1. I HAD ALL RECOMMENDED SERVICE, INCLUDING OIL CHANGES, PERFORMED ON MY 2008 HONDA CIVIC HYBRID SINCE I PURCHASED IT NEW, WITH RECEIPTS TO PROVE THIS, AND NEVER HAD A PROBLEM WITH THIS CAR PRIOR TO THIS INCIDENT. 2. THE ENGINE FAILED CATASTROPHICALLY, WITH NO ALERT OR WARNING LIGHT, ON A HIGHWAY AT 55MPH DURING RUSH-HOUR TRAFFIC. 3. THE FAILED ENGINE WAS REPLACED WITH A USED ENGINE, AS RECOMMENDED BY THE HONDA SERVICE LOCATION WHERE I HAD THE CAR TOWED. THE SERVICE MANAGER NEVER PROVIDED AN EXPLANATION OF WHAT DID OR MIGHT HAVE HAPPENED, AND HE REPORTED THAT EVERYTHING ABOUT THE ENGINE SEEMED APPROPRIATE EXCEPT FOR THE FACT THAT IT HAD "SEIZED". HONDA PROVIDED NO FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE, BECAUSE THE WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED, OFFERED NO EXPLANATION OR UNDERSTANDING, SEVERAL TIMES SPOKE UNPROFESSIONAL AND, THEREFORE, LOST A CUSTOMER. *KB
PREMATURE TIRE WEAROUT - EXTREME SHAKE, ESPECIALLY AY HIGHWAY SPEEDS. DEALER SAID NOTHING IS WRONG THEY WERE ACTUALLY WORN AT 20K CAR HANDLES HORRIBLE IN INCLEMENT WEATHER. BASED ON OTHER COMPLAINTS, I EXPECT THIS TO BE AN ISSUE EVERY 20K UNTIL HONDA STEPS UP AND ADMITS THEY HAVE A REAR SUSPENSION ISSUE WITH THE '08S. EXPERIENCED SEVERE VIBRATIONS/UNEVEN AND RAPID TIRE WEAR, FLAT SPOTS AND CUPPING ON REAR TIRES WITHIN FIRST 20K. REPLACED WITH FOUR NEW TIRES, THEN EXPERIENCED THE SAME SEVERE VIBRATIONS AND SYMPTOMS AT AROUND 33K. TSB FOR '06-'07 DESCRIBES SAME SYMPTOMS AND NEW CONTROL ARM TO RESOLVE ISSUE. HAVE TAKEN CAR TO HONDA DEALER WITH THIS ISSUE AND THEY STATE THAT MY '08 VEHICLE HAS THE UPDATED CONTROL ARM AND THAT CAR IS "FINE". OBVIOUSLY THIS IS A WIDE SPREAD PROBLEM FOR THE '08 AS WELL AND THE VEHICLE IS NOT "FINE". THERE ARE MANY MORE PEOPLE LISTED ON VARIOUS INTERNET AUTO PROBLEM SITES THAT HAVE ENCOUNTERED EXACTLY THE SAME PROBLEM AS I HAVE WITH THE SAME MAKE AND MODEL VEHICLE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS 2008 HONDA CIVIC. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 30 MPH WHEN SHE REALIZED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT SHIFT GEARS. IN ADDITION, THE VEHICLE WOULD STALL INTERMITTENTLY. THE CONTACT DID NOT TAKE THE VEHICLE TO A DEALER OR LOCAL MECHANIC FOR INSPECTION OR REPAIRS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,000. UPDATED 10/21/11
FOR THE SECOND TIME SINCE BUYING THIS CAR NEW THE DRIVER-SIDE VISOR HAS SPLIT IN HALF. THE SEPARATION OCCURRED AT THE SEAM WHERE TWO PLASTIC PARTS ARE JOINED. THE VISOR WILL NO LONGER SNAP INTO ITS PROPER POSITION AND HANGS DOWN, OBSTRUCTING VISIBILITY AND CREATING A DRIVING HAZARD. THE FIRST INCIDENT OCCURRED AT APPROXIMATELY 30,000 MILES. IT HAS BROKEN AGAIN AT 50,000 MILES. THIS APPARENTLY IS A CHRONIC PROBLEM ON THIS MAKE AND MODEL.
