I HAVE EXPERIENCED MULTIPLE HEADLIGHT FAILURES OVER THE PAST 2 1/2 YEARS, ALMOST ALL ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE. I HAVE HAD IT TO THE DEALER MULTIPLE TIMES AND DESPITE THIS, THE HEADLIGHTS CONTINUES TO BURN OUT. LAST TIME IT WAS "FIXED" IT BURNED OUT THE NEXT DAY. LAST FALL, I HAD BOTH LIGHTS BURN OUT WHICH IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. AFTER AN ON-LINE SEARCH IT IS CLEAR THAT THIS IS A PERVASIVE PROBLEM WHICH HAS NOT BEEN ADEQUATELY ADDRESSED BY EITHER THE DEALER OR THE NTSB. *TR
THIS CRV RUMBLES ALL THE TIME WHEN TRAVELING AT SPEEDS OF 1500 RPM +/- . LETTING OFF THE GAS WILL STOP THE RUMBLE. DEALER COULD NOT HEAR IT. IT HAS BECOME MORE FREQUENT AND OF COURSE ANNOYING. I HAVE TRIED EVERYTHING FROM CHANGING DUAL PUMP FLUID TO TIRES. I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT IT IS BEARING ON THE TRANSMISSION OR THE SEAL ON THE DRIVE SHAFT. HAD ANY RECALLS FOR THIS PROBLEM? *TR
HONDA CRV 2006 AWD REAR DIFFERENTIAL NEEDS SERVICE EVERY 30,000 MINIMUM. THIS IS CONTRARY TO THE SPECIFICATIONS IN THE OWNERS MANUAL. *TR
AIR BAG LIGHT IS ON INDICATING THAT IT IS NOT WORKING. LOOKED UP MY YEAR AND MODEL AND FOUND A RECALL. TOOK IT TO DEALER. DEALER SAID YES RECALL FOR YOUR MODEL BUT NOT YOUR VIN. MY CAR IS WAS MANUFACTURED IN 2005 BUT SOLD TO ME AS A 2006. THIS IS POTENTIALLY LIFE THREATENING. *TR
REAR DIFFERENTIAL IN 2006 HONDA CRV MADE A GRINDING NOISE WHEN BACKING UP OR TURNING. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 HONDA CR-V. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ABS AND VSA LIGHTS ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL ILLUMINATED AND REMAINED ON. HE ALSO STATED THAT A TRIANGLE WITH AN EXCLAMATION POINT THAT HE WAS NOT FAMILIAR WITH LIT UP AS WELL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO STATED THAT THE ABS LIGHT CAUSED THE VSA AND OTHER LIGHTS TO ILLUMINATE. THE ABS MODULE ALSO NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT HE WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPAIR COSTS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED WHEN THE COMPLAINT WAS FILED. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER WHO STATED THAT THEY WOULD PAY HALF OF THE REPAIR COST. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 31,060. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 31,030.
OVER THE PAST YEAR, I HAVE REPLACED 4 HEAD LIGHT BULBS. EACH TIME MY MECHANIC HAS STATED THAT THE BULB WAS BLOWN AND THAT IT WAS NORMAL. IT CANNOT BE NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR TO HAVE TO REPLACE A HEADLIGHT BULB EVERY 3 OR 4 MONTHS. I HAVE FOUND OTHER COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS SAME PROBLEM BUT THERE HAS BEEN NO ACTION TAKEN BY THE MANUFACTURER. *TR
SUDDEN FAILURE (WARNING LIGHTS) OF ABS AND VSA SYSTEMS. NON RESETTABLE, THESE SYSTEMS ARE NON FUNCTIONAL. 2006 HONDA CRV LESS THAN A YEAR OUT OF WARRANTY AND ONLY 20088 MILES. HONDA DIAGNOSED AND DECLARED A NEW VSA CONTROL VALVE NEEDED. CODE 66-1. REPAIR ESTIMATE $2064. THERE ARE MANY MORE CASES EXACTLY THE SAME ON THE INTERNET. THIS IS A SAFETY PROBLEM AND SHOULD HAVE A RECALL IF FAILURE IS SO SOON IN THE CAR'S LIFE AND SO EXPENSIVE. *TR
