THE FRONT AND REAR BUMPERS HAVE RUSTED SO BAD THAT THEY HAVE BIG HOLES IN THEM. I WAS TOLD I HAVE TO REPLACE THEM BOTH BEFORE I CAN GET AN INSPECTION STICKER ON THE PICK UP, AT THE COST OF OVER $1000.00 FOR PARTS AND LABOR. I HAVE SEEN MANY MORE PICK UPS WITH THE SAME RUSTED BUMPERS. IS THERE A RECALL FOR BUMPER REPLACEMENT ON THESE PICKUPS?? *TR
ENTERED 1ST LANE OF TRAFFIC , ACCELERATED AND ENTERED SECOND LANE. AT THAT TIME TRAFFIC SLOWED ABRUPTLY. APPLIED PRESSURE TO BRAKE, BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR--PUMPED BRAKE, TOTAL FAILURE CAUSING ME TO HIT VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME. APPLIED EMERGENCY BRAKE TO STOP VEHICLE, HOWEVER TRACTOR TRAILER WAS BEHIND HONKING HORN , CAME WITHIN INCHES OF HITTING ME. WITH EMERGENCY BRAKE APPLIED, FORCED TRUCK TO BREAKDOWN LANE. LUCKILY NO INJURIES--JUST CAR DAMAGE INCLUDING A NEW FRONT BUMPER THAT HAD JUST BEEN REPLACED DUE TO CHRONIC GM RUSTING. TOW TRUCK ARRIVED--DRIVER NOTICES SEVERE BRAKE FLUID DRAINAGE ON GROUND AND ON TRUCK BED WHEN RAISED UP. TRUCK BROUGHT TO REPAIR SHOP, WHERE MECHANIC REPORTED ALL BRAKE LINES BURST DUE TO SEVERE CORROSION. MECHANIC STATED--NO WONDER YOU DIDN'T HAVE ANY BRAKES BECAUSE ALL LINES FAILED--NOT SURPRISED DUE TO GMC HAVING BRAKE LINE ISSUES. NEEDLESS TO SAY--TRAUMATIC EXPERIENCE THAT COULD HAVE BEEN A LOT WORSE UNDER DIFFERENT TRAFFIC CONDITIONS. THINK ABOUT CHILD RUNNING ACROSS ROAD--TRACTOR TRAILER NOT BEING ABLE TO STOP IN TIME....HIGHER SPEED ON THE HIGHWAY-- THINK ABOUT IT--I CERTAINLY AM!!! *TR
COMPLETE BRAKE FAILURE WHILE PULLING A 10000 POUND TRAILER IN CAMP GROUND. THE BRAKE LINES UNDER THE DRIVERS SIDE BROKE APPEARED TO BE CORROSION. TRUCK WAS TOWED TO REPAIR LOCATION. ALL BRAKE LINES WERE REPLACED, COST $ 950 DOLLARS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 GMC SIERRA. WHILE DRIVING AT 60 MPH, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED BUT TOOK A LONGER DISTANCE TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC MULTIPLE TIMES WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE BRAKE LINES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 46,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
AS I STATED PULLING OUT OF MY PARKING SPACE. I PRESSED DOWN ON THE BRAKE PEDAL AND IT WENT TO THE FLOOR. I QUICKLY PUT IT IN PARK. THEN CHECKED UNDER THE TRUCK TO FIND BRAKE FLUID LEAKING ALL OVER. THE LINE HAD RUSTED APART. *TR
I WAS APPROACHING AN INTERSECTION WHERE TRAFFIC WAS STOPPED FOR A RED LIGHT. I APPLIED THE BRAKES AND WAS DECREASING SPEED FROM APPROX 35 MPH. AT APPROX.10-15 MPH THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR WITHOUT ANY WARNING OR SENSOR DETECTION AND THE BRAKES FAILED. I HELD THE PEDAL TO THE FLOOR, IMMEDIATELY SHIFTED TO LOW GEAR AND DRIFTED TO THE RIGHT SHOULDER TO AVOID THE STOPPED TRAFFIC. I SLOWLY MOVED THE VEHICLE TO A SAFE PLACE. IN A SHORT DISTANCE THE SERVICE BRAKE SYSTEM WARNING ACTIVATED BUT THERE WAS NO WARNING PRIOR TO FAILURE. THE TRUCK WAS TAKEN TO MY MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS FOUND THAT THE BRAKE LINE ON THE LEFT FRAME RAIL HAD FAILED UNDER PRESSURE DUE TO EXTREME RUST. IT WAS ALSO DETERMINED THAT ALL THE BRAKE LINES, EMERGENCY BRAKE CABLE AND BRAKE PLATES WERE RUSTED FAR IN ADVANCE OF EXPECTATIONS FOR MY MODEL YEAR AND MILEAGE. ALL BRAKE LINES HAVE TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE ANOTHER FAILURE IS CERTAIN IF ONLY THE BLOWN LINE IS REPLACED. I CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP THAT SOLD AND HAS SERVICED MY VEHICLE AND THEY STATED THAT THERE WAS NO ASSISTANCE OR RECALL FOR RUSTED BRAKE LINES EVEN THOUGH THERE ARE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS. *TR
