I HAVE A 1997 HONDA ACCORD. I HAVE BEEN HAVING SERIOUS PROBLEMS WITH THE CAR TURNING OFF WHILE I AM DRIVING. IT LOOKS AS IF THE PROBLEM SHOULD HAVE BEEN COVERED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 02V120000 BUT WAS NOT. I CONSULTED THE HONDA DEALER AND THEY SAID THAT MY CAR WAS NOT COVERED BY THIS RECALL AND THEREFORE I MUST PAY FOR THE REPAIRS TO THE IGNITION SWITCH. WITH A POSSIBLE ONE MILLION CARS RECALLED, IT SEEMS AS IF THEY HAVE MISSED SOME. I HAVE ALSO FOUND OTHER PEOPLE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM AND FEEL THAT IT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED. THANKS FOR YOUR HELP. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING AT 40 MPH THE ENGINE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE IGNITION SWITCH HAD ALREADY BEEN REPLACED TWICE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP WHO PERFORMED DIAGNOSTIC TESTING AND DETERMINED THE IGNITION SWITCH WAS BAD AGAIN. THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE IGNITION SWITCH AGAIN. UPDATED 2/9/2006 - THE IGNITION SWITCH WAS ALSO RECALLED (02V120000) IN THE SUMMER 2002. THE DEALER INSTALLED AN IMPROVED IGNITION SWITCH BUT THAT ONE FAILED AS WELL. *NM

THE THROTTLE CABLE DID NOT RESPOND PROPERLY AT SLOW SPEED FOR 97 HONDA ACCORD AND RESULTED IN TO A COLLISION IN A PARKING. 2) AMERICAN HONDA DO NOT ACCEPT NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER : 99I002000. AS PER AMERICAN HONDA THIS IS NOT A VALID CAMPAIGN. THEY REFUSED TO HONOR THE REQUEST. PLEASE LET ME KNOW THE FURTHER COURSE OF ACTION THAT I NEED TO DO SO THAT THIS CAMPAIGN ID CAN BE INVESTIGATED AND VALIDATED BY HONDA. FOR A 97 HONDA ACCORD. 3) AS PER LETTER FROM AMERICAN HONDA, DATED JANUARY 24TH 2006 BEARING FILE # N012006-01-2300700, THEY DENIED THE CAMPAIGN ID 99I002000. 4) THIS RESULTED INTO A COLLISION IN PARKING AND REPORTED TO GEICO. *JB
AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT IS ON. DUE TO A MALFUNCTION. COMPANY REFUSES TO REPAIR. HONDA CO. THEY KNOW THAT BY LAW THEY NEED TO REPAIR THIS PROBLEM, BECAUSE IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE, THEY WANT CLIENTS TO REPAIR THEIR CARS AT OWNERS EXPENSE BREAKING THE LAW. THE NHTSA IS NOT ENFORCING THE LAW WHEN THEY KNOW HONDA CO HAS TO COVER THIS TYPE OF REPAIR. *JB
THE SRS LIGHT IN THE CONSUMER'S 1997 HONDA ACCORD ILLUMINATED. THE MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT THE AIR BAG FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *TS *NM
DT: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE PULLING INTO GARAGE THE VEHICLE SURGED AND WENT THROUGH THE GARAGE DOOR AND WENT OVER AN EMBANKMENT. THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS NOT ENGAGED AT THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENT. THE CONTACT'S FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE PEDAL BUT IT FAILED TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALED. NO POLICE REPORT WAS TAKEN. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED MINOR INJURIES. THERE HAS BEEN NO DETERMINATION ON THE CAUSE OF THE ACCIDENT. THERE WAS DAMAGE TO THE GARAGE DOOR AND PART OF THE HOUSE.*AK UPDATED 12/22/2005. *NM
