Started losing power and had problems cranking. Now won't cranking at all. P0123 error code.
The contact owned a 2008 GMC Acadia. The contact stated that while driving at 65 MPH, a grayish-colored smoke as well as an abnormal sound emit from the engine without warning. The contact pulled over and exited the vehicle as the vehicle was quickly engulfed in flames. The contact called the fire department and they extinguished the fire. A fire report was filed(#23-046145) and no injuries were reported. The contact stated that the highway barrier was damaged as a result of the fire. The vehicle was then towed to an independent mechanic where it remained in their possession. The dealer nor the manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The vehicle was deemed a total loss. The failure mileage was approximately 200,000.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 GMC ACADIA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, AN ABNORMAL NOISE APPEARED UNDERNEATH THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE HOOD. NO WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ENGINE WAS CONSUMING AN EXCESSIVE AMOUNT OF OIL. NO LEAKS WERE PRESENT. THE VEHICLE RECEIVED AN OIL CHANGE HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND A CASE WAS FILED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 153,245.

THE TIMING CHAIN BROKE WHICH IN TURN BROKE THE ENGINE AS WELL. IT HAPPENED AS I WAS EXITING THE HIGHWAY, IT JUST STALLED AND WOULD NOT START AGAIN.
WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY THE ENGINE LOCKED IN THE MIDDLE LANE OF BUSY TRAFFIC
CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON DUE TO JUMPED TIMING 3 DAYS AFTER WE HAD PURCHASED THE VEHICLE FROM A DEALERSHIP AND A LITTLE OVER A YEAR LATER IT HAD JUMPED TIMING AGAIN SO NOW I HAVE TO COME UP WITH 800 TO TEAR DOWN THE MOTOR SO THEY CAN PROPERLY DIAGNOSE IT. SO I DO NOT HAVE THE MONEY FOR THAT SO NOW I AM STUCK WITH A VEHICLE THAT I AM PAYING FOR AND CANNOT DRIVE. IT IS SITTING IN MY DRIVEWAY AS WE SPEAK. THE VEHICLE WAS IN THE DRIVEWAY AND WE WERE GETTING READY TO LEAVE WHEN IT HAPPENED. BOTH TIMES. THE DATES IT HAPPENED WERE 1/5/2018 WITH 137000 MILES ON IT AND THE OTHER DATE WAS 2/5/2019 AND IT HAS 152045 MILES ON IT.

THE CONTACT WAS ALSO INFORMED BY ANOTHER INDEPENDENT MECHANIC THAT THE ENTIRE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 142,293.
MY TRACTION CONTROL AND SERVICE STABILITRAK LIGHT KEEPS COMING ON. NOW MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND SAYS CAMSHAFT SENSOR. I TOOK TO A MECHANIC AND THEY SAID THAT I NEED A NEW MOTOR.
WHILE ACCELERATING I'VE NOTICED MY VEHICLE HAS SOME TYPE OF WAVE PLATE ISSUE BUT IT SEEMS COMMON FOR THESE VEHICLES. IT JERKS AND SHAKES AND IT'S NOT SAFE.
THE TIMING CHAIN IS GOING BAD FOR NO REASON, AND I KNOW IS NOT OLTHE ONLY ONE, A FRIEND OF MINE HAS THE SAME TRUCK WITH THE SAME PROBLEM FOR NO REASON AS WELL... 2008 GMC ACADIA WITH 140,000 MILES RAN FINE ON SATURDAY 11/24/18. NO NOISE, NO ISSUES, NO WARNING LIGHTS. MONDAY 11/26/18, ENGINE WOULD TURN OVER, BUT NOT CRANK. AGAIN, NO NOISE, ETC. HAD TOWED TO A LOCAL GMC DEALERSHIP THAT HAS COMPLETED ALL WORK AND MAINTENANCE ON CAR. RESULTS=? BROKEN TIMING CHAIN. ???? THERE WAS A RECALL ON 2007 AND 2009 GMC ACADIA'S. IF THERE WAS ASSISTANCE WITH 2007 AND 2009, HOW COULD THEY NOT HAVE SCA/RECALL FOR 2008. IT IS OBVIOUS THAT THE PROBLEM WAS NOT CORRECTED IN 2007 OR THEY WOULD NOT HAVE HAD TO INCLUDE 2009. THIS IS THE 3RD TIME HAPPENING. DRIVING NORMALLY ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON AND ENGINE DOESN'T CHANGE GEARS IT STAYS ON 1ST GEAR I HAVE TO PULL OVER. TURN THE CAR OFF AND TURN IT BACK ON A FEW TIMES AND TRIED TO DRIVE TO SEE IF IT STARTS CHANGING GEARS AGAIN UNTIL I CAN GET TO AUTO SHOP / DEALER. THEY CHECK THE CAR WITH COMPUTER GIVES CODE P0700 , THEY HAVE BEEN TRYING TO FIND OUT WHATS THE ISSUE WITH THE CAR. EVERYWHERE WE LOOK UP ONLINE TONS OF PEOPLE WITH THE SAME SITUATION . GMC IS A BIG COMPANY THEY NEED TO MAKE A RECALL ON TRANSMISSION THIS IS INSANE HOW MANY PROBLEMS ACADIA FROM 2007 TILL 2009 HAVE BEEN HAVING . QUIRK AUTO OF BANGOR, MAINE (295 HOGAN RD, 04401) WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE, BUT THE SOURCE OF THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DETERMINED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 95,000.
