SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!!!!!!! ON THE ABOVE DATE, I STARTED MY CAR & PROCEEDED TO CLEAN RAIN WATER FROM THE WINDSHIELD. THE WIPERS WOULD NOT COME ON, NOR WOULD THE RADIO. THIS IS JUST A COUPLE OF ONGOING THINGS THAT I'VE EXPERIENCED WITH THIS CAR, SINCE I'VE PURCHASED IT. MY MECHANIC SAYS THE WIPERS ARE FACTORY DEFECTS. WHEW, NOT AGAIN!!!! UGH! WHEN'S IT GOING TO END. I'M ONE OF THOSE PEOPLE WHO DEPEND ON MY CAR FRO EVERYTHING BECAUSE OF MY COLLEGE STUDENT SO, I'M ANAL ON THE MAINTENANCE. WE JUST PUT IN NEW BALL JOINTS AND HE TELLS ME THE SUSPENSION IS FAULTY SO, IT WILL CAUSE ME TO REPLACE THE JOINTS AGAIN IN THE FUTURE. I OPTED FOR THE LESSER OF THE TWO BECAUSE, IT'S A FACTORY ISSUE. I'VE RECEIVED A COUPLE OF RECALL NOTICES HOWEVER, UPON TAKING THE CAR TO THE DEALER, ONCE THEY KEPT IT& CLAIMED TO FIX THE STEERING ISSUES HOWEVER, THEY STILL EXIST. I TOOK IT A SECOND TIME, THEY HAD THE CAR ALL OF 20 MINS. AND TOLD ME THAT THIS ISSUE WAS FIXED PREVIOUSLY. I'M CONTINUOUSLY HAVING ISSUES WITH THE STEERING WHINING, NO MATTER HOW MANY TIMES I SERVICE THE FLUIDS. MY RADIO & ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS IN THE CAR, IS CONSTANTLY ON THE BLINK OR NOT WORKING. NOW THE PASSENGER WINDOW DECIDES NOT TO GO UP. ONE DAY, AS I WAS EXITING THE VEHICLE (TURNED OFF!) IT DECIDED TO ROLL BACKWARDS.LUCKILY BOTH FEET WERE NOT OUT THE CAR AND I COULD CATCH IT! I'VE INVESTED SO MUCH MONEY IN KEEPING THIS CAR RUNNING UNTIL MY MECHANIC KNOWS WHAT GOING WRONG BEFORE THE RECALLS COME OUT. HE'S SERVICED SO MANY "03" ACCORDS, UNTIL HE'S THINKING OF BECOMING A SPECIALIST FOR HONDAS. I JUST WANT HONDA TO CORRECT ALL RECALLS ON MY VEHICLE. MY STUDENT DEPENDS ON IT.! HOW ARE THESE CAR MANUFACTURERS ALLOWED TO KEEP ROBBING ITS CUSTOMERS??? MY ADDRESS HAS CHANGED SINCE MY LAST COMPLAINT. SEE BELOW. *TR
2003 HONDA ACCORD V6. GOING APPROXIMATELY 70MPH ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY AND THE CAR VIOLENTLY DOWNSHIFTED AS IF I HAD SLAMMED ON THE BRAKES. ALMOST HIT BY OTHER CARS ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS AS THE PROBLEM PERSISTED. ALSO HEARD A WHINING NOISE/RATTLING UNDER THE HOOD WHILE DRIVING IN 2ND GEAR. ONCE I SMELLED BURNING I KNEW IT WAS TIME TO GIVE UP. HAD TO GET CAR TOWED AN HOUR AWAY. *TR
I PURCHASED A HONDA ACCORD EX ABOUT 30 DAYS AGO, USED, OF COURSE. THE IGNITION SWITCH IS LOCKING. I CAN TURN THE CAR OFF BUT IT TAKES ME ABOUT 10 MIN TO WIGGLE THE KEY OUT. I HAVE TO TURN CAR ON OR HALFWAY ON AND OFF IN HOPES OF GETTING THE KEY OUT. THE GEAR SHIFT INDICATOR ON THE DASHBOARD READS AS THOUGH THE CAR IS IN PARK AND DRIVE AT THE SAME TIME. HONDA DOESN'T HAVE A RECALL FOR THIS BUT PER MY RESEARCH IT HAPPENS TO A LOT OF PEOPLE AND HAS TO BE MORE THAN A USER ERROR. I MAY HAVE TO PAY ALLTHIS MONEY TO GET SOMETHING FIXED THAT IS FAULTY IN THE CAR AND SHOULD BE REPLACED AS THE KEY SHOULD BE ABLE TO COME OUT WITH NO ISSUE. *TR
