4-WHEEL DRIVE LIGHT, MY 2003 $35,000 ENVOY'S SERVICE 4-WHEEL DRIVE LIGHT CAME ON THE FIRST TIME AT 574 MILES. THE SECOND TIME AT 4,242 MILES. THE THIRD TIME AT 6,490 MILES. THE FOURTH TIME AT 9,387 MILES. IT WAS THEN TOWED IN FOR A FIFTH TIME JUST AFTER THAT FOR SEVERAL OTHER PROBLEMS. IT WENT THROUGH THREE IGNITION SWITCHES IN ONE WEEK. IT HAS HAD THE TRANSFER CASE MODULES, ACTUATORS, FRONT HUBS AND MORE DONE. IT HAS BEEN REPROGRAMED EACH TIME AS WELL. I HAVE ONLY OWNED THE VEHICLE FOR 9 MONTHS. I CONTACTED GM ABOUT THIS AND WAS TOLD ABOUT A REPURCHASE THEN TOLD NO. I HATE MY ENVOY AND I WILL NEVER PURCHASE ANOTHER GM PRODUCT!!!!!!! EVERYONE THAT ASKS ME ABOUT IT I TELL THEM MY STORY SO I HOPE IT GETS AROUND HOW BAD THIS IS AND HOW BAD THIS SUCKS! MY DEALERSHIP HAS BEEN HELPFUL BUT THE REPS FROM GM SUCK! I WAS NEVER GIVEN A REASON AS TO WHY THE GM REP (MOIZ AHMAD) SAID "NO" AND I WAS TOLD THAT HE NOT ONLY DOESN'T HAVE TO GIVE A REASON THAT HE DOESN'T HAVE TO CALL ME WHEN I ASKED FOR HIM TO. AND... THEY WILL NOT GIVE ME ANY INFORMATION TO EVEN CONTACT THIS GUY. "THEY DON'T HAVE TO". THEN WHEN I COMPLAINED THAT THIS WAS "UNEXCEPTABLE" AND ASKED TO SPEAK WITH A SUPERVISOR THE SUPERVISOR HUNG UP ON ME!!! I WAS NOT VERY SUPRISED TO SEE THAT I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE WITH THIS PROBLEM. I LOOKED UP THE SERVICE BULLETINS AND RECALLS (AT ALLDATA.COM) AND THERE WERE SEVERAL BULLETINS ON THIS. GM NEEDS TO GET THE ENVOYS ACT TOGETHER!!!! I AM GOING THROUGH NY STATE LEMON LAW NOW. FAULTY WIRING IN BRAKE LIGHT CAUSED VEHICLE TO CATCH ON FIRE. GM HAS OFFERED TO REPAIR BUT I STILL DON'T FEEL IT IS SAFE. *JB
VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A FRONT COLLISION ACCIDENT AT 15 MPH DUE TO WEATHER. UPON IMPACT, AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. DEALER WAS INFORMED BY CONSUMER. *AK THE CONSUMER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE COULD ONLY BE TURNED OFF BY CUTTING THE BATTERY CABLES. *TC
STEERING FAILED WHEN IN 4 WHEEL HI ALSO FRONT WHEELS LOCKED THERE WAS A RUBBING NOISE UNDER THE VEHICLE. SOUNDED LIKE THE TRANSMISSION WAS FALLING APART. HAD THIS PROBLEM BEFORE AND TOLD BY THE DEALER CAN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG. HAD THIS VEHICLE ONLY 4 MONTHS. MAJOR PROBLEMS WITH 4 WHEEL DRIVE. *CB
WHEN DRIVING OVER 55 MPH WIND CAUSED VEHICLE TO SHIFT FROM SIDE TO SIDE. ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS THE WIND CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO BE PUSHED INTO A DITCH OFF OF THE ROAD. THERE HAD BEEN SLIGHT INJURIES SUSTAINED BOTH INSTANCES. *AK
