MY FRONT DIFFERENTIAL STARTED TO SEIZE UP WHILE DRIVING ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY. MY CAR WOULD MADE A GRUNTING NOISE AND SLOWED TO ALMOST A COMPLETE STOP, GOOD THING IT WAS EARLY MORNING AND THE TRAFFIC WAS NOT HEAVY. A CAR OR TRUCK COULD OF EASILY RAN INTO MY BUMPER CAUSING ME SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH. I CALLED THE REPAIR PLACE RIGHT AWAY AND THEY GOT ME IN IMMEDIATELY. THE DIAGNOSIS WAS THE FRONT DIFFERENTIAL NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. *TR
THE GAS TANK ON MY 2003 GMC ENVOY XLT (80K MILES) IS LEAKING, ESPECIALLY WHEN TANK IS FULL. THERE WAS A SMALL PUDDLE ON THE DRIVEWAY. THE PROBLEM ACTUALLY STARTED BACK AROUND 50K MILES WITH ENGINE LIGHT ON. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO DEALER AND MECHANICS BEFORE, BUT IT WAS THOUGHT TO BE SOME SORT OF FUEL CAP PROBLEM OR OVER SENSITIVE SENSORS. HOWEVER, TODAY, BECAUSE MY GAS TANK WAS FULL, THE DEALER FOUND THAT THERE ARE LEAKS CAUSED BY A CRACK TANK AND FUEL TANK NECK. THE FUEL LEAK AND VAPOR ARE SO STRONG THAT I FEARED A SMALL SPARK CAN SET THE WHOLE VEHICLE ON FIRE LIKE A ROMAN CANDLE. CAR WAS USED FOR EVERYDAY COMMUTE ONLY. *TR
ACCIDENT ON 2/17/2009 FRONT CRASH TO OTHER VEHICLE AND AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY HOOD DAMAGE, WINDSHIELD DAMAGE, ALL FRONT DAMAGE, DOORS COULD NOT OPEN RADIATOR DAMAGE, ENGINE DAMAGE. *TR
I OWN A 2003 GMC ENVOY. TWO YEARS AGO THE SPEEDOMETER STARTED STICKING. IT NOW DOES NOT KEEP THE SPEED AT ALL. MY RPM (WHEN IN PARK) WILL REV UP TO 2 OR 3RPM, MY GAS GAUGE HAS NOW STARTED TO SOMETIMES NOT SHOW I HAVE ANY GAS, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON ALMOST ALL THE TIME, MY AIR CONDITIONER WILL BLOW OUT THE BACK VENT AND BARELY COME OUT OF THE FRONT VENT WHEN I HAVE IT UP FULL BLAST. AND TO TOP IT OFF MY BACK BRAKE LIGHTS CONSTANTLY BURN OUT.. I HAVE READ NUMEROUS FORUMS WHERE MANY PEOPLE ARE HAVING SOME OF THESE SAME ISSUES BUT NO RECALL. I DON'T UNDERSTAND THAT AT ALL. I DEFINITELY THINK THESE BAD INSTRUMENT PANELS CALL FOR A RECALL!! THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE. I EVENTUALLY HAD TO CUT A HOLE IN THE PLASTIC OVER THE SPEEDOMETER AND BEFORE IT QUIT COMPLETELY WORKING WHEN WE WOULD GO ON VACATION, WE WOULD HAVE TO PULL OVER ON BUSY HIGHWAYS EVERY 20 MINUTES OR SO TO SET THE SPEEDOMETER BACK TO ZERO SO IT WOULDN'T SHOW ME GOING 120MPH. OF COURSE I CAN'T EVEN DO THAT NOW. I'M JUST AMAZED I HAVEN'T ENDED UP WITH A TICKET FOR MY SPEED OR MY RUNNING OR BRAKE LIGHTS. WE HAVE TAKEN THE ENVOY IN TO THE SHOP AND THEY TOLD US WE WOULD HAVE TO TAKE THE CAR IN TO A GM DEALER. I HAVE TO TAKE IT BACK IN THIS WEEK TO HAVE AIR WORKED ON AND WHO KNOWS HOW MUCH THAT WILL COST. I DON'T BELIEVE I SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE TO PAY OVER $500 FOR PARTS AND LABOR IN A CAR THAT IS CLEARLY DEFECTIVE AND SHOULD BE RECALLED. PLEASE HELP!! *TR