MY CAR IS BURNING OR LEAKING EXCESSIVE AMOUNTS OF OIL ...WITHIN A 2 YEAR PERIOD I'VE REPLACED 2- 02 SENSORS AND 2 -CATALYTIC CONVERTERS. THIS HAS LEAD TO REPLACEMENT OF MY ENTIRE EXHAUST SYSTEM AS WELL (HONDA SUGGESTED). I HAVE TO LITERALLY CARRY AROUND A GALLON OF OIL IN MY TRUNK DUE TO EXCESSIVE OIL BURNING/LEAKAGE. I'VE SPOKEN TO HONDA MANY TIMES BUT NOONE SEEMS TO KNOW WHY ITS BURNING SO MUCH OIL, I WAS TOLD HIGH MILEAGE AND TO USE A THICKER GRADE OF OIL. I DON'T HAVE MONEY TO KEEP THIS UP. I LIKE MY CAR BUT I'M VERY UNHAPPY AND FRUSTRATED, PLEASE HELP..THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING PROBLEM AND I'M JUST FINDING OUT THAT OTHERS HAVE BEEN HAVING THE SAME ISSUES. I HAVE "SOME" DOCUMENTATION BUT NOT MUCH, I WAS UNAWARE THIS WAS AN ISSUE WITH MORE THAN MYSELF. PLEASE HELP.
2003 HONDA ACCORD. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED PRIOR TO PURCHASING THE VEHICLE, THE TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED. THE TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED IN MARCH 2014. THE CONSUMER WONDERED IF THE TRANSMISSION WAS PROPERLY REPLACED BY HONDA. THE CONSUMER STATED THIS WILL BE THE THIRD TRANSMISSION. *JB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 HONDA ACCORD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE POWER STEERING HOSE WAS LEAKING FLUID AND THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL WINDING NOISE FROM THE STEERING WHEEL. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 12V222000 (STEERING) THE FOLLOWING DAY AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE POWER STEERING HOSE WAS REPLACED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ABNORMAL NOISE PERSISTED EVEN AFTER THE RECALL REPAIRS WERE PERFORMED. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TAKEN TO THE CONTACT?S INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS ADVISED THAT THE POWER STEERING PUMP HAD ALSO FAILED AS A RESULT OF LACK OF FLUID. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE INITIAL POWER STEERING HOSE FAILURE WAS THE CAUSE OF THE POWER STEERING PUMP FAILING. THE DEALER WAS ALSO CONTACTED AND ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE REPAIR WOULD NOT BE COVERED UNDER THE RECALL AND ANY FURTHER REPAIRS TO THE POWER STEERING COMPONENT WOULD BE AT HIS EXPENSE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALSO CONTACTED AND CONFIRMED THAT THEY WOULD TAKE NO LIABILITY FOR THE POWER STEERING PUMP FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT FURTHER REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 129,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 HONDA ACCORD. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 75 MPH, THE TRANSMISSION LOCKED AND THERE WAS A SUDDEN INCREASE IN ENGINE RPMS WITHOUT ANY WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 190,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 195,000.