FAULTY DRIVER SIDE SEAT BELT THAT WILL NOT RELEASE TO FASTEN. I HAVE TAKEN THE CAR IN AND THE REPAIR PERSON SAID THAT THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG, AND THAT IT JUST WAS CATCHING ON SOMETHING. ALSO, THE PASSENGER SIDE DOOR BEHIND THE DRIVERS SEAT WAS VERY HARD TO OPEN THE REPAIR PERSON AT THE SAME DEALERSHIP BROKE THE HANDLE TRYING TO OPEN THE DOOR. THE REPAIR SHOP DID FIX THE HANDLE FOR FREE, HOWEVER THE DOOR REMAINS STILL VERY HARD TO OPEN AND I WOULD NOT USE THIS PARTICULAR DOOR. AFTER A WHILE THE DOOR WOULD NOT CLOSE AND THE DOOR LATCH HAD TO BE REPLACED AT MY EXPENSE. THE BACK WINDOW WOULD NOT GO ALL THE WAY UP AND THE ACTUATOR HAD TO BE REPLACED ALSO. I AM NOT SURE WHAT MONTH THE FIRST INCIDENCE TOOK PLACE, BUT EVERYTHING SEEMED TO HAPPEN QUICKLY AFTERWARDS.*JB
I OWN A 2003 ENVOY SLE. WE HAVE HAD REPEATED PROBLEMS WITH THIS VEHICLE VIBRATING AND MAKING ENGINE NOISE. I HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO TWO DIFFERENT SERVICE DEPARTMENTS (REPEATED TIMES). ONE FINALLY RECOGNIZED THAT THE NOISE EXISTED. AFTER THEY DROVE TWO OTHER ENVOYS THEY DETERMINED THAT THE NOISE WAS INHERENT TO THE VEHICLE. THE SOUND IS LIKE A BUBBLING METALLIC SOUND THAT CANNOT BE GOOD FOR THE VEHICLE. NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE TO CORRECT THE FAILURE, I HAVE BEEN TOLD TO LIVE WITH IT.
WHEN FILLING UP THE GAS TANK, OFTEN TIMES THE PUMP WILL NOT STOP AND THE PUMP WILL RUN ABOUT 3-5 SECONDS LONGER THAN IT SHOULD, CAUSING GAS TO SPILL. DEALER CHECKED AND FOUND NO PROBLEMS (BUT SAW ON THE WEBSITE ANOTHER USER EXPERIENCED THE SAME THING). *JB
WHILE DRIVING THE 4 WHEEL DRIVE AUTOMATICALLY ENGAGED. THE CONSUMER TRIED TO MANUALLY DISENGAGE IT SEVERAL TIMES. THE DEALERSHIP WAS NOTIFIED, BUT HAS BEEN UNABLE TO RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY ADDITIONAL INFORMATION. *NM
WHEN VEHICLE STARTED UP, 4-WHEEL DRIVE LIGHT CAME ON. DIAGNOSED AS NO CODES STORED IN ATCM. OLD ATCM PROGRAMMING SCANNED FOR CODES NO CODES STORED. REFLASHED ATCM WITH NEW UPDATE. *AK
THE TRUCK WAS INVOLVED IN A HEAD ON COLLISION AT 30 MPH. THE TRUCK SPUN AROUND AND WAS HIT AGAIN ON THE DRIVER SIDE. THE FRONTAL AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY, BUT THE SIDE AIRBAG DEPLOYED UPON IMPACT. THE ENTIRE FRAME NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE DRIVER SUSTAINED BACK, NECK AND KNEE INJURIES AS A RESULT. *JB
WHEN THE LIGHT WENT OUT ON THE 4-WHEEL DRIVE, THE CONSUMER HAD TO THE SHUT VEHICLE OFF AND RESTART THE 4-WHEEL DRIVE.*AK DURING SNOW CONDITIONS, THE OWNER FOUND OUT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT SHIFT TO 4 WHEEL DRIVE WHEN THE INDICATOR LIGHT WAS ON. IN ORDER TO RESTORE 4 WHEEL DRIVE THE VEHICLE MUST BE SHUT DOWN AND STARTED AGAIN UNTIL IT LIGHTS UP . THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN WORKED ON THREE TIMES WITH NO REPAIR ORDERS PROVIDED. *CB *JB
WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH, THE LEFT REAR TIRE BLEW OUT. THE DRIVER ATTEMPTED TO STEER THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD BUT THE VEHICLE ROLLED OVER TWICE AND LANDED UPRIGHT. THE FRONT AND SIDE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE DRIVER SUSTAINED MINOR BRUISES. *AK *SC *JB
WHILE DRIVING AT 65 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL JERKED HARD TO LEFT. THE VEHICLE THEN SUDDENLY ACCELERATED WITHOUT ANY WARNING. THE DRIVER WAS ABLE TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE AND PULL OVER TO THE SHOULDER. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED. THE MECHANIC NOTICED THAT THE REAR PASSENGER WHEEL HAD FOLDED UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE. THE AXLE HAD SHEARED OFF AND NEEDED REPLACING. *PH
MY WIFE WAS DRIVING AROUND 35 MPH DURING A CLEAR DAY WHEN SUDDENLY THE STEERING WHEEL OF OUR 2003 GMC ENVOY STARTED WOBBLING AND SHE COULDN'T CONTROL IT ANYMORE. SHE STEPPED ON THE BRAKES BUT THE VEHICLE WOULDN'T STOP. THE VEHICLE WENT OVER THE CURB AND INITIALLY HIT A UTILITY POLE ON THE LEFT PASSENGER SIDE, THEN EVENTUALLY HIT THE TREE WITH THE FRONT BUMPER AND KNOCKED THE TWO STATIONARY OBJECTS DOWN. SURPRISINGLY, THE AIRBAG DIDN'T EVEN DEPLOY. THE INSURANCE COMPANY DECLARED THE VEHICLE TOTAL WRECKED AND UNREPAIRABLE. AS EXPECTED, GMC DECLINED RESPONSIBILITIES. THEY SENT A SO CALLED INDEPENDENT INVESTIGATOR BUT THEY WOULDN'T GIVE ME HIS PHONE NUMBER. THE REPORT THEY SENT CONTAINED ONLY RAW DATA ABOUT THE AIRBAG AND NOTHING ABOUT THE STEERING WHEEL. I WILL NEVER BUY OR RECOMMEND A GMC AGAIN.*AK
THE FIRST TIME THE WIND NOISE BECAME SUCH AN ISSUE IS WHEN THE CAR HAD ONLY A FEW THOUSAND MILES ON IT AND I WAS DRIVING ON AN INTERSTATE WITH A STIFF CROSS WIND. THE NOISE WAS SO LOUD THAT WHEN I TRIED TO USE THE ONSTAR TO CALL THE DEALER AND HAVE HIM LISTEN TO THE NOISE, THE ONSTAR KEPT SAYING SLOWER PLEASE, SLOWER PLEASE EVEN THOUGH I WASNT YET SPEAKING. IT WAS THE WIND THE ONSTAR WAS LISTENING TO. I HAVE VISITED THE DEALER IN MOOREHEAD SEVERAL TIMES AND THE GMC PLACE IN MINOT TO TRY TO STOP THE NOISE AND THE HAVE REDUCED THE WIND NOISE BUT I STILL GET AN UNACCEPTABLE LEVEL OF NOISE. I HAVE TO TAKE A VACATION DAY TO TAKE THE VEHICLE INTO THE DEALER 90 MILES AWAY AND THEN EVEN THO I KNOW THEY ARE TRYING, THEY JUST SEEM TO MOVE THE NOISE AROUND. A CAR THAT WINDOWS FOR ALMOST 40K SHOULD BE AT LEAST AS QUIET AS MY DAUGHTER 6 YEAR OLD