I HAVE A 2003 HONDA ACCORD LX 4 DR SEDAN. THE SRS LIGHT IS ALWAYS ON FOR THE PAST 6 MONTHS. A DEALER TOLD ME THAT IT HAS TO BE REPAIRED, BUT AT MY OWN EXPENSE. I AM WONDERING IF HONDA IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPAIR LIKE THE SAFETY BELTS? *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 HONDA ACCORD. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH AT NIGHT, THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE WAS STRUCK ON THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE BY ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE AND REAR DOOR WERE DAMAGED. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY, BUT THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE POLICE WAS CALLED TO THE SCENE AND A REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A COLLISION CENTER FOR REPAIR. THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED OF THE SAFETY RISK INVOLVED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 89,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 HONDA ACCORD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. HE WAS UNSURE IF THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN REPAIRED ACCORDING TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 04V176000 (POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION), BUT THE VEHICLE HAS SUSTAINED DAMAGES OVER THE YEARS. WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE CONTACT HEARD STOP AND GO NOISES COMING FROM THE TRANSMISSION. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER AND THEY ARE INSPECTING THE TRANSMISSION. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 115,000.
2003 HONDA ACCORD EX. ALL THE LCD LIGHTS ON THE CENTER DASH CONSOLE WENT OUT, WHICH INCLUDES ALL THE RADIO INDICATORS AND ALL THE TEMPERATURE CONTROL INDICATORS. THIS IN MY OPINION IS A HAZARD BECAUSE YOU HAVE TO KEEP PUSHING BUTTONS TRYING TO FIND THE TEMPERATURE CONTROL THAT YOU WANT. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON OCCURRENCE. *TR
I WAS DRIVING AT APPROX 65-70 MPH ON THE FREEWAY, WHEN THE TRANSMISSION SEEMED TO SLIP OR SEIZE CAUSING EXTREME DECELERATION (CAR SEEMED TO SHIFT ITSELF INTO LOW GEAR). THIS CAUSED WHEELS TO LOCK UP BRIEFLY, AND NEARLY CAUSED ME TO LOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THIS INCIDENT WAS EXTREMELY HAZARDOUS, IN MY OPINION. I SEE NOW FROM THE INTERNET, THAT HUNDREDS OF OTHER HONDA ACCORD DRIVERS HAVE HAD SIMILAR EXPERIENCES. *TR
TRANSMISSION LOST 2 GEAR WHILE DRIVING LEAVING ME STRANDED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. *TR
MY 2003 HONDA ACCORD V6 TRANSMISSION RECENTLY FAILED WHILE I WAS DRIVING THE CAR ON THE FREEWAY. THE CAR HAD BEEN SERVICED FOR ROUTINE MAINTENANCE AT CLEAR LAKE HONDA ON WEDNESDAY NOV. 18TH AND WAS SUPPOSE TO BE READY ON THURSDAY NOV. 19TH. NO MENTION OF A RECALL ON THE TRANSMISSION WAS MADE EVEN THOUGH THEY DID MENTION BRAKES, BATTERY, ENGINE MOUNTS AND OTHER THINGS. THE DRIVE LIGHT WAS FLASHING, THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND ANOTHER LIGHT ON THE DASH. THE