I HAVE A 2008 HONDA CIVIC AND THE DRIVER'S VISOR JUST DECIDED TO COME APART. IT IS STILL ATTACHED, BUT IT WILL NOT STAY UP IN IT'S PROPER POSITION, INSTEAD, IT FALLS IN FRONT OF MY FACE CAUSING ME TO BE DISTRACTED. I AM PAYING FOR SCHOOL OUT OF MY POCKET AND CANNOT AFFORD TO REPLACE IT JUST YET. I HAVE TO LEAVE IT DOWN AT ALL TIMES, AND IT CANNOT BE PUSHED BACK, I HAVE TO LEAVE IT STRAIGHT DOWN IN MY FACE AND BEND DOWN TO SEE STREET LIGHTS AND OTHER THINGS. IT JUST DID THIS ONE DAY, AND I NEVER EVEN USE MY VISOR. I ALSO ONLY HAVE ABOUT 40K MILES ON MY CAR. *TR
BOTH DRIVER'S AND PASSENGER'S SIDE VISORS SPLIT OPEN ALMOST SIMULTANEOUSLY. TODAY (6/5/2011) WAS FAIRLY HOT (IN SAN ANTONIO TX), WHILE DRIVING, I PULLED THE VISOR DOWN DUE TO THE BRIGHTNESS OF THE SUN AND THE BRIGHT REFLECTION OF THE SUN FROM ANOTHER CAR'S WINDOWS. MY DAUGHTER DID THE SAME THING ALSO. ALMOST AT THE SAME TIME, WHEN ADJUSTING THE VISORS BACK UP, THERE WAS THE SOUND OF A "POP" AND THE VISORS WOULD NOT STAY UP. THIS BECAME A SAFETY PROBLEM AS IT WOULD DANGLE IN THE FIELD OF VISION ALL THE TIME. THE PLASTIC APPEARS TO HAVE SPLIT DOWN THE CENTER JOINT ALONG THE LENGTH OF THE VISOR
THE VISOR ON MY 2008 HONDA CIVIC WILL NOT STAY UP. IT LOOKS LIKE A DEFECT ON THE LEFT-HAND HINGE. THE HINGE IS SPLIT OPEN AND MAKES THE SUN VISOR DROP. AFTER LOOKING ON THE INTERNET, IT SEEMS TO BE A MANUFACTURER DEFECT SINCE A LOT OF OTHER HONDA OWNERS SEEM TO HAVE THIS PROBLEM. POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS SINCE THE VISOR CONTINUALLY FALLING BLOCKS MY VISION THROUGH THE WINDSHIELD. IF I SWING IT TO THE LEFT, IT BLOCKS THE VIEW FROM THE DRIVERS SIDE OF THE WINDOW. *TR
2008 HONDA CIVIC HYBRID. CONSUMER STATES DYING IMA BATTERY ISSUES *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED THE DEALER PERFORMED AN UPDATE TO THE BATTERY, BUT IT ONLY WORKED FOR A FEW DAYS AND THEN THE SAME LOSS OF CHARGE WOULD HAPPEN AGAIN; ESPECIALLY IN HOT WEATHER. THE VEHICLE WOULD LOSE THE IMA CHARGE WHEN GOING UP A HILL AND WHEN MAKING TURNS. *JB THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE WOULD STALL. UPDATED 10/24/12. *JB
THE PAINT ON THE ROOF OF MY HONDA CIVIC STARTED TO FADE IN TWO SPOTS AND THEN THE SPOT GREW LARGER AND IS NOW DOWN TO THE METAL. I VISITED THE DEALERSHIP AND THE SERVICE MANAGER TOOK PICTURES AND WAS GOING TO SEND THEM TO THE AREA REPRESENTATIVE AND GET BACK TO ME. AFTER I DID NOT HEAR FROM HIM, I CALLED AND FOUND OUT THAT HE WAS NO LONGER WITH THE DEALERSHIP SO I ASKED FOR THE NEW SERVICE MANAGER. I LEFT SEVERAL MESSAGES AND MADE A PERSONAL VISIT AND THE NEW SERVICE MANAGER WAS BUSY WHEN I WAS THERE AND HE NEVER BOTHERED TO RETURN MY CALLS. AFTER CHECKING THIS ON THE INTERNET, I SEE THAT THIS IS ONGOING PROBLEM THAT HONDA HAS HAD AND CANNOT FIND OUT WHAT, IF ANYTHING HONDA HAS OR IS DOING ABOUT IT. *TR
THE VISOR BROKE OFF WITH NORMAL USE. *TR
I WAS DISTRACTED WHILE DRIVING ON S. WASHINGTON BLVD, ARLINGTON, VIRGINIA IN EXITING ONTO S. QUINN STREET/COLUMBIA PIKE EXIT AT HIGH SPEED. I SPUN OUT OF CONTROL AND DROVE ONTO AN ISLAND NEAR THE INTERSECTION, DRIVING OVER A STREET SIGN AND HITTING A METAL POLE HOLDING THE TRAFFIC LIGHTS. EXCESSIVE DAMAGE TO FRONT END OF VEHICLE, YET AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY. I WAS ONLY VEHICLE INVOLVED IN THE ACCIDENT AND HAD NO PASSENGERS. I RECEIVED HOSPITAL CARE THE FOLLOWING DAY FOR WHIPLASH AND MUSCLE PAIN IN MY NECK AND SHOULDER. THE POLICE OFFICE NOTED THAT IT WAS UNUSUAL THAT THE AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY GIVEN THE HIGH SPEED AND NATURE OF THE COLLISION. *TR