WHEN DRIVING MY 2003 ENVOY IT SMELLED STRONGLY OF GAS AND UPON PARKING, IT WAS LEAKING GAS ALL OVER THE GROUND, I HAD IT TOWED AND THE SENDING UNIT WAS BAD, IF IT HAD SPARKED OR THERE HAD BEEN AN AEC, IT COULD HAVE CAUGHT FIRE AND THE COST IS $ 1000.00 AND I HAVE TO PAY OUT OF POCKET. THE FIRST EXTENDED SERVICE CORPORATION WILL NOT COVER IT, THE WARRANTY WAS FALSELY OFFERED TO ME BY THE SALES REP AT WAESTCOTT BUICK BURLINGTON NC AND WAS COSTLY AND WORTHLESS. THE ENVOY WAS A LEASE OUT OF PA, WHICH ALSO WAS NOT DISCLOSED TO US. THIS HAS BEEN A HUGE COST AND DISAPPOINTMENT. *TR
HAD GAS POURING FROM 2003 GMC ENVOY. THE SENDING RETURN PART IS BAD, THE GMC DEALER SAID PART IS OVER $400 AND HAS TO BE ORDERED FROM CALIFORNIA, MY WARRANTY DOES NOT COVER IT AND FROM WHAT I HAVE READ ON HERE, IT HAS BEEN QUITE A FEW ENVOYS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. MY ENVOY WAS ORIGINALLY A LEASE AND CAME FROM PA WHICH WE WERE NOT TOLD. WE WERE TOLD THE WARRANTY WE PURCHASED COVERED BUMPER TO BUMPER BUT DOES NOT, THE PART WILL BE 5 DAYS COMING AND MEANTIME, I HAVE NO CAR TO DRIVE UNTIL ?I GET IT BACK. I THINK SINCE THE GAS LEAKS SO MUCH, AND COULD HAVE CAUSED A FIRE OR AND AN EXPLOSION SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE. THANK YOU FOR ANY INFORMATION YOU MAY BE ABLE TO OFFER. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 GMC ENVOY. WHEN THE CONTACT TURNED THE IGNITION ON, THE DRIVER AND FRONT PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED WITHOUT WARNING. THERE WAS NO INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WILL BE TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR A DIAGNOSIS. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 78,000. UPDATED 3/5/09 *CN THERE WAS AN INTERNAL FAILURE OF THE AIR BAG MODULE. UPDATED 03/10/09. *JB
1/17/09 GMC ENVOY 2003 I MADE A SHARP U-TURN IN A SNOWY YARD WHILE VEHICLE WAS IN TRACTION ASSIST. THEN I PULLED INTO THE DRIVEWAY AND PARKED, TURNED OFF THE VEHICLE AND WENT IN THE HOUSE. I WAS IN THERE APPROXIMATELY 30 MINUTES THEN GOT BACK IN THE VEHICLE TO LEAVE AND THE POWER STEERING WAS GONE. EXCESSIVELY STIFF.I PULLED FORWARD GOT OUT, LOOKED AT THE GROUND AND THERE WAS A PUDDLE OF BLUISH LIQUID LOCATED NEAR WHERE THE LEFT FRONT SIDE OF THE VEHICLE WAS SITTING. *TR
