TAKATA RECALL
BOTH DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED WITHOUT ANY ACCIDENT OR IMPACT. THE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED WHILE THE CAR WAS PARKED AND WHEN THE IGNITION KEY WAS TURNED.
ON 9/16/14, I GOT INTO MY CAR AND STARTED THE ENGINE. UPON STARTING THE ENGINE, BOTH AIRBAGS BLEW UP. THERE WAS NO ACCIDENT OR IMPACT, THEY JUST BLEW UP. THERE WAS NOBODY IN THE PASSENGER SEAT AND THAT ONE BLEW UP TOO. I REPORTED THIS INCIDENT TO GM AND THEY INVESTIGATED IT AND HAVE DENIED PAYING TO REPAIR DAMAGES. THEY SAY THERE WAS CORROSION IN THE AIRBAG SENSOR. NOWHERE IN THE OWNERS MANUAL DOES IT SAY THAT I AM RESPONSIBLE FOR MAINTAINING THESE CONNECTIONS. THIS IS A LIFE SAFETY DEVICE THAT SHOULD BE ASSEMBLED WITH THE HIGHEST LEVEL OF CARE A PRECISION. THIS IS NOT THE RESPONSIBILITY OR THE OWNER OR OPERATOR, IT IS FAULTY EQUIPMENT AND SHOULD BE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF GM. NOW I HAVE A CAR THAT I CANNOT DRIVE, IT HAS TWO BLOWN AIRBAGS. IT WOULD APPEAR THAT GM HAS HAD THIS PROBLEM ONGOING, THERE ARE LOTS OF COMPLAINTS OUT THERE AND IT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED. I FIND IT HARD TO BELIEVE THAT CORROSION COULD CAUSE DEPLOYMENT OF AIRBAGS AT ANY MOMENT. I COULD HAVE BEEN DRIVING WHEN THIS HAPPENED AND COULD HAVE CAUSED A SERIOUS ACCIDENT AND OR INJURY. *TR
THE SEAT BELTS IN MY 2003 GMC YUKON DENALI KEEP COMING UNBUCKLED. NO MATTER HOW MANY I REPLACE. ALSO I'VE HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THE TRACTION CONTROL COMING ON. IT'S ALMOST CAUSED A COUPLE OF ACCIDENTS. I'VE TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO THE GMC DEALERSHIP AND THEY'VE INFORMED ME THAT THEY'VE COME ACROSS THIS ISSUE A NUMBER OF TIMES AND HAVE NEVER FIXED THE ISSUE AND TO JUST TAP MY GAS PEDAL TWICE TO TAKE THE VEHICLE OUT OF THE TRACTION CONTROL. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 YUKON DENALI. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ENGINE WAS STARTED AND BOTH THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE FRONTAL AIR BAGS DEPLOY INADVERTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER TO HAVE A DIAGNOSTIC PERFORMED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT WAS NOT INJURED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 113,000.
DEFECT. RIGHT PASSENGER AIR BAG SIDE MODULE (FRONT SEAT) WAS DEFECTIVE AND REPLACED AT MY TOTAL COST OF $476.10 ON 4-20-07. THE DASHBOARD INDICATOR LIGHT ALERTED ME AROUND 4-2-08 THAT THE PROBLEM HAS RESURFACED (THE REPLACEMENT PART IS DEFECTIVE), AFTER ONLY 5,500 MILES OF VEHICLE USAGE. A PASSENGER IS IN THE SEAT FOR SOMEWHAT LESS THAN HALF OF THOSE MILES--A DEFECT AFTER LESS THAN A YEAR AND LESS THAN 2,300 MILES OF EQUIVALENT SERVICE. THE SPECIFIC NATURE OF THE PROBLEM WAS IDENTIFIED BY AN INDEPENDENT EXPERIENCED SERVICE TECHNICIAN. I SHOULD HAVE NEVER HAD THE FIRST PROBLEM, LET ALONE THE 2ND. *TR
I CAME UP ON AN ACCIDENT THAT WAS ALREADY HAPPENING AND HAD TO SLAM ON BRAKES. AT THAT TIME MY 2003 YUKON DENALI DID NOT STOP IN TIME AND I HIT ANOTHER CAR GOING AT LEAST 45 MILES AN HOUR IN THE REAR. MY WHOLE FRONT END WAS SMASHED IN AND THE PASSENGER HIT THE DASH BUT MY AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY AND THE ONSTAR STOPPED WORKING. *TR
I WAS SOLD A USED CAR IN FLORIDA WITH DEPLOYED AIRBAGS. I NEED HELP IN GETTING THIS PROBLEM CORRECTED. THE SHOP THAT FIXED THE CAR AS WELL AS THE USED CAR DEALER SAY THAT THEY DON'T HAVE TO DO ANYTHING AND I BEG TO DIFFER AS THEY REPRESENTED THE CAR AS BEING FIXED 100%. *JB

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SEAT BELT PERIODICALLY GOT N STUCK, AND ONE HAD TO UNBUCKLE IT AND TRY AGAIN. THIS FAILURE HAS BEEN HAPPENING FOR AT LEAST A YEAR. THE FAILURE OCCURRED 50 TIMES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WERE BOTH 10,0000.*AK
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A T-BONE COLLISION AT 10MPH AND THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THERE WAS NO PRE-BRAKING PRIOR TO IMPACT. ALTHOUGH THE OCCUPANTS WERE WEARING SEATBELTS, MINOR INJURIES WERE SUSTAINED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALED BY THE INSURANCE AGENCY. THE POLICE WERE ON THE SCENE AND A REPORT WAS TAKEN. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT SEEN BY A DEALER FOR INSPECTION.
