I DID NOT RECEIVE A RECALL FOR "AIR BAGS: FRONTAL" ISSUED IN JUNE 2004. ALSO, THE AC COMPRESSOR WENT OUT ON MY 2004 HONDA CR-V. I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALERSHIP I BOUGHT THE CAR FROM THAT THEY HAD BEEN HAVING A LOT OF TROUBLE REPORTED ON THE AC COMPRESSORS. THEY CHARGED ME $395 PLUS TAX TO REPLACE MINE. I FEEL IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN REPLACED FREE SINCE THE CAR WAS ONLY 3 YEARS OLD. *JB
VEHICLE HEADLIGHTS LOW BEAM START FAILING ON DRIVERS SIDE. BURNING OUT OFTEN - WHILE OTHER SIDE HEADLIGHT REMAINED STABLE. REPLACE HEADLIGHTS (BOTH SIDES) MANY TIMES AFTER THAT - ONLY TO HAVE THE DRIVERS SIDE FAIL AFTER ABOUT A YEAR AND A HALF. DRIVERS SIDE HEADLIGHT WOULD ALSO CHANGE TO VERY DIM WHILE OTHER SIDE REMAINED BRIGHT. PROBABLY SIMILAR TO A FLASHLIGHT, - NEEDING BATTERIES. WOULD ALWAYS FLICK BRIGHT LIGHTS ON FOR A WHILE, OR TUG ON HEADLIGHT WIRE IN ENGINE COMPARTMENT AND LIGHT WOULD CHANGE TO NORMAL BRIGHT COLOR AFTER THIS. WHEN CAR WAS TURNED OFF, - THE WHOLE SITUATION WOULD REPEAT ITSELF NEXT TIME CAR STARTED UP AND RAN AT NIGHT WITH LIGHTS ON. NOTICED RADIO DISPLAY PANEL WOULD GO OUT ALSO, -- BLACK OUT, ONLY TO COME BACK ON LATER. THAT WOULD BE THE CLOCK AND STATION RADIO LCD PANEL DISPLAY. HAD CAR PROBLEM FIXED SEVERAL TIMES THROUGHOUT THE YEARS, AT LEAST TWICE AT PRIVATE MECHANICS, TWICE AT HONDA DEALERSHIP, - PLUS RECALLED AT HONDA DEALERSHIP IN 2012 FOR HEADLIGHT WIRING FAILURE AND PROBLEMS, PLUS BACK IN THE DEALERSHIP ONE MONTH LATER IN 2012 FOR SAME PROBLEM, PLUS BACK IN DEALERSHIP 6/9, 6/10, 6/11 2014 WITH SAME PROBLEM. AFTER SPENDING SEVERAL THOUSAND DOLLARS OVER THE YEARS FOR VARIOUS FIXES, THIS TIME (2014) DEALERSHIP ONCE AGAIN HAS FINALLY FOUND THE PROBLEM - WIRING HARNESS ATTACHED TO ENGINE FIREWALL COMPARTMENT BAD. MELTING, CORROSIVE, AND WIRES WITH INSULATION MISSING IN HARNESS, - BUT ANOTHER 1850 DOLLARS WOULD COVER A NEW WIRE HARNESS PLUS INSTALLATION. PAID 91 DOLLAR DIAGNOSTIC FEE, PICKED UP CAR AND LEFT. RESEARCHED PROBLEM ON INTERNET AND FOUND MANY HONDA CRV'S FROM AROUND THOSE YEARS WITH SAME PROBLEMS. REPORTED SITUATION TO HONDA AND OPENED A CASE NUMBER WITH THEM. THE LATEST CASE NUMBER BEING N012014-06-1100779, ASSIGNED 6/11/14 BY HONDA. *JS
AIR CONDITIONER BEGAN TO RATTLE, THEN RUPTURED AND FELL OFF WHILE DRIVING DOWN HIGHWAY, SENDING DEBRIS OUT ON THE ROAD IN THE PATH OF ONCOMING TRAFFIC. *TR
DRIVER SIDE SUNVISOR CAN NOT STAY IN ITS PLACE. WHEN IT DROOPS DOWN, VISIBILITY IS AFFECTED.