ON WEDNESDAY JULY 21, 2010 AT APPROXIMATELY 1:00PM I LEFT TO PICK UP MY COUSINS FAMILY FROM PHOENIX SKY HARBOR INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT. DRIVING THERE THE AIR CONDITIONING ON MY 2006 HONDA CRV WAS BLOWING COLD AIR. UPON ARRIVING AT THE AIRPORT I HEADED TO THE CURBSIDE PICKUP TURNED OFF THE VEHICLE AND LOADED UP THE LUGGAGE. WHEN I TURNED ON THE IGNITION TO HEAD BACK HOME I NOTICED THE AIR CONDITIONER WAS NO LONGER RUNNING COLD, ONLY BLOWING HOT AIR. IN ARIZONA, THE SUMMER TIME IS EXTREMELY HOT. TODAY, JULY 27, 2010 I TOOK MY HONDA CRV TO FIRESTONE COMPLETE AUTO CARE TO HAVE AN A/C PERFORMANCE CHECK AND IT WAS DETERMINED ROAD DEBRIS (A ROCK) WENT THROUGH THE CONDENSER AND CREATED A HOLE. THE ASSOCIATE CONTACTED TOYOTA (PURCHASED IT CERTIFIED USED AND BOUGHT AN EXTENDED WARRANTY) WHO SAID IT WAS CONSIDERED ROAD DAMAGE AND THE REPAIR WOULD NOT BE COVERED. I HAVE HELD OFF ON THE REPAIR UNTIL I GATHER A FEW ESTIMATES AND CONTACT HONDA DIRECTLY. I HAVE RESEARCHED ONLINE AND THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM AMONG SOME OF THEIR VEHICLES. THERE IS A DESIGN FLAW WITH THE GRILL THAT ALLOWS LARGE DEBRIS TO ENTER AND CAUSE DAMAGE. *TR
2006 HONDA CR-V, VIN: [XXX]. COMPRESSOR FAILED AT 74K MILES. INTERIOR VENTS NOW BLOW ONLY HOT AIR AND THE DEFROSTER NO LONGER DEFOGS WINDSHIELD BECAUSE COMPRESSOR MUST WORK FOR DEFROSTER TO WORK PROPERLY. I CALLED AMERICAN HONDA ON 7/15/10. I WAS ASSIGNED A CASE #, AND CUSTOMER SERVICE ESCALATED THE ISSUE 3 TIMES. THEY REFUSED TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS COMPRESSOR FAILURE WHICH IS COMMON ON THOUSANDS OF HONDA CRV'S FROM 2002 THROUGH 2006 (PLEASE SEE THE FORUMS ON THIS ISSUE). IN SOME CASES, HONDA HAS PAID FOR THE REPAIR; IN OTHERS, THEY PAID FOR PART OF THE COST OF THE REPAIR; BUT IN MOST, LIKE FOR ME, THEY REFUSED TO OWN UP TO THIS COMMON DEFECT. I WROTE TO TETSUO IWAMURA, CEO AMERICAN HONDA, ON 7/20. MY LETTER WAS RETURNED TO CUSTOMER SERVICE WHO AGAIN TOLD ME HONDA WOULD DO NOTHING. I WROTE AGAIN TO THE CEO ON 7/27, BUT RECEIVED NO RESPONSE. I WROTE AGAIN ON 8/17 SENDING THE LETTER VIA CERTIFIED MAIL. THAT LETTER WAS RECEIVED 8/19, BUT TO DATE, THERE HAS BEEN NO RESPONSE. AGAIN, THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM ON HONDA CR-V'S. COMPRESSORS SHOULD NOT FAIL AT 74K MILES. I NEVER HAD THIS PROBLEM WITH ANY OTHER CAR I HAVE EVER OWNED. AND THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE THE COMPRESSOR TURNS ON WHEN THE DEFROSTER IS ON. WITHOUT A WORKING COMPRESSOR, THE DEFROSTER CAN NOT DEFOG THE WINDSHIELD, AND YOU CAN'T SEE WHERE YOU ARE GOING. WHILE DRIVING MY 2006 HONDA CR-V I NOTICED A VERY STRONG BURNING SMELL THAT SMELLED LIKE AN ELECTRICAL FIRE. IT WAS VERY STRONG AND I THOUGHT IT WAS COMING FROM THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME. I WAS AT AN OUTLET CENTER IN LK GEORGE , NY WITH 4 OTHERS IN MY CAR. WE ALL WERE OVERWHELMED ON HOW STRONG THE ODOR WAS. I PULLED OUT OF THE OUTLET DRIVEWAY TO GET INTO THE ROAD SO I COULD TURN INTO THE NEXT OUTLET ENTRANCE. AS I TURNED INTO THE NEXT OUTLET ENTRANCE , MY DRIVER'S SIDE WINDOW WENT DOWN ON ITS OWN A FEW SECONDS LATER I NOTICED SMOKE COMING FROM THE MASTER WINDOW CONTROL AND FROM MY SPEAKER PANEL BELOW IT. I STOPPED THE CAR AND HAD EVERYONE GET OUT. .911 WAS CALLED AND A FIRETRUCK CAME. THE FIREMEN TOOK THE INSIDE PANEL OF MY CAR DOOR OFF AND FOUND THERE WERE BURNED ELECTRICAL WIRES THAT HAD CAUSED MELTING WITHIN THE DOOR. THERE IS NO RECALL ON THIS MODEL HONDA. I LOOKED UP THIS PROBLEM ONLINE AND FOUND THAT THE HONDA FIT WAS RECALLED FOR THIS VERY PROBLEM IN JANUARY,2010. THE ENTIRE WINDOW MASTER SWITCH AND IT'S CORRESPONDING WIRES HAD TO BE REPLACED AS WELL AS THE INSIDE DOOR PANEL. *TR
2006 HONDA, CR-V. REAR DIFFERENTIAL MAKING NOISE, AT SLOWED SPEEDS WHILE TURNING. CHECKED OWNERS MANUAL, IT STATES TO CHANGE AT 90,000 MILES. CHECKED ON-LINE TO SEE IF THIS WAS A COMMON COMPLAINT. COULDN'T BELIEVE THERE IS AN ACTUAL SERVICE BULLETIN OUT FOR THIS AND NO NOTIFICATION FROM THE DEALERSHIP I BOUGHT IT FROM OR THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I'VE HAD MY OIL CHANGES DONE AT. REALLY DISAPPOINTED THAT I HAVE TO PAY TO REPLACE THE FLUIDS SO I DON'T HAVE DAMAGE DONE TO MY CAR. WHY IS HONDA NOT NOTIFYING THERE LOYAL CUSTOMERS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM, MAYBE COVERING THE COST TO REPLACE THE FLUIDS THAT ARE "JUST BREAKING DOWN PREMATURELY" I BOUGHT MY HONDA BECAUSE OF THE REPUTATION. *TR
MY REAR GATE WAS EXTREMELY HARD TO OPEN & CLOSE. BROUGHT TO DEALERSHIP & THEY ADVISED THAT THE HINGES NEEDED LUBRICATING. THE SPRAYED A YELLOW FOAM ON THE HINGES. IN THE WEEK THAT FOLLOWED, I NOTICED THAT OPENING THAT REAR GATE BECAME VERY EASY, SO MUCH SO THAT THE REAR GATE "FALLS" OUT OF PLACE. IN ORDER TO CLOSE THE GATE I NEED TO LIFT UP WITH ALL OF MY MIGHT & SHOVE IT CLOSED. LOOKING CLOSER AT THE HINGES, THEY APPEAR TO BE SNAPPED. I BROUGHT IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP TODAY (5/24/10) AND THEY ADVISED THAT THE HINGE WAS SNAPPED FROM DISINTEGRATING, AND THAT THEY HAD NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE THIS. THEY SENT ME TO THE BODY SHOP THEY USE AND THE MAN THERE ALSO TOLD ME THE SAME THING, THE HINGE HAS DISINTEGRATED. I NOW NEED TO REPLACE THE HINGES BECAUSE THE BODY SHOP TOLD ME THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS, THE REAR DOOR COULD FALL OFF WHILE DRIVING AS THE ONLY THING HOLDING THIS ON IS THE REAR GATE HANDLE LOCK AND IF THE DOOR FELL OFF WHILE DRIVING IT COULD NOT ONLY KILL SOMEONE DRIVING BEHIND ME, BUT THAT IT WOULD BE THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS TO REPLACE THE WHOLE REAR DOOR/GATE. THIS IS A 2006 HONDA CR-V, HOW CAN HINGES DISINTEGRATE IN 4 YEARS?! *TR
I OWN A 2006 HONDA CR-V AND THE DRIVERSIDE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHT BULB KEEPS BURNING OUT. I DIDN'T DO THE WORK MYSELF I HAD A MECHANIC DO IT AND HE DOESN'T KNOW WHAT'S UP. *TR
