TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1997 HONDA CIVIC. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN THE KEY WAS REMOVED FROM THE IGNITION THE ENGINE REMAINED ON. THE CONTACT HAD THE IGNITION SWITCH REPAIRED FOUR YEARS AGO FOR THE IDENTICAL FAILURE. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS IN THE PARK POSITION IT WOULD ROLL BACKWARDS IF THE EMERGENCY BREAK WAS NOT ON. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THIS WAS AN ISSUE WITH THE 1999 THROUGH 2004 HONDA CIVIC NOT HER YEAR, MAKE AND MODEL VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 85000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 134000.
THE SRS SYSTEM IN MY HONDA CIVIC EX 1997 WENT OUT WHEN I HAD FIRST PURCHASED THE USED CAR IN JUNE 2004 WITH AROUND 145,00 MILES ON IT. I HAD A NEW SRS ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PUT IN . IT HAS BEEN TWO YEARS AND THE SYSTEM HAS GONE OUT AGAIN. I NOW HAVE TO FIX IT AGAIN AND MY CAR SPECIALIST HAS TOLD ME THAT THE PRICE HAS DOUBLED ON THE PART, AND THAT THIS IS A COMMON OCCURRENCE IN HONDA CIVICS. *NM
I AM CONTINUALLY EXPERIENCING THE ISSUE LISTED IN CAMPAIGN ID 99I002000 ON MY 1997 CIVIC. THE DEFECT REPORT INDICATES THAT 1997 CIVICS ARE COVERED. WHEN I CALL HONDA TO ARRANGE RESOLUTION OF DEFECT, THEY TELL ME ONLY 1996 CIVICS ARE COVERED. THIS IS FRUSTRATING CONSIDERING I AM EXPERIENCING THE ISSUE AND 99I002000 LISTS MY YEAR. I'M NERVOUS THAT THE ROUGHNESS OF THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WILL CAUSE ME TO REAR-END SOMEONE EVENTUALLY. PLEASE CONVINCE HONDA THAT MY 1997 SHOULD BE COVERED. THANK YOU. *NM
THE SRS CONTROLLER FAILED AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. *JB
THE SRS (AIRBAG) COMPUTER STOPPED WORKING ON MY 1997 HONDA CIVIC EX FOR NO REASON AND AFTER NO INCIDENT. I HAVE BEEN TOLD BY THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT THAT THIS MEANS THAT THE AIRBAGS MAY OR MAY NOT DEPLOY IN CASE OF A CRASH. THE COMPUTER PART NUMBER IS 77960-S04-N81. THE PRICE FOR THE PART ALONE IS $697 AND LABOR IS AN ADDITIONAL $150. I CONTACTED HONDA AND THEY OFFERED ME A 25% DISCOUNT BECAUSE I HAD MAINTENANCE PERFORMED BY THE DEALER. THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY COULD NOT OFFER ANY MORE SINCE RECORDS INDICATE THAT I ONLY OWN ONE HONDA AND BECAUSE THEY COULD ONLY SHOW ME GOING TO THE DEALER FOR THE PAST TWO YEARS FOR MAINTENANCE. I WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS A LIMITED LIFETIME WARRANTY ON THE SEAT BELTS, BUT NOT THE AIRBAGS. THE CASE MANAGER (CAROLYN) TOLD ME THAT THEY DIDN'T EVEN HAVE TO OFFER ME THIS. WHEN ASKED WHY THE SEAT BELTS WERE COVERED AND NOT THE AIRBAGS (WHICH ARE AN IMPORTANT SAFETY FEATURE OF THE CAR AND REQUIRED BY FEDERAL LAW), SHE SAID THAT IT WAS A BUSINESS DECISION. SINCE HONDA SELLS SO MANY CIVICS AND SINCE THE CAR IS DURABLE ENOUGH TO BE DRIVEN FOR MANY MILES, I BELIEVE THAT THERE IS A SUBSTANTIAL SAFETY RISK TO MANY PEOPLE IF EVEN A SMALL FRACTION OF THESE COMPUTERS GO OUT. COMBINED WITH THE FACT THAT THE REPAIR IS A THIRD OF THE TRADE IN VALUE OF THE CAR AND HONDA'S UNWILLINGNESS TO ADEQUATELY REMEDY THIS PROBLEM, I BELIEVE THAT THIS IS AN IMPORTANT ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED IMMEDIATELY.*JB
