ON 3 OCCASIONS THE CAR HAS DIED WHILE ACCELERATING UP A HILL. ALL THE INDICATORS LIGHT UP ON THE DASH. THE CAR LOSES POWER STEERING AND BRAKING ABILITY. IT STARTS RIGHT UP AFTER THIS OCCURS. I EXPLAINED TO THE TECHNICIAN THAT THE CAR IS HESITANT WHEN GOING UP INCLINES. HE TOLD ME THIS WAS NORMAL. *AK

WHILE DRIVING 10MPH AND MAKING RIGHT TURN ON THE RAILROAD TRACK RAN OVER A POTHOLE, DRIVER'S/ PASSENGER'S AIRBAG DEPLOYED UNEXPECTEDLY, CAUSING INJURIES AND CRASH. DEALER CANNOT DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER INFORMATION. *AK
WHEN TAKING OFF AT LOW SPEEDS THE CAR WILL HESITATE AND THEN TAKE OFF. AT AROUND 45 MPH IT WILL ALSO HESITATE. THIS HAS HAPPEND HUNDERDS OF TIMES. THE DEALER SPENT A WHOLE WEEKEND WITH THE CAR AND FOUND NOTHING. MY WIFE WENT THERE DROVE IT AND IT HAPPENED AGAIN. TH KEPT THE CAR FOR A WEEK AND DID NOT FIND ANYTHING, THE DEALER CLAIMS THAT THAT IS THE WAY THE CAR WORKS. MY 91 ACCORD HAS NEEVR DONE THIS. *AK
ON JAN 5, 2000, AT APPROXIMATELY 10:30 AM I BACKED MY CAR OUT OF THE GARAGE AND APPLIED THE BRAKES BEFORE ENTERING THE STREET. APPLYING THE BRAKES CAUSED THE UNCONTROLLABLE ACCELERATION OF THE CAR, CAUSING IT TO CROSS THE STREET/SIDESWIPE A NEIGHBOR'S HOUSE/ RUN OVER ANOTHER NEIGHBOR'S FENCE, AND KNOCK DOWN A STREET SIGN. I DO NOT KNOW IF THE ACCELERATOR GOT STUCK, BUT ANY AMOUNT OF PRESSURE ON THE BREAKS FAILED TO SLOW THE CAR. ALL OF THIS OCCURRED IN A MATTER OF SECONDS BEFORE FINALLY COMING TO REST IN THE CENTER OF THE STREET. DAMAGE TO THE CAR AND A NEIGHBRO'S HOUSE WAS EXTENSIVE. *AK
THE VEHICLE SELF ACCELERATED WHEN THE DRIVER STEPPED ON THE BRAKE RESULTING IN DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE DUE TO LOSS OF CONTROL AND ACCIDENT. YH
IN JANUARY 2000, I TOOK MY HONDA IN TO THE TRICKET DEALERSHIP TO HAVE A STICKING GAS PEDAL REPAIRED. THE MILEAGE AT THAT TIME WAS 35, 187. THE PEDAL WOULD STICK AND REQUIRE A HARD PUNCH WITH THE FOOT TO COME LOOSE. THE DEALER CLEANED THE THROTTLE AND TOLD ME IT WAS CAUSED BY A HONDA FLOOR MAT. THIS RESOLVED THE PROBLEM AT THAT TIME. I REMOVED THE FLOOR MAT. ON JANUARY 16, 2002 I TOOK THE HONDA INTO THE SAME DEALERSHIP AND REPORTED MY GAS PEDAL WAS STICKING AGAIN EVEN THOUGH I USED NO FLOOR MAT ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE. THE DEALERSHIP CLEANED THE THROTTLE AGAIN WITH A CHARGE TO ME OF $35.18 WHICH SEEMED TO TAKE CARE OF THE PROBLEM. WHEN I ASKED WHY THIS ELEMENT HAD FAILED TWICE, AT FIRST I WAS TOLD IT WAS BAD GAS, THEN THE DEALERSHIP ADMITTED 98-99 HONDA ACCORDS HAD RECURRING PROBLEMS WITH THE GAS PEDAL STICKING. THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THIS WAS NOT DANGEROUS BECAUSE THE GAS PEDAL DID NOT NORMALLY STICK WIDE OPEN. I GUESS DANGEROUS IS A MATTER OF OPINION. A GAS PEDAL STUCK HALF WAY DOWN COULD POTENTIALLY CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. WHEN I CALLED THE NATIONAL HONDA CUSTOMER SERVICE, I WAS TOLD TO GET THE THROTTLE CLEANED AS PART OF MY NORMAL MAINTENANCE. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF OTHER HONDA OWNERS ARE EXPERIENCING THIS DILEMMA. IT APPEARS TO ME TO BE AN OBVIOUS DESIGN FLAW AND HONDA SHOULD BE CORRECTING IT. I AM ALSO CONCERNED ABOUT LATER MODEL HONDA ACCORDS. I CERTAINLY DON'T WANT TO PURCHASE A NEW PROBLEM. ANY ASSISTANCE YOU COULD PROVIDE WOULD BE APPRECIATED. BY THE WAY, MY HONDA IS A "LX" MODEL.*AK
THERE IS A LEAK IN THE TRUNK AREA. WHEN IT IS RAINING, WATER DRIPS FROM THE AREA NEAR THE REAR SPEAKERS, ONTO THE TRUNK FLOOR. I FIRST NOTICED THIS PROBLEM A FEW YEARS AGO, BUT IT SEEMS TO HAVE GOTTEN WORSE RECENTLY (THIS MAY BE DUE TO THE CAR NO LONGER BEING PARKED IN THE GARAGE).*AK
VEHICLE ACCELERATES UNCONTROLLABLY; CONSUMER PULLED INTO DRIVEWAY, HAD FOOT ON BRAKES, AND VEHICLE ACCELERATED ON ITS OWN. DRIVER HAD TO SWERVE INTO A FIELD. SOMETIMES HAD TO PUT IN NEUTRAL TO SLOW VEHICLE DOWN. CONTACTED DEALER, AND DEALER STATED IT COULD BE THE FLOOR MATS. PLEASE ADD VIN #. *AK
I BROUGHT THE CAR TO TWO DIFFERENT DEALERSHIPS FOR THEM TO FIX THE RATTLING NOISE FROM THE WINDOWS. I ALSO SPOKE TO THE REGIONAL CUSTOMER SERVICE AND DISTRICT SERVICE MANAGER TO FIND A SOLUTION TO FIX MY CAR BUT IT STILL MAKING THE SMAKES NOISE. I BELIEVE I GOT A LEMON. THEREFORE, I HOPE MANUFACTURER WOULD HELP SOLVING THE PROBLEM.*AK
ENGINE CHECK LIGHT WILL SHOW UP AT ALL TIME ON THE DASHBOARD, AND LIGHT WILL STAY ON FOR LONG TIME. *AK
CAR WAS PARKED. WHEN STARTED IT SUDDENLY ACCELERATED, FIRST BACKWARD ONTO THE SIDEWALK, RESULTING IN A CRASH. WHEN PUT INTO DRIVE IT ACCELERATED RAPIDLY DESPITE APPLYING THE BRAKES FULL FORCE. I ESTIMATE SPEED OF 50+ MPH DOWN A CROWDED CITY STREET. WHEN I PULLED THE EMERGENCY. *AK
ON NOVEMBER 1ST, I GOT IN MY CAR AND IMMEDIATELY AFTER TURNING THE IGNITION THE TACHOMETER JUMPED UP TO 2000 RPM AND WAS SUSTAINED FOR MINUTES. THEN, THE CAR ACCELERATOR BEGAN SURGING BETWEEN 1000 TO 1500 RPM WHILE STILL IN THE "PARK" GEAR. I DID NOT KNOW WHAT TO DO SO I KEPT MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE AND KEPT IT THERE WHILE I SHIFTED THE CAR IN TO REVERSE TO BACK OUT OF A PARKING STALL. THE CAR WAS ACCELERATING IN REVERSE WITHOUT DEPRESSING THE GAS PEDAL. THEN, WHEN I SHIFTED THE CAR INTO "DRIVE" , THE TRANSMISSION JUMPED IMMEDIATELY INTO 2ND GEAR AND BEGAN ACCELERATING AT 30 MPH WITHOUT DECOMPRESSION OF THE GAS PEDAL. THIS CONTINUED ON MY ENTIRED DRIVE INTO WORK (15 MILES). WHEN I GOT OFF WORK, I STARTED TO DRIVE HOME WHEN I NOTICES MY "CHECK ENGINE LIGHT" WAS ILLUMINATED ON THE DASH BOARD. I THEN DROVE TO THE DEALERSHIP TO REPORT THE PROBLEM. THE PRELIMINARY CAUSE FROM THE DEALER SHIP WAS NOTED AS AN "ELECTRICAL PROBLEM". I BELIEVE THIS PROBLEM IS DANGEROUS