NHTSA Owner Complaint Log
This page lists owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA for the 2018 Honda Accord. Complaints are unverified consumer reports submitted to NHTSA and do not by themselves prove a defect or defect rate.
The car will have all lights on dashboard showing, car has been taken multiple times to dealership and nothing seems to be wrong but this cause all safety features to malfunction. I have talked with other Honda owners, on forums and acquaintances and they have similar issues.
Emissions and engine light turned on which caused enginue to lose power and stall. Took car to dealership for diagnosis, and two codes related to failed fuel injectors and failed turbocharger. Tech said it is a known failure with this vehicle model, especially with the Honda turbo engine, so much so the warranty was increased from 100,000 miles to 150,000. Unfortunately my car was 15,000 miles over warranty and will be a costly bill. Online research yielded that tech was right, it is a known failure issue with this model but I missed the warranty extension. If this is a known issue by the manufacturer, should this not he a recall issue?
My 2018 Honda Accord Touring with a 1.5L turbocharged engine began experiencing intermittent warning lights and error messages starting around 28,000 miles. I reported these issues to a Honda dealership on some visits however in most cases, the warnings were appearing and disappearing prior to my visit. However the error continued to appeared since then. At approximately 55,000 miles, multiple warning lights and error codes reappeared consistently. I took the vehicle to a Honda dealership for diagnosis and was informed that the issue may involve internal engine damage and that a full engine teardown would be required to determine the cause, at an estimated cost of approximately $2,000, before any actual repair could be identified. Seeking a second opinion, I took the vehicle to a different service location and completed a full tune-up at 63,000 including all standard maintenance expected at that mileage. Less than one week after the tune-up, the same warning lights and error codes returned. I took my car back to the same place where I had the tune-up completed and the same error codes appeared indicating the issue was not related to routine maintenance. I began to research online some common issues with my car, I became aware of a class action lawsuit (Bissell v. American Honda Motor Co., Inc.) describing a known defect in Honda 1.5L turbocharged engines where coolant leaks internally near the cylinder head, causing engine misfires, efficiency warnings, and internal engine damage. The symptoms described in the lawsuit closely match the ongoing issues with my vehicle. The repeated warning lights and potential for engine failure raise safety concerns. The issue has been reproducible and unresolved despite inspection and maintenance.
All alarms are on. Breaks adaptive cruise control hill assist and all other alarms. Taken in to 2 Honda deals and serval mechanics they cannot figure out what’s wrong with it. About once a month all the alarms will clear while driving and the car sensors will start making the car drive odd. Have to fight the steering wheel to keep it straight and wheels will independently break, thinking it’s sliding but it’s not. Extremely dangerous on snowy road or wet roads.
At just under 60,000 miles, the check engine light came on with 10 warnings all at once when the car was started. When I took it to Honda they said that 2 of the cylinders are misfiring and the fuel injectors need to be replaced. These are failing far too early on this model of vehicle and it is likely due to the recalled fuel injector that they took years to replace due to inventory. There should be a recall for the fuel injectors.
My 2018 Honda accord had coolant leaking in cylinder 3. Which caused the head gasket to blow. My car stopped on me in the middle of the hwy. I took my car to a shop down here to get fixed he couldn’t get it to run. All dashboard lights are on.
My dashboard lite up like a Christmas tree. I took my car to Honda dealership. They put it on the diagnostic machine. A blown head gasket, Honda quoted me a repair price of $4400.
Head gasket caused by 1/4 inch head bolts and torqued to 50 lbs multiple people have filed a class action lawsuit regarding this and it’s affecting most Hondas with a 1.5L engine. It caused misfiring and jerking it was inspected and confirmed by Honda service center that my head gasket was blown and I had purchased the car 12k miles ago.
I keep having issues where my car thinks I’m changing lanes and alerts me, when I’m not, and auto-corrects my steering which has led me to actually veer into another lane and fighting the car essentially while driving. I turn the feature off and somehow it just keeps happening. Same with the sensor that auto brakes - there won’t be anything that the car should be braking for and I’ll get the flashing BRAKE text come up on dash and beeping before it completely brakes on its own. These issues and features have been more worrisome and scary than helpful. There are multiple instances
Several system warnings. Dealership diagnostic "bad fuel injectors" Vehicle has 62,735 miles.