ON MAY 8TH, I DROVE MY 2006 HONDA CR-V HOME FROM A RESTAURANT. I TRAVELED ABOUT 25 MILES PER HOUR IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD. MY HONDA CR-V SUDDENLY SHUT OFF ENGINE AND RESTARTED ITSELF. THE VSA LIGHT, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND ONE MORE LIGHT CAME ON. I WAS SO SCARED. ON MAY 10TH, I TOOK MY CAR TO HONDA DEALER TO BE CHECKED OUT. THEY TOLD ME THAT THE VEHICLE STABILITY ASSISTANCE (VSA) SYSTEM FAILED AFTER I OWNED THE CAR FOR FOUR YEARS AND AT 45000+ MILES. DEALER TOLD ME IT COST $2300 DOLLARS TO REPLACE THE SYSTEM. I DID NOT ACCEPT IT. I ASKED DEALER AND AMERICA HONDA CORP. TO HELP. FINALLY THEY AGREED I PAID $725 DOLLARS FOR THE ENTIRE REPAIR. *TR
2006 HONDA CRV, NOISE IN THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL. STARTS MAKING GRINDING NOISE WHEN TURNING SHARPLY AT LOW SPEED. PASTED 36 MONTH WARRANTY PERIOD. HONDA PUT OUT A SERVICE BULLETIN #07-024 WITH INSTRUCTIONS TO REPLACE THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL FLUID AND BURNISH THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL CLUTCHES. THE OWNER'S MANUAL SAYS TO CHANGE DIFFERENTIAL FLUID AT 60K MILES OR 4 YRS. THE ORIGINAL FLUID IS DEFECTIVE. *TR
SOMEONE HIT ME FROM BACK ON A FREEWAY WHILE I WAS AT STOPPED POSITION DUE TO TRAFFIC JAMS. I WAS INJURED BY STEERING WHEEL BUT NO AIR BAG DEPLOYED. DOC TOLD ME I HAVE TO SUFFER FEW YEARS OR LONGER OR WHOLE LIFE. IF AIR BAG DEPLOYED. I COULD HAVE BEEN SAVED. *TR
1) APRIL 5, 2010: FORTY-FIVE MINUTES INTO THE DRIVE, MY GAS TANK (WHICH WAS HALF FULL) DROPPED BELOW EMPTY IN JUST ONE SECOND. I COULD FEEL THE ENGINE SHUTTING DOWN ON THE HIGHWAY. I WAS IN THE LEFT HAND LANE DRIVING IN HEAVY TRAFFIC. AT THIS POINT, I KNEW THAT I NEEDED TO PULL OVER AND GET HELP. UNFORTUNATELY, THE CARS BEHIND ME WERE PASSING ME ON THE RIGHT HAND SIDE NOT ALLOWING ME TO GET OVER. I KNEW THAT IF SOMEONE WOULD NOT LET ME OVER INTO THE RIGHT HAND LANE, I WAS GOING TO DIE ALONG WITH OTHERS THAT WOULD CRASH INTO ME. FORTUNATELY, GOD CREATED AN OPENING. AT THIS OPENING, I MERGED ONTO AN EXIT RAMP FOR ME TO REALIZE I DON'T HAVE ANY BRAKES AT ALL. I WENT INTO PANIC AND FIGHT MODE. I WAS AN INCH AWAY FROM SLAMMING INTO A POLE AND TIPPING OVER A LITTLE CLIFF WHEN I SLAMMED THE CAR INTO PARK POSITION IN ORDER TO STOP MY CAR. 2) FAILURE: LOSS OF CONTROL, ENGINE SHUTTING DOWN, LOSS OF BRAKES ON THE HIGHWAY CONSEQUENCES: ALMOST LOST MY LIFE AND COULD'VE EASILY KILLED OTHERS ON THE HIGHWAY THIS IS THE FIRST TIME THIS PARTICULAR ENGINE PROBLEM OCCURRED, BUT THIS IS NOT THE FIRST ENGINE PROBLEM. 3) CAR WAS BROUGHT TO THE CLOSEST HONDA DEALERSHIP. SEVERAL SCANS DONE. THEY COULDN'T FIGURE OUT THE PROBLEM. 4) TOWED CAR FROM THAT DEALERSHIP TO MY ORIGINAL DEALER. THIS HONDA CR-V BOUGHT BRAND NEW IS CURRENTLY WITH MY ORIGINAL DEALER. THEY ARE TRYING TO FIGURE OUT THE DEFECT. *TR
