TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 HONDA CR-V. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH, AN ABNORMAL NOISE WAS HEARD. UPON INSPECTION, IT WAS NOTICED THAT THE SUN ROOF VISOR HAD DETACHED FROM THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 175,000.
THE CAR STALLS ALL OF A SUDDEN. IF YOU TURN THE IGNITION SWITCH TO START, IT STARTS RIGHT BACK UP WITH NO PROBLEMS. IT HAPPENED 3 TIMES ALREADY. GOOD THING I WASNT DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. LAST TIME IT HAPPENED WAS JULY 31 2017.
WHILE DRVING THE VEHICLE, THE ENGINE JUST QUITS. SOMETIMES IT WILL STUTTER AND QUIT AND RESTART, OR I WILL PUT IT IN NEUTRAL WHILE COASTING AND RESTART. THERE ARE NO ENGINE CODES FOR THIS PROBLEM. *TR
WHILE ATTEMPTING A HARD STOP DURING A SUDDEN TRAFFIC LIGHT CHANGE TO YELLOW, THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND THE CAR EXPERIENCED AN EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCE. THE CAR FINALLY CAME TO A STOP ABOUT 10 FEET BEYOND THE STOP LINE.

AC COMPRESSOR EXPLODED SENDING PIECES OF METAL RIGHT BY THE COOLING SYSTEM. WE HAD JUST STARTED THE CAR AND THE FAN KICKED IN AND THAT'S WHEN IT HAPPENED
WHILE DRIVING MY HONDA ON THE FREEWAY TWO DAYS AFTER A HEAVY RAIN, I SMELLED A NAUSEATING BURNING ODOR. I PRESSED THE POWER WINDOW SWITCH TO LOWER WINDOWS. THE PASSENGER SIDE FRONT WINDOW STOPPED WORKING. THIS HAD OCCURRED SOME TIME AGO WITH THE DRIVER SIDE REAR WINDOW. I CHECKED HONDA RECALLS AND THERE IS ONE THAT MATCHES EXACTLY MY CIRCUMSTANCES, 12-067, BUT MY VIN IS NOT ELIGIBLE.THE RECALL STATES THAT WATER CAN DAMAGE THE POWER WINDOW SWITCH, CREATE A SHORT CIRCUIT AND MELT CONNECTORS, POSSIBLY CAUSING A FIRE. TIPTON HONDA, EL CAJON CA, TECHNICIAN FOUND MASTER SWITCH INTERNAL CIRCUIT DAMAGE AND UNPLUGGED IT .HE WOULD HAVE REPLACED IT BUT TIPTON DID NOT HAVE THE NECESSARY PARTS. NOT SURE IF THE BURNING CONNECTORS CONSTITUTE "A FIRE" OR NOT.

2001 HONDA CRV DOES NOT MEET THE SAFETY STANDARDS FOR PROPERLY INSTALLING MY BOOSTER CAR SEATS AS IT IS MISSING THE LATCH ANCHORING SYSTEM TO PROPERLY HOOK THE BOOSTER SEAT. AFTER TALKING TO THE HONDA DEALER WHICH TOLD ME THAT THE CAR SHOULD HAVE COME WITH IT, I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER TO SHOW ME WHERE IT WAS AND SAID THAT THEY DON'T KNOW WHY MY CAR DOES NOT HAVE THE LATCH. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT LOW SPEEDS AND ATTEMPTING A LEFT TURN, THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE LOWER BALL JOINT FRACTURED, CAUSING THE WHEEL TO BUCKLE UNDER. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO GET TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE VEHICLE WAS LATER TOWED TO THE CONTACT'S HOME. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE WOULD REPAIR THE DRIVER'S SIDE LOWER BALL JOINT HIMSELF. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 104,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 HONDA CR-V. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH, THE VEHICLE INDEPENDENTLY ACCELERATED TO 85 MPH. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL AND THEN APPLIED THE PARKING BRAKE IN ORDER TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE ENGINE WAS STILL INDEPENDENTLY REGISTERING OVER 7,000 RPMS. A DEALER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE BUT OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE TO THE CONTACT. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND ALSO OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 HONDA CR-V. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 50 MPH, WHEN SHE HEARD A LOUD NOISE FROM THE VEHICLE AND SMELLED SMOKE. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE AND INSPECTED UNDER THE HOOD. AS THE HOOD WS OPENED, THE ENGINE FELL. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TOWED TO THE DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS AWAITING DIAGNOSIS OF THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND THE CONTACT WAS AWAITING A RETURN CALL. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 113,000.