I WAS PARKED ON A SLOPED DRIVEWAY (ABOUT 10 - 15 DEGREES). I STARTED THE ENGINE, STEPPED ON THE BRAKE PEDAL AND TOOK THE CAR OUT OF PARK INTO DRIVE. BRAKE PEDAL WAS NORMAL. I STARTED TO ROLL FORWARD AND WHEN I PUSHED THE BRAKE PEDAL THE CAR DID NOT SLOW. I SLAMMED THE BRAKE PEDAL AND IT WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. AT THIS POINT I WENT OFF THE END OF THE DRIVEWAY ONTO A 45 DEGREE DOWNWARD SLOPED LAWN; THEN INTO A WOODED AREA AT THE TOP OF A RAVINE. I SLAMMED INTO A TREE. THE CAR WAS JUDGED A TOTAL LOSS BY MY INSURANCE COMPANY. I DID NOT GET A BRAKE WARNING LIGHT. THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE CAR WAS SERVICED AT A UNION PARK GMC (WILMINGTON, DE) TWO DAYS PRIOR. INCLUDING BRAKE INSPECTION. CAUSE OF BRAKE FAILURE WAS DETERMINED TO BE RUPTURED BRAKE LINE. BOTH FRONT AND REAR BRAKES WERE FAILED. *TR
ATTEMPTED TO STOP AT RED LIGHT. BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO FLOOR. SWERVED TO NOT REAR-END CAR IN FRONT. RAN RED LIGHT BECAUSE UNABLE TO STOP. PULLED INTO RESIDENTIAL SIDE STREET AND SLAMMED INTO PARK. BRAKES WOULD NOT STOP THE TRUCK. NOT TOWING ANY LOAD. NO LOAD IN TRUCK BED. UPON INVESTIGATION AFTER STOPPING, BRAKE FLUID SPRAYING OUT LEFT REAR BRAKE LINE NEAR AXLE WHEN PEDAL DEPRESSED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 GMC SIERRA 1500. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED AND TRAVELED TO THE FLOORBOARD. THE CONTACT NOTICED BRAKE FLUID LEAKING FROM THE VEHICLE. IN ADDITION, THE REAR SEAT BELT LATCH FAILED TO FUNCTION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE BRAKE LINE NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 144,917.
BRAKE LINE LEAKS, BRAKE STOPPED WORKING BECAUSE OF RUSTED BRAKE LINES. ALSO FUEL AND TRANSMISSION LINES ARE RUSTED BADLY. *TR
WHEN ATTEMPTING TO USE BRAKES AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS (70-75 MPH), PEDAL WENT IMMEDIATELY TO FLOOR WITH VERY LITTLE EFFORT. PEDAL HAD HELD FIRM MOMENTS BEFORE. NO REDUCTION IN SPEED FROM PUMPING PEDAL. NO WARNING OF MALFUNCTION UNTIL DANGER WAS IMMINENT. A CERTAIN CRASH WAS AVOIDED IF EVASIVE DRIVING WAS NOT IMPLEMENTED WITH A COMBINATION OF SHIFTING TO NEUTRAL, KICKING ON THE EMERGENCY BRAKE, AND SHIFTING TO THE BERM. STOPPING DISTANCE ESTIMATED TO BE AT LEAST A HALF MILE TO 3/4. VEHICLE SUFFERED MINOR FRONT END DAMAGE FROM USING THE BERM TO AVOID OTHER VEHICLES. UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION, A HARD STEEL REAR BRAKE LINE ABOVE FRAME HAD FULLY RUSTED THROUGH. IT HAD COME APART WITH A LARGE WINDOW, RATHER THAN A SMALL PERFORATION WHICH WOULD HAVE ALLOWED SOME BRAKE MODULATION. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 GMC SIERRA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, THE BRAKE PEDAL SANK TO THE FLOORBOARD WHEN IT WAS DEPRESSED. THE CONTACT HAD TO SHIFT TO A LOWER GEAR TO SLOW DOWN THE VEHICLE AND THE BRAKE SERVICE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT DISCOVERED THAT THE BRAKE FLUID LINES WERE RUPTURED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.
