I WAS DRIVING WHEN ALL OF THE SUDDEN THE RADIO PANEL WENT BLACK, THE RADIO WORKS AS WELL AS THE CD (IT IS A HONDA ACCORD V6 2004 SEDAN) YET ALL THE INFORMATION ON THE DISPLAY DISSAPEAR
RADIO TURNS OFF, DISPLAY GOES DIM, NOW HAS STARTED TO MAKE A LOUD NOISE. *TR
THE DISPLAY LIGHT FOR MY RADIO, LIGHTS FOR HVAC SYSTEM SLOWLY DIMMED AND EVENTUALLY WENT OUT. TOOK THE 2004 HONDA ACCORD EX TO A LOCAL DEALER WITH AN APPOINTMENT AND A FULL DESCRIPTION OF THE PROBLEM. AFTER THEY PERFORMED THEIR TROUBLESHOOTING I WAS INFORMED THAT A CHIP FOR THE RADIO FAILED. THANKFULLY THEY WERE HOLDING THE COMPONENT FOR ANOTHER CUSTOMER WHO HAD NOT COME BACK FOR THE REPAIR AND THE NEXT DAY THE DISPLAY LIGHTS WERE REPAIRED. *TR
I WAS DRIVING HOME MY HONDA ACCORD EX V6 (2004) AND IT SLIPPED OUT OF GEAR BETWEEN 2ND GEAR AND 3RD GEAR. I TRIED TO GET TO A REPAIR SHOP AND WITHIN A FEW MORE MILES OF DRIVING ALL GEARS STOPPED WORKING STRANDING ME IN TRAFFIC. MY 2004 CAR HAS APPROX 120,000 MILES AND IS 3 YEARS AND 7 MONTHS OLD. AS ITS NOT UNDER WARRANTY I TOWED TO A TRANSMISSION SHOP WHO SAY THE TRANSMISSION IS SHOT AND NEEDS REPLACING FOR $1,500.00. IT LOOKS LIKE NOW ON THIS SITE THAT THERE MAY BE A TROUBLE WITH THIS ACCORD AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION? CAN I BE REIMBURSED FOR THIS EXPENSE? *JB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 HONDA ACCORD. WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH THE VEHICLE AUTOMATICALLY ACCELERATED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL. HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO STOP. THE VEHICLE AUTOMATICALLY SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL. THE HONDA DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. T THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 18,000. *AK
I WENT TO HONDA DEALERSHIP FOR ROUTINE MAINTENANCE ON CAR. THE MECHANIC CAME OUT AND TOLD ME MY REAR BRAKES WERE NEARLY WORN OUT AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CAR HAD 20,959 ACTUAL MILES ON THESE BRAKES. I HAD THEM REPLACED AT MY EXPENSE EVEN THOUGH I FELT THIS WAS HIGHLY UNUSUAL. NOW MY FRONT ROTORS ARE GIVING ME PROBLEMS AT 23,000 MILES. THE CAR JERKS WHEN THE BRAKES ARE APPLIED AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. I CALLED HONDA.....WAS TOLD THEY HADN'T HAD ANY PROBLEMS OR COMPLAINTS, BUT I SEE SAME PROBLEM POSTED ON THIS SITE. *TR
1. CAR WOULD NOT START. CALLED AAA, JUMP STARTED. BATTERY WAS FULLY CHARGED. NO APPARENT REASON FOR NOT STARTING. NO FURTHER PROBLEMS. 2004 HONDA ACCORD ON APRIL 3, 2007. 2. NEIGHBOR HAS 2006 HONDA ACCORD. HE STARTED AND WAS BACKING OUT OF DRIVEWAY AND THE CAR STALLED HALF WAY ONTO STREET AND WOULD NOT START. TAKEN TO DEALER. NO PROBLEM FOUNDON APRIL 9,2007. COULD BE DANGEROUS IF HAPPENED ON ROAD.*AK
TRANSMISSION RECALL ON HONDA ACCORD. HONDA INSPECTED TRANSMISSION AND CLAIMED RECALL FIXED. TRANSMISSION ULTIMATELY FAILED ON BUSY PALMETTO EXPRESSWAY, ALMOST CRASHED AT LEAST 3 TIMES. TOOK CAR TO DEALER. FORCED TO PAY $865.74, HONDA CLAIMED IT WAS FOR LABOR WHEN HONDA SHOULD HAVE PAID FOR TRANSMISSION FAILURE DUE TO RECALL. *AK
