THE BRAKE LINES ARE RUSTED SO BADLY IT WILL NOT PASS IT'S NEXT VA STATE INSPECTION. THIS TRUCK HAS ONLY BEEN DRIVEN 74000 MILES. CAN THIS BE NORMAL? I AM A DISABLED VET WITH LIMITED INCOME AND CAN NOT AFFORD THE COST OF REPLACEMENT. THERE IS ALSO MORE THAN NORMAL RUST OF THE SUSPENSION AND OTHER PARTS UNDER THE BODY. I BELIEVE THIS HAS GONE ON TOO LONG AND A RECALL IS NECESSARY. *TR
MY 15 YEAR OLD SON DRIVING WITH ME IN THE PASSENGER SEAT HE HAS A LEARNERS PERMIT APPLYS THE BRAKE AND IT WENT TO THE FLOOR NOT BEING ABLE TO STOP PROPERLY SWERVES AND AVOIDS A COLLISION WITH LIMETED BRAKES I TOOK OVER AND MADE IT HOME BUY THE TIME I GOT HOME I HAD NO BRAKES AND NO BRAKE FLUID I WAS RELEIVED TO MAKE IT. I WORK ON CARS FOR A LIVING AND NEVER REPLACED BRAKELINES DO TO RUSTING OUT. THERE WILL BE A FATALITY IF GM DONT FIX THERE PROBLEM. I DONT LIVE IN WHERE IT SNOWS VERY OFTEN MY COUNY HAS 2 SALT TRUCKS AND MY ROADS I DRIVE DONT GET SALT ,WE HAVENT GOT SNOW BESIDES A DUSTING IN THREE YEARS. SO TO SAY ITS TRUCKS IN THE NORTH IS A FALSE STATEMENT. I BOUGHT A SS AFTERMARKET BRAKE LINE SET I WILL INSTALL IT MYSELF . MADE A LEFT HAND TURN AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT AFTER IT TURNED GREEN. I WAS THE ONLY VEHICLE AT THE TIME MAKING THE TURN, NOBODY IN FRONT OR BEHIND ME. DROVE ABOUT 1/10TH A MILE TO THE NEXT LIGHT, WHEN IT TURNED YELLOW, I IMMEDIATELY HIT THE BRAKES TO STOP. AT FIRST THE BRAKES WORKED THEN MY FOOT WENT TO THE FLOOR, I HAD NO BRAKES. I CAME TO A STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE INTERSECTION. I THEN BACKED UP, TO GET BEHIND THE LIGHT. AS I STATED AT THE BEGINNING, THERE WAS NOBODY IN FRONT OR BEHIND ME AT THE OTHER LIGHT MAKING THE TURN WITH ME, SO WHEN I WAS APPROACHING THE NEXT LIGHT, I HAD NOBODY IN FRONT OF ME, BEHIND ME OR TO MY RIGHT. THE ROADWAY WAS FOUR LANES, TWO IN EACH DIRECTION, WITH A CENTER MEDIUM. I WAS DRIVING IN THE LEFT LANE. SO I AM LOOKING TO DRIVE ANOTHER DAY AND SOMEONE ELSE TOO. THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM IS THAT THE BRAKE LINE THAT GOES FROM THE FRONT TO THE REAR, RUNNING ALONG SIDE THE FRAME, ON THE DRIVER SIDE, RUSTED OUT AND BROKE. I CONTACTED GM ABOUT THIS, AND AFTER TALKING AND COMPLAINING ABOUT WHAT HAPPENED, THEY SAID THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO FOR ME. MY PROBLEM IS THAT, THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE, AND THEY TAKE NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR IT. I SHOULD HAVE BEEN AT LEAST NOTIFIED IN SOME WAY AS AN OWNER THAT MY LIFE MAY BE IN DANGER IF I DO NOT HAVE MY BRAKE LINES CHECKED AND REPLACED IF NEEDED. THEY NO ABOUT THE PROBLEM AND ARE NOT CONTACTING OWNERS OF MY VEHICLE AND OTHERS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. I AM LOOKING TO HAVE NOT BEEN HURT OR KILLED OR HURTING AND KILLING SOMEONE ELSE. I DID NOT KNOW OF THE PROBLEM UNTIL AFTER IT HAPPENED. I WAS MOVING MY 1500HD GMC SIERRA WHICH HAS 29K MILE & THE FRONT BRAKE LINE UNDER THE RADIATOR, BLEW OUT DUE TO RUST THIS IS A NIGHTMARE FOR ANY GMC OWNER , UPON AN INSPECTION OF ALL BRAKE LINES I FIND THEY ARE JUST STEEL WITH NO ANTI CORROSION ON ANY OF THEM. I ALSO OWN A 2002 YUKON & NOW IT HAS THE SAME PROBLEM, ALL LINES ARE BADLY RUSTED & JUST RECENTLY THE LINES ON THE REAR AXLE BURST. THIS IS LIFE THREATENING SITUATION THE VERY THIS YOU RELY ON THE MOST IS BRAKES.