The contact owns a 2018 Honda Accord. The contact stated that when the vehicle was started and shifted to drive(D), the traction control and an unknown warning light were illuminated. The contact stated that the "Hill Start Assist Failure – Vehicle Might Roll Upon Brake Release” and “See Dealer Immediately” messages were displayed. The contact turned off and restarted the vehicle, but the warning lights remained illuminated. The vehicle was towed to a dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the head gasket was blown and needed to be replaced, and the fuel pump that was previously replaced was faulty and needed to be replaced. The fuel pump was repaired, but the head gasket was not replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 150,000.
Engine knock caused by oil dilution which is known manufacturing issues with my model of car.
I had to have the injectors replaced in April 2025. In November I was told a had a busted head gasket $5800.00 to fix. Many Honda owners have had this problem. Honda customer services refuses to help.
I have a 2018 Honda Accord Sport 1.5 The issue started after getting my fuel pump replaced as part of the recall. While driving, all of the dashboard lights came on. Warning messages kept flashing on the dash. This car was driving perfectly fine before the fuel pump was replaced. When the codes are cleared, the car drives perfectly fine. The dashboard lights will periodically turn off but ultimately come back on and as a result, the car goes into limp mode. Coils, sparkplugs, breakers have been switched out and oil levels have been checked. When the car is scanned, the codes are reading a misfire with the coils but, the coils that are allegedly misfiring were JUST replaced. The car jerks while attempting to accelerate, and after a few miles, it goes into limp mode. I have tried every type of repair that has been suggested to me by the mechanic but the issues persist.
defective turbocharged engine that is prone to overheating, head gasket failure and other problems. Design defect that causes engine coolant to leak into the cylinders
Car has lost power or gone into "limp mode" while driving on multiple occasions. Car was never listed under the fuel pump recall but had all associated symptoms & problems. Had to have fuel pumps replaced in December 2023 due to car not starting because of faulty fuel pumps. Car has been properly maintenced since purchased brand new in February 2018. currently around 121,000 miles. Car overheated this past summer, Coolant seems to be leaking somewhere as just filled with coolant month ago and needed to refill with about quarter to refill to correct amount. Oil also seems to be having slow leakage problem somewhere within the engine as there is excessive oil on drip pan. Had all 4 spark plugs changed in March of 2025. Car has been going into limp mode and looses power for few seconds to minutes sometimes, almost causing multiple accidents while driving on highways. Pull over to shut off and give few minutes to restart and able to resume driving No warnings before this occurs. Randomly all dashboard lights light up 2 weeks ago and put car into limp mode, was driving on highway at high rate of speed (65mph) safety was compromised several times while this occurs. Engine seems create knocking sounds to known due to oil dilution problem. Cold weather seems to affect issues to onset more often. Also been having stalled or rough start ups in colder weather or when engine is not warmed up. Researching these issues seems to be that 2018 Honda Accords had known head gasket failure. This should become a class action lawsuit and also a recall
Head gasket had to be changed out. I have seen multiple cars having the same issue with this model. The vehicle sputtered and would not let me drive above 40mph. It was a safety issue when I first had it and it occurred in the freeway.
While driving on the NJ Garden State Parkway on an incline, the car went into LIMP HOME MODE in the middle of heavy traffic causing the speed to get dangeriousily very slow. I had to make my way across many lanes to get the edge of the road. After shutting off car I was able to restart and drive to work. My father came to my work and looked at car and added Honda antifreeze becuase it had seeped into combustion chambers Then drove the our Honda dealer. Just before he got to dealer driveway the car missed and hesitated but was able to make it to dealer. Dealer determined it was the common problem with the 1.5T engines, the head gasket failed. Check engine light never went on or any overheating (I was lucky) .While engine was apart, other work was agreed to as being cost-effective. The car prevousily had Honda car with 0 deductable until 100,000 miles. Car has always been serviced by dealer with more service than Honda requires and I have all service records from purchase to prove it. Last service before incident was 10/14/2025 . What makes this worse is that my son (2018 Civic) and my brother (2020 Accord) also have Honda cars that are destined for the same failure based on what is known about the defective 1.5T engines.