REAR BRAKES WORE OUT AT 29,000 MILES. PISTONS STICKING, CALIPERS RECONDITIONED, NEED NEW HARDWARE, NEW ROTORS, NEW BRAKE PADS. HONDA MAINTAINS THAT THE CAR IS OPERATING AS DESIGNED AND THESE ARE NORMAL ITEMS THAT NEED TO BE REPLACED AT 29,000 MILES. *JB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 HONDA ACCORD WITH A CURRENT AND FAILURE ODOMETER READING OF 63,000 MILES. THE CONTACT HAD THE TRANSMISSION SERVICED, AND THE NEXT DAY WHEN SHE DROVE THE VEHICLE THE TRANSMISSION FAILED. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER , HONDA OF CLEAR LAKE, AND THEY TOLD THE CONTACT THAT THE PC CLUTCH FAILED, OUTPUT SHAFT WAS STUCK, AND THE COUNTER SHAFT HAD NO SIGNAL. THE DEALER TOLD THE CONTACT THAT SHE WOULD HAVE TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION. *AK
MY HUSBAND AND I PURCHASED A 2004 HONDA ACCORD. BEFORE BRINGING THE CAR BACK TO AUTOFAIR HONDA IN MANCHESTER, NEW HAMPSHIRE; WE REPORTED NUMEROUS TIMES OF A BURNING SMELL COMING FROM THE CAR. THE SMELL WAS SO BAD THAT WE CALLED OUR CITY'S FIRE DEPARTMENT. THE FIREFIGHTERS COULD SEE AND SMELL THE SMOKE COMING FROM THE ENGINE. WE MADE THE OWNER OF THE DEALERSHIP AWARE OF THE PROBLEMS WITH THE CAR AND NEVER ONCE DID THE DEALERSHIP PUT THE CAR UP ON THE LIFT OR DO A COMPUTER TEST TO FIND THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM. HOWEVER, WITH KNOWLEDGE OF THE PROBLEM THEY RESOLD THE CAR TO ANOTHER PARTY WITHOUT FIXING THE PROBLEM. *TR
(1) ENOUGH ACCUMULATED DRIVING HOURS WILL CAUSE THE FAILURE, PER HONDA SERVICE BULLETIN 04-027, AND ONLINE INFORMATION: THE RESISTOR IN THE AUDIO UNIT OVER TIME WILL BE HEATED UP AND FAIL DUE TO A DESIGN DEFECT, RESISTOR" TOO CLOSE TO THE A HEAT SINK. 2) CD/AC/FAN UNIT DISPLAY WENT DARK. CONSEQUENTLY, THE DEFROSTER CANNOT BE RELIABLY SET, CAUSING A DRIVING HAZARD, ESPECIALLY IN THE WET PACIFIC NW AND AT NIGHT. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE, NOT JUST THE CD DISPLAY. (3) NO ONE WILL CONTACT DEALERSHIP. THIS IS A COMPLAINT AGAINST THE VEHICLE, NOT TO THE DEALERSHIP.*AK
BROUGHT NEW CAR IN 2004, CURRENTLY WITH 74,500 MILES, BUSHINGS INSIDE OF LOWER TRANSMISSION CONNECTED TO DRIVESHAFT FAILURE, CONSEQUENCES CONSTANT VIBRATION WHILE DRIVING RESULT IN HARD BREAKING TO CONTROL, REPLACED DRIVESHAFT BUT BUSHINGS INSIDE TRANSMISSION WORN DUE TO EXCESSIVE HEATING WITHIN TRANSMISSION, RECALL WAS DONE ON 2004 HONDA ACCORD TRANSMISSION BUT AMERICAN HONDA CLAIMS THAT IT WAS VIN SPECIFIC. *JB
TL* - THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 HONDA ACCORD. THE CONTACT DROVE TO THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THE SEAT BELT REPAIRED, A DISTANCE OF 10 MILES AFTER BEING TOLD THAT THE DEALER HAD THE PART, WHEN HE ARRIVED HE WAS TOLD THAT THEY DID NOT HAVE THE PART. THE CONTACT WAS ANGRY THAT HE WASTED HIS TIME. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE WERE BOTH 25000.*AK