1) HOT DAYS 2) SUN VISORS FALL DOWN AND BLOCK VISION OF ROAD. 3) DRIVER'S SIDE WAS REPLACED BY DEALER OUT OF WARRANTY. I WAS CHARGED $30+ FOR THE PART BECAUSE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. PASSENGER SIDE HAS NOT BEEN FIXED. *TR
2008 HONDA CIVIC SI, 16,000 MILES HAD CLUTCH FAIL AND MANUFACTURER REFUSES TO COVER THIS ITEM. *TR
DRIVING ON THE EXPRESSWAY AND THE TRANSMISSION SEIZED UP AND THE VEHICLE CAME TO AN ABRUPT STOP. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP AND ALTHOUGH THE VEHICLE IS UNDER WARRANTY THE SAY THAT THE VEHICLE WAS ABUSED THEREFORE THEY WILL NOT COVER THE TRANSMISSION. HONDA HAS HAD NUMEROUS COMPLAINS REGARDING THE MANUAL TRANSMISSIONS AND THE FAILURES THAT THEY'VE HAD. *TR
AS I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE STREET MY BUMPER JUST POPPED OFF AND STARTED TO FALL OFF NOTHING WAS HIT I NEED TO KNOW IF THE REST OF THE CAR IS GOING TO FALL OFF IS IT A SAFETY CONCERN AS BUS DRIVER I AM A VERY SAFE DRIVER IF I'M GOING TO DIE AS THE CAR FALLS APART I NEED TO KNOW.... *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 HONDA CIVIC LX. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN DRIVING AT LOW SPEEDS OF APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH AND ATTEMPTING A TURN, THE VEHICLE WOULD EXHIBIT A LOUD NOISE. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY A DEALER AND THEY ADVISED HER THAT THE FRONT DRIVER AND PASSENGER AXLE WAS FRACTURED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THIS FAILURE RECURRED THREE TIMES PRIOR TO THE MOST RECENT FAILURE AND THE AXLES WERE REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT FURTHER REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND THEY OPENED A CASE ON THE CONTACT'S BEHALF. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 30,200.
WENT INTO CHURCH ONE MORNING AND WHEN WE GOT BACK INTO THE CAR, THE PASSENGER SIDE VISOR WAS BROKEN AND IS HANGING DOWN. THIS IS A CONCERN AS THERE HAVE BEEN NUMEROUS REPORTS OF THE DRIVER SIDE VISOR SUDDENLY BREAKING WHICH COULD POSE A HAZARD WHEN DRIVING AND CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. THIS NEEDS TO BE RECALLED AND CORRECTED. I AM UPSET THAT I WILL BE CHARGED FOR SOMETHING THAT IS OBVIOUSLY A DEFECTIVE PROBLEM WITH THE SUN VISOR AND COULD POSE A SERIOUS HAZARD FOR DRIVERS. *TR
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
PLASTIC ON THE SUN VISOR IN MY 2008 HONDA CIVIC HAS SPLIT/CRACKED AND WILL NO LONGER STAY UP. OR WHERE YOU PLACE IT. SAFETY HAZARD. *TT
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 HONDA CIVIC. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE PLASTIC COVER, LOCATED IN THE CENTER OF THE STEERING WHEEL WHERE THE AIR BAG WAS LOCATED, WAS CRACKED. THE CRACK EXTENDED APPROXIMATELY SEVEN INCHES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO INDICATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS CAUSED BY EXCESSIVE EXPOSURE TO SUN LIGHT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,000. UPDATED 09/15/15*LJ THE CONSUMER STATED AN EXPENSIVE SUN SHIELD HAS BEEN ON THE WINDSHIELD, SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS NEW. THE CONSUMER DID NOT BELIEVE THE DAMAGE WAS DUE TO SUN EXPOSURE. UPDATED 04/07/16. *JB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 HONDA CIVIC. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE PARKED, THE SUN VISOR SEPARATED ALONG ITS SEAM AND BLOCKED THE VIEW OF THE ROAD. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 28,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 29,000. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN.