I WAS DRIVING ALONG AND HEARD A POP AND THE AIR CONDITIONING STARTED MAKING A REVVING NOISE AND THE TEMPERATURE OF THE AIR TURNED TO WARM. I TURNED THE AIR CONDITIONER OFF AND HAD TO DRIVE FOR THE NEXT 7 HOURS WITHOUT AIR CONDITIONING. UNFORTUNATELY, I DON'T REMEMBER EXACTLY WHAT WAS WRONG BUT IT WAS LUCKILY STILL COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. HOWEVER, IT WAS TOLD TO ME THAT THIS WASN'T A NORMAL THING TO HAPPEN. *TR
DRIVING AND HEARD LOUD NOISE, A/C QUIT COOLING, TOOK TO HONDA DEALERSHIP AND WAS DX AS NEEDING A NEW COMPRESSOR CLUTCH COIL, DEALER PAID PART OF THE COST. *TR
I HAVE LESS THAN 30,000 MILES AND MY A/C IS NOT WORKING....AND OFCOURSE THE DEALS TELLS ME IT WILL COST ME $700 TO REPLACE. I TOLD HIM THAT THE REASON I BOUGHT A HONDA IS ITS REPUTATION...IF AN AMERICAN CAR DOES NOT HAVE THESE PROBLEMS WHY SHOULD I PAY MORE FOR A HONDA AND PAY MORE FOR MAINTAINENCE. I TOLD THEM IT IS A DESIGN FLAW... IT IS 4X4 SO THEY EXPECT YOU NOT TO RIDE ON TOUGH ROADS??? IT SEEMS THAT THIS PROBLEM IS VERY COMMON ON NEW HONDA CARS, SUV'S AND VANS. IF HONDA EXPECTS A F$X$ TO RIDE ON TOUGH ROADS DOES IT MEAN THAT YOUR A/C SHOULD NOT WORK BECAUSE A SMALL PEBLE GETS IN? HONDA SHOULD BE ASKED TO FIX THE PROBLEM FOR FREE... IT IS A DESIGN FLAW. WELL...IF IT GETS REALLY HOT DO THEY EXPECT YOU NOT TO USE THE A/C? ARE WE SUPPOSED TO FRY IN HEAT? PAY OR YOU FRY...NICE MONEY MAKING MACHINE THAT HONDA HAS FOUND. I HOPE THEY ARE NOT ALLOWED TO DO BUSINESS IN THE UNITED STATES IF THEY DO NOT HAVE GOOD BUSINESS PRACTICE. WE SHOULD ALL JOIN IN AND FIGHT FOR HONDA TO CORRECT THEIR BAD DESIGN. THEY SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE.
I HAD TAKEN MY SON TO A LOCAL PARK FOR BATTING PRACTICE AND WHEN WE WERE READY TO LEAVE I HAD ASKED MY SON PUT THE BAT AND BALLS IN THE TRUNK OF THE 2004 HONDA CRV. WHEN MY SON HAD PULLED THE HANDLE TO OPEN THE TRUNK, INSTEAD OF SWINGING OPEN, THE TRUNK HAD FALLEN OFF AS THE HINGE PIN BROKE. THE DOOR FELL DOWNWARD, SUSTAINED A LEFT A SIGNIFICANT SCRATCH ON HIS LEG. HAD HE NOT MOVED QUICKLY THE DOOR COULD HAVE CAUSED A SERIOUS INJURY RATHER THAN JUST A SCRATCH OR HAD MY PREGNANT WIFE BEEN THE ONE TO OPEN IT A VERY SERIOUS INJURY COULD HAVE OCCURRED. I BROUGHT THE CAR TO FRONTIER HONDA IN LONGMONT, CO, AND WAS TOLD THEY WOULD NOT COVER THE FIX BECAUSE I WAS OVER THE WARRANTY AND NEVER HAD SERVICED THE CAR WITH HONDA, EVEN THOUGH IT WAS KEPT UP ON ALL NECESSARY MAINTENANCE). ONE PERSON AT THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME IT WAS CLEARLY A DEFECT, WHILE HONDA AMERICA , TOLD ME IT WAS MY OWN FAULT FOR NOT HAVING THE CAR SERVICED REGULARLY AT HONDA. I WAS SO DISGUSTED AT THEIR LACK OF CONCERN FOR THE PROBLEM THAT THE VERY NEXT WEEKEND, I TOOK THE CAR TO TOYOTA AND TRADED IT IN FOR A SAFER VEHICLE.*AK