CAR LOST POWER AND THEN REGAINED POWER. I CALLED HONDA WHILE DRIVING THE CAR AND WAS TOLD TO BRING THE CAR IN. ONCE I ARRIVED THEY REFUSED TO LOOK AT THE CAR STATING I NEEDED TO PAY $96 FOR A DIAGNOSTIC TEST. I HAD JUST PAID OVER $1800 IN SERVICE THE DAY BEFORE. ALSO THE TRIP PUT THE CAR OVER 100,000 MILES WHICH I HAVE READ THAT HONDA IS REFUSING TO SERVICE CARS REGARDLESS OF THE RECALL. I HAVE NOT YET CALLED TO VERIFY THIS. THE CAR IS CURRENTLY BEING SERVICED AT A TRANSMISSION SHOP. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ON THE FLORIDA TPK. AT APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH. THE RPMS SHOT UP LIKE IF THE CAR HAD SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL. I WAS ABLE TO PULL THE CAR OVER TO THE SHOULDER AND SHUT IT FOR A FEW MINUTES. I BOUGHT THIS CAR USED IN JUNE OF 2008 WITH ABOUT 60,000 MILES. THIS HAPPENED LATER THAT YEAR IN NOVEMBER. I HAD OTHER MINOR INCIDENTS OF SLIPPAGE BUT IT WOULD QUICKLY SLIP BACK INTO GEAR. I NOW HAVE ALMOST 90,000 MILES AND THE PROBLEM CONTINUES HAPPENING RANDOMLY BUT MOSTLY WHEN THE ENGINE TEMPERATURE IS HIGH AND AT LOW SPEEDS. THE GEAR SLIPS FROM 2ND TO 3RD. FORTUNATELY FOR ME, IT WAS VERY EARLY IN THE MORNING WHEN THIS HAPPENED AND THERE WAS NOT MUCH TRAFFIC. IF I WOULD HAVE BEEN DRIVING DURING HEAVIER TRAFFIC TIMES, I WOULD HAVE BEEN INVOLVED IN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. I FEARED FOR MY LIFE AND NO ONE SHOULD HAVE TO DIE BEFORE THIS BECOMES A RECALL/FULL ACTION LAWSUIT FOR HONDA. THE CAR WAS JERKING TO TRY TO FIND THE GEAR AND THE FIRST THING I DID AFTER I PULLED TO THE SHOULDER WAS CALL MY WIFE AND TELL HER WHAT HAD JUST HAPPENED. I CALLED BRAMAN HONDA IN MIAMI, FL AND WAS GIVEN AN APPOINTMENT DATE TO BRING IT IN ON 12/6/08. AMERICAN HONDA CASE: N032008-12-0200567. THE TRANSMISSION FAILURE WAS DIAGNOSED AND THE VEHICLE DOES NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION. ALTHOUGH THE DEALERSHIP CLAIMED THEY WERE UNFAMILIAR WITH THE PROBLEM, THEY CALLED ME BACK TO SAY AMERICAN HONDA WAS GOING TO SPLIT THE TOTAL COST AND PAY FOR THE TRANSMISSION (GOODWILL DEED) AND I WOULD ONLY HAVE TO PAY THE LABOR, WHICH WAS ABOUT $1,700. I COULD NOT AFFORD THAT AND CONTINUED TRYING TO CONTACT THEM FOR A FULL REPAIR. NO LUCK. I COULDN'T BELIEVE MY HONDA WITH 75,000 MILES NEEDED A NEW TRANSMISSION! I HAVE FOUND OUT ALMOST 1.1 MILLION 2003 V-6 ACCORDS LIKE MINE ARE AFFECTED, BUT YET NO RECALL?? HONDA REFUSES TO ADMIT THE 2003 ACCORDS HAVE FAULTY TRANSMISSIONS. INSTEAD OF STANDING BEHIND THEIR PRODUCT, THEY ARE HIDING THE TRUTH. I HOPE THIS COMPLAINT AIDS IN GETTING THE TRUTH. I AM CONTACTING A LAWYER IN NY AS WELL. *TR
MERGING ONTO FREEWAY, TRANSMISSION DOWNSHIFTED TO LOWER GEAR CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO SLOW DOWN. NARROWLY AVOIDED COLLISION. *TR
SUDDEN INADVERTENT DOWNSHIFT OF THE TRANSMISSION AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. LUCKILY, NO VEHICLES WERE TRAILING BEHIND, SINCE RAPID DECELERATION OCCURRED, SIMILAR TO HARD BRAKING. THE TRANSMISSION SUBSEQUENTLY FAILED COMPLETELY, AND THE CAR REQUIRED TOWING TO THE DEALERSHIP. NO PRIOR EVENTS OCCURRED (I.E. TRANSMISSION GRINDING, SLIPPING, NOISES, ETC) THAT PROVIDED WARNING THAT SOMETHING WAS WRONG. *TR
