BOTH THE ABS AND THE SRS INDICATOR LIGHTS CAME ON. HAD DEALER CHECK AND WAS TOLD I NEED A NEW ABS ACCUMULATOR AND MODULATOR, IN ADDITION TO A NEW SRS CONTROLUNIT, ( AIR BAG SYSTEM). THESE ARE BOTH COST PROHIBITIVE, WERE VERY EXPENSIVE OPTIONAL SAFTEY FEATURES OFFERED AT THE TIME OF SALE. I HAVE LOOKED ON LINE AND THIS APPEARS TO BE A WIDE SPREAD PROBLEM WITH THE ACCORD 1994-1999 AND THE ODYSSEY, BOTH OF WHICH USE THE SAME ABS MODULATOR/ACCUMULATOR. UPON DIAGNOSIS, THE DEALER ASSURED ME THAT THIS WAS "NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR."

AN INTERNAL OIL LEAK CAUSED ENGINE FAILURE (REFER TO TSB 618908). *NLM
THE ANTI-LOCK MODULE NO LONGER WORKED ON THE VEHICLE. *JB
THE ENGINE MADE A KNOCKING NOISE. *JB THE ENGINE MADE A KNOCKING NOISE. CONSUMER WAS DRIVING ON FREEWAY AT 60 MPH IN THE MIDDLE LANE WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN A LOUD KNOCKING NOISE FROMT HE ENGINE STARTED . VEHICLE STARTED TO SLOW DOWN. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND CONSUMER WAS NOTIFIED THAT THE VEHICLE'S ENGINE WAS RUINED. *MR
SRS LIGHT CAME ON AND WILL NOT GO OUT. CAR WAS TAKEN TO DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS. DEALER SAYS SRS UNIT HAS INTERNAL FAILURE, (CODE 8-5) NEEDS REPLACING. UNIT FAILURE IS NOT COVERED BY MANUFACTURER. THERE ARE SEVERAL COMPLAINTS SIMILAR TO THIS ONE, WHY IS HONDA NOT RECALLING THIS SYSTEM?? RESEARCH SHOWS MANY PROBLEMS WITH AIR BAG SYSTEMS ON THIS 1996 MODEL.*JB
PROBLEMS WITH VEHICLE'S FANS BEING INOPERATIVE AND AN OIL LEAK. *MR THE CONSUMER WAS ADVISED AS A PRECAUTIONARY ACTION TO REPLACE THE TIMING BELT, WATER PUMP, ALL THE DRIVE BELTS, AND FRONT END WORK. THE CONSUMER THEN COMPLAINED THAT THE FANS DID NOT WORK PROPERLY. THE CONSUMER THAN WAS ADVISED THAT THE VEHICLE NEEDED A FRONT ENGINE MOUNT. THE CONSUMER NOTICED AN OIL LEAK. IN FACT, THERE WERE SEVERAL LEAKS AND THE VEHICLE NEEDED A NEW FAN, SHROUD, MOTOR, COOLANT, AND FUSE. AS A RESULT THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE REPEATEDLY APPROACH A DANGEROUS LEVEL (HAD TO MODIFY DRIVING HABITS), AND WAS UNABLE TO USE THE A/C DUE TO POSSIBLE OVERHEATING. THERE WERE TWO NEW LOCATIONS OF HIGH CONCENTRATION OF OIL; REAR MAIN OIL SEAL LEAK WHERE THE TRANSMISSION WAS REMOVED, AND THE BALANCE SHAFT LEAKED (UNDER WARRANTY) WHICH REQUIRED AN OIL PUMP, GASKETS, AND SEALS.*SCC *JB