NEON. WOULDN'T YOU SAY? I BELIEVE THAT THIS VEHICLE WILL NEVER BE QUIET UNLESS YOU ARE TRAVELING LESS THAN 30 MPH DOWN THE ROAD AND WITH THE WIND. I HAVE VISITED THE DEALER SHIP AT LEAST 4 TIMES FOR THIS SPECIFIC PROBLEM AND THEY HAVE REPLACED WINDO SEALS AND LINERS AS WELL AS BENDING THE DOORS BUT I AM NOT SATISFIED. THEY SAY I AM AN ISOLATED COMPLAINT BUT IN THE SMALL TOWN I LIVE IN THERE IS ONLY ONE OTHER 2003 ENVOY AND THE OWNER SAYS HER NOISE IS EVEN WORSE. AFTER 2 1/2 YEARS AND 18000 MILES HOW MUCH MORE SHOULD I HAVE TO ENDURE?*AK
WHILE DRIVING DOWN FREEWAY MY CHECK 4WD LIGHT CAME ON. SO NOW IT IS IN THE DEALERSHIP FOR 2 DAYS, WITH ONLY 1600 MILES ON THE VEHICLE... NO 4 WHEEL DRIVE EVER USED YET...IT NOT GOING THE WAY I EXPECTED FOR THE PRICE OF THIS VEHICLE. *AK
WE HAVE HAD SEVERAL PROBLEMS FROM THE REAR WINDOWS IN THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. THE REGULATORS HAVE BROKEN ALLOWING THE WINDOW TO FALL DOWN INTO THE DOOR. THIS USUALLY HAPPENS A BAD TIME SUCH AS IN A STORM. THE DEALER HAS REPLACED THE REGULATOR. THE BRAKE LIGHT HAS BEEN REPLACED SEVERAL TIMES FOR FAILURE TO WORK PROPERLY. THE DEALER HAS REPLACED THE CIRCUIT BOARD TWICE. THE FOUR WHEEL DRIVE SWITCH WOULD SHUT OFF AFTER YOU TRIED TO PUT IT BACK INTO 2-WHEEL DRIVE. THE DEALER REPLACED A FAULTY SWITCH. SEVERAL TIMES THE ENGINE WOULD STALL AND THE INSTRUMENT PANEL WOULD GO CRAZY. NOW, THE CAR IS SITTING IN MY YARD AND WILL NOT START. WHEN YOU TURN THE IGNITION, THE INSTRUMENT PANEL SHOWS THAT THERE IS 40 POUNDS OF OIL PRESSURE AND THE MPH IS 90 AND THE CAR IS NOT EVEN RUNNING. THE DIC SAYS THAT THE BRAKE SYSTEM NEEDS SERVICING. *AK
ENGINE STALLING WITH VEHICLE IN MOTION OR WHEN STOPPED. 5 STALLS OCCURRED WITHIN PAST 1000 MILES. SOMETIMES VEHICLE, CHUGS/SKIPS JUST BEFORE STALLING. VEHICLE HAS BEEN SERVICED 3 TIMES FOR THIS PROBLEM SINCE OCTOBER 27TH AND STILL NOT CORRECTED AS OF THIS WRITING. USUAL STALL SPEED IS AROUND 20 MPH. ONE TIME WAS DRIVING AT 65 MPH ON INTERSTATE, ALL DASHBOARD WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON VEHICLE HESITATED BUT DID NOT STALL. CRUISE CONTROL ALWAYS STOPS WORKING IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING STALLING INCIDENTS. HAS STALLED UPON STOPPING AT STOP LIGHT/SIGN. VEHICLE HAS HAD MANY ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS SINCE APPROXIMATELY 800 MILES INCLUDING WINDSHIELD WASHER SYSTEM FAILURE (TWICE), ABS LIGHT ILLUMINATING, AIRBAG LIGHT. *LA