MY HONDA AUTOMOBILE REPAIR BUSINESS MENTIONED MINE WAS THE 2ND SECONDARY RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) COMPUTER REPLACEMENT ON A 1997 HONDA. THEY HAD DONE THIS YEAR. THE SRS UNIT, MODEL 77960-S04-N81 FAILED AFTER 55,000 MILES, DISABLING MY AIR BAGS.*AK
DT: THE CONTACT STATED THE SRS LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE VEHICLE. THE DEALERSHIP RAN A DIAGNOSTIC TEST AND DETERMINED THE SRS FAILED. THE CONTACT WAS THE SECOND OWNER, BUT STATED THERE HAVE BEEN NO PRIOR ACCIDENTS. *AK
DT: THE CONTACT STATED THAT BOTH FRONTAL AIRBAGS DEPLOYED WITHOUT CAUSE ON OCTOBER 2, 2005. THE DRIVER OF THE VEHICLE SUSTAINED MINOR INJURIES. THERE WERE NO ACCIDENTS. THE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT CAME ON AFTER BOTH AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. THE VEHICLE HAD PREVIOUSLY BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT BEFORE HE PURCHASED IT. AND THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY WHEN THE ACCIDENT OCCURRED. WHEN THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO DEALER FOR INSPECTION THEY COULD NOT FIND THE CAUSE OFR THE DEPLOYMENT. *AK
DT: CONTACT OWNS A 1997 HONDA CIVIC. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH APPLIED THE BRAKES AND THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER AIRBAGS DEPLOYED PRIOR TO AN IMPACT. THE DEPLOYMENT OF THE AIRBAGS CAUSED AN ACCIDENT BECAUSE THE DRIVER COULD NOT SEE THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF HER. THIS VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN IN ANY PREVIOUS ACCIDENTS. SHE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE FROM AN INDIVIDUAL OWNER, SO SHE DID NOT CONTACT A LOCAL SERVICE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THIS TYPE OF OCCURRENCE COULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED. THE CONSUMER NO LONGER OWNED THE VEHICLE.*AK
I BROUGHT MY 1997 HONDA CIVIC IN FOR A RECURRING PROBLEM WHICH WAS COVERED UNDER AN WARRANTY ISSUED BY HONDA FOR RESETTING AN EMISSIONS PROBLEM IN 1997 CIVICS. THIS IS THE SEVENTH TIME I HAD TO HAVE THIS LIGHT RESET. THE WARRANTY WAS FOR UP TO 150K MILES. THIS TIME I HAD 152K MILES. I WAS TOLD FROM NOW ON I WOULD HAVE TO PAY A $85 DIAGNOSTIC FEE PLUS REPAIR. THIS IS UNFAIR AS THIS IS A RECURRING PROBLEM THAT HAS NOT BEEN CORRECTED. AS THIS OCCURS ON AVERAGE EVERY 12,000 MILES I COULD HAVE TO PAY THIS DIAGNOSTIC FEE OF $85 PLUS PARTS FOR A RECURRING PROBLEM THAT HAS NOT BEEN FIXED. NOTE THAT A COWORKER WHO HAS THE SAME CAR HAD BROUGHT THE CAR IN NINE TIMES. THIS DEALER REPLACED THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER ON HER CAR AND THE LIGHT HAS NOT COME BACK ON. WHEN I BROUGHT THE CAR IN FOR THE REPAIR ABOVE I WAS TOLD THAT HONDA WOULD NOT REPAIR THE CAR UNTIL ALL THE NON-HONDA PARTS IN THE AREA AFFECTED WERE REPLACED. THE TOTAL OF THESE PARTS WAS $227. THIS WOULD BE IN ADDITION TO THE $85 DIAGNOSTIC FEE. I WAS TOLD BY THE SERVICE MANAGER THAT THEY WOULD NOT EVEN LOOK AT THE CAR UNTIL THE NON-HONDA PARTS WERE REPLACED. I ASKED IF THEY COULD RESET THE ENGINE LIGHT AS THEY HAD IN THE PAST AND