, WE NOTICED THAT OUR SPEEDOMETER AND ODOMETER HAD STOPPED WORKING AND THE OVERDRIVE LIGHT WAS NOW FLASHING. SO, WE HAVE THE FOLLOWING WARNING LIGHTS ON OUR CONTROL PANEL: ABS, BRAKE, OVERDRIVE; AND THE FOLLOWING ITEMS NOT WORKING: ABS, SPEEDOMETER, ODOMETER, OVERDRIVE; AND A CONTINUALLY DISAPPEARING BRAKE FLUID PROBLEM.