DRIVING ALONG AND TRANSMISSION WOULD NOT SHIFT UP. STAYED IN A LOW GEAR, SLOWED DOWN TO SEE IF IT WOULD SHIFT INTO HIGHER GEAR AND WOULDN'T. PULLED OVER AND PUT SHIFTER INTO PARK. WAITED A COUPLE OF MINUTES AND PUT IT BACK INTO DRIVE. IT TOOK A MINUTE FOR IT TO ENGAGE. PULLED ONTO ROAD, AND AGAIN, IT STAYED IN LOW GEAR, REFUSING TO SHIFT HIGHER. PULLED OVER AGAIN, TRIED THE SAME THING AND EVEN TURNED THE CAR OFF. PULLED ONTO ROAD AND BEGAN TO DRIVE, STILL WOULD NOT SHIFT, THEN IT BEGAN TO STOP MOVING INTERMITTENTLY. IT WOULD MOVE SLIGHTLY, THEN STOP MOVING WHILE IN DRIVE. ALL I WOULD HEAR IS THE ENGINE REVVING, BUT CAR NOT MOVING. ACTED LIKE I WAS GOING FROM DRIVE TO NEUTRAL BUT CAR WAS STILL IN DRIVE. IT FINALLY QUITE ALTOGETHER ON A VERY NARROW,DANGEROUS STEEP UPHILL ROAD. HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED. *TR
THERE IS EXCESSIVE RUSTING ON THE: WHEEL WELLS AND IN SPOTS THROUGHOUT THE PAINTED SURFACES OF THE CAR. THE RUST ON THE PAINTED SURFACES DO NOT SEEM TO ORIGINATE FROM ANY DAMAGE TO THE PAINTS INTEGRITY (THEY START AS BUBBLES THAT THEN BREAK, SHOWING BARE METAL PAST THE PRIMER). I HAVE NOTICED THESE SINCE THE CAR'S FIRST YEAR OF OWNERSHIP (2003) AND NEW SPOTS APPEAR CONTINUOUSLY. THE CAR TRANSMISSION HAS ENGAGEMENT ISSUE AND HAD TO BE TOWED HOME IT BARELY MADE IT INTO GARAGE 2003 HONDA ACCORD I THOUGHT IT WILL LAST A BIT MORE THAN 108000 MILES. *TR
DRIVING CAR AT 35 MPH ON FEEDER ROAD, WENT TO ENTER FREEWAY SO ACCELERATE, CAR DID NOT ACCELERATE AND A BIG THUNK LIKE A BRICK FELL INTO ENGINE, CAR STALLED, RPMS ACCELERATED, CAR DID NOT. NOW DRIVES FINE UP TO 35 MPH BUT THAT'S IT. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER HAVING THE VEHICLE SERVICED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 12V222000 (STEERING), THE VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE FROM UNDER THE HOOD WITHOUT WARNING. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED AND THERE WERE NO INJURIES REPORTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS SCHEDULED FOR AN INSPECTION TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 186,000.
DURING A RECENT SNOW STORM, MY WIFE AND I DECIDED TO CARPOOL TO WORK IN OUR SUBARU AS IT HAS 4 WHEEL DRIVE. DURING THAT STORM TIME WE LEFT OUR 2003 HONDA ACCORD IN THE GARAGE FOR ABOUT 5 DAYS. AROUND DAY THREE OR FOUR, WE HEARD A LOUD NOTICE IN THE GARAGE BUT COLD NOT FIND THE CAUSE. THE NEXT WEEK, AFTER THE SNOW HAD MELTED, MY WIFE DROVE THE CAR TO WORK AND CALLED ME STATING THAT SOMETHING WAS HANGING FROM THE PASSENGER SEAT AND THAT THE STITCHING WAS ALL RIPPED OUT ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE PASSENGER SEAT. WHEN SHE GOT HOME I DISCOVERED THAT THE THING HANGING OUT OF THE SEAT WAS THE SRS SIDE CURTAIN AIRBAG. THE CAR HAS NOT BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT AND THERE IS NO SIGN OF ANY DAMAGE TO THE CAR. WE HAVE HAD AN INDEPENDENT INSURANCE ADJUSTER AND A HONDA DEALERSHIP INSPECT THE CAR. NO ONE CAN FIGURE OUT WHY THE AIR BAG "SPONTANEOUSLY DEPLOYED" OR HOW IT COULD HAVE HAPPENED. TO DATE, THE INSURANCE COMPANY HAS DENIED TO COVER THE DAMAGE UNDER OUR COMPREHENSIVE PLAN AND HONDA OF AMERICA IS TRYING TO AVOID FINANCIAL FOR REPLACING THE DEFECTIVE SYSTEM. *TR