COMPRESSOR FOR AUTOMATIC LOAD-LEVELING REAR SUSPENSION CYCLES ON AND OFF INTERMITTENTLY WHILE THE VEHICLE IS OFF. THIS HAPPENS EVEN AFTER THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN TURNED OFF FOR SEVERAL HOURS. IF NOT NOTICED, COMPRESSOR WILL CONTINUE TO CYCLE ON AND OFF AND RUN DOWN THE BATTERY. USUALLY CAN HEAR A "PUFF" OF AIR BEING RELEASED FROM THE SYSTEM RIGHT BEFORE THE COMPRESSOR CYCLES ON. THE COMPRESSOR CAN STAY ON FOR AS LITTLE AS SEVERAL SECONDS OR FOR UP TO A FEW MINUTES. THE CYCLE CAN LAST FOR WHAT SEEMS TO BE AS LITTLE AS 5 MINUTES OR UP TO A FEW DAYS SO THAT THE BATTERY RUNS DOWN IF LEFT AT AN AIRPORT WHILE ON VACATION, FOR EXAMPLE. THE ONLY WAY TO "BREAK" THE CYCLE IS TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE OR TURN THE CAR ON AND THEN TURN IT OFF AFTER SEVERAL SECONDS. TURNING THE CAR ON AND OFF DOESN'T ALWAYS WORK. BUT, WHEN OPERATING THE VEHICLE, THE COMPRESSOR SEEMS TO WORK NORMALLY. THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN HAPPENING FOR MONTHS, I HAVE 5,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE WHICH WAS PURCHASED 2/2003. IT HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP FOR THIS PROBLEM 3 TIMES. I TOOK IT IN FOR SERVICE AT FARRISH GMC / PONTIAC YESTERDAY (3RD TIME) AND IT IS STILL THERE TODAY. AS OF YET, THEY HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO FIX THIS PROBLEM BECAUSE NO TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN EXISTS TO GUIDE THEM. THE DEALERSHIP HAS NOT CONDUCTED A VISUAL INSPECTION OF THE SYSTEM OR ITS COMPONENTS TO LOOK FOR LEAKS OR BROKEN PARTS. THEY'VE ONLY DONE A COMPUTER DIAGNOSTIC, WHICH FOUND NOTHING WRONG. HOWEVER, SERVICE CONSULTANTS AT THE DEALERSHIP HAVE WITNESSED THE EVENT HAPPENING AND THE COMPRESSOR TURNING ON AND OFF...WHILE THE VEHICLE IS OFF. AGAIN, I NEED TO STRESS THAT THE PROBLEM IS HAPPENING WHEN THE VEHICLE IS TURNED OFF AND NOT IN USE. THE COMPRESSOR SHOULD NOT EVEN BE ABLE TO TURN ITSELF ON IF THE CAR IS TURNED OFF. FIRST TIME I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE IN FOR SERVICE WAS 7/12/2003, THE SECOND TIME ON 8/29/2003 AND THEN AGAIN FOR A THIRD TIME ON 10/20/2003. *LA
I HAD LOST 3 CENTER PIECES THAT COVERS THE LUDE BOLTS. I SPOKE THE COMPANY ABOUT THE ABOVE AND THEY STATED THEY HADN'T HAD ANY ONE TO COMPLAIN. BUT AFTER GREAT EFFORT IT WAS RESOLVED WITH ME BEING REIMBURSED WITH THE 1 I HAD PURCHASED AND THEY REPLACED THE OTHER 2. I HAD SPOKEN WITH 2 OF MY CO-WORKERS AND THEY HAD A SIMILAR COMPLAINT, BUT DID NOT PURSUE IT. NOW MY CRUISE CONTROL HAS GONE OUT AND MAY VECHILE ONLY HAVE 16,000 MILES ON IT AND I HAVEN'T USE D IT. THE WAY I FOUND OUT IT WAS NOT WORKING WAS WE WERE TAKING A TRIP AND THE CRUISE WOULD NOT WORK. I NOW HAVE TO TAKE IT IN FOR REPAIR AND I AM DREADING IT WILL BE A ORDEAL. SINCE I HAVE TO TAKE IT IN TO THE CHEVROLET PLACE INSTEAD OF THE DEALERSHIP I PURCHASED IT FROM BECAUSE OF THE POOR SERVICE.*AK
