WHILE STOPPED AT A TRAFFICE LIGHT, THE OIL PRESSURE LIGHT STARTED FLASHING. I IMMEDIATELY PULLED INTO THE NEAREST BUSINESS I THOUGHT WOULD HAVE A MECHANIC, WHICH WAS A QUICK OIL CHANGE TYPE PLACE. OIL WAS POURING FROM MY ENGINE. SEALS AND BELTS HAD TO BE REPLACED, INCLUDING THE TIMING BELT SO THE REPAIR WAS OVER $500. HOWEVER, MY CAR WAS STILL LEAKING OIL (WHICH IT HAD NEVER DONE BEFORE). SOON AFTER I RECEIVED HONDA'S BALANCER SHAFT SEAL RECALL INFO IN THE MAIL. THE PROBLEM DESCRIBED SEEMED TO BE PRECISELY WHAT HAPPENED TO ME. I TOOK MY CAR TO AN AUTHORIZED HONDA DEALER TO HAVE THE REPAIR INSPECTED AND TO HAVE THE OIL LEAK CHECKED OUT. I LEFT WITH ANOTHER $250 BILL AND THE MECHANIC FELT THAT MY PROBLEM HAD NOT BEEN THE BALANCER SHAFT SEAL BECAUSE THE MECHANIC AT THE QUICK CHANGE PLACE INCORRECTLY LISTED A PART REPLACED AS AN OIL SEAL ON THE INVOICE. THE MECHANIC WHO DID THE ORIGINAL REPAIR TOLD ME THAT IT WAS DEFINITELY THE BAL SHAFT SEAL THAT HE HAD REPLACED AND OFFERED TO CONSULT WITH THE HONDA TECH. HONDA TECH WAS UNRESPONSIVE AND UNINTERESTED IN HEARING FROM THE MECHANIC. AFTER I SENT IN ALL THE DOCUMENTATION AND REQUEST FOR REIMBURSEMENT I RECENTLY RECEIVED MORE INFO FROM HONDA, WHICH INSTRUCTED ME TO AGAIN HAVE MY REPAIR INSPECTED BY A HONDA DEALER. AGAIN I LEFT WITH A $450 BILL IN ANOTHER ATTEMPT TO FIX THE PERSISTENT OIL LEAK. I HAVE SUBMITTED ALL THE INFO AND INVOICES TO HONDA AND AM WAITING ON REIMBURSEMENT.
SAME EXACT INCIDENT HAPPENED TO ANOTHER CAR I OWNED, HONDA ACCORD LX 97, AT THE SAME MILEAGE RANGE (59K-60K). ONLY WITH ACCORD 1996, I WAS FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO STOP ON TIME, AND WAS ABLE TO SAVE THE ENGINE. WHEREAS, IN THE ACCORD 97 SITUATION, I WAS TOO LATE, ALL OF THE OIL CAME OUT, AND ENGINE WAS IRREPARABLY DAMAGED. THE COST OF REPAIRS FOR ACCORD 97 WAS $2,000, IT REQUIRED A WHOLE NEW ENGINE + OIL PUMP, CHANGE OF SEALS AND BELTS. ACCORDING TO THE HONDA ACCORD MANUALS, MAINTENANCE (CHANGE OF TIMING BELTS, ETC.) ON THE CAR SHOULD BE DONE AT AROUND 90K MILES, EXCLUDING THE REGULAR OIL CHANGES. THEREFORE, BOTH INCIDENTS WERE NOT RELATED TO A DELAYED MAINTENANCE, BUT TO AN IRREGULAR FAILURE OF THE OIL PUMP AND THE OIL SEAL. BOTH CASES ARE IDENTICAL ON SIMILAR CARS AND DESERVE TO BE INVESTIGATED. *AK
DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD, GOING 35MPH, HIT SMALL BUMP IN ROAD AND BOTH AIRBAGS DEPLOYED, WINDSHIELD BROKE. *AK