TRANSMISSION WAS SLIPPING. THEN SUDDENLY CAR FELT LIKE SOMEONE SLAMMED ON THE BRAKES. TOOK CAR TO DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD TRANSMISSION WAS FAILING. THE TRANSMISSIONS ON THESE CARS WERE RECALLED IN 2004 WHEN AN OIL JET KIT WAS INSTALLED PER THE RECALL TO PROVIDE EXTRA LUBRICATION TO THE TRANSMISSION. TALKED TO HONDA AND THEY REFUSE TO PROVIDE ANY HELP WITH THESE MULTIPLE TRANSMISSION FAILURES. COST TO FIX THIS IS 4100.00 AT THE DEALERSHIP. *TR

HE OPEN THE SUN ROOF PORTAL AND FOUND THAT THE SUN ROOF GLASS HAD EXPLODED AND FRACTURED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. OVER THE LAST 4 MONTHS I HAVE EXPERIENCED INTERMITTENT WINDSHIELD WIPER STOPPAGE BUT WAS ABLE TO RESTART. HOWEVER, WHILE TRAVELING ON THE INTERSTATE FROM WORK, IT WAS RAINING WITH 20 / 25 MPH CROSS WINDS, AFTER TRAVELING 30 MILES @ 70 MPH THE WIPERS STOPPED WORKING AND DID NOT RESTART. I PULLED OVER ON THE SIDE OF THE INTERSTATE DUE TO POOR VISIBILITY AND CALLED FOR SOMEONE TO COME AND PICK ME UP. WE PICKED UP THE CAR THE NEXT DAY (WAS NOT RAINING). *TR

IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE TRYING TO SHIFT INTO PARK, THE SHIFTER KNOB FRACTURED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE SHIFTER KNOB PLATE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V700000 (AIR BAGS). I PURCHASED A USED 2003 HONDA ACCORD IN APRIL 2011. IT NOW HAS 132, 000 MILES ON IT. THIS WEEK I WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE WHEN MY "D" DRIVE ON MY HEAR START FLASHING IN MY CAR RPM STARTED REVVING UP & MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. SO I PUT MY EMERGENCY FLASHES ON TO GET THE SHOULDER OF THE EXPRESSWAY MY CAR. MY CAR WOULDN'T DRIVE ANYMORE IN THE D DRIVE SHIFT TO MAKE IT HOME SAFELY I HAD TO DRIVE MY CAR IN D3 ALL THE WAY HOME. MY MECHANIC IS NOW SAYING I NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION WHICH WILL COST ME $2500 I DON'T HAVE. I'VE DRIVEN HONDA ACCORD'S ALL MY LIFE THIS IS THE FIRST HONDA THAT I'VE HAD A MAJOR ISSUE WITH. *TR