DRIVER SIDE AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY IN COLLISION. *BF THE VEHICLE CRASHED INTO A CONCRETE BARRIER ON THE HIGHWAY. THE AIR BAG DEPLOYED AFTER IMPACT AND DID NOT EXPLODE OUTWARD, BUT FELL OUT OF IT'S ENCASEMENT IN THE STEERING WHEEL. *SC *JB
FRONT PASSENGER SEAT BELT WOULD NOT LOCK UP. *BF THE BELT LOCKED UP PRIOR TO THE VEHICLE MOVING OR BEING TAKEN OUT OF PARK. AT TIMES THE CONSUMER WAS UNABLE TO REACH TEMPERATURE KNOBS BECAUSE TO BELTS WOULD LOCK. *NM
CONSUMER STATED THAT THE DASHBOARD WAS PEELING. TOOK THE VEHICLE TO DEALER FOR REPAIRS. IN THE PROCESS, THE AIR BAGS WERE DAMAGED. THE REPAIRS WERE DONE BUT PROBLEM RECURRED. AIR BAGS WILL NOT DEPLOY. *AK
PASSENGER SAFETY BELT TO SHORT TO LOCK BELT. ( GMC QUICK FIX ADD A PIECE OF BELT MATERIAL WITH TWO BUCKLES) CHEAP GM FIX FOR A $35K SUV SECOND ROW REAR SEAT BELTS ARE NOT SUFFICIENTLY LONG TO ACCOMMODATE 2 ADULT PASSENGERS. THE TWO PROBLEMS WERE REPORTED TO THE GM DEALERSHIP AND FOUND THAT THERE IS NO KIND OF FIX FOR THE REAR SEAT PASSENGER.( WE WERE TOLD TO WAIT ). *JB
CONSUMER COMPLAINED ABOUT DRIVER'S SIDE AIR BAG. AIR BAG LIGHT CAME ON AND REMAINED ON. CONSUMER TOOK VEHICLE TO THE DEALER 5 TIMES. DEALER REPLACED THE AIR BAG TWICE, AND REPLACED THE COIL TO THE AIR BAG TWICE, AND RESET THE ERROR CODE 5 TIMES. HOWEVER, THE PROBLEM RECURRED. *AK *MR
WHILE DRIVING ON A RESIDENTIAL STREET CONSUMER FELL ASLEEP BEHIND THE WHEEL AND HIT ANOTHER VEHICLE ON THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE. SLIGHT INJURIES WERE SUSTAINED BY THE PASSENGERS OF THE OTHER VEHICLE. CONSUMER SUFFERED RIB CONTUSIONS EVEN THOUGH SEAT BELTS WERE WORN. NONE OF THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. CONSUMER WAS GIVEN A CITATION BY THE POLICE THAT ARRIVED ON THE SCENE.*AK
THE TENSION OF THE DRIVER SIDE BUILT-IN-SEAT SEATBELT CAUSES PAIN IN LEFT SHOULDER EVEN AFTER A SHORT DRIVE. I CHECKED THE TENSION IN ANOTHER GMC CAR AND IT APPEARS TO BE THE SAME. THE DEALERSHIP CANNOT MODIFY THE BELT TO REDUCE THE TENSION, AND GMC "CUSTOMER SERVICE" REFERS ME BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP. REQUESTS TO GET GMC'S TECHNICAL DEPARTMENT INVOLVED WERE DENIED - I WOULD HAVE TO GO TO THE DEALERSHIP.
THE SEAT BELTS IN MY 2003 YUKON XL DENALI SLOWLY TIGHTEN UP DURING OPERATION. WE NEED TO RELEASE THE BELT AND ALLOW IT TO RETRACT COMPLETLY AND THEN RELATCH IT. GMC HAS NO FIX FOR THE PROBLEM OTHER THAN OFFERING BELT EXTENTIONS.