COMPLETE AIR CONDITIONING FAILURE ON AN '04 CRV, AFTER 8 MONTHS OF OWNERSHIP. ONLY OCCURRED ONCE TO THIS POINT. I CONTACTED HONDA. THEY TOLD ME IT WASN'T UNDER WARRANTY ANY MORE. REPAIR WAS $1,700.00 HONDA FINALLY COVERED THE PARTS UNDER (GOOD FAITH AGREEMENT) AFTER I HOUNDED THEM. *TR
HEARD A "POP" SOUND WHILE DRIVING. A/C STOPPED WORKING, WARM AIR, HEATER ONLY. AFTER BEING CHECKED BY MIDAS, A REPLACEMENT COST OF THE COMPRESSOR/CONDENSER (SAME PART) WAS QUOTED FOR OVER $2,000. I HAVE BEEN WITHOUT AC SINCE (HAPPENED IN 2007). HONDA QUOTE IS OVER $2,000 AS WELL. *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 HONDA CR-V. THE SRS WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE CABLE REEL FAILED AND THEY REPLACED THE CABLE REEL. THERE HAD BEEN NO FURTHER OCCURRENCES. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT HIS VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 04V255000 (AIR BAGS: FRONTAL). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 35,249. ABOUT 2 WEEKS AGO MY HONDA CR-V 2004 STALLED IN A CAR WASH AND WOULDN'T START. AFTER ABOUT 20 MINUTES I WAS ABLE TO GET IT STARTED. SINCE THEN MY CR-V HAS HAD TROUBLE STARTING. I'VE ALSO NOTICED MY HEATER NOT WORKING AS EFFECTIVELY AND JUST RECENTLY THE CAR STARTED TO OVER HEAT. I TOOK IT TO THE MECHANIC IMMEDIATELY. AFTER A DAY THEY SAID I HAD GOTTEN WATER IN MY GAS TANK AND A WATER BUBBLE IN MY COOLANT SYSTEM. THEY FLUSHED EVERYTHING OUT, DRIED IT AND REPLACED MY COOLANT. SO FAR MY CAR SEEMS TO BE RUNNING SMOOTHLY AGAIN. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY, THE DRIVER FRONT TIRE SUFFERED TREAD SEPARATION. THE VEHICLE WAS MANEUVERED OFF THE ROAD, WHERE THE TIRE WAS CHANGED. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO THE TIRE DEALER WHO REPLACED THE TIRES. THE VEHICLE DEALER WAS NOT ALERTED. THIS WAS A BRIDGESTONE DUELER AT, SIZE: P205/70R15. UPDATED 12/28/2006 - *NM
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 HONDA CR-V. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SRS LIGHT ILLUMINATED WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS ON. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE CONTACT WAS NOT AWARE OF THE NECESSARY REPAIR. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
WHILE DRIVING IN WARM AND VERY WET WEATHER I HEARD A LOUD POP AND THE AIR CONDITIONER ON THE 2004 CR-V STOPPED BLOWING COLD AIR. IN ORDER TO SEE THROUGH THE FOGGED WINDOWS WE HAD TO RUN THE WIDOW DEFOGGER ON HIGH, BLOWING HOT AIR FOR THE REMAINING 3 HOURS OF OUR ROAD TRIP. WE WERE MISERABLE, TO SAY THE LEAST. UPON RETURNING TO HOUSTON I TOOK THE CAR TO A MECHANIC ,WHO ELEVATED IT AND SHOWED ME THE AIR COMPRESSOR. THE HOUSING OF THE COMPRESSOR IS SHATTERED. IT LOOKS LIKE A HARD-BOILED EGG SHELL AFTER BEING CRACKED. THIS IS A FAULTY PART, WHICH I'M TOLD WILL COST $700 FOR JUST THE COMPRESSOR. THE MECHANIC TOLD ME THAT WHEN HE CONTACTED A DEALER, THE SERVICE MANAGER TOLD HIM THEY HAD SOLD 5 FROM THAT DEALER ALONE THAT MONTH! IN OCTOBER! THE CAR WAS ONLY 2 YEARS OLD. *AK