DRIVER'S CAR (LEFT FRONT) KEYHOLE WON'T ACCEPT MY KEY, ELECTRONICALLY. I WENT TO DIFFERENT AUTO SERVICES AND HAVE THE SAME COMMENTS THAT MOST OF THE COMPLAINTS WERE THE SAME. I CHECKED THE INTERNET, YOUTUBE.COM, MANY OWNERS OF THE SAME MAKE, MODEL & YEAR HAVE THE SAME ISSUES AND PROBLEMS, EVEN THE HONDA CHAT ROOM HELP SITE. I THOUGHT THIS IS AN ISOLATED PROBLEM, BUT IT'S NOT, IF THERE IS SOME WAYS THAT YOUR COMPANY COULD DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS MATTER/ISSUE CONCERNING THE MANUFACTURER'S (HONDA) DEFECT ISSUE, PLEASE LET US KNOW, WE DON'T WANT TO SHOULDER TO EXPENSES ON THEIR BEHALF. THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR YOUR CONCERN AND LOOKING FORWARD TO HEARING FROM YOU THE SOONEST AND FOR THE IMMEDIATE RESPONSE TO REPAIR THE PROBLEM FOR THE INCONVENIENCE THAT WE ARE EXPERIENCING FOR A LONG TIME. ALL OTHER KEYHOLES ARE FUNCTIONING WELL, EXCEPT THE DRIVER'S KEYHOLE. *TR
WHEN THE VEHICLE IS STARTED THE AIRBAG LIGHT IN THE DASH DOESN'T ALWAYS GO OUT. THIS IS INTERMITTENT, OCCURS MORE OFTEN ON RAINY DAYS, AND WHEN SERVICED MECHANIC SAID IT WAS PROBABLY THE SENSOR, BUT WHEN PUT ON DIAGNOSTIC MACHINE, SAID NOTHING WAS WRONG. NOW THERE'S A RECALL BUT ONLY IN HUMID STATES(?). WHAT ON EARTH IS RAIN BUT HIGH HUMIDITY? ADDITIONALLY I BOUGHT ALL OF MY HONDAS (3) USED SO I DON'T KNOW IF THEY WERE ORIGINALLY SOLD IN A "KNOWN HUMID STATE". *TR
I WAS DRIVING MY 2003 HONDA ACCORD EX,V6, ON THE FREEWAY AT 70 MPH WHEN MY CAR WENT INTO A FRONT WHEEL LOCKED SKID. THE DURATION OF THE UNSUSPECTED SKID WAS LESS THAN ONE SECOND, BUT I ALMOST LOST CONTROL OF MY CAR. SEVERAL SECONDS LATER, AT 50 MPH, MY VEHICLE AGAIN WENT INTO A UNSUSPECTED FRONT WHEEL SKID, WITH A DURATION OF LESS THAN A SECOND. THERE WAS NO WARNING LIGHT NOTIFICATION. THE CAUSE OF THE FRONT WHEEL LOCKED SKID WAS THE TRANSMISSION CLUTCH WAS BURNED OUT ON GEARS #5 AND #3. MY VEHICLE TRANSMISSION FLUID AND FILTER WAS CHANGED EVERY 30,000. THIS NOTIFICATION IS FOR PUBLIC SAFETY. AMERICAN HONDA CORPORATION WAS NOTIFIED AND THEY FELT I SHOULD INVESTIGATE THIS INCIDENT AT MY OWN EXPENSE. *TR
I BOUGHT MY CAR USED AND GRANTED IT HAS ALMOST 200,000 MILES ON IT BUT I TRUSTED IN HONDA THAT IT WAS A GOOD CAR NOW MY TRANSMISSION HAS GONE OUT AND I HAVEN'T HAD MY CAR A YEAR YET GRANTED I'M DISAPPOINTED IN HONDA BC I HAVE READ SEVERAL FORUMS ABOUT 2003 ACCORDS HAVE TRANSMISSION ISSUES WITH WAY LESS MILEAGE THAN MINE HONDA REALLY NEEDS TO INVESTIGATE THIS ISSUE. IT'S CHRISTMAS TIME AND I'M OUT A CAR I WOULD FIX THE TRANSMISSION ON THIS VEHICLE BUT IT'S NO POINT IN DOING 3000 DOLLARS WORTH OF WORK ON A CAR WHEN I OWE MORE THAN THAT ON IT AND I HAVE ALREADY HAD TO REPLACE ENGINE MOUNTS, THERMOSTAT, CRANK SHAFT PULLEY. *TR
VEHICLE TRANSMISSION HAS BEEN HESITATING FOR OVER A YEAR. DEALERSHIP INSISTED THAT THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG. TWO MONTHS AGO I WAS TOLD THE REAR MAIN SEAL MAY NEED TO BE REPLACED SOON. THREE DAYS AGO THE CAR VIOLENTLY SHIFTED INTO A LOWER GEAR AND NEARLY CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO BE REAR ENDED. I'M TOLD THAT THE TRANSMISSION NOW NEEDS TO BE REBUILT OR REPLACED. HE FIRST TOLD ME THAT BECAUSE MY CAR WAS OVER 120K MILE HONDA WOULD NOT PROVIDE ANY GOODWILL ASSISTANCE, I REMINDED HIM MY CAR WAS AT 115K MILE, HE WAS THEN FLUSTERED AND SAID WELL I MEAN 100K MILE OR WHATEVER. *TR