FEB. 2007, APPROXIMATELY 60,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE, WHILE DRIVING ON FREEWAY MIDDLE LANE, ENGINE STARTED RACING, LOST ACCELERATION. WAS FORTUNATE TO GET TO THE SHOULDER WITHOUT CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. THROUGH AN EXTENDED WARRANTY WHICH I PAID FOR, GOT A NEW TRANSMISSION INSTALLED BY HONDA. SINCE I HAD NOT USED THE WARRANTY BEFORE, THE PREMIUM ON THE WARRANTY WOULD HAVE BEEN REIMBURSED TO ME HAD THE TRANSMISSION NOT HAD TO BE REPLACED. AFTER 70,000 MILES ON THE SECOND TRANSMISSION, THE SAME EXACT INCIDENT OCCURRED AGAIN ON JULY 6TH 2012. I CONTACTED HONDA AND WAS TOLD THAT THERE HAS NOT BEEN A HIGH AMOUNT OF COMPLAINTS WITH 2004 ACCORD TRANSMISSIONS. HONDA ALSO CLAIMS THAT THERE HAVE NOT BEEN ANY RECALLS OR EXTENDED FACTORY WARRANTIES. I HAVE DOCUMENTATION THAT BOTH TRANSMISSIONS HAVE BEEN MAINTAINED TO HONDA SPECIFICATIONS. VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY HAVING A THIRD TRANSMISSION INSTALLED. *TR
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
2004 HONDA ACCORD WITH AIR BAG THAT DEPLOYED FOR NO REASON CUSTOMER WANTS TO REIMBURSED FOR REPAIRS**CC THE CONSUMER WAS TOLD THAT THE AIR BAG DEPLOYED BECAUSE SOMETHING MAY HAVE TRIGGERED THE AIR BAG SENSOR. *JB
TL* - THE CONTACT STATED HAD A PULSATING VIBRATION WHEN TURNING. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WEATHER AND SPEED WERE NOT A FACTOR WHEN THIS HAPPENED. THE CONTACT TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER , THEY RECOGNIZED THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM, BUT THEY COULD NOT DIAGNOSE IT, THEY CALLED THE MANUFACTURER, AND WERE TOLD THAT THE PULSATING VIBRATION WAS NORMAL. *AK
2004 HONDA ACCORD LX V6 WITH SAFETY RECALLS**NAR**CC WHILE ACCELERATING FROM A STOP, THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION EXHIBITED A PROBLEM SHIFTING INTO SECOND GEAR. THE CONSUMER DID SOME RESEARCH ONLINE AND FOUND A NHTSA RECALL (O4V176000) WHICH ADDRESSED THE PROBLEM THE CONSUMER WAS HAVING WITH THE VEHICLE. THE CONSUMER ALSO FOUND A RECALL ON THE FRONTAL AIR BAGS (04V551000). THE CONSUMER NEVER RECEIVED ANY RECALL NOTICES. *NM
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 HONDA ACCORD. WHEN THE CONTACT STARTED THE IGNITION, THE SRS AIR BAG WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE FAILURE OCCURRED SPONTANEOUSLY REGARDLESS IF THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION OR AT START- UP AND WHETHER THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT WAS OCCUPIED OR UNOCCUPIED. THE CONTACT STATED THERE WAS A RECALL WHICH COULD POSSIBLY BE RELATED TO THE SRS DEFECT, RECALL 07V001000 (AIR BAGS: FRONTAL: SENSOR/CONTROL MODULE). THE AUTHORIZED DEALER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND THEY INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT HER VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. DEFECTIVE BODY PAINT (BLACK). CLEAR COAT/PAINT PEELING. LOCAL HONDA'S DEALER HAVE MADE SEVERAL EXCUSES OVER THE YEARS. I JUST FOUND OUT LAST YEAR FROM ANOTHER OWNER THAT HAS THE SAME MODEL/COLOR. LOCAL DEALER AND HONDA'S CORPORATE OFFICE WILL NOT RESOLVE ISSUE. ONLY CIVIC NOT ACCORD MODELS ARE BEING REPAINTED FOR FREE. *TR
PAINT ON THE HOOD IS PEELING OFF, THE LIGHT ON THE RADIO,AC. CD STEERING WHEEL AND DOORS ARE NOT WORKING.