TOOK CAR IN FOR OIL CHANGE 4/30/2011 AT HONDA DEALER. SERVICE DEPARTMENT PERFORMED REFLASH CAMPAIGN 10-034 WITHOUT ASKING. PREVIOUSLY HAD DECLINED THIS SERVICE AND IS NOTED IN SERVICE RECORDS NOT TO PERFORM THIS SERVICE EVER. CAR PERFORMANCE HAS BEEN SIGNIFICANTLY DIMINISHED SINCE THIS SERVICE HAS BEEN PERFORMED. CAR WILL NOT RELIABLY ACCELERATE SMOOTHLY FROM STANDSTILL (RED LIGHT) OR WHEN MERGING INTO HIGHWAY TRAFFIC AT 40-50 MPH. WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A STOP, VEHICLE MAY OR MAY NOT MOVE AT ACCEPTABLE SPEED CAUSING THE POTENTIAL TO ENTER TRAFFIC WITH INADEQUATE POWER TO GET UP TO SPEED OF ONCOMING TRAFFIC CREATING A HAZARDOUS SITUATION. THIS IS AN ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN, ESPECIALLY SINCE THE PERFORMANCE IS NOW INCONSISTENT AND YOU DO NOT KNOW WHEN IT MAY NOT ACCELERATE AS NEEDED. THE ENGINE WILL REV VERY HIGH BUT THE CAR WILL ONLY GO 5-10 MPH WITH PEDAL ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. HONDA DEALER HAS BEEN UNRESPONSIVE. I AM LIMITING DRIVING THIS CAR AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE AS THIS CAR IS UNSAFE IN TRAFFIC SITUATIONS. ALSO, THE AUTO-STOP FEATURE DOES NOT WORK AS PRIOR TO THE REFLASH, ENGINE IDLES MUCH HIGHER AT STOPS AND DOES NOT CUT OFF. THIS HAS DECREASED GAS MILEAGE SIGNIFICANTLY.
THE DRIVER'S SIDE SUN VISOR IS DEFECTIVE AND ONE DAY JUST SWUNG DOWN, PARTIALLY BLOCKING MY VISION. THE PLASTIC PARTS SPLIT OPEN AND THE ROD IS PARTIALLY EXPOSED. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE WHILE DRIVING BECAUSE IT WILL NOT STAY UP IN ITS CLOSED POSITION -- UNTIL I GET IT FIXED, THE VISOR IS EITHER DOWN IN FRONT OF MY FACE, OR IF I SWING IT OUT OF THE WAY, DOWN, BLOCKING MY LEFT VISION. THERE IS BASICALLY A SUN VISOR IN MY FACE ALL THE TIME WHILE DRIVING, EVEN IF IT IS NIGHT - THE MOST DANGEROUS TIME. I HAVE TO CONSTANTLY SWING IT OUT OF MY FACE, OR OUT OF THE WAY - EVEN JUST TO GET IN OR OUT OF THE CAR. *TR
I PURCHASED A 2008 HONDA CIVIC EX COUPE USED. IT WAS ONLY A FEW YEARS OLD. I READ A LOT OF THE COMPLAINTS ON THIS SITE ABOUT OTHER 2008 HONDAS. I DIDN'T SEE ANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT BRAKE LIGHTS. EVER SINCE I BOUGHT MY HONDA, I NOTICED THE THE 3RD BRAKE LIGHT HAS NEVER WORKED. THAT'S THE LIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE BACK WINDOW, WHICH IS A LED BRAKE LIGHT. EVEN THOUGH I BOUGHT THE CAR USED, IT WAS ONLY A FEW YEARS OLD WHEN I BOUGHT IT, AND SUPPOSEDLY, LED LIGHTS LAST LONGER THAN THE TRADITIONAL BRAKE LIGHTS. THE ONLY REASON I'M COMPLAINING ABOUT THIS IS THAT THIS LIGHT COSTS ABOUT $150 FOR THE LIGHT ITSELF, AND ANOTHER $150 TO INSTALL IT. IT'S NOT AN EXTREME SAFETY ISSUE, LIKE THE AIRBAGS AND OTHER ISSUES DESCRIBED ON THIS SITE, BUT IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE IN THE SENSE THAT THE DRIVER BEHIND ME WILL BE EXPECTING TO SEE THAT 3RD BRAKE LIGHT WHEN BRAKING. HAVE OTHER PEOPLE BEEN HAVING THIS ISSUE? MAYBE IT'S ONLY THIS VEHICLE...