SON WAS DRIVING MY 2003 HONDA ACCORD ON THE 10 FREEWAY TRANSMISSION SLIPPED OUT OF GEAR STARTING DECELERATING AND THE RPM'S WENT WAY UP. THIS HAPPENED OVER AND OVER AGAIN WITH NO PRIOR WARNING OF ANY KIND. DROVE TO VALLEY HI HONDA IN VICTORVILLE WHERE CAR WAS PURCHASED AND HAS BEEN SERVICED. ONE BLOCK FROM THE DEALERSHIP THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. DIAGNOSIS IS TRANSMISSION FAILURE, NEED FULL REPLACEMENT. ONLY 122,475 MILES. THIS SEEMS TO BE AN EPIDEMIC. THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF POSTINGS ABOUT THIS ISSUE ON LINE AND AMERICAN HONDA HAS BEEN ADVISED OVER AND OVER AND STILL NOTHING DONE. THERE WERE TRANSMISSIONS RECALLS ON THESE MODELS BUT WHEN TAKEN IN THEY CHECKED THE CAR OUT AND SAID MY VEHICLE NOT EFFECTED. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE. A PERSON IS ON A FREEWAY AND ALL OF THE SUDDEN LOOSES POWER! THIS COULD BE DEADLY! *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 HONDA ACCORD. OCCASIONALLY, THE RPMS INCREASED EXCESSIVELY. THE CONTACT APPLIED PRESSURE TO THE BRAKE PEDAL IN ORDER TO STOP IT FROM ACCELERATING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER SEVERAL TIMES BUT THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 46,000. UPDATED 2/17/11 *CN THE CONSUMER STATED THE RPMS INCREASED EXCESSIVELY WHILE BRAKING. UPDATED 03/02/11
2003 HONDA ACCORD EX AND ACCORD LX SAFETY RECALL WINDSHIELD WIPERS MAY STOP WORKING. CONSUMER HAS ISSUES WITH THIS RECALL AND ONE FOR THE TRANSMISSION. *NJ THE CONSUMER HAS TWO HONDA ACCORDS AND WHEN SHE TOOK THE VEHICLES TO THE DEALER ON DIFFERENT DATES, THE INVOICES GAVE DIFFERENT EXPLANATIONS AS TO WHAT WAS DONE TO REMEDY THE RECALL. THE CONSUMER BEGAN HAVING TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS WITH THE SEDAN EX. THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NOT MOVE TO THE SECOND LEVEL SMOOTHLY. THE DEALER COULD NOT FIND ANY DEFECTS WITH THE SECOND GEAR. FIVE DAYS LATER, THE ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE STOPPED TWICE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. THE CONSUMER WAS ABLE TO MAKE IT TO THE DEALER AND A DIAGNOSTICS REVEALED THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *JB
TL*THE CONTACT'S SPOUSE OWNS A 2003 HONDA ACCORD. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY, THE VEHICLE COMPLETELY SHUT OFF AND WOULD NOT RESTART. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE. A CERTIFIED MECHANIC STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED ACCORDING TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 04V176000 (POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION). THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE WAS UNAWARE OF THIS RECALL REPAIR. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 92,000.