MY WIFE WAS DRIVING TO WORK BETWEEN 35-40 MPH ON A CLEAR DAY WHEN THE SIDE AIR BAG CURTAIN DEPLOYED FOR NO REASON. THE DRIVERS SIDE SEAT BAG PARTIALLY DEPLOYED. LUCKILY, SHE WAS ABLE TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE, BRING IT TO A STOP AND WE HAD IT TOWED TO THE HONDA DEALER. MY WIFE HELEN, HAD TEMPORARY HEARING LOSS (SEVERAL HOURS) AS A RESULT OF THE CURTAINS DEPLOYING. EVEN THOUGH THE CAR IS UNDER WARRANTY HONDA HAS SO FAR REFUSED TO FIX THE PROBLEM AND AFTER EXAMINING THE CAR COULD FIND NO REASON FOR THE CURTAINS TO DEPLOY. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PLACED IN REVERSE WITH SLIGHT BRAKE PRESSURE APPLIED, THERE WAS A PRONOUNCED VIBRATION PHYSICALLY FELT WITHIN THE ENTIRE VEHICLE FOLLOWED BY THE VEHICLE LURCHING BACKWARDS INTO A FENCE. THERE WAS MINOR DAMAGE TO THE REAR FENDER AREA, AND NO INJURIES WERE SUSTAINED. THE POLICE WERE NOT ALERTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. UPDATED 12/18/2006 - THE SUDDEN ACCELERATION FAILURE OCCURRED TWICE. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHEN THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS WERE TURNED ON IN THE RAIN; THE FRONT RIGHT WIPER SCRATCHED THE WINDSHIELD. THE WIPER WAS TURNED OFF AND THE CONTACT PULLED THE WIPER ARM AWAY FROM THE WINDSHIELD TO ADJUST THE BLADE WHEN THE WIPER ARM FRACTURED. THE SERVICE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED.
WHILE DRIVING IN TRAFFIC, MAINLY AT A STAND STILL, THE BRAKE PEDAL WILL REACH THE BOTTOM STOP AND NOT PUSH ANYMORE. THE CAR HAS NOT YET EVER FAILED TO STOP. NORMAL BRAKING REQUIRES NO EFFORT WHATSOEVER AND THERE IS NO RESISTANCE FELT. THE PEDAL WILL NORMALLY FALL TO BELOW THAT OF THE ACCELERATOR AND ON A MANUAL TRANSMISSION CAR, IT MAKES HEEL/TOE DRIVING IMPOSSIBLE. I HAVE HAD THE ROTORS BOTH FRONT AND REAR WARP. THE BRAKES HAVE BEEN BLED TWICE NOW, WHICH RESULTS IN A SLIGHT IMPROVEMENT IN PEDAL FEEL FOR A SHORT DURATION. WHEN THE PEDAL DROPPED TO THE STOP, I CALLED AND MADE AN APPOINTMENT AT THE DEALER. THEY STATED THAT OPERATION IS NORMAL AT THIS TIME, EVEN WHEN I REQUESTED THEY DRIVE ANOTHER CAR BACK TO BACK WITH MINE, AS I DID. THIS IS HOW I KNOW THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG, AS THE OTHER TWO CARS I'VE DRIVEN RECENTLY HAVE A MUCH HIGHER AND FIRMER FEELING PEDAL THAN MY CAR. I HAVE HEARD OF SEVERAL OTHER COMPLAINTS FROM OTHER HONDA OWNERS, AND IF THE HONDA TECHLINE IS CALLED, THERE IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THE ABS/TCS UNIT BYPASSING PRESSURE CAUSING THE LOW, ODD FEELING PEDAL. *NM
THE SRS (SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM) DASH LIGHT COMES ON AND WILL NOT GO OFF UNTIL THE PART IS REPLACED. THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THE AIRBAGS WOULD NOT OPERATE OR WOULD NOT OPERATE PROPERLY IF A WRECK OCCURRED BECAUSE THE PART WAS "BAD". I WAS PROVIDED A RENTAL CAR WHILE THE PART WAS REPLACED. PREVIOUS RESEARCH REVEALED A PREVIOUS INVESTIGATION INTO THIS PROBLEM ON THE 2001 HONDA ACCORD. (WHY IS THE SAME DEFECTIVE PART STILL BEING USED?). *JB