NOTICED PERIODIC INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FAILURE/ACCURACY PROBLEMS. SPEEDOMETER WILL SOMETIMES WORK OR WORK ERRATICALLY SO I HAVE NO IDEA HOW FAST I AM GOING. I RESEARCHED ON THE WEB AND FOUND THIS IS VERY TYPICAL FOR THIS MODEL. I CALLED MY DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY WILL ONLY REPAIR (NO COST) THE GMC PICKUPS AND NOT MY SUV MODEL EVEN THOUGH THEY HAVE SAME PROBLEM WITH THE SAME PART. THIS PRESENTS A VERY DANGEROUS CONDITION REGARDLESS OF WHAT VEHICLE THIS IS IN. WINTER DRIVING CONDITIONS IN MN REQUIRE DILIGENCE IN SPEED AND BRAKING, THIS IS A HUGE AND DANGEROUS PROBLEM FOR GMC AND THEY ARE JUST IGNORING CERTAIN MODELS FOR WARRANTY REPAIR AND FORCING THE CONSUMER TO SPEND $500.00 (EST.) TO FIX THERE PROBLEM! *TR
SPEEDOMETER AND DASHBOARD FAILURE ON 2003 GMC ENVOY OCCURRING SPONTANEOUSLY AT APPROXIMATELY 50,000 MILES. GM DEALER WOULD REPLACE FOR $350 PLUS LABOR LAST JANUARY WHEN VEHICLE HAD LESS THAN 70,000.00. UNABLE TO AFFORD THIS COST AFTER A GENERAL SERVICE, HOWEVER THE COMPLAINT IS FILED WITH GM DEALERSHIP IN JAN 2009. CAR IS NOW OVER 70,000.MILES. I AM REALIZING THAT THIS IS NOT AN ISOLATED SITUATION AND THERE HAVE BEEN MANY COMPLAINTS. IS THERE A COMMITMENT FROM GM THAT THEY WILL REPAIR THIS ISSUE FOR CARS WITH MILEAGE UNDER 70,000.00? I BELIEVE THIS ISSUE SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED FOR A RE-CALL REGARDLESS OF MILEAGE. PLEASE DIRECT ME WITH THE APPROPRIATE ACTION MEASURES SO THAT I MAY REMEDY THIS SITUATION PROMPTLY. *TR
VEHICLE HAVING THE "SERVICE ENGINE SOON" LIGHT ON AND OFF FOR LIKE A COUPLE OF WEEKS AND THEN IT CAME LIGHT ON STEADY FOR A WHILE AND SMELL GAS AROUND IT SOMETIMES UNTIL I BROUGHT IT FOR SERVICE AT THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE. AFTER SOME DIAGNOSTIC THEY FOUND TROUBLE CODE P0442 EVAPORATIVE LEAK DETECTED. THEY PERFORMED EVAP LEAK WITH SMOKE DETECTOR BUT DID NOT FIND ANY LEAK. SERVICE TECH FOUND A LEAK AROUND A METAL SEAL AT THE UPPER PART OF THE FUEL TANK. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 GMC ENVOY. THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE SPEEDOMETER IN HIS VEHICLE WOULD REGISTER HIGHER SPEEDS THAN WHAT WAS ACTUALLY BEING DRIVEN. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL ACTIVATED, THE SPEEDOMETER WENT ALL THE WAY PAST THE HIGHEST SPEED INDICATOR AFTER DRIVING FOR 30 MINUTES. WHEN THE CONTACT PARKED THE VEHICLE, THE SPEEDOMETER DISPLAYED 70 MPH. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER HAVE NOT BEEN NOTIFIED. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 81,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 79,000.