DRIVING DOWN RURAL ROAD AT 55MPH, A DEER JUMPS INTO MY PATH. I QUICKLY BRAKE, ABS ACTIVATES AND PEDAL DROPS TO NEAR FLOOR. TRUCK DOES STOP, BUT BRAKING MUCH MORE DIFFERENT THAN NORMAL. DEER MOVES ON AND I START MOVING AGAIN. NEXT STOP SIGN I NOTICE THAT BRAKE PEDAL DROPS TO FLOOR, STILL BRAKING, BUT MUCH MORE DIFFICULT TO BRAKE. I MADE IT HOME AND NOTICED MY BRAKE LINE DIRECTLY UNDER THE DRIVER POSITION WAS SPRAYING FLUID NOW. *TR
BRAKE LINE FAILURE.. THIS INCIDENT HAPPENED TODAY, 10/26/2014 *TR
PULLING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY ONTO THE STREET. APPLIED THE BRAKES WHEN REACHING THE END OF THE DRIVEWAY AND BRAKE PEDAL WHEN COMPLETELY TO THE FLOOR. WAS ABLE TO STOP, BEING THAT I WAS ONLY GOING AROUND 2 MPH AT THE TIME. WHEN I GOT OUT OF THE TRUCK, I SAW A LARGE AMOUNT OF BRAKE FLUID ON THE DRIVEWAY FROM A BURST BRAKE LINE. *TR
TRAVELING NORTH ON ROUTE 28 NEAR CHANTILLY, VIRGINIA, A LINE OF CARS IN FRONT OF ME CAME TO AN ABRUPT HALT. I PRESSED MY BRAKE PEDDLE HARD AND WITHIN THREE SECONDS THE BRAKE PEDDLE WAS AT THE FLOOR. I QUICKLY MANEUVERED MY TRUCK TO THE RIGHT AND WAS ABLE UTILIZE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO SLOW THE TRUCK TO A STOP. INCREDIBLY, MY SON AND I WERE NOT INJURED, WE DID NOT HIT THE LINE IF VEHICLES IN FRONT OF US, AND WERE ALL SPARED A POTENTIALLY DEADLY OUTCOME. AFTER COMING TO A STOP, MY SON AND I INSPECTED OUR TRUCK AND BRAKE FLUID WAS LEAKING FROM THE LEFT SUPPLY LINE TO THE REAR BREAK. THE LINE HAD BURST DUE TO HARD BRAKING AND CORROSION OF THE FUEL LINE. WE WERE SAVED FOR SOME REASON, HOWEVER, IF THIS HAD BEEN ON A WEEKDAY DURING COMMUTING HOURS, THE OUTCOME WOULD HAVE BEEN ENTIRELY DIFFERENT. THE NHTSA SHOULD CONTINUE TO HOLD GM ACCOUNTABLE FOR THIS POOR ENGINEERING (FUEL LINES) AND EVENTUAL CATASTROPHIC SITUATION THAT WILL, OR PROBABLY ALREADY HAS, HAPPENED. *TR
I DID NOT KNOW ABOUT THIS SITE AND THIS ACCIDENT HAPPENED IN OCT 2014. I WAS GOING AROUND A CURVE WITH 40 MPH SPEED LIMIT AND I WAS GOING 40 MPH. I STARTED TO BRAKE AS THIS WAS DOWNHILL AND A VERY LARGE TRUCK AND I DID NOT WISH TO INCREASE SPEED AS I FOLLOWED THE CURVE. MY BRAKES DID NOT RESPOND AND SANK TO THE FLOOR WITH NO RESISTANCE. I HAD NO STEERING ABILITY EITHER. I ENDED UP IN A HEAD-ON COLLISION WITH A VERY LARGE TREE AND THE AIRBAGS FAILED. I SPLIT MY HEAD OPEN ON THE STEERING WHEEL DESPITE BLOCKING MY FACE WITH MY FOREARMS CROSSED; A DE-GLOVING 10-12 INCH LACERATION DOWN TO THE SKULL THAT WRAPS FROM MY NOSE BRIDGE AROUND TO MY RIGHT EAR IN THE CIRCULAR SHAPE OF THE STEERING WHEEL. MY RIGHT LEG WAS PINNED INTO