ENOUGH TO INVESTIGATE SINCE THE ACCELERATION OF THE CAR WAS AFFECTED. I AM WILLING TO OFFER MORE INFORMATION TO THE NTSA ON THE OUTCOME OF THIS PROBLEM. PLEASE BE ADVISED THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED ON MULTIPLE DATES RANGING FROM 1999-2012. I THOUGHT IT WAS COVERED THROUGH NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID #: 98V018000 BUT I DID NOT USE THE CAR ENOUGH TO RECOGNIZE A PATTERN UNTIL 2002. I THINK AT THAT TIME, THERE MAY HAVE BEEN SEVERAL THOUSAND MILES IN 2002 WHEN I BEGAN TO USE THE CAR ON MORE ROUTINE BASES. THERE ARE TWO OCCASIONS THAT CAUSE THE ISSUE TO ARISE. WHILE I AM DRIVING, THE STEERING COLUMN WILL LOCK UP CAUSING AN ISSUE TO SHIFT FROM GEAR TO GEAR AND THE MOBILITY OF THE CAR. AS THE STEERING COLUMN WOULD LOCK AND CAUSE THE HORN TO MALFUNCTION AND NOT MAKE A SOUND AND THE LIMIT MY MOBILITY TO PARK THE CAR. MOST STREETS THAT I DRIVE ARE NOT ON AN INCLINE BUT THERE HAVE BEEN FEW OCCASIONS, WHERE IF THE CAR WAS ON A SLIGHT INCLINE, IT WOULD BEGIN TO ROLL. I WOULD USE THE GEAR BRAKES TO PREVENT AN ACCIDENT. ANOTHER ISSUE INVOLVES ANOTHER PATH (OCCASION) WHICH CAUSES THE STEERING WHEEL TO LOCK WHICH CAUSES MALFUNCTIONS IN THE HORN AND THE INTERLOCKING INCIDENT. IF I AM DRIVING AND IN THE STAGES OF PARKING MY CAR, THE STEERING COLUMN WILL LOCK AFFECTING THE ABILITY FOR ME TO CHANGE GEAR AND MY ABILITY TO ADEQUATELY MOBILITY WHEN PARK. THIS HAS OCCURRED MORE FREQUENTLY NOW BUT IT HAS OCCURRED IN 1999. WHEN I WAS ADVISED OF THE INTERLOCK RECALL, I THOUGHT THIS WAS ADDRESSED. ONCE THIS OCCURS, THE CAR CAN ONLY BE UNLOCKED WHEN I DRIVE WHEN I PRESS DOWN OF THE HEAR CHARGER, PUT THE KEY IN THE SLIGHT COVERING THE GEAR CHANGER AND MOVE THE STEERING WHEEL. WHEN I CALLED HONDA TODAY AND SPOKE TO [XXX] 800-999-1099 EXT [XXX], THE RECALL IS ASSOCIATED WITH THE VIN SOI WANTED TO MAKE SURE THIS WAS ACKNOWLEDGED FOR INCIDENTS FOR MY CAR MODEL & VIN. TRANSMISSION IS CHRONICALLY SLOW TO DOWNSHIFT. SEEMS TO HUNT FOR GEARS AND DOWNSHIFT INDECISIVELY. CAN MAKE VEHICLE RUN AS IF IT SURGES. ONCE IN A GEAR, ESPECIALLY 3RD OR 4TH, STILL SEEMS TO HUNT ABOUT OR SURGE WITHIN THAT GEAR. DEALER VISIT TODAY (RALPH SCHOMP IN LITTLETON,CO - NO COMPLAINTS THERE) INDICATES ALL IS WELL, THAT'S THE WAY IT RUNS. I THINK AN UPDATED COMPUTER CHIP COULD CURE ALL THIS. *AK
I WAS TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 35MPH WHEN A MINIVAN TURNED IN FRONT OF ME. THE FRONT OF MY CAR SLAMMED INTO THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE VAN. MY INSURANCE COMPANY AND OTHER DRIVERS (ACCIDENT WAS HIS FAULT) INSURANCE COMPANY HAVE DETERMINED THAT MY CAR WAS TOTALED. MY CONCERN IS THAT GOING AT THE RATE OF SPEED I WAS, AND THE DAMAGE TO THE FRONT OF MY CAR (I HAVE TAKEN PICTURES)WAS GREAT ENOUGH TO HAVE IT TOTALED, THE AIR BAGS SHOULD HAVE DEPLOYED.
THE GAS PEDAL REPEATEDLY STICKS REQUIRING EXCESSSIVE PRESSURE TO GET THE CAR MOVING. THE CAR THEN DANGEROUSLY LURCHES FORWARD. THE DEALER HAS BEEN CONTACTED AND ACKNOWLEDGES THE PROBLEM AND THAT IT HAS BEEN REPORTED IN OTHER HONDAS. THEY HAVE NO FIX FOR THE PROBLEM, EXCEPT TO CLEAN THE LINKAGE WHICH HELPS FOR 2-3000 MILES. *AK
GAS PEDAL STICKS. DEALER CLEANED THROTTLE BODY THREE TIMES UP TO DATE OF DEC/2000. ADVISED DEALER OF ISSUE, THEY ADVISED FOR REPRESENTATIVE TO INSPECT. CALLED MANUFACTURER WHO ADVISED NOT REPRESENTING ISSUE. WAITING ON RETURN CALL FROM MANUFACTURER. *AK

WHILE DRIVING AT 60 MPH A SHORT WITHIN THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM CAUSED THE BRAKE LIGHTS TO GO OUT/HORN FAILURE, AND VEHICLE NOT SHIFTING FROM DIFFERENT GEARS. *AK
CAR STALLS WHILE DRIVING AND ALL POWER IS LOST (NO POWER STEERING, BRAKES, ETC). THERE IS NO WARNING (I.E. THE CAR DOESN'T BUCK OR HESITATE - IT JUSTS SHUTS OFF AND ALL POWER IS LOST). IT WAS A BIG PROBLEM TWICE WHEN GOING AROUND A TURN, BECAUSE I DIDN'T HAVE THE POWER STEERING OR BRAKES. REAL BIG POSSIBILITY THAT SOMEONE EVENTUALLY WILL BE HURT IF PROBLEM PERSISTS.
BOTH FRONT BRAKE PADS WORE OUT PREMATURELY AND INTO THE ROTORS AT 9400 MILES.*AK
SPEEDOMETER IS INACCURATE AT THE 10% LEVEL WHICH MAUFACTURER SAYS IS WITHIN GUIDELINES ESTABLISHED BY YOUR AGENCY ALTHO COULD NOT PROVIDE ME WITH HARD COPY, LATER DEALER SAID INACCURATE SPEDDOMETER READINGS WITHIN DOT STANDARD AND FINALLY SAID IT WAS A HONDA STANDARD. INACCURATE SPEEDOMETER IS DANGEROUS AND MAY LEAD TO A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. HONDA REPLACED IT ONCE. TOLD ME REPLACEMENT MIGHT BE AS BAD. AND IT WAS. SO DOES HONDA HAVE WHO KNOWS HOW MAY ACCORDS OUT ON THE ROADS WITH 10% INACCURATE READINGS ON THEIR SPEEDOMETERS? I BELIEVE THAT ACCURACY STANDARD SHOUD EXIST FOR SPPEDOMETERS BUT AM AT MERCY OF MANUFACTURER WHO SAYS THEY SET THE ACCURACY LEVEL ONLY. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE IN MY HUMBLE OPINION. COULD YOU LOOK INTO THIS FOR ME AND PROBABL THOUSANDS OF OTHER HONDA OWNERS WHO DO NOT HAVE THE FAINTEST IDEA THAT THEIR SPEEDO ARE GIVING THEM FALSE REASDINGS.
ACCELERATOR PEDAL STICKS AT FIRST START, DEALER STATED THIS WAS DUE TO CARBON BUILT UP ON THROTTLE. NEEDED TO BE CLEANED REGULARLY.*AK VEHICLE WILL NOT START DUE TO FAULTY BATTERY. DEALER REPLACED BATTERY. *TT
CLUTCH PEDAL RELEASES IN JERKS CAUSES THE CAR TO LUNGE. BAD AT STOP SIGNS AND SLOW TRAVEL TRAFFIC.
GAS PEDAL STICKS AND MUST BE PRESSED TOO HARD TO GET CAR GOING WHICH CAUSES CAR TO GO OUT OF CONTROL. *AK
I DID NOT THINK MUCH OF MY DEFECTIVE SEATBELT SYSTEM UNTIL I SAW THAT HONDA ACCORDS HAVE ALREADY BEEN RECALLED (97V220000) FOR THIS SYSTEM. MY PROBLEM IS THAT THE BELT LOCKS UP DURING NORMAL DRIVING. WHAT I MEAN IS IT LOCKS UP , HOLDING THE PERSON IN SECURELY-IN FACT TOO TIGHT SO THAT THE PERSON CANNOT MOVE WITHOUT GETTING HELD IN EVEN TIGHTER(LIKE A BOA CONSTRICTOR). SO SINCE THERE IS NO ACCIDENT OCURRING THE PASSENGER REMOVES THE SEAT BELT TO "FREE" THEMSELVES UP AND RE-FASTEN. WELL WHAT IF AN ACCIDENT OCCURS AT THIS SAME TIME ? I DID GET THE BELT REPLACED IN A WEEK OR SO FOR FREE. SO I AM CONCERNED THAT MAYBEE OTHERS NEED TO GET CHECKED OUT. THANKS FOR THIS EASY SITE AND SERVICE. PROSPERITY TO YOU ALL.