HONDA HAS A SERVICE BULLETIN (03-038) FOR A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THE CYLINDER HEAD. IN SEARCHING ONLINE, MANY HONDA CUSTOMERS WITH CR-V'S MANUFACTURED IN 2001 HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS ISSUE. THE REMEDY (AS DEFINED BY HONDA) IS TO ADJUST THE VALVES TO SPECIFIC CLEARANCES DURING ROUTINE MAINTENANCE, BUT THIS INFORMATION WAS NOT PASSED DOWN TO CUSTOMERS & MANY ARE FINDING THEMSELVES IN MY SAME SITUATION WITH THE ENTIRE CYLINDER HEAD NEEDING TO BE REPLACED. A COSTLY REPAIR FOR A FAULTY PART. HONDA IS AWARE OF THIS & IS UNWILLING TO COVER THE REPAIR. *TR
SUBJECT: WINDOW GOES OFF TRACK & MALFUNCTION EVEN AFTER REPLACING THE POWER WINDOW SWITCH & REGULATOR. FOR ABOUT A YEAR OR SO I'VE RECURRING PROBLEMS WITH THE WINDOW MASTER POWER SWITCH & REGULATOR. THEN, I THOUGHT IT IS CAUSED BY WEAR & TEAR. THEREFORE, I REPLACED THE FOLLOWING PARTS THINKING THE PROBLEM WOULD BE SOLVED: ON JANUARY 28, 2011, THE REGULATOR FOR DRIVER'S SIDE WINDOW WAS REPLACED BY BRAND NEW PART. ON APRIL 16,11 BOUGHT BRAND NEW WINDOW MASTER POWER SWITCH & REPLACED THE OLD ONE A WEEK LATER. UP UNTIL YESTERDAY (09/30/11), THE DRIVER'S SIDE & THE TWO BACK WINDOWS WERE WORKING PROPERLY. BUT, THE FRONT PASSENGER WINDOW IS STILL NOT WORKING. YESTERDAY, SEPTEMBER 30, 2011, AROUND 3.00 P. M., I PRESSED THE POWER SWITCH TO OPEN THE THE DRIVER'S SIDE WINDOW, THEN I HEARD UNUSUAL SOUND AND NOTICED THAT THE WINDOW WENT OFF TRACK. SINCE THEN EVERY THE WINDOW IS OFF TRACK.. THEN, I BEGAN TO RESEARCH ONLINE AND FOUND OUT THE ISSUE HAS BEEN DISCUSSED BY MANY PEOPLE. RIGHT NOW, TWO HONDA DEALERSHIPS TOLD ME I'VE TO PAY FOR FIXING THE PROBLEM. THE FAILURE CONTINUED TO OCCUR AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE CONTACT ALSO MENTIONED THAT THE ENGINE LIGHT WOULD INTERMITTENTLY ILLUMINATE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT WAS INSTRUCTED TO TAKE THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE CONTACT WAS NOTIFIED OF A SERVICE BULLETIN; HOWEVER, THE NUMBER WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE SERVICE BULLETIN EXPIRED IN 2005 AND COULD NOT BE PERFORMED. DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY THE TIRE EXPLODED (WITHOUT RUNNING OVER ANYTHING). IT BLEW OFF THE BUMPER AND THE LEFT-HAND BLINKER. IT ALSO DAMAGED THE UNDERCARRIAGE OF THE CAR. FORTUNATELY, NO ONE WAS INJURED. THE TIRE WAS ON THE REAR OF THE DRIVER SIDE OF THE HONDA CRV (2001). *TR

THE GLASS DELAMINATED DURING THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER OF THE SUNROOF BUT WAS INFORMED THAT THE PART WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE VOLUNTARY RECALL FOR THE FAILURE. 2001 HONDA CRV, AIR-CONDITIONER GETTING READY TO EXPLODE. I LIVE IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA, BUT LIVE IN BALMY SAN DIEGO COUNTY, SO I'VE USED THE AIR CONDITIONER VERY LITTLE, PERHAPS 25 TIMES ALL TOLD OVER THE PAST NINE YEARS. I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER, BABY MY CAR, AND GET ALL MAINTENANCE DONE LIKE CLOCKWORK OR SOONER. ABOUT THREE MONTHS AGO, THE RARELY-USED AIR CONDITIONER STARTED MAKING A HORRIBLE RACKET IMMEDIATELY ON STARTING IT. I STOPPED USING IT IMMEDIATELY, AND CHECK PERIODICALLY TO SEE IF IT'S STILL BROKEN. IT IS. I'VE RESEARCHED THE ISSUE AND WAS STUNNED TO FIND SO MANY OTHER COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE 1997-2001 CRV AIR CONDITIONERS EXPLODING, IMPLODING, OR OTHERWISE SELF-DESTRUCTING. I'VE REPEATEDLY CONTACTED VIA EMAIL AND VOICEMAIL THE LAW FIRM OF MAZIE