THIS INCIDENT HAPPEN ON THE RAINY MORNING OF FEB 2003 AT THE DISCOUNT TIRE STORE AT 407 WEST BELL ROAD, PHOENIX, AZ 85023. I INQUIRED AT TWO OTHER DISCOUNT TIRE COMPANY STORES AND THEY DENIED HAVING ANY TIRE REGISTRATION FORMS FOR CONSUMERS, SO IT APPEARS THIS IS STANDARD TO THIS COMPANY. ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM MODULATOR FAILURE. LEAKING FLUID IN CLOSE PROXIMITY TO EXHAUST MANAFOLD. FIRE HAZARD. DEALER REPAIR PRICE QUOTED AT $1400 - $1600. THIS ABS MODULATOR APPEARS TO HAVE A MUCH HIGHER FAILURE RATE THAN EXPECTED, BASED ON THE NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS I'VE SEEN ON THE INTERNET. BASED ON THE EXCESSIVE REPAIR PRICE MANY PEOPLE WILL CHOSE TO IGNORE THE PROBLEM, OR CONTINUE TO ADD FLUID, WHICH WILL ONLY INCREASE THE FIRE HAZARD. OTHERS HAVE CHOSE TO BYPASS THE ABS, WHICH DEFEATS THE PURPOSE OF HAVING THE ABS SAFETY ENHANCEMENT IN THE FIRST PLACE
ON 2/10/03 OUR ABS LIGHT ON 1996 HONDA ACCORD CAME ON SOLID. HONDA OF OXNARD STATED THE PROBLEM WAS A LEAKY MODULATOR AND BOTH MODULATOR AND ACCUMULATOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. WE AUTHORIZED SERVICE AT A COST OF $1425.00. I WROTE AMERICAN HONDA MOTOR CO AND ASKED THEM TO PAY FOR THE REPLACEMENT OR SHARE IN THE COST SINCE I RESEARCHED MANY TSB'S ON NHTSA WEBSITE INDICATING A PROBLEM WITH THE ABS ON THE 1996 HONDA ACCORD. MY CONTENTION IS THAT THEY HAD PRIOR KNOWLEDGE OF DEFECTS IN THE ABS MODULATOR AND ACCUMULATOR AND ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE FAILURE OF THIS SYSTEM. ON 2/20/03 I RECEIVED A CALL FROM ANGIE OF AMERICAN HONDA CUSTOMER RELATIONS DENYING MY REQUEST.
WHILE DRIVING AND WITHOUT WARNING OIL IS LEAKING FROM THE VEHICLE AND CAUSING THE CONSUMER TO REFILL MORE THEN OFTEN. DEALER NOTIFIED. TS
WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE INTERMITTENTLY ABS LIGHT BECOME INOPERABLE, AND SOME NOISE WHEN THE VEHICLE START. DEALER NOTIFIED REPLACE THE ABS WHICH COST $1,000. CONSUMER STATES WITH 57,OOO MILES WAS TO PREMATURE TO REPLACE THE ABS. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER INFORMATION. TS
THE FRONT BALANCER SHAFT SEAL BLEW AND OIL GUSHED OUT OF THE ENGINE IN LESS THAN TEN MINUTES. MY WIIFE AND I HAD JUST MADE IT OFF THE INTERSTATE WHEN WE NOTICED THE SMELL OF OIL. UPON PARKING, WE SAW OIL POURING OUT OF ENGINE. NO WARNING LIGHTS WERE ON AND NO SMOKE CAME FROM THE ENGINE. I WAS TOLD BY MECHANIC THAT THE SEAL IS DEFECTIVE BUT HONDA DOESN'T HAVE A FULL RECALL AND WILL ONLY FIX THE SEAL WHEN IT BLOWS WHICH COULD CAUSE PERMANENT ENGINE DAMAGE IF THE ENGINE IS NOT STOPPED IMMEDIATELY. I'VE DONE RESEARCH ON THIS PROBLEM AND OTHERS HAVE THIS SAME PROBLEM IN THE US. IT SEEMS THE SEAL IS DEFINETLY DEFFECTIVE, BUT HONDA WON'T REPAIR IT UNTIL THE PROBLEM HAPPENS. OF COURSE, I WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM UNTIL THE SEAL BLEW. I WAS INFORMED BY HONDA AMERICA THAT I JUST MISSED THEIR REIMBURSEMENT DEADLINE (JANUARY 1, 2003) BECAUSE MY SEAL BLEW ON JANUARY 24, 2003. I THINK HONDA SHOULD CONTINUE TO PAY FOR THIS FAULTY SEAL REPAIR SINCE IT IS A DEFECT THEY ALLOWED IN THEIR VEHICLES.

WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE, THE ABS SYSTEM WAS LEAKING CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO HAVE EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCE. TS
MY 96 HONDA ACCORD IS NOT RESPONDING PROPERLY WHEN TREVELING AT LOW SPEEDS AND ARE REQUIRED TO MOVE THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL TO MAKE SPEED ADJUSTMENTS.A RECALL INFORMATION FROM NHTSA WEB SITE(NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER:99I002000) INDICATES THAT THE DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE THROTTLE CABLE. HOWEVER, BOTH AMERICAN HONDA AUTOMOBLE AND PHILADELPHIA HONDA DEALER TOLD ME THAT MY 96 HONDA ACCORD IS NOT AFFECTED. WHAT SHOULD I DO? IS NHTSA GIVING WRONG INFORMATION OR HONDA IS?
CONSUMER STATES BECAUSE SHE HAS BEEN UNABLE TO SATISFY HER RECALL NOTICE , ALL OF HER OIL LEAKED OUT OF HER AUTO, AND HER ENGINE SEIZED UP. IT STOPPED ON THE HIGHWAY, AND SHE HAD IT TOWED TO THE NEAREST HONDA DEALER. NO INJURIES. THE AUTO WAS ABLE TO ROLL OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY. CONSUMER STATES SHE HAS BEEN TO MORE THAT 2 PLACES AND HAS BEEN TOLD THAT THE PART IS ON BACK ORDER. TS
THE BALANCER SHAFT SEAL ON THE CAR HAS BLOWN. CAUSING THE OIL TO DRAIN OUT AT AN ALARMING RATE. TO FIX THE PROBLEM THE ENGINE MUST BE PULLED OUT TAKE APART THEN REPLACED. ALL OF THIS FOR A SEAL THAT COSTS NO MORE THAN 20 DOLLARS. MR

SRS DASH BOARD LIGHT HAD BEEN INTERMITTENLY STAYING ON AFTER ENGINE START UP. TURNING OFF AND ON ENGINE WOULD CAUSE LIGHT TO GO OFF. TWO DAYS AGO, LIGHT STAYED ON AND WILL NOT GO OFF, WHILE INGNITION IS ON. SYSTEM WAS SCANNED AND CODE INDICATES AIR BAG PASSIVE RESTRAINT CONTROLLER HAS FAILED. AIR BAG SYSTEM IS INOPERABLE. THE AIR BAG IN THIS VEHICLE HAS NEVER BEEN ACTIVATED. THIS APPEARS TO BE A SYSTEM DEFECT SINCE CONTROL UNIT HAS NEVER HAD TO BE ACTUATED. HONDA SHOULD BE ASKED TO COVER THIS ITEM BY RECALLING VEHICLE FOR THIS SAFETY DEFECT. MR
CONSUMER STATES THAT WHILE DRIVEN THE VEHICLE HAD BUCKLE THE SEAT BELT AND WAS ABLE TO PULL THE BCKLE OUT WITH OUT RELEASING THE LOCK.DEALER WAS CONTACTED.
I HAVE HAD MY CAR FOR 10 MONTHS WITH REPEATED TRIPS TO THE DEALER AND NUMEROUS CALLS TO THE POINT OF PURCHASE, WITH NO RESULTS, I HAVE BEEN GIVEN THE RUN-A-ROUND TO MANY TIMES TO COUNT. I HAVE A 1996 HONDA ACCORD AND IT HAS A HEAD GASKET PROBLEM AND THE ENGINE IS HAVING TO BE REBUILT. THE HEAD GASKET AND ENGINE ARE BADLY WATER DAMAGED AND WARPED, AND IT IS COSTING ME IN EXCESS OF $2,400.00 TO GET IT REPAIRED. I WAS TOLD THAT REPAIRS WERE MADE TO MY CAR BUT NEVER RECEIVED A WORK ORDER PROVING THAT SAID WORK WAS ACTUALLY DONE. I AM TRYING TO SEEK PROTECTION UNDER THE LEMON LAW SO ANY HELP YOU CAN GIVE ME IN THAT EFFORT WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!