SRS COMPUTER FAILED. AIR BAG SYSTEM WILL NOT OPERATE. DEALER ADVISED THAT THE DEFECT IS IN THE COMPUTER MODULE. *AK
DT: 1997 HONDA ACCORD. THE CONSUMER STATED THAT THE DRIVER'S SIDE FRONT LOWER BALL JOINT HAD COMPLETELY BROKE OFF WHILE IN MOTION, AT 30 MPH CAUSING THE CONSUMERS VEHICLE TO GO OFF OF THE ROAD. THIS DAMAGED THE UNDER CARRIAGE, BENT THE RIM AND DAMAGED THE TIRE AND AXLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A MECHANIC WHO STATED THAT THE PROBLEM WAS A CATASTROPHIC FAILURE OF THE BALL JOINTS. THE MECHANIC SAID THAT THE UPPER BALL JOINT MAY HAVE BEEN DAMAGED. HONDA STATED THAT THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THESE VEHICLES, BUT DID NOT INCLUDE THIS VEHICLE DUE TO VIN. THE CONSUMER SUSTAINED INJURIES, AS WELL AS NECK AND BACK PAIN. THIS HAPPENED ON OCTOBER 17, 2005. *AK (11/22/05) REFER TO RECALL CAMPAIGN #99V069000. *SC
SRS LIGHT ON 1997 HONDA ACCORD COMING ON. DIAGNOSED FOR $85. BATTERY REPLACED. A WEEK LATER IT CAME BACK ON AND STAYED ON. AFTER ANOTHER $85, TOLD THAT SRS SYSTEM IS BAD, AND IT WILL BE $830 TO REPLACE. I SEE ON THE INTERNET THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM, AND LEARN THAT THE REPLACEMENT PART IS UPGRADED. I BOUGHT THE HONDA BECAUSE OF ITS HIGH RELIABILITY AND WOULD APPRECIATE BEING REFUNDED BY HONDA. *JB
DT: 1997 HONDA ACCORD. DEALERSHIP WAS NOT HONORING EXTENDED WARRANTY. AMERICAN HONDA SENT THE CONSUMER CAMPAIGN I 98-081 FOR EXTENDED WARRANTY. WENT ONLINE FOR A RECALL THAT NHTSA HAD FOR LOWER BALL JOINTS. AMERICAN HONDA RAN CONSUMER'S VIN ON WEBSITE AND THEY SAID THAT THE LOWER BALL JOINTS DID NOT NEED TO BE REPLACED, BUT THEY WERE GOING TO REPLACE THE OIL. VEHICLE WOULD BE READY ON TOMORROW BY NOON. THE LOWER BALL JOINT WAS CONFIRMED AND THERE WAS NO ISSUE WITH THEM. THE ISSUE WAS FOR THE DEALERSHIP TO HONOR THE EXTENDED WARRANTY THAT HONDA ISSUED. THE SERVICE MANAGER SAID IT WAS NOT IN THEIR INTEREST TO LET OTHER CUSTOMERS KNOW ABOUT SAFETY NEEDS. *SC. *AK
NO FALIURE HAS OCCURED YET, THE FRAME IS RUSTED AT THE A ARM BY THE STEERING KNUCKLE. WHICH IS POTENTIALY DANGEROUS. *NM
1997 HONDA ACCORD LEFT FRONT TIRE CAME OFF. *TS THE VEHICLE SUSTAINED DAMAGE TO IT'S LEFT FRONT QUARTER PANEL. THE LUG NUTS HAD SHEARED OFF. ABOUT A MONTH PRIOR TO THIS ACCIDENT THE CONSUMER HAD ONE TIRE REPLACED AND THE WHEELS ROTATED (OHIO TRAFFIC CRASH REPORT). *NM
WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED VEHICLE RODE ROUGHLY AND PULLED TO THE RIGHT. HAD TAKEN VEHICLE TO DEALERSHIP, AND WAS INFORMED THAT TIRES WERE CAUSING THE PROBLEM. MECHANIC NOTICED THAT ALL 4 TIRES SEPARATED, BULGED, AND BROKE RADIAL BELTS. ON THE LEFT FRONT, THE RADIAL BELT WAS PUSHING THROUGH AND COULD BE SEEN. HAD THE TIRES REPLACED. TIRE SIZE 185/65R15, AND DOT # HHNXDXCX2600; DOT HHNXDXCX3000; DOT HHNXDXCX4400. *AK THIS PROBLEM WAS ALSO REPORTED TO MICHELIN. *BF *NM

AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION NEEDS REPLACING @ 85,000 MILES. ALL MILEAGE SERVICES AS NOTED IN MANUAL HAVE BEEN FOLLOWED. HONDA DEALER HAS DONE A MULTIPLE FLUSHING SERVICE -- PROBLEM STILL EXISTS.*AK

AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AT 80,000 MILES. SERVICE PERFORMED PRIOR TO NORMAL CYCLE PER OWNERS MANUAL AT 45,000 MILES. LOCAL HONDA CAR DEALER PERFORMED SERVICE NOTED ON A SERVICE BULLETIN (5 FLUSHINGS) AND DID NOT WORK. *JB
DT: THE SRS AIR BAG CONTROL MODULE FAILED, HOWEVER, THE LIGHT ILLUMINATED IN EARLY FEBRUARY 2005. BROUGHT VEHICLE TO DEALER, AND DEALER DIAGNOSED IT AS A DEFECTIVE CONTROL MODULE. CONSUMER STATED THIS WAS A COMMON PROBLEM. NO REPLACEMENT BECAUSE IT WOULD COST $800. *AK *JB
I HAVE A 1997 HONDA ACCORD, WITH BALL JOINT PROBLEMS. *BF THE CONSUMER WAS NOT AWARE OF THE BALL JOINT RECALL AND THE AIR CONDITION RECALL ON THE VEHICLE WHEN IT WAS SOLD TO HER. THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE TOWED BECAUSE THE BALL JOINT FAILED.*JB
THE VEHICLE HAD A DEFECTIVE AIR BAG MODULE WHICH CAUSED THE SRS LIGHT TO ILLUMINATE. *NM *TC *JB
FAULTY PAINT, CLEAR COAT COMING OFF THEREFORE LEADING TO SPOTS WITH FADING PAINT. *AK
CONSUMER NOTICED THAT THE SRS LIGHT APPEARED ON THE DASHBOARD AND REMAINED ON. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION, AND MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT THE CONTROL MODULE NEEDED TO BE RESET, AND RESET IT ON THREE DIFFERENT VISITS TO THE DEALERSHIP. HOWEVER, THE PROBLEM RECURRED, AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER. MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT THE CONTROL MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED.*AK
CONSUMER WAS DRIVING AT 30 MPH WHEN THE RIGHT FRONT PASSENGER WHEEL CAME OFF. VEHICLE WAS TOWED, AND IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE LOWER BALL JOINTS SEPARATED, AND THE AXLE CRACKED. MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THIS VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE BALL JOINT NHTSA RECALL 99V069000. *AK....AS ARESULT, OF BROKEN LOWER BALL JOINT RIGHT FRONT WHEEL DETACHED AND WAS LODGED UNDENEATH THE BODY OF THE VEHICLE. THE FRONT END WAS ON THE GROUND, AND FLUID WAS LEAKING ALL OVER THE ROAD. CONSUMER CALLED AAA AND VEHICLE WAS TOWED T A LOCAL MECHANIC, WHO IDENTIFIED THE PROBLEM AS A BROKEN RIGHT SIDE LOWER BALL JOINT. HOWEVER, IT WAS OBVIOUS TO THE MECHANIC THAT THIS WAS NOT A TYPICAL PROBLEN, AND WAS NOT THE RESULT OF NAURAL WEAR. THERE WAS A TECHNICAL SERVIC EBULLETIN WHICH APPLIED TO THIS VEHICLE. MECHANIC REPLACED LOWER BALL JOINT AND CRACKED AXLE. IN ADDITION, HAD THE BALL JOINT ON THE OTHER SIDE REPLACED, EVEN THOUGH IT SEEMED TO BE TIGHT, AS A PRECAUTION SO THAT THIS WOULD NOT HAPPEN AGAIN. *AK
A RECALL FOR THE IGNITION SWITCH WAS ISSUED. DEALER REFUSED TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE UNDER THE RECALL BECAUSE OF AN AFTER MARKET ANTI-THEFT DEVICE THAT WAS ADDED BY THE MANUFACTURER UPON DELIVERY OF VEHICLE TO CONSUMER. *AK