ON MARCH 16, 2010, THE MAIN POWER WINDOW CONTROLS (LOCATED ON DRIVERS DOOR), BEGAN HAVING PROBLEMS. I COULD NO LONGER CLOSE THE FRONT RIGHT WINDOW FROM THIS CONTROL. I WAS ABLE TO OPEN THE FRONT RIGHT WINDOW AND WAS ABLE TO OPEN AND CLOSE THE THREE REMAINING POWER WINDOWS. THE POWER WINDOW SWITCH ON THE FRONT PASSENGER DOOR DID WORK (TO OPEN AND CLOSE THAT WINDOW). ON MARCH 23, 2010, I TURNED ON THE IGNITION FOR MY CRV AS I GOT READY TO GO TO WORK. I NOTICED AN INTENSE BURNING SMELL (OF PLASTIC) AND WAS ABLE TO TRACE IT TO THE DRIVER'S DOOR WITHIN SEVERAL MINUTES. I TURNED OFF MY VEHICLE AND TRIED TO EXAMINE THE DOOR FURTHER. SMOKE CAME OUT OF THE OPENINGS (LIKE THE SPEAKER COVER) OF THE DOOR PANEL. I NOTICED THAT THE CONTROL SWITCH FOR THE FRONT RIGHT WINDOW WAS NOW STICKING. I PULLED OUT THE POWER WINDOW FUSE FROM THE ENGINE FUSE BOX AND TOOK MY VEHICLE TO MY MECHANIC. UPON DISASSEMBLING THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE DOOR, THE MECHANIC WAS ABLE TO EXAMINE THE WIRING INSIDE THE DOOR AND ALL LOOKED NORMAL (NO SIGN OF BURNS). THEY TOOK OUT THE MAIN POWER WINDOW CONTROL SWITCH AND DISASSEMBLED THAT AND FOUND CLEAR BURN MARKS UNDERNEATH ONE SWITCH AND ON THE MOTHERBOARD ATTACHED TO IT. THEY WILL BE INSTALLING A BRAND NEW SWITCH TOMORROW THAT WAS ORDERED FROM HONDA. UNTIL THE SWITCH IS REPLACED, I DO NOT HAVE CONTROL OF THE POWER LOCKS FROM THE INSIDE, OPENING OR CLOSING THE WINDOWS, OR ADJUSTING THE REAR VIEW MIRRORS. I DO HAVE THE ORIGINAL SWITCH AVAILABLE FOR REVIEW OF THE DAMAGE. WHILE I DID NOT SEE FLAMES, I DO BELIEVE THAT THERE WAS A SMALL FIRE INSIDE THE POWER WINDOW SWITCH AND HAD THE CAR RUN ANY LONGER, THE SMOKE AND FIRE WOULD HAVE SPREAD AND COULD HAVE LED TO MORE SERIOUS CONSEQUENCES IF I HAD BEEN DRIVING (AND NOT PARKED) WHEN THIS OCCURRED.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 HONDA CR-V. THE CONTACT STATED THE HEADLIGHT BULBS WERE CONTINUOUSLY BURNING OUT AND WOULD NOT LAST MORE THAN TWO MONTHS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO WAS NOT ABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE AND STATED TO CONTINUE TO REPLACE THE BULBS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 56,000.
2/28/10 DRIVER'S SIDE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHT FAILED. BULB REPLACED. A FEW HOURS LATER (FORTUNATELY NOT AT THE SAME TIME) PASSENGER SIDE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHT FAILED. BULB REPLACED. (HIGH BEAMS O.K.) 12/2011 RECEIVED POLICE WARNING WHEN PASSENGER'S SIDE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHT FAILED WHILE DRIVING (HIGH BEAMS OKAY). BOTH BULBS REPLACED. 6/2/12 DRIVER'S SIDE LOW BEAM FAILURE. AGAIN, BOTH BULBS REPLACED. 7/18/12 PASSENGER'S SIDE LOW BEAM FAILED. I ATTEMPTED TO HAVE BOTH BULBS REPLACED. PASSENGER'S SIDE LOW BEAM WAS INOPERATIVE EVEN WITH THE NEW BULB. TECHNICIAN CHECKED THE POWER SUPPLY WITH A VOLT METER. THERE WAS NO GROUND ON THE PASSENGER'S SIDE LOW BEAM. DRIVER'S SIDE LOW BEAM WORKS (FOR NOW), AND BOTH HIGH BEAMS. MY CR-V WAS MANUFACTURED IN 2005. PERHAPS IT HAS THE SAME DEFECTIVE TERMINALS, LIGHTING SWITCHES AND HARNESSES AS THOSE USED IN THE 2002-04 CR-V'S RECALLED BY HONDA MARCH 22, 2012? THIS MAKES NIGHT DRIVING DANGEROUS. *TR