SLATER KATZ & FREEMAN IN ROSELAND, NEW JERSEY WHO IS HANDLING A CLASS ACTION ON THIS VERY ISSUE, THE HONDA A/C DESIGN DEFECTS. BOTH ATTORNEYS MATTHEW MENDELSON AND KAREN KELSON ARE FAR, FAR TOO BUSY WITH THEIR BUSY DAYS TO RETURN VOICEMAILS AND EMAILS, SO I'M ASSUMING THEY'RE ONLY IN IT FOR THE FEES OF THE CLASS ACTION, RATHER THAN PROVIDING ANY TANGIBLE SOLUTIONS TO THIS PROBLEM FOR CONSUMERS, MUCH LIKE HONDA ITSELF RESPONSE TO THIS PROBLEM: IGNORE IT. MAYBE IT WILL GO AWAY. I'M DISGUSTED WITH BOTH FIRMS AT THIS POINT. OTHERWISE MY CAR IS IN FINE SHAPE, I'M VERY PLEASED WITH IT AND IT'S VERY LIKELY THE BEST CAR I'VE EVER OWNED. HOWEVER, THIS GLARING PROBLEM, WHEN IT RIPENS AS IT HAS FOR COUNTLESS OTHER HONDA DRIVERS, COULD DESTROY MY ENGINE, AND FRANKLY I DON'T HAVE THAT KIND OF MONEY TO FIX IT. LIVING IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA, SUCH AN EVENT WOULD SHUT DOWN MY LIFE ACROSS THE BOARD. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 HONDA CRV. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NOT GO INTO PARK. HE HAS CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER AND THEY SAID THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE 2002 CRV BUT NOT THE 2001. THE FAILURE IS GETTING PROGRESSIVELY WORSE. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 95,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 105,000.
MY 2001 HONDA CR-V AIR CONDITIONING COMPRESSOR IMPLODED AND SENT SHARDS OF METAL INTO THE AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM. THIS WAS WITHOUT WARNING, AS I JUST HAD MY AIR CONDITIONING SERVICED BY THE HONDA DEALERSHIP A MONTH AGO. I HAVE DISCOVERED THAT THIS IS A WIDESPREAD PROBLEM WITH HONDA CR-VS AND THAT HONDA AMERICA HAS NOT ADDRESSED THIS MAJOR DEFECT. I AM ESPECIALLY CONCERNED BECAUSE I LIVE IN ARIZONA, AND THE TEMPERATURE IS 108 DEGREES, WITH 113 PREDICTED FOR THE WEEKEND. THIS MAKES THE DEFECT VERY DANGEROUS. I AM PART OF A NON-PROFIT RESCUE GROUP AND REGULARLY TRANSPORT PETS; THIS COULD HAVE BEEN DEADLY IF IT HAPPENED WITH BABY KITTENS OR PUPPIES IN THE CAR. THE HONDA SERVICE SHOT SAID THEY TALKED WITH THE HONDA AMERICA REPRESENTATIVE AND THAT HE WOULD NOT COVER ANY OF THE REPAIRS, DESPITE IT BEING A WIDESPREAD DEFECT AND DESPITE THE FACT THAT THERE IS A LAWSUIT PENDING FOR THIS DEFECT. THE REPAIR WAS EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE, AND AGAIN, I JUST HAD THE AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM SERVICED AT THE SAME HONDA SERVICE SHOP THAT I HAVE BEEN USING FOR THE PAST 5 YEARS. I HAVE MAINTAINED THIS VEHICLE WELL AND HAVE ALL SERVICE RECORDS. THE CR-V IS A DANGEROUS VEHICLE BECAUSE OF THIS DEFECT, PARTICULARLY FOR PEOPLE LIVING IN STATES WITH EXTREME HEAT. *TR
WHILE DRIVING MY HONDA CRV EX AT APROX 50 MPH I REAR-ENDED A SMALL LIGHT WEIGHT TRUCK TRAVELING APROX 35 MPH. IN A VAIN ATTEMPT TO AVOID THE COLLISION I SLAMMED ON THE BRAKES AND TURNED THE WHEEL OF MY CRV HARD TO THE RIGHT. THE RUBBER BUMPER OF THE TRUCK AND MY FRONT LEFT LIGHTS AND HOOD TOOK THE IMPACT. MY COMPLAINT IS THAT THE AIRBAG IN MY CRV DID NOT DEPLOY AND I SEVERELY INJURED MY RIGHT SHOULDER, NECK AND BACK. I ALSO INJURED MY RIGHT FOOT. KNEE AND HIT MY HEAD ON THE STEERING WHEEL. THE BODY SHOP CONCURS THOUGH THE FIREMEN AT THE SEEN DISCONNECTED THE AIRBAG WHILE THE EMTS WERE REMOVING ME FROM THE VEHICLE STATING THAT SINCE THE AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY ON IMPACT, IT COULD, IN FACT DEPLOY AT ANY TIME IN THE FUTURE WITHOUT PROVOCATION. AFTER DISCUSSING THE SITUATION WITH INDIVIDUALS WHO'VE OWNED AND OPERATED BODY SHOPS FOR MANY, MANY YEARS, THEY AND I FEEL THAT THE EXISTING AIRBAG IS SOMEHOW DEFECTIVE. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON TO MY 2001 HONDA CR-V. IDENTIFIED AS A MISFIRE IN CYL #1, AND LOW COMPRESSION IN THAT CYLINDER. THE HEAD WAS REMOVED, AND ONE OF THE EXHAUST VALVES IN THE #1 CYLINDER WAS BURNED. THE VALVE CLEARANCE ON THAT CYLINDER WAS ZERO. A "VALVE JOB" WAS DONE AND THE ENGINE WAS REASSEMBLED. 2001 HONDA CRV STARTED TO HAVE A ROUGH IDLE FOLLOWED BY THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TURNING ON APPROXIMATELY ONE YEAR AGO. TOOK THE VEHICLE IN FOR A TUNE UP AT A LOCAL DEALER AND PROBLEM TEMPORARILY WENT AWAY. RECENTLY THE PROBLEM GOT WORSE AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME BACK ON. THE HONDA DEALER EVALUATED THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT REPORTED THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE VALVES. I HAD THE DEALER CONDUCT A VALVE ADJUSTMENT AND THEY REPORTED THAT COMPRESSION ON THE #3 CYLINDER ONLY REPORTED 45 PSI AND RECOMMENDED REPLACING THE CYLINDER HEAD AT A COST OF $4500 DOLLARS. THE SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE THE HONDA DEALERSHIP WAS AWARE OF PROBLEMS WITH THE HONDA CRV AND HONDA HAS NOT TAKEN ANY RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE PROBLEM NOR OFFERED TO REPAIR THE PROBLEM. THE MANUFACTURER ASSIGNED HIM A CASE NUMBER SO THAT ONE OF THEIR ENGINEERS COULD IDENTIFY THE DEFECT. AFTER SEVERAL WEEKS, NO ONE CALLED THE CONTACT BACK. HE CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND THEY ASSIGNED HIS CASE TO ANOTHER ENGINEER, IN WHICH NOW THEY DO NOT FEEL IT WAS A DEFECT. THEY BELIEVE THAT THE CONTACT IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE AIR CONDITIONER COMPRESSOR RUPTURING. THE VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY AT THE DEALER AND HAS BEEN THERE FOR TEN DAYS. NO REPAIRS HAVE BEEN MADE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 102,000.

2001 HONDA CR-V SE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WENT ON, IDLE BECAME EXTREMELY ROUGH AND STALLING WHILE DRIVING. NOTHING UNUSUAL PRECEDED THIS INCIDENT. TOOK THE CAR INTO TO BE DIAGNOSED AND WAS TOLD THE 4TH CYLINDER WAS ONLY HOLDING 15-20% OF REQUIRED PRESSURE, IT HAD GONE SOFT. RESEARCHED ISSUE AND FOUND HONDA HAS ISSUED A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN #03038 REGARDING THIS PROBLEM. IT IS A KNOWN DEFECT IN THE HONDA CR-V AS THE HONDA MAINTENANCE GUIDE DOES NOT RECOMMEND ANY VALVE MAINTENANCE UNTIL 105,000 MILES. HOWEVER, IT HAS BEEN FOUND THAT THE ENGINE'S HIGH COMPRESSION RATE CAUSES THE VALVES TO WARP AND BECOME SOFT UNLESS THEY ARE ADJUSTED EVERY 30,000-35,000 MILES. HAVE BEEN IN CONTACT WITH HONDA AND ALL THEY ARE WILLING TO DO IS SPLIT THE COST 50/50 OF THIS MAJOR REPAIR, OVER $3,000. 1. INITIALLY, THE REMOTE DOOR LOCK FOR DRIVER SIDE DOOR STARTED MAKING A BUZZING NOISE, BUT IT STILL WORKED. 2. THE INTERIOR DOOR HANDLE LEVER (PLASTIC WITH A HARD PLASTIC COATING) TO THE DRIVER'S DOOR BROKE OFF..AND CAUSED SEVERAL CUTS TO MY HAND...BUT...IT WAS STILL POSSIBLE TO OPEN THE DOOR BY APPLYING PRESSURE TO THE STUB OF THE LEVER. 3. THE REMOTE DOOR ENTRY LOCK (TO THE DRIVER DOOR) STOPPED WORKING, BUT IT WAS STILL POSSIBLE TO LOCK AND UNLOCK THE DOOR WITH THE KEY. 4. TODAY, IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO OPEN THE DRIVER'S DOOR WITH THE KEY OR WITH THE REMAINS OF THE INTERIOR DOOR LEVER OR BY ANY OTHER MEANS THAT I CAN FIGURE OUT.