DRIVING DOWN ROAD @ 40 MPH, IN A 2004 HONDA ACCORD LX, THE PASSENGER SEAT SIDE AIR BAG DEPLOYED FOR NO APPARENT REASON, INJURING THE PASSENGER. AT THIS POINT, NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE TO REPAIR THE DAMAGES BY HONDA OF AMERICA OR STATE FARM INSURANCE COMPANY DUE TO IT'S RARE CIRCUMSTANCES. HONDA TECHNICIANS AND THEIR DISTRICT MANAGER SAID THEY FOUND NO GOOD REASON FOR DEPLOYMENT. THEY TESTED THE AIRBAG PARTS AFTER THE DEPLOYMENT, AND THEY ARE CURRENTLY STILL FUNCTIONING PROPERLY. THEORIZING, THEY COMMENTED THAT A BOLT MAY HAVE SMACKED UP UNDER THE CAR AND HIT A SENSOR, CREATING A FREQUENCY MIMICKING THE SOUND OF AN IMPACT. ACCORDING TO THE HONDA TECHNICIANS, THESE SIDE AIR BAGS ARE ACTIVATED/ACTUATED ON FREQUENCY SO THE SECOND THEY HEAR A CRUNCH OR GLASS BREAK, THEY SHOOT OUT. HE SAID THAT IF SOMETHING CREATED A SOUND SIMILAR TO THAT OF AN ACCIDENT OR VEHICLE IMPACT, THAT THEY COULD GO OFF. SO, CAR STILL IS NOT REPAIRED, AND HAS BEEN CHECKED BY HONDA AND STATE FARM ADJUSTORS. NEITHER HAS FOUND ANY AMOUNT OF DAMAGE TO SUGGEST ANYTHING OUT OF THE ORDINARY WAS HIT ON THE ROADWAY, JUST A SMALL SCRATCH ON THE BOTTOM OF THE CAR, WHICH MAY OR MAY NOT HAVE BEEN THE CULPRIT. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE APPLYING BRAKE WHILE TRAVELING DOWNHILL, THE BRAKE PEDAL EXTENDED ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR BOARD AND THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED FORWARD CRASHING INTO A TREE. THE CONTACT WAS WEARING A SEAT BELT, AND NO INJURIES WERE SUSTAINED. THE VEHICLE SUSTAINED MINOR DAMAGE. THE POLICE WERE NOT ALERTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM OR FIND ANYTHING WRONG. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALERTED. UPDATED 11/30/2006 - *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH ON A DRY FREEWAY, THE DRIVER'S AIR BAG DEPLOYED WITHOUT INCIDENT. THE CONTACT DID NOT HIT ANYTHING IN THE ROAD NOR DRIVE OVER A BUMP IN THE ROAD PRIOR TO THE INCIDENT. THE AIR BAG LIGHT HAD NOT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS PUSHED OFF OF THE ROAD AND REMAINED ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD PENDING A TOW TRUCK. THERE WERE INJURIES SUSTAINED. THE DEALERSHIP WAS NOT NOTIFIED. *AK
PARKING BRAKE RELEASED ON IT'S OWN WHILE REMOVING BOAT FROM WATERWAY AND CAR ROLLED INTO WATER AND WAS COMPLETELY SUBMERGED. *NM
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 HONDA ACCORD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD EXHIBIT AN UNUSUAL CLICKING NOISE FROM THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE WHEN ATTEMPTING A TURN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THEY WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT FOUR YEARS AFTER THE FAILURE WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, THE VEHICLE BECAME UN RESPONSIVE TO THE CONTACTS ATTEMPTS TO ACCELERATE. THE CONTACT INQUIRED ABOUT NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 04V176000 (POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION) BUT WAS TOLD THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE DEALER ALSO ADVISED THAT THE FRONT AXLE AND TIE RODS WOULD NEED REPLACING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 29,764 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 94,200.