BALNCER OIL SHAFT GAVE OUT AND CAR LEAKED ALL OIL OUT IMMEDIATELY AND ENGINE SEIZED AND WE HAD TO REPLCE ENGINE AT THE COST OF $2,860 (USED ENGINE) - HONDA HAS BEEN EXTREMELY UNCOOPERATIVE - RECEIVED RECALL NOTICE AND HAVE TRIED TO WORK WITH THEM TO OBTAIN REIMBURSEMENT AND HAVE BEEN WAITING SINCE NOVEMBER. *AK
ENGINE OIL SEAL BLOW-WHICH RESULTED IN THE LOSS OF OIL.*AK
WHILE TRAVELING AT APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, MY OIL LIGHT CAME ON. THANKFULLY I WAS JUST REACHING MY DESTINATION. I GOT OUT OF THE CAR AND SAW THAT OIL WAS POURING OUT OF IT! HAD I DRIVEN THIS WAY, ACCORDING TO MY MECHANIC, MY ENGINE WOULD HAVE BEEN DESTROYED. I HAD TO REPLACE ALL OF THE OIL-SOAKED BELTS, ETC DUE TO THIS PART FAILURE. I HAVE SEEN SPOKEN TO SEVERAL PEOPLE WHO HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM (ONE OF WHOSE CAR'S ENGINE DID "BLOW UP"). THE LOCAL HONDA DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THAT THIS WAS A COMMONLY KNOWN DEFECT IN THE SEAL. THIS PARTICULAR SEAL IS GENERALLY CHANGED AT AROUND 90,000 MILES WHEN THE TIMING BELT IS REPLACED. UNFORTUNATELY, THE DEALERSHIP SAYS, MANY SEALS BREAK 15-20 THOUSAND MILES PREMATURELY CAUSING MAJOR DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE. I HAVE BEEN TOLD THIS PARTICULAR PART MAY BE RECALLED IN THE NEAR FUTURE; I FEEL THIS WOULD BE AN APPROPRIATE ACTION FOR THIS SITUATION.
WHILE DRIVING, OIL LIGHT INDICATOR SUDDENLY STARTED FLASHING. PULLED OFF HIGHWAY AND PROCEEDED TO NEAREST GAS STATION. I TOLD THE GAS STATION MECHANIC THAT MY OIL LIGHT INDICATOR HAD SUDDENLY STARTED FLASHING. GAS STATION MECHANIC OPENED UP THE HOOD AND CHECKED THE OIL. DIPSTICK CAME UP DRY. ALL OIL HAD BEEN LOST. GAS STATION MECHANIC PROCEEDED TO PUT TWO QUARTS OF OIL IN VEHICLE. WHILE DOING THIS GAS STATION MECHANIC NOTICED THAT THERE WAS A MAJOR OIL LEAK. HE INFORMED ME THAT THERE HAD BEEN REPORTS OF A DEFECTIVE OIL SEAL IN 1996 HONDA ACCORDS AND HE ADVISED ME TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE NEAREST HONDA DEALERSHIP. AT THAT TIME, I CONTACTED MY INSURANCE COMPANY WHO PROVIDED TOWING SERVICES. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO ED MORSE HONDA ON US1 IN FORT LAUDERDALE, FLORIDA. I ADVISED MARK GREENE, SERVICE ATTENDANT AT ED MORSE, OF WHAT HAD HAPPENED. I ALSO TOLD HIM THAT THE GAS STATION MECHANIC HAD MENTIONED A DEFECTIVE OIL SEAL. I LEFT VEHICLE AT DEALERSHIP AND THEY PROMISED TO CALL WITH AN ESTIMATE. WHEN MR. GREEN CALLED BACK WITH THE ESTIMATE, HE INFORMED ME THAT THE OIL SEAL WOULD NOT BE COVERED BY HONDA. THE COST TO FIX THE OIL SEAL WAS $510. MR. GREENE ALSO RECOMMENDED REPLACING TIMING BELT AND WATER PUMP FOR AN ADDITIONAL $170.
