2011 GMC TERRAIN. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO VEHICLE TIRES DO NOT MATCH. *SMD
WE WERE TRAVELING NORTHBOUND ON US 84 IN OUR 2011 GMC TERRAIN SUV NEAR TESUQUE PUEBLO WHEN THE DRIVER'S SIDE FRONT ALLOY WHEEL DISINTEGRATED, SLAMMING OUR VEHICLE INTO THE CONCRETE BARRIER DIVIDING THE TRAFFIC. THE TIRE WAS FINE BUT THE WHEEL SPOKES WERE ALL BROKEN INTO PIECES. THE LOSE TIRE BOUNCED OVER THE BARRIER CROSSING TWO LANES OF ONCOMING TRAFFIC. NO ONE WAS INJURED, BUT IT COULD HAVE BEEN DISASTROUS FOR US AND OTHERS. THE TESUQUE TRIBAL POLICE ASKED US"TO DO SOMETHING" SO WE ARE ASKING YOUR AGENCY TO "DO SOMETHING" BEFORE SOMEONE IS SERIOUSLY INJURED IN THE FUTURE. THE TESUQUE TRIBAL POLICE STATION HAS THE REPORT (CASE [XXX]) AT ROUTE 42, BOX 360-T, SANTA FE, NM 87506 (TELEPHONE 505-988-9119; FAX 505-983-1883). PLEASE INVESTIGATE AND WARN ABOUT ALLOY WHEELS. WHILE DRIVING @ 55 CENTER LANE FREEWAY INDICATOR LIGHTS SHOWED LOSS OF TIRE PRESSURE ON PASSENGER REAR TIRE. MOVED TO SHOULDER OF FREEWAY AND SAW REAR TIRE HAD NUMEROUS CRACKS ON BOTH INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR SIDE WALLS OF TIRE COVERING TOTAL CIRCUMFERENCE OF TIRE; TIRE HAD BEGUN SMOKING. ASSISTED BY STATE SAFETY PATROL AND TECHNICIAN MADE COMMENTS AS TO HAVE "NEVER SEEN A TIRE SHRED IN THIS MANNER". TREAD HAD BEGUN TO SEPARATE FROM TIRES EDGE AND CRACKS WERE APPROX.. 3 INCH'S APART AND ABOUT 2 INCHES IN LENGTH. TIRE TAKEN TO DEALERSHIP FOR REVIEW AND REPLACEMENT; DEALERSHIP ALSO COMMENTED ON THE DAMAGE AS BEING EXTREMELY UNUSUAL. VEHICLE IS 2011, SINGLE DRIVER WITH APPROX. 31000 MILES. *TR