On Nov 7, 2025, I took my 2018 Honda Accord (VIN: [XXX] ) to "Honda of Gainesville" (Dealer #208034). 1. Recall Negligence: The dealership performed unauthorized repairs on the vehicle's fuel system (alleged fuel injector failure). However, while the vehicle was in their service bay for fuel system work, they failed to perform or even disclose active NHTSA Safety Recall 23V-858 (Fuel Pump), which is open on this specific VIN. The dealership prioritized unauthorized, billable fuel repairs while knowingly releasing the vehicle with a mandatory federal safety defect still present in the fuel system. 2. Safety Coercion: Service Advisor [XXX] used safety fear tactics to coerce the unauthorized work, claiming the vehicle was entering "limp mode" and would become inoperable/dangerous to drive. Independent diagnostic analysis (OBD2) performed after the service revealed ZERO error codes and no history of the claimed failure. The dealership fabricated a safety hazard ("limp mode") to generate revenue while ignoring a real safety hazard (Recall 23V-858). Associated Investigations: A formal complaint regarding the unauthorized repairs has been filed with the Florida Dept. of Agriculture (Case #XXX-XXX). INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Evaporator for AC failing. This poses a risk for drivers not having property AC in different weather and is extremely dangerous with children. Issue was found by the Honda dealership. I brought this issue up with them on a previous visit after hearing a strange noise, said everything was fine then a week later it goes out and only blowing hot air into vehicle.
*The engine head gasket- The engine sucked the water from the radiator. *The car overheat in Highway and I had to wait for help to open the radiator to fill it with water *By an independent service center *Not yet- I will take it to a dealer Wednesday the 12th *All the dash lights came up and the next day the temp indicator was going up and down
The problem I am having with my vehicle Honda accord 2018 is with the head gasket. I was on the highway and as I was driving suddenly all the signs came on the display and gave a warning that my vehicle is overheating and it came down to 20mph while I was on the highway. This was very risky to me and the other vehicle around me.
The gas pedal failed to work on three separate occasions. The car essentially went into “limp” mode where the whole car stop driving out of nowhere. These models of Honda are known for the head gasket prematurely going out which has caused me car to have multiple misfires, warning lights, loss of power. The problem has been confirmed by the dealership and an independent mechanic.
The contact owns a 2018 Honda Accord. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds and depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle failed to respond as intended. The contact stated that the engine was revving, and the tachometer was showing an elevated RPM level before the vehicle slowly responded. The contact stated that there were several unknown warning lights illuminated on the instrument panel. Additionally, the check engine, traction control, and brake warning lights illuminated and remained illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed and determined that the turbocharger needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 143,000.
I was driving the car and it stopped working the car was just rolling, it lost speed in the road! All the warning lights were displaying, including the engine light. I took this car in to have a dynastic test at the Honda dealership. They reported it was the head gaskets. I’m very disappointed and don’t have the extra money for experience repairs.
On 11/3/25 honda conducted the fuel injection recall fix. Prior to this, no warning lights were displayed on dash. 11/11/25 nine different warnings displayed on dashboard board. 11/13/25 at approximately 35mph the vehicle would not accelerate and the 9 warning notifications continued to flash. Cars had to go around me as I tried to find a safe place to pull to side of the road. I turned off the ignition. I took the vehivle back to the honda dealership maintenance. My vehicle will be there till tomorrow. I was informed code P0304 was present. Prior to recall fix drivability was not a concern and and had no warning lights.
Then when I took it to the dealership to diagnose they said it is a head gasket failure. The repairs they have recommended are very expensive and after researching this problem it shows this is a very common problem Honda vehicles are having. This is a manufacture problem which they should have a recall on hence with such expensive repair and I only have 93K miles on my vehicle. I always thought Hondas were the best vehicle going long term and as I am first time owner and this being my first vehical brand new I am very disappointed with the problem I have been facing with my vehicle.
The head gasket leaked and a piston warped. The symptom was feeling a piston misfire and then the car wouldn't go over 10 miles per hour. Our safety was compromised because we were on a busy (45mph) road and couldn't turn off quickly nor go fast to keep up with traffic. The problem has been reproduced at an independent service center. The vehicle has only been inspected by the mechanic. The previous week all the electrical systems reported a failure. That was repaired by replacing some hose that collapsed on itself. During the misfire, the check engine light flashed, but it didn't before or after (when we were driving very slowly).
My vehicle is losing power while traveling on the road. All of the system lights are flashing and the gas mileage is ridiculous. It sputters uncontrollably and just stalls out and drops speed really quick. I’m really concerned for my well being. I’ve spent so much money trying to fix these issues and I don’t think it’s fair to me or any other Honda owner to have to be held responsible for something that is clearly a manufacturing issue. Although there was not a crash during this incident, it’s very dangerous and I’m terrified to drive my car but I have no other transportation right now.