AROUND DECEMBER 2012 I STARTED NOTICING A LOUD WHINING NOISE COMING FROM THE POWER STEERING PUMP ON A COLD START ALONG WITH A WHINING NOISE WHEN SLIGHTLY ROCKING THE STEERING WHEEL BACK AND FORTH. AFTER A COUPLE OF MINUTES OF THE CAR WARMING UP THE NOISE GOES AWAY. NOW I HAVE RECEIVED A RECALL LETTER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 12V222000 JUST RECALLING THE POWER STEERING HOSE TO BE REPLACED. (LETTER RECEIVED ON 3/12/2014) I IMMEDIATELY TOOK MY VEHICLE TO THE DEALER ON 3/13/2014 AND HAD THE HOSE REPLACED UNDER THE RECALL AND ALSO PAID FOR THEM TO GO AHEAD AND REPLACE THE O-RING IN THE OTHER HOSE TO SEE IF THAT WAS THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM ALSO. THEY STATED WITHOUT A DIAGNOSTIC TEST THEY WOULDN'T KNOW FOR SURE IF IT IS THE STEERING PUMP OR NOT (UNDERSTANDABLE), BUT WHEN MY CAR WAS FINISHED, THE SERVICE TECH INFORMED ME THAT THE MECHANIC DISCOVERED MY RACK AND PINION ARE NOW LEAKING FLUID AND WANT TO CHARGE ME $1,220.00 PLUS TAX TO FIX AND NOT TO MENTION THAT I STILL DO NOT KNOW YET IF THE POWER STEERING PUMP HAS NOW GONE BAD BECAUSE OF THIS. I FIND THIS TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE AND I BELIEVE THE WHOLE POWER STEERING SYSTEM IS FAULTY AND SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER RECALL. *TR
MY TRANSMISSION AND TORQUE CONVERTER FAILED ON BROWNSVILLE ROAD. I CALLED HONDA WHO REFUSED ANY TYPE OF ASSISTANCE. THEY SAID IT WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. I HAVE HAD NUMEROUS CARS IN MY LIFE AND NEVER HEARD OF THE TRANSMISSION DYING. IT SEEMS, AS I CHECK THE INTERNET, THAT THE HONDA ACCORD V-6 HAS A HISTORY OF TRANSMISSION FAILURES. TO DATE, HONDA REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE THAT ISSUE.
THIS IS A 2003 ACCORD EXL 6 CYLINDER WITH AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. UNDER NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS WE NOTICED IN THE LATER MONTHS OF 2013 THAT THE TRANSMISSION SEEMED TO SLIP WHEN IT SHIFTED FROM 2ND TO 3RD GEAR. AS OF FEBRUARY 23RD IT HAS GOTTEN WORSE. WE HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE HONDA DEALER WHO TOLD US THAT IT WAS INDEED A TRANSMISSION PROBLEM. THIS WAS CONFIRMED BY A 3RD PARTY MECHANIC WHO ALSO TOLD US THAT THE TRANSMISSION FLUID WAS TURNING BROWN AND SHOWING SIGNS OF TURNING BLACK. AS WE LIVE IN THE COUNTRY, THIS AUTOMOBILE HAS BEEN DRIVEN ON THE HIGHWAY FOR WELL OVER 50% OF THE TIME. WE HAVE ALWAYS COME TO A COMPLETE STOP BEFORE SHIFTING THE TRANSMISSION FROM OR TO ANOTHER GEAR. THE CAR HAS NOT BEEN ABUSED. THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM! NAPLES, FL