WHILE DRIVING 5 MPH, THE FRONT AIR BAGS INADVERTENTLY DEPLOYED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. *JB
CONSUMER NOTICED THAT THE SRS LIGHT APPEARED ON THE DASHBOARD AND REMAINED ON. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION, AND MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT THE CONTROL MODULE NEEDED TO BE RESET, AND RESET IT THREE TIMES. WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES AT NORMAL CONDITIONS ABS LIGHT AND BRAKE LIGHT CAME ON INTERMITTENTLY. CAUSING LOSS OF BRAKING. DEALERSHIP INDICATED TO CONSUMER ABS MODULE AND SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AT CONSUMER'S EXPENSES OF $2,200, BUT PROBLEM WAS NOT RESOLVED.*AK
I HAVE A 1997 HONDA ACCORD, MODEL LX-V6, VIN [XXX] WITH AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM PHILADELPHIA AND NEARING HOME WHEN AFTER STARTING FROM A STOP LIGHT IN D4 (AUTO) THE CAR VIBRATED VIGOROUSLY AND STALLED. (THE VIBRATION AND STALLING WAS LIKE WHAT HAPPENS WHEN OPERATING A MANUAL TRANSMISSION CAR AND RELEASING THE CLUTCH SUDDENLY.) I PULLED OVER AND STARTED THE ENGINE FROM PARK TO D4 AND AGAIN I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. I REPEATED WITH D2 AND THE CAR DID NOT STALL ALTHOUGH THE ENGINE WAS MAKING SOME NOISE. I DROVE THE CAR TO A NEARBY HONDA DEALER, PLANET HONDA IN UNION, NJ AND EXPLAINED THE PROBLEM. THE CAR WAS LEFT AT THE DEALER FOR 2 DAYS BUT THEY WERE UNABLE TO GIVE A REASON FOR THIS. THE NOISE IN THE ENGINE STILL APPEARS AND THE DEALER IS SUGGESTING REPLACING THE WHOLE TRANSMISSION. I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF SUBJECT VEHICLE. THE BRAKE SWITCH FAILED WITHOUT WARNING THRICE ON MY 1997 HONDA ACCORD EX WAGON [XXX] WITH 31000 MILES; THE VEHICLE HAS NO BRAKE LIGHTS AFTER BRAKE SWITCH FAILS. PREVIOUS IDENTICAL FAILURES WERE AT 22000 MILES ON 06/18/2002 AND 164K MILES ON 09/29/2000. MY DEALER SAYS THAT SUCH A FAILURE IS TYPICAL AFTER EACH 100-150K MILES ON THESE VEHICLES. WHEN THE BRAKE SWITCH FAILS, THE OPERATOR MUST USE THE "SHIFT LOCK RELEASE" (SLR) TO PUT THE CAR IN GEAR FROM THE PARK POSITION. PAGE 105 OF THE OWNS MANUAL MERELY STATES "IF YOU NEED TO USE THE SHIFT LOCK RELEASE, IT COULD MEAN YOUR CAR IS DEVELOPING A PROBLEM. HAVE THE CAR CHECKED BY YOUR HONDA DEALER." THERE IS NO MENTION THAT THE CAR MAY NOT HAVE BRAKE LIGHTS. THERE NO DASH INDICATOR NOTIFYING THE DRIVER THAT THERE ARE NO BRAKE LIGHTS: THERE IS NO WARNING OF ANY SORT THAT ALL BRAKE LIGHTS ARE OUT. (THE "BRAKE LAMP" FAILURE DASH LAMP ONLY TELLS IF A BULB IS OUT IF THE BRAKE SWITCH IS WORKING.) THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS CONDITION THAT COULD RESULT IN FATAL ACCIDENTS. IN THIS LASTEST BRAKE SWITCH FAILURE, I WAS 500 MILES FROM HOME AND OPERATED THE CAR FOR THE NEXT DAY UNAWARE OF THIS CONDITION UNTIL I RETURNED HOME AND WENT TO MY LOCAL DEALER TO HAVE THE PROBLEM FIXED BY REPLACING THE BRAKE SWITCH AT A COST OF ABOUT $127. I