THE CENTER DASH AREA AS THE ENGINE BLOCK AND STEERING COLUMN WERE SHOVED INTO THE CAB. I HAD TO BE REMOVED FROM MY VEHICLE WITH THE JAWS OF LIFE BY EMERGENCY RESPONSE TEAMS. I AM LUCKY TO BE ALIVE. MY QUADRASTEER WAS DECLARED TOTALED BY USAA INSURANCE AND DESTROYED WITHOUT MY KNOWLEDGE. I CALLED USAA 3 DAYS AFTER THE CRASH AFTER FINDING SO MANY BRAKE FAILURES ON THIS VEHICLE/YEAR MODEL AND WAS TOLD IT WAS ALREADY DESTROYED, SO DOING AN INVESTIGATION WAS NOT POSSIBLE. I HAVE LIVED IN PAIN AND ALSO PARALYZING FEAR OF DRIVING SINCE THEN; 3 YEARS. I AM A DISABLED MILITARY VETERAN WITH PTSD AND PRIOR BRAIN SURGERY AND THIS ACCIDENT CAUSED TO ME ISOLATE SO SEVERELY I COULD NOT EVEN ATTEND MEDICAL APPOINTMENTS DUE TO MY NEW FEARS OF DRIVING & RIDING IN VEHICLES. MY LIFE IS NOW RUINED BY THIS ACCIDENT. DECREASING VA DISABILITY DUE TO INABILITY TO ATTEND APPOINTMENTS CAUSED A $1000.00 PER MONTH LOSS OF BENEFITS. I CAN'T AFFORD MY BILLS AND HAVE BEEN STRUGGLING WITH THE VA TO GAIN ACCESS TO MEDICAL EVALUATIONS SINCE THEY ARE NOW STRIVING TO CUT BENEFITS FROM ANYONE THEY CAN. PLEASE RECALL NOW!!!!! WHO ELSE HAS TO BE HURT OR KILLED?????
STARTED VEHICLE AND BEGAN DRIVING ON STREET. BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND BRAKES WERE NOT NORMAL. STOPPED VEHICLE AND SAW LARGE PUDDLE OF BRAKE FLUID UNDER VEHICLE. HAD VEHICLE TOWED TO REPAIR SHOP AND WAS TOLD BRAKE LINE RUSTED AND ALL BRAKE LINES WERE CORRODED AND THAT GM HAS HAD PROBLEMS WITH THIS IN MANY VEHICLES. FORTUNATE THAT FAILURE HAD NOT OCCURRED AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. REPAIR ESTIMATE WAS $3200 FOR REPLACEMENT OF BRAKE LINES AND ASSOCIATED PARTS. *TR
DEAR SIR OR MA'AM, I HAVE A 2002 GMC SIERRA TRUCK THAT I BOUGHT NEW IN 2002. THE BRAKES RECENTLY FAILED COMPLETELY WHILE MY WIFE WAS DRIVING ON OR ABOUT SEPTEMBER 26, 2014. THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR WITHOUT SIGNIFICANT BRAKING ACTION. FORTUNATELY SHE WAS ABLE TO STOP SAFELY AND WAS NOT INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT. UPON EXAMINATION, THE BRAKE LINE TO THE LEFT REAR WHEEL WAS COMPLETELY RUSTED THROUGH. I EXAMINED THE REST OF THE LINES AND NOTICED THAT THE BRAKE LINES, THE TRANSMISSION COOLER LINE AND THE FUEL LINE ALL SHOW SIGNS OF MAJOR CORROSION, ESPECIALLY ALONG THE FRAME. I HAVE LESS THAN 43,000 MILES ON THIS TRUCK AND IT WAS GARAGE-KEPT THE FIRST NINE YEARS I OWNED IT. I LIVE IN KY WHERE THE ROADS ARE ONLY SALTED A FEW TIMES A YEAR. THE REST OF THE VEHICLE IS RELATIVELY RUST FREE. THE TRUCK IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE NOW. EVEN