MOTORS THAT RUN THE GUAGES IN MY 2003 GMC ENVOY HAVE FAILED. THESE CONTROL THE FUEL, AMP, TEMP GUAGES. THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE FOR THE MOTORS AND OTHER GUAGE CLUSTERS THAT USE THEM IN OTHER GM VEHICLES ARE CURRENTLY RECALLED FOR THE SAME ISSUE. I HAVE NOT CORRECTED THE ISSUE AND STILL HAVE THE DEFECTIVE PARTS. *TR
I OWN A 2003 GMC ENVOY AND THE SPEEDOMETER ACTS ERRATICALLY, AND IS NEVER CORRECT. I'VE RESEARCHED IT AND THERE IS NOT A RECALL ON IT, AND FROM OTHER INTERNET USERS MESSAGES ON SITES, THERE ARE A LOT OF GM VEHICLES THAT ARE HAVING THIS PROBLEM!! I DON'T PERSONALLY HAVE THE MONEY TO GET IT FIXED, THAT AND I DON'T THINK IT SHOULD BE MY PROBLEM TO HAVE TO PAY FOR IT EITHER, GM PUT A BAD PART IN THE VEHICLES SO I THINK THEY SHOULD HAVE TO RECALL WHATEVER IS WRONG WITH THE SPEEDOMETER. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 GMC ENVOY. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH ON NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS, THE CONTACT SMELLED A STRONG ODOR OF FUEL COMING FROM OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL AND REMAINED LIT UNTIL THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING AND THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE FUEL TANK NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 90,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 GMC ENVOY XL. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN ADDING GASOLINE TO THE VEHICLE, THE FUEL TANK BEGAN TO LEAK. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE WAS UNABLE TO ADD FUEL TO ITS CAPACITY DUE TO THE LEAK. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN INSPECTED BY THE DEALER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 92,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 105,000.
THE TACHOMETER STARTED ACTING ERRATICALLY SHOWING SURGES IN THE ENGINE RPM. THIS PROBLEM CAME AND WENT AND NOW, FEBRUARY 2009, THE SPEEDOMETER IS DOING THE SAME THING. I WAS DOING 90 MPH WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS TURNED OFF. I SEE THIS IS A PROBLEM ON GM VEHICLES AND THEY ARE NOT ADDRESSING IT. THEY ARE LEAVING IT TO THE OWNER TO PAY A DEALER $600 OR MORE FOR REPAIRS. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SPEEDOMETER HAD NOT WORKED SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED, AND RECENTLY ALL OF THE GAUGES ON THE INSTRUMENTAL PANEL FAILED TO FUNCTION. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED AND THE VEHICLE WAS OVER 70,000 MILES; HOWEVER, THE MANUFACTURER HAD OFFERED TO ASSIST WITH THE REPAIRS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 66,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 120,000.
