WHILE TRAVELING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS THE ENGINE STOPPED WORKING / STALLED. SHIFTING TO NEUTRAL AND TRYING TO START THE VEHICLE WAS NOT SUCCESSFUL. THE VEHICLE WITHOUT THE ASSISTANCE OF POWER STEERING OR POWER BRAKES HAD TO BE CAREFULLY STOPPED . THIS WAS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS! AFTER LOOKING AT AN ON-LINE FORUM, THE VEHICLE WITH THE 8.1 LITER ENGIN HAD SOME VEHICLES RECALLED WITH A CAM LOBE SENSOR FAULT WHICH CAUSES THIS TO HAPPEN. AFTER CONTACTING THE DEALER, THEY TOLD ME THAT MY VEHICLE WAS NOT IN THIS RECALL. HOWEVER, WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS NEW, THEY HAD ALREADY REPLACE THE SAME PART WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS 3-5 MONTHS OLD. I QUESTIONED THEM AS TO THE REPLACEMENT PART AS THE FIRST PART ONLY CAUSED THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, NOT COMPLETELY DISABLING THE ENGINE. IT MAY BE THEY REPLACE THE FACTORY ORIGINAL PART WITH A PART WHICH WAS DEFECTIVE AND COVERED BY THE RECALL. IN EATHER CASE, A ENGINE ON HEAVY DUTY VEHICLE WHICH QUITS AND DISABLES THE NORMAL BRAKES AND STEERING IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS.
I WAS DRIVING ON THE EXPRESSWAY ON 04/01/2015 WHEN MY VEHICLE SUDDENLY LOST POWER NEARLY CAUSING A WRECK. I PULLED OVER AND THE REDUCED ENGINE POWER ERROR WAS ILLUMINATED. I TURNED OFF MY TRUCK AND RESTARTED IT, I MANAGED TO MAKE IT HOME WITHOUT OTHER INCIDENT. THE NEXT DAY, IT DID IT AGAIN WHILE ON THE WAY TO THE SHOP. MY MECHANIC NARROWED THE PROBLEM DOWN TO THE ACCELERATOR SENSOR LOCATED ON THE GAS PEDAL. IT WAS REPLACED, BUT I WAS CONCERNED ABOUT THE THROTTLE BODY AS WELL. WHILE DOING RESEARCH ON THIS, I RAN ACROSS A NUMBER OF PEOPLE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM IN NEWER VEHICLES. WHY HASN'T GM RECALLED THIS? DO PEOPLE HAVE TO GET HURT FIRST BEFORE ANYTHING IS DONE?
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 GMC YUKON. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH, THE ENGINE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING AND THE VEHICLE FAILED TO RESTART AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE AND WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 173,000.
MY 2001 GMC YUKON XL BURST INTO FLAMES WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY GIVING MYSELF AND MY 4 OTHER FAMILY MEMBERS SECONDS TO EXIT THE CAR IN TRAFFIC FOR NO KNOWN REASON AND SIGNAL OF FIRE. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 GMC YUKON XL 2500. THE CRANK CASE POSITION SENSOR SHUTS ON AND OFF INTERMITTENTLY WHICH CAUSED THE ENGINE TO STALL AND IT MAY NOT RESTART IMMEDIATELY. THE FAILURE IS RELATED TO NHTSA#07V521000 AND GM RECALL# 06083, ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. THE DEALER ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS. A DIFFERENT AUTHORIZED DEALER PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC TEST AND STATED THAT THE CRANK SHAFT POSITION SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE DEALER ALSO STATED THAT THE REPAIR COST WAS $800 AND IF THE FAILURE AFFECTED THE TRANSMISSION ADDITIONAL FEES WOULD BE INCLUDED. A LOCAL MECHANIC REPAIRED THE TRANSMISSION AT FOR LESS THAN $800. THE DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THERE WERE NO RELATED RECALLS FOR HER VIN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 67,315 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 80,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 GMC YUKON XL 1500. WHILE DRIVING 15 MPH, ANOTHER VEHICLE CRASHED INTO THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE OF THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE. THE ROAD CONDITIONS WERE DRY. THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE SPUN CLOCKWISE AND ROLLED ONTO THE DRIVER SIDE. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE DRIVER SUSTAINED BRUISES. THE ENGINE DID NOT SHUT OFF AND THE VEHICLE WAS SMOKING. THE POLICE HAD TO CLIMB INTO THE VEHICLE TO TURN OFF THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE STOPPED SMOKING. THE VEHICLE WAS DAMAGED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 97,000. DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE CHECK ENGINE AND REDUCED ENGINE POWER LIGHT ILLUMINATED FOLLOWED BY THE VEHICLE OPERATING AT A REDUCED SPEED. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY A DEALER WHO DETERMINED THE THROTTLE CONTROL MODULE AND APP SENSOR ASSEMBLY OF THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. AFTER THE INITIAL REPLACEMENT, THE PROBLEM PERSISTED. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY A DEALER WHO DETERMINED THE THROTTLE CONTROL MODULE AND APP SENSOR ASSEMBLY NEEDED REPLACED AGAIN. AFTERWARDS THE SECOND REPAIR, THE PROBLEM CONTINUED TO PERSIST. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALERTED.