WE EXPERIENCE SUDDEN ACCELERATION WITH OUR HONDA CRV 2006. IT IS AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM AND CAN HAPPEN AT VARYING SPEEDS ON HIGHWAY OR STREETS. WE HAVE NO FLOOR MATS BY THE WAY. WHEN WE DRIVE TO THE DEALERSHIP THEY KEEP TELLING US THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO TO HELP US. "SINCE EVERYTHING IS COMPUTERIZED THE CAR MUST BE DOING THE ACTUAL SUDDEN ACCELERATION WHEN YOU BRING IT IN," WE WERE TOLD. WE FIND THIS UNACCEPTABLE AND FELT IT WISE TO REPORT TO YOU. ON MONDAY, JANUARY 25, 2010, MY 2006 HONDA CRV WAS PARKED IN A LOT, TURNED OFF, FOR AT LEAST 10 MIN. WHILE I SAT IN THE DRIVER'S SEAT MAKING FOLLOW-UP SALES CALLS. A WHITE CLOUD OF SMOKE BEGAN TO RISE FROM THE MAIN POWER WINDOW CONTROL SWITCH SPECIFICALLY COMING FROM THE REAR LEFT BUTTON. IT SMELLED LIKE AN ELECTRICAL FIRE. WITHIN 5 SECONDS, FLAMES STARTED COMING OUT OF THE BUTTON. AFRAID, I GRABBED MY BOTTLE OF WATER, POURING HALF OF IT ON THE FLAMES. THE FLAMES ACTUALLY STOPPED, THE SMOKE CONTINUED. I POURED THE REST OF THE BOTTLE ON IT AND FINALLY THE SMOKE SUBSIDED. IT WAS VERY FRIGHTENING AND LATE. I WENT HOME AND TOLD MY HUSBAND WHAT HAD HAPPENED. HE SUGGESTED I STOP AT OUR NEARBY SERVICE STATION AND ASK WHAT THEY THOUGHT. THE NEXT DAY I DID JUST THAT. TUESDAY, JANUARY 26 I PULLED INTO THAT SAME STATION, WHERE I HAVE MOST OF MY VEHICLE SERVICE WORK DONE. THEY REMOVED THE WHOLE CONTROL PANEL TO FIND IT HAD ACTUALLY MELTED AND BURN MARKS REMAINED ON THE FABRIC COVERING THE DOOR. I THEN HEADED FOR THE HONDA DEALERSHIP WHERE I HAD PURCHASED THE CAR. WITH THE CONTROL PANEL IN HAND, I SHOWED AND EXPLAINED TO THEM THE OBVIOUS PROBLEM. I WAS THEN TOLD THEY HAD NEVER HEARD OF ANYTHING LIKE THIS AND IT WOULD ONLY TAKE A DAY OR TWO FOR THEM TO REPLACE THE SWITCH, WHICH COST ME $187.00. THEY GAVE ME A FREE LOANER CAR AND SENT ME ON MY WAY. THURSDAY JANUARY 28, I PICKED UP MY CAR, PAID THE BILL AND LEFT. AS I WAS DRIVING ON FRIDAY, JANUARY 29, LISTENING TO 1210 RADIO, WHERE THEY SPOKE OF THE HONDA RECALL OF THE FIT FOR THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM! I HAD ALREADY CALLED THE HONDA NATIONAL NUMBER, SPOKE WITH A CUSTOMER SERVICE REP. AND THEN HAD A CLAIM AGENT RETURN MY CALL. THESE CALLS OCCURRED ON TUESDAY, PRIOR TO MY ARRIVING AT THE HONDA DEALERSHIP. HIS RESPONSE WAS THE SAME AS THE HONDA DEALER ONLY MORE RUDE AND DEFENSIVE. SOMEONE HAD THE FIRST FIT WHICH HAD A WINDOW SWITCH FIRE! PERHAPS I HAD THE FIRST HONDA C-RV WHICH HAD A WINDOW SWITCH FIRE! *TW

I PARKED IN MY OFFICE PARKING GARAGE SPOT JUST AS I NORMALLY DO. I PULLED IN THE SPOT GOING VERY SLOWLY, AND EVEN THOUGH I AM COMPLETELY CONVINCED THAT MY FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE AS I TURNED INTO THE PARKING SPOT, ONCE THE CAR WAS IN THE SPOT, THE CAR SUDDENLY WITHOUT ANY WARNING OR REASON SURGED FORWARD AND CRASHED INTO A CONCRETE BEAM THAT WAS RIGHT IN FRONT OF MY PARKING SPOT. THE CAR DID NOT SKID FORWARD, BECAUSE THERE WAS NO ICE, AND I HAD A VERY DISTINCT SENSATION OF THE CAR ENGINE REVVING UP ON ITS OWN WHEN IT ACCELERATED. I WAS BRUISED WHERE THE SEAT BELT WAS POSITIONED ACROSS MY CHEST, BUT OTHERWISE I WAS OKAY. THE CAR SUSTAINED APPROXIMATELY $8,000 IN DAMAGES. *TR