My car lost power while driving on multiple occasions. My car was originally on the fuel pump recall list but the dealership did not have the part for 6+ months. When the part did come in I found out my car was no longer on the recall list. I had to have my fuel pump injectors replaced due to a faulty fuel pump.
I took my 2018 Honda Accord into the dealership to get the Fuel pump Recall fixed, which took a year to get scheduled. I got that fixed in August, prior to getting the replacement I hadn’t had any issues with the car. About a week ago my car started sputtering and bucking while I was driving it. It felt like it wasn’t getting any fuel. The car left me sit on the highway, threw an engine misfiring code and almost caused an accident because it wouldn’t accelerate, and there were angry drivers behind me. I called the dealership, managed to get it there and they are now telling me I have a bad Head Gasket, which they want $5000 to replace. I had no prior issues and there initial inspection of the car after changing the fuel pump recall, had nothing about any issues with my coolant or gaskets. Is this a recurring problem with the 2018 Honda Accords 2.0T. Since this was the first year this Engine was made.
2018 Honda Accord Sport, 1.5 l motor, 60k miles. loss of power under throttle. Bad head gasket. Diagnosed by dealership.
I was driving on a highway when a warning popped up about engine temperature being high, advising I avoid heavy acceleration. No other codes came. I parked the car and it sat for about 8 hours. I had a short drive and no warnings came on. I drove on a highway about 30 minutes the next morning and again, no warnings. I was about 2 hours from home. About half way, we stopped for food, still no issues, but when we got on the highway, within about 5 miles warning lights came on about engine temp and the car went into limp mode. I had to have it towed to our loacl honda dealer. They confirmed COOLANT INTRUSION CYLINDER 3 AND 4 CONFIRMING HEAD GASKET FAILURE . Cost setimate was $6063. My car is on;y 6 12 year old, 140,000 miles and has always been maintained.
Vehicle will sometimes automatically emergency brake with nothing in front of it
I own a 2018 Honda Accord that was subject to a fuel pump recall. The dealership replaced the fuel pump in July 2025 as part of the recall. Shortly after the replacement, all dashboard warning lights illuminated. I took the vehicle in for diagnostic inspection and was informed that the fuel injector and head gasket had failed. The estimated cost of repairs is $5369.69. I believe these failures may be related to the fuel system recall or indicate a broader defect in the vehicle’s engine or fuel components. I am deeply concerned about the safety and reliability of the vehicle, especially since these issues arose immediately after the recall repair. I am currently unable to afford the repair, and I fear the vehicle may pose a risk to myself and others on the road. This situation has caused me significant stress and anxiety. The unexpected financial burden has disrupted my personal and professional life, and I feel unsafe driving a vehicle that may have underlying defects. I am frustrated that a recall repair may have led to even more severe mechanical issues, and I am left without clear support or resolution. I had no choice but to pay for the repairs out of pocket, despite the financial strain. I am seeking guidance on how this cost might be recovered—whether through manufacturer assistance, warranty extension, or further recall action. I respectfully request that NHTSA investigate whether this issue is connected to the existing recall or represents a wider safety defect affecting other vehicles of the same make and model.
The warning lights for many areas has come on without warning. The car runs and drives fine. Took it to Honda. They want between 500 - 2500 to resolve the issue and replace the front radar. This appears to be a consistent problem for these 2018 Hondas. I already had to have the fuel injectors replaced at 48k miles. Another common Honda problem. Please help us as consumers
Lost coolant and engine over heated. Inspected by shop and determined that the coolant is leaking into the engine due to head gasket issue. This could cause extreme engineer overheating and cause fire in engine. based on available information from other owners of the accord 1.5T 2018, this is common issue.
turbo charger split causing engine failure which almost created a serious accident.
These also are warning signals that keep coming on I took it to AutoZone obd scanner said is was misfire cylinder2got spark plug changed and engine coil still showing same thing on scanner
The contact owns a 2018 Honda Accord. The contact stated while driving approximately 50-55 MPH, the vehicle was jerking before shutting off. The accelerator pedal was depressed, but the vehicle failed to respond. The contact was able to move over safely. The vehicle was restarted and continued to drive. The ABS, steering, battery, engine, and Lane Departure warning lights were flashing. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer for NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V858000 (Fuel System, Gasoline). The vehicle was repaired, but the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was taken to another local dealer, Shelor Motor Mile (270 Jarrett Dr SE, Christiansburg, VA 24073), who confirmed that the fuel pump had not been serviced. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 101,000. The VIN was not available.