I PURCHASED MY 2001 YUKON DENALI XL ON NOVEMBER 22, 2006 AND WHEN I WAS DRIVING IT HOME FROM THE DEALERSHIP IT DIED AT A RED LIGHT. IT STARTED RIGHT BACK UP SO I DIDN'T THINK MUCH ABOUT IT. THE VERY NEXT DAY THE VEHICLE DIED DURING ACCELERATION WHEN I WAS AT ABOUT 20 MPH. I HAD A HARD TIME RESTARTING THE VEHICLE. IT SPIT AND SPUTTERED. WHEN I DID GET IT STARTED I TRIED TO DRIVE AND WHEN I USED THE BRAKES IT WANTED TO DIE OR IT WOULD IDLE UP AND MAKE BRAKING DIFFICULT. I COULD NOT MAINTAIN A CONSTANT SPEED AND THE ENGINE KEPT DYING. THERE IS NO WAY I COULD DRIVE THIS VEHICLE WITHOUT CRASHING IT. AT THIS POINT I DECIDED THE VEHICLE IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. I HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE NEXT BUSINESS DAY, THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT. ITS OBVIOUS THERE IS A SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN THAT IS INTERMITTENT. IT IS NOW SITTING AT A DIFFERENT MECHANICS SHOP TRYING TO FIND THE PROBLEM. I HAVE READ SO MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THESE SIMILAR VEHICLES WITH SIMILAR PROBLEMS. HOWEVER, THEY HAVE BEEN BROKEN DOWN INTO DIFFERENT CATEGORIES LIKE YUKON, YUKON XL, YUKON DENALI, YUKON DENALI XL, OR JUST DENALI. THE COMPLAINTS ARE ALSO LISTED IN DIFFERENT CATEGORIES OF "COMPLAINT TYPE". NOBODY KNOWS WHAT "COMPLAINT TYPE" TO LIST IT UNDER BECAUSE THEY DON'T KNOW EXACTLY WHAT IS CAUSING IT. OBVIOUSLY THERE IS AN ISSUE WITH UNKNOWN ORIGIN AND RESOLUTION. AND WITH THE COMPLAINTS BEING BROKEN DOWN INTO DIFFERENT VEHICLE AND TYPE CATEGORIES, MAYBE IT ISN'T REALIZED THESE VEHICLES ARE ALL BUILT ON THE SAME PLATFORM AND HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY PROBLEM AND SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE. I CAN'T EVEN DRIVE MY NEW VEHICLE. *JB

GMC YUKON XL 2500, 8.1L ENGINE... PURCHASED TRUCK (2ND OWNER) 8/2005 FROM GMC DEALER. NOTICED FIRST OCCASION OF STALLING APP. 10/05 OR 11/05. DEALER SAID "COULDN'T REPRODUCE COMPLAINT" AND RELEASED THE VEHICLE. TRUCK DROVE OK FOR AWHILE AND BEGAN STALLING AGAIN, THIS TIME GM DEALER SAID "FUEL PUMP" ($900+). TRUCK CONTINUED TO STALL ON AND OFF FOR YEARS, EACH TIME NO ONE COULD FIND PROBLEM.. RECENTLY, SUMMER OF 09, IT HAS BECOME WORSE (MORE FREQUENT AND LONGER TIME TO RE-START) AND AFTER TWO INDEPENDENT DIAGNOSTIC TESTS BY TWO SEPARATE CERTIFIED MECHANICS, IT WAS DETERMINED TO BE THE CRANK POSITIONING SENSOR. I HAD ALREADY HEARD ABOUT THIS PROBLEM BUT SINCE MY VIN WASN'T INCLUDED IN THE RECALL (EVEN THOUGH ITS THE SAME YEAR, MODEL AND ENGINE) I AM BEING TOLD THAT THE DEALERSHIP WILL NOT COVER!!! I DON'T KNOW WHAT ELSE TO DO.. I CANT DRIVE THIS VEHICLE ANY LONGER BECAUSE IT STALLS MUCH MORE OFTEN AND WITHOUT ANY WARNING MEANING LOSS OF POWER STEERING, ETC AND