THIS WAS ORIGINALLY SUBMITTED ON 10/14/2003, BUT BECAUSE I DON'T SEE IT ON THE NHTSA WEB SITE, I AM RESUBMITTING: THE LIFTGATE WINDOW OF 2003 GMC ENVOY XL EXPLODED/SHATTERED WHEN I TRIED TO OPEN IT BEYOND THE FIRST FEW INCHES. A SHOWER OF GLASS RESULTED IN A SEVERE FACIAL LACERATION TO MY 4-YEAR OLD DAUGHTER. THERE IS NO WARNING WHATSOEVER ON THE WINDOW OR IN THE VEHICLE OPERATING GUIDE REGARDING SUCH A DANGER. THIS DEFECT IS A MAJOR DANGER THAT COULD HAVE RESULTED IN EVEN GREATER PHYSICAL INJURY AND HAS LEFT A SCAR ON MY DAUGHTER'S FACE. *LA
I OWN A GMC ENVOY XL. THE TRANSMISSION WILL NOT HOLD THE CAR ON AN INCLINE. IN DRIVE, THE CAR WILL ACCELERATE BACKWARDS DOWN A HILL. *LA
OCTOBER-03 TO MARCH-04, BETWEEN 800 AND 3000 MILEAGE: SEVERAL DUAL AUTOMATIC CLIMATE CONTROL SYSTEM PROBLEMS. TEMPERATURE WOULD RUN BERSERK (VERY HOT IN COLD WEATHER WHEN SET AT 55F, NO AC IN HOT WEATHER). THE RADIO WOULD LOOSE ITS PRESET STATIONS. DEALER COULD NOT IDENTIFY PROBLEM (NO CODE WAS SET) AND TOLD ME TO RETURN WHEN CONDITION REPEATS WITHOUT TURNING OFF THE ENGINE. HE FINALLY FOUND A CODE INDICATION COMMUNICATION INTERRUPTION AND LOW BATTERY VOLTAGE. NO ACTION WAS TAKEN. THE PROBLEM RESURFACED TEMPORARILY AGAIN IN SUMMER OF 2005. *NM
RIGHT REAR DOOR OPENED WITHOUT WARNING AT THE GAS STATION WHILE PULLING OUT, CAUSING CONSUMER'S DAUGHTER TO FALL OUT OF THE TRUCK AND BREAKING HER RIGHT HAND. SHE WAS TRANSPORTED TO THE HOSPITAL THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED. *AK
WHILE DRIVING ABOUT 65 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY ENGINE CHECK LIGHT APPEARED ON THE DASHBOARD. *AK
MY 2003 GMC ENVOY HAS A DEFECTIVE FUEL TANK. ACCORDING TO THE DEALER THE TANK HAS A SMALL CRACK IN THE VAPOR RECOVERY LINE. DEALER AND GMC CLAIMS THAT IT IS NOT A HAZZARD BUT THERE IS A VERY STRONG GASOLINE ODER WHEN THE VEHICLE IS STARTED OR STOPED AND IT CONTINUES FOR SOME TIME UNTIL THE ENGINE IS WARM. DEALER CLAIMS THE TANK IS BEING REDESIGNED GMC WILL NOT CONFIRM OR DENY. WHAT I KNOW IS THE PART HAS AN EXPECTED BUT NOT DEFINET 4 TO 6 WEEK DELIVERY TIME.
THE DRIVER'S SIDE SEAT-BELT WOULD LOCK-UP IN THE FULLY RETRACTED POSITION. DRIVER IS UNABLE TO PULL THE SEAT-BELT FROM THE "LOCKED" POSITION. MUST WAIT A FEW SECONDS/MINUTES BEFORE SEAT-BELT WILL RELEASE ITSELF SO THAT THE DRIVER CAN PUT IT ON. THE DEALERSHIP I PURCHASED IT AT (WAGNER-BUICK GMC IN BELLEVILLE, IL) REPLACED THE SEAT-BELT AT 5XXX MILES AND NOW THEY'VE PUT IN A SECOND ONE AT 82XX MILES TODAY (8/11/03). *NLM
