Open the full vehicle complaint log (all categories)ON THE 7/28/2013 I WAS DRIVING NORMAL HIGHWAY SPEEDS OF APP 70MPH IN MY 2010 HONDA CIVIC HYBRID WHEN SUDDENLY EVERY DASH LIGHT CAME ON AND THE ENGINE DIED CAUSING THE POWER STEERING TO FREEZE UP. THE RESULTING CHAIN OF EVENTS NEARLY CAUSED ME TO WRECK THE VEHICLE BUT I WAS ABLE TO PERFORM A CONTROLLED STOP AND EXIT THE FREEWAY. APPROXIMATELY 10 MINUTES LATER I WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE AND CONTINUE ON. WHEN I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP A FEW DAYS LATER AND HAVE THE PROBLEM DIAGNOSED IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THERE WAS A BAD CELL IN THE BATTERY WHICH IN TURN WAS CONFUSING THE VEHICLE COMPUTER RESULTING IN THE SHUTDOWN OF THE VEHICLE ENGINE. HAD THE FREEWAY NOT BEEN STRAIGHT AT THIS PARTICULAR POINT UNDOUBTEDLY THIS WOULD HAVE RESULTED IN A FATAL ACCIDENT. THIS PROBLEM SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED AND RESOLVED BEFORE THIS RESULTS IN A FATAL ACCIDENT. ONCE THE BATTERY WAS REPLACED I HAD NO MORE ISSUES IN REGARDS TO THE ENGINE SHUTTING DOWN PREMATURELY. *TR
Complaints are unverified consumer reports submitted to NHTSA. A high complaint count may reflect vehicle popularity, not defect severity. Data sourced from NHTSA public records.
