I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK ON I-75 AND STARTED DETECTING A STRONG SMELL OF GASOLINE. I PULLED OVER AND INSPECTED THE VEHICLE. I FOUND THAT THE FUEL LINE HAD RUSTED AND WAS SPRAYING GAS EVERYWHERE. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION, I FOUND THAT ALL THE LINES FOR THE FUEL AND BRAKE SYSTEM WERE SEVERELY RUSTED AND WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED TO AVOID CATASTROPHIC FAILURE THAT COULD RESULT IN SERIOUS INJURIES TO MYSELF AND OTHERS ON THE HIGHWAY. I HAVE RESEARCHED AND FOUND THAT THERE HAVE BEEN THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS FILED, BUT NO ACTION TAKEN. AS AN ADDED NOTE...I BOUGHT THE TRUCK NEW, IT IS KEPT IN THE GARAGE MOST OF THE TIME, AND I DO NOT LIVE IN A STATE THAT IS KNOWN FOR HEAVY SNOW FALL OR SALT USAGE. I ALSO HAVE A 1965 MODEL CAR THAT HAS NEVER HAD THE FUEL LINES OR BRAKE LINES REPLACED.

THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL LINES WERE RUSTED, FRACTURED, AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 157,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL INJECTORS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED AFTER APPROXIMATELY 30,000 MILES AND THE VEHICLE WAS EMITTING SMOKE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED WITH NEW FUEL INJECTORS BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 209,000.

VEHICLE GOES INTO REDUCED ENGINE POWER MODE AT INTERSTATE SPEEDS WITHOUT WARNING AND INCREASES RISK OF BEING REAR ENDED, DOES NOT HAVE ENOUGH POWER TO SAFELY GET THE VEHICLE OFF THE ROAD WHEN IN THE LEFT LANE WITH OTHER CARS BEHIND. THERE ARE TOO MANY INTERNET FORUM POSTS DETAILING MANY DIFFERENT PARTS HAVING BEEN REPLACED BY DEALERSHIPS AND OTHER MECHANICS AND THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTING TO JUST START REPLACING PARTS BECAUSE THE COSTS TOO QUICKLY IS UNSUSTAINABLE. *TR
I WROTE GM ON OCTOBER 26, 2013 ABOUT MY 2003 GMC SIERRA DURAMAX DIESEL 6.6L 6L THAT JUST RECENTLY STARTED BILLOWING BLUISH BLACK SMOKE CONSTANTLY FROM THE EXHAUST AND COSTING AN EXORBITANT AMOUNT OF MONEY IN GAS. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER (QUALITY BY DILORENZO IN ALBUQUERQUE, NEW MEXICO) AND THEY INFORMED ME THAT THERE WAS A BULLETIN ISSUED IN OCTOBER 2006 FOR LEAKING FUEL INJECTORS. THEY DIAGNOSED MY TRUCK WITH THE EXACT FUEL INJECTOR PROBLEM. THE TRUCK ONLY HAS 83,502 MILES ON IT AND I'VE BEEN INFORMED THAT THE NEXT TIME I TAKE IT FOR AN EMISSIONS TEST (A REQUIREMENT IN NEW MEXICO) IT WILL FAIL. I FINALLY SAVED UP ENOUGH MONEY TO GO AN OUTSIDE REPAIR SHOP ON JULY 15, 2014 TO GET MY FUEL INJECTORS REPLACED AND THE TOTAL CAME TO $4763.78. I FOUND OUT THAT THERE WERE TWO STRIPPED BOLTS INDICATING THAT THE FUEL INJECTORS WERE PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED (ADDITIONAL COST OF$12 EACH TO REPLACE THE 8 BOLTS). I CALLED THE ORIGINAL OWNER AND HE TOLD ME THAT THE INJECTORS WERE REPAIRED UNDER THE ORIGINAL BULLETIN (04039) IN JUNE 2005 AT TILLERY MOTORS IN BELEN NM. THEREFORE, THE FUEL INJECTORS WERE NEVER REALLY REPAIRED PROPERLY IN THE FIRST PLACE. I HAVE SPOKE TO ANOTHER WOMEN ([XXX]) AT THE GM CUSTOMER SERVICE CENTER. SHE IS AGAIN ELEVATING THIS ISSUE TO A SPECIALIST UNDER GM ID [XXX] FOR REIMBURSEMENT OF THE TOTAL COST (STANDARD 24-48 HOUR CALL BACK). GMC APPARENTLY DID AN EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR THE ISSUE, BUT ONLY COVERED IT FOR 7 YEARS FROM TIME OF PURCHASE AND UP TO 200,000 MILES. TALKED TO LOCAL DEALER WHO DENIED THE SERVICE AND GM WONT REPLACE THE FUEL INJECTORS. *TR
2003 GMC SIERRA 2500HD THE INJECTORS WANT BAD WAS TOLD IT WAS THE FUEL HOUSING. SO CHANGED THAT NOW HAVING TO CHANGE INJECTORS. *TR
CHECK ENGINE LIGHT INVESTIGATED, AND CAUSE FOUND TO BE LOSS OF FUEL TANK PRESSURE DUE TO ROTTED OUT FUEL FILLER NECK. ORIGINAL PART MADE OF NON-CORROSION RESISTANT STEEL. OTHER CORROSION PROBLEMS WITH THIS VEHICLE HAVE INVOLVED BRAKE LINES. THE FIRST LINE WAS REPLACED IN 2007, WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS ONLY 4 YEARS OLD. A MORE EXTENSIVE REPLACEMENT OF CORRODED LINES WAS DONE IN 2008 OR 2009. THESE ARE SERIOUS SAFETY AND EMISSIONS RELATED PROBLEMS, AND THESE VEHICLES SHOULD BE RECALLED AS A RESULT OF THEM. OWNERS WHO HAVE PAID FOR REPAIRS IN THE PAST SHOULD BE COMPENSATED BY A REASONABLE AMOUNT. *TR