PULLING OUT OF DRIVEWAY, NO BRAKES. BROKEN CORRODED BRAKE LINE, APPEARS THAT ALL LINES LOOK IN THE SAME SHAPE .LUCKILY THERE WAS NO ONCOMING TRAFFIC. THE HOLE IN THE LINE IS DIRECTLY UNDER THE DRIVER SEAT. *TR
I AM AN ASE MASTER TECHNICIAN, I OWN AN AUTO/TRUCK REPAIR FACILITY. WE ARE A STATE OF OREGON AUTHORIZED DEQ REPAIR FACILITY, STATE OF OREGON DAS FLEET REPAIR FACILITY, US ARMY BASE VEHICLE REPAIR SHOP AND MORE. DRIVING MY TRUCK TO TACOMA WASHINGTON. I WAS TOWING A VEHICLE ON IN THE RIGHT SLOW LANE, AND "REDUCED ENGINE POWER" LIGHT CAME ON. ENGINE VIBRATED AND RUNS ON 1/2 CYLINDERS. CANNOT BRAKE OR STEER, TOTAL LACK OF POWER. SEMI-TRUCK NEARLY REAR ENDS ME AS I CANNOT GO OVER 10 MPH. NO THROTTLE RESPONSE, PERIOD. I WAS IN ROAD CONSTRUCTION ZONE AND EVERYONE WAS SLAMMING ON THEIR BRAKES TO AVOID PILE-UP AS I HAD NO SHOULDER TO PULL OVER TO. A MILE OR SO LATER I PULLED OVER, AND SHUT OFF TRUCK. RESTARTED FEW MINUTES LATER AND CEL WAS ON, BUT REDUCED ENGINE POWER LIGHTS OUT. I CONTINUED MY DRIVE, BUT NOW CAUTIOUSLY. IT HAPPENED 3 MORE TIMES GETTING TO TACOMA, AND 5 TIMES RETURNING BACK TO PDX. NOW AFRAID OF TRUCK. I FINALLY ARRIVED TO MY SHOP THE NEXT DAY AND SCANNED. CODES READ MAF FAIL, TPS FAIL. REPLACED THROTTLE PEDAL ASSY, THROTTLE BODY WITH POSITION SENSOR, WIRING TO THE THROTTLE BODY, CHECKED GROUNDS, REPLACED BATTERY AND MORE AS STATED BY GM TECH'S. STILL HAPPENS EVERY DAY. SEEMS LIKE UNDER LOW ACCELERATION, ENGINE BUCKS THEN CEL APPEARS AND REDUCED ENGINE POWER RETURNS. GM HAS NO OFFERS OR EXPLANATIONS FOR REPAIRS. I AM A CERTIFIED ASE MASTER TECHNICIAN AND HAVE NEVER SEEN OR HEARD OF THIS UNTIL I WENT ONLINE TO SEE IF THIS HAPPENS TO OTHERS. THIS IS A MAJOR PROBLEM WITH MOST GM OWNERS IN THE "FLY BY WIRE" TYPE OF VEHICLES. NO FIXES, NO HELP FROM GM. THIS HAS AND IS STILL OCCURRING EVEN TODAY 1/27/2015 WITH NO FIXES. VEHICLE IS BEING PARKED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE AS THIS VEHICLE IS DANGEROUS TO DRIVE. BRAKE LINE CORROSION CAUSED REAR DRIVERS SIDE STEEL LINE TO BURST AND LOSE MOST OF THE TRUCK'S BRAKING ABILITY. LUCKILY I WAS DRIVING SLOWLY AT THE TIME. IN ADDITION TO THE LINE THAT RUSTED THROUGH, ALL LINES WILL NEED REPLACING AFTER FURTHER INSPECTION. *TR