CONSUMER WAS TRAVELING ABOUT 65MPH ON HIGHWAY AND HOOD LATCH POPPED OPEN, AND HOOD FLEW ON WINDSHIELD. WINDSHIELD WAS SHATTERED. CONSUMER NOTIFIED HONDA DEALERSHIP.*AK
1996 HONDA, ACCORD TAKEN TO TIRE CENTER FOR INSPECTION, AND INFORMED CONSUMER THAT THREE OF THE TIRES WERE EXPERIENCING TREAD SEPARATION. ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT, P185/65R15, DOT# UNAVAILABLE, AND THEY WOULD PRORATE THE DIFFERENCE. *AK THE TREAD SEPARATIONS OCCURD ON LEFT FRONT, RIGHT FRONT AND RIGHT REAR TIRES. *YH
OIL LEAK AT THE FRONT OF THE ENGINE CAUSED BY A DISLODGED SEAL ON THE FRONT BALANCER SHAFT
OIL INDICATOR LIGHT CAME ON WHILE DRIVING. LOST ALL OIL IN ENGINE.BALANCE SHAFT SEAL LEAK. TIMING BELT, OTHER BELTS REPLACED. $400 REPAIR
I WOULD LIKE TO TAKE A MOMENT OF YOUR TIME TO LET YOU KNOW ABOUT AN ACCIDENT THAT ALMOST OCCURRED YESTERDAY, 09/04/00, WITH MY 31 YEAR OLD WIFE, TONYA, AND MY 2 1/2 YEAR OLD SON, JACOB. THEY TRAVELED 300 MILES TO SPEND THE LABOR DAY WEEKEND WITH MY WIFE'S PARENTS. ON THE RETURN TRIP TONYA GOT APPROXIMATELY SEVEN MILES FROM HOME. SHE NOTICED THAT THE CAR WAS NOT DRIVING SMOOTHLY AND SUDDENLY THERE WAS A NOTICEABLE SHAKE TO THE FRONT OF THE CAR. SHE IMMEDIATELY PULLED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND TRIED TO OBSERVE ANY DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE THAT WOULD CAUSE IT TO DRIVE SO POORLY. SHE COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING AND SHE LIMPED THE CAR THE REMAINING SEVEN MILES TO THE HOUSE. WHEN TONYA ARRIVED SHE TOLD ME ABOUT THE PROBLEM WITH THE CAR. I LOOKED AT IT AND COULD NOT LOCATE THE SOURCE OF THE PROBLEM. I DROVE THE CAR APPROXIMATELY 30 FEET AT A VERY LOW SPEED. I COULD TELL THAT THE CAR WAS NOT OPERATING NORMALLY. I AGAIN LOOKED THE CAR OVER AND NOTICED THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE TIRE'S STEEL BELT HAD SEPARATED. THE TIRE, STILL HOLDING AIR PRESSURE AND BULGING, WAS THE OBVIOUS PROBLEM. I ALSO NOTED AT THIS TIME THAT THE BRAND WAS FIRESTONE, FIREHAWK SS10. (FURTHER INFO ON TIRES P195/60R15 87S M+S DOT VDV9 JBB 226). AFTER DOING SOME INVESTIGATING ABOUT THE FIRESTONE RECALL TIRES I HAVE LEARNED THAT THE SEPARATED TIRE ON MY 1996 HONDA ACCORD WAS MADE AT THE DECANTUR PLANT. TODAY I TOOK MY CAR TO THE LES SCHWAB TIRE CENTER, P.O. BOX 16388 MISSOULA MT 59808-6388 (406) 721-1770. I LEARNED UPON ARRIVING AT THE STORE THAT THE FIRESTONE TIRES THAT WERE RECALLED DID NOT INCLUDE THE TIRE THAT ALMOST CAUSED MY LIFE TO CHANGE. MY FAMILY IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING TO ME AND I PURCHASED FOUR NEW TOYO SPECTRUM ALL SEASON TIRES. THIS SET ME BACK $300.00 AND I AM NOT A RICH MAN. BALANCE SHAFT OIL SEAL FAILED RESULTING IN RAPID LOSS OF ENGINE OIL. *AK
VEHICLE CUTS OFF WHEN DECELERATING. VEHICLE WILL START BACK, BUT IS VERY HAZARDOUS IN TRAFFIC. DEALER HAS CHANGED IGINITION SWITCH. BUT BECAUSE PROBLEM IS SO INTERMITTENT, THEY CAN'T FIND A REMEDY. *AK
DRIVING ON INTERSTATE, OIL SEAL BLEW OUT, CAUSING RAPID LOSS OF OIL. VEHICLE TOWED. *AK
WAS TRAVELING 70MPH WHEN SUDDENLY ENGINE SEIZED UP, VEHICLE HAD STOPPED, LOST ALL POWER, AND OIL WAS SHOOTING OUT EVERY WHERE. HAD VEHICLE TOWED TO GARAGE. MECHANIC INDICATED THAT ENGINE HAD BLEWN UP, AND THAT WAS REASON FOR OIL LEAKING. WOULD REPLACE BLOWN ENGINE WITH A USED ENGINE. RECEIVED A PRODUCT RECALL LETTER IN MAIL REGARDING ENGINE RECALL. DO NOT HAVE OLD ENGINE.*AK
VEHICLE WILL NOT HOLD OIL. WHEN STARTING CAR AND PUTTING OIL IN, IT WILL LEAK RIGHT OUT. *AK
ABS MODULATER ORGINALLY FAILED AT 55,000 MILES AND WAS RESEALED AND REFAILED AND WAS TOTALLY REPLACED AT 67487.