RECENTLY ABOUT 1 1/2 MONTHS AGO HAD MY BRAKE PADS REPLACED, 2 DAYS AGO THE ABS AND BRAKE LIGHT HAS COME ON AND WILL NOT GO OFF, I HAVE DONE ALL THE CHECKS AND EVERYTHING IS FINE...ESTIMATED REPAIR RUNS FROM $900-$1500..I HAVE ALSO NOTICED SEVERAL COMPLAINTS FROM OTHER HONDA OWNERS FOR THE SAME THING I FEEL THAT HONDA NEEDS TO DO A RECALL AND GET THIS ISSUE CORRECTED..IT SHOULD NOT BE PLACED ON THE CONSUMER HONDA NEEDS TO STAND UP AND TAKE OWNERSHIP OF THE FACT THEY HAVE VEHICLES WITH DEFECTIVE PARTS. *JB
THE CONSUMER HAD THE IGNITION SWITCH REPLACED ON A RECALL NUMBER 99I-0020000 ON JANUARY 20. THE SAME PROBLEM STARTED AGAIN IN JUNE. VEHICLE STALLED WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT 65 MPH. THE CONSUMER WAS ALMOST STRUCK BY ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED, AND THEY STATED THAT THE PARTS HAD ALREADY BEEN REPLACED TWICE, AND THERE HAS TO BE SOMETHING ELSE WRONG. *LA
THE DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS FAILED WITHOUT WARNING. A RECALL(98V231000) WAS ISSUED, HOWEVER THE VEHICLE IDENTIFICATIONNUMBER WAS OUTSIDE OF THE REMEDY SCOPE. PLEASE PROVIDE ADDITIONAL INFORMATION. *JB
AS WITH THE OTHERS SRS LIGHT CAME ON IN 2004 WHEN I PURCHASED THE CAR FROM A PRIVATE OWNER. BEFORE I PURCHASED THE CAR HE TOOK IT TO A HONDA DEALER FOR A COMPLETE INSPECTION AND NOTHING WAS NOTED THAT THE SRS LIGHT WAS ON. I TOOK IT INTO A HONDA DEALER AND THEY DIDN'T RUN ANY CHECKS THEY JUST TOLD ME THAT IT WAS GOING TO COST $1200.00 TO FIX. THEY TOOK THE CAR TO DO SOME OTHER MINOR REPAIRS AND WHEN I PICKED IT UP THE LIGHT WAS OFF. IT CAME BACK ON WITHIN MONTHS OF BEING OFF. IT HAS BEEN ON TO THIS DAY. IT SOUNDS FISHY TO ME THAT THEY CAN DIAGNOSE BY THE LAMP ON WHEN I READ THAT IT COULD BE A NUMBER OF LESS EXPENSIVE FIXES. *TR
THE COMPLAINT IS REGARDING THE SRS MODULE. THE UNIT MALFUNCTIONED, GIVING A RED DASHBOARD ALARM LIGHT. THE LOCAL HONDA DEALER ATTEMPTED TO RESET THE TROUBLE LIGHT, BUT COULDN'T. THE DEALER INDICATED THE PART NUMBER ON MY SERVICE INVOICE AS HONDA PART # 06772-SV4-A71 FOR A 1997 HONDA ACCORD. I QUERIED SEVERAL SALVAGE YARDS FOR A USED PART AS THE OEM PART WAS IN EXCESS OF $500. I WAS SENT THE SRS MODULE FROM A SALVAGE YARD ONLY TO DISCOVER THAT THE SRS MODULE WAS INDEED FROM A 1997 HONDA, HOWEVER, MY SRS MODULE (THE ORIGINAL DEFECTIVE SRS MODULE) WAS FROM A 1996 HONDA.OBVIOUSLY, I PURCHASED A NEW 1997 HONDA WITH A 1996 ELECTRONIC PART. THIS PART WAS OR COULD HAVE BEEN ON THE SHELF FOR ABOUT 2 YEARS BEFORE IT WAS INSTALLED IN MY VEHICLE. MY SRS PART NUMBER TAKEN FROM MY VEHICLE HAS PART # MODEL 77960-SV4-A93. WHAT IS A 1996 PART DOING IN MY "NEW" 1997 VEHICLE? MOREOVER, THIS IS A CRITICAL SAFETY ISSUE THAT IS A DIRECT REFLECTION ON LIFE OR DEATH..............NAMELY MINE AND MY FAMILY. ELECTRONIC PARTS ARE NOT LIKE ENGINE PARTS THAT HAVE INDEFINITE SHELF LIFE. A CRANK SHAFT CAN SIT ON A SHELF FOR 30 YEARS AND STILL WORK PROPERLY WHEN INSTALLED. S.R.S LIGHT MALFUNCTING ON 97 HONDA ACCORD AND HONDA MOTOR