DRIVER'S SEAT BELT WILL NOT RETRACT.*AK
I OWN A 1996 ACCORD EXL. ONE MORNING RECENTLY MY CAR STARTED HUMMING WHEN I TURNED IT ON AND WHEN THE HUMMING STOPPED MY ABS LIGHT CAME ON. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED IT AS ABS PUMP RUNNING EXCESSIVELY AND LEAKING MODULATOR. THE COST OF THE REPAIR TOTALLED $1,920.00. THE DEALER TOLD ME TO CONTACT HONDA AS THEY THOUGHT THAT THE ABS SHOULD NOT FAIL THIS EARLY. WHEN I CONTACTED AMERICAN HONDA I WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS OUTSIDE THEIR ASSISTANCE AS I HAD OVER 36,000 MILES ON MY CAR. IN ADDITION, THIS WAS A NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR PART LIKE BRAKE PADS. I WAS ALSO TOLD BY THE DEALER THAT THE FAULTY ABS PART WHICH PRIMARILY AFFECTS 94, 95 AND 96 MODELS HAS BEEN MODIFIED. I ALSO OWN A 1994 HONDA ACCORD EX AND A 1995 CIVIC EX. NOW I'M WORRIED ABOUT THOSE ABS PARTS FAILING TOO. *AK
I WAS PULLING INTO A PARKING SPACE AND SUDDENLY THE CAR SURGED FORWARD, I TRIED HITTING THE BRAKES BUT THEY WOULD NOT STOP, IT WAS HARD AS A ROCK. I TRIED TO STEER THE CAR BETWEEN 2 CARS AND THE CAR CONTINUE TO SURGE FORWARD AND I MANAGE TO HIT ANOTHER CAR, A TRUCKS REAR BUMPER, EVEN AFTER THIS THE CAR CONTINUED ON IT OWN COURSE UNTIL IT STOPPED ON ITS OWN. THIS WAS NOT THE FIRST TIME THIS HAPPENED, ONE OTHER TIME, I WAS ON THE FREEWAY DRIVING ABOUT 50 MPH AND THE CAR AGAIN SURGED FORWARD BUT THERE WERE NO CARS IN FRONT OF ME AND AGAIN, IT STOPPED ON ITS OWN.*AK
WE HAD OUR BATTERY REPLACED BY A NATIONAL AUTO CHAIN. WHEN COMPLETE, THE "SRS" WARNING LIGHT ACTIVATED. PURSUANT TO THE OWNERS MANUAL, WE TOOK IT TO THE LOCAL HONDA DEALER - CASEY, NEWPORT NEWS,VA. THEY INFORMED US IT REQUIRED A NEW CONTROL UNIT, THE COST $565.00. WE TOOK IT TO ANOTHER HONDA DEALER - WILLIAMSON, HAMPTON,VA. THEY ALSO INFORMED US IT REQUIRED A NEW CONTROL UNIT FOR $583.00 SOMEWHERE ALONG THE LINE IT WAS SAID IT WAS DUE TO "LOW VOLTAGE". AM I TO UNDERSTAND THAT EACH TIME A HONDA REQUIRES A BATTERY, IT WILL COST $583.00 + THE COST OF THE BATTERY. I CAN'T BELIEVE I'M THE FIRST TO COMPLAIN ABOUT THIS.*AK
AIR BAG LIGHT WILL COME ON. AFTER TAKING VEHICLE TO DEALER, DEALER NOTED THAT AIR BAGS MAY NOT DEPLOY.*AK