ANTI-LOCK BRAKE (ABS) LIGHT CAME ON THE DASH PANEL A WEEK AGO. WHEN APPLYING BRAKES ABS SYSTEM DIDN'T ENGAGE AT ALL. AT FIRST, ABS WORKED INTERMITTENLTLY. CONSUMER TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALERSHIP. MECHANIC TOLD HIM THAT IT WOULD COST $1600. 85 TO REPAIR IT. ABS PUMP ACCUMULATOR, AND ABS MODULATOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *AK
RE-SUBMIT//STATE REPORTED INCORRECTLY. WHILE DRIVING OIL LIGHT INDICATOR CAME ON/LOST ALL OIL IN ENGINE. NO PRIOR WARNING. ABLE TO MAKE IT TO DEALER TOLD THAT BALANCE SHAFT SEAL POPPED OUT AND ALSO CAM SHAFT SEAL POPPED OUT AT SAME TIME. REQUIRED TO REPLACE BOTH SEALS AND ALL FLUIDS/ALL BELTS REPLACED -COST - $483.22. DEALER CLAIMED NO KNOWLEDGE OF PRIOR NOTIFICATION FROM MANUFACTURER OF PROBLEM OR OFFER TO CONTACT MANUFACTURER FOR PAYMENT AND COST RESPONSIBILITY. ABLE TO OBTAIN INFORMATION FROM THIS SITE THAT SERVICE BULLETINS ISSUED ON BOTH 1995/1996 HONDA ACCORDS WITH THIS PROBLEM. DISLODGED SEAL ON THE FRONT BALANCER SHAFT. DATED 10/96. BILL NOT PAID. CONTACTED MANUFACTURER AT FIRST ACKNOWLEDGED DEFECT AND REMEDY BUT REFUSES TO CONFIRM IN WRITING. CLIP IS NEEDED TO BE INSTALLED ON VEHICLE WHICH WILL ENABLE PROBLEM FROM OCCURRING AGAIN. CLIPS ARE BEING INSTALLED NOW AS PART OF MAINTENANCE WHEN BELTS ARE CHANGED AT 90,000 AND ABOVE BUT MANUFACTUER WILL NOT INSTALL CLIPS ON CARS WITHOUT CUSTOMER TAKING FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY. ONE DEALER WHOM I CONTACTED INDICATED THAT I SHOULD HAVE BEEN AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND BROUGHT CAR IN BEFORE WARRANTY EXPIRED. THIS PROBLEM EXISTS ON BOTH 1995 AND 1996 ACCORDS BUT THE MANUFACTURER REFUSES TO SUPPLY ME WITH COMPLETE SERVICE BULLETIN AND HAS TOLD ME THAT THEY ARE UNAWARE OF SUCH A BULLETIN IN EXISTENCE. I HOPE THAT THIS INFORMATION IN ABLE TO BE POSTED IN IT'S ENTIRETY SO THAT OTHERS WHO HAVE BEEN OR WILL EXPERIENCE THIS PROBLEM KNOW OF THE CONDITION AND THE MANFACTURER'S POSITION.I*AK

CLIP NEEDED TO BE INSTALLED TO AVOID RE-OCURRANCE.NHTSA SHOULD BE MADE AWARE THAT THESE CLIPS ARE BEING INSTALLED ON CARS WHEN BELTS ARE CHANGED FOR MASINTENANCE AT 90,000. BUT WHAT OF THE OWNERS WHERE THEIR ENGINES ARE DESTROYED BECAUSE HONDA REFUSES TO MAKE THE NECESSARY REPAIR BEFORE PROBLEM OCCURRS. THEY REFUSE TO SUPPLY ME WITH COMPLETE COPY OF SERVICE BULLETIN. I HAVE NOT PAID THE BILL AND WILL NOT BECAUSE THIS IS A DEFECTIVE PART AND MANUFACTURER HAS BEEN AWARE OF THIS EVEN ON 1995 MODELS. I HOPE THAT YOU CONSIDER POSTING THIS ENTIRE MESSAGE FOR OTHER OWNERS.