I HAVE REPLACED NUMEROUS LOW BEAM BULBS ON OUR 2006 HONDA CR-V. I REPLACED THE LEFT ONE THIS PAST WEEK END. THE BULB I REMOVED TESTED FINE, BUT I PUT A NEW BULB IN ANYWAY BUT STILL HAD NO LOW BEAM! I DECIDED TO DO SOME RESEARCH AND DISCOVERED I AM NOT THE ONLY HONDA CR-V OWNER WITH HEADLIGHT LOW BEAM PROBLEMS. I READ WHERE A RECALL IS COMING FOR MODEL YEARS 2002-2004. I AM ONE OF MANY HONDA CR-V OWNERS WHO BELIEVE THE RECALL SHOULD EXTEND THROUGH THE 2006 MODEL YEAR. I BOUGHT AN HONDA 2006 CR-V NEW IN 2006. IN OCT. 2009 I STARTED EXPERIENCING MULTIPLE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHT BULB FAILURES. THIS STARTED AFTER THE EXPIRATION OF THE WARRANTY. SINCE THAT TIME I HAVE REPLACED THE LEFT AND RIGHT BULBS 7 TIMES. THIS BULB FAILURE IS SPONTANEOUS AND WHEN IT HAPPENS AT NIGHT WHILE DRIVING, IT PRESENTS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. THERE HAVE BEEN A NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS INVOLVING HONDA CR-V LOW BEAM LIGHT BULB FAILURES IN THE NHTSA DATA BASE. THIS SITUATION IS NOT UNIQUE TO MY VEHICLE. HONDA HAS REFUSED TO RECOGNIZE THIS PROBLEM AND DID NOT SUPPLY A SOLUTION. I FEEL A RECALL WOULD BE VALID IN THIS SITUATION SINCE DRIVING WITH ONE OR NO HEADLIGHTS PRESENTS A SAFETY ISSUE. 2006 HONDA CR-V EXTERIOR SPARE TIRE CARRIER SAFETY PROBLEM. MY VEHICLE RECENTLY REQUIRED THE SPARE TIRE BE REMOVED FROM THE VEHICLE TO REPLACE A ROAD HAZARD DAMAGED TIRE. ON REMOVING THE SPARE TIRE COVER, IT WAS NOTICED THAT ONLY TWO OF THE THREE TIRE LUGS THAT SUPPORT THE TIRE WERE IN PLACE. THE VEHICLE CAME WITH THREE TIRE LUGS FOR THE SPARE, AS THIS WAS NOTICED WHEN A DIFFERENT SPARE TIRE COVER WAS INSTALLED WITHIN THE FIRST MONTH OF VEHICLE OWNERSHIP. THE DAMAGED TIRE WAS REPLACED WITH A NEW TIRE AND THE SERVICEMAN WENT TO PLACE THIS NEW TIRE ON THE EXTERIOR SPARE TIRE CARRIER. HE SHEARED OFF ONE MORE OF THE LUGS AND STATED THAT HE HAD NOT APPLIED EXCESSIVE FORCE TO HAVE THIS HAPPEN. HE ALSO MENTIONED THAT THIS WAS THE SECOND LUG NOW MISSING AND THAT THE SPARE TIRE SHOULD NOT BE PLACED ON THE EXTERIOR SPARE TIRE CARRIER WITH ONLY A SINGLE LUG TO CARRY THE WEIGHT OF THE SPARE TIRE. THE SPARE TIRE WAS PLACED IN THE INTERIOR REAR STORAGE AREA. I WAS GIVEN THE SHEARED OFF LUG, WHICH I STILL HAVE IN MY POSSESSION, SHOULD IT BE REQUIRED TO DETERMINE IF STRUCTURAL FAILURE WAS THE RESULT BY EXAMINATION OF A METALLURGIST. CONTACTING THE DEALER WHERE THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED (HONDA OF BOWIE, MD), THE DEALERSHIP WOULD NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM, AT NO COST TO ME, AS A LATENT DEFECT, AS THEY STATED IT WAS BEYOND THE NORMAL WARRANTY PERIOD. THEY QUESTIONED WHETHER THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN SERVICED ACCORDING TO THE