DRIVING ALONG IN MY 2003 HONDA ACCORD V-6 AND MY TRANSMISSION JUST WENT CRAZY AND WHEN I WENT TO TAP MY BRAKES TO PULL OVER IT JUST SLAMMED INTO A LOWER GEAR BRINGING MY CAR TO A JOLTING STOP, EVERYTHING IN THE CAR WAS JERKED FORWARD, FORTUNATELY THE TRAFFIC AROUND ME WAS PAYING ATTENTION AND MOVED AROUND ME QUICKLY UNTIL I COULD SAFELY PULL OVER. HONDA DEALERSHIP SAID INTERNAL TRANSMISSION FAILURE, WHICH AFTER RESEARCHING ON-LINE I DISCOVERED NUMEROUS IN THE HUNDREDS OF IDENTICAL COMPLAINTS ON THIS MODEL, YEAR. TOTAL TRANSMISSION FAILURE. RANGING FROM 60,000 MILES TO 127,000 MILES. IT SEEMS THAT HONDA IS AWARE OF SOME SORT OF A PROBLEM BECAUSE THEY DID A RECALL IN 04 FOR THIS ISSUE HOWEVER ALL THE VEHICLE TRANSMISSION COMPLAINTS I FOUND ON-LINE WERE ALL POST RECALL FAILURES. MINE FAILED AT NIGHT AT LOW SPEED IN MINIMAL TRAFFIC WITH FAVORABLE WEATHER CONDITIONS, WOULD HATE TO IMAGINE HIGHER SPEED, THICKER TRAFFIC, AND EVEN ADVERSE WEATHER CONDITIONS. *TR
I OWN A 2003 HONDA ACCORD V6 AUTOMATIC,THE TRANSMISSION HAD A RECALL A FEW YEARS AGO,NO REPLACEMENT WAS REQUIRED AT THE TIME, BUT NOW WITH ONLY 61,000 MILES ON IT, IT BROKE DOWN, I CAN NOT EVEN PUT IT ON REVERSE ANYMORE. *TR
I NOTICED THAT NHTSA IS WAITING FOR SOMEONE TO LEAVE A COMPLAINT SAYING THAT SOMEONE HAS DIED OR SERIOUSLY INJURED! I AM SO DISAPPOINTED AT HOW MANY COMPLAINTS I HAVE SEEN ABOUT THE 2003 HONDA ACCORD AUTO TRANSMISSION. I HAVE A 2003 ACCORD AND I HAVE ONLY HAD IT FOR 1 YEAR AND ALREADY THE TRANSMISSION IS SLIPPING. I FOUND OUT THAT I NEED ANOTHER TRANSMISSION. MY CAR HAS 102,000 AND PAST THE WARRANTY OF I THINK 36-46,000 MILES WARRANTY. I CALLED AMERICAN HONDA AND I WAS TOLD THAT MY CAR RECEIVED A OIL JECT KIT IN 2004 AND THE TRANSMISSION WAS FINE. NOW, IF SOME REPAIR WAS DONE ON MY CAR IN 2004, THEN WHY HAS MY TRANSMISSION GONE OUT. IT SADDENS ME THAT HONDA AND NHTSA KNOW OF THIS PROBLEM BUT NOTHING IS BEING DONE. I DON'T WANT MY FAMILY TO HAVE TO MAKE THIS COMPLAINT BECAUSE MY CHILDREN AND I WERE KILLED IN AN ACCIDENT FROM BEING HIT FROM BEHIND. I HAVE HAD SO MANY CLOSE CALLS THAT I HAD TO PULL OVER AND CRY BECAUSE I WAS SO UPSET. I WAS TOLD THAT I AM PROBABLY GOING TO BE RESPONSIBLE FOR GETTING THIS FIXED AND LORD KNOWS I DON'T HAVE THE MONEY! HOW CAN THIS BE HAPPENING. A COMPANY KNOWS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM AND STAND BY AND LEAVE THEIR VALUED CUSTOMERS ON A BRANCH ALONE TO TAKE CARE OF THIS PROBLEM. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND A HONDA TO ANY ONE. THEY BRAG ABOUT THEIR CAR BUT THE PERFORMANCE OF THE HONDA IS NOT BACKING IT UP! I AM LOOKING INTO TALKING TO A LAWYER ABOUT THIS DEAL! *TR
WHILE DRIVING, VEHICLE SLOWED DOWN AND ENGINE REVVED. TRANSMISSION FAILED. COULD NOT MAINTAIN POSTED SPEED LIMIT. TRANSMISSION HAD TO BE REBUILT. HONDA REFUSED TO HONOR PREVIOUS RECALL FROM SUMMER OF 2004. CLAIMED CAR HAD BEEN REPAIRED UNDER RECALL BUT COULD NOT PROVIDE ANY DETAILS. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ON A LOCAL STREET, WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN, FROM BEING AT FULL STOP IN RED LIGHT, I HIT THE GAS PEDAL, AND THE CAR WILL NOT BUDGE. THE ENGINE WAS REVVING BUT THERE WAS NO POWER--IT WAS LIKE BEING STUCK IN NEUTRAL. TRIED RESTARTING THE CAR SEVERAL TIMES, AND WAS ABLE TO GET TO A SAFE LOCATION ON A SIDE STREET. CONTACTED HONDA, AND I WAS NOTIFIED THAT THE TRANSMISSION HAD TO BE REPLACED. COST WAS AROUND $3000. HONDA OFFERED TO PAY ONLY 25%, SO I WAS STILL STUCK WITH A $2300 BILL. I THINK THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE FOR HONDA AND THEY SHOULD HAVE COVERED MORE THAN 25% IF IT IS INDEED SOME KIND OF TRANSMISSION DESIGN FLAW. THE TRANSMISSION SHOULDN'T HAVE TOTAL FAILURE WHEN I'VE STUCK TO THE SCHEDULE OF SERVICING THE TRANSMISSION AT 60K, 90K, AND 120K AS PRESCRIBED IN THE OWNER'S MANUAL. *TR
ON 10/1/08, THE TRANSMISSION STARTED SLIPPING IN BETWEEN GEARS. WE WENT AND GOT THE TRANSMISSION FLUID REPLACED AND FILLED UP ON SATURDAY. ON MONDAY, OUR TRANSMISSION COMPLETED DIED, LEAVING ME, MY 9 YEAR OLD, AND 18 MONTH OLD STRANDED ON A BUSY HIGHWAY DURING RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC. WE HAD TO GET SOMEONE TO COME PICK US UP, AND I HAD TO GET OUR CAR TOWED TO OUR HOUSE SINCE WE HAVE NO IDEA WHERE TO TAKE IT TO. WHEN THE TRANSMISSION WENT OUT, IT ALMOST CAUSED SOMEONE TO REAR-END OUR CAR AND CAUSE A HUGE CAR ACCIDENT. DUE TO THIS, I NOW HAVE TO MISS WORK AND TRY TO GET THIS FIXED. WHO KNOWS HOW LONG I WILL NOT BE WORKING BECAUSE THIS IS MY ONLY CAR! *TR

OCCURS DURING ACCELERATION (FROM A STOP OR WHEN MERGING/PASSING ON THE HIGHWAY) AND WHEN TRYING TO MAINTAIN SPEED UP AN INCLINE. THIS EVENT OCCURS WHENEVER THE CAR GETS WARMED UP (AFTER ABOUT 35-40 MINUTES OF DRIVING). *TR
HONDA HAS A RECALL ON WINDSHIELD WIPERS FOR 2003 ACCORD AND AIRBAG SENSORS. THEY CLAIM MY VIN # IS NOT INCLUDED. THEY SAY EVEN THOUGH I'M HAVING THE SAME PROBLEMS IT IS JUST COINCIDENTAL AND I AM RESPONSIBLE FOR REPAIRS. THEY CLAIM THE ARE NOT LIABLE IN CASE OF AN ACCIDENT SINCE MY VIN # DOES NOT FALL UNDER THE RECALL. *TR

I HAVE AN '03 V6 HONDA ACCORD AND THE TRANSMISSION SIMPLY WENT OUT. IT STARTED SUDDENLY TO SLIP INTO NEUTRAL FOR NO REASON. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE SINCE IT WAS SUDDEN AND I WAS ON SIDE STREETS IN TRAFFIC WHEN IT OCCURRED. *TR

TRANSMISSION SLIPS VIOLENTLY OUT OF GEAR ONCE THE ENGINE IS WARMED UP, AND THE RPM'S GO OVER 2700. OCCURS DURING ACCELERATION (FROM A STOP OR WHEN MERGING/PASSING ON THE HIGHWAY) AND WHEN TRYING TO MAINTAIN SPEED UP AN INCLINE. THE RAPID DECELERATION WHEN THE CAR SLIPS OUT OF GEAR ON THE HIGHWAY AND ESPECIALLY ON INCLINES ON THE HIGHWAY SENDS ALL THE SURROUNDING DRIVERS INTO EVASIVE MANEUVERS TO AVOID COLLISION. THIS EVENT OCCURS WHENEVER THE CAR GETS WARMED UP (AFTER ABOUT 35-40 MINUTES OF DRIVING). CAR IS BEING SENT TO A HONDA DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIRS, AWAITING THE FINAL VERDICT BUT I BELIEVE THEY WILL BE TRYING TO CHARGE ME ALMOST $6000 FOR A BRAND NEW TRANSMISSION. AS FAR AS SAFETY IS CONCERNED MY CAR SLIPPED OUT OF GEAR ON MY WAY TO WORK ON I 97 NORTHBOUND (MAIN BALTIMORE/ANNAPOLIS ARTERY) GOING UP AN INCLINE IN HEAVY TRAFFIC MOVING AT APPROX 70MPH. SEVERAL CARS HAD TO DIVE ONTO THE SHOULDER AND I HAD TO GO INTO THE MEDIAN GRASS TO AVOID A MASSIVE REAR END COLLISION DURING MORNING RUSH HOUR. *TR