II PUT NEW BRAKE CALIPERS ON MY TRUCK TODAY AND HAD MY WIFE PUMPING THE BRAKE PEDDLE AS I BLED THE BRAKES AND GOT TO THE LAST CALIPER REARS THEN THE 2 FRONTS WHEN SHE TOLD ME THE BRAKE PEDDLE WAS NOT HOLDING LIKE IT WAS , AND THEN SMOKE CAME OUT FROM UNDER THE TRUCK AND I LOOKED UNDERNEATH & SEEN BRAKE FLUID EVERYWHERE BELOW DRIVERS DOOR THE FLUID UNDER PRESSURE BLEW OVER AGAINST THE HOT ENGINE COMPONENTS AS U HAVE TO RUN ENGINE WHEN BLEEDING THE LINES LUCKY I GUESS IT DID NOT CATCH FIRE, BUT AFTER I GOT ON THE INTERNET TRYING TO FIND A REPLACEMENT I FOUND THAT IS A COMMON PROBLEM , I DID SEE THE OTHER LINES LOOKED BAD ALSO THE FUEL LINES LOOKED THE SAME GOOD THING IT HAPPENED IN THE DRIVEWAY AT HOME . MAYBE WOULD HAVE BEEN BETTER OFF IF IT BURNT DOWN , G.M SHOULD FIX ALL OF THESE PROBLEMS WITH THESE TRUCKS ON THEIR DIME AS MUCH AS THESE TRUCKS COST. !! *TR
AS A MINIVAN IN FRONT OF ME PUT THEIR LEFT TURN SIGNAL ON LATE, I HAD TO HIT MY BRAKES QUICKLY AND WHEN I DID MY BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND I WAS PUMPING AIR AND HAD NO BRAKES AT ALL. I SWIRVED AROUND THE VAN AND LUCKILY I WAS ON AN INCLINED ROAD AS I WAS ABLE TO SLOW THE VEHICLE DOWN INTO A LOT AND THEN PULLED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO GET THE TRUCK STOPPED. MY FRONT AND BACK BRAKE LINE BLEW OUT AND MY MECHANIC SAID I WAS LUCKY THAT I WASN'T KILLED. NOW THE TRUCK IS NOT USABLE AND THE AFTER 52,000 MILES I FEEL THIS IS A SITUATION OF DEFECTIVE BRAKE LINES. *TR
2003 GMC SIERRA. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO A SPEEDOMETER FAILURE. *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED SHE WAS DRIVING 55 MPH. HOWEVER, THE SPEEDOMETER SHOWED 100 MPH. IT WENT ON FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS AND THEN WENT BACK TO NORMAL. THE NEXT DAY, THE SPEEDOMETER WAS ACTING ERRATIC AGAIN. THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER, HOPING IT WOULD BE SOMETHING SMALL, BUT IT TURNED OUT TO BE A $700 EXPENSE. *JB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 GMC SIERRA 2500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER INSPECTING THE VEHICLE, HE NOTICED THAT THE OIL LEVEL WAS ELEVATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL INJECTORS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED AFTER APPROXIMATELY 30,000 MILES AND THE VEHICLE WAS EMITTING SMOKE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED WITH NEW FUEL INJECTORS BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 209,000.