IF I PATCH THE LEAK, THE REST OF THE LINES COULD FAIL AT ANY TIME. I COULD SUFFER CATASTROPHIC BRAKE FAILURE WHILE TOWING MY BOAT OR HORSE TRAILER OR SIMPLY GOING DOWN A HILL. FURTHERMORE, THE FUEL LINES ARE UNDER CONSIDERABLE PRESSURE AND IF THEY RUPTURE, THERE COULD BE A VERY DANGEROUS FIRE HAZARD. IF THE TRANSMISSION COOLER LINES RUPTURE, I COULD HAVE A COMPLETE TRANSMISSION FAILURE. I HAVE READ THAT THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH CHEVROLET AND GMC TRUCKS FOR YEARS 1999 TO 2003 AND THAT THE NTHSA HAS LOOKED INTO THIS IN THE PAST. IF OTHER TRUCKS ARE IN THE SAME CONDITION AS MINE (AND I BELIEVE THERE ARE), THERE IS A MAJOR SAFETY PROBLEM ON THE ROADS RIGHT NOW. YET, TO DATE NO RECALL HAS BEEN ISSUED. I THINK THIS IS COURTING DISASTER. IT IS MY OPINION THAT LINES MADE WITH INFERIOR STEEL WERE USED IN THE CONSTRUCTION OF THIS VEHICLE, YET GM REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE FACT. MY 16 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING THE TRUCK AT THE TIME OF THE FAILURE. SHE HAS HER TEMPORARY LICENSE AND WAS DRIVING FOR THE THIRD TIME. AFTER DRIVING IN TOWN AND ON SOME RURAL ROADS, SHE STARTED GETTING TOO CLOSE TO OTHER CARS AT STOP LIGHTS AND STOP SIGNS. I BEGAN TELLING HER TO STOP SOONER, SHE SAID SHE WAS TRYING. IT ONLY GOT WORSE SO WE WENT HOME. SHE ALMOST RAN INTO OUR HOUSE AS TRIED TO STOP IN THE DRIVEWAY. BECAUSE SHE IS A NEW DRIVER, SHE DID NOT REALIZE THE BRAKES WERE GOING OUT. AFTER WE GOT OUT OF THE TRUCK I NOTICED A PUDDLE OF FLUID FORMING UNDER THE DRIVER SIDE. I DETERMINED THAT IT WAS BRAKE FLUID. I RAISED THE HOOD AND HAD HER PRESS ON THE BRAKE PEDAL. BRAKE FLUID STARTED SPRAYING OUT OF A BRAKE LINE NEAR THE FRAME. THE BRAKE LINES FROM THE MASTER CYLINDER TO THE ABS MODULE ARE VERY RUSTY ALONG WITH EVERY OTHER BRAKE LINE. THIS TRUCK MAY BE 12 YEARS OLD AND HAVE 87,000 MILES BUT I HAVE ALWAYS TAKEN VERY GOOD CARE OF IT AND IT STILL LOOKS NEW INSIDE AND OUT. I DO NOT BELIEVE A MAJOR SAFETY COMPONENT LIKE THE BRAKES SHOULD BE FAILING AT THIS TIME. OTHER CRITICAL COMPONENTS HAVE WARNING SYSTEMS TO ALERT YOU TO POSSIBLE FAILURES BUT WHEN THERE IS NO WAY TO TELL IF SOMETHING CRITICAL WILL FAIL I BELIEVE THOSE PARTS SHOULD BE MADE TO LAST. IF THE LIFE EXPECTANCY OF A PART IS LIMITED, THE MANUFACTURER SHOULD RECOMMEND SERVICE AT A REASONABLE INTERVAL. MY DAUGHTER IS NOW SCARED TO DEATH TO DRIVE ANY OF OUR CARS BECAUSE SHE FEELS IT COULD HAPPEN AGAIN. I AM JUST GLAD I WASN'T PULLING MY 20 FOOT BOAT AND HAD TO MAKE A PANIC STOP AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS WHEN THE LINE FAILED. SOMEONE COULD HAVE GOT INJURED OR KILLED I AM CURRENTLY GETTING QUOTES TO HAVE IT REPAIRED. SO FAR I HAVE RECEIVED PRICES RANGING FROM $600-1500. I FEEL GM SHOULD COVER MOST TO ALL OF THESE EXPENSES BECAUSE THEY USED SUB-PAR PARTS TO BUILD A CRITICAL COMPONENT OF THE BRAKE SYSTEM. *TR