RISK OF CRASH. MY 2001 XL 2500 HAS HAD PERIODIC PROBLEMS STARTING AND STALLING AT DIFFERENT TIMES. THE STARTING PROBLEM HAPPENS ABOUT 2 TIMES AS OFTEN AS THE STALLING PROBLEM. THEY DO NOT HAPPEN AT THE SAME TIME. USUALLY, IF IT DOESN'T FIRE RIGHT UP YOU HAVE TO WAIT ABOUT TWENTY SECONDS AND TRY AGAIN. IT USUALLY STARTS THE SECOND OR THIRD TIME. THE STALLING PROBLEM IS LESS DETECTABLE. IT HAS HAPPENED ABOUT 4 TIMES TOTAL. EACH TIME I WAS FORTUNATE TO BE GOING UNDER 30 MILES PER HOUR AND ABLE TO COMPENSATE FOR THE LOSS OF POWER. I DID NOT PURCHASE THIS VEHICLE AS NEW AND DO NOT KNOW IF PRIOR OWNER EXPERIENCED ANY PROBLEMS. IT HAD 30,000 MILES ON IT WHEN I PURCHASED IT IN JAN. 2002. *NM
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 GMC YUKON XL 2500. WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY STALLED AND LOST POWER STEERING. THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO RESTART THE VEHICLE, BUT IT TOOK A FEW MINUTES. HE DROVE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND THEY REPLACED THE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR AND THERE HAD BEEN NO FURTHER OCCURRENCES. AFTER THE REPAIR, HE DISCOVERED THE RECALL FOR THE SAME DEFECT FOR THE YUKON, BUT NOT FOR THE YUKON XL, EVEN THOUGH IT HAD THE SAME MOTOR. HE CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND THEY STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL, ALTHOUGH THE CONTACT FEELS THAT IT SHOULD BE INCLUDED. THE RECALL NUMBER WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 82,000.
2001 YUKON TRANSMISSION SEAL FAILED BECAUSE OF ROUGH SHIFTING, SERPENTINE DRIVE BELT SQUEAKS. VEHICLE LEAKED FUEL CONSUMER HAD TO GET A RIDE HOME WHILE FIRE DEPT CLEANED UP SPILL. *TS A SEAL FAILED AND COOLANT LEAKED INTO THE TRANSMISSION AND DESTROYED IT. THE RADIATOR SEAL FAILED. THE HEAD LIGHT LENS WAS LOOSE. *JB
ON THREE SEPARATE OCCASIONS MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND ALL THREE TIMES THE SAI (EMISSIONS) VALVES WERE RUSTED CAUSING THEM TO FAIL. THE DEALER TOLD ME SINCE THE VALVES ARE LOCATED DIRECTLY UNDER THE EXHAUST THE CONDENSATION FALLS ONTO THE THEM CAUSING THEM TO RUST. THEY ALSO SAID THERE IS NO PERMANENT FIX FOR THIS. *JB
THE SERPENTINE BELT HAS BEEN REPLACED TWICE AND THEN THE ALTERNATOR WAS REPLACED BECAUSE WHEN THE TRUCK IS STARTED IT MAKES A SQUEALING NOISE AND AFTER ALL THAT, IT STILL MAKES THE NOISE. *JB
VEHICLE HAD BEEN SITTING FOR ABOUT 2 HOURS AND CONSUMER DROVE VEHICLE LESS THAN A BLOCK AND TEMPERATURE GAUGE WAS SHOWING HOT. CONSUMER PULLED OVER, AND BLACK SMOKE WAS COMING FROM HOOD. CATALYTIC CONVERTER WAS RED HOT. TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER, AND DEALER STATED THAT FUEL WAS DUMPING IN CATALYTIC CONVERTER. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION.*AK