WHILE PARKING THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT COMPLETELY TO THE FLOOR AND SPRAYED BREAK LINE FLUID ALL ON THE MANIFOLD. THERE WERE ZERO BRAKES AND DISCOVERED THE BRAKE LINES WERE CORRODED. THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE TOWED TO A SHOP FOR REPAIR TO THE LEAK. THIS DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM BECAUSE ALL OF THE LINES ARE CORRODED. I WOULD NOT CONSIDER OUR STATE A "SALT STATE" BEING THAT WE LIVE IN THE SOUTH. DUE TO THESE CHEAP BREAK LINES WE WILL HAVE TO HAVE THEM ALL REPLACED. WE ARE VERY, VERY DISSATISFIED AND WILL PROBABLY NEVER BUY A GMC PRODUCT IF THIS PROBLEM IS NOT RESOLVED BY GM. *TR
DRIVING DOWN MIDDLEBELT ROAD COMING UP TO A RED LIGHT I HIT THE BRAKES AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO FLOOR, TRUCK FINALLY CAME TO STOP, LOOKED UNDER HOOD AND COULD SEE BRAKE FLUID LEAKING OUT OF RIGHT FRONT BRAKE LINE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 GMC SIERRA 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO RESPOND TO DECELERATION ATTEMPTS AND THAT THE BRAKE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT INSPECTED THE BRAKES AND NOTICED THAT THE FAILURE WAS DUE TO CORROSION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. DRIVING APROX. 40 MPH APPLIED BRAKES, BRAKES WERE SOFT. REAPPLIED BRAKES AND BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO FLOOR. LUCKY TO GET OFF THE ROAD PRIOR TO STOPPED TRAFFIC. PULLED INTO PARKING LOT & DISCOVERED BRAKE FLUID DRIPPING AND ALL OVER THE UNDERNEATH OF VEHICLE BOTH FRONT & REAR AREA. INSPECTED THE BRAKE FLUID RESERVOIR TO FIND IT EMPTY. INSPECTION BY MY REPAIR SHOP DISCOVERED SEVERAL LINES HAD RUSTED THRU AND LEAKED THE FLUID OUT. I WAS FORTUNATE THAT I DID NOT REAR END ANY VEHICLES IN FRONT OF ME AND LUCKY THAT I WAS NOT ON A FAST MOVING EXPRESS WAY & NEEDED TO STOP. *TR
I WAS BACKING UP A TRAILER WITH MY 2003 GMC SIERRA AND TRIED TO STOP WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND DID NOT STOP. CHECKED OUT THE BRAKES AND FOUND THAT THE BRAKE LINES ARE RUSTED BAD AND ONE HAD FAILED. I FOUND OUT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS TRUCK FOR THAT TIME PERIOD. READING ABOUT OTHER COMPLAINTS AND THERE ARE A LOT OF THEM . THIS IS NOT NORMAL AND VERY DANGEROUS AND THERE NEEDS TO BE A RECALL FOR THESE VEHICLES. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND WARRANTS A RECALL TO REPLACE THESE BRAKE LINES. THIS IS A SERIOUS ISSUE! THERE ARE NO WARNINGS, AND MOST OWNERS OF THESE VEHICLES, LIKE MYSELF ARE NOT AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM. IT MAKES ME SICK TO KNOW THAT GM IS AWARE OF THE POOR CHOICE OF MATERIALS THEY USED TO MAKE THESE BRAKE LINES AND BY DOING SO PUTTING OUR LOVE ONES IN DANGER AND PUT MONEY FIRST. *TR