FUEL LINE CORROSION RESULTING IN MULTIPLE LEAKS IN PRESSURIZED FUEL LINE. FUEL DRIPPED CONTINUOUSLY ONTO THE TRANSMISSION, INCLUDING SOME ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS, AS WELL AS ONTO THE EXHAUST SYSTEM, CLEARLY REPRESENTING A FIRE HAZARD. SINCE JULY 3, 2009, THE FAILURE HAS BEEN RECURRING WHILE DRIVING 20 MPH. GM STATED THAT THEY DID NOT HAVE ANY PARTS AVAILABLE TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE DUE TO SO MANY CONSUMERS WHO WERE EXPERIENCING THE SAME ISSUE. IN ADDITION, THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS ACTIVATED AND SMOKE WAS NOTICED UNDERNEATH THE HOOD. THE CONTACT HAD BEEN DRIVING FOR SEVERAL MINUTES BEFORE NOTICING THE SMOKE. THE HOOD COULD NOT BE OPENED AND THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS CALLED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. TEN MINUTES LATER, THE VEHICLE WAS ENGULFED IN FLAMES AND DESTROYED. I OWN A 2003 GMC 3500 SIERRA WITH A DURAMAX DIESEL ENGINE. IT IS USED RECREATIONAL, AND HAS UNDER 30K MILES, BUT IS NOW 36 MONTHS OLD. THIS SUMMER 1/2 OF MY FUEL INJECTORS FAILED AND WERE REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY. I'M CONCERNED THERE THE REST OF THE INJECTORS WILL FAIL, AS HAS BEEN FREQUENTLY REPORTED BY OWNERS SHARING CONCERNS ON VARIOUS ONLINE FORUMS. I AM ADDITIONALLY CONCERNED THAT THIS FAILURE WILL OCCUR AFTER MY WARRANTY EXPIRES. I WOULD LIKE TO REQUEST THAT THE INJECTOR ISSUES BE RESEARCHED FOR 2003 DURAMAX ENGINES, AND THAT A RECALL BE ISSUED TO UPDATE VEHICLES WITH NEW INJECTORS THAT DON'T EXHIBIT THE SAME FLAWS/FAILURES, OR REQUEST THAT THE ENGINE WARRANTY BE EXTENDED TO 200,000 MILES AS WAS DONE ON THE 2001-02 MODELS.