THIS IS NOT SO MUCH A SAFETY ISSUE AS A FINANCIAL ONE. IT SEEMS THAT BITS OR METAL GO THROUGH THE COMPRESSOR. AC WAS REPAIRED BY (BAILEY) DEALERSHIP UNDER/AT 24,000 MIL. NOW AT 76 K, AC WENT OUT AGAIN. DEALER (MOMENTUM) WANTED $4,010. TO REPAIR BUT HONDA OFFERED TO PAY 1/2 LEAVING MY SHARE TO BE $2,005. TOO MUCH. I HAD COMPRESSOR, ETC REPLACED ELSEWHERE FOR MUCH LESS AND WAS TOLD THERE WAS NO OIL IN THE COMPRESSOR. I WOULD LIKE THIS INFO. SENT TO THE HONDA MANUFACTURE. WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY ABOUT TWO MONTHS AGO, I WAS SHOCKED OR BOLTED AND SOMETHING WENT THROUGH MY BODY. IT WAS LIKE AN ELECTRICAL SHOCK. ALSO, MY DOOR LOCKS KEEP OPENING AND CLOSING WHILE I AM DRIVING. ITS HAPPENED A COUPLE TIMES AND IT HAS SCARED ME. I DON'T KNOW IF THAT WOULD HAVE ANYTHING TO WITH THE SHOCK I RECEIVED IN THE VEHICLE, AND SOMETHING KEEPS GOING OFF IN MY CAR, IT SOUNDS LIKE A TIMER. I TOOK IT TO HONDA, THEY KNOW NOTHING ABOUT THE SOUND I HEAR AND SINCE ITS NOT A MANUFACTURE WARRANTY, I DID SEND IN THE WARRANTY TO THE RADIO AND I THOUGHT THE RADIO AND THE LOCKS ARE CONNECTED ON MY VEHICLE FOR SECURITY PURPOSES. BEEN HAVING MEDICAL PROBLEMS, DON'T KNOW IF THE SHOCK COULD OF CONTRIBUTED TO IT. I THINK I KEEP GETTING SHOCKED EVERY TIME I DRIVE IT. THE NUMBER OF FAILURES WOULD BE A NUMBER I WOULDN'T KNOW SINCE IT HAPPENS EVERYDAY. *NM
I WAS DRIVING MY 2004 HONDA CR-V WITH THE AIR CONDITIONER ON, AND I HEARD A POP AND THEN A RATTLE. THEN, MY AIR CONDITIONER STOPPED BLOWING COLD AIR. AS I TESTED THE AIR CONDITIONER, I COULD TELL THAT THE AIR CONDITIONER WAS NOT KICKING IN. I SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT WITH HONDA SERVICE, AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THE COMPRESSOR SHAFT WAS BROKEN, AND THAT THE AIR COMPRESSOR, CLUTCH, AND COIL NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THIS REPAIR WAS VERY COSTLY ($1300) AND IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. I WAS VERY DISAPPOINTED THAT MY AIR CONDITIONER WOULD FAIL AFTER ONLY 2 YEARS OF USE. HONDA SERVICE TOLD ME THAT IT LOOKED LIKE NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR. MY COMPLAINT LIES IN THE POSSIBILITY THAT THIS PART WAS DEFECTIVE. IF NOT, THEN THIS INCIDENT COULD HAPPEN AGAIN IN ANOTHER 2 YEARS. *JB

2004 HONDA CRV WITH ONLY 24,000 MILES, PURCHASED NEW, LOCAL DRIVING -LEFT REAR BRAKE PAD TOTALLY WORN TO METAL. RIGHT REAR - SOME SCORING ON ROTOR. FRONT PADS AND ROTORS SEEM OK. DEFECT IN BRAKE PAD - CRITICAL SAFETY ISSUE. *NM