The head gasket of my 2018 Honda Accord, 1.5L turbo engine blew, allowing coolant to leak and pool into cylinder 3 of the engine. The engine was inspected by a Honda dealership and confirmed the defect/failure. I don’t have the failed gasket, but do have images of the coolant running into the cylinder from the inspection. My family’s safety was put at risk as due to this failure the engine misfired and would no longer accelerate on two different instances. Once in a local 55 mph road where the car would get above 30 mph. The second was when my wife was driving in a 70 mph turnpike when the misfire happened. There were no warning lamps or indicators of the failure. The symptoms were duffle, which included worsening engine performance, gas mileage, rough idling, and jerking while driving due to poor combustion in the bad cylinder. They first appeared around 87,000 - 88,000 miles (within this last year - 2025).
I was slowing down to pull into a parking spot at my office and suddenly the car accelerated, jumped the concrete barrier and crashed into the brick wall. The car continued to actively crash into the wall, so I put it in reverse and it accelerated backward with such force that it crashed into the rear of the car on the other side of the parking lot and then spun around 180 degrees and crashed into the side of that same car. My car was terrifyingly out of control. There was a woman in another car who had just parked and luckily she remained in her car because if she'd gotten out my car could have hit her. I don't know if this is related, but I regularly used the brake hold function and pressed the button to turn it off as I was parking. My perception is that the car suddenly accelerated when I depressed the brake hold button to turn it off. I have the parking lot security camera footage that clearly shows I was braking when the car suddenly accelerated and went out of control. I had 3 hard collisions and the airbag didn't deploy. Luckily I only had some neck and back pain and wasn't seriously injured. My car and the other car were totaled. I'm incredibly disappointed that Honda didn't call me back in time to be able to inspect the car. The insurance company pressured me to settle and turn over title. I'm very angry that the insurance company says I'm at fault because I need to stay in control of my vehicle at all times, but how could I have done that when the car suddenly went out of control? Now I'm going to have to pay higher insurance rates for something that I couldn't control.
I have changed turbo, coil packs, fuel injectors, spark plugs, battery, fuel pump and my vehicle still give misfire in cylinder 3. Honda knows it’s a turbo and head gasket issue and will NOT do a recall on this for the vehicles. HORRIBLE company. Will never buy another Honda
Head gasket for the second time
Head gasket problem. Coolant leaking into cylinder #2, head gasket needs replacing. The car is currently at a Honda dealership & they inspected/ confirmed that this was the issue. They expressed this was a common issue with this car. The first signs of issues happened while driving uphill on the freeway, the car started to “jump” when trying to accelerate. A couple of minutes later, the car would not accelerate while driving & the check engine light turned on. The second time, this happened much quicker. In a span of a couple of seconds, the car “jumped” while driving on the freeway again, and slowed down and would not accelerate, but various lights on the dash turned on this time. This is obviously very dangerous as a car suddenly decelerating while driving can cause the driver and others on the road to crash. There were no warning lights on prior to the first incident.
All my warning lights keep coming on in dashboard and my car isn’t accelerating in cold weather after sitting overnight
While driving, my 2018 Honda Accord suddenly lost power and went into limp mode with no prior overheating or warning signs. The acceleration dropped instantly, and the vehicle nearly caused an accident as it seized up in traffic. Diagnostic scan showed a P0303 cylinder 3 misfire, which is consistent with head gasket failure. The issue has been widely reported among other Honda Accord owners with the same engine, and it appears to be a recurring defect. This failure is dangerous because the car can lose power abruptly at highway speeds or during normal driving, putting drivers and passengers at risk of collisions. The vehicle was properly maintained and had no prior indication of internal damage or overheating. The head gasket failure is sudden and mechanical, not caused by user neglect. It needs to be investigated as a manufacturer defect before it leads to serious accidents or injuries.
I had to have $6400.00 worth of repairs (2018 Honda Accord Sport ) due to stalling & engine light came on and then it wouldn't go-due to the head gasket not being recalled and since they had the engine out, i also had to have other repairs they said were necessary plus car rental on top of that...I had only made my 2 car pymts when this happened!
Coolant leaking into head gasket which now needs to be replaced as it’s causing the whole car to shudder when acclerating and when not letting off the gas the check engine light will come on and the car will not drive anymore. It then needs to be turned off and on again to go away and won’t fix the issue with the studdering.