VEHICLE WAS LEAKING OIL DUE TO THE BALANCE SHAFT SEAL AND THE CAMSHAFT SEAL COMING OUT. DEALER HAS REPAIRED VEHICLE. *AK WHILE DRIVING OIL INDICATOR LIGHT CAME ON INDICATING LOSS OF OIL FROM ENGINE. ALL ALLEGEDLY HAD TO BE REPLACED INCLUDING PLACING BRACKET AT SEAL LOCATION TO PREVENT REOCURRANCE. COOLANT ALSO REPLACED. *YH
WHILE DRIVING-OIL INDICATOR LIGHT FLASHING. INDICATION OF LOSS OF ALL OIL. ABLE TO MAKE IT TO DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY HAD NO KNOWLEDGE OF WHY THIS WOULD HAPPEN. DISCOVERED THAT BALANCE SHAFT SEAL & CAM SHAFT HAD POPPED OUT. RESULTING IN LOSS OF ALL OIL IN ENGINE> THIS IS FRONT BALANCE SHAFT. ALL BELTS AND FLUIDS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF $483.22. WHICH HAS NOT BEEN PAID. QUESTIONED THE SERVICE MANAGER REGARDING THIS AS A FACTORY PROBLEM. TOLD NO. EVEN THOUGH SERVICE BULLETINS HAVE BEEN ISSUED REGARDING THIS PROBLEM FOR THE PAST 5 YEARS. A CLIP IN NEEDED TO BE PLACED ON THESE SHAFT SEALS TO PREVENT THE PROBLEM FROM CONTINUING TO OCCURR AGAIN. UNFORTUNATELY WHEN REVIEWING THE WORK ORDER THERE IS NO INDICATION THAT THE CLIP WAS APPLIED. CONTACTED MANUFACTURER SAID THEY KNEW A PROBLEM EXISTS BUT WOULD NOT ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY FOR COST AND POSSIBLE PERMANENT DAMAGE TO ENGINE VEHICLE. THEY REFUSED TO SUPPLY ME WITH THE COMPLETE BULLETIN REGARDING THE PROBLEM.ONE SERVICE MGR AT ANOTHERDEALERSHIP SAID THIS PROBLEM IS BEEN GOING ON FOR YEARS AND HONDA WILL NOT ACKNOWLEDGE FACTORY DEFECT. *AK
BOUGHT CAR USED IN JULY. TIRES LOOKED FINE AND SHOULD HAVE LASTED A LONG TIME. OWNER SAID TIRES WERE ONLY 6 MONTHS OLD. TWO FIRESTONE TIRES ON FRONT, TWO GOODYEAR TIRES ON BACK. FIRESTONE TIRES TWO MONTHS NEWER THAN GOODYEAR. TIRES LOOKED FINE WHEN PARKED, BUT WHEN STEERING WHEEL TURNED, THERE WAS NO TREAD ON THE INSIDE AND THE STEEL BELTS WERE SHOWING ALL THE WAY AROUND THE INSIDE OF BOTH FRONT TIRES. MY HUSBAND REFUSED TO LET ME DRIVE CAR UNLESS TIRES WERE REPLACED. BY THE TIME I DROVE MY CAR TO THE TIRE DEALER (APPROX 10 MILES), THE LEFT FRONT TIRE WAS COMPLETELY FLAT. I CALLED FIRESTONE WHILE I WAS HAVING NEW TIRES PUT ON, AND THEY WOULD NOT DISCUSS IT BECAUSE THESE WERE NOT THE TIRES INVOLVED IN THE RECALL. I AM NOT SO MUCH INTERESTED IN REIMBURSEMENT AS IN GETTING ADDITIONAL TIRES RECALLED BY FIRESTONE THAT THERE ARE OTHER TIRES THAT FIRESTONE HAS NOT RECALLED THAT ARE AS DANGEROUS AS THE ONES THEY DID RECALL. THE TWO GOODYEAR TIRES ON THE BACK WERE STILL OKAY, EVEN THOUGH THEY WERE TWO MONTHS OLDER THAN THE FIRESTONE. I WENT AHEAD AND REPLACED ALL FOUR TIRES.( DOT NUMBER: TIRE SIZE: 205/60/R15 )