2003 GMC SIERRA 1500, BRAKE LINE FAILURE. PURCHASED TRUCK NEW IN 2003 WHILE STATIONED IN THE SOUTH, TRANSFERRED TO NEW ENGLAND IN 2008. 50/50 NORTH-SOUTH TRUCK, CAN'T BLAME IT ALL ON ROAD SALT. EVENT: WHILE IN PARKING LOT THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT RIGHT TO THE FLOOR WHILE SHIFTING INTO REVERSE. BRAKE LINES COMPLETELY ROTTED OUT, FLUID ON THE GROUND LEFT FRONT SIDE AND UNDER DRIVERS SEAT AREA. DRUMS AND ROTORS WERE REPLACED TWO YEARS PRIOR. TRUCK WAS TOWED TO THE SHOP AND I'M STILL AWAITING THE ESTIMATE. AFTER QUICKLY READING THE AMOUNT OF ISSUES IN THE PAST 24 HOURS GM NEEDS TO RECALL AND FIX THESE ISSUE BEFORE LOSS OF LIFE NUMBERS INCREASE. *TR
DRIVING TO WORK ONE DAY, A CAR IN FRONT OF ME SUDDENLY STOPPED TO TURN LEFT. I HIT MY BRAKES AND FELT A "POP" AND THE BRAKE PEDDLE WENT STRAIGHT TO THE FLOOR, NO BRAKES. I WAS TRAVELING ABOUT 55 MPH SO AT THAT POINT, I AM A 55 MPH SPEAR ON WHEELS. I SWERVED TO THE RIGHT AND DROVE ACROSS SOMEONE'S DRIVEWAY AND THROUGH THEIR YARD. THIS WEEKEND WAS THE CITY WIDE GARAGE SALES, AND THANKFULLY, THESE FOLKS WERE NOT HAVING A SALE IN THEIR DRIVEWAY OR YARD, OR ELSE THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A TERRIBLE ACCIDENT. THE ONLY RUST ISSUE WITH THIS TRUCK IS THE BRAKE LINES AND FUEL LINES. IF YOUR LINES RUST BEFORE YOUR BODY RUST, THEN I FEEL THERE IS A SERIOUS DESIGN FLAW. IF IT WAS SOMETHING ELSE RUSTING THEN IT WOULDN'T BE AS BIG OF A DEAL. BUT WHEN YOU ARE TALKING BRAKE LINES, IT IS JUST A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE THIS FLAW CAUSES ANOTHER CATASTROPHIC BRAKE FAILURE, LEADING TO AN ACCIDENT INVOLVING SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH. A 10 YEAR OLD TRUCK SHOULD NOT HAVE THIS PROBLEM. I HAVE OWNED VEHICLES THAT WERE 15, 20 YEARS OLD AND HAVE NEVER HAD TO REPLACE BRAKE LINES. SOMEONE'S LIFE IS WORTH SO MUCH MORE THAN A CHEAPLY MADE BRAKE LINE. *TR
WHEN PLACED IN PARK THEN TURNED OFF THE KEY WOULDN'T COME OUT OF THE IGNITION, WHEN PLACED IN DRIVE WHILE RUNNING THE KEY WOULD COME OUT FREELY. *TR
APPLIED BRAKES WHEN A DEER RAN IN FRONT OF THE TRUCK. STEEL BRAKE LINE FEEDING THE LEFT FRONT BRAKE RUPTURED AS A RESULT OF CORROSION JUST ABOVE THE FITTING WHERE THE STEEL LINE CONNECTS TO THE BRAKE HOSE. PEDAL IMMEDIATELY WENT TO THE FLOOR, BOTH BRAKING CIRCUITS FAILED. HAD TO USE THE EMERGENCY/PARKING BRAKE TO BRING THE TRUCK TO A STOP. VEHICLE IS NOT A SOUTHERN VEHICLE - WAS IN VERMONT FROM PURCHASE IN EARLY 2003 UNTIL MOVING TO VIRGINIA IN AUGUST OF 2013. *TR
YOU MUST TAKE ACTION ON THE GM BRAKE LINES IN THE EARLY 2000 TRUCKS. THE CORROSION IS NOT NORMAL COMPARED TO OTHER VEHICLES. EITHER THE METAL IS THINNER OR THERE IS SOMETHING IN THE METALLURGY ALLOWING INCREASE CORROSION. WITH THE WORST WINTER IN RECENT MEMORY, THESE BRAKE LINES WERE SUBJECTED TO MORE SALT THAN EVER. I REALIZE THAT THERE ARE TWO SETS OF BRAKE LINES AND IF ONE OF THEM FAILS THE VEHICLE STILL MAY STOP ALBEIT AT AN INCREASE DISTANCE. WHILE THIS MAY BE FINE FOR A SMALL CAR. THE VEHICLES WE ARE DEALING WITH ARE LARGE VEHICLES. THE BRAKE LINES ARE SUBJECTED TO THE MOST PRESSURE WHEN THE BEDS ARE LOADED AND/OR PULLING A TRAILER. THAT ALSO IS THE WORST TIME FOR THE BRAKE LINES TO FAIL. THESE VEHICLES ARE ALSO THE LEAST MANEUVERABLE IN CASE EVASIVE ACTION NEEDS TO BE TAKEN. ARE WE JUST WAITING FOR A FEW DEATHS FIRST?? *TR