MY SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THEN I STARTED DETECTING A ODOR OF GASOLINE. THE ORDER GREW STRONGER AND THEN I GOT THE "SPECIAL NOTICE", BUT NOT A RECALL ABOUT THE CORROSION IN THE FUEL TANK. WHEN I TOOK THE CAR INTO THE DEALER, I WAS TOLD THAT THIS WAS NOT THE PROBLEM AND THAT IT WAS A CRACK AT THE FILLER PIPE ON THE GAS TANK AND THAT THIS WAS NOT COVERED. I ASKED WHAT COULD CAUSE THIS AND THEY COULD NOT GIVE ME AN ANSWER. MY CAR ONLY HAS 49,000 MILES AND IS IN EXCELLENT SHAPE, EXCEPT FOR ALL THE RECALL ITEMS. I BELIEVE THAT GMC SHOULD FIX THIS PROBLEM, NOT ONLY IT IS COSTLY TO FIX, BUT IT IS VERY DANGEROUS TO BE DRIVING LIKE THIS. AND READING THE COMPLAINTS, IT SOUNDS LIKE SEVERAL OTHERS HAVE THE SAME ISSUE. *TR
ON 6/3/2008, I PURCHASED 2 MICHELIN LTX M/S 245/65/17 TIRES FOR MY 2003 GMC ENVOY FROM, MILLENNIUM AUTOBODY & SERVICE INC., 1782 MAIN ST., BROCKTON, MA 02304. ON 10/22/2008 (AFTER ONLY 7969 MILES) THE TIRE BLEW OUT ON THE WAY TO FL- HAD IT BEEN REPLACED IN NY. THE TIRE WAS SHREDDED. ON 11/10/2008 (AFTER ONLY 9557 MILES ) THE 2ND TIRE WENT FLAT- I WAS ABLE TO PULL THE SUV OVER QUICKLY RECOGNIZING THE SAME SOUNDS AND VIBRATIONS FROM 1ST BLOW OUT. THIS TIRE WAS NOT SHREDDED. THERE WAS NO PUNCTURES/ CUTS TO THE TIRE. THE CLERK AT THE TIRE KINGDOM IN FL STATED THAT IT WAS A FAULTY TIRE VALVE STEM THAT HAD CAUSED THE TIRE TO FAIL. I CALLED HOME, AND MY FAMILY ADVISED ME THAT THERE HAD BEEN REPORTS OF BAD VALVE STEMS ON TRUCKS AND SUV'S. I CONTACTED THE LOCATION WHERE I PURCHASED THE TIRES TO REPORT THE TWO TIRES FAILING- THEY REQUESTED THAT I BRING THE TIRES BACK WHEN I CAME BACK TO MA. I DID NOT HAVE THE 1ST TIRE- BUT I DID GET AND STILL HAVE THE 2ND TIRE. MILLENNIUM AUTOBODY SAID THEY WERE GOING TO TALK TO TIRE REP AND GET BACK TO ME- BUT IT HAS BEEN SEVERAL WEEKS NOW AND STILL NO WORD. I WAS VERY FORTUNATE THAT NO ONE WAS INJURED DURING THESE 2 EVENTS- I FEAR THAT THERE ARE STILL FAULTY TIRE VALVES OUT THERE- THAT OTHER CONSUMERS MAY NOT BE AWARE OF THEM. *TR
I HAVE A 2003 GMC ENVOY, THAT IS RUSTING BADLY. RECENTLY THIS CAUSED THE TRANSMISSION COOLER TO FAIL. ALSO THE REAR BRAKE SHOE BACKING PLATES, THE SPARE TIRE CARRIER, THE TAIL GATE, ALONG WITH OTHER PARTS. GMC HAS RECOGNIZED THE FUEL FILLER NECK CORROSION, BUT NOT THE ENTIRE VEHICLE. *TR
MY WIFE WAS IN THE PROCESS OF CLOSING THE REAR HATCH ON OUR 2003 ENVOY XL (80,000 MILES) AFTER REMOVING SOME ARTICLES FROM THE BACK. SHE HAD MOVED THE DOOR ABOUT 1-2 INCHES DOWNWARD USING THE MOLDED HANDLE ON THE BOTTOM OF THE LIFT GATE TO CLOSE THE DOOR WHEN THE REAR GLASS SHATTERED OVER HER HEAD. LUCKILY SHE WAS NOT INJURED BUT WAS COVERED IN SAFETY GLASS. THE GLASS WAS NOT DAMAGED YESTERDAY WHEN I DROVE THE VEHICLE AND UNLOADED SUITCASES FROM THE REAR. AMBIENT TEMPERATURE WAS ABOUT 70 DEGREES. I DID NOTICE THAT THE REAR BRAKE LIGHT ASSEMBLY IS NOW ANGLED UPWARDS IN THE 'GATE RAISED' POSITION, EVEN AFTER CLOSING THE HATCH. ALSO NOTICED THE TOP, RIGHT SIDE RUBBER GROMMET ON THE STAMPED BRACKET ATTACHING THE GLASS IS VERY WORN, ALLOWING SIGNIFICANT MOVEMENT. I PLAN ON TAKING THE VEHICLE TO A DEALER TO DETERMINE ROOT CAUSE IF POSSIBLE AND WILL HAVE THE GLASS AND ALL TOUCH POINTS REPLACED IF POSSIBLE. I HAVE NO CONFIDENCE THAT THIS WILL NOT HAPPEN