WAS TOLD NO. I ASKED FOR THE CAR BACK AND DID NOT REPLACE THE PARTS. I WAS CHARGED THE $85 DIAGNOSTIC FEE. THE LIGHT IS NOW OFF AND THE CAR RUNS FINE. I HAVE DRIVEN ANOTHER 6,000 MILES SINCE THAT TIME AND THE LIGHT HAS NOT COME BACK ON. THE OWNER'S MANUAL STATES THAT GENUINE HONDA PARTS ARE RECOMMENDED; IT DOES NOT SAY THEY ARE REQUIRED. THE OWNER'S MANUAL SHOULD STATE EXPLICITLY THAT THE USE OF HONDA ONLY PARTS IS REQUIRED OR DEALER MAY NOT SERVICE THE CAR. I FEEL THIS IS A VIOLATION OF MY RIGHT TO PATRONIZE A CERTIFIED SERVICE FACILITY. IF EXTENDED THIS TYPE OF POLICY COULD BE RUINOUS TO NON-DEALER SERVICE FACILITIES. I OPENED A CASE WITH AMERICAN HONDA AND THEY SAID THAT DEALERS ARE INDEPENDENTLY OWNED AND OPERATED AND THEY COULD DO NOTHING. THIS WHOLE POLICY EXPLOITS THE PUBLIC. *JB
MY NEWLY ACQUIRED 1997 HONDA CIVIC HAS A PROBLEM WITH THE GAS PEDAL. IT IS IMPOSSIBLE FOR ME TO SMOOTHLY ACCELERATE, THE PEDAL HAS A CHOPPY FEELING AND IS VERY JERKY AT SLOW SPEEDS. WHEN I GO TO PRESS ON THE PEDAL IT WONT MOVE AND THEN WHEN IT DOES MOVE IT MOVES TOO FAR. I LOOKED UP THE PROBLEM AND FOUND THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THE PROBLEM, HOWEVER THE DEALER I TALKED TO AND THE HONDA COMPANY STATED THAT MY CAR DID NOT QUALIFY. THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER IS 99I002000. THE PROBLEM IS VERY DANGEROUS IN TRAFFIC, AND I HAVE NEARLY REAR ENDED PEOPLE ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS. I HOPE THERE IS SOME WAY I CAN GET THIS PROBLEM FIXED. THE PROBLEM HAPPENS EVERY TIME I DRIVE THE CAR SO THE INCIDENT DATE I AM GOING TO PUT IS GENERALLY WHEN WE ACQUIRED THE CAR. THANK YOU. *NM
THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT CAME ON WHILE DRIVING, RENDERING THE AIR BAGS INOPERATIVE IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH. DEALERSHIP INDICATED THAT THIS OCCURRED BECAUSE THE SRS UNIT FAILED. THE SRS UNIT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED.*AK *SB
THE LEFT AND RIGHT AIR BAGS WENT OFF INADVERTENTLY WHILE DRIVING. DRIVER APPLIED THE BRAKES AND THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. THIS CAUSED THE DRIVER TO LOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND CRASHED INTO A SEWER DRAINAGE HOLE. DRIVER SUSTAINED MINOR INJURIES, AND WENT TO THE HOSPITAL ON HER OWN. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED. *AK

MY 75-YEAR OLD MOTHER HAS A 1997 HONDA CIVIC EX. THE TRUNK LID IS CONSTANTLY FALLING FROM THE OPEN POSITION AND THIS EVENING CAUGHT HER RIGHT ACROSS THE BRIDGE OF HER NOSE, RESULTING IN A DEEP LACERATION. HONDAS ARE SO CHEAPLY MADE, THAT I SEE NO WAY OF ADJUSTING THE TRUNK LID. PERHAPS I WILL FILE A LAWSUIT!!*AK
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE SLOWLY ACCELERATES WHILE APPLYING FIRM PRESSURE TO THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. ALTHOUGH THE PROBLEM PERSISTED, THE VEHICLE WAS NOT SEEN BY A DEALER. THERE IS A SAFETY IMPROVEMENT CAMPAIGN, # 99I002000, REGARDING THE VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL. THE VEHICLE HAS THE SAME PROBLEMS AS INDICATED IN THE RECALL; HOWEVER IT IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE CAMPAIGN DUE TO THE VIN.