SERVICE MANUAL. I RESPONDED THAT THE SPARE TIRE CARRIER LUGS ARE NOT A SERVICEABLE ITEM (EXCEPT TO TIGHTEN THE LUGS TO RETAIN THE TIRE) AND THAT THE LUGS SHOULD LAST THE LIFE OF THE VEHICLE. I WAS REFERRED TO THE NEXT HONDA LEVEL OF APPEAL, WHERE I AM STILL AWAITING A RESOLUTION. I FEEL THIS IS A SAFETY PROBLEM IN THAT THE SPARE TIRE CAN POSSIBLY FALL OFF THE VEHICLE IF THE SPARE TIRE LUGS FAIL, AND WOULD LIKE TO HAVE THIS DOCUMENTED FOR OTHER CR-V OWNERS TO HELP WITH SIMILAR PROBLEMS. *TR

I DECIDED TO WRITE THIS AFTER SEARCHING THE WEB FOR IDEAS ON WHAT'S GOING ON WITH MY CRV, THIS SEEMS TO BE A VERY COMMON PROBLEM. THE HEADLIGHTS KEEP BURNING OUT - IT'S GETTING ANNOYING TO ALWAYS BE REPLACING THEM. THE DEALER QUOTED $3000 FOR PARTS AND LABOR BECAUSE THE FAILURE OF THE COMPRESSOR CREATED OTHER PROBLEMS AND ALL THE LINES HAVE TO BE REPLACED. FORTUNATELY, I HAVE AN EXTENDED 72 MONTH/72K MILE WARRANTY WHICH SHOULD COVER ALL BUT $100 DEDUCTIBLE. AN ADJUSTOR MUST FIRST APPROVE THE REPAIRS, SO IT WILL BE SEVERAL DAYS BECAUSE THIS HAPPENED ON A SATURDAY. *TR

SINCE SHORTLY AFTER PURCHASING MY CAR, I HAVE HAD A RECURRING PROBLEM WITH THE HEADLIGHTS BLOWING OUT, AND SOMETIMES THE DOME LIGHT INSIDE THE PASSENGER AREA OF THE CAR. THE HEADLIGHTS ARE BLOWING OUT ON AVERAGE, EVERY TWO MONTHS. DURING THE LAST YEAR OR 2 BEFORE TRADING THE 1997 CR-V, I HAD SIMILAR PROBLEMS WITH THE HEADLIGHTS BLOWING ON THAT VEHICLE ALSO. I PURCHASED MY CAR FROM HENDRICKS HONDA IN CHARLESTON, SC. I HAVE MOST OF MY SERVICE, INCLUDING OIL CHANGES, DONE AT THAT DEALERS SERVICE DEPARTMENT. I HAVE REPEATEDLY ASKED THAT THEY INVESTIGATE THE PROBLEM, AND HAVE BEEN TOLD REPEATEDLY THAT THERE IS NO ELECTRICAL PROBLEM WITH THE CAR. I VISITED SUPERIOR HONDA RECENTLY IN ORANGEBURG SOUTH CAROLINA. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT MANAGER THERE TOLD ME THAT IN RECENT MONTHS, HE WAS AWARE OF AT LEAST ONE CR-V OWNER AND SEVERAL OWNERS OF CIVICS WHO HAVE COME BACK AND FORTH TO THEIR DEALERSHIP BECAUSE OF SIMILAR PROBLEMS WITH HEADLIGHTS BLOWING OUT. HENDRICKS HONDA ADVISED AGAINST CONTACTING THE CORPORATION AND SAID IT WOULD LIKELY REFER THE MATTER BACK TO THEM. I COMMUTE TO WORK 120 MILES ROUND TRIP DAILY. I HAVE BEEN STOPPED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS BY POLICE OFFICERS AND HIGHWAY PATROLMEN REGARDING ONE OF MY HEADLIGHTS BEING OUT. I NOW CARRY COPIES OF THE SERVICE REQUESTS SHOWING THAT I REPORTED THE PROBLEM WITH THE HEADLIGHTS DURING MY VISITS TO THE DEALERSHIP. I SHOW THESE TO THE OFFICE AS PROOF THAT THE PROBLEM IS RECURRING AND I HAVE BEEN ATTEMPTING TO RESOLVE IT. I HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO GET THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AT THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED THE CAR TO TAKE THE ISSUE SERIOUSLY AND/OR TO TRY TO DETERMINE THE SOURCE OF THE PROBLEM. I HAVE CHECK TO SEE IF THERE ARE ANY RECALLS RELATED TO THIS PROBLEM, OR ANY SERVICE BULLETINS, AND HAVE FOUND NONE. POST SCRIPT: THERE ARE NUMEROUS "INCIDENT DATES".