THE ABS LIGHT GOES ON AND OFF, AND I TOOK IT TO A HONDA REPAIR PLACE AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THE ABS MODULATOR/PUMP IS LEAKING. THEY INFORMED ME THAT THE PART ALONE WAS $1,200.00, AND WITH LABOR IT WOULD BE $1,400.00 TO REPLACE. THAT TOO ME SOUNDS ABSURD. I CONTACTED THE HONDA DEALER, AND THEY INFORMED ME THAT THIS WAS A REBUILT PART, AND HONDA DID NOT SUPPLY NEW PARTS TO REPLACE THIS FAULTY ABS MODULATOR. AT THIS POINT I'M VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH HONDA OF AMERICA, AND I HAVE FOUND NUMEROUS INDIVIDUALS ON THE WEB THAT HAVE THIS SAME PROBLEM WITH THEIR ABS MODULATORS LEAKING.... TO ME THIS IS JUST ANOTHER OPPORTUNITY FOR HONDA TO MAKE AN EXTRA BUCK ON ITS LOYAL CUSTOMERS.*AK

AS A RESULT, THE CAR DROVE OVER A SIDEWALK AND THROUGH THE FRONT WINDOW OF A BUSINESS ESTABLISHMENT CAUSING SERIOUS DAMAGE TO BOTH THE STORE AND MY VEHICLE. SOMEOME COULD HAVE BEEN SERIOUSLY INJURED. THE CAR HAS BEEN FIXED, BUT I AM VERY AFRAID TO DRIVE IT. THIS HAS BEEN VERY COSTLY FOR ME IN TERMS OF MY DEDUCTABLE AND THE INCREASE IN MY INSURANCE THIS WILL CAUSE. WHILE BACKING OUT VEHICLE STARTED TO ACCELERATE. THEN, VEHICLE STARTED TO DRIVE BACKWARDS AND STOPPED WHEN HITTING SIDE OF A HOUSE. CONTACTED DEALER. *AK
AT 65 MPH OIL LIGHT CAME ON SHORTLY AFTER ENGINE STALLED. DEALER DETERMINED THAT AN OIL SEAL BLEW. *AK
WHILE TRAVELING A LOW SPEED BOTH AIRBAGS DEPLOYED WITHOUT AN IMPACT TO VEHICLE. DEALERSHIP IS AWARE OF PROBLEM.*AK
CUSTOMER WAS DRIVING ON A ROUGH ROAD APPROXIMATELY 30MPH AND AIR BAG DEPLOYED FOR NO REASON. THE INSURANCE COMPANY WILL COVER THE DAMAGE TO THE CAR BUT NOT THE REPLACEMENT OF THE AIR BAGS. WE'RE WANTED TO KNOW IF THERE ARE ANY RECALLS FOR THE AIRBAGS AND IF THERE IS SOMEONE WE MAY CONTACT TO HELP OUR CUSTOMER?

ABS MODULATOR IS LEAKING FLUID FROM TOP AND LIGHT STAYS ON. CONSUMER CONFRONTED HONDA WITH A TSB, BUT HONDA WILL NOT RECOGNIZE THE PROBLEM.*AK

CAME OUT OF CHURCH AND NOTICED A LINE OF FLUID GOING TO CAR. THEN DISCOVERED THAT IT WAS DRAINING OIL LIKE CRAZY. I HAD IT TOWED AND FOUND THAT IT WAS A BALANCER SEAL THAT WENT BAD. WHEN I LEFT CHURCH I FOLLOWED THE LINE OF OIL ALL THE WAY HOME WHERE IT STARTED LEAKING WHEN I WAS IDLING WHILE WAITING FOR MY FAMILY TO GET INTO THE CAR. THERE WAS NO WARNINGS OR LIGHTS. THE OIL ALL GONE WHEN I DISCOVERED THE PROBLEM. AND NOW I AM STUCK WITH $608 BILL. BUT MOST OF ALL HOW DO I KNOW THAT MY ENGINE HAS NOT BEEN DAMAMGED? WHAT KIND OF PROBLEMS WILL THIS CAUSE ME TO HAVE IN THE FUTURE?*AK