I HAVE OWNED MANY GM TRUCKS, AND NEVER HAD ONE WITH SO MANY RUSTED OUT BRAKE LINES. WHY CAN'T THEY MAKE THEM WITH STAINLESS STEEL LINES. THEY SHOULD HAVE A RECALL FOR THIS. WHAT HAPPENS WHEN FRONT AND BACK LINES GO AT THE SAME TIME, I WILL TELL YOU, NO BRAKES ! THIS IS THE WORST ONE WITH THE RUST THAT I HAVE HAD. 3 LINES RUST OUT ON THE GMC 2500 HD (2002) WITH MORE TO COME, I HAVE 25,000 MILES ON THIS TRUCK. THE FIRST LINE WENT ABOUT 15,000 MILES. ALSO I ONLY GOT ABOUT 5,000 MILES ON THOSE FIRESTONE TIRES, CHEAP TIRES COME WITH THIS TRUCK. I HAVE ALSO NOTICED THE FRAME IS RUSTING, HAD TO HAVE THE CABLE REPLACED THAT SHIFTS THE TRUCK INTO GEAR, IT RUSTED OUT. I GO TO THE CAR WASH AND ALWAYS WASH THE UNDERSIDE OF THE TRUCK TO GET ALL THE DIRT AND SALT OFF EVERY CHANCE I GET. WHEN I GOT THE GMC I WAS TOLD BY THE GMC GARAGE NOT TO HAVE THE TRUCK UNDERCOATED BECAUSE IT WOULD VOID THE WARRANTY ON IT. I ALSO HAD TO HAVE THE CABLES REPLACED ON THE TAIL GATE DUE TO RUST. VERY SAD ABOUT THIS GMC TRUCK. EVERYTHING IS RUSTING. I SHOULD HAVE A LOT OF MILES LEFT ON THIS TRUCK, IF IT DOESN'T RUST ITSELF TO DEATH OR GET ME KILLED BECAUSE OF RUSTED OUT BRAKE LINES !
FOLKS; WHAT IS THE STORY WITH TIN WHISKERS FORMING IN SOLDERED ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS? DOES MY GMC HAVE LEAD FREE SOLDER ANYWHERE IN IT'S ELECTRICALLY SOLDERED COMPONENTS? I'VE HAVE MULTIPLE FAILED ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS WHICH IMPLIES MULTIPLE SHORTS. WHAT MAKES, MODELS AND YEARS ARE THIS PROBLEM KNOWN TO HAVE OCCURRED IN BESIDES THE TOYOTA CAMRY 2003? WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO FIX THIS PROBLEM? *TR
BRAKES FAILED WHILE DRIVING DOWN ROAD. ALL BRAKE LINES ARE SEVERELY RUSTED. IS THEIR A GALVANIC REACTION BETWEEN LINES AND TRUCK THAT IS CAUSING THIS? HAVE NEVER HAD BRAKE LINES RUST AS BADLY ON OTHER VEHICLES THAT WERE OLDER THAN THIS ONE. *TR