WHILE DRIVING, OIL INDICATIOR LIGHT STARTED TO FALSHING. LOST ALL OIL IN ENGINE. BALANCE SHAFT SEAL BURST. TIMING BELT AND OTHER BELTS REPLACED. COST $700. ALSO, PASSENGER'S SIDE DOOR (FRONT & BACK) POWER LOCKS ARE INOP.
WHILE TRAVELING INTERMITTENTLY ABS INDICATOR LIGHT WOULD FLASH ON THROUGHOUT TRAVEL. DEALER HAS BEEN NOTIFIED. *AK CONSUMER STATES THAT THE ABS WAS REPAIRED ONCE WHILE STILL UNDER WARRANTY, THE WHOLE SYSTEM WAS LATER REPLACED. CONSUMER STATES VEHICLE HAD REPAIRS TO THE O-RING AND DEALER STATED SOMETHING ABOUT AIR IN THE SYSTEM. *JB
SRS FAILED DUE TO A FAULTY CONTROL UNIT.*MR THE CONSUMER REQUESTED POSSIBLE WARRANTY ASSISTANCE FOR HIS AUTOMOBILE, WHICH HAD TWO INCIDENTS WHERE THE RESTRAINT SYSTEM FAILED DUE TO A FAULTY CONTROL UNIT, THE DEALER REPLACED THE UNIT, BUT THE SAME PROBLEM OCCURRED AGAIN. IT'S HAS NOW BEEN DIAGNOSED AS A NON FUNCTIONING PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG. *CB *JB
SIDE WALL BLOWOUT OF PASSENGER FRONT TIRE. INSPECTION SHOWED TREAD SEPARATION AND BULGE ON PASSENGER REAR IN SAME LOCATION AS FAILURE ON FRONT TIRE. BOTH TIRES REPLACED AND DISCARDED.( DOT NUMBER: Y7J6 TIRE SIZE: P185/70R14 )

DIDN'T KNOW THAT OIL WAS LEAKING OUT FROM ENGINE UNTIL OIL LIGHT CAME ON. CHECKED OIL. WAS COMPLETELY EMPTY. PUT IN A QUART TO GET TO SERVICE STATION AND IT TO LEAKED OUT. LUCKY, THAT THERE WAS NO MAJOR DAMAGE TO ENGINE. VERY EXPENSIVE REPAIR. WAS TOLD BY MECHANIC THAT, THIS WAS THE 4TH ONE THEY FIXED SO FAR THIS YEAR AND THAT THERE IS A FIX TO PREVENT THIS FROM HAPPENING AND THAT ONLY DEALERS AND SERVICE STATIONS WERE NOTIFIED. WHY NOT THE OWNERS? FROM READING THE COMPLAINTS, IT SHOULD BE RECALLED FOR THIS SAFETY ISSUE. *AK

IN OCTOBER I RECEIVED WORD THAT THE CAR WAS BEING RECALLED FOR HE PROBLEM AND THAT I COULD SUBMIT FOR REIMBURSEMENT. WAS TOLD TO EXPECT PAYMENT IN 8 WEEKS. THAT WAS 8 MONTHS AGO. HONDA IS NOT PROCESSING THESE REIMBURSEMENTS IN EVEN A REMOTELY TIMELY MANNER. THEY CLAI THEY UNDERESTIMATED THE TIME INVOLED, BUT EVEN IF THEY PROCESS 5 A DAY THEY SHOULD BE MAILING OUT CHECKS. THEY ARE STONEWALLING, AND REFUSE TO COMMUNICATE WITH THE CONSUMER OVER THE MATER.*AK