THE SUNVISOR ON THE PASSENGER SIDE BROKE AND WAS REPLACED ABOUT A YEAR AGO, THE REPLACEMENT RECENTLY BROKE AND NEEDS REPLACED AT MY EXPENSE. THE VISOR HANG DOWN IN THE DRIVERS FIELD OF VIEW AND IS IN THE POSITION THAT A PERSON OF AVERAGE OR ABOVE AVERAGE HEIGHT CAN STRIKE THEIR HEAD UPON IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH OR EVEN ENTERING AND EXITING THE AUTOMOBILE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 HONDA CIVIC. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, THE VEHICLE SURGED FORWARD ABNORMALLY UNTIL ABRUPT PRESSURE WAS APPLIED TO THE BRAKES. THE FAILURE RECURRED ONCE MORE WHILE THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THEY WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 28,500.
I WAS DRIVING MY 2008 HONDA CIVIC WHEN MY VISOR SWUNG DOWN AND PARTIALLY BLOCKED MY VISION. UPON LOOKING AT THE VISOR, I NOTICED THE BACK HAD CRACKED OPEN AND THE VISOR WOULD NO LONGER CLOSE. EVENTUALLY I JUST REMOVED THE VISOR SO I WOULD NOT HAVE TO DEAL WITH IT ANY LONGER. *TR
I OWN A 2008 HONDA CIVIC WITH 42K MILES AND LIVE IN LAS VEGAS, NV. RECENTLY, MY PASSENGER SIDE SUN VISOR SPLIT AT THE SEAM . THIS EFFECTIVELY MAKES THE VISOR ALWAYS STUCK IN THE DOWN POSITION. I WOULD CONSIDER THIS A SAFETY HAZARD, AS IT BLOCKS MY VIEW AT NIGHT SINCE I AM UNABLE TO KEEP IT IN THE UPWARD POSITION. *TR
I GOT IN MY CAR AND PULLED DOWN THE SUN VISOR ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE AND IT BROKE. I TRIED PUSHING IT BACK UP AGAINST THE TOP LINING, BUT IT KEPT FALLING DOWN. I HAD TO DRIVE 10 MILES TO GET HOME WITH MY VISION PARTIALLY BLOCKED BECAUSE THE VISOR WOULD NOT STAY UP. I UNDERSTAND THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH MANY HONDA CIVICS. *TR
DRIVER SIDE VISOR HINGE BROKE AND VISOR SWUNG DOWN AND WILL NOT STAY UP. I DIDN'T EVEN PULL IT DOWN. IT FELL WHEN I WAS GOING OVER A SPEED BUMP AT A LOW SPEED! THE VISOR NOW BLOCKS MY VIEW WHEN DRIVING. *TR
THE SUSPENSION OF THE CARS IS NOT CALIBRATED CORRECTLY PER MY DEALER. THIS LEADS TO PREMATURE TIRE WEAR WHICH COULD LEAD TO FAILURE OF THE TIRES. *TR
THE FRONT SUSPENSION ON MY CAR WAS NOT SUFFICIENTLY LUBRICATED FROM THE FACTORY, LEADING TO "POPPING" AND "CLICKING" (BOTH VERY LOUD AND NOTICEABLE) WHEN TURNING. THE DEALER SAYS THE CIVICS WERE NOT GIVEN SUFFICIENT LUBRICATION AND THE SUSPENSION IS NOT BUILT CORRECTLY. *TR