WHILE PARKED IN MY GARAGE W/ ENGINE OFF. I CAME AROUND THE CORNER & HEARD WATER RUNNING. MY GMC 2003 ENVOY'S FRONT WINDSHIELD WIPERS WERE SPRAYING SPONTANEOUSLY & WIPERS WERE RUNNING. ENGINE WAS MAKING A LOUD SCREECHING NOISE. BACKED VEHICLE OUT OF GARGAGE & PULLED OUT FUSE. SPRAY STOPPED, BUT WIPERS STILL PROCEEDED TO GO. ENGINE COULD HAVE CAUGHT ON FIRE! DEALER REPLACED WIPER MOTOR STATING IT HAD BEEN FLOODED W/ WATER. PREVIOUSLY TO THIS EVENT, THE FRONT WIPERS WOULD GO OFF & ON EVEN WHILE SWITCH WAS IN THE OFF POSITION. ALSO, BACK WIPERS STOPPED WORKING & HAD BACK WIPER MOTOR REPLACED TOO.*AK
UPON STARTING THE VEHICLE AND TAKING OFF THE GEAR SHIFTED, AND THEN DROPPED DOWN TO THE CORRECT GEAR IT SHOULD HAVE BE IN. TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED WITHIN THE FIRST SIX MONTHS. ALSO, STARTER MADE A CLICKING NOISE SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE STARTING. THEN THE VEHICLE SHUT DOWN. *AK
ALSO EVERY TIME I FILL MY GAS TANK, GAS COMES BACK UP AND SPILLS OUT, IT DOES NOT MATTER IF I LEAVE THE NOZZLE IN, TAKE IT OUT IMMEDIATELY, AND I AM NEVER TOPPING THE TANK OFF. WHEN I HAD IT BACK TO THE DEALER THEY SAID THEY WERE UNAWARE OF ANY PROBLEMS. *LA
THE VEHICLE WAS REAR-ENDED AT ABOUT 45 MPH. THE BACK-END NOW FISHTAILS, AND THERE'S TREMENDOUS BODY-ROLL WITH THE SLIGHTEST TURN OF THE STEERING WHEEL. BODY WORK WAS COMPLETED TO REPAIR THE BECK-END, BUT NO WORK HAS BEEN DONE TO THE SUSPENSION. THREE SEPARATE TRIPS TO THE DEALER'S SERVICE DEPARTMENT CLAIM THAT THE EXCESSIVE BODY ROLL IS A CHARCTERISTIC OF THE CAR AND THAT THERE IS NO WORK TO BE PERFORMED. THE VEHICLE IS UNSTABLE AT BEST, AND DANGEROUS WHILE CHANGING LANES AT FREEWAY SPEEDS.*AK
I PURCHASED MY 2003 ENVOY IN MAY 2003. SOON AFTERWARDS I STARTED GETTING A FEEDBACK THROUGH THE GAS PEDIAL. IT WAS KIND OF LIKE A VIBRATIPON. THEY SAID IT WAS THE DRIVE SHAFT SO THEY REPLACED IT. THAT DIDN'T HELP. EACH TIME I TAKE IT IN THEY SAY IT SOMETHING DIFFERENT, BUT THE PROBLEM STILL HAS NOT BEEN RESOLVED. MY HUSBAND AND I PURCHASED A 2030 ENVOY SLT IN MAY 2003. THE 4 WHEEL SERVICE LIGHT HAS COME ON TWICE. THE FIRST TIME, IT WAS REPAIRED. THE 2ND TIME IT CAME ON, WE WERE TOLD WE HAVE NO 4 WHEEL DRIVE. WE HAVE BEEN IN CONTACT WITH GMC CUSTOMER SERVICE DEPT (1-866-996-9463, OUR REPRESENTATIVE IS BRANDY JOHNSON AND OUR REF $ IS 1-127444813). THE RESOLUTION; WE NEED TO WAIT UNTIL THE SERVICE 4 WHEEL DRIVE LIGHT COMES ON AGAIN SO WE CAN TAKE IT INTO THE DEALER (IF THEY ARE OPEN) SO A "CODE" CAN BE READ. I FEEL WITH WINTER COMING, THIS ISSUE HAS NOW TURNED INTO A SAFETY ISSUE AS WE WILL USE THIS VEHICLE DAILY TO TAKE OUR SON TO DAYCARE AND GO TO WORK. I WOULD APPRECIATE ANY INPUT YOU COULD ASSIST ME WITH AS I STRONGLY FEEL THIS VEHICLE SHOULD BE REPLACED.