AIRPORT ROAD AND DAVIS BLVD. I WAS LEAVING A MEETING AND HEADED NORTHBOUND ON AIRPORT ROAD AT 3:55PM ON TUESDAY, OCTOBER 15TH. I WAS APPROACHING THE STOPLIGHT AT THE INTERSECTION ON AIRPORT ROAD AND DAVIS BLVD. WHEN I TRIED TO BREAK, THE RPM'S ON MY HONDA ACCORD ROSE FROM 1000 TO 2000 TO 3000 AND I NOTICED AS I CONTINUED TO BREAK THE RPM'S KEPT INCREASING AND THE CAR KEPT ROLLING EVEN THOUGH I WAS PRESSING ON THE BREAK AS HARD AS I COULD, I WAS LITERALLY STANDING ON THE BREAK. FINALLY I WAS SO AFRAID I WAS GOING TO HIT THE PERSON IN FRONT OF ME THAT I PULLED THE EMERGENCY BREAK ON AND THEN THE RPM'S WENT UP TO 5000. THE CAR FINALLY STOPPED AND I IMMEDIATELY SHUT IT OFF, I WAS INCHES FROM THE BUMPER IN FRONT OF ME. I WAITED ABOUT FIVE SECONDS AND TURNED THE CAR BACK ON AND IT WENT RIGHT UP TO 5000 RPM'S. I THEN JUMPED OUT OF THE CAR AND ASKED THE PERSON BEHIND ME TO HELP ME. HE TURNED THE CAR ON AGAIN AND AGAIN IT REVVED UP TO 5000 RPM'S. I CONTACTED AMERICAN HONDA CUSTOMER MOTOR CUSTOMER SERVICE TO REPORT THE INCIDENT AND AFTER DESCRIBING THE EVENT WAS TOLD TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR EVALUATION. CLEARLY THIS IS A DEFECTIVE PRODUCT AND A HAZARD TO SAFETY WHEN THE TRANSMISSION FAILS. THE TELEPHONE REPRESENTATIVE THAT I SPOKE TO SAID HONDA HAD NO INFORMATION ON TRANSMISSION ?LOCKUPS? OR UNSAFE CONDITIONS REGARDING THIS PARTICULAR VEHICLE. I TOLD HER THAT AFTER THE TRANSMISSION LOCKUP HAPPENED I RESEARCHED THIS CONDITION AND FOUND THAT HONDA HAS IN FACT EXTENDED THE DRIVETRAIN WARRANTY ON THIS MODEL VEHICLE AS THE RESULT OF A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT. AT THAT POINT SHE ENDED THE CONVERSATION BY HANGING UP THE PHONE AND NOT ATTEMPTING TO CALL ME BACK AFTER SHE HAS REQUESTED A CALLBACK NUMBER AT THE BEGINNING OF THE CALL. THIS TRANSMISSION DESIGN IS FAULTY AND SHOULD BE RECALLED DUE TO SAFETY CONSIDERATIONS. ON 8/20/2013 THEY FILLED & DRAINED TRANSMISSION 3 TIMES (MILEAGE 51,507). THEY SAID ALL WAS FINE. ON 9/11/2013 TRANSMISSION WON'T SHIFT OUT OF PARK, USED EMERGENCY PROCEDURE OUT OF OWNERS MANUAL TO GET IT OUT OF PARK (MILEAGE 51,811). DEALER SAYS IT'S THE ECU (PART#37820RAD415) $1000 TO REPAIR, I'M STILL NOT SURE THIS IS THE ISSUE, IT COULD BE THE TRANSMISSION. HONDA USA SAYS "WE DON'T CARE" DUE TO THE AGE & MILEAGE. SERIOUSLY? GRANTED, THE VEHICLE IS 10 YEARS OLD WITH 90K MILES, I WAS A LITTLE DISHEARTEN. I WAS ABLE TO FIND A TRANSMISSION SPECIALIST IN THE AREA WHERE THEY ARE REBUILDING THE TRANSMISSION FOR $2800. I AM EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED IN HONDA AND ESPECIALLY WITH THEIR REPUTATION FOR DEPENDABILITY. I STRONGLY FEEL THAT HONDA IS AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM AND NEEDS TO RECTIFY THE ISSUE AND COMPENSATE ALL HONDA OWNERS WHO HAVE HAD THIS SIMILAR ISSUE. *TR