I HAD BEEN DRIVING FOR 15-20 MILES BOTH ON AND OFF THE HIGHWAY AND THE VEHICLE STOPPED FINE. I WAS TRAVELING AT ABOUT 60 MPH AND WAS COMING UP ON HIGHWAY TRAFFIC THAT WAS AT A STANDSTILL . I STEPPED ON THE BRAKE PEDDLE AND IT WENT STRAIT TO THE FLOOR, ABSOLUTELY NO BRAKES AT ALL AND NO EVEN A HINT THIS WAS ABOUT TO HAPPEN. I WAS ABLE TO SWERVE OUT OF THE WAY, NARROWLY MISSING THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME, AND USED THE TRANSMISSION AND E BRAKE TO GET THE VEHICLE STOPPED ON A GRASSY SHOULDER. HAD A VEHICLE BEEN NEXT TO ME OR A LESS EXPERIENCED DRIVER BEEN BEHIND THE WHEEL, IT MAY HAVE BEEN A MUCH WORSE OUTCOME . I KNOW AT LEAST 10 PEOPLE WHO OWN SIMILAR VEHICLES AND EVERYONE HAS HAD A BRAKE LINE FAILURE AT SOME POINT. GM NEEDS TO STEP UP AND COVER THIS BEFORE SOMEONE ELSE GET HURT OR KILLED! *TR
THIS IS THE SECOND TIME A BRAKE LINE HAS BURST ON THIS TRUCK. THIS IS DANGEROUS. I HAD THE TRUCK TAKEN TO LOCAL SHOP AND WAS TOLD ALL BRAKE LINES ARE IN DANGER OF RUPTURE. HOW CAN GMC PUT THIS JUNK STEEL IN THEIR BRAKE LINES? WHEN PEOPLE START GETTING KILLED IF THEY HAVENT ALREADY MAYBE SOMETHING WILL BE DONE. I SMELL SOME LAWYER GETTING RICH HERE. *TR
ANTI LOCK BRAKES AT LOW SPEED ACTIVATED CANNOT STOP VEHICLE PRESSING HARDER BRAKE LINE BLEW HAD NO BRAKES REAR ENDED VEHICLE STOPPED AT RED LIGHT. *TR
WHILE DRIVING IN TOWN, I DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL TO SLOW FOR A STOP SIGN TRAVELING UNDER 25 MPH. THE PEDAL PRESSURE FELT FIRM/NORMAL FOR A BRIEF SECOND AND THEN WENT NEARLY TO THE FLOOR AND I WAS BARELY ABLE TO STOP. THE BRAKE LIGHT ON THE DASH DID NOT ILLUMINATE UNTIL APPROXIMATELY THE 10TH TIME I TRIED TO STOP. IF THERE HAD BEEN SOMEONE IN FRONT OF ME OR I WAS TRAVELING IN A HIGHER SPEED ZONE, I MOST CERTAINLY WOULD NOT HAVE STOPPED IN TIME. THE DIAGNOSIS IS THE REAR BRAKE LINE RUSTED THROUGH. FRONT HUBS FAILED TWICE REQUIRING THEIR REPLACEMENT WITHIN SIX MONTHS. FRONT BRAKE PADS REPLACED TWICE IN 16 MONTHS AND 10,718 MILES. WHILE DRIVING DOWN A VERY BUSY STREET, THE ENGINE DIED. I LOST ALL MY POWER STEERING AND BRAKE. I WAS VERY LUCKY THAT I WAS NOT ON A VERY BUSY HIGHWAY. I HAD IT TOWED TO HEDRICK'S CHEVROLET IN CLOVIS CA. IT TOOK 2 DAYS FOR THEM TO CHECK IT OUT. THEY SAID WHEN THEY WENT TO BRING IT IN TO THE SHOP IT STARTED UP AND THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT. I PICKED THE TRUCK UP AND THE NEXT DAY IT DID THE SAME THING AGAIN. I CALLED THE DEALER AND THEY TOLD ME TO PRESS THE PUMP ON THE TOP OF THE FILTER HOUSING UNTIL I COULD NO LONGER PRESS IT. I DID THAT AND IT STARTED UP. BE CAME VERY OBVIOUS THAT THEY WERE AWARE THAT THE FUEL FILTER HOUSING WAS CAUSING THE INJECTION SYSTEM TO LOSE SUCTION I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER AND THEY REPLACED THE FUEL FILTER HOUSING. I HAVE SINCE FOUND OUT THAT THIS FAILURE IS A COMMON FAILURE. 