I WAS PULLING INTO A PARKING SPACE AND ALL OF A SUDDEN THE CAR SURGED FORWARD AT A RAPID PACE AND IT HIT A BUILDING. THERE WAS DAMAGE TO THE BUILDING AND THE CAR. NO ONE WAS INJURED. I DROVE THE CAR 3 YEARS AFTER THAT. THEN I GAVE THE CAR TO MY SON AND IN 1999 THE SAME THING HAPPENED TO HIM WITH THE SAME CAR. IN 1997 I BOUGHT A HONDA CIVIC (NO BELLS OR WHISTLES). SEVEN AND HALF YEARS LATER THIS IS WHAT HAPPENED. I WAS PARKING THE CAR AND ALL OF A SUDDEN IT SURGED FORWARD LIKE THE LAST TIME. I HIT THE SIDE OF A BUILDING, TURNED THE WHEEL TO AVOID GOING THROUGH THE WINDOWS OF THE BUILDING, HIT ANOTHER CAR, THEN FINALLY THE CAR SLOWED DOWN, AND I PUT THE CAR IN PARK. I HIT THE SIDE OF A BUILDING, TURNED THE WHEEL TO AVOID GOINIG THROUGH THE WINDOWS OF THE BUILDING, HIT ANOTHER CAR, THEN FINALLY THE CAR SLOWED DOWN SOME AND I PUT THE CAR IN PARK. SINCE THIS HAS HAPPED TO ME TWO TIMES I AM PETRIFIED TO DRIVE MY CAR AGAIN. NO ONE WAS INJURED. I SEARCHED THE NHTS - OFFICE OF DEFECTS INVESTIGATION - I FOUND 10 INCIDENTS OF THIS HAPPENING WITH THE 1987 HONDA ACCORD. WHAT IS TO SAY THIS CAN ALSO BE TRUE OF THE 1997 HONDA CIVIC. *AK
WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH, WITH THE DRIVER ONLY, VEHICLE COMMENCED TO VIBRATE/SHAKE FROM THE BACK. CONSUMER WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE OFF THE MAIN FREEWAY, AND NOTICED THAT RIGHT REAR TIRE SHOWED THAT TREAD WAS COMPLETELY SEPARATED FROM THE SIDEWALL. AFTER MARKET TIRES INSTALLED AT 36,060 MILES, TIRE SIZE P185/65R14, DOT# AC763JD2500. THE TIRE WAS MOUNTED ON A HONDA CIVIC 1997 VEHICLE. CONSUMER HAS THE TIRE AVAILABLE FOR ANALYSIS, AND THE TIRE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED. *AK
BOTH WINDOWS DO NOT OPEN ALL THE WAY. IN 2000 DRIVER'S SIDE WINDOW CAME OFF THE RUBBER TRACK. REPLACED CHANNEL AND REGULATOR IN 2000. 11/18/04 DRIVER SIDE WINDOW CAME OFF THE RUBBER TRACK AGAIN. *AK
(1) NORMAL DRIVING OF MY 1997 HONDA CIVIC 4 DOOR DX (2) THE SRS LIGHT IS NOW ILLUMINATED AND HAS STAYED ILLUMINATED FOR THE LAST YEAR - THIS MEANS MY AIRBAGS DON'T WORK. - DEALER CHECKED IT OUT ($90 CHARGE) AND SAID THAT MY SRS UNIT IS COMPLETELY DEAD AND CAN'T TELL ME WHY - CAR HAS NEVER BEEN WRECKED - NO PROBLEMS WITH IT OTHER THAN THIS DEFECT (PRETTY HUGE DEFECT). (3) I'VE LODGED A COUPLE OF COMPLAINTS AND NEVER HEARD ANYTHING BACK ON THEM. SEVERAL PEOPLE POST TO MESSAGE BOARDS WITH SAME PROBLEM - THIS IS AN ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED - I CAN'T AFFORD TO BUY A NEW CAR AND AM CURRENTLY RIDING IN A DANGEROUS ONE BECAUSE OF DEFECTIVE EQUIPMENT. ON 10/2/2003 I PURCHASED FOUR DUNLOP G/T QUALIFIER TIRES SIZE P205/40R-16 FROM DISCOUNT TIRE, SEE INVOICE ENCLOSED. ON 9/27/2004 I WAS HAVING A ROUTINE OIL CHANGE DONE ON MY CAR AT RIGHT HONDA SCOTTSDALE