TIMING CHAIN WAS REPLACED ABOUT 3,000 MILES AGO. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT APPEARED JUST MINUTES BEFORE EXITING ONTO THE HIGHWAY. I ACCELERATED TO A MAXIMUM OF 45MPH BEFORE THE ENGINE STARTED TO "PUTT" AND THEN I THOUGHT THE TRANSMISSION WENT OUT ON THE VEHICLE, THE RPM SKYROCKETED, I SLOWED THE VEHICLE DOWN TO PULL OVER AND IT STARTED SMOKING / STEAMING AND OIL AND WATER WERE SPEWING OUT ALL OVER THE VEHICLE. I THOUGHT IT WAS ON FIRE. SEVERAL PASSERS-BY NOTICED AND CALLED POLICE REPORTING THAT MY VEHICLE WAS ON FIRE, I CALLED A TOW TRUCK. GOT A RIDE TO WORK. TOWED TO THE DEALER / SERVICE CENTER WHO REPLACED TIMING CHAIN. THEY SAID THE ENGINE IS SHOT. 2 PISTONS FELL OUT. CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT NEEDS TO OCCUR ON THIS VEHICLE. IT IS A PILE OF JUNK TO FIX AND EXTREMELY UNSAFE. TIMING CHAIN AND TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. ENGINE PROBLEMS. UNRECALLED, DEFECTIVE TIMING CHAINS IN THESE GMC ACADIA'S CAUSE CATASTROPHIC PERMANENT UNSAFE ENGINE DAMAGE. GMC WILL NOT RECALL UNLESS THEY ARE FORCED TO, DUE TO THE COST OF REPLACING THE ENTIRE ENGINE AFTER THE TIMING CHAIN FAILURES. I THOUGHT THE VEHICLE WAS GOING TO EXPLODE WHEN I PULLED OVER WHEN THE ENGINE FAILED; I JUMPED OUT AND BACKED AWAY TO A SAFE DISTANCE. SCARIEST DRIVING MOMENT I'VE EVER EXPERIENCE. A CLASS ACTION NEEDS TO OCCUR IN ORDER FOR THEM TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS ONCE AND FOR ALL.
TAKATA RECALL. I PURCHASED THE CAR IN 2012 AND IN 2014 I NOTICED THE ANTIFREEZE WAS LOW. I FILLED IT WITH DEXCOOL AND WATCHED IT. OVER THE PAST FEW YEARS THE CAR HAS BEEN IN CLOSE TO 20 TIMES BECAUSE THE COOLANT IS LOW. RECENTLY I NOTICED THE CAR HAD A CLASS III LEAK OF DEXCOOL COMING FROM THE FRONT RIGHT WHEEL AREA, I TOOK IT AND THEY SAID IT WAS THE PRESSURE RELEASE AND I HAD OVERFILLED IT. YESTERDAY WHILE DRIVING ON THE AUTOBAHN IN SPEEDS OF 90+ MPH THE BATTERY LEVEL DROPPED ALL THE LIGHTS CAME ON AND THE RIGHT FRONT ENGINE AREA WAS STEAMING. I HAVE TAKEN TO ANOTHER MECHANIC AND I AM STILL WAITING TO HEAR WHAT IS WRONG. THE CAR HAS BEEN TO MANY GMC DEALERS EACH SAYING THAT THEY HAVE SEEN THE PROBLEM BUT AREN'T ABLE TO FIND THE PROBLEM. NONE OF THE LIGHTS WERE ON AND THE CAR HAS NEVER OVERHEATED EVEN YESTERDAY THE TEMP WAS STILL NORMAL. THERE IS NOW A PUDDLE OF DEXCOOL WHERE THE CAR IS PARKED AT THE SHOP AND BECAUSE I AM STATIONED IN GERMANY NOW AND CAN'T TAKE IT TO ANOTHER DEALERSHIP. *TR
I NOTICED A LEAK IN MY DRIVEWAY UNDER MY 2008 ACADIA. I IMMEDIATELY TOOK IT TO DEALERSHIP SO THEY COULD FIND OUT WHERE IT WAS LEAKING. THEY FOUND THE ENGINE LEAKING IN SEVERAL PLACES INCLUDING THE FRONT COVER. IN ADDITION TO THE ENGINE LEAKING, THEY ALSO FOUND THE WATER PUMP TO BE LEAKING AND IN NEED OF BEING REPLACED. WHILE PUTTING NEW SEALS IN THE ENGINE, THEY FOUND THAT THE TIMING CHAINS WERE SHOWING SIGNS OF WEAR AS WELL. ALL IN ALL, THE CAR NEEDED SEVERAL SEALS REPLACED, THE TIMING CHAINS REPLACED, THE WATER PUMP REPLACED, AND THE POWER STEERING PUMP REPLACED. THE CAR ONLY HAS 73000 MILES ON IT!
PURCHASED NEW, HAVE HAD THE FOLLOWING PROBLEMS 2011 :WATER PUMP FAILED, AND ENGINE OIL LEAK NEW PUMP AND GASKETS,2012: OIL PRESSURE SENSOR REPLACED, 2013: WAVE PLATE BROKEN SENT METAL THROUGH TRANSMISSION MAJOR TRANSMISSION REPAIR, FRONT AND REAR A/C FAILED AND NEEDED REPLACEMENT. 2014: MASTER CYLINDER LEAKING - REPLACED. 2016: PURGE SOLENOID STUCK OPEN WAS REPLACED, OIL LEAK- TIMING COVER LEAKING (DID NOT REPLACE- TOO EXPENSIVE)- MULTIPLE CALLS TO GMC AND DEALING WITH THE DEALER NOT SATISFIED AND FEEL THE CAR IS A SAFETY RISK.