COMPANY REFUSES TO ACKNOWDLEDGE IT HAS A PROBLEM WITH THIS SYSTEM. ARTICLES ON THE INTERNET REPORT THAT HONDA AIRBAGS AT TIMES DO NOT DEPLOY WHEN INVOLVED IN ACCIDENTS WHERE THEY SHOULD HAVE. HONDA MOTOR COMPANY STATES IN THE OWNERS MANUAL THAT THIS SYSTEM DOES NOT REQUIRE MAINTENANCE AND THAT BE CHECKED IN 10 YEARS. I FEEL THE THE HONDA MOTOR COMPANY SHOULD HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THIS PROBLEM AND MADE LIABLE TO REPAIR THIS SAFETY PROBLEM WHEN CONTACTED. *JB
CONSUMER WAS ABLE TO TAKE THE KEY OUT OF THE IGNITION SWITCH WITHOUT THE VEHICLE BEING IN PARK. DEALERSHIP WAS NOTIFIED, BUT DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. *AK
THIS IS A GENERAL COMPLAINT FOR THE FRONT SEAT BELT BUCKLES USED ON A WIDE VARIETY OF HONDA VEHICLES OVER MULTIPLE PRODUCTION YEARS BEING ABLE TO UNLATCH DURING A COLLISION. TO KEEP THIS COMPLAINT FORM BRIEF, ONLY THE MAIN TOPICS WILL BE DISCUSSED. THE DEFECT CONSISTS OF THE SEATBELT FAILING TO FULLY LATCH IN PLACE IF A SMALL AMOUNT OF A BEVERAGE (USUALLY SODA POP) IS SPILLED INTO THE SEATBELT HOUSING. AFTER DRYING, THE BEVERAGE RESIDUE BECOMES STICKY AND THE DESIGN OF THE SEATBELT BUCKLE PREVENTS THE BUCKLE FROM LATCHING SECURELY. THE FAILURE MODE CAN BE EITHER THE SEATBELT NOT LATCHING AT ALL OR THE BUCKLE GIVING A 'FALSE LATCH' CONDITION MEANING THAT THE SEATBELT TONGUE CLICKS AND SEEMS TO HOLD IN PLACE NORMALLY TO THE OCCUPANT BUT IF PULLED FIRMLY IT WILL RELEASE. OBVIOUSLY, THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN TO OCCUPANTS. HONDA HAS KNOWN ABOUT THIS DEFECT AND EVEN HAS RETURNED WARRANTY PARTS (ESTIMATE OVER 1000 FAILURES HAVE BEEN RETURNED BY CUSTOMERS) THAT IT HAS CATEGORIZED AS BSR (BROWN STICKY RESIDUE). THIS PROBLEM GOES BACK AT LEAST AS FAR AS 1994 (WITH THE 1994 STYLE DESIGN BEING ESPECIALLY PRONE TO THIS FAILURE). AS STATED, HONDA HAS RECEIVED MANY FAILURES OF THIS TYPE BACK BUT HAS TAKEN NO ACTION TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. IT IS UNKNOWN HOW MANY PEOPLE MAY HAVE BEEN WEARING THEIR SEAT BELT BUT WHEN IN A COLLISION IT UNLATCHED AND ALLOWED THEM TO BE INJURED. FURTHERMORE, WITH HONDA PLACING A CUPHOLDER JUST INCHES AWAY FROM THE SEATBELT BUCKLE (AND WITH THE BUCKLE DESIGNED IN A FUNNEL SHAPE), IT IS OBVIOUS THAT HONDA KNEW BEVERAGES WOULD BE IN CLOSE PROXIMITY TO THE BUCKLE. THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS PROBLEM AND I HOPE THAT AN INVESTIGATION WILL BE CONDUCTED TO HELP SAVE LIVES. FORCING HONDA TO PRESENT THE INFORMATION ABOUT THE WARRANTY CLAIMS IT HAS RECEIVED FOR SEAT BELT BUCKLES OVER THE PAST SEVERAL YEARS WOULD SHOW THAT HONDA HAS KNOWN OF THE DEFECT BUT HAS TAKEN NO STEPS TO CORRECT IT OR INFORM ITS CUSTOMERS OF THE DANGER. *AK
WHILE DRIVING IN INCLEMENT WEATHER THE BRAKES FAILED, RESULTING IN A COLLISION. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION, AND MECHANIC WAS NOT ABLE TO RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. *AK