I HAD DRIVEN ABOUT 61/2 MILES WHEN THE DRIVE LIGHT (LIGHT SHOWING THE GEAR YOU ARE USING) WENT OUT AND THE CAR STARTED TO STALL. THE GEAR LIGHT CAME BACK ON AND THE CAR CONTINUED TO RUN. ABOUT 30 SECONDS LATER THE SAME THING HAPPENED. I CONTINUED THE 2 1/2 MILES HOME. I CALLED THE HONDA DEALERSHIP WHERE I HAD PURCHASED THE CAR IN AUG. 2003, AND EXPLAINED THE PROBLEM. I WAS TOLD THAT IT PROBABLY HAD SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE FACT THAT I WAS VERY CLOSE TO NEEDING THE 40,000 MILE MAINTENANCE. I WAS TOLD TO DRIVE IT OVER THE WEEKEND AND SEE IF THE PROBLEM PERSISTED. MY HUSBAND AND I DROVE IT TO INDIANA LIKE WE HAD PLANNED, TO BRING BACK SOME ITEMS FROM HIS GRANDMOTHERS, GARAGE. WE HAD NO PROBLEMS ON SATURDAY, BUT ON SUNDAY JUST OUTSIDE OF FT. WAYNE THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE GEAR LIGHT WENT OUT. WE TOOK IT TO THE HONDA DEALER SHIP ABOUT 4 MILES AWAY. WE LEFT THE CAR AND RENTED A VEHICLE TO GET HOME. THE HONDA MECHANICS HAD THE CRV FOR A WEEK BUT COULD NOT FIND A PROBLEM. WE PICKED THE CAR UP THE FOLLOWING SATURDAY AND BY THE TIME WE MADE IT TO THE HIGHWAY, THE CAR WAS ACTING UP AGAIN. WE DROVE BACK TO COLUMBUS PULLING OVER EVER 7 OR 8 MINUTES TO TURN THE ENGINE OFF FOR 5 MINUTES. ABOUT HALF WAY HOME THE CAR STALLED AT A RED LIGHT. THIS HAPPENED SEVERAL MORE TIMES BEFORE WE MADE IT HOME. THIS PROBLEM HAS PERSISTED OVER THE LAST 10 WEEKS. IT HAS BEEN BACK AND FORTH TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE THOUGHT THAT THE PROBLEM HAD BEEN SOLVED WHEN SOME WIRING WAS REPLACED BUT THE FOLLOWING DAY, THE PROBLEMS CONTINUED. TODAY IS AUGUST 19TH AND IT HAS BEEN 11 WEEKS OF HEADACHES AND STRESS. *JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 HONDA CRV. WHILE DRIVING 60-65 MPH, THE STEERING VEERED TO THE RIGHT. THE VEHICLE CRASHED INTO A DITCH. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CONTACT'S INSURANCE COMPANY WOULD NOT PAY FOR THE DAMAGES. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 25,000.
2004 HONDA CR-V, PROBLEM STARTED AROUND 21,500 MILES. I HAVE A CLUNKING SOUND WHEN GOING OVER BUMPS OR RUTS IN THE ROAD. MORE SO IF RIGHT FRONT WHEEL HITS A LOWER PART OF THE ROAD. SOUNDS AS IF SOMETHING IS LOOSE. STILL UNDER WARRANTY. TAKEN TO DEALER TWICE. THEY REPLACED STRUT AND SECOND TIME MOVED THE ENGINE MOUNT OVER. IT DID NOT HELP. SOUNDS AS THOUGH METAL CLUNKING AGAINST METAL. WILL TAKE TO ANOTHER DEALER TO SEE IF THEY CAN FIND THE PROBLEM. *JB
THE CONSUMER'S 2004 HONDA CRV EXPERIENCED CORROSION AND 4 WHEEL DISC BRAKE PAD SEIZING INTO POSITION WHICH CAUSED THEM TO WEAR. *TS THE ENTIRE REAR BRAKE SYSTEM WAS REPLACED ALONG WITH THE FRONT PADS AND THE ROTORS WERE TURNED (UNDER WARRANTY). THIS VEHICLE WAS LEASED FOR THE CONSUMER'S DAUGHTER. *SC
WHEN FUELING THE AUTO SHUT OFF DOES NOT WORK LEADING TO FUEL SPILL. IF IT DOES CLICK OFF THERE IS ALWAYS A BACKWASH OF EXCESS FUEL SPILLING OUT OF FILLER TUBE. *NM