THE CAR WAS TRAVELING 25MPH AND WAS STUCK HEAD ON DIRECTLY ON THE DRIVER SIDE. CAR WAS TOTALED. DRIVER SIDE AIRBAG DIDN'T DEPLOY AND DRIVER SIDE SEAT BELT DID NOT HOLD. THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG DEPLOYED. THIS IS A MAJOR FLAW IN THE CAR DESIGN. *TR
GREETINGS! WHILE DRIVING INTO WORK ABOUT 14 MONTHS AGO, MY 2003 HONDA ACCORD SUDDENLY WENT OUT OF GEAR. THE TRANSMISSION FELT LIKE IT WENT INTO NEUTRAL (WHILE STILL IN DRIVE) AND I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY DOING 60 MPH. LUCKILY THERE WERE NO VEHICLES NEAR ME. THE CAR STARTED TO GO INTO CONVULSIONS, AS I COULD ONLY GUESS THE TRANSMISSION WAS TRYING TO FIND THE GEAR ONCE AGAIN. NEED I SAY, I WAS SCARED FOR MY LIFE. I IMMEDIATELY PULLED OVER TO THE SHOULDER WITH MY HEART RACING! I WAS THANKING GOD NOTHING HAPPENED. A SIMILAR INCIDENT HAPPENED TO MY WIFE SHORTLY AFTER THAT AND I BEGAN LOOKING UP INFORMATION REGARDING RECALLS. SURELY ENOUGH, I STUMBLED UPON THE 2003 HONDA ACCORD TRANSMISSION RECALL. I CONTACTED HONDA AND BROUGHT THE CAR TO A DEALER AS INSTRUCTED TO HAVE IT DIAGNOSED. THE TRANSMISSION WAS FAULTY AND ALTHOUGH THEY DID OFFER COMPENSATION FOR HALF OF THE COST TO PUT IN A NEW TRANSMISSION, I WAS STILL NOT ABLE TO AFFORD $1,500. I FOUND IT VERY UNFAIR THAT MY ACCORD, WHICH WAS PURCHASED ABOUT 2 YEARS AGO FOR DURABILITY PURPOSES, HAD THIS ISSUE WITH ONLY 74,000 MILES. I'VE DRIVEN HONDAS FOR OVER 20 YEARS AND HAVE NEVER HAD A PROBLEM WITH ANY. I PRESENTLY DRIVE MY ACCORD TO AND FROM WORK AND DO NOT TAKE THE EXPRESSWAY FOR FEAR OF WHAT HAPPENED TO MY WIFE AND MYSELF. HOWEVER, MEANING THERE HAVE BEEN OVER 1 MILLION VEHICLES WITH THIS SIMILAR PROBLEM, I THINK A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT OR FULL RECALL SHOULD BE CONSIDERED. I CAN HONESTLY SAY IF I WOULD HAVE BEEN IN HEAVY TRAFFIC, I WOULD HAVE SUFFERED A SERIOUS ACCIDENT THAT DAY. JUST AN FYI. I AM DOING MY PART TO MAKE SURE THAT THE NHTSA IS AWARE OF A POTENTIALLY DEADLY PROBLEM WITH THE 2003 HONDA ACCORD V6. THE CAR IS A EPIDEMIC TRANSMISSION PROBLEM, WHICH HONDA RECALLED IN 2004 BUT THEY DID NOT REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION. THEIR BAND-AID RECALL ONLY RESULTED IN A DELAYING OF THE TRANSMISSION FAILURE. AFTER APPROXIMATELY 60,000 MILES, A VERY HIGH PERCENTAGE OF THE ACCORD V6 TRANSMISSIONS FAIL. THIS ALL HAPPENS WHEN THE DRIVER WAS ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE, AND CAN BE CAUSE OF A REAR END COLLISION. I IMPLORE THIS ADMINISTRATION TO DO SOME RESEARCH INTO THIS MATTER, AS HONDA WILL NOT ACKNOWLEDGE THIS PROBLEM. THEY ARE INSTALLING RE-BUILT TRANSMISSIONS INTO THE CARS AND OFFERING A PERCENTAGE "GOOD WILL" MONEY TOWARDS THE REPAIR. HOWEVER, THIS IS ON A CASE BY CASE BASIS, AND MANY OWNERS ARE LEFT WITH LITTLE TO NO ASSISTANCE. HONDA ADMITS TO THEIR TRANSMISSIONS FROM 1999 TO 2001'S BEING DEFECTIVE, BUT THEY WILL NOT ADMIT TO THEIR 2002-2004 TRANSMISSION HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. 