THERE IS A RECALL ON MY 2004 HONDA ACCORD DRIVERS SIDE AIR BAG. IN FEBRUARY I CONTACTED HONDA IN TORRANCE CALIFORNIA ACCORDING TO INSTRUCTIONS EXPLAINING MY SITUATION. I AM TEACHING OVERSEAS IN A DOD SCHOOL AND NEEDED TO GET A EUROPEAN HONDA DEALER TO FIX THE CAR. THEY SAID JUST CONTACT THE EUROPEAN DEALER. I DID AND AFTER 3 MONTHS SAID THEY DID NOT HAVE THE PROPER BAG. THEY WOULD HAVE TO ORDER IT FROM THE USA. I HAVE NOT HEARD BACK FROM THEM AFTER TWO INQUIRIES. AGAIN I CALLED TORRANCE CALIFORNIA(AMERICAN HONDA HEADQUARTERS. THIS TIME JULY 2006, THE GIRL SAID, OH YES YOU DID CALL IN FEBRUARY. CAN I SPEAK TO A SUPERVISOR. NO. SHE WOULD SEND IT TO A CASE MANAGER. ABOUT ONE WEEK LATER A MANAGER CALLS MY WIFE AT WORK AND TELLS HER THEY ONLY HAVE BROWN AND GREY AIR BAGS NO BLACK ONES IN THE ENTIRE USA. AND THEY DO NOT KNOW WHEN THEY WILL GET THEM IN IF AT ALL. SHE SAID OUR CAR'S ENTIRE INTERIOR IS BLACK WE NEED TO HAVE BLACK TO MAINTAIN THE QUALITY IN CASE WE HAVE TO SELL THE CAR. NO WAY IS THIS POSSIBLE. YOU CAN HAVE THE GREY OR TAKE A CHANCE ON THE ONE YOU HAVE BEING DEFECTIVE. THIS IS ABSURD. REAR DISC BRAKE PADS ON 2004 HONDA ACCORD EX WORE DOWN QUICKLY AND UNEVENLY, WITHIN 30,000 MILES. REPLACEMENT WAS AT OWNER'S EXPENSE. SUCH SHORT BRAKE LIFE IS INDICATIVE OF A DEFECTIVELY OR INADEQUATELY DESIGNED REAR DISC BRAKE SYSTEM AND COULD POTENTIALLY BE A SAFETY ISSUE. SEARCHED THE WEB AND FOUND THAT RAPID REAR DISC BRAKE WEAR IS COMMON ON LATE-MODEL HONDA ACCORDS. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY A DEALER WHO WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE ENGINE STALLING. AFTERWARDS, THE PROBLEM PERSISTED AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER TO AWAIT FURTHER INSPECTION.

THE PROBLEM RETURNED, THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER TODAY FOR THE SAME PROBLEM AND IT WAS DETERMINED THE ROTORS NEED TO BE REPLACED AGAIN. THE POLICE WERE ON THE SCENE AND A REPORT WAS TAKEN. THE VEHICLE WAS SEEN BY THE DEALER. THE DEALER REPLACED THE STEERING GEARBOX AND TIE ROD ASSEMBLY, BUT AFTERWARDS THE STEERING MADE A GRINDING NOISE.