ARIZONA WHEN THE FOLLOWING WAS DISCOVERED. THREE OUT OF THE FOUR TIRES HAD CRACKING ON THE INSIDE BEAD WHICH IF NOT CAUGHT IN TIME COULD HAVE CAUSED A BLOW OUT. PLEASE LOOK AT THE RIGHT HONDA INVOICE UNDER TECH NOTES THAT WILL DOCUMENT WHAT I AM DESCRIBING. I HAVE TALKED TO DISCOUNT TIRE AND DUNLOP THEY PRORATED MY TIRES CHARGING ME $214.88 FOR NEW TIRES AND A DIFFERENT BRAND OF TIRE. I KEPT THE TIRES PROPERLY INFLATED ALIGNED ROTATED AND BALANCED AND HAVE ALL MY RECEIPTS SO I KNOW I DID EVERYTHING CORRECT ON MY END. MY MAIN CONCERN FOR WRITING TO THE CONSUMER INFORMATION AND COMPLAINTS DEPARTMENT IS THE FOLLOWING. THESE TIRES WERE DEFECTIVE AND I COULD HAVE BEEN IN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. WHILE DRIVING, THE VEHICLE STRUCK A POT HOLE, AND THE PASSENGER'S SIDE AIR BAG DEPLOYED. HOWEVER, THE DRIVER'S SEAT BELT DID NOT LOCK, AND PASSENGER STRUCK HIS FACE ON THE STEERING WHEEL. *AK THE PASSENGER AIR BAG DID NOT OPEN AND THE CHECK ENGINE AND THE AIR BAG LIGHT REMAINED ON. *SC
IN DECEMBER 2002, WE REPLACED THE AIR BAG SENSOR/CONTROL MODULE IN OUR 1997 AFTER THE SRS WARNING SYSTEM LIGHT ACTIVATED AND THE COMPUTER CONFIRMED THE PROBLEM. LESS THAN TWO YEARS LATER, THE SAME PROBLEM RECURRED (AUGUST 2004), AND AMERICAN HONDA IS REFUSING TO REPLACE THE PART ($400+) BECAUSE THE ONE-YEAR WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED. IT TOOK NEARLY 95,000 MILES FOR THE FIRST UNIT TO FAIL, AND LESS THAN 20,000 FOR THE SECOND ONE TO FAIL. THIS IS MY THIRD AND, WILL BE MY LAST, HONDA.*AK
1997 CIVIC DX SRS READINESS INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. *TS ***NAR*** THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE PROBLEM WAS DIAGNOSED A SRS CONTROL UNIT FAILURE. THE DEALER RESET THE SRS UNIT. A YEAR LATER THE LIGHT ILLUMINATED AGAIN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TOT HE DEALER WHO INDICATED THAT THE SRS CONTROL UNIT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *NM
ON AUGUST 04, 2004, I VISITED THE HONDA DEALERSHIP BECAUSE THE INDICATOR LIGHT ON THE SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) READINESS INDICATOR LAMP OF MY HONDA CIVIC 1997 DX HAD TURNED RED. WHEN THEY CHECKED MY CAR, THEY SAID THAT THEY GOT A DTC CODE OF 08-5 FROM THE SRS MODULE. I WAS TOLD THAT IT MEANT SRS CONTROL UNIT FAILURE. THE DEALERSHIPS RESET THE SRS UNIT. A YEAR AFTER, THE SAME CONDITION RECURRED. I WAS THEN TOLD THAT SRS CONTROL UNIT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. IF NO ACTION WERE TAKEN, THE UNCORRECTED ILLUMINATION OF THE SRS READINESS INDICATOR LAMP CAN HINDER THE DETECTION OF POTENTIAL VITAL AIRBAG SYSTEM OPERATION OF COMPONENTS SUCH AS AIRBAG MODULE, CRASH SENSOR AND WIRING INTEGRITY. THE DIAGNOSTIC SERVICE AND PART COSTS HAS DETERRED ME FROM SERVICING THIS