SHOULDER BELT ISN'T WORKING PROPERLY DUE TO THE SWITCH THAT LOWERS THE BACK OF THE SEAT BELT WHICH IS AGAINST THE PASSENGER'S SEAT. *AK
CLEARCOAT AND PAINT FADED ON ROOF. DEALER HAD REPAINTED. 6 MONTHS LATER SAME THING HAPPENED TO TRUNK. DEALER HAD REPAINTED AGAIN. A FEW MONTHS LATER CLEARCOAT WAS COMING OFF THE DOORS. DEALER REFUSED TO REPAINT. SAID THIS HAS NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE. *JB
WAS DRIVING SLOWLY & MOVING INTO LEFT LANE TO TURN. TOW TRUCK IN LEFT LANE. PROCEEDED TO APPLY BRAKES. THE ENGINE STARTED TO REV UP & SOUNDED LIKE IT WAS ROARING. REARENDED TOW TRUCK. THE WHEELS ON HONDA WERE SPINNING & SMOKING AS IF THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS IN USE. FOOT WAS NEVER ON ACCELERATOR PEDAL. WHEEL SPINNING HAD TO BE STOPPED BY TURNING OFF THE IGNITION. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME ENGINE HAD REVVED & ACCELERATED WITH FOOT NOT ON PEDAL, BUT ON BRAKES. *AK *ML
RIGHT REAR SUSPENSION PRODUCES AN ABNORMAL AND ANNOYING DRUMMING NOISE IN THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT AT40 MPH OR GREATER ON CONCRETE HIGHWAYS AND ROUGH ASPHALT ROADS. IT ALSO SOUNDS LIKE BOUNCING BASKETBALLS WHEN CROSSING LANE MARKERS OR TAR STRIPS.
ALL OF A SUDDEN WHILE DRIVER HAD FOOT ON BRAKE VEHICLE ACCELERATED TO A VERY HIGH SPEED, CAUSING OWNER TO CRASH INTO A TREE. THERE WAS NO DEPLOYMENT OF AIR BAGS. THE PROBLEM WAS REPORTED TO THE MANUFACTURER. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A BODY SHOP. *AK
POSSIBLE PARKING PAWL FAILURE, LOUD CLANGING NOISE IN FRONT ENGINE COMPARTMENT AS IF METAL COMPONENT BROKE. IN MOVING SHIFTER FROM DRIVE TO REVERSE LOUD TRANSMISSION GEAR NOISE IS EVIDENT. FROM REVERSE TO DRIVE NOISE IS NOT AS LOUD. WHEN SHIFTER IS MOVED TO PARK THERE SEEMS TO BE MORE MOVEMENT IN VEHICLE AS TRANSMISSION GEAR LOCKS INTO PARKING GEAR. THIS IS NOT NORMAL WEAR ON TRANSMISSION , AS DEALER STATES. *AK
CONSUMER HAS BEEN EXPERIENCING ENGINE STALLS AND TRANSMISSION HUNTING FOR GEARS
HORN WAS WORKING INTERMITTENTLY. THEN, IT DID NOT OPERATE AT ALL. DEALER/MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED. FEEL FREE TO PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION CONCERNING THIS MATTER. *AK
NO DEPLOYMENT OF AIR BAG DURING A FRONTAL COLLISION CAUSING DAMAGE TO ENGINE SHAFT AND BUMPER.
SINCE 1/99, CAR WILL NOT START SPORADICALLY, DEALERSHIP AND REGIONAL OFFFICE CONTACTED. KEYS AND IMMOBILIZER REPLACED. TODAY, CAR SHUT OFF IN THIRD GEAR. HAD TO COME TO FULL STOP AND START UP AGAIN. DEALERSHIP CONTACTED AGAIN.
WHEN DRIVING AT ANY SPEED AND APPLYING THE BRAKES, PEDAL IS VERY HARD, AND THERE ISN'T ANY POWER STEERING. ALSO SOME TYPE OF NOISE IS COMING FROM THE VEHICLE DUE TO LOWER BALL JOINS WEARING OUT. *AK.