UNINTENDED ACCELERATION CAR SHIFT LEVER WAS IN D3 AND THE BRAKE WAS DOWN WHEN THE ENGINE STARTED REVVING UP AND DOWN AS IF IN NEUTRAL. THINKING THE RACING NOISE WAS FROM ANOTHER VEHICLE THE DRIVER RELEASED THE BRAKE IN PREPARATION OF DRIVING. THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY LURCHED FORWARD BURNING RUBBER. RE-APPLYING THE BRAKES BROUGHT IT TO A STOP. AT THAT POINT IT WAS NOTICED THE GEAR SELECTOR WAS ON D3 RATHER THAN D. THE GEAR WAS PUT INTO DRIVE AND ALL SEEMED OK. THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED LATER AND NO WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON. THE ONLY UNUSUAL THING WAS THAT WE HAD JUST USED THE VEHICLE TO JUMP START ANOTHER. *NM
MY VEHICLE BEGAN TO EXPERIENCE TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS ON FEBRUARY 14TH, 2005: THE GEARS WOULD ENGAGE HARSHLY WHEN ACCELERATING ON CITY STREETS AND ON FREEWAY ON-RAMPS. THERE WERE A FEW INSTANCES WHEN THE ENGINE "OVER-REVVED" ON THE FREEWAY BECAUSE OF A SHIFTING PROBLEM. I EXPERIENCED TOTAL TRANSMISSION FAILURE ON FEBRUARY 14TH, 2005, WHILE DRIVING ON CITY STREETS. THE VEHICLE WAS INOPERABLE, AND HAD TO BE TAKEN TO A MECHANIC. I WAS TOLD BY THE MECHANIC THAT THE TRANSMISSION UNDERWENT EXTENSIVE DAMAGE AND HAD TO BE REBUILT. THE MECHANIC ADVISED ME TO CONTACT AMERICAN HONDA AND TRY TO GET THEM TO REPAIR OR REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION FREE OF CHARGE, SINCE MY VEHICLE MAY HAVE BEEN RECALLED UNDER NHTSA BULLETIN 04V176000. HONDA WOULD NOT HONOR MY REQUEST, AS IT THE VEHICLE WAS MANUFACTURED AFTER THE DATES SPECIFIED IN THE BULLETIN. HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE HAD AN ODOMETER READING OF ONLY 42,200 MILES WHEN THE TRANSMISSION FAILED; NEVERTHELESS, AMERICAN HONDA REFUSES TO ACT UPON MY REQUEST FOR SERVICE AND REPAIR. I HAVE BEEN TOLD BY THE DEALERSHIP THAT THIS PROBLEM CAN CAUSE GEAR FAILURE AND TRANSMISSION LOCKUP RESULTING IN A CRASH. THE DRIVING TREMBLE PROBLEM STARTED HAPPENING AT ABOUT 50K MILES. I BROUGHT THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THE PROBLEM COULD NOT BE REPLICATED SO IT WAS NOT REPAIRED. I BROUGHT THE CAR BACK AT 75K, 80K, 85K, 90K. FINALLY AT 95K THE PROBLEM COULD BE EASILY DETECTED BY THE MECHANICS AND THEY WANTED TO TRY SOME SIMPLE CHANGES. FIRST THE MECHANICS TRIED FUEL INJECTOR CLEANERS. AT 97K THE MECHANICS TRIED CHANGING THE ERG OR EKG VALVE. AT 99K THE MECHANIC CHANGED THE CATALYTIC CONVERTED HEAT SHIELD AND CHANGED THE SPARK PLUGS. THE PROBLEM CONTINUE AT 101K THE MECHANIC NOW TELLS ME THE PROBLEM IS WITH THE TRANSMISSION AND THAT I SHOULD THINK ABOUT REPLACING THE TRANSMISSION BECAUSE THE WEAR OF THE GEARS CAN CAUSE A TOOTH TO CHIP OR GEAR BREAKAGE WHICH COULD RESULT IN THE GEAR FAILURE. THE GEAR FAILURE CAN RESULT IN A TRANSMISSION LOCKUP, WHICH COULD RESULT IN A CRASH. I AM UPSET BECAUSE THE CAR TRANSMISSION WAS UNDER WARRANTY FROM 80K TO 100K MILES AND I HAD BOUGHT THE HONDA CARE WARRANTY. NOW IT". *TR
RADIO/HVAC LIGHTING HAS FAILED TWO TIMES, REPAIRED BY HONDA DEALERSHIP. THE UNIT IS NOT WORKING AGAIN. UNABLE TO SEE HVAC/CLIMATE CONTROL/RADIO/CLOCK WHEN UNIT IS OUT. I ALMOST REAR ENDED ANOTHER VEHICLE TRYING TO ADJUST HEAT (HAD TO SWERVE INTO EMERGENCY LANE AND NEARLY LANDED IN A DITCH.