RECURRING PROBLEM. THE ESTIMATED COST OF THE PARTS AND SERVICE IS OVER $800.00. I HAVE NEVER BEEN IN ANY INCIDENT OR ACCIDENT WHEREIN THE AIRBAGS WERE DEPLOYED. I BELIEVE THAT THE SRS CONTROL UNIT SHOULD BE GUARANTEED THROUGHOUT THE LIFE TIME OF THE VEHICLE. I STRONGLY BELIEVE THAT THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. NOWADAYS, WHEN I DRIVE THE CAR, I DO NOT FEEL AS SECURE AS I DID, FOR I AM UNCERTAIN IF THE AIRBAG WOULD DEPLOY AT ALL, IN CASE I GET INTO AN ACCIDENT. MY ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON DUE TO THE FACT THAT I NEEDED TO REPLACE MY O2 SENSOR. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO REPLACE IT WE NOTICED A CRACK IN THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD. WHEN WE TOOK IT TO THE SHOP WE WERE TOLD THAT THIS WAS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH HONDA CIVICS. APPARENTLY THEY SEE THE MANIFOLDS START TO CRACK AROUND 110,000 MILES. THE COST WAS NEARLY $700 TO REPLACE IT.*AK
I OWN A 1997 HONDA CIVIC DX COUPE AND FEW WEEKS AGO THE DRIVER WINDOW COLLAPSED WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON A FREEWAY. THE ONLY WARNING WAS FEW DAYS BEFORE THAT THE HANDLE WAS SLIGHTLY HARDER THEN USUAL. ON SATURDAY, MAY 8TH 2004, WHEN I WAS COMING HOME FROM MY COLLEGE GRADUATION, I SLIGHTLY ACCELERATED IN MY 1997 HONDA CIVIC EX FROM 25 TO 35 MPH ON 26TH STREET IN MINNEAPOLIS, MN AROUND 5:30 MPH. FOR SOME UNSEEN, ODD AND POSSESSIVE REASON, MY GAS PEDAL GOT STUCK TO THE FLOOR AND BEGAN TO ACCELERATE TO 65 MPH ON A 30 MPH ROAD. NORMALLY IVE NEVER HEARD OF THIS HAPPENING AND HAVE ALWAYS BEEN A FAN OF HONDA AUTOMOBILES AND PRODUCTS. I HAVE NEVER BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT AND HAVE A CLEAN DRIVING RECORD. THANK GOD THERE WASN'T ANY TRAFFIC, BECAUSE FOR 6 BLOCKS I'VE NEVER BEEN SO SCARED IN MY LIFE. WHILE I WAS DRIVING, MY CAR WAS RED LINING (BECAUSE OF THE BLOWN SPEED SENSOR OR THROTTLE GAUGE ACCORDING TO THE DEALERSHIP THAT FIXED MY VEHICLE), IT CAUSED ME TO QUESTION WHY I DRIVE. AS I CAME ACROSS A FAIRLY BUSY ROAD, I TRIED TO SLOW THE CAR DOWN BY PRESSING AS HARD AS POSSIBLE ON THE BRAKE AND PUTTING THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION INTO NEUTRAL (WHICH DID SLOW THE CAR DOWN SLIGHTLY), BUT ONLY TO 10-15MPH. I WAS THEN FORCED WITH HITTING AND POSSIBLY INJURING/KILLING PEOPLE ON THE FORTHCOMING STREET IN MINNEAPOLIS (26TH AND HENNEPIN), BUT INSTEAD WAS ABLE TO USE A DUMPSTER IN A PRE-EXISTING ALLEYWAY AS A BUFFER TO SLOW MY CAR DOWN TO A SAFE SPEED WHERE I COULD PULL THE E-BRAKE, PUT THE VEHICLE INTO PARK AND THEN TURN THE CAR OFF. I DO HAVE INSURANCE AND WASN'T INJURED, BUT I WILL NEED A NEW BUMPER, FRONT BUMPER SIDE SKIRT AND NEW RIM/TIRE TOTALING OVER $2000. I'M TRYING TO FIND IF ANYONE KNOWS OF THIS