TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 HONDA CR-V EQUIPPED WITH FIRESTONE AFFINITY TOURING TIRES, SIZE P205/70R15 95S. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS OVER 30 MPH, THE VEHICLE WOULD PULL TO THE RIGHT, WOBBLED, SHOOK, AND VIBRATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE FAILURES WERE CAUSED BY A BUBBLE LOCATED ON THE OUTER EDGE OF THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE TIRE. THE MANUFACTURER AND DEALER (AFFORDABLE TIRES IN ACTON, CA) WERE NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE TIRE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 20,000 AND THE VEHICLE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 230,000.
ON 3/16/2016 AT ABOUT 10.30 PM I WAS DRIVING TO MY WORK ON WOODBRIDGE AVE EDISON. SUDDENLY THE VEHICLE SHOOK AND CRASHED INTO RIGHT CURB AND POLE.BOTH THE FRONT AIRBAGS WERE OPEN AND MY SEAT BELT INTACT WHICH SAVED MY LIFE. I GOT DOWN AND SAW THE RT FRONT WHEEL ASSEMBLY CAMEOUT. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 HONDA CR-V EQUIPPED WITH B.F. GOODRICH TOURING T/A TIRES. WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO VIBRATE AND A LOUD BANG WAS HEARD. THE VEHICLE WAS PULLED OVER AND UPON EXAMINATION SHE NOTICED THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE TIRE WAS BLOWN OUT AND THERE WAS MINOR BODY DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE. A SPARE TIRE WAS INSTALLED AS REPLACEMENT. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 HONDA CR-V. THE VEHICLE HAS BRIDGESTONE DUELER H/T 684 II TIRES, SIZE P245/70R16. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH, THE CONTACT HEARD A LOUD NOISE COMING FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. HE PULLED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND DISCOVERED THAT THE TOP LAYER OF THE TIRE WAS SPLIT AROUND THE ENTIRE TIRE. THE VIN AND DOT NUMBER WERE UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 45,000.
AFTER WHAT SOUNDED LIKE THE BACK END OF MY CAR DROPPING OUT, I BEGAN TO PULL OFF THE I-5 FREEWAY (IN CENTRAL CA). WHEN I WAS PARTLY ON THE RIGHT SHOULDER I LOST CONTROL AND SPUN ACROSS BOTH SOUTH BOUND LANES, STOPPING IN THE MEDIAN. IT WAS TRULY A MIRACLE THAT I DIDN'T HIT ANOTHER CAR AND THAT NO CARS HIT ME. I DOUBT I WOULD HAVE SRUVIVED SUCH AN ACCIDENT. *JB
TWO OF THE TIRES HAVE BLOWN OUT WITHIN TWO MONTHS. STILL PLENTY OF TREAD ON THE TIRE WHEN BOTH HAPPENED. SECOND TIME IT BROKE THE BUMPER AND CRACKED THE FRAME. THESE TIRES SHOULD BE TAKEN OFF THE MARKET. *AK
CONSUMER STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING ABOUT 70 MPH ON THE FREEWAY HEARD A LOUD NOISE. CONSUMER THOUGHT SHE RAN OVER PIECES OF TIRE ON THE FREEWAY, BUT LATER LEARNED THAT ONE OF HER VEHICLE'S TIRES EXPLODED, AND THE TREAD WAS FROM THAT TIRE. CONSUMER STATED THAT VEHICLE WAS DIFFICULT TO HANDLE. BUT SHE WAS LUCKY BECAUSE IT HAPPENED AT A REST AREA, WHICH ALLOWED HER TO PULL OVER. ALSO, A PASSING MOTORIST PULLED OVER TO HELP HER, AND CALLED FOR THE STATE HIGHWAY PATROL. THEY CHANGED THE TIRE, AND CONSUMER WAS ON HER WAY. *AK
LEFT FRONT TIRE DEVELOPED A SPLITED IN THE SIDEWALL JUST BELOW THE TREAD, THE SPLIT IS APPROX 2-3INCHS LONG AND SHOWS NO SIGNS OF HAVING HIT OR RUBBED AGAINST ANYTHING (TIRE SIZE 205/70R15.955,DOT#EMYTJMJ489, BRIDGESTONE DUELER).
WHILE BACKING OUT OF PARKING SPACE, FELT RIGHT REAR TIRE GO FLAT. NO SIGNS OF PUNCTURE ANYWHERE. NO GLASS, NO NAILS. TIRES WERE INFLATED AT 28PSI. NO EXTRA LOAD IN VEHICLE. HAD 3 PASSENGERS. 1 ADULT, 2 CHILDREN. 1 STROLLER IN REAR. VEHICLE IS ONLY 4 MONTHS NEW. ONLY 2200 MILES. TIRE IS COMPLETELY FLAT. I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY APPROXIMATELY 65 MILES PER HOUR ON 9/7/00 2:25PM (APPROX). BLOW OUT OCCURRED, TOOK CONTROL OF THE CAR WHILE TRAVELING A BUSY FREEWAY. I MANAGED TO PULL OFF THE ROAD WITHOUT HITTING ANY OTHER CAR. I GOT OFF THE CAR, NOTICED THAT THE TIRE WAS COMPLETELY OFF THE RIM, TIRE WAS HALF A MILE (APPROX) AWAY. CALLED ROADSIDE ASSITANCE, TIRE WAS CHANGED. PHOTOS WERE TAKEN OF THE DAMAGE TO THE CAR AND REMAINING PORTION OF THE TIRE ON THE RIM. I WAS TOLD (BY A FIRESTONE MANAGER) TO RETRIEVE THE TIRE ON THE FREEWAY, WHICH I HAVE IN MY POSSESION, TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE. I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO DO THAT SINCE I WORK. I DID NOT DRIVE THE CRV TODAY, I DROVE MY OTHER CAR. I HAD MAINTENANCE PERFORMED ON MY CAR ON 9/5/00 AND NO TIRE PROBLEMS WERE REPORTED. HAVE THERE BEEN ANY OTHER SIMILAR INCIDENCES OF THIS TYPE OF BLOWOUT TO THIS TIRE. WHAT CAN BE AND/OR WHAT SHOULD BE DONE IN THIS CASE? I AM EXPERIENCING SORENESS /ACHES IN MY NECK AND BACK.