2003 HONDA ACCORD EX-L V6 DOWNSHIFTS FROM WHATEVER GEAR TO FIRST OR SECOND WHEN TRANSMISSION BEGINS TO FAIL. THIS CAUSE THE WHEELS TO LOCK AND THE CAR TO RAPIDLY DECELERATE. THIS HAPPENED AFTER 93000 MILES. THE CAR HAD A RECALL FOR THE TRANSMISSION WHICH PUTS A BANDAID ON THE SITUATION AND DID NOT SOLVE THE ISSUE. AFTER TAKING THE CAR TO BE REPAIRED AND BEING STUCK WITH A VERY LARGE BILL THE TRANSMISSION FAILED AFTER 100 MILES. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 HONDA ACCORD. WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE SECOND GEAR WAS FAILING. THE VEHICLE WOULD SHIFT FROM FOURTH TO SECOND GEAR AND FROM FIFTH TO SECOND GEAR, WHICH CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO JERK AND SLAM. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP AND THEY STATED THAT THE CLUTCH FAILED, WHICH CAUSED THE TRANSMISSION TO FAIL. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AT THE COST OF $2,450. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT BE COVERED BY THE TRANSMISSION RECALL; THEREFORE, NO COMPENSATION WAS MADE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 85,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 86,000.

THE TCS LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL AND THE DEALER RECOMMENDED THAT THE WHEELS BE CHANGED. THE CONTACT REPLACED THE WHEELS WITH MANUFACTURER WHEELS, BUT THE FAILURE STILL CONTINUED. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER, BUT THEY COULD NOT DIAGNOSE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THEY SPECULATED THAT THE WELDING IN THE CLUTCH DRUM WAS FAULTY AND CAUSED THE TRANSMISSION TO LOCK IN THIRD GEAR. THE DEALER REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION. THE CONTACT BELIEVES THAT THE MANUFACTURER SHOULD HAVE REPAIRED THE VEHICLE FOR FREE SINCE IT APPEARS TO BE A MANUFACTURER DEFECT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 85,000.

YET HONDA HAD RECALLED THE CAR IN APRIL 2005 FOR A 2ND GEAR PROBLEM, AND THE DEALERSHIP SAID THAT THE FIXES SOMETIMES DON'T WORK PERFECTLY AND CAN CREATES SHAVINGS THAT LEAD TO TOTAL FAILURE. EVEN WITHOUT THE RECALL, HONDA'S TRANSMISSION QUALITY IS TERRIBLE IF IT FAILS AFTER 92K MILES. ON THE WAY HOME, DASHBOARD LIT UP LIKE A CHRISTMAS TREE; CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, TCS LIGHT, OIL LIGHT. HAD CAR TOWED TO DEALER; TOTAL TRANSMISSION FAILURE. IN ADDITION TO THE TRANSMISSION DYING, 6 MONTHS AGO THE DASHBOARD/RADIO/TEMPERATURE PANEL LIGHTS FAILED, THE DOME LIGHT DOESN'T WORK, THE RIGHT HEADLIGHT HAS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED 3 TIMES, THE DRIVER'S SIDE SEAT HAS ALWAYS BEEN LOOSE. I AM THE ORIGINAL AND ONLY OWNER OF THIS CAR AND HAVE HAD IT REPAIRED/MAINTAINED AT HONDA DEALERS SINCE PURCHASE. TO HAVE ALL THESE ISSUES, PLUS HAVE THE TRANSMISSION FAIL AT 106,000 MILES IS UNACCEPTABLE. THEN TO HAVE TO PAY $2200 TO HAVE A USED, REMANUFACTURED TRANSMISSION INSTALLED IS UNACCEPTABLE. MY 2003 HONDA ACCORD