THE AIR BAG MODULE FAILED CAUSING THE SENSOR LIGHT TO STAY ON. THE CONSUMER WAS CONCERNED THAT THE AIR BAG WILL NOT DEPLOY UPON IMPACT. *AK *SC THE VEHICLE HAD AN ENGINE OIL LEAK, THE DEALER REPLACED THE VALVE COVER GASKET. *JB
THROTTLE CABLE STUCK WHILE PARKING AT WORK. MOTOR REVVED UP AND CAR JUMPED OVER MEDIAN AND STRUCK PARKED CAR ON OTHER SIDE OF MEDIAN. I WAS BRAKEING ALL THE TIME. CAR CONTINUED REVVING AFTER CRASH UNTIL MOTOR TURNED OFF.*AK
DRIVER'S 2 YEAR OLD CHILD IS ABLE TO GET OUT OF THE SAFETY HARNESS BECAUSE CHILD IS NOT PROPERLY RESTRAINED. *AK
MY SRS HAS COME ON FOR THE THIRD TIME IN MY CAR. THE DEALER TOLD ME WHILE THE SRS LIGHT IS ON, THE AIR BAGS WON'T DEPLOY IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT. THE FIRST TWO TIMES THIS HAS HAPPEN, THE DEALER RESET THE LIGHT. THEY TOLD ME IT WOULD COST $800 TO FIX. I DON'T HAVE $800 SITTING AROUND, THEREFORE I HAD THEM RESET THE LIGHT. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN HONDA NEEDS TO ADDRESS. I BOUGHT A CAR WITH AIR BAGS, AND RIGHT NOW MY AIR BAGS WON'T DEPLOY. IF THE SEATBELTS IN MY CAR ARE COVERED UNDER A LIFETIME WARRANTY THEN WHY AREN'T THE AIR BAGS (IT'S ALL PART OF THE SRS). I HAVE DONE ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO THE CAR TO CAUSE THIS. I DON'T FEEL I SHOULD HAVE TO SACRIFICE MY LIFE AS WELL AS ANY OF MY PASSENGER'S LIVES BECAUSE I DON'T HAVE $800 TO FIX HONDA'S PROBLEM. A COUPLE OF MONTHS BACK I READ ABOUT A RECALL ON VARIOUS HONDA AND ACURA VEHICLES WITH REGARD TO AN IGNITION SWITCH PROBLEM IN CONSUMER REPORTS. THE RECALL AFFECTED SOME 19'97 MODELS, BUT 1998 AND NEWER ACCORDS. I OWN A '97 ACCORD THAT IS EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM. I CONTACTED A LOCAL DEALER AND AFTER ALMOST 3 WEEKS OF AGGRAVATING PHONE CALLS REDIRECTING ME TO EVERYONE FROM THE CORPORATE OFFICE TO THE JANITOR, I WAS DENIED INCLUSION IN THE RECALL. SOME OF THE EXCUSES WERE THAT MY VEHICLE HAS TOO MANY MILES ON IT TO BE INCLUDED, THAT I DON'T MAINTAIN A SERVICE RELATIONSHIP WITH ANY PARTICULAR DEALER, AND THAT IT MAY JUST BE MY KEY HAS WORN OUT (BOTH OF THEM AT THE SAME TIME?). I WAS WONDERING IF IT IS CUSTOMARY TO MAKE SUCH ARBITRARY DECISIONS WHEN DETERMINING INCLUSION IN A SAFETY RECALL. ALL THOSE FACTORS LISTED DO NOT CHANGE THE FACT THAT MY CAR CAN ROLL AWAY AFTER I REMOVE MY KEY. *AK

AS OTHERS HAVE STATED, THE SRS LIGHT RECENTLY CAME ON FOR NO APPARENT REASON. MY 97 ACCORD LX WAGON HAS 72000 MILES. THIS SAME PROBLEM HAPPENED A YEAR AGO (AT ABOUT 65,000), AND I PAID ABOUT $40 TO HAVE THEM CHECK IT OUT, AND RESET THE LIGHT. THEY SAID NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH THE AIR BAG SYSTEM. THIS SHOULDN'T BE AN EXPENSE THE OWNER SHOULD HAVE TO BEAR. OBVIOUSLY, I AM NOT ALONE IN HAVING THIS PROBLEM. *LA
RECALL 02V120000 CONCERNING IGNITION SWITCH FAILURE. VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED UNDER THIS RECALL LAST YEAR. HOWEVER, THE STALLING PROBLEM RECURRED. DEALER INFORMED CONSUMER THAT THE REPAIRS WERE DONE, AND HE WAS NOT OBLIGATED TO REPAIR IT AGAIN. *AK