THERE ARE VARIOUS ONGOING PROBLEMS WITH THE 2003 GMC ENVOY SLT XL.*MR FUEL FLOWS OUT OF THE TANK WHEN PUMPING. THE DEALER HAD TOLD THE CONSUMER TO PUMP SLOWLY, THEY REPLACED THE EMISSION CANISTER VENT SOLENOIDS, REPLACED THE TANK NECK/HOSE AND REPLACED THE LEFT TANK. ALTHOUGH THESE COMPONENTS HAVE BEEN REPLACED THE PROBLEM STILL EXIST. THE SERVICE MANAGER CAME ACROSS A SERVICE BULLETIN THAT INDICATED THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE ENVOY LIKE THE CONSUMER EXPERIENCED. HE STATED HE WOULD ORDER THE FILLER UPPER PIPE ASSEMBLY AND LOWER HOSE ASSEMBLY. IF THIS REPAIR DOES NOT ALLEVIATE THE PROBLEM THE CONSUMER REQUEST A REFUND OR A REPLACEMENT VEHICLE. *NM

WIND NOISE COMING FROM AROUND THE DRIVERS DOOR,HAS BEEN INTO THE SERVICE SHOP ON 2 OCCASIONS AND THIS IS AS GOOD AS IT GETS ACCORDING TO THE DEALER,I AM NOT SATISFIED WITH THE RESULTS A NEW VEHICLE SHOULD NOT HAVE NOISE LIKE THIS PLEASE INVESTIGATE. WHILE TOWING A 18 FOOT TRAILER AT 60 MPH DRIVER HAD A HARD TIME CONTROLLING THE VEHICLE WHEN OTHER VEHICLES WERE PASSING ON THE HIGHWAY. *AK
WHEN MY VEHICLE HAD LESS THAN 200 MILES ON IT THE CHECK FOUR WHEEL DRIVE LIGHT CAME ON. WHE HAD ONLY HAD THE CAR FOR LESS THAN A WEEK. I ASKED THE DEALER AND THEY SAID THAT AS LONG AS IT WAS RUNNING FINE THE WOULD PUT IT ON THE COMPUTER AT MY 3,000 MILE CHECKUP. A FEW WEEKS LATER I STARTED HEARING A RUBBING NOISE. I BROUGHT IT IN AND THEY TOOK IT FOR A TEST DRIVE. THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY HAD SWICHED IT FROM 2 WD TO 4WD HIGH AND THE NOISE WAS GONE. IT WAS NOT. THE NEXT DAY I SWITCHED IT INTO AWD AND THERE WAS NO NOISE. THAT AFTERNOON THE FRONT WHEELS LOCKED UP ON ME WHEN I WAS GOING ABOUT 30 MPH. WE HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP. THEY TOLD US THAT THE FRONT DIFFERENTAL WAS LITTERALY FALLING APART AND HAVE NOW SAID THEY ARE GOING TO REPLACE THE TRANSFER CASE. THE MILAGE ON OUR ENVOY IS 1263. NEEDLESS TO SAY, I AM NOT HAPPY. I PURCHASED A NEW VEHICLE SO I WOULD NOT HAVE PROBLEMS. I HAVE ONLY HAD IT FOR A MONTH. *AK
ONE WEEK AGO I PURCHASED A 2003 ENVOY SLE 4WD, IT HAS 200 MILES ON IT CURRENTLY AND NOTICED UPON DELIVERY THAT A MOLDING AROUND THE DRIVERS SIDE DOOR IS CROOKED. AND 2 DAYS AGO I NOTICED A LARGE PUDDLE OF FRESH OIL UNDER MY VEHICLE, AND MY OIL LIGHT WENT ON THIS MORNING. I HAVEN'T EVEN HAD THIS VEHICLE FOR ONE WEEK AND I HAVE TO TAKE IT IN FOR REPAIRS. THIS DOES NOT MAKE ME FEEL OVERLY COMFORTABLE ABOUT MY PURCHASE. *AK
I HAVE A 2003 GMC ENVOY XL WITH LESS THAN 8,000 MILES ON IT. ON MAY 26, 2003 WHILE DRIVING IN THE RAIN, THE FRONT WIPERS QUIT. IN A MATTER OF SECONDS, I COULD SEE NOTHING. NEEDLESS TO SAY, IT WAS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. *TT

ON A 2003 GMC ENVOY XL (VEHICLE MILEAGE APPROX. 8900 MILES), THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS WERE ON WHEN THE SWITCH WAS IN THE OFF POSITION. THE DEALER REPLACED THE WIPER MOTOR. THIS WAS THE SECOND TIME THIS PROBLEM HAD OCCURRED; THE FIRST WAS IN SEPTEMBER 2002. AT THAT TIME, THE DEALER ALSO REPLACED THE WIPER MOTOR.
CONSUMER COMPLAINED ABOUT A HORN PROBLEM. THE HORN WORKED INTERMITTENTLY. DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM 3 TIMES, BUT WAS ABLE TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM ON THE FOURTH TIME. *AK
WHILE DRIVING DRIVER CANNOT ADJUST THE TWO SIDE MIRRORS. *AK CONSUMER LEARNED THE SIDE MIRRORS COULDN'T BE ADJUSTED BY MANUAL MOVEMENT NOR POWER. HE ASSUMED THIS WAS A PART OF THE VEHICLE. HE FELT THIS WAS A SAFETY ISSUE-DRIVING AND ADJUSTING THE MIRRORS WITH HIS HANDS. *PH *NLM