HAS THE SAME FACTORY HOSE AS DESCRIBED IN THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 08V091000. THE LOW TEMPERATURE HOSE WAS EXPOSED TO HEAT WHICH LEAD TO CRACKING AND LEAK IN THE HIGH PRESSURE POWER STEERING HOSE. THE HEAT SOURCE IS THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD AND DIRECTLY BELOW IS THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER. THE POWER STEERING FLUID LEAKED ONTO THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER AND AFTER THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER REACHED OPERATING TEMPERATURE SMOKE BILLOWED FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. THE SMOKE BECAME OVERWHELMING TO THE OCCUPANTS OF THE CAR THROUGH THE FRESH AIR INTAKE OF THE AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM. *TR

WE PURCHASED 4 NEW TIRES FROM MERCHANT TIRES IN THOMASVILLE, NC ON 7/7/07. ON 9/8/08 WE HAD TO REPLACE A TIRE BECAUSE OF A VALVE STEM FAILURE WHICH THE COMPANY DIDN'T TELL US. THE TIRE HAD A BULGE ON THE SIDE WALL BECAUSE THEY WERE LOW PROFILE TIRES AND MY WIFE DIDN'T NOTICE THE TIRE WAS LOW BECAUSE OF THE VALVE STEM. FROM HER DRIVING ON THE TIRE IT CAUSED THE SIDE WALL DAMAGE. MY WIFE TRIED FIX A FLAT BUT SHE SAID THE VALVE STEM WAS BARLEY HANGING ON SO SHE COULD USE FIX A FLAT. AFTER THAT INCIDENT A WEEK LATER ON 9/14/08 I HAD TO TAKE ANOTHER TIRE TO MERCHANTS TO GET FIXED AND THIS TIME IT WASN'T DAMAGED AND I WAS TOLD BY MERCHANTS IT WAS A VALVE STEM AND THAT WAS ALL IT NEEDED. TODAY 10/10/08 I NOTICED A WARNING ISSUE ON MERCHANTS WEBSITE ISSUED BECAUSE OF DILL VALVE STEMS. I ASKED THEM HOW DO I GET A REFUND FOR THE TIRE I HAD TO REPLACE BECAUSE OF THE TIRE. HE INFORMED ALL COMPLAINTS NEED TO GO TO DILL AIR CONTROLLED PRODUCTS. SO I FOUND THIS FORM ON ANOTHER INTERNET SITE WITH PEOPLE HAVING THE SAME ISSUES. THE WIRING HARNESS ON MY HONDA ACCORD RECENTLY HAD VARIOUS PLACES WHERE RODENT(S) HAVE CHEWED ON IT THAT RESULTED IN ENGINE PROBLEMS. THE SAME THING HAPPENED TWO TIMES IN 2007 ON A CHRYSLER PACIFICA. IN RESEARCHING ONLINE, IT APPEARS THAT THIS IS A MUCH LARGER PROBLEM THAN I WOULD HAVE THOUGHT, WITH HUNDREDS IF NOT THOUSANDS OF INCIDENTS, PRIMARILY ON NEWER VEHICLES. SOME OF THE POSTS HAVE INDICATED THAT SEVERAL MANUFACTURERS ARE USING A SOY BASED WIRING HARNESS MATERIAL COVERING THE ACTUAL WIRES. THIS SEEMS TO BE ATTRACTING ALL SORTS OF RODENTS INCLUDING MICE, RATS, SQUIRRELS, AND EVEN RABBITS. I TAKE MY HONDA TO THE DEALERSHIP EVERY 5,000 MILES FOR MAINTENANCE. I WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT IN AUGUST 2008 - SOMEONE HIT MY DRIVER SIDE REAR. THE WHEEL WAS BENT AND MY STEERING WHEEL WAS TURNED 90 DEGREES. AFTER IT WAS REPAIRED, I TOOK MY CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR THE 5,000 MILE CHECKUP. THEY BALANCED AND ROTATED THE TIRES. THAT IS WHEN I FOUND OUT THE WHEEL WAS BENT. WENT TO MY MECHANIC AND HE TOLD ME THE WHEEL WAS BENT AND THAT THE STEERING RACK WAS GOING OUT. I CONTACTED THE INSURANCE COMPANY AND THEY SAID THAT THE STEERING RACK PROBLEM WAS NOT CAUSED BY THE ACCIDENT.