PURCHASED 2004 HONDA CRV EX 8/04. UPON FILLING THE GAS TANK, GAS SPURTS OUT WHILE PULLING OUT THE NOZZLE FROM THE TANK. I'VE HAD GAS LAND ON MY LEGS AND QUITE A PUDDLE ON THE GROUND. TALKED WITH SERVICES ADVISORS AT HONDA TWICE ABOUT IT AND WAS TOLD THEY'VE NEVER HEARD OF SUCH A THING -- TRY HOLDING THE NOZZLE IN FOR 3 SECONDS AFTER FILLING -- SHOULD TAKE CARE OF THE PROBLEM -- IT DIDN'T! THIS PROBLEM OCCURS EVERY TIME YOU FILL UP. THE ONLY TIME IT DOESN'T IS WHEN YOU DON'T PUT THE NOZZLE ALL THE WAY INTO THE FILLING NECK. SEEMS A VACUUM IS MADE WHEN YOU DO AND UPON RETRACTING THE NOZZLE IT RELEASES AND GAS SPURTS OUT. I REPORTED THIS AGAIN TO A SERVICE ADVISOR AT HONDA 8/05 AND I'VE BEEN REQUESTED TO BRING THE VEHICLE IN ON 8/19/05 TO TAKE A LOOK AT IT. I NOTICED ONE OTHER COMPLAINT ABOUT THIS ISSUE ON YOUR WEBSITE. WHATEVER HAPPENED TO THEIR CONCERN? *JB
DT: THE CONTACT STATED ALL FOUR TIRES WORE OUT IN LESS THAN A YEAR. SHE NOTICED THE TIRES WERE NOT HOLDING AIR. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A TIRE REPAIR SHOP AND THEY PLUGGED THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE TIRE. THE TIRE SHOP STATED THERE WERE MULTIPLE SMALL HOLES IN THE TIRES. SINCE SHE HAS NOT RUN OVER ANYTHING THERE WAS NO EXPLANATION FOR THE HOLES. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN TO A DEALERSHIP, WHO DETERMINED, THE TIRES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *AK

I ASKED TO SEE THE GASKET AND THE SERVICE TECH SHOWED IT TO ME. I DROVE THE CAR HOME AND WHEN I LEFT FOR WORK THE NEXT MORNING THERE WAS A LARGE (SIZE OF A SHEET OF PAPER) SPILL OF OIL ON THE GARAGE FLOOR. THE CAR WAS PURCHASED IN AUG 04 AND THE OIL CHANGE HAPPENED IN JAN 17, 05. THERE WAS NO PREVIOUS OIL LEAKAGE BEFORE THE OIL CHANGE. APPROXIMATELY 4 MONTHS LATER, IT HAD WORKED ITSELF OUT AGAIN BUT THE DEALERSHIP DID NOT HAVE THE TIME TO ADDRESS IT ON THAT VISIT. I TOOK IT BACK 2 WEEKS LATER AND THEY REPLACED THE ENTIRE MOON ROOF MECHANISM. THREE MONTHS LATER, I RETURNED WITH THE SAME RATTLE AND THEY TIGHTENED THE BOLT AND SAID NOTHING ELSE COULD BE DONE, THAT I WOULD HAVE TO DEAL WITH IT. I LODGED A COMPLAINT WITH THE HONDA CORPORATION AND THEY TOLD ME TO TAKE IT TO A DIFFERENT HONDA DEALERSHIP, LIE TO THEM AND TELL THEM THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME IT WAS GOING TO BE ADDRESSED AND SEE WHAT THEY THOUGHT. I DID NOT LIE TO THEM, BUT THEY HEARD THE RATTLE. THEY SAID IT SEEMED TO BE A RECURRING PROBLEM WITH THIS HONDA MODEL AND THAT I COULD APPLY OIL TO HELP WITH THE RATTLE, OTHERWISE I WOULD JUST HAVE TO DEAL WITH IT FOR THE DURATION OF THE CAR. INCIDENT #2 1. ON JANUARY 7, 2005, ON US HWY. 441, I STOPPED THE CRV TO REFUEL, OPENED THE (REPLACEMENT) HOOD, ADDED OIL, CLOSED THE HOOD AND RESUMED MY TRIP. 2. WITHIN 2-3 MILES AT A SPEED OF 60 MPH, THE CAR HOOD SUDDENLY FLEW UP AND CRASHED INTO THE WINDSHIELD COMPLETELY OBSCURING MY VIEW. BECAUSE IT WAS DAYLIGHT AND TRAFFIC WAS LIGHT, I WAS ABLE TO MOVE THE CAR OFF THE HIGHWAY WITHOUT INCIDENT. A POLICE OFFICER STOPPED TO INQUIRE, BUT THERE WAS NO NEED TO FILE A REPORT. 