A FIRE IN THE DASH BOARD IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN OUR BACK YARD DRIVE WAY. DASH BOARD AREA MELTED WHERE THE HEAD UNIT AND CIGARETTE LIGHTER IS LOCATED. BURNED THE HEAD LINER WHERE A COMPARTMENT WAS. THE WINDSHIELD CRACKED FROM THE INSIDE/OUTWARD. BURNED SPOTS ON THE SEATS FROM THE DASH BOARD BURNING. EVERYTHING IN THE FRONT OF THE CAB IS BLACK. ALL WINDOWS WERE UP AND TRUCK WAS LOCKED. FIRE HAPPENED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT WHEN WE WERE ALL ASLEEP. WE DROVE THE TRUCK ON 2/20/14, WITH NO PROBLEMS. I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD WHEN MY BRAKE PEDDLE WENT TO THE FLOOR, I HAD TO USE MY EMERGENCY BRAKE TO STOP MY VEHICLE. LUCKILY I SWERVED TO AVOID TRAFFIC IN FRONT OF ME AND WAS ABLE TO STOP SAFELY. I HAD IT REPAIRED AND THE TECHNICIAN NOTICED THE ENTIRE REAR BRAKE LINES WERE EXTREMELY RUSTED OUT AND THE SPOT JUST UNDER THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR WAS THE FIRST PART TO RUPTURE. *TR
DURING MAJOR SNOW FALL AFTER NEW YEAR 2014, UPON ARRIVING HOME FROM WORK, WITH MY WIFE AND ANOTHER PASSENGER, I ATTEMPTED TO STOP AND MY BRAKE PEDAL SUNK TO THE FLOOR, NOTHING, NO BRAKES. I NEARLY DROVE THROUGH GARAGE DOOR. I HAD TO CUT THE WHEEL AND PUNCH THE GAS TO PERFORM A "HALF DOUGHNUT" TO AVOID HITTING MY HOUSE. HAD THERE NOT BEEN SIGNIFIGANT SNOW ON THE GROUND, THIS MANEUVER WOULD HAVE BEEN IMPOSSIBLE. THE FOLLOWING DAY WHILE NAVIGATING VEHICLE INTO GARAGE, WE HAD AN INCIDENT , CAUSING MINOR DAMAGE TO TRUCK & GARAGE. UPON INSPECTION, I DISCOVERED THE STEEL BRAKE LINES WERE EXTREMELY FRAGILE DO TO RUST. 2 LINES FROM PROPORTIONING VALVE TO ABS UNIT, & 2 LINES FROM ABS UNIT TO FRONT WHEELS DETERIORATED UNDER BODY NEAR CHASIS. ONE OF THE LINES FROM PROP VALVE TO ABS FAILED, LEAKING BRAKE FLUID. I WENT TO ABELOFF GMC WHERE I WAS INFORMED ONLY LINES FROM PROP VALVE TO ABS WHERE AVAILABLE. I PURCHASED AND CHANGED THEM. HOWEVER, AS I SUSPECTED THE FRONT LINES WOULD LEAK DUE TO THE FACT THEY WOULD BE DISTURBED WHILE CHANGING PROP V. TO ABS LINES. THEY FAILED BEFORE I GOT THE TRUCK OUT OF THE GARAGE, CAUSING A MINOR ACCIDENT IN GARAGE . I THEN FOUND A COMPANY ONLINE, CLASSIC TUBE, WHICH PROVIDED ME WITH A KIT CONTAINING ALL BRAKE LINES MADE FROM STAINLESS STEEL. SO, NOT ONLY COULD WE HAVE QUITE POSSIBLY BEEN KILLED, BUT I NOW HAVE [2] EXTRA BRAKE LINES THAT COST ME $125.00 THAT I DON'T NEED. GM COULD AT LEAST HAD THE DECENCY TO MAKE ALL THE LINES AVAILEABLE. I ALSO DISCOVERED THAT THIS PROBLEM IS NOT UNCOMMON. HAD THESE BRAKES FAILED A FEW MINUTES EARLIER, SAY ON RTE 80 W IN PA, IT COULD HAVE BEEN TRAGIC FOR ME, MY WIFE ,MY PASSENGER, AND ANYONE IN THE WAY! *TR

BACKING OUT OF A PARKING SPACE I APPLIED THE BRAKES AND THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. I HIT A STEEL POLE CAUSING DAMAGE TO MY REAR BUMPER. I WAS PRETTY SURE I KNEW WHAT WAS WRONG. I INSPECTED THE TRUCK AND FOUND BRAKE FLUID DRIPPING FROM UNDER THE VEHICLE IN THE AREA OF THE DRIVERS DOOR. FURTHER INSPECTION SHOWED THE BRAKE LINES WERE VERY RUSTED WHICH I ATTRIBUTE TO THE BRAKE LINE FAILURE. *TR