AGAIN IF THERE IS A DESIGN INTERFERENCE ISSUE WITH THE GLASS AND THE SURROUNDING COMPONENTS THAT HAPPENS OVER TIME. THERE APPEAR TO BE NUMEROUS CASES ON THE AUTOMOTIVE FORUMS WEBSITE REGARDING ENVOY XL REAR HATCH GLASS SHATTERING FOR NO APPARENT REASON (SOME MULTIPLE OCCURRENCES). I AM SURPRISED MORE COMPLAINTS HAVE NOT BEEN REGISTERED TO NHTSA OFFICIALLY (ONLY FOUND ONE-10081011). IT IS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE SOMEONE IS SERIOUSLY HURT. I HAVE BEEN A BRAKE ENGINEER FOR 10+ YEARS AND TAKE SAFETY VERY SERIOUSLY. *TR
GMC ENVOY 2003 SPEEDOMETER IS ERRATIC AND DOES NOT FUNCTION AT ALL ON OCCASION. *TR
2003 GMC ENVOY SLE WITH 42,000 MILES. CHECK 4 WDRIVE LIGHT CAME ON THEN WENT BACK OFF. DEALER STATED THAT THE TCCM HAD TO BE REPROGRAMMED DUE TO A BULLETIN. IT COST ME OUT OF POCKET NO WARRANTIES COVER THIS. ALSO THE FAN CLUTCHES WENT OUT BUT WAS REPLACED BY EXTENDED WARRANTIES. I'M ALSO TOLD BY DEALER THAT THE STEERING LINKS ARE WORN & SHOULD BE REPLACED. THIS TOO IS AT MY COST. I HAVE ONLY HAD THIS CAR 1 YEAR. THESE HAPPENED WITH JUST A FEW WEEKS OF EACH OTHER. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 GMC ENVOY. AFTER THE CONTACT PLACED FUEL IN HIS VEHICLE, HE CONTINUED TO SMELL AN ODOR OF GASOLINE. HE CRAWLED UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED FUEL LEAKING ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE GAS TANK. THE GAS TANK WELD WAS RUSTED AND CRACKED, CAUSING FUEL TO LEAK OUT OF THE TANK. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE FRONT SUSPENSION OF THE VEHICLE WAS BANGING WHENEVER HE DROVE OVER THE SMALLEST BUMP. IN ADDITION, THE FAN CLUTCH WAS MAKING A CLICKING SOUND. THE DEALER INFORMED HIM THAT THE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY AND THE REPAIRS WERE HIS RESPONSIBILITY. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 88,000.

I COULD SMELL A GASOLINE ODOR AROUND MY 2003 ENVOY (45,860 MILES). TOOK VEHICLE TO COULTER OF TEMPE (AN AUTHORIZED GM DEALER) AND WAS ADVISED OF A LEAK AT FUEL INLET TO TANK PIPE AREA. WAS TOLD GAS TANK WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. GM HAS HAD A SIMILAR PROBLEM WITH THE 2003 ENVOY XLS AND ISSUED A LETTER DATED JUNE 2007 COVERING THE ENTIRE AMOUNT OF REPLACING THESE FUEL TANKS FOR 10 YEARS OR 150,000 MILES. THIS COVERAGE SHOULD BE EXTENDED TO ALL 2003 ENVOYS AND A POSSIBLE RECALL ISSUED AS THIS LEAK AT THE FUEL FILLER NECK SEAM AT THE TANK IS NOT EASILY IDENTIFIED UNLESS VEHICLE IS HOISTED ON A LIFT. THEY DID OFFER US A DEAL WHERE WE WERE CHARGED A WARRANTY DEDUCTIBLE OF $500, BUT I FEEL THIS REPAIR SHOULD HAVE BEEN COVERED IN ITS ENTIRETY. *TR