2002 GMC SIERRA 1500-BRAKES WENT OUT SUDDENLY AS I WAS TURNING INTO A BUSY INTERSECTION. PEDAL WENT RIGHT TO THE FLOOR-NO BRAKES. THERE WAS NO SEPARATE SYSTEM CIRCUIT THAT BROUGHT THE TRUCK TO A HALT, THERE WERE NO DASHBOARD WARNING LIGHTS ENGAGED, AND NO BRAKE FLUID LEAK BEFORE THAT WOULD ALERT ME TO A FAILURE. I APPROACHED A BUSY INTERSECTION AND BECAUSE TRAFFIC SIGNAL WAS TURNING AMBER, I APPLIED MY BRAKES AND THERE WERE NO BRAKES. THE BRAKE LINES HAD CORRODED AND BROKE. ALTHOUGH I FILED A COMPLAINT LAST YEAR, GM HAS DECIDED THAT EVEN THOUGH THERE ARE NUMEROUS INCIDENTS REGARDING THE CHEAP PARTS THEY USED IN THESE VEHICLES, THEY WOULD NOT ISSUE A RECALL. IN FACT, THERE WAS A NEWSPAPER ARTICLE 2 WEEKS AGO THAT STATED THERE WOULD BE NO RECALL BECAUSE MOST OF THESE ACCIDENTS WERE IN NORTHERN STATES WHERE SALT IS USED ON THE ROADS IN WINTER. HOWEVER, NOW THEY HAVE ISSUED A VERY LIMITED RECALL FOR CADILLAC CTSS FOR THE EXACT YEARS THAT OUR GMC SUFFERED SAME KIND OF BRAKE FAILURE. THE COST TO REPLACE THESE FAULTY PARTS IS ESTIMATED AT $2000 PER VEHICLE. BUT THE DANGER TO LIFE AND PROPERTY IS MUCH GREATER. THE ACCIDENT HAPPENED IN A PARKING LOT. AS I WAS TURNING AT THE END OF ROW OF PARKED VEHICLES ,A PICK-UP TRUCK WAS BACKING OUT OF A PARKING PLACE. I APPLIED THE BRAKES BUT THERE WAS NO RESPONSE ONLY A RATCHETING NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT END OF MY PICK-UP. I PUT THE TRUCK IN NEUTRAL BUT IT CONTINUED TO GO FORWARD UNTIL MY TRUCK RAN INTO THE OTHER ONE. THIS HAPPENED AT A VERY LOW SPEED BUT THERE WAS STILL QUITE A BIT OF DAMAGE TO THE TRUCKS. IT ALMOST FELT LIKE THE TRUCK WAS BEING PULLED FORWARD ON ITS OWN. I GOT MY TRUCK IN TO A MECHANIC AND HE REPLACED THE LEFT FRONT WHEEL SPEED SENSOR. THIS ACCIDENT WAS SMALL BUT I COULD JUST AS EASILY RUN INTO SOMEONE IN A WHEELCHAIR OR SOMEONE THAT COULD NOT GET OUT OF THE WAY. I FOUND OUT LATER THAT THE TRUCK WAS RECALLED BEFORE I OWNED IT (AT 43000 MILES) FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. THE TRUCK NOW HAS 103000 MILES ON IT AND IT APPEARS THAT THE ORIGINAL PROBLEM HAS NOT BEEN SOLVED. *TR

NO WARNING LIGHTS, OR ANY OTHER INDICATIONS OF BRAKE FAILURE UNTIL THERE WERE SUDDENLY ZERO BRAKES. I WAS VERY LUCKY THAT THIS DIDN'T HAPPEN SOMEWHERE ELSE, WITH MY ONE-YEAR OLD DAUGHTER IN THE TRUCK. I SEE THAT THE BRAKE FLUID IS SQUIRTING OUT OF ONE OF THE FOUR STEEL LINES JUST UNDER THE MASTER CYLINDER WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL IS PRESSED. UPON INSPECTION I ALSO SEE THAT ALL THE LINES LOOK TO BE CORRODED. I INTEND TO REPLACE ALL THE BRAKE LINES ON THIS VEHICLE NOW DUE TO THE CORROSION SEEN, AS I DO NOT BELIEVE IT WOULD BE SAFE TO DRIVE OTHERWISE. *TR