MY 2008 HONDA CIVIC LX STARTED EXPERIENCING DOOR LOCK PROBLEMS IN MARCH OF 2011 (I CAN PROVIDE THE EXACT DATE, BUT WILL NEED TO GO THROUGH PAPERWORK TO FIND IT.). SINCE THAT POINT IN TIME, I HAVE HAD OVER A DOZEN LOCKS REPLACED. I HAVE THE DRIVER'S DOOR LOCK REPLACED 3 TIMES, THE DRIVER'S SIDE REAR DOOR REPLACED 4 TIMES, THE PASSENGER SIDE FRONT DOOR REPLACED 3 TIMES, AND THE PASSENGER SIDE REAR DOOR REPLACED 4 TIMES. THIS PROBLEM HAS CONTINUED EVEN AFTER THE EXTENDED WARRANTY RAN OUT. THERE IS SOME KIND OF ELECTRICAL SHORT CAUSING THE PROBLEM. I HAVE HAD CALLED AMERICAN HONDA TO GET THERE HELP AND THEY OFFERED TO FIX THE PROBLEM AS LONG AS I PAID $100 TOWARDS THE COST OF REPAIR. THAT IS RIDICULOUS CONSIDERING THE HISTORY OF ISSUES. THE CIVIC WAS TAKEN TO OTHER SERVICE PLACES AND THEY AGREED THAT THERE WAS A MAJOR PROBLEM WITH THE DOOR LOCKS AND ELECTRICAL. IN ADDITION, I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE CV AXLES TWICE ON THIS CIVIC. THE FIRST WAS DONE UNDER WARRANT AT APPROXIMATELY 38,000 MILES. I HAVE SINCE HAD TO CONTACT AMERICAN HONDA A SECOND TIME, AND BECAUSE AGAIN THE CAR WAS OUT OF WARRANTY I WAS REQUIRED TO PAY $400.00 TO COMPLETE THE REPAIR. THIS WAS NOT A FAIR COMPROMISE SINCE THIS VEHICLE HAS HAD MULTIPLE ISSUES. THE THIRD PROBLEM CONCERNS THE WHEELS BEARINGS. THE DRIVER'S SIDE FRONT LEFT WHEEL WAS REPLACED SHORTLY AFTER THE AXLES WERE REPLACED. I NOW AM HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM, WITH THE DRIVER'S SIDE FRONT LEFT WHEEL BEARING GOING BAD. I SPOKE WITH A MASTER MECHANIC, AND HE INFORMED ME THAT THE PROBLEM WAS CAUSED BY THE TECH AT SOUTHPOINT HONDA IN DURHAM HAVING OVER TORQUED THE BOLT TO SECURE THE WHEEL BEARING. I BELIEVE THE SAME PROBLEM OCCURRED THE FIRST TIME. AT THIS PONT IN TIME, I CAN NO LONGER USE THE KEY FOB TO ENTER THE CAR, SINCE THE DOOR LOCKS DO NOT FUNCTION PROPERLY, AND THE CAR IS CONSIDERED TO BE A LEMON BY SEVERAL MASTER MECHANICS. *TR
THERE IS A WELL DOCUMENTED DEFECT IN THE HONDA CIVIC BETWEEN YEARS OF 2006-2009 FOR THE REAR UPPER ARM SUSPENSION. THERE STILL IS A DEFECT IN THE GEOMETRY BY .75 DEGREES AND IS THE REASON FOR EARLY TIRE WEARING. ALL FOUR OF MY TIRES STARTED TO WEAR EARLIER THAN USAGE PERFORMED ON TIRE. LAST WEEK I HEARD A NEWS STORY ON TELEVISION AND THEN SAW AN ARTICLE IN THE L.A. TIMES WHICH STATED THAT NHTSA IS NOW INVESTIGATING THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM IN 2008 HONDA ACCORDS. NHTSA HAS RECEIVED 19 COMPLAINTS, INCLUDING A CONSUMER WHO WAS IN A 50 MPH ACCIDENT WHERE THE AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY. THE ARTICLE STATES THAT THIS IS THOUGHT TO BE A DEFECT WITH THE "AIR BAG CONTROL COMPUTER MODEL".