OVER A PERIOD OF 30,000 MILES, 7 OUT OF 10 TIRES HAVE HAD SIDEWALL FAILURES INCLUDING STATIONARY AND MOVING BLOWOUTS. MANUFACTURER TELLS ME THAT THEY HAVE HAD NO REPORTED FAILURES FROM OTHERS. WHILE DRIVING ENGINE CHECK LIGHT STARTED FLASHING. CONSUMER EXITED FREEWAY, AND STOPPED AT A MECHANIC, AND VEHICLE WAS COMPLETELY OUT OF OIL, MECHANIC PUT IN 4 QUARTS OF OIL. CONSUMER DROVE A BLOCK AND PARKED VEHICLE. ANOTHER MECHANIC CHECKED IT, AND OIL SHOT OUT EVERYWHERE. TOOK TO MECHANIC AND THEY SAID IT WAS THE BALANCER SHAFT SEAL, WHICH IS PRONE TO SHRINKAGE IN THESE VEHICLES AND WILL SHOOT OUT OIL. *AK
THIS LATEST ELECTRICAL SYSTEM FAILURE HAS YET TO BE DIANOSED BY A MECHANIC; I AM GUESSING THE CAUSE IS THE SAME AS THE 2 PREVIOUS FAILURES. WHETHER MY GUESS IS CORRECT, THE BIKE'S ELECTRICAL SYSTEM FAILED COMPLETELY, CAUSING LOSS OF POWER WITH NO WARNING, WHILE I WAS RIDING IN THE MIDDLE (THIRD) LANE OF THE FREEWAY AT 65MPH. A HONDA TECHNICIAN WHO REPLACED A DEFECTIVE REGULATOR ON THIS BIKE BEFORE TOLD ME THE UNITS TENDED TO FAIL BECAUSE THEY WERE INTENDED FOR TOURING AND DIDN'T PERFORM WELL IN COMMUTER CONDITIONS. WE COMPLAINED ABOUT IT TO THE DEALER WHEN THE CAR WAS BEING REPAIRED, BUT WERE TOLD IT WAS A WEARABLE PART THAT WE WERE UNLUCKY ENOUGH TO HAVE GO. MY FATHER RECENTLY TOLD ME HE READ IN A LOCAL NEWSPAPER AUTOMOTIVE COLUMN THAT A WOMAN HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. I LOOKED UP THE NHTSA WEBSITE TO SEE IF THERE WERE ANY OTHERS WHO MAY HAVE HAD THE SAME COMPLAINT, AND WAS VERY SURPRISED TO FIND OUT THERE WERE QUITE A FEW. HAD MY WIFE BEEN DRIVING THE CAR ON THE HIGHWAY WITH MY 15 MONTH OLD SON, AND THE ENGINE FAILED DUE TO LOSS OF OIL, IT COULD HAVE BEEN A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. IF ENOUGH PEOPLE COMPLAIN OF THIS PROBLEM HOPEFULLY HONDA WILL ISSUE A RECALL; HOWEVER, WE ARE STILL OUT $653.80.*AK

DOOR LOCKS BROKEN-WHEN I LOCK OR UNLOCK MY VEHICLE IT MAKES AN EXTREMELY LOUD NOISE. *NLM
WHEN ACCELERATING, THE EXHAUST SYSTEM MAKES A LOUD VIBRATING NOISE, WHICH HONDA SERVICE ATTRIBUTES TO A PROBLEM WITH "TORQUE". SERVICE REP. CLAIMS IT HAPPENS OVER TIME, AND HONDA MAKES A "BUZZ KIT" FOR THE PROBLEM. IF IT IS ALREADY A KNOWN PROBLEM BY THE MANUFACTURER, THEN REPLACEMENT OR REPAIR SHOULD BE AT NO COST TO THE OWNER.