3. UNDRIVABLE, THE CRV WAS TOWED TO A BODY SHOP, WHERE THEY DISCOVERED THAT THE HOOD PROP ROD WAS INSERTED INTO THE HOOD LATCH, PREVENTING THE HOOD FROM LATCHING, THUS CAUSING THE ACCIDENT. DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE INCLUDED THE HOOD, ROOF AND WINDSHIELD, ALL REPLACED BY THE BODY SHOP AT MY EXPENSE. HERE ARE THE ISSUES: A. THE DESIGN OF THE 2004 CRV HOOD PROP ROD IS DEFECTIVE. IT IS VERY EASY TO MISTAKENLY INSERT IT INTO THE HOOD LATCH, WHICH IS LOCATED LESS THAN AN INCH FROM THE ROD. I TRIED THE SAME MANEUVER ON OUR 2004 HONDA ACCORD, BUT THE PROP ROD IS LOCATED FAR ENOUGH AWAY FROM THE LATCH NOT TO TOUCH IT AT ALL. B. HONDA HAS MADE ITS REPUTATION AS A MANUFACTURER OF SAFE VEHICLES. THAT IS WHY I OWN TWO. HOWEVER, THE HONDA CRV DOES NOT HAVE A WARNING SYSTEM TO INDICATE IF THE HOOD IS UNLATCHED. IN THIS CASE, THOUGH BOTH THE HOOD LATCH AND SAFETY CATCH WERE UNLATCHED, I WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF IT AND WAS PLACED IN A SITUATION THAT JEOPARDIZED MY LIFE. THIS SITUATION COULD EASILY BE REMEDIED BY REDESIGNING THE ROD AND INSTALLING A WARNING LIGHT IN THE DASH SIMILAR TO THOSE INDICATING UNLATCHED TRUNKS AND DOORS. *JB
I AM REPORTING POOR GAS MILAGE DURING COLD MONTHS. I PURCHASED THIS CAR IN AUGUST 2004 AND WITH MY DRIVING FOUND THAT I GOT 25 MILES ON THE HIGHWAY AND 20 MILES PER GALLON WITH MIXED HIGHWAY AND LOCAL STREETS (50-50 MIX). WHEN COLD WEATHER ARRIVED WITH TEMPERATURES IN THE 30S AND 40S, I NOTICED THAT MY MILAGE WAS VERY POOR. THE HIGHWAY REMAINED THE SAME. THE MIXED DRIVING WAS BARELY 14 MILES PER GALLON. I TOOK THE CAR BACK TWICE TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT THERE IS NOTHING WRONG. AT THE SECOND VISIT I SPOKE WITH THE SERVICE MANAGER OF HONDA AND WAS TOLD MY DRIVING STYLE AND/OR USING THE HEATING HAD THIS EFFECT ON THE MILAGE. MY DRIVING STYLE IS NOT IN QUESTION - IT HAS NOT CHANGED. THAT LEAVES THE HEATER. I FIND THIS VERY HARD TO BELIEVE. I USE THE AC IN THE SUMMER AND MY MIXED DRIVING MILAGE WAS AT 20.

MY LEFT KNEE HIT THE DASH AND MY HANDS HIT THE WHEEL AND DASH--SUSTAINING SOME INJURY, AND MY RIGHT ARM WAS BURNED BY THE AIR BAG. MY VEHICLE WAS TOTALLED. SIGNIFICANT OIL LEAK AFTER FIRST (10,000 MILE) SERVICE AT DEALERSHIP. I WAS AWARE FROM MEDIA REPORTS OF THE DANGER OF ENGINE FIRE FOLLOWING FIRST OIL CHANGE. SO I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP THINKING THAT IF ANYONE COULD HANDLE THIS ISSUE SAFELY AND PROPERLY, THEY SHOULD. I SPECIFICALLY ASKED THE SERVICE MANAGER IF THEY WERE AWARE OF THE KNOWN SAFETY ISSUES RELATING TO THE 2004 HONDA CR-V. THEY SAID THEY AWARE. STILL, AFTER THE OIL CHANGE, I HAD A SIGNIFICANT OIL LEAK (ABOUT A QUART IN 24 HOURS AND 10 MILES OF DRIVING). *AK