8/7/08 FOUND ON YOUR WEB SITE NHTSA ACTION #: PE07014; WHICH STATES GM WILL EXPAND ITS "SPECIAL POLICY" TO ADDRESS THE FUEL TANK INLET CHECK VALVE FRACTURES ON CERTAIN MODEL YEAR GMC ENVOY XL AND THEY WILL PROVIDE FREE REPAIR OF THE FUEL TANK. IT ALSO STATES THAT GM WOULD BE SENDING LETTERS TO OWNERS BEGINNING IN JUNE OF 2007 REGARDING THIS "SPECIAL POLICY". I DID NOT RECEIVE SUCH A LETTER. I CONTACTED GM TODAY AT 866-996-9463 REGARDING THIS "SPECIAL POLICY", AND THIS IS THE ANSWER I RECEIVED. SINCE I WAS NOT GRANTED SUCH A LETTER, AND GM DID NOT INCLUDE MY VIN # AS PART OF A SELECTED VIN# MAILING FOR THIS RECALL, I AM NOT ELIGIBLE FOR REIMBURSEMENT OF THE MONIES SPENT TO REPLACE THE GAS TANK. TOOK MY 2003 GMC ENVOY TO MY LOCAL GARAGE BECAUSE THE CLUTCH FAN WOULD NOT SHUT OFF. MECHANIC ASKED ABOUT THE STRONG SMELL OF FUEL, AND I SAID I WAS AWARE THE TANK NEEDED TO BE REPLACED DUE TO A CRACK WHERE THE FILL TUBE GOES INTO THE TANK. THE MECHANIC SAID BOTH ARE IMPORTANT TO FIX, BUT THE FUEL LEAK COULD BE A DEADLY SITUATION, AND HE WOULD SUGGEST TACKLING THAT DEFECT FIRST, BUT IN ORDER FOR CAR TO RUN NORMAL HAD TO HAVE CLUTCH FAN REPLACED TOO. TOTAL COST FOR TANK RELATED REPLACEMENT: $1,058.04. TOTAL COST FOR CLUTCH FAN REPLACEMENT: $719.50 TOTAL COST FOR TAXES: $72.75. WHY HAVEN'T THESE WELL KNOWN DEFECTS BEEN ADDRESSED IN A RECALL. THE PASSENGER SIDE SEAT BELT SNAPPED, WHICH CAUSED THE PASSENGER TO BE EJECTED FROM THE VEHICLE AND KILLED BETWEEN THE SECOND OR THIRD ROLLOVER. NONE OF THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. THE DRIVER WAS HOSPITALIZED AND REMAINS IN SERIOUS CONDITION. THERE HAS BEEN NO EXPLANATION AS TO WHAT CAUSED THE PASSENGER SIDE SEAT BELT TO FAIL AND THE AIR BAGS TO NOT DEPLOY. RECENTLY, THE IDENTICAL FAILURE OCCURRED FOR THE THIRD TIME. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THE CONTACT TO TRADE-IN THE VEHICLE AND THEY WOULD OFFER HER A $1,400 CERTIFICATE. THE CONTACT WAS DISPLEASED WITH THE RESPONSE FROM THE MANUFACTURER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THERE WAS CONCERN OF A POTENTIAL SAFETY HAZARD. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 60,000.

FUEL PUMP OUTLET TUBE CORRODED THROUGH CAUSING A RELEASE OF FUEL UNDER PRESSURE, WHICH SPRAYED OVER THE TOP OF THE GAS TANK AND RAN DOWN BOTH SIDES OF THE TANK, I FEEL THIS COULD HAVE EASILY CAUSED A FIRE WITH ANY TYPE OF IGNITION SOURCE. THIS PREMATURE FAILURE (5 YEARS) COST OVER $1,000.00. *TR

The vehicle was taken to a dealer on several occasions, where it was determined that the differential needed to be repaired due to a leak coming from the axle. On several occasions, it was determined that the rear pinion seal needed to be replaced. The contact stated that the rear pinion seal was replaced on several occasions. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 66,411.

THERE SEEMS TO BE AN OVERWHELMING AMOUNT OF ERROR CODE PO442 IN THE 2003 GMC ENVOY AND CHEVY TRAILBLAZERS. THIS CODE IS A FAULTY GAS TANK THAT OVER TIME DEVELOPS A SMALL LEAK. WE SMELLED GAS FUMES AND WAS LOSING FUEL OUT OF THE TOP OF GAS TANK. THE FUEL TANK WAS REMOVED AND WE FOUND GAS STANDING ON TOP OF THE TANK. WE FOUND THE FUEL PUMP HAD RUSTED AND THE METAL LINES COMING OUT OF THE PUM WAS LEAKING. WE ORDER A NEW PUMP AND FILTER INSTALLED THEM AND PUT FUEL TANK BACK IN TRUCK.