PROBLEM OR OF ANY POSSIBLE RECALLS/DEFECTS? AS THIS IS A MANUFACTURERS ERROR AS PER THE COMPANY WHO FIXED MY HONDA (TOWN AND COUNTRY DODGE IN HOPKINS, MN), I AM VERY NERVOUS ABOUT PURCHASING OTHER HONDA AUTOMOBILES AS IS MY FAMILY AND FRIENDS THAT I HAVE SPOKEN WITH. SRS INDICATOR LIGHT WILL NOT GO OFF. DEALER (HONDA OF NEW ROCHELLE) HAS SEEN CAR ON ISSUE THREE TIMES. FIRST TIME SIMPLY RESET IT. ISSUE RECURRED WITHIN 10 MONTHS. SECOND TIME DEALER REPLACED THE SRS CONTROL UNIT AND CHARGED ME APPROXIMATELY $550. ONE WEEK LATER THE ISSUE RECURRED. DEALER NOW SAYS THE BATTERY HAS A LOW CHARGE AND THAT IS THE CAUSE. THEY WANT TO REPLACE THE BATTERY FOR OVER $150. *LA
WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE AT ANY SPEED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL STICKS INTERMITTENTLY AND SUDDENLY ACCELERATES. THE DEALER INSPECTED THE VEHICLE BUT COULD NOT DUPLICATE OR CORRECT THE PROBLEM. THE CONSUMER WAS SCARED TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER INFORMATION. *NLM

I HAVE A 1997 HONDA CIVIC EX COUPE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION WITH 95,900 MILES WHEN THE TRANSMISSION PROBLEM STARTED. ONE DAY I NOTICED MY CAR WAS HESITATING WHEN I PRESSED THE ACCELERATOR BUT DID NOT PUT A LOT OF ATTENTION TO IT. THEN SOON AFTER I NOTICED THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TURN ON. THEY RESET THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, THEN TOLD ME THAT THE PROBLEM WAS THE TRANSMISSION AND IF IT TURNS ON AGAIN THAT I WOULD NEED TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION. THE LIGHT TURNED ON WENT BACK TO ROCK HONDA , THEY RECOMMENDED ME REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION AND MENTIONED TO ME THERE IS NO RECALL ON THE A/T OR WARRANTY , THE ESTIMATE WAS $2900 FOR THE REPAIR. SO I DECIDED TO GET A SECOND OPINION, AND THEY TOLD ME THE SAME THING THE A/T NEEDS TO BE REPAIRED! I ENDED UP REPAIRING IT COSTING ME $2608.11 OUCH. I BELIEVE HONDA SHOULD HAVE TAKEN RESPONSIBILITY AND NOTIFY THE MILLIONS OF CUSTOMERS THAT OWN HONDA CIVICS AND TELL THEM ABOUT THIS MAJOR REPAIR BY ISSUING A RECALL. MY 30 DAY/1,000 MILE WARRANTY JUST ENDED A FEW DAYS AGO, AND I AM NOW HAVING TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS WITH MY AUTOMATIC HONDA CIVIC EX. I HAVE READ SEVERAL OTHER COMPLAINTS ON THIS SAME ITEM IN THE 97 CIVICS. MY WHOLE FAMILY OWNS HONDAS AND THEY ARE USUALLY RELIABLE CARS. AIRBAG SYSTEM INOPERABLE. THE AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON DURING ROUTINE DRIVING. A CHECK WITH HONDA SERVICE SHOWS THAT THE AIRBAG MODULE FAILED. HONDA NEEDS TO REPLACE THE AIRBAG MODULE IN ORDER FOR THE AIRBAG SYSTEM TO WORK AT A SIGNIFICANT COST TO THE OWNER. THERE ARE MANY OTHER PEOPLE THAT REPORT A SIMILAR PROBLEM. *NM