I CROSS THE ROUTE 18 ON MASSACHUSETTS WHEN THE BRAKE IS COMPLETELY GONE ALMOST INVOLVED IN ACCIDENT. *TR
BRAKE LINE FAILURE DUE TO EXCESSIVE CORROSION OF THE LINE. AFTER REPLACING THE LINE MYSELF, I PERFORMED A TEST RUN AND YET ANOTHER LINE FAILED DUE TO THE CORROSION PROBLEM. THE ISSUE HAS BEEN ADDRESSED BY GENERAL MOTORS IN CANADA, BUT HAS NOT BEEN ADDRESSED IN THE US. I FEEL THAT TEN YEARS AND ONLY 84,000 MILES IS NOT AN ACCEPTABLE TIMEFRAME/MILEAGE TO BE EXPERIENCING BRAKE LINE CORROSION FAILURE IN THE STATE OF VIRGINIA. IN FACT THE ENTIRE UNDERCARRIAGE OF THE VEHICLE IS CORRODED FAR WORSE THAN MY 2000 HONDA CIVIC WHICH HAS 175,000 MILES ON IT. GENERAL MOTORS SHOULD BE FORCED TO ADDRESS THE CORROSION ISSUES WITH THE SIERRA PICKUP LINE IN THE US. *TR
VEHICLE GOES INTO REDUCED ENGINE POWER MODE AT INTERSTATE SPEEDS WITHOUT WARNING AND INCREASES RISK OF BEING REAR ENDED, DOES NOT HAVE ENOUGH POWER TO SAFELY GET THE VEHICLE OFF THE ROAD WHEN IN THE LEFT LANE WITH OTHER CARS BEHIND. MORE INSTANCES OF THIS SAME SCENARIO OVER THE PAST FEW MONTHS THAN I CAN COUNT. THROTTLE BODY HAS BEEN CLEANED. THERE ARE TOO MANY INTERNET FORUM POSTS DETAILING MANY DIFFERENT PARTS HAVING BEEN REPLACED BY DEALERSHIPS AND OTHER MECHANICS AND THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTING TO JUST START REPLACING PARTS BECAUSE THE COSTS TOO QUICKLY IS UNSUSTAINABLE. *TR

THE CONTACT DETERMINED THAT THE REAR BRAKE LINES WERE EXCESSIVELY CORRODED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT REPAIRED THE VEHICLE HIMSELF. HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT MADE AWARE OF FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 160,000.
I WROTE GM ON OCTOBER 26, 2013 ABOUT MY 2003 GMC SIERRA DURAMAX DIESEL 6.6L 6L THAT JUST RECENTLY STARTED BILLOWING BLUISH BLACK SMOKE CONSTANTLY FROM THE EXHAUST AND COSTING AN EXORBITANT AMOUNT OF MONEY IN GAS. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER (QUALITY BY DILORENZO IN ALBUQUERQUE, NEW MEXICO) AND THEY INFORMED ME THAT THERE WAS A BULLETIN ISSUED IN OCTOBER 2006 FOR LEAKING FUEL INJECTORS. THEY DIAGNOSED MY TRUCK WITH THE EXACT FUEL INJECTOR PROBLEM. THE TRUCK ONLY HAS 83,502 MILES ON IT AND I'VE BEEN INFORMED THAT THE NEXT TIME I TAKE IT FOR AN EMISSIONS TEST (A REQUIREMENT IN NEW MEXICO) IT WILL FAIL. I FINALLY SAVED UP ENOUGH MONEY TO GO AN OUTSIDE REPAIR SHOP ON JULY 15, 2014 TO GET MY FUEL INJECTORS REPLACED AND THE TOTAL CAME TO $4763.78. I FOUND OUT THAT THERE WERE TWO STRIPPED BOLTS INDICATING THAT THE FUEL INJECTORS WERE PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED (ADDITIONAL COST OF$12 EACH TO REPLACE THE 8 BOLTS). I CALLED THE ORIGINAL OWNER AND HE TOLD ME THAT THE INJECTORS WERE REPAIRED UNDER THE ORIGINAL BULLETIN (04039) IN JUNE 2005 AT TILLERY MOTORS IN BELEN NM. THEREFORE, THE FUEL INJECTORS WERE NEVER REALLY REPAIRED PROPERLY IN THE FIRST PLACE. I HAVE SPOKE TO ANOTHER WOMEN ([XXX]) AT THE GM CUSTOMER SERVICE CENTER. SHE IS AGAIN ELEVATING THIS ISSUE TO A SPECIALIST UNDER GM ID [XXX] FOR REIMBURSEMENT OF THE TOTAL COST (STANDARD 